1. Effects of Filtering and Current-Angle Adjustment on the Multi-Material Topology Optimization of a Three-Phase Stator

Abstract

This article investigates the multi-material topology optimization (MMTO) of the three-phase stator of an electrical machine. The density-based optimization framework uses a gradient descent on the physical properties of the candidate materials (magnetic polarization and current density). The results indicate that a smoothing procedure is necessary to avoid non-manufacturable designs and promote a broader exploration of solutions. They also highlight a current angle shifting due to the presence of permanent magnets from the beginning of the optimization. The current angle is, therefore, added to the optimization variables to address this issue. An efficient optimization procedure that couples both techniques is proposed to improve the performance of the algorithm. The following hybrid method returns symmetrical results that perform better than the asymmetrical structures obtained with the other techniques applied independently, indicating that the asymmetry represents a local optimum.

Two global field windings introduce not only a more complicated structure but also additional heat sources and heat evacuation difficulties. In this research, the thermal analysis is accomplished by using a lumped parameter model, and results are compared with experiments.

Abstract

International audience; This paper deals with a structural optimization to improve the open circuit flux control capability of a double excitation synchronous motor. In this kind of motor, the air-gap flux varies according to the field current. It can be weakened or enhanced when decreasing or increasing the field current. For a specific machine geometry, minimum and maximum air-gap flux are found at certain field currents. It is, therefore, desirable to minimize the minimum flux and maximize the maximum one to improve the controlling effectiveness of the field windings. That objective is the focus of this paper through a structural optimization. The machine is modeled by using an equivalent magnetic circuit network. Some interesting points on the non-dominated pareto front will be verified against ones obtained with the 3-D finite element method.

Abstract

International audience; The utilization of nodal based – generalized equivalent magnetic circuit method (EMCM) in the modeling of a double excitation synchronous machine (DESM) is presented in this paper. Nonlinear magnetization characteristic is taken into consideration. This method shows a distinguishing advantage over the finite element method (FEM) in term of computation time. The validity of the EMC results are examined by comparisons with 3D FEM.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to compare performances of two configurations of an embedded Claw Pole Alternator (CPA) where the excitation winding is transferred to the stator side. These configurations are: the Simple Excited Automotive Alternator (SE2A) and the Hybrid Excited Automotive Alternator (HE2A). Performed study is based on test at no-load and under load operation regimes, using Magnetic Equivalent Circuit (MEC) models validated experimentally. It has been found that the hybrid Excited claw pole alternator provides higher performances, due to the increase of leakage flux through the integration of permanent magnets between adjacent rotor claws. 27. The curious case of polyphenols as green corrosion inhibitors: a review on their extraction, design, and applications.

Abstract

Over the past century, a substantial amount of research focused on developing corrosion inhibitors, with a special focus on green "plant-based" corrosion inhibitors. Among the various types of inhibitors, polyphenols emerged as a promising candidate due to their advantageous characteristics, which include being inexpensive, biodegradable, renewable, and, most importantly, safe for both the environment and humans. Their performance as sustainable corrosion inhibitors have encouraged many electrochemical experiments as well as theoretical, mechanistic, and computational studies, with many papers reporting inhibition efficiencies of over 85%. In this review, the majority of literature contributions on the inhibition of various types of polyphenols, their natural extraction techniques, and their applications as "greener" corrosion inhibitors for metals are thoroughly described and discussed with a focus on their preparation, inhibition mechanism, and performance. Based on the reviewed literature, it can be concluded that polyphenols have a very promising potential to be used as both green and powerful corrosion inhibitors; therefore, further investigations, experimental or computational, are still required to realize higher inhibition efficiencies reaching up to ≈ 100%., (© 2023. Abstract

Coronary artery aneurysms are uncommon, are usually associated with atherosclerosis, and rarely involve all three major coronary arteries. Data on the optimal choice of acute myocardial infarction (AMI)´s revascularization in the context of polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is limited to case reports and is still an open question. The present report describes a rare case of a young male patient followed for PAN presenting with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Coronary angiography revealed multiple severe aneurysmal and stenotic changes. Based on clinical feature and angiographic findings, it was strongly suspected that the AMI was a complication of his vasculitis. This case indicates that coronary artery involvement should be carefully monitored during the chronic phase of PAN. The pathophysiology of AMI in PAN patients should be kept in mind and the interventional approach must be performed according to the angiographic findings to avoid complications., Competing Interests: The authors declare no competing interests., (Copyright: Mayssem Gabsi et al.)
