Abstract It is a time-consuming and costly process to develop affordable and high-performance organic photovoltaic materials. Computational methods are essential for accelerating the material discovery process by predicting power conversion efficiencies (PCE). In this study, we propose a deep learning-based framework (DeepAcceptor) to design and discover highly efficient small molecule acceptor materials. Specifically, an experimental dataset is constructed by collecting acceptor data from publications. Then, a deep learning-based model is customized to predict PCEs by applying graph representation learning to Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT), with the atom, bond, and connection information in acceptor molecular structures as the input (abcBERT). The computational dataset derived from density functional theory (DFT) calculations and the experimental dataset from literature are used to pre-train and fine-tune the model, respectively. The abcBERT model outperforms other state-of-the-art models for the PCE prediction with MAE = 1.78 and R 2 = 0.67 on the test set. A molecular generation and screening process is built to find new high-performance acceptors for PM6. Three discovered candidates are further validated by experiment, and the best PCE reaches 14.61%. The released user-friendly interface of DeepAcceptor greatly boosts the accessibility and efficiency of designing and discovering high-performance acceptors. Altogether, the DeepAcceptor framework with abcBERT is promising to predict the PCE and accelerate the discovery of high-performance acceptor materials.

Abstract Previous research on the association between Family Doctor Contract Services (FDCS) and health has only considered a single indicator of health and has not considered the endogeneity of independent variables. This study aimed to evaluate the association from a multidimensional perspective of the health of middle-aged and older people using the instrumental variables method and determine the underlying mechanisms. Using data from the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study surveys, a total of 19,438 sample was obtained. Health was measured by health related-quality of life (HR-QoL), subjective well-being, and cognitive function. The instrumental variables method was used to estimate the association. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) poses a significant threat to human health globally. It is crucial to develop a vaccine to reduce the effect of the virus on public health, economy, and society and regulate the transmission of SARS-CoV-2. Influenza B virus (IBV) can be used as a vector that does not rely on the current circulating influenza A strains. In this study, we constructed an IBV-based vector vaccine by inserting a receptor-binding domain (RBD) into a non-structural protein 1 (NS1)-truncated gene (rIBV-NS110-RBD). Subsequently, we assessed its safety, immunogenicity, and protective efficacy against SARS-CoV-2 in mice, and observed that it was safe in a mouse model. Intranasal administration of a recombinant rIBV-NS110-RBD vaccine induced high levels of SARS-CoV-2-specific IgA and IgG antibodies and T cell-mediated immunity in mice. Administering two doses of the intranasal rIBV-NS110-RBD vaccine significantly reduced the viral load and lung damage in mice. This novel IBV-based vaccine offers a novel approach for controlling the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

BackgroundInsulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) plays a crucial role in the growth and metabolic functions of various tissues and cells in the body. Recently, there has been increased attention to the association between IGF-1 and osteoarthritis (OA). However, there is controversy in current research regarding the correlation between IGF-1 levels and OA. Furthermore, the specific manner in which Body Mass Index (BMI), a key risk factor for OA, mediates the impact of IGF-1 levels on OA remains unclear.ObjectThis study aimed to investigate the bidirectional causal link between IGF-1 levels and OA in four body regions, and to explore how BMI influences the impact of IGF-1 on these types of OA.MethodTwo-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) and its combined forms were utilized to investigate the bidirectional relationship between IGF-1 levels and four types of OA, as well as the mediating role of BMI in the impact of IGF-1 levels on OA. Data from various Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) and multiple analytical methods, including inverse variance weighted, MR-Egger regression, and weighted median were utilized. Sensitivity analyses, such as MR-Egger intercept, Cochran Q test, leave-one-out, and MR-PRESSO, were conducted to ensure the robustness of the results.ResultsHigher IGF-1 levels are correlated with an increased risk for knee (OR, 1.07; 95% CI, 1.01–1.03; p = 1.49e-01; q = 9.86e-03), hip (OR, 1.13; 95% CI, 1.06–1.20; p = 7.61e-05; q = 7.44e-05), and hand OA (OR, 1.09; 95% CI, 1.01–1.17; p = 1.88e-02; q = 1.15e-02), but not spine OA but not spine OA (OR, 1.05; 95% CI, 0.99–1.10; p = 9.20e-02; q = 5.52e-02). Different types of OA do not affect IGF-1 levels. BMI mediates the increase in OA risk associated with higher IGF-1, including indirect spine OA risk through BMI.ConclusionThe study elucidates the bidirectional causality between IGF-1 levels and OA in various body parts, highlighting BMI’s mediating role in the impact of IGF-1 levels on OA. This provides valuable insights for OA prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies. Future research will expand our study to include a broader spectrum of ethnicities and explore the underlying mechanisms involved.

Apple replant disease (ARD), caused by Fusarium pathogens, is a formidable threat to the renewal of apple varieties in China, necessitating the development of effective and sustainable control strategies. In this study, the bacterial strain BA-4 was isolated from the rhizosphere soil of healthy apple trees in a replanted orchard, demonstrating a broad-spectrum antifungal activity against five crucial apple fungal pathogens. Based on its morphology, physiological and biochemical traits, utilization of carbon sources, and Gram stain, strain BA-4 was tentatively identified as Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. Phylogenetic analysis using 16S rDNA and gyrB genes conclusively identified BA-4 as B. amyloliquefaciens. In-depth investigations into B. amyloliquefaciens BA-4 revealed that the strain possesses the capacity to could secrete cell wall degrading enzymes (protease and cellulase), produce molecules analogous to indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and siderophores, and solubilize phosphorus and potassium. The diverse attributes observed in B. amyloliquefaciens BA-4 underscore its potential as a versatile microorganism with multifaceted benefits for both plant well-being and soil fertility. The extracellular metabolites produced by BA-4 displayed a robust inhibitory effect on Fusarium hyphal growth and spore germination, inducing irregular swelling, atrophy, and abnormal branching of fungal hyphae. In greenhouse experiments, BA-4 markedly reduced the disease index of Fusarium-related ARD, exhibiting protective and therapeutic efficiencies exceeding 80% and 50%, respectively. Moreover, BA-4 demonstrated plant-promoting abilities on both bean and Malus robusta Rehd. (MR) seedlings, leading to increased plant height and primary root length. Field experiments further validated the biocontrol effectiveness of BA-4, demonstrating its ability to mitigate ARD symptoms in MR seedlings with a notable 33.34% reduction in mortality rate and improved biomass. Additionally, BA-4 demonstrates robust and stable colonization capabilities in apple rhizosphere soil, particularly within the 10-20 cm soil layer, which indicates that it has long-term effectiveness potential in field conditions. Overall, B. amyloliquefaciens BA-4 emerges as a promising biocontrol agent with broad-spectrum antagonistic capabilities, positive effects on plant growth, and strong colonization abilities for the sustainable management of ARD in apple cultivation.

In the present work, a power battery pack and a novel thermal management system (TMS) based on the tubular heat pipe (THP) technology are designed according to the parameters of a pure electric light truck and battery. The TMS consists of THPs, power batteries, cooling plates, fins, and equivalent thermal conductivity is used to characterize the excellent thermal conductivity of THP. The heat generation rate of the battery at different discharge rates is obtained by establishing a multi-scale electrochemical–thermal coupling model, which accuracy is verified by the experiment. A multi-physics field coupling model is built to the thermal management system designed for the study. The results show that the battery temperature is higher when the battery is far from the THP in the cooling plate, and the maximum temperature reaches 35.6 °C at 1 C. Furthermore, the temperature difference between batteries is proportional to the discharge rate, and the maximum temperature difference reaches 7 °C at 2 C. The change in inlet temperature and wind speed can only restrain the temperature rise, while the temperature difference of the battery module is always 3.2 °C. When a fin spacing of 3 mm is chosen, the best temperature uniformity of the battery module is achieved at this time. The use of the multi-scale multi-physics field coupling analysis method in BTMS with heat pipes can be used as a reference for future numerical simulations of the same type.

Abstract Since 2019, SARS-CoV-2 has evolved rapidly and gained resistance to multiple therapeutics targeting the virus. Development of host-directed antivirals offers broad-spectrum intervention against different variants of concern. Host proteases, TMPRSS2 and CTSL/CTSB cleave the SARS-CoV-2 spike to play a crucial role in the two alternative pathways of viral entry and are characterized as promising pharmacological targets. Here, we identify compounds that show potent inhibition of these proteases and determine their complex structures with their respective targets. Furthermore, we show that applying inhibitors simultaneously that block both entry pathways has a synergistic antiviral effect. Notably, we devise a bispecific compound, 212-148, exhibiting the dual-inhibition ability of both TMPRSS2 and CTSL/CTSB, and demonstrate antiviral activity against various SARS-CoV-2 variants with different viral entry profiles. Our findings offer an alternative approach for the discovery of SARS-CoV-2 antivirals, as well as application for broad-spectrum treatment of viral pathogenic infections with similar entry pathways.

To predict the surface roughness in the grinding process, an acoustic emission device (AE) was incorporated into the grinding process to monitor the grinding state using AE signals. The variations in AE signal characteristic parameters and frequency spectrum with respect to grinding parameters, such as grinding depth ap, grinding wheel speed vs and feed speed vw were analyzed. The results show that as ap and vw increase, the effective values and ringing count values of the AE signal's characteristic parameters both increase. The main energy concentration spectrum of the AE signal is between 90 and 140 kHz, and the corresponding spectrum amplitude shows a gradual increasing trend. With the gradual increase of vs, the effective value of AE signal characteristic parameters gradually decreases, the ringing count value gradually increases, and the spectral amplitude corresponding to the frequency band shows a gradual decreasing trend. Further data analysis reveals the corresponding relationship between AE signal characteristic parameters and machining surface roughness, providing a sample for establishing a surface roughness prediction model. The multi-information fusion algorithm, based on a BP neural network, is used to reasonably fuse various characteristic parameters of the AE signal. And the multi-information fusion prediction model for grinding surface roughness based on AE signal was established. After experimental verification, this model can predict the roughness of the ground surface in actual production.

The precise recognition of entire classroom meta-actions is a crucial challenge for the tailored adaptive interpretation of student behavior, given the intricacy of these actions. This paper proposes a Dynamic Position Embedding-based Model for Student Classroom Complete Meta-Action Recognition (DPE-SAR) based on the Video Swin Transformer. The model utilizes a dynamic positional embedding technique to perform conditional positional encoding. Additionally, it incorporates a deep convolutional network to improve the parsing ability of the spatial structure of meta-actions. The full attention mechanism of ViT3D is used to extract the potential spatial features of actions and capture the global spatial–temporal information of meta-actions. The proposed model exhibits exceptional performance compared to baseline models in action recognition as observed in evaluations on public datasets and smart classroom meta-action recognition datasets. The experimental results confirm the superiority of the model in meta-action recognition.

The presence of highly developed micro-nano pores and poor pore connectivity constrains the development of shale oil. Given the rapid decline in oil production , enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technologies are necessary for shale oil development. The shale oil reservoirs in China are mainly continental and characterized by high heterogeneity, low overall maturity, and inferior crude oil quality. Therefore, it is more challenging to achieve a desirably high recovery factor. The Qingshankou Formation is a typical continental shale oil reservoir, with high clay content and well-developed bedding. This paper introduced high-precision non-destructive nuclear magnetic resonance technology to carry out a systematic and targeted study. The EOR performances and oil recovery factors related to different pore sizes were quantified to identify the most suitable method. The results show that surfactant, CH4, and CO2 can recover oil effectively in the first cycle. As the huff-and-puff process continues, the oil saturated in the shale gradually decreases, and the EOR performance of the surfactant and CH4 is considerably degraded. Meanwhile, CO2 can efficiently recover oil in small pores (2 is 38.22%, which is much higher than that of surfactant (29.82%) and CH4 (19.36%). CO2 is the most applicable medium of the three to enhance shale oil recovery in the Qingshankou Formation. Additionally, the injection pressure of surfactant increased the fastest in the injection process, showing a low flowability in nano-pores. Thus, in the actual shale oil formations, the swept volume of surfactant will be suppressed, and the actual EOR performance of the surfactant may be limited. The findings of this paper can provide theoretical support for the efficient development of continental shale oil reservoirs.

Abstract Background Catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) is an important indicator of measuring health inequality. Previous studies mainly focused on specific vulnerable populations rather than a wider range of vulnerable areas through panel data. Rural China is often associated with an underdeveloped economy and insufficient health resources. This study aims to update the information on the extent of and trends in the incidence and inequality of CHE among the households of rural China through longitudinal survey data. Methods Data were obtained from three waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS): 2013, 2015, and 2018. In total, 2,575 households were included in the analysis. CHE was defined as household health expenditures exceeding 40% of non-food expenditures. Inequality in CHE was measured using the concentration curve and concentration index. The contribution to CHE inequality was decomposed using the concentration index decomposition method. Results The incidence of CHE was 0.2341 (95% CI: 0.22, 0.25) in 2013, 0.2136 (95% CI: 0.20, 0.23) in 2015, and 0.2897 (95% CI: 0.27, 0.31) in 2018 in rural China. The concentration curve lay above the equality line, and the concentration index was negative: −0.1528 (95% CI: −0.1941, −0.1115) in 2013, −0.1010 (95% CI: −0.1442, −0. 0577) in 2015, and −0.0819 (95% CI: −0.1170, −0.0467) in 2018. Economic status, age, and chronic diseases were the main contributors to inequality in CHE. Conclusions The incidence of CHE in rural China displayed an upward trend from 2013 to 2018, although it was not continuous. Furthermore, a strong pro-low-economic inequality in CHE existed in rural China. Mainly economic status, age, and chronic diseases contributed to this pro-low-economic inequality. Health policies to allocate resources and services are needed to satisfy the needs of rural households and provide more accessible and affordable health services. More concern needs to be directed toward households with chronic diseases and older persons to reduce the incidence of CHE and promote health equality.

Mammary gland bioreactors are promising methods for recombinant protein production. Human neutrophil peptide 1 (HNP1) exhibits antibacterial and immune-modulating properties. This study aims to establish a method to generate goats secreting HNP1 using the mammary gland as bioreactors. HNP1 transgenic goats were generated by using CRISPR/Cas9 technology to knock-in (KI) the HNP1 sequence into exon 7 of the goat β-casein (CSN2) gene under the control of the CSN2 promoter. One-cell stage embryos were cytoplasmically injected with a mixture of Cas9 mRNA, sgRNA, and a homologous plasmid including the T2A-HNP1 sequences, followed by transfer to recipient goats. A total of 22 live offspring goats were delivered, and 21 of these goats (95.45%) exhibited targeted edits at the CSN2 locus, and 2 female goats (9.09%) demonstrated successful HNP1 integration. Western blot and ELISA analyses confirmed the presence of HNP1 protein at high levels in the milk of these HNP1-positive goats, with mean concentrations of 22.10 µg/mL and 0.0092 µg/mL during the initial 60 days of lactation. Furthermore, milk from these transgenic goats exhibited notable antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, demonstrating the functionality of the expressed HNP1 protein. In conclusion, we established an efficient method for developing new transgenic goat lines as a mammary gland bioreactor, and the bioactive HNP1 protein secreted by the transgenic goat has the potential to combat microbial resistance.

CO2 pre-injection fracturing is a promising technology for shale reservoirs development, with multiple advantages for improving the complexity of fractures, the production of crude oil, and the sequestration of CO2. Previous research mostly focused on the CO2 effect on macroscopic mechanical properties of shale. However, there are many phenomena closely related to shale micro mechanical behavior. Therefore, this study presents a systematic investigation into the effects of CO2 on both macro and micro mechanical properties, as well as pore-fracture structures during CO2 pre-injection fracturing in shale reservoirs. The results show that CO2 can significantly decrease the tensile strength, uniaxial compressive strength, and elastic modulus of shale. With the increasing CO2 treatment time, the macro mechanical properties of shale decrease gradually. The microscopic experiments show that this significant decrease may be due to two mechanisms. The first is the significant decrease in the micro-mechanical properties of shale. The results of indentation analysis show that the microscopic elastic modulus and hardness of shale decrease by 51.3% and 63.3% after CO2 treatment. The second is the changes of the original shale framework. Pore-fractures structure analysis showed that after CO2 treatment, a large number of dissolution pores are generated in the shale matrix. Meanwhile, there are propagation of original fractures and opening of structural weak planes, which lead to the form of new fractures. Under the action of these two mechanisms, the macro mechanical strength of shale is reduced significantly. Therefore, in the field application, proper soaking following CO2 injection could lead to a significant overall reduction in mechanical strength, potentially lowering formation breakdown pressure, easing the requirements for treatment equipment, and enhancing fracturing effects.

Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to search for key genes in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) through comprehensive bioinformatics analysis, thus providing some theoretical support for future diagnosis and treatment of AS and further research. Methods Gene expression profiles were collected from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/geo/ ) by searching for the term "ankylosing spondylitis". Ultimately, two microarray datasets (GSE73754 and GSE11886) were downloaded from the GEO database. A bioinformatic approach was used to screen differentially expressed genes and perform functional enrichment analysis to obtain biological functions and signalling pathways associated with the disease. Weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) was used to further obtain key genes. Immune infiltration analysis was performed using the CIBERSORT algorithm to conduct a correlation analysis of key genes with immune cells. The GWAS data of AS were analysed to identify the pathogenic regions of key genes in AS. Finally, potential therapeutic agents for AS were predicted using these key genes. Results A total of 7 potential biomarkers were identified: DYSF, BASP1, PYGL, SPI1, C5AR1, ANPEP and SORL1. ROC curves showed good prediction for each gene. T cell, CD4 naïve cell, and neutrophil levels were significantly higher in the disease group than in the paired normal group, and key gene expression was strongly correlated with immune cells. CMap results showed that the expression profiles of ibuprofen, forskolin, bongkrek-acid, and cimaterol showed the most significant negative correlation with the expression profiles of disease perturbations, suggesting that these drugs may play a role in AS treatment. Conclusion The potential biomarkers of AS screened in this study are closely related to the level of immune cell infiltration and play an important role in the immune microenvironment. This may provide help in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of AS and provide new ideas for further research.

Objectives Equity in health service utilisation is a central objective for health systems. Middle-aged and elderly patients with multiple chronic conditions (MCCs) are particularly vulnerable to healthcare inequity. This study aimed to update the information on the trends in the incidence and equity of outpatient health service utilisation (OHSU) and inpatient health service utilisation (IHSU) for middle-aged and elderly MCCs patients in China, identify socioeconomic determinants that may contribute to inequity, and suggest optimisation strategies to mitigate this disparity.Methods Panel data obtained from four waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) were used to determine the trends in OHSU and IHSU. The inequity in OHSU and IHSU was measured by the Concentration Index (CI) and Horizontal Inequity Index (HI), which is a valid measure of health service utilisation equity. The decomposition model of the CI was set up to explore the contribution of various determinants of overall equity.Results The annual rate of OHSU gradually decreased from 29.32% in 2011 to 27.27% in 2018. The HI remained positive and decreased from 0.0803 in 2011 to 0.0662 in 2018, indicating the existence of pro-rich inequity. The annual rate of IHSU gradually increased from 13.31% in 2011 to 19.89% in 2018. The HI remained positive and showed a declining trend from 0.2363 in 2011 to 0.0574 in 2018, evidencing pro-rich inequity; however, a trend towards the easing of inequity was observed.Conclusions Pro-rich inequity was present in both OHSU and IHSU among middle-aged and elderly MCCs patients in China. Economic status, area, education and age were the main contributors to pro-rich inequity. Concerted efforts are needed to allocate resources for mitigating health service utilisation inequity in middle-aged and elderly people with MCCs.

A phase unwrapping method based on spatial and channel attention network is proposed to retrieve true phases from interferograms with various levels of noise. First, we propose a network that is suitable for unwrapping wrapped phase images. This network utilizes Deeplabv3+ as the backbone, adopts a serial-parallel atrous spatial pyramid pooling module, implements multi-scale skip connections between the encoder-decoder models, and fuses a convolutional block attention module. Second, datasets with different noise levels are used to train the network employing an existing noise level evaluation system, and the trained networks effectively handle the phase unwrapping for interferograms. Finally, the interferograms are unwrapped by the networks with the same noise level as the interferograms. The experimental results of phase unwrapping for interferograms fully verify the performance of this method.

Quantum Dots (QDs) modified with branched Polyethylene Glycol-amine (6- or 8-arm PEG-amine) coupled with methoxy PEG (mPEG) hold great promise for in vivo biomedical applications due to a long half-life in blood and negligible toxicity. However, the potential risks regarding their concomitant prolonged co-incubation with cardiovascular and blood cells remains inconclusive. In the present study, the feasible, effective and convenient proliferating-restricted cell line models representing the circulatory system were established to investigate the cellular internalization followed by intracellular outcomes and resulting acute/sub-acute cytotoxicity of the 6-arm PEG-amine/mPEG QDs. We found a dose-, time- and cell type-dependent cellular uptake of the 6-arm PEG-amine/mPEG QDs, which was ten-fold lower compared to the traditional linear PEG-modified counterpart. The QDs entered cells via multiple endocytic pathways and were mostly preserved in Golgi apparatus for at least one week instead of degradation in lysosomes, resulting in a minimal acute cytotoxicity, which is much lower than other types of PEG-modified QDs previously reported. However, a sub-acute cytotoxicity of QDs were observed several days post exposure using the concentrations eliciting no-significant acute cytotoxic effects, which was associated with elevated ROS generation caused by QDs remained inside cells. Finally, a non-cytotoxic concentration of the QDs was identified at the sub-acute cytotoxic level. Our study provided important information for clinical translation of branched PEG-amine/mPEG QDs by elucidating the QDs-cell interactions and toxicity mechanism using the proliferation-restricted cell models representing circulatory system. What's more, we emphasized the indispensability of sub-acute cytotoxic effects in the whole biosafety evaluation process of nanomaterials like QDs.

BackgroundTranexamic acid (TXA) has previously been shown to be effective in reducing intraoperative blood loss (IBL) and transfusion requirements in spine surgery. A conventional TXA regimen is a simple preoperative or intraoperative administration. However, the hyperfibrinolysis caused by surgical trauma lasts at least 24 h, and a single dose of TXA cannot cover the whole process of hyperfibrinolysis. Moreover, its ability to control postoperative blood loss (PBL) may be insufficient. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the effects and safety of sequential perioperative intravenous TXA for reducing bleeding after posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF).MethodsPatients requiring PLIF were randomly divided into two groups. All patients were intravenously injected with 1 g of TXA 15 min before skin resection. Every day after the surgery, 200 ml saline was intravenously injected for 1–3 days in Group A, while Group B received 1 g of TXA instead of saline. The total blood loss (TBL), IBL, PBL, HCT, Hb, blood transfusion volume, inflammation-related indicators, and complications were recorded.ResultsTBL, PBL, and hidden blood loss (HBL) in Group B were significantly lower than those in Group A (P < 0.05). The maximum decreases in HCT and Hb in Group B were also significantly lower than those in Group A (P < 0.05), and the drainage removal time (DRT) was sooner in Group B than in Group A (P = 0.003). On the 3rd and 5th days after surgery, the level of CRP in Group B was significantly lower than that in Group A (P < 0.05). Similarly, IL-6 levels were significantly lower in Group B for the first 5 days postoperatively (P < 0.001). Sex, operation time, level of decompression, length of incision, and change in HCT were significant predictors of both TBL and HBL. TBL was also significantly associated with BMI and preoperative fibrinogen, while postoperative TXA was a significant predictor of HBL only.ConclusionIntravenous injection of 1 g of TXA 15 min before skin resection combined with continuous intravenous injection of 1 g of TXA 1 to 3 days after PLIF can reduce postoperative bleeding and shorten the time to drainage tube removal. In addition, it can also inhibit the postoperative inflammatory response.Clinical trial registrationChiCTR2200056210.

Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) is an important bast fiber crop, and a source of fiber to many industries. This crop is diploid (2n = 2x = 36) in nature, and belongs to Malvaceae family. Kenaf breeding is directed to develop the new cultivars that are better in fiber production, fiber quality, resistant to anthracnose, photo-insensitivity, resistant to salt and drought stresses, and so on. This review describes the various successes in kenaf breeding, and reports the future opportunities. The various classical and advanced breeding approaches have great potential to achieve the goals. However, the recent approaches in plant breeding and biotechnology could have more prospective to accelerate the kenaf breeding. These may include genomic selection, CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing system, and other omics-based approaches. We suggest that the integration of recent approaches with classical ones has vital importance in improving the efficiency, speed, and accuracy of kenaf breeding.

Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) is one of the most important crops, which is grown for natural fiber production. However, the deficiency of SSR markers limits the genetic improvement of kenaf. In this study, SSRs (simple sequence repeats) were identified from the reference genome and coding sequence (CDS) of Fuhong952, a sequenced variety of kenaf. SSR loci were mined using the Seiners 2.0 software and the characteristics of SSR loci were analyzed. A total of 301, 505 and 14, 269 SSRs with an overall density of 279.70 SSRs/Mb and 182.70 SSRs/Mb were identified from whole-genome and CDS, respectively. 12bp was the predominant repeat in the entire genome and CDS, trinucleotide repeats were the most abundant among both types of sequences. For different SSR repeat types, the SSR frequency decreased dramatically as repeat times increased. AT was the most frequent single motif across the entire genome, while AG was the most abundant motif in CDS. The homologous genes in kenaf were obtained from the 71 genes associated with photoperiodic flowering-time. As such, 115 primer pairs were designed and synthesized using these homologous genes in kenaf. The amplification of 108 pairs revealed stable and clear bands, and two pair of primers located in HcFCA and HcVIN3 were significantly associated with photoperiodic flowering-time using one-way ANOVA and regression analysis. The detailed results of the SSR markers in this study provides valuable information about the frequency distribution of SSRs in the whole genome and will expedite genomic research for improvement in kenaf.

The host genome may influence the composition of the intestinal microbiota, and the intestinal microbiota has a significant effect on muscle growth and development. In this study, we found that the deletion of the myostatin (MSTN) gene positively regulates the expression of the intestinal tight junction-related genes TJP1 and OCLN through the myosin light-chain kinase/myosin light chain pathway. The intestinal structure of MSTN−/− pigs differed from wild-type, including by the presence of a thicker muscularis and longer plicae. Together, these changes affect the structure of intestinal microbiota. Mice transplanted with the intestinal microbiota of MSTN−/− pigs had myofibers with larger cross-sectional areas and higher fast-twitch glycolytic muscle mass. Microbes responsible for the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were enriched in both the MSTN−/− pigs and recipient mice, and SCFAs levels were elevated in the colon contents. We also demonstrated that valeric acid stimulates type IIb myofiber growth by activating the Akt/mTOR pathway via G protein-coupled receptor 43 and ameliorates dexamethasone-induced muscle atrophy. This is the first study to identify the MSTN gene-gut microbiota-SCFA axis and its regulatory role in fast-twitch glycolytic muscle growth.

BackgroundThe time spent with parents is a crucial factor in the growth of children, and children's well-being is an important indicator of their mental health.MethodsTo promote the children's well-being, this study, which is relying on the data from the 2017 China Time Use Survey (CTUS), explores the relationship between parental time and children's well-being and specific influencing factors.ResultsThe more time parents spent with children, the higher their children's well-being will be (coefficient 0.1020, p < 0.01). The life and leisure time parents spent with children promoted children's well-being (coefficient 0.1020, p < 0.01). The life and leisure time the mother spent with children (coefficient 0.1030, p < 0.05) the life and leisure time (coefficient 0.1790, p < 0.05) and the educational interactions time the father spent with children (coefficient 0.3630, p < 0.10) positively affected children's well-being. The influence of the time parents spent with children on children's well-being was heterogeneous based on their children's academic performance.ConclusionsParental accompaniment is an important determinant of children's well-being. Family education, guidance services, and mental health services should be strengthened, and it is necessary to improve the time spent with children and to pay attention to individual differences in children.

To comprehensively utilize industrial by-products of gypsum while reducing the consumption of natural river sand, this experiment was conducted to prepare gypsum-based sandless self-leveling (PGSL) materials by using phosphorus-building gypsum (PBG) and portland cement (PC) as gelling raw materials with the addition of polycarboxylate superplasticizer (PCE), cellulose ethers (CE), and retarders. However, employing phosphogypsum as the source material results in a significant 30 min fluidity loss in the gypsum-based self-leveling system. Therefore, to enhance the flow characteristics of gypsum self-leveling, sodium gluconate was chosen for usage in this research. The impact of single and compound mixing of protein-based retarder (PR) and sodium gluconate (SG) on gypsum-based sandless self-leveling materials was evaluated in terms of heat of hydration analysis, pore structure, fluidity, strength, and setting time. According to the experimental findings, it was possible to considerably decrease the fluidity loss of gypsum-based sandless self-leveling materials, postpone the setting time, boost strength, and enhance pore structure when combined with 0.4% SG and 0.03% PR.

The pore structure characteristics and thermal conductivity of foamed concrete (FC) reinforced with glass fibers (GF), polyvinyl alcohol fibers (PVAF) and polypropylene fibers (PPF) were investigated experimentally in this article. Firstly, GF, PVAF or PPF with different mass fractions (0%, 1%, 1.5% and 2%) were added to the Portland cement, fly ash and plant protein foaming agent to prepare the FC. Then, SEM tests, dry density tests, porosity tests, and thermal conductivity tests were carried out on FRFC. Later, the adhesion of GF, PVAF and FFF with different mass fractions to the cementitious base was investigated by SEM images of FRFC. The pore size distribution, shape factor and porosity of FRFC were analyzed using Photoshop software and Image Pro Plus (IPP) software. Finally, the effects of different mass fractions and lengths of three types of fibers on the thermal conductivity of FRFC were discussed. The results indicated that proper fiber mass fraction can play a role of refining small pores and separating large pores, improving the structural compactness, reducing the pore collapse phenomenon and optimizing the pore structure of FRFC. The three types of fibers can promote the optimization of cellular roundness and increase the proportion of pores with diameters below 400 μm. The FC with larger porosity had smaller dry density. As the fiber mass fraction increased, the thermal conductivity performed a phenomenon of first decrease and then increase. The three types of fibers with 1% mass fraction achieved relatively low thermal conductivity. Compared with the FC without fibers, the thermal conductivities of GF reinforced FC, PVAF reinforced FC and PPF reinforced FC with 1% mass fraction were decreased by 20.73%, 18.23% and 7.00%, respectively.

BackgroundDepression in chronic disease patients was an important public health problem. However, limited work has been done on how to alleviate the depression of chronic disease patients. This paper attempted to explore the alleviating effect of health insurance and health service quality.MethodsA total of 11,500 middle-aged and elderly people were drawn from four waves (2011, 2013, 2015, and 2018) of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). We analyzed the effect of chronic disease on depression in middle-aged and elderly people in China, and explored the mechanism of action from health insurance and health service quality.ResultsAfter adjusting for sociodemographic factors, any chronic disease (coefficient 1.471, p < 0.01) and multiple chronic diseases (coefficient 1.733, p < 0.01) could significantly increase the depression score. Any chronic disease increased the depression score (165.3 and 147.4% in non-health insurance group and health insurance group, respectively), the multiple chronic diseases increased the depression score (190.6 and 173.5% in non-health insurance group and health insurance group, respectively). Any chronic disease increased the depression score (161.3 and 139.5% in lower health service quality group and higher health service quality group, respectively), the multiple chronic diseases increased the depression score (228.4 and 162.9% in lower health service quality group and higher health service quality group, respectively). And similar results were obtained after using depression status instead of depression score.ConclusionsChronic disease and multiple chronic diseases were important determinants of depression in middle-aged and elderly people. Health insurance and health service quality were the key factors in relieving the depression of chronic disease patients. Several strategies were urgently needed: paying attention to the mental health of chronic disease patients, increasing the participation rate of health insurance, further improving the quality of health service, and alleviating the psychological harm caused by chronic disease.

Abstract Background In mammals, maternal gene products decay and zygotic genome activation (ZGA) during maternal to zygotic transition (MZT) is critical for the early embryogenesis. Y-box binding protein YBX1 plays vital roles in RNA stabilization and transcriptional regulation, but its roles remain to be elucidated during pre-implantation development. Methods In the present study, we re-analyzed transcriptional level of YBX1 in mice, human, bovine, and goat embryos using public RNA-seq datasets. We further performed siRNA microinjection to knock down the expression of YBX1, and RNA sequencing of the 8-cell stage embryos in the control and YBX1 knockdown group. To reveal the regulation mechanisms of YBX1, we conducted differentially expression analysis, alternative splicing (AS) analysis, enrichment analysis, and 5-EU staining using DESeq2, rMATs, clusterProfiler, and immunofluorescence technique, respectively. Results The expression of YBX1 was increased during MZT in goat, bovine, human, and mice, but significantly decreased in YBX1 knockdown embryos compared with the controls, suggesting successfully knockdown of YBX1. The percentage of blastocyst was decreased, while embryos blocked at the 2- and 4-cell stage were increased in YBX1 knockdown embryos compared to the controls. Using RNA-seq, we identified 1623 up-regulated and 3531 down-regulated genes in the 8-cell stage YBX1 knockdown embryos. Of note, the down-regulated genes were enriched in regulation of RNA/mRNA stability and spliceosome, suggesting that YBX1 might medicate RNA stability and AS. To this end, we identified 3284 differential AS events and 1322 differentially expressed maternal mRNAs at the 8-cell stage YBX1 knockdown embryos. Meanwhile, the splicing factors and mRNA decay-related genes showed aberrant expression, and the transcriptional activity during ZGA in goat and mice was compromised when YBX1 was knocked down. Conclusion YBX1 serves an important role in maternal mRNA decay, alternative splicing, and the transcriptional activity required for early embryogenesis, which will broaden the current understanding of YBX1 functions during the stochastic reprogramming events.

Despite having a high early mechanical strength and using sulfoaluminate cement as the primary cementitious material, self-compacting repair mortar (SCRM) suffers from rapid hydration rates leading to construction time constraints. This study examined how several forms of calcium sulfate, including hemihydrate gypsum, anhydrite, and dihydrate gypsum, affected SCRM’s workability, hydration process, and microstructure. The outcomes demonstrated that adding hemihydrate gypsum sped up SCRM’s early hydration rate and boosted its expansion rate. For a cement with 8% hemihydrate gypsum, 6 h after adding the water, the flexural strength and compressive strength increased by 39.02% and 34.08%, respectively. The hydration rate of SCRM can be efficiently delayed by dihydrate gypsum, although the result is subpar. The material exhibited the lowest fluidity loss in 20 min, the setting time was extended, and the 28-day flexural and compressive strengths were raised by 26.56% and 28.08%, respectively, after adding 8 percent anhydrite.

In this study, we aimed to characterize the anti-type 2 diabetes (T2D) effects of Gastrodia elata Blume extract (GEBE) and determine whether these are mediated through modification of the gut microbiota and bile acids. Mice were fed a high-fat diet (HFD), with or without GEBE, and we found that GEBE significantly ameliorated the HFD-induced hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and inflammation by upregulating glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) and inhibiting the toll-like receptor 4-nuclear factor kappa-B signaling pathway in white adipose tissue (WAT). In addition, we found that GEBE increased the abundance of Faecalibaculum and Lactobacillus, and altered the serum bile acid concentrations, with a significant increase in deoxycholic acid. The administration of combined antibiotics to mice to eliminate their intestinal microbiota caused a loss of the protective effects of GEBE. Taken together, these findings suggest that GEBE ameliorates T2D by increasing GLUT4 expression in WAT, remodeling the gut microbiota, and modifying serum bile acid concentrations.

Multimodal neuroimaging plays an important role in neuroscience research. Integrated noninvasive neuroimaging modalities, such as magnetoencephalography (MEG), electroencephalography (EEG) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), allow neural activity and related physiological processes in the brain to be precisely and comprehensively depicted, providing an effective and advanced platform to study brain function. Noncryogenic optically pumped magnetometer (OPM) MEG has high signal power due to its on-scalp sensor layout and enables more flexible configurations than traditional commercial superconducting MEG. Here, we integrate OPM-MEG with EEG and fNIRS to develop a multimodal neuroimaging system that can simultaneously measure brain electrophysiology and hemodynamics. We conducted a series of experiments to demonstrate the feasibility and robustness of our MEG-EEG-fNIRS acquisition system. The complementary neural and physiological signals simultaneously collected by our multimodal imaging system provide opportunities for a wide range of potential applications in neurovascular coupling, wearable neuroimaging, hyperscanning and brain-computer interfaces.

Abstract Dielectric ceramic capacitors, with the advantages of high power density, fast charge-discharge capability, excellent fatigue endurance, and good high temperature stability, have been acknowledged to be promising candidates for solid-state pulse power systems. This review investigates the energy storage performances of linear dielectric, relaxor ferroelectric, and antiferroelectric from the viewpoint of chemical modification, macro/microstructural design, and electrical property optimization. Research progress of ceramic bulks and films for Pb-based and/or Pb-free systems is summarized. Finally, we propose the perspectives on the development of energy storage ceramics for pulse power capacitors in the future.

For dielectric energy storage materials, high polarization and high breakdown strengths are a long-standing challenge. A modulating crystalline/amorphous phase structure strategy is proposed by Mn-doping and annealing temperature to enhance the energy storage performance of pure BaTiO3 (BT) films. In this study, lead-free Mn-doped BT films were prepared on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates via the sol-gel method, and the effects of the crystalline/amorphous phase ratio on polarization and electric properties were analyzed. A small amount of Mn-doping in BT could reduce the annealing temperature and enhance polarization with an Mn content of 8%. In addition, the energy storage properties of BT-8%Mn films achieve the best energy storage performance in terms of energy density and efficiency of 72.4 J/cm3 and 88.5% by changing the annealing temperature to 640 °C. BT-8%Mn energy storage films also possess good stability over a wide temperature range of 20 °C–200 °C, which demonstrates that crystalline/amorphous engineering is a simple and effective way to enhance energy storage applications of dielectric films.

BackgroundCue-induced craving is widely considered to be the most important risk factor for relapse during abstinence from methamphetamine (Meth). There is limited research regarding electroencephalography (EEG) microstates of Meth-dependent patients under exposure to drug-related cues. Our objective was to investigate whether EEG microstate temporal characteristics could capture neural correlates of cue-induced Meth craving in virtual reality (VR) environments.MethodsEEG recordings of 35 Meth-dependent patients and 30 healthy controls (HCs) were collected during eyes-open state and cue-induced state, respectively. Group differences and condition differences in temporal parameters of four microstate classes were compared.ResultsThe results demonstrated the greater presence of microstate B in both Meth-dependent patients and HCs during the cue-induced condition, compared to resting state. In addition, for Meth-dependent patients, microstate C occurred significantly less frequently, along with a tendency of increased occurrence for class D during the cue-induced condition, compared to resting state. However, the change direction of class C and class D in HCs was completely opposite to that of Meth-dependent patients. The cue-induced condition also elicited different changes in transition probability between Meth-dependent patients and HCs.ConclusionThis study explored the features of EEG microstates in Meth-dependent patients during the cue-induced condition, which can improve our understanding of Meth addiction and contribute to the development of effective assessments and intervention tools.

Abstract Background Both systemic-pulmonary shunt and arterial duct stent could be the palliation of duct-dependent pulmonary circulation. We aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of the two approaches. Methods The PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases were searched through December 2019 for studies comparing stent implantation and surgical shunt in duct-dependent pulmonary circulation. The baseline characteristics included ventricle physiology and cardiac anomaly. The main outcomes were hospital stay and total mortality. Additional outcomes included procedural complications, intensive care unit (ICU) stay, pulmonary artery growth at follow-up, and other indexes. A random- or fixed-effects model was used to summarize the estimates of the mean difference (MD)/risk ratio (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Stacking of bulk solids in terminals, ships, trains, and other bulk solids storage yards is always challenging, considering the requirements of optimal utilization of storage areas. In this study, stacking shapes of a variety of bulk solids with different particle sizes were tested, and the curved shapes of the stockpiles were extracted to establish the actual three-dimensional models of the bulk solids accordingly. The three-dimensional curved stockpiles were used to design the bulk solids stacking strategy where the bulk stacking locations, the stacking volume, and the stacking flatness were optimized. A modified golden section method with a self-influenced factor was developed to improve the calculation efficiency of the stacking algorithm for bulk solids stacking flatness. Furthermore, the bulk solids stacking strategy and algorithm were verified by experiments. The results showed that the curved three-dimensional models were very close to the actual shapes of the bulk solids stockpiles, while the improved golden section method was more accurate and efficient than the traditional golden section method in determining the optimal values of the stacking volumes in terms of flatness. For the different bulk solids tested, the experiment results showed that good flat stacking can be achieved by using the developed stacking strategy.

Zearalenone (ZEA), also known as F-2 toxin, is a mycotoxin. Despite numerous reports of ZEA impairing livestock production performance and fertility, little information is available, including information about the mechanism underlying damage to cell metal ion transport. Copper, which is essential for cell survival as a metal ion, can consist of a variety of enzymes that facilitate abundant metabolic processes. However, the accumulation of copper in cells can have toxic effects. Here, we intended to determine whether ZEA could impair goat granulosa cells (GCs) and alter the cellular copper concentration. GCs were divided into a negative control (NC) group (cells cultured with 0.1% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) for 8 h) and a ZEA group (cells cultured with 200 μmol/L ZEA diluted in DMSO for 8 h). The results showed that ZEA could inhibit GC proliferation and impair cell viability. GCs showed significant increases in the apoptosis rate and oxidative stress levels, while their ability to synthesize estrogen decreased. In addition, RNA-seq results showed dramatic changes in the expression of copper transport-related genes. The expression levels of ATPase copper transporting alpha (ATP7A) and ATPase copper transporting beta (ATP7B) were significantly downregulated (p < 0.01), while the expression of solute carrier family 31 member 1 (SLC31A1) was not modified in the ZEA group compared with the NC group. In accordance with these trends, the copper concentration increased significantly in the ZEA group (p < 0.01). In summary, our results show that ZEA can negatively affect GCs and cause copper accumulation. This finding may provide a prospective line of research on the relationship between ZEA and the transport of copper ions in GCs.

Objective: We aimed to compare non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants (NOACs) with a traditional antithrombotic such as vitamin K antagonist (VKA) and antiplatelet agents in patients after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).Methods: We conducted a search in PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library until November 2021 for studies involving comparisons of any type of NOACs, including dabigatran, apixaban, rivaroxaban, and edoxaban, with VKA or antiplatelet agents after TAVR. A comparison of NOACs versus VKA was performed in patients with an indication for oral anticoagulation. In addition, we compared NOACs versus antiplatelet in patients without such indication. We calculated the hazard ratios with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to determine long-term outcomes. The primary outcome was a combined endpoint consisting of all-cause mortality, stroke, major bleeding, or any related clinical adverse events. Secondary outcomes were all-cause mortality, major bleeding, and stroke, respectively.Results: A total of 10 studies including 10,563 patients after TAVR were included in this meta-analysis. There were no significant differences in any of the long-term outcomes between the NOAC and VKA groups. Although there were no significant differences in the combined endpoint, major bleeding, or stroke, a significant difference was observed in the all-cause mortality (HR 1.74, 95% CI 1.25–2.43, p = 0.001) between the NOAC and antiplatelet groups.Conclusion: For patients with an indication for oral anticoagulation after TAVR, NOACs seem to be associated with noninferior outcomes compared with VKA therapy. However, for patients without an indication for oral anticoagulation, NOACs appear to be associated with a higher risk of all-cause death as compared with antiplatelet treatment.Systematic Review Registration:https://clinicaltrials.gov/, identifier CRD42020155122.

Few fishes have evolved elevated body temperatures compared with ambient temperatures, and only in opah (Lampris spp) is the entire body affected. To understand the molecular basis of endothermy, we analyzed the opah genome and identified 23 genes with convergent amino acid substitutions across fish, birds, and mammals, including slc8b1, which encodes the mitochondrial Na+/Ca2+ exchanger and is essential for heart function and metabolic heat production. Among endothermic fishes, 44 convergent genes with suggestive metabolic functions were identified, such as glrx3, encoding a crucial protein for hemoglobin maturation. Numerous genes involved in the production and retention of metabolic heat were also found to be under positive selection. Analyses of opah's unique inner-heat-producing pectoral muscle layer (PMI), an evolutionary key innovation, revealed that many proteins were co-opted from dorsal swimming muscles for thermogenesis and oxidative phosphorylation. Thus, the opah genome provides valuable resources and opportunities to uncover the genetic basis of thermal adaptations in fish. Abstract Background Treatments for perimembranous ventricular septal defects (pmVSD) mainly include conventional surgical repair (CSR), transcatheter device closure (TDC), and perventricular device closure (PDC). We aimed to perform a network meta-analysis to compare the three approaches in patients with pmVSD. Methods We searched for comparative studies on device closure and conventional repair for pmVSD to April 2020. A network meta-analysis was performed under the frequentist frame with risk ratio and 95% confidence interval. The main outcome was the procedural success rate. Additional outcomes were postoperative complications, including residual shunt, intra-cardiac conduction block, valvular insufficiency, incision infection, and pericardial effusion. Results Twenty-four studies of 8113 patients were included in the comparisons. The pooled estimates of success rate favored the CSR compared with the PDC. No significant differences of success rate were found in the TDC versus CSR and the PDC versus TDC. The pooled estimates of incidences of the residual shunt, new tricuspid regurgitation, incision infection, and pericardial effusion favored the PDC compared with the CSR. There were no significant differences between the PDC and TDC approaches in all outcomes except new aortic regurgitation. Conclusion The PDC technique not only reduces the risk of significant complications compared with the CSR, but also produces not inferior results compared with the TDC in selected pmVSD patients. Abstract (Ba0.3Sr0.7)x(Bi0.5Na0.5)1-x TiO3 (BSxBNT, x = 0.3–V0.8) ceramics were prepared to investigate their structure, dielectric and ferroelectric properties. BSxBNT ceramics possess pure perovskite structure accompanied from a tetragonal symmetry to pseudo-cubic one with the increase of x value, being confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman results. The T m corresponding to a temperature in the vicinity of maximum dielectric constant gradually decreases from 110 °C (x = 0.3) to -45 °C (x = 0.8), across T m = 36 °C (x = 0.5) with a maximum dielectric constant (ɛr = 5920 @1 kHz) around room temperature. The saturated polarization P s gradually while the remnant polarization Pr sharply decreases with the increase of x value, making the P-E hysteresis loop of BSxBNT ceramics goes slim. A maximum difference between P s and P r (P s-P r) is obtained for BSxBNT ceramics with x = 0.5, at which a high recoverable energy density (W rec = 1.04 J/cm3) is achieved under an applied electric field of 100 kV/cm with an efficiency of η = 77%. Meanwhile, the varied temperature P-E loops, fatigue measurements, and electric breakdown characteristics for the sample with x = 0.5 indicate that it is promising for pulsed power energy storage capacitor candidate materials.

Abstract Background Iatrogenic aortic stenosis is a serious complication and potentially fatal due to erosion of the aortic wall. Timely management is necessary to prevent complications. Case presentation A 2-year-old boy underwent surgery to remove part of an Amplatzer occluder after patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) device embolization in the thoracic aorta. He exhibited moderate to severe obstruction with erosion of the intimal layer of the aorta caused by the device, part of which was retrieved surgically with restructuring of the thoracic aorta segment and occluder remnant. The patient’s postoperative course was uneventful. Conclusions When possible, retrieving only part of an embolized device can be advocated because it reduces the risk of aortic and pulmonary artery damage.

The N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA modification is an evolutionarily conserved epitranscriptomic mechanism that impacts several cellular processes. Here the authors present a structure-function analysis of the ZCCHC4, 28S RNA-specific m6A methyltransferase, shedding light on its regulation and mechanisms that ensure substrate specificity.

Shale fracturing evaluation is of great significance to the development of shale oil and gas resources, but the commonly used shale evaluation methods (e.g., the method using the brittleness index based on mineral composition or elastic parameters) have certain limitations. Fractures and beddings affecting fracturing are not considered in these methods. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new method to evaluate fracturing more comprehensively. The samples used in this research were taken from four typical continental shale basins of China, namely the Bohai Bay Basin, the Ordos Basin, the Songliao Basin, and the Junggar Basin. From a microscopic point of view, a three-parameter evaluation method involving multi-dimensional factors has been developed based on the nanoindentation method. Then, the fracturing coefficient K2 is obtained by combining the ratio β of the fracture indentation to the total indentation and the uneven coefficient m. After that, the fracability coefficient K3 is the ratio of the elastic modulus parallel to bedding to that perpendicular to bedding. Finally, the correlation between fracability coefficients K1, K2, and K3 is used to evaluate the overall fracturing performance of shale. The results of this evaluation method are in good agreement with the actual fracturing performance. It can be concluded that this method is highly reliable and practical and well worthy of promoted applications.

The present study investigates whether paraquat (PQ) regulates polarization of alveolar macrophages through glycolysis and promotes the occurrence of acute lung injury in rats. In vivo, the PQ intraperitoneal injection was used to construct a model of acute lung injury in rats. In vitro, the study measured the effect of different concentrations of PQ on the viability of the alveolar macrophages, and explored the polarization and glycolysis metabolism of alveolar macrophages at different time points after PQ intervention. Compared with the normal control (NC) group, the lung pathological damage in rats increased gradually after PQ poisoning, reaching a significant degree at 48 h after poisoning. The PQ-poisoned rat serum showed increased expressions of interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF-α), and M1 macrophage marker, iNOS, while the expression of interleukin-10 (IL-10) and M2 macrophage marker, Arg1, decreased. The toxic effect of PQ on alveolar macrophages was dose- and time-dependent. Compared with the NC group, IL-6 and TNF-α in the cell supernatant gradually increased after PQ intervention, while the IL-10 content gradually decreased. The PQ intervention in alveolar macrophages increased the expression of intracellular glycolysis rate-limiting enzyme pyruvate kinase isozymes M1/M2 (PKM1/M2), lactate, lactate/pyruvate ratio, and the polarization of alveolar macrophage towards M1. Inhibition of cellular glycolysis significantly reduced the PQ-induced alveolar macrophage polarization to M1 type. Thus, PQ induced increased polarization of lung macrophages toward M1 and decreased polarization toward M2, promoting acute lung injury. Therefore, it can be concluded that PQ regulates the polarization of alveolar macrophages through glycolysis.

Background: Previous research suggested that Chinese Medicine (CM) Formula Huashibaidu granule might shorten the disease course in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. This research aimed to investigate the early treatment effect of Huashibaidu granule in well-managed patients with mild COVID-19.Methods: An unblinded cluster-randomized clinical trial was conducted at the Dongxihu FangCang hospital. Two cabins were randomly allocated to a CM or control group, with 204 mild COVID-19 participants in each cabin. All participants received conventional treatment over a 7 day period, while the ones in CM group were additionally given Huashibaidu granule 10 g twice daily. Participants were followed up to their clinical endpoint. The primary outcome was worsening symptoms before the clinical endpoint. The secondary outcomes were cure and discharge before the clinical endpoint and alleviation of composite symptoms after the 7 days of treatment.Results: All 408 participants were followed up to their clinical endpoint and included in statistical analysis. Baseline characteristics were comparable between the two groups (P > 0.05). The number of worsening patients in the CM group was 5 (2.5%), and that in the control group was 16 (7.8%) with a significant difference between groups (P = 0.014). Eight foreseeable mild adverse events occurred without statistical difference between groups (P = 0.151).Conclusion: Seven days of early treatment with Huashibaidu granule reduced the likelihood of worsening symptoms in patients with mild COVID-19. Our study supports Huashibaidu granule as an active option for early treatment of mild COVID-19 in similar well-managed medical environments.Clinical Trial Registration:www.chictr.org.cn/showproj.aspx?proj=49408, identifier: ChiCTR2000029763.

This paper deals with the guidance problem of close approaching small celestial bodies while autonomously navigating with an optical camera. A combination of a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based guidance method and a “Stop-and-Go” (SaG) strategy is here proposed to increase the mission adaptability. Firstly, a robust guidance strategy optimizing fuel consumption and angle-only navigation (AON) observability is trained by DRL. Secondly, the SAG strategy is designed to introduce the mission adaptability and further improve the AON observability. Thirdly, a good match between the SAG strategy and the DRL-based robust guidance is demonstrated. The proposed method was tested in a typical R-bar approaching scenario. Then, the mission adaptability with an onboard application was successfully verified, investigating the policy performance with SAG.

The authors of this paper propose a robust star identification algorithm for a ‘Lost-In-Space’-mode star tracker for lost-cost CubeSat missions. A two-step identification framework and an embedded validation mechanism were designed to accelerate the process. In the first step, a masked distance map is designed to provide a shortlist of stars, and the embedded fast validation process enables the direct output of validated stars before the second step. In the second step, local similarity is utilized to select a set of stars from those shortlisted, and the final validation procedure rejects all unsatisfactory stars. This algorithm can provide reliable and robust recognition even when the captured star images include severe star positioning errors, missing stars and false stars. The proposed algorithm was verified by a simulation study under various conditions. As low-cost star sensors face harsh and unknown environments during deep space CubeSat missions such as asteroid exploration, the proposed algorithm with high robustness will provide an important function.

Based on finite-time thermodynamics, an irreversible high-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell (HT-PEMFC) model is developed, and the mathematical expressions of exergy efficiency, exergy destruction index (EDI), and exergy sustainability indicators (ESI) of HT-PEMFC are derived. According to HT-PEMFC model, the influences of thermodynamic irreversibility on exergy sustainability of HT-PEMFC are researched under different operating parameters that include operating temperatures, inlet pressure, and current density. The results show that the higher operating temperature and inlet pressure of HT-PEMFCs is beneficial to performance improvement. In addition, the single cell performance gradually decreases with increasing current density due to the presence of the irreversibility of HT-PEMFC.

In order to improve the output performance of high-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells (HT-PEMFC), a finite time thermodynamic (FTT) model for HT-PEMFC was established. Several finite time thermodynamic indexes including power density, thermodynamic efficiency, exergy efficiency, exergetic performance efficient (EPC), entropy production rate and ecological coefficient of performance (ECOP) were derived. The energetic performance, exergetic performance and ecological performance of the HT-PEMFC were analyzed under different parameters. Results showed that operating temperature, doping level and thickness of membrane had a significant effect on the performance of HT-PEMFC and the power density increased by 58%, 31.1% and 44.9%, respectively. When the doping level reached 8, the output performance of HT-PEMFC wa optimal. The operating pressure and relative humidity had little influence on the HT-PEMFC and the power density increased by 8.7%% and 17.6%, respectively.

Conducting a wrinkling analysis for a membrane structure of complex boundary conditions is quite difficult. This paper develops a numerical calculation method for completing a wrinkling analysis of a square membrane structure and a trapezoidal membrane structure with static corner forces. Furthermore, an experimental system for measuring the wrinkle is designed and established to verify the correctness of the method. The difference between simulation analysis results and experimental results is quite small for small corner forces, which means the method used for the wrinkling analysis under small loads is effective.
