To be used in semi-structural applications, the components of sustainable composites must have good mechanical properties and excellent dimensional/geometrical integrity, both of which are influenced by secondary processing techniques. Less emphasis has been placed on the development, mechanical/microstructural characterization, and secondary processing of sustainable basalt fiber/poly(lactic acid) composites (BFPLA), which can be an excellent choice for semi-structural applications. The present investigation aims to determine the best cutting process to create samples from BFPLA, as well as to experimentally evaluate the effect of different cutting processes (scroll sawing, computer numerical control (CNC) milling, water jet cutting, and abrasive water jet cutting (AWJ)) on the tensile and flexural properties of samples. Stereomicroscopy and field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) are used to assess and correlate the influence of surface defects caused by cutting methods with mechanical behavior. AWJ machining consistently generated uniform surface profiles across all specimens, with minimum thermal degradation and fiber roll-out. Compared to the tensile strength values of unidirectional longitudinal, transversal, and bidirectional samples cut using milling, AWJ specimens exhibited a percentage increase of 27.9, 70.2, and 54.4%, respectively. It has been concluded that the choice of cutting technique has a significant impact on the strength of cut samples.

The migration of leukocytes into the CNS drives the neuropathology of multiple sclerosis (MS). This penetration likely utilizes energy resources that remain to be defined. Using the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) model of MS, we determined that macrophages within the perivascular cuff of post-capillary venules are highly glycolytic as manifested by strong expression of lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA) that converts pyruvate to lactate. These macrophages expressed prominent levels of monocarboxylate transporter-4 (MCT-4) specialized in secreting lactate from glycolytic cells. The functional relevance of glycolysis was confirmed by siRNA-mediated knockdown of LDHA and MCT-4, which decreased lactate secretion and macrophage transmigration. MCT-4 was in turn regulated by EMMPRIN (CD147) as determined through co-expression/co-immunoprecipitation studies, and siRNA-mediated EMMPRIN silencing. The functional relevance of MCT-4/EMMPRIN interaction was affirmed by lower macrophage transmigration in culture using the MCT-4 inhibitor, α-cyano-4-hydroxy-cinnamic acid (CHCA), a cinnamon derivative. CHCA also reduced leukocyte infiltration and the clinical severity of EAE. Relevance to MS was corroborated by the strong expression of MCT-4, EMMPRIN and LDHA in perivascular macrophages in MS brains. These results detail the metabolism of macrophages for transmigration from perivascular cuffs into the CNS parenchyma and identifies CHCA and diet as potential modulators of neuro-inflammation in MS.

Basalt fiber reinforced polybutylene succinate (BFPBS) composite offer competitive solutions for medium load applications but face significant drilling challenges. Present study seeks to perform an exhaustive machinability analysis and optimize pivotal drilling variables, to mitigate delamination and enhance machining efficacy in BFPBS laminates. Experimental exploration involved three distinct drill geometries: an 8 mm twist drill and two modified step drills, facilitating scrutiny of pilot diameter's impact on drilling behavior. Mapping force signals, morphological analysis, chip formation investigation, and specific cutting energy calculation were conducted to deepen comprehension of BFPBS machinability. Modified step drill showed superior performance with lower thrust force and torque. Feed rate primarily affected thrust force, whereas tool geometry notably influenced exit delamination. Multiple linear regression models enabled Genetic Algorithm optimization, revealing Pareto optimal sets balancing thrust, torque, and delamination. Step drills show potential for reduced energy use and improved efficiency in BFPBS composite machining, benefiting various industries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Chickpea being a winter season crop, often experiences high temperature during its reproductive phase resulting in yield losses due to the direct effect of it, on different physiological processes. Therefore, identification and development of heat stress tolerant genotypes is an important aspect in chickpea breeding especially in view of the changing climate scenario. Methods: An experiment was conducted during Rabi season 2017-18 at pulses research field, CCS HAU, Hisar, Haryana comprising 60 genotypes in randomized block design with three replications under two environmental conditions namely, normal and late sown to find out heat stress tolerant genotypes. A total of eleven morpho-physiological yield attributes noted down under both normal and late sown conditions and various multivariate statistical methods were used to find out tolerant chickpea genotypes. Result: The present study has led the understanding of many inter-related traits involved in the genetic variation of chickpea seed yield under normal as well as late sown conditions. This would certainly provide guidelines for selection of parents as well as effective selection of promising chickpea genotypes and also have paramount importance in formulating plant model for selection of segregating generations in chickpea breeding programmes for development of high yielding varieties. Background: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is recognized as the most lethal and most highly invasive tumor. The high likelihood of treatment failure arises fromthe presence of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and stemcells around GBM, which avert the entry of chemotherapeutic drugs into the tumormass. Objective: Recently, several researchers have designed novel nanocarrier systems like liposomes, dendrimers, metallic nanoparticles, nanodiamonds, and nanorobot approaches, allowing drugs to infiltrate the BBB more efficiently, opening up innovative avenues to prevail over therapy problems and radiation therapy. Methods: Relevant literature for this manuscript has been collected from a comprehensive and systematic search of databases, for example, PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, and others, using specific keyword combinations, including "glioblastoma," "brain tumor," "nanocarriers," and several others. Conclusion: This review also provides deep insights into recent advancements in nanocarrier-based formulations and technologies for GBM management. Elucidation of various scientific advances in conjunction with encouraging findings concerning the future perspectives and challenges of nanocarriers for effective brain tumor management has also been discussed.
