Abstract

Laser cladding nickel-base coatings are playing an important role in improving the surface properties of materials due to their high bonding strength and good wear resistance.However，the hardness and wear resistance of common nickel-based coatings are difficult to meet the application requirements of parts in harsh environment due to the lack of wear-resistant hard phase.In order to further improve the wear resistance of the coating，several strategies were proposed by domestic and foreign scholars: mechanically adding or in-situ synthesizing hard ceramic particles in the coating，or adding graphene，carbon nanotubes and rare earth oxides in the coating，or establishing a prediction model between the process parameters and the coating performance and then optimizing the process parameters using algorithms such as adaptive chaos differential evolution algorithm and gray correlation analysis，or using auxiliary processing in laser cladding.In this paper，the influence of coating composition，process parameters and auxiliary treatment on wear resistance of nickel-base composite coating was reviewed，and the development prospect of laser cladding nickel-base composite coating was put forward.

Abstract

The microstructure evolution of boron-bearing high speed steel roll materials after casting and tempering was investigated. The results indicate that as-cast boron-bearing high speed steel consists of martensitic matrix, retained austenite and different borocarbides. The as-cast alloy has a hardness above 64 HRC, and the borocarbides distribute along the grain boundaries. After RE-Mg-Ti compound modification treatment, obvious necking and broken network appear in the grain boundaries. The hardness of boron-bearing high speed steel roll materials reduces gradually with the increase of tempering temperature. Under the same conditions, the toughness of the modified roll material is higher than that of the unmodified roll material. Wear tests show that the wear resistance of boron-bearing high-speed steel modified by RE-Mg-Ti compound modification treatment is better.

25. Wear resistance optimized by heat treatment of an in-situTiC strengthened AlCoCrFeNi laser cladding coating

Abstract

An AlCoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy coating containing 20 % mass fraction of TiC was prepared using the laser cladding method. The effect of heat treatment on the coating’s microstructure was analyzed through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It was observed that following high-temperature heat treatment, the phase transition of AlCoCrFeNi–20%TiC shifted from BCC to FCC at 750 °C. Through microhardness and wear resistance tests, the increased diffusion of carbon post-heat treatment led to a higher precipitation of TiC-reinforced phases, resulting in exceptional wear resistance with a notable 128.3 % enhancement.

37. Effect of boron on microstructure evolution and properties of wear-resistant cast Fe–Si–Mn–Cr–B alloy

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to clarify the effect of boron content on the microstructure evolution, mechanical properties, and three-body abrasive wear property of as-cast Fe–Si–Mn–Cr–B alloys, and to reveal the wear mechanism of Fe–Si–Mn–Cr–B alloys. The results indicated that the microstructure of the Fe–Si–Mn–Cr–B alloy was mainly composed of bainite, retained austenite (RA), M3B2, and M2B (M stands for the metal atom, in this case, it refers to Fe, Cr, and Mn). With the increase of boron content, the volume fraction of the boride phase increased, the morphology of the boride phase was dominated by fishbone, the microhardness of the boride phase and the macrohardness of the alloy increased, and the wear resistance of the alloy was significantly enhanced. Compared with the 0.5 wt.% B alloy, the macrohardness of the 2.0 wt.% B alloy was increased by 19.5%, the maximum microhardness of the boride phase reached 1440 HV0.2, the Charpy impact toughness was reduced by 45%, and the wear resistance was increased by 268%. The morphology, content and distribution of the boride phase play a key role in improving the hardness and wear resistance of the alloy. The synergy between the high-hardness boride phase and the softer metal matrix phase, which was composed of bainite and RA, gave the alloy excellent wear resistance. The main wear mechanisms of the alloy were abrasive wear and fretting wear.
