The ostrich, the flightless Ratite, is the world's largest bird. Ostrich has been reared in Romania for many years, but we have limited information on this species. The aim of this paper is to provide information on the social behavior of the ostrich (Struthio camelus) in captivity. Ostrich products, meat skin, and eggs are considered luxury products not only in Romania but also abroad. Observations on the social behavior of captive ostrich were made on two extensive farms in Romania in Arad County. The most common behavior patterns are walking, sitting, standing, foraging, pecking, dancing, coprophagia and aggression. The captive ostriches spend most of their time standing, resting or bathing, and nest-making. In the summer period, ostriches show the greatest difference in their behavior, they are more inactive and sit more in rainy weather than in dry periods. In the breeding season, they become more aggressive. They are violent toward humans, juveniles, even each other and other species. Some individuals may be showing abnormal behavior such as feather pecking, anorexia, coprophagy, and dietary indiscretion. Researches were carried out in a commercial sheep farm from Arad county, situated in western Romania. Yearling ewes, with their age ranging from 12 to 13 months were included in the trial. Two genotypes were considered, purebred indigenous Turcana (TA, n = 18) and R1 German Blackheaded 75% x Turcana 25% (R1GBT, n = 17) backcrosses. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effects that crossbreeding local Turcana sheep with the meat specialized German Blackheaded breed have on the body development of maiden ewes. Results have shown that the R1GBT back-cross gimmers had a significantly (p≤0.001) higher body weight, of 56.81 kg when compared with the TA purebreds, which had on average 45.0 kg. Wool production and the length of the wool-staple was significantly higher (p≤0.001) in TA yearling ewes when compared to their counterparts. Results of the current study outlined that the R1GBT yearling ewes are more precocious when body weight is concerned, and this could lead to their introduction to reproduction starting with 12 months of age. Introduction and Aims: Opioid overdose prevention programs providing take-home naloxone have been expanding internationally. This paper summarises findings and lessons learnt from the Overdose Prevention and Emergency Naloxone Project which is the first take-home naloxone program in Australia implemented in a health care setting.Methods: The Project intervention provided education and take-home naloxone to opioid-using clients at Kirketon Road Centre and The Langton Centre in Sydney. The evaluation study examined uptake and acceptability of the intervention; participants' knowledge and attitudes regarding overdose and participants' experience in opioid overdose situations six months after the intervention. Participants completed baseline, post-training and follow-up questionnaires regarding overdose prevention and management which were analysed using repeated measures analysis of variance.Results: Eighty-three people participated in the intervention, with 35 (42%) completing follow-up interviews-51% reporting using naloxone with 30 overdoses successfully reversed. There were significant improvements in knowledge and attitudes immediately following training with much retained at follow-up, particularly regarding feeling informed enough (97%) and confident to inject naloxone (100%).Discussion: Take-home naloxone programs can be successfully implemented in Australian health settings. Barriers to uptake, such as lengthy processes and misperceptions around interest in overdose prevention, should be addressed in future program implementation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

After Romania's accession to the European Union, it assumed responsibility for the implementation of the European legislative stipulations in all fields, including in the field of environmental protection, which means implementation of the Habitats Directive (92/43 EEC) provisions, which refers to the conservation of community interest species and habitats. In this context, specific conservation strategies have been developed according to the biotic and abiotic profile of the Natura 2000 Sites. The profile of the ichthyocenosis within the Natura 2000 Site ROSCI0032 Cheile Rudariei was based on the scientific queries (inventory and monitoring of the community interest ichthyofauna, SR EN 14011:2003), that followed: identification of species, the number of individuals, individuals waist, the biomass, sex and age, as well as physical and chemical parameters of the aquatic environment. The ichthyocenosis within the Natura 2000 Site ROSCI0032 Cheile Rudariei have in their structure the following species: (1138 CN 2000) Barbus meridionalis (community interest species), Salmo trutta fario, (1163 CN 2000) Cottus gobio (community interest species), Phoxinus phoxinus, (4123 CN 2000) Eudontomyzon danfordi (community interest species), Nemachilus barbatulus, Leuciscus cephalus, (1124/6144 CN 2000) Romanogobio albipinnatus (community interest species) and Alburnoides bipunctatus. Barbus meridionalis population is well represented at the site because the aquatic ecosystem has specific habitats for feeding, rest, reproduction and winterin. The habitat area of the species was 2.0-3.0 ha, and the species population size was estimated at 5,000-10,000 individuals (class 6). The population of Eudontomyzon danfordi occupied an area of 0.5-1.0 ha at the site level and the population was estimated at 500-1,000 individuals (class 4). Cottus gobio species is well represented at the site because the species population size was estimated at 1,000-5,000 individuals (class 5) and the habitat area of the species was 1.5-2.0 ha. The community interest species Romanogobio albipinnatus was identified in the neighborhood of the Natura 2000 Site ROSCI0032 Cheile Rudariei. Processing of gross data has highlighted the fact that the ichthyocenosis conservation status at the site level was favorable and has a stable trend. Temporary or permanent hydrotechnical facilities without scientific approval represent the current and future anthropogenic pressure that may influence the conservation status of the community interest ichthyocenosis, but scientific queries have allowed the development of a package of conservation strategies found in the Management Plan of Natura 2000 Site ROSCI0032 Cheile Rudariei, approved by normative act. The aim of this work was to develop a shell-less culture system for chicken embryos. There were examined the conditions required for embryonic hatching by comparing factors such as the addition of calcium lactate and optimal moisture monitoring, and the plastic wrap along with a glass were used as culture medium. Observations on the development of the chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus) embryo were made from day 1 until the hatching age of the chick, day 21. In our study, the embryos were transferred to the artificial environment after different numbers of days, starting on day 0 (without being preincubated), 24, 48, 55 and 72 hours after preincubation. A number of 10 eggs were used in each sample. As study material we used eggs from mixed breed, kept free chickens from private households. The data obtained showed that the pre-incubation period until the transfer of embryos to the culture vessel influenced the viability and success of the embryo. Transfer of embryos to the culture vessel without preincubation is not recommended because the embryos did not survive more than three days. The transfer of the embryos to the culture vessel at 24 hours led to the survival of the embryos until the fifth day, reaching the maximum mortality on the fourth day. The highest viability was obtained at 72 hours of preincubation, and when the embryo was transferred to the culture vessel after 80 hours, it was difficult to transfer without destroying the yolk membrane. Observations on behavior of captive ostrich chicks from six weeks to one year were made three times a day: morning, lunch and afternoon, in a extensive farm from Romania. The main categories of behaviors identified at captive ostrich chicks were: feeding behavior, drinking, lithophagia, resting, dancing, walking, socializing, coprophagia and aggression. Regarding the feeding behavior of six weeks-old ostrich chicks, the largest share were fed with green fodder with percentage of 8%. Also, when moving through the paddock, only a small percentage of 1% were ingesting sand. The drinking had a small percentage of 2%. It was observed that refilling the concentrated feed gutters stimulated ostriches to eat. It has also been observed that they pick up stones from the ground or just nibble on the ground as they walk. In 1-year-old chicks, feed is administered several times during a day. If in 6-week-old chicks, coprophagy had a high percentage, in one-year-old chicks, this phenomenon is not common. In 1-year-old ostrich chicks, in resting periods they stay with their eyes closed for periods ranging from thirty seconds to three minutes. The rest in standing position had a weight of about 5%, the very low percentage is due to the overpopulation in the paddock, the animals being often disturbed by those who walk. On the global and national level, aphids are an entomological group most important in terms of their implications for agriculture and horticulture. They produce extended harm to most plants, either directly, by extracting the sap of the plant, or indirectly by the transmission of a large number of phytopathogenic viruses. Given these considerations, and that in Romania there is insufficient research on the structure of aphid fauna, flight dynamics on the cherry tree, our research can make important contributions in this area. The study presents data referring to the flight behavior of aphids on cherry tree. The research has been carried out in 2007. Species were collected from orchards from Didactic Station Timisoara (Timiş County - a plain area) and Varfurile, (Arad County - a mountain area) from Romania. In the pedoclimatic conditions in the West of Romania, following the researches carried out in 2017, the aphid fauna of the cherry in the plain area was very rich with a total of 12 species: Aphis fabae, Aphis frangulae, Aphis pomi, Aphis nasturti, Brachycaudus cardui, Brachycaudus, Dysaphis plantaginea, Hyalopterus pruni, Myzus persicae, Phorodon humuli, Rhopalosiphum padi, Rhopalosiphum poae. Regarding flight behavior of aphid populations, the month of May began with large population, reaching the highest number of individuals in the last decade, when there were collected 12 species of aphids. August is characterized by a regression period of the flight intensity, the population is reduced due to adverse thermal conditions and the fact that many species of aphids have migrated to secondary host plants. Regarding flight behavior, levels peak in May and September, when aphids return the primary host plant. Knowing aphids fauna of cherry tree and flight behavior is important for optimal timing of treatments application to combat aphids.
