This study aimed to compare the shear bond strength (SBS) related to surface treatment methods of debonded brackets before indirect rebonding and to evaluate changes in SBS related to sandblasting time.

Dicalcium phosphate anhydrous (DCPA, CaHPO4) is regarded as an orthopedic material due to its ability to match the generation of new bone to the rate of implant resorption without considering the material's mechanical stability. Additionally, magnesium (Mg) is widely recognized for its essential function in bone metabolism, especially during the initial phases of osteogenesis. Therefore, we explored the influences of Mg ions on DCPA powder, in biological responses, and on the enhancement of osteogenic properties. Mg-DCPA powders with varying substitution levels (0, 3, 5, and 7 mol%) were produced using the co-precipitation method. In the in vitro test, precipitates began to develop on the surface of the Mg-DCPA powders after 7 days. These results indicate that Mg ions in the DCPA powder could enhance the generation of a new apatite phase when subjected to physiological fluids on the surface of the powder. In addition, the osteogenic performance of the DCPA powder was improved by adding Mg ions. The most effective magnesium substitution content in the DCPA powder in order to improve its osteogenic potential was approximately 3 mol%. The role of torso computed tomography (CT) in evaluating body composition has been unexplored. This study assessed the potential of low-dose torso CT from positron emission tomography (PET)/CT for analyzing body composition and its relation to muscle strength. We retrospectively recruited 384 healthy Korean adults (231 men, 153 women) who underwent torso 18F-FDG PET/CT, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), and muscle strength tests (handgrip strength [HGS] and knee extension strength [KES]). CT images were segmented into three compartments: torso volumetric, abdominal volumetric, and abdominal areal. Muscle amounts from each compartment were indexed to height (m2). BIA and HGS served as reference standards, with correlation coefficients (r) calculated. Torso muscle volumetric index (TorsoMVI) had the strongest correlations with BIA-derived values (r = 0.80 for men; r = 0.73 for women), surpassing those from the abdominal compartments. TorsoMVI was also correlated significantly with HGS (r = 0.39, p < 0.01) and differentiated between normal and possible sarcopenia in men (n = 225, 5960 ± 785 cm3/m2 vs. n = 6, 5210 ± 487 cm3/m2, p = 0.02). In women, KES correlated more strongly with muscle parameters than HGS. Despite gender-specific variations, torso CT-derived parameters show promise for evaluating body composition and sarcopenia. Fucosterols have been widely studied for their antioxidant, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory properties. However, they have not yet been studied in the field of dentistry. This study aimed to determine whether pretreatment of dentin with fucosterol before resin restoration enhances bond stability in resin-dentin hybrid layers. After applying 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 wt% fucosterol to demineralized dentin, microtensile bond strength (MTBS) and nanoleakage tests were performed before and after collagenase aging, and the surface was observed using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The fucosterol-treated group showed better bond strength and less nanoleakage both before and after collagenase aging, and the corresponding structures were confirmed using SEM. MMP zymography confirmed that the activity of MMPs was relatively low along the concentration gradient of fucosterol, and the FTIR analysis confirmed the production of collagen crosslinks. In addition, fucosterol exhibits cytotoxicity against Streptococcus mutans, the main cause of dental decay. The results of this study suggest that fucosterol pretreatment improves bond strength and reduces nanoleakage at the resin-dentin interface, possibly through a mechanism involving collagen cross-link formation via the inhibition of endogenous and exogenous MMP activity. This study demonstrates the potential of fucosterol as an MMP inhibitor in dentin, which contributes to long-term resin-dentin bond stability and can be used as a restorative material. Piezoelectric fiber yarns produced by electrospinning offer a versatile platform for intelligent devices, demonstrating mechanical durability and the ability to convert mechanical strain into electric signals. While conventional methods involve twisting a single poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐trifluoroethylene)(P(VDF‐TrFE)) fiber mat to create yarns, by limiting control over the mechanical properties, an approach inspired by composite laminate design principles is proposed for strengthening. By stacking multiple electrospun mats in various sequences and twisting them into yarns, the mechanical properties of P(VDF‐TrFE) yarn structures are efficiently optimized. By leveraging a multi‐objective Bayesian optimization‐based machine learning algorithm without imposing specific stacking restrictions, an optimal stacking sequence is determined that simultaneously enhances the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and failure strain by considering the orientation angles of each aligned fiber mat as discrete design variables. The conditions on the Pareto front that achieve a balanced improvement in both the UTS and failure strain are identified. Additionally, applying corona poling induces extra dipole polarization in the yarn state, successfully fabricating mechanically robust and high‐performance piezoelectric P(VDF‐TrFE) yarns. Ultimately, the mechanically strengthened piezoelectric yarns demonstrate superior capabilities in self‐powered sensing applications, particularly in challenging environments and sports scenarios, substantiating their potential for real‐time signal detection. This study aimed to optimize space closure efficiency by comparing the forces and moments exerted by different designs of clear aligners (CAs) during the movement of maxillary canines into the premolar extraction space. The forces and moments were measured using a multi-axis force/moment transducer on the maxillary right canine. The CAs were fabricated from thermoformed polyethylene terephthalate glycol. The following four edentulous space designs were tested: the edentulous space was left intact (Group 1); the edentulous space was replaced with a premolar pontic (Group 2); the edentulous space was replaced with a half-sized premolar pontic (Group 3); and the edentulous space was replaced with a rectangular column beam (Group 4). The maxillary right canine was moved 0.25 mm distally. All groups experienced buccodistal and intrusive forces; compared with the other groups, Group 1 showed significantly greater intrusive and smaller distal forces, and Group 4 showed significantly greater distal forces. All groups experienced distal tilting, lingual inclination, and mesial rotational moments. These findings suggest that modifying the thickness and extent of the adjacent teeth in the edentulous area of the CA can improve local stiffness, thereby reducing the tipping of the teeth into the edentulous space.
