BackgroundeHealth literacy can potentially facilitate web-based information seeking and taking informed measures. ObjectiveThis study aimed to evaluate socioeconomic disparities in eHealth literacy and seeking of web-based information on COVID-19, and their associations with COVID-19 preventive behaviors. MethodsThe COVID-19 Health Information Survey (CoVHIns), using telephonic (n=500) and web-based surveys (n=1001), was conducted among adults in Hong Kong in April 2020. The Chinese eHealth literacy scale (eHEALS; score range 8-40) was used to measure eHealth literacy. COVID-19 preventive behaviors included wearing surgical masks, wearing fabric masks, washing hands, social distancing, and adding water or bleach to the household drainage system. Adjusted beta coefficients and the slope indices of inequality for the eHEALS score by socioeconomic status, adjusted odds ratios (aORs) for seeking of web-based information on COVID-19 by socioeconomic status, and aORs for the high adherence to preventive behaviors by the eHEALS score and seeking of web-based information on COVID-19 were calculated. BackgroundConvenient and quality family communication improves family functioning and well-being. Using mobile instant messaging (IM) for family communication is increasingly popular, but its association with family functioning and family well-being has not been reported. ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to examine the association of the use of family IM chat groups with family functioning and well-being, and the mediating effect of family communication quality among Chinese adults in Hong Kong. MethodsWe analyzed data from the Family and Health Information Trend Survey (FHInTS), a territory-wide, probability-based telephone survey conducted in 2017. The quality of family communication, family functioning, and well-being was assessed using the Family Communication Scale; Family Adaptation, Partnership, Growth, Affection, and Resolve (APGAR) Scale; and Family Well-Being Scale (family heath, harmony, and happiness), respectively. Respondents also reported the number of family IM chat groups (0, 1, 2, ≥3), and numbers of IM messages received (20) and sent (20) daily. The frequency of family IM chat interaction (range 0-8) was calculated by combining the number of messages received from and sent to the family IM chat groups daily. Covariates included sociodemographic characteristics and the frequency of family face-to-face communication (often, sometimes, seldom, or never). Data were weighted by sex, age, and education of the general population. Adjusted β coefficients of family functioning and well-being in relation to having a family IM chat group, and numbers of messages received and sent were calculated. The mediation effects of family communication on these associations were assessed, controlling for the covariates. ResultsA random sample of 1638 Chinese adults (45.6% men; 78.1% aged 25 to 64 years) were interviewed (response rate: 74.4%). BackgroundElectronic devices (eDevices) may have positive or negative influences on family communication and well-being depending on how they are used. ObjectiveWe examined eDevice use during family time and its association with the quality of family communication and well-being in Hong Kong Chinese adults. MethodsIn 2017, a probability-based 2-stage random sampling landline telephone survey collected data on eDevice use in daily life and during family time (eg, family dinner) and the presence of rules banning eDevice use during family dinner. Family communication quality was rated from 0 to 10 with higher scores being favorable. Family well-being was calculated as a composite mean score of 3 items each using the same scale from 0 to 10. The associations of family communication quality and well-being with eDevice use in daily life and during family time were estimated using beta-coefficient (β) adjusting for sociodemographics. The mediating role of family communication quality in the association between eDevice use and family well-being was analyzed. ResultsOf the 2064 respondents (mean age 56.4 [SD 19.2] years, 1269/2064 [61.48%] female), 1579/2059 (76.69%) used an eDevice daily for a mean of 3.6 hours (SD 0.1) and 257/686 (37.5%) used it for 30+ minutes before sleep. As much as 794/2046 (38.81%) often or sometimes used an eDevice during family time including dinner (311/2017, 15.42%); 713/2012 (35.44%) reported use of an eDevice by family members during dinner. Lower family communication quality was associated with hours of eDevice use before sleep (adjusted β=–.25; 95% CI –0.44 to –0.05), and often use (vs never use) of eDevice during family dinner by oneself (adjusted β=–.51; 95% CI –0.91 to –0.10) and family members (adjusted β=–.54; 95% CI –0.79 to –0.29). Similarly, lower family well-being was associated with eDevice use before sleep (adjusted β=–.26; 95% CI –0.42 to –0.09), and often use during family dinner by oneself (adjusted β=–.48; 95% CI –0.83 to –0.12) and family members (adjusted β=–.50; 95% CI –0.72 to –0.28). Total ban of eDevice use during family dinner was negatively associated with often use by oneself (adjusted odds ratio 0.49; 95% CI 0.29 to 0.85) and family members (adjusted odds ratio 0.41; 95% CI 0.28, 0.60) but not with family communication and well-being. Lower family communication quality substantially mediated the total effect of the association of eDevice use time before sleep (61.2%) and often use at family dinner by oneself (87.0%) and by family members (67.8%) with family well-being. ConclusionseDevice use before sleep and during family dinner was associated with lower family well-being, and the association was substantially mediated by family communication quality. Our results suggest that interventions on smart use of eDevice may improve family communication and well-being.

BackgroundHong Kong has a high rate of electronic device (e-device; computer, smartphone, and tablet) use. However, little is known about the associations of the duration of e-device use before and after sleep with psychological symptoms. ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the associations of the duration of e-device use before and after sleep with psychological distress. MethodsA probability-based telephone survey was conducted on 3162 Hong Kong adults (54.6% female; mean age 47.4 years, SD 18.3 years) in 2016. Multivariate linear and Poisson regressions were used to calculate adjusted regression coefficients (aBs) and prevalence ratios (aPRs) of anxiety and depressive symptoms (measured by Patient Health Questionnaire-4) for the duration from waking to the first e-device use (≥61, 31-60, 6-30, and ≤5 minutes) and the duration of e-device use before sleeping (≤5, 6-30, 31-60, and ≥61 minutes). ResultsThe first e-device use in ≤5 (vs ≥61) minutes after waking was associated with anxiety (aB 0.35, 95% CI 0.24-0.46; aPR 1.74, 95% CI 1.34-2.25) and depressive symptoms (aB 0.27, 95% CI 0.18-0.37; aPR 1.84, 95% CI 1.33-2.54). Using e-devices for ≥61 (vs ≤5) minutes before sleeping was also associated with anxiety (aB 0.17, 95% CI 0.04-0.31; aPR 1.32, 95% CI 1.01-1.73) and depressive symptoms (aB 0.17, 95% CI 0.05-0.28; aPR 1.47, 95% CI 1.07-2.02). E-device use both ≤5 minutes after waking and for ≥61 minutes before sleeping was strongly associated with anxiety (aB 0.68, 95% CI 0.47-0.90; aPR 2.64, 95% CI 1.90-3.67) and depressive symptoms (aB 0.55, 95% CI 0.36-0.74; aPR 2.56, 95% CI 1.69-3.88). ConclusionsE-device use immediately (≤5 minutes) after waking and use for a long duration (≥61 minutes) before sleeping were associated with anxiety and depressive symptoms among Chinese adults in Hong Kong.

Distributed drive electric vehicles (DDEV), characterized by their independently drivable wheels, offer significant advantages in terms of vehicle handling, stability, and energy efficiency. These attributes collectively contribute to enhancing driving safety and extending the all-electric range for sustainable transportation. Nonetheless, the challenge persists in designing a control strategy that effectively coordinates the objectives of handling, stability, and energy efficiency under both lateral and longitudinal driving conditions. To this end, this paper proposes a cooperative control strategy for DDEVs, incorporating active rear steering (ARS) and direct yaw moment control (DYC) to enhance handling capabilities, stability, and energy efficiency. A stability boundary is delineated using an analytical expression that correlates with the front wheel steering angle, and an adjustment factor is introduced to quantify vehicle stability based on this input parameter. This factor aids in establishing a coordinated control reference for handling and stability. At the upper-level motion control layer, a model predictive control method is developed to track this reference and implement ARS and DYC for superior performance. Specifically, the rear lateral force serves as the control command for ARS, which is converted into a rear wheel steering angle using a tire inverse model. Meanwhile, the front lateral force is modeled as linear-time-varying to simplify calculations. At the lower-level torque allocation layer, the adjustment factor is utilized to balance tire workload rate and in-wheel motors' (IWM) energy consumption, enabling efficient switching between energy consumption and driving stability targets, and the torque allocation is conducted to acquire the expected IWMs' command. Both the upper and lower-level optimization problems are formulated as convex problems, ensuring efficient and effective solutions. Simulations verify the effectiveness of this strategy in improving handling, stability, and energy economy under DLC cases, while maintaining high computational efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: To explore intentions to stay of pediatric nurses and to determine how pediatric nurse–parent partnership and perceived stress differ among the subgroups. Background and introduction: The shortage of nurses, particularly pediatric nurses, has become a global problem. Intention to stay has been an established predictor of nurse retention. Less is known about the heterogeneity of intention to stay and the specific characteristics, which may restrict the effectiveness of prevention and interventions for pediatric nurse retention. Methods: This was a cross‐sectional online survey. A total of 603 pediatric nurses were surveyed on their pediatric nurse–parent partnership, perceived stress, and intention to stay. Latent class analysis, multinomial logistic regression, and univariate analysis were used to analyze the related factors. We followed the STROBE checklist. Results: Three latent classes of intention to stay were identified: low level, moderate level, and high level. Aged between 31 and 35, higher perceived stress, contract nurse, and no spouse were associated with the low level of intention to stay. Good sensitivity in the pediatric nurse–parent partnership was associated with high level of intention to stay. Having a spouse was associated with moderate level compared with low level of intention to stay. Discussion and conclusion: Our study was one of the first to show three different classes of intention to stay of pediatric nurses, and the specific sociodemographic information, perceived stress, and pediatric nurse–patient partnership associated with different classes of intention to stay were reported. Implications for nursing and/or health policy: Our results informed the development of pediatric nurse support strategies. Nurse managers could consider the specific factors affecting the intention to stay and make great efforts in developing strategies and projects for different classes of intention to stay that can maximize nurse intention to stay. Aim: To examine the association between positive mental well‐being and professional identity in nursing students. The mediating effects of resilience and nurse–patient relationship were explored. Background: Professional identity of nursing students can influence their pursuit of a nursing career. Negative mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression, and high stress, are known risk factors for professional identity. Few studies have examined the association of professional identity with positive mental well‐being and underlying mechanisms. Methods: This was a cross‐sectional study of Chinese nursing students on clinical placement. The Warwick–Edinburgh Mental Well‐being Scale, Professional Identity Scale, Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale, Nurse–Patient Relationship Scale, and Patient Health Questionnaire were used, and demographic and study‐related characteristics were measured. Multivariable linear regression and mediation analyses analyzed the associations. We followed the STROBE reporting guidelines. Results: Of 208 participants, the total scores of positive mental well‐being and professional identity were at a moderate level. Positive mental well‐being was associated with professional identity after adjusting for confounders including the main reason for choosing nursing and negative mental health. Resilience was a full mediator of the association between positive mental well‐being and professional identity, whereas nurse–patient relationship was a partial mediator. Discussion and conclusion: Positive mental well‐being was associated with professional identity in Chinese nursing students on clinical placement, mediated through resilience and nurse–patient relationship. Positive mental well‐being can be a facilitator for the professional identity of nursing students, and resilience and nurse–patient relationship could be potential mechanisms for nurse professional development. Implications for nursing and/or health policy: Nurse researchers, educators, and policymakers are informed to increase the awareness of positive mental well‐being and develop interventions targeting resilience and nurse–patient relationship for building a stable and satisfied nursing team. Objective: This study aimed to examine the trajectories of body mass index-for-age z-score (BAZ) in preschoolers and its association with parental feeding practices, weight perception, and children's appetitive traits. Methods: A total of 433 preschoolers and their parents from eight public kindergartens in Shanghai were assessed annually over two years. A group-based trajectory model was employed to identify distinct BAZ patterns. Logistic regression was utilized to investigate the baseline factors associated with the BAZ trajectories. Results: Three distinct BAZ trajectories were identified among the preschoolers: "low-stable group" (n = 154, 37.3%), "moderate-stable group" (n = 214, 47.3%), and "progressive overweight and obesity group" (n = 65, 15.4%). The children perceived as overweight and obese by parents (OR = 10.57, 95% CI: 4.89–22.86), and those with lower satiety responsiveness at baseline (OR = 0.86, 95%CI: 0.76–0.97) were more likely to fall into the progressive overweight and obesity group as opposed to the moderate-stable group. Conversely, the children perceived as underweight by parents (OR = 457, 95%CI: 2.71–7.70) had a higher likelihood of being in the low-stable group rather than the moderate-stable group. Conclusions: This study unveiled three unique body weight trajectories among preschool children. Parental perception of children's weight and lower satiety responsiveness were associated with preschoolers' subsequent weight change, while parental feeding practices were not associated. For human–machine collaborative driving conditions, a hierarchical chassis multi-objective cooperative control method is proposed in this paper. Firstly, based on the phase plane theory, vehicle dynamics analysis is carried out to complete the definition of vehicle stability region. Secondly, based on the linear time-varying (LTV) system model, a cooperative control strategy combining fuzzy control with model predictive control (MPC) is proposed in the upper layer. In this strategy, the assisted driving weight adjustment coefficient and the stability weight adjustment coefficient are obtained by fuzzy mapping combining human–machine cooperation index and the vehicle stability region, respectively, and the optimization objectives of MPC are designed based on the above coefficients. In the lower layer torque allocation strategy, the stability weight adjustment coefficient is introduced to achieve multi-objective optimization of tire load rate and energy efficiency. For energy efficiency optimization, an optimal energy efficiency point-based tracking method is proposed to avoid nonlinearity caused by the introduction of motor loss models. Simulation analysis results show that the proposed strategy can effectively alleviate human–machine conflicts and improve vehicle handing stability. It also can achieve smaller tire load rate optimization through torque allocation and can reduce energy consumption by approximately 8% compared with the inter-axle torque allocation strategy. This study helps to promote the improvement of the comprehensive performance of assisted driving vehicles in human–machine cooperation, handling stability, and energy-saving torque distribution.
