Abstract

In the past decade filaments have been recognised as a major structural element of the interstellar medium, the densest of these filaments hosting the formation of most stars. In some star-forming molecular clouds converging networks of filaments, also known as hub filament systems, can be found. These hubs are believed to be preferentially associated to massive star formation. As of today, there are no metrics that allow the systematic quantification of a filament network convergence. Here, we used the IRAM 30m NIKA2 observations of the Galactic plane from the GASTON large programme to systematically identify filaments and produce a filament convergence parameter map. We use such a map to show that: i. hub filaments represent a small fraction of the global filament population; ii. hubs host, in proportion, more massive and more luminous compact sources that non-hubs; iii. hub-hosting clumps are more evolved that non-hubs; iv. no discontinuities are observed in the properties of compact sources as a function of convergence parameter. We propose that the rapid global collapse of clumps is responsible for (re)organising filament networks into hubs and, in parallel, enhancing the mass growth of compact sources., Comment: To appear in the Proceedings of the International Conference entitled "mm Universe @ NIKA2", Rome (Italy), June 2021, EPJ Web of conferences

Abstract

Extraction of the multi-TeV proton and lead LHC beams with a bent crystal or by using an internal gas target allows one to perform the most energetic fixed-target experiment ever. pp, pd and pA collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 115 GeV and Pbp and PbA collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 72 GeV can be studied with high precision and modern detection techniques over a broad rapidity range. Using the LHCb or the ALICE detector in a fixed-target mode offers unprecedented possibilities to access heavy-flavour production in a new energy domain, half way between the SPS and the nominal RHIC energy. In this contribution, a review of projection studies for quarkonium and open charm and beauty production with both detector set-ups used with various nuclear targets and the LHC lead beams is presented., Comment: Hard Probes 2020 proceedings

Abstract

This report describes the physics case, the resulting detector requirements, and the evolving detector concepts for the experimental program at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). The EIC will be a powerful new high-luminosity facility in the United States with the capability to collide high-energy electron beams with high-energy proton and ion beams, providing access to those regions in the nucleon and nuclei where their structure is dominated by gluons. Moreover, polarized beams in the EIC will give unprecedented access to the spatial and spin structure of the proton, neutron, and light ions. The studies leading to this document were commissioned and organized by the EIC User Group with the objective of advancing the state and detail of the physics program and developing detector concepts that meet the emerging requirements in preparation for the realization of the EIC. The effort aims to provide the basis for further development of concepts for experimental equipment best suited for the science needs, including the importance of two complementary detectors and interaction regions. This report consists of three volumes. Volume I is an executive summary of our findings and developed concepts. In Volume II we describe studies of a wide range of physics measurements and the emerging requirements on detector acceptance and performance. Volume III discusses general-purpose detector concepts and the underlying technologies to meet the physics requirements. Abstract

The Spin Physics Detector (SPD) is a future multipurpose experiment foreseen to run at the NICA collider, which is currently under construction at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR, Dubna, Russia). The physics program of the experiment is based on collisions of longitudinally and transversely polarized protons and deuterons at $\sqrt{s}$ up to 27 GeV and luminosity up to 10$^{32}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. The SPD will operate as a universal facility for comprehensive study of unpolarized and polarized gluon content of the nucleon, using different complementary probes such as: charmonia, open charm, and prompt photon production processes. The aim of this work is to make a thorough review of the physics objectives that can potentially be addressed at the SPD, underlining related theoretical aspects and discussing relevant experimental results when available. Among different pertinent phenomena particular attention is drawn to the study of the gluon helicity, gluon Sivers and Boer-Mulders functions in the nucleon, as well as the gluon transversity distribution in the deuteron, via the measurement of specific single and double spin asymmetries., Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2102.00442

Abstract

The physics of high-energy colliders relies on the knowledge of different non-perturbative parton correlators, such as parton distribution functions, that encode the information on universal hadron structure and are thus the main building blocks of any factorization theorem of the underlying process in such collision. These functions are given in terms of gauge-invariant light-front operators, they are non-local in both space and real time, and are thus intractable by standard lattice techniques due to the well-known sign problem. In this paper, we propose a quantum algorithm to perform a quantum simulation of these type of correlators, and illustrate it by considering a space-time Wilson loop. Abstract

The multi-TeV proton and ion beams of the LHC would allow for the most energetic fixed-target experiment ever. In particular, $pp$, $p$d and $p$A collisions could be performed at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 115~GeV, as well as Pb$p$ and PbA collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 72~GeV, in a parasitic way by making use of the already existing LHCb and ALICE detectors in fixed-target mode. This would offer the possibility to carry out a ground-breaking physics program, to study the nucleon and nuclear structure at high $x$, the spin content of the nucleon and the phases of the nuclear matter from a new rapidity viewpoint. Abstract

Abstract

Using the LHCb and ALICE detectors in the fixed-target mode at the LHC offers unprecedented possibilities to study the quark, gluon and heavy-quark content of the proton and nuclei in the poorly known region of the high-momentum fractions. We review our projections for studies of Drell-Yan, charm, beauty and quarkonium production with both detector set-ups used with various nuclear targets and the LHC proton beams. Abstract

We review the context, the motivations and the expected performances of a comprehensive and ambitious fixed-target program using the multi-TeV proton and ion LHC beams. We also provide a detailed account of the different possible technical implementations ranging from an internal wire target to a full dedicated beam line extracted with a bent crystal. Abstract

AFTER@LHC is an ambitious fixed-target project in order to address open questions in the domain of proton and neutron spins, Quark Gluon Plasma and high-$x$ physics, at the highest energy ever reached in the fixed-target mode. Indeed, thanks to the highly energetic 7 TeV proton and 2.76 A.TeV lead LHC beams, center-of-mass energies as large as $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 115 GeV in pp/pA and $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 72 GeV in AA can be reached, corresponding to an uncharted energy domain between SPS and RHIC. We report two main ways of performing fixed-target collisions at the LHC, both allowing for the usage of one of the existing LHC experiments. Abstract

We discuss the potential of AFTER@LHC to measure single-transverse-spin asymmetries in open-charm and bottomonium production. With a HERMES-like hydrogen polarised target, such measurements over a year can reach precisions close to the per cent level. Abstract

We review a number of ideas put forward in favour of the use of a polarised target along with the proposed idea of a fixed-target experiment using the LHC beams -- AFTER@LHC. A number of recent studies have shown that single transverse-spin asymmetries (STSAs) are large enough to be precisely measured in the region accessible with AFTER@LHC, in particular as regards the Drell-Yan process as well as single-pion, isolated-photon and jet production. AFTER@LHC with a polarised target would also be the ideal experimental set-up to measure the gluon Sivers effect via a number of original quarkonium STSA studies. Abstract

We provide a concise overview on transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions, their application to topical issues in high-energy physics phenomenology, and their theoretical connections with QCD resummation, evolution and factorization theorems. We illustrate the use of TMDs via examples of multi-scale problems in hadronic collisions. These include transverse momentum q_T spectra of Higgs and vector bosons for low q_T, and azimuthal correlations in the production of multiple jets associated with heavy bosons at large jet masses. We discuss computational tools for TMDs, and present an application of a new tool, TMDlib, to parton density fits and parameterizations., Comment: 20 pages

L’educació emocional té com a objectiu el desenvolupament de competències emocionals, que són competències bàsiques per a la vida i un aspecte important del desenvolupament integral de la personalitat. Investigacions recents han posat de manifest els efectes altament positius de l’educació emocional en la millora del clima d’aula i de centre, la disminució de conflictivitat, comportament disruptiu, conflictes, violència, assetjament escolar, etc., així com una millora del rendiment acadèmic. Però, per assolir aquest objectiu, cal que hi hagi uns educadors sensibilitzats i formats per a una posada en pràctica eficient. La formació dels educadors en educació emocional és un repte que queda pendent. Aquesta és la temàtica de les XV Jornades d’Educació Emocional, on ens plantegem una sèrie de qüestions. Quines són les estratègies més eficients per a la formació dels educadors? Com s’haurien d’implicar les universitats en la formació inicial dels educadors en competències emocionals? Ha arribat l’hora de posar almenys una assignatura obligatòria sobre aquesta temàtica? Hi ha educadors sensibilitzats i formats per fer-ho? 32. Mid- to long-term results of SuPerLap single-port treatment in inguinal hernia.

Abstract

Introduction. Laparoscopic treatment of inguinal hernia is gaining popularity in many hospitals, but the use of working channel scopes is not as widely extended. We present our long-term experience with the SuPerLap (laparoscopic-assisted percutaneous suture) technique described by Rosell et al.(1) for epigastric hernia repair in the percutaneous, single-port treatment of inguinal hernia using working channel scopes. Materials and methods. A retrospective analysis of a series of male patients with congenital inguinal hernia undergoing surgery from February 2017 to December 2020 was carried out. A 5 mm- 0º pleuroscope with a 3.5 mm working channel, a 20 G epidural needle, a 36 cm/3.5 mm laparoscopic Maryland dissector, and 3-0 polypropylene and polyester sutures were used. Results. 384 inguinal hernia repairs using the SuPerLap technique were performed in 295 male patients -- 206 unilateral repairs and 89 bilateral repairs. In 24 bilateral cases (26.95%), preoperative diagnosis had been unilateral. Mean age was two years (2 weeks-13 years). Mean operating time was 14 minutes (6-50 min) for unilateral repair, and 27 minutes (14-80 min) for bilateral repair. There were two cases of epigastric vessel damage, and one case of early recurrence in a newborn, who successfully underwent re-intervention using the SuPerLap technique. No late complications were recorded after a mean follow-up of 1-36 months. Conclusions. Working channel scopes using the SuPerLap technique avoid additional ports in inguinal hernia repair. They allow for excellent functional results, without visible scars, and minimize spermatic cord manipulation. Laparoscopy allows previously undiagnosed defects to be concomitantly treated. Abstract

Background: Virtual communities of practice (vCoPs) facilitate online learning via the exchange of experiences and knowledge between interested participants. Compared to other communities, vCoPs need to overcome technological structures and specific barriers. Our objective was to pilot the acceptability and feasibility of a vCoP aimed at improving the attitudes of primary care professionals to the empowerment of patients with chronic conditions. Methods: We used a qualitative approach based on 2 focus groups: one composed of 6 general practitioners and the other of 6 practice nurses. Discussion guidelines on the topics to be investigated were provided to the moderator. Sessions were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Thematic analysis was performed using the ATLAS-ti software. Results: The available operating systems and browsers and the lack of suitable spaces and time were reported as the main difficulties with the vCoP. The vCoP was perceived to be a flexible learning mode that provided up-to-date resources applicable to routine practice and offered a space for the exchange of experiences and approaches. Conclusions: The results from this pilot study show that the vCoP was considered useful for learning how to empower patients. However, while vCoPs have the potential to facilitate learning and as shown create professional awareness regarding patient empowerment, attention needs to be paid to technological and access issues and the time demands on professionals. We collected relevant inputs to improve the features, content and educational methods to be included in further vCoP implementation. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT02757781. L’educació emocional és una innovació educativa que es proposa educar per a la vida i té com a punt de partida un conjunt de necessitats socials que no estan suficientment ateses a través de les àrees acadèmiques ordinàries, com per exemple la prevalença de violència, ansietat, estrès, depressió, comportaments de risc, etc. L’educació emocional s’emmarca dins els moviments de renovació pedagògica, de llarga tradició a Catalunya, que es proposen educar per a la vida. Manifestacions recents d’aquests moviments són Escola Nova 21 iXarxes per al canvi. Considerem que hi ha arguments de pes perquè l’educació emocional estigui al centre del canvi educatiu i, per tant, creiem que hauria d’ocupar un espai de rellevància dins aquests moviments d’innovació pedagògica. Amb aquest objectiu s’organitzen aquestes Jornades. La intenció és impulsar projectes que deixin clara la relació entre l’educació emocional i la innovació educativa, que l’educació emocional estigui present en els processos d’innovació pedagògica i que aquests la incorporin com un element essencial. Per fer patent aquesta relació, s’organitzen aquestes Jornades, en les quals col·laboren l’ICE de la UB, el GROP, Escola Nova 21 i Xarxes per al canvi, amb la intenció de fer contribucions significatives.

Abstract

Background & aims: Legumes, a low-energy, nutrient-dense and low glycemic index food, have shown beneficial effects on glycemic control and adiposity. As such, legumes are widely recommended in diabetic diets, even though there is little evidence that their consumption protects against type 2 diabetes. Therefore the aim of the present study was to examine the associations between consumption of total legumes and specific subtypes, and type 2 diabetes risk. We also investigated the effect of theoretically substituting legumes for other protein- or carbohydrate-rich foods. Methods: Prospective assessment of 3349 participants in the PREvención con DIeta MEDiterránea (PREDIMED) study without type 2 diabetes at baseline. Dietary information was assessed at baseline and yearly during follow-up. We used Cox regression models to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) for type-2 diabetes incidence according to quartiles of cumulative average consumption of total legumes, lentils, chickpeas, dry beans and fresh peas. Results: During a median follow-up of 4.3 years, 266 new cases of type 2 diabetes occurred. Individuals in the highest quartile of total legume and lentil consumption had a lower risk of diabetes than those in the lowest quartile (HR: 0.65; 95% CI: 0.43, 0.96; P-trend = 0.04; and HR: 0.67; 95% CI: 0.46–0.98; P-trend = 0.05, respectively). A borderline significant association was also observed for chickpeas consumption (HR 0.68; 95% CI: 0.46, 1.00; P-trend = 0.06). Substitutions of half a serving/day of legumes for similar servings of eggs, bread, rice or baked potato was associated with lower risk of diabetes incidence. Conclusions: A frequent consumption of legumes, particularly lentils, in the context of a Mediterranean diet, may provide benefits on type 2 diabetes prevention in older adults at high cardiovascular risk. Abstract

S’han celebrat les XIII Jornades d’Educació Emocional de la Universitat de Barcelona, gestionades per l’Institut de Ciències de l’Educació i el Grup de Recerca en Orientació Psicopedagògica (GROP), amb el tema Educació emocional a l’activitat física i l’esport els dies 31 de març i 1 d’abril, amb uns 150 participants procedents no sols de Catalunya, sinó també de la resta de l’Estat espanyol i Llatinoamèrica. Els assistents són experts en els camps de la pedagogia, psicologia, psicopedagogia, professorat d’educació física, entrenadors, àrbitres, atletes, ex-atletes d’elit, empresaris del món esportiu, acròbates i persones interessades amb la temàtica. Tots ells han pogut reflexionar sobre la importància d’educar les emocions a l’entorn de l’esport i l’activitat física, i específicament en aspectes com l’autoregulació de l’esforç, de la frustració, del respecte que cal tenir a les grades, del rol tan important que exerceixen els entrenadors, la necessitat de la formació permanent, i especialment, de la prevenció de la violència a les grades. Les ponències dels experts, taules rodones, tallers, presentació de comunicacions i pòsters, han estat una oportunitat de formació, sensibilització i formació per a la pràctica de l’activitat física i l’esport des de la perspectiva emocional.
