Machine learning (ML) models often require large volumes of data to learn a given task. However, access and existence of training data can be difficult to acquire due to privacy laws and availability. A solution is to generate synthetic data that represents the real data. In the maritime environment, the ability to generate realistic vessel positional data is important for the development of ML models in ocean areas with scarce amounts of data, such as the Arctic, or for generating an abundance of anomalous or unique events needed for training detection models. This research explores the use of conditional generative adversarial networks (CGAN) to generate vessel displacement tracks over a 24-hour period in a constraint-free environment. The model is trained using Automatic Identification System (AIS) data that contains vessel tracking information. The results show that the CGAN is able to generate vessel displacement tracks for two different vessel types, cargo ships and pleasure crafts, for three months of the year (May, July, and September). To evaluate the usability of the generated data and robustness of the CGAN model, three ML vessel classification models using displacement track data are developed using generated data and tested with real data.

Computer Science - Machine Learning - Abstract
Automatic Identification System (AIS) messages are useful for tracking vessel activity across oceans worldwide using radio links and satellite transceivers. Such data plays a significant role in tracking vessel activity and mapping mobility patterns such as those found in fishing. Accordingly, this paper proposes a geometric-driven semi-supervised approach for fishing activity detection from AIS data. Through the proposed methodology we show how to explore the information included in the messages to extract features describing the geometry of the vessel route. To this end, we leverage the unsupervised nature of cluster analysis to label the trajectory geometry highlighting the changes in the vessel's moving pattern which tends to indicate fishing activity. The labels obtained by the proposed unsupervised approach are used to detect fishing activities, which we approach as a time-series classification task. In this context, we propose a solution using recurrent neural networks on AIS data streams with roughly 87% of the overall $F$-score on the whole trajectories of 50 different unseen fishing vessels. Such results are accompanied by a broad benchmark study assessing the performance of different Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) architectures. In conclusion, this work contributes by proposing a thorough process that includes data preparation, labeling, data modeling, and model validation.

Nursing ,RT1-120 - Abstract
Introduction: Adolescents face significant challenges in smoking cessation due to a lack of knowledge and low motivation in accessing information, methods, and management of quitting smoking. In this context, the role of peer educators and counselors, who are part of the adolescents' immediate environment, is crucial as it greatly influences their knowledge and attitudes toward quitting smoking. Objectives: This study aims to determine the effect of peer educators and counselors on adolescents' knowledge and attitudes towards smoking cessation. Methods: A quantitative pre-experimental design was employed using a one-group pre-test post-test approach. The research was conducted at a boarding school in Jambi, with a total sampling technique involving 89 male adolescent smokers aged 15-18 years. Bivariate analysis was performed using the non-parametric Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a significance level of 5% (0.05), and multivariate analysis was conducted using ordinal regression to assess the influence of confounding factors (age, economic status, psychological state, peers, and family) on adolescents' knowledge and attitudes towards smoking cessation. Results: The results indicated significant differences in adolescents' knowledge and attitudes towards smoking cessation before and after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The confounding factors of age, economic status, and family had the most significant influence on adolescents' knowledge, while age, economic status, and peers had the most significant influence on adolescents' attitudes towards smoking cessation. Conclusions: Peer educators and counselors are effective in supporting adolescent efforts to quit smoking. As role models and health advocates, they help adolescents shift their focus away from smoking and increase their curiosity about smoking cessation through continuous counseling and the Upaya Berhenti Merokok (UBM) program, utilizing information media to enhance adolescent knowledge.

The research was carried out at Al-Hanadi Research Station - Lattakia Agricultural Scientific Research Center, during spring season 2020 .To experience the effect of different potassium humate levels 500,1000,1500 ppm as a foliar spray on potato leaves variety Spunta , at 40 and 80% of field capacity humidity . The research involved four treatments with 3 replicates at each irrigation level. A Completely Randomized design was used. Plants were sprayed with potassium humate HA three times, with an interval of ten days after 35 days of planting. The results showed that water stress caused an increase in total soluble sugars, proline content and catalase activity in Spunta potato leaves, but total chlorophyll content was decreased. Potassium humate treatments improved biochemical parameters at 40% of field capacity. Potassium humate 1000 ppm treatment increased significantly total chlorophyll content 0.142 mmol/mg, and total soluble sugars 1.67mg/g in Spunta leaves ,while 1500 ppm treatment increased significantly proline content 45.65 ppm and catalase activity 0.04 mg/g at the same level 40% . Also, at 80% of field capacity, potassium humate 1000 ppm increased the total chlorophyll content 0.140 mmol/mg and proline content in potato leaves 11.63 ppm. Thus, potassium humate can be applied at a concentration 1000 and 1500 ppm to enhance the efficiency of potato plant Spunta tolerance under water shortage conditions.

Machine Learning (ML) is widely used to automatically extract meaningful information from Electronic Health Records (EHR) to support operational, clinical, and financial decision-making. However, ML models require a large number of annotated examples to provide satisfactory results, which is not possible in most healthcare scenarios due to the high cost of clinician-labeled data. Active Learning (AL) is a process of selecting the most informative instances to be labeled by an expert to further train a supervised algorithm. We demonstrate the effectiveness of AL in multi-label text classification in the clinical domain. In this context, we apply a set of well-known AL methods to help automatically assign ICD-9 codes on the MIMIC-III dataset. Our results show that the selection of informative instances provides satisfactory classification with a significantly reduced training set (8.3\% of the total instances). We conclude that AL methods can significantly reduce the manual annotation cost while preserving model performance., Comment: It was accepted in the ACM CHIL 2021 workshop track

The syntheses, coordination chemistry, and Mössbauer spectroscopy of hepta-iron(III) complexes using derivatised salicylaldoxime ligands from two categories; namely, ‘single-headed’ (H2L) and ‘double-headed’ (H4L) salicylaldoximes are described. All compounds presented here share a [Fe3-µ3-O] core in which the iron(III) ions are µ3-hydroxo-bridged in the complex C1 and µ3-oxo-bridged in C2 and C3. Each compound consists of 2 × [Fe3-µ3-O] triads that are linked via a central [Fe(µ2-OH)6]3− ion. In addition to the charge balance and microanalytical evidence, Mössbauer measurements support the fact that the triads in C1 are µ3-OH bridged and are µ3-O bridged in C2 and C3.

In this study, the sites of Beit Aana, Al-Qutailbiya, Quorfase and Al-Waha Spring were characterized by high levels of leaching whereas the highest concentrations of ammonium leaching were measured in December 2019 and March 2020, ranging between 5.74 and 5.81 mg/L. However, the lowest concentration (0.97 mg/L) was recorded in February 2020 in the sites of Bestwair, Beit Al-Alouni, Geiboul and Al-Rahbeyia with lower levels of leaching. The highest concentrations of ammonium leaching were obtained during November 2019 and April 2020, ranging between 3.51 and 4.31 mg/L whilst the lowest concentration of ammonium (0.59 mg/L) was determined in January 2020. It was found that the levels of ammonium leaching decreased with depth. The statistical study showed a correlation between ammonium leaching and the following variables: organic matter (OM), the saturated hydraulic conductivity (SHC) and pH. Regression equations representing ammonium leaching in soil horizons and their role were also obtained.

In this study, the effect of the foliar spray with different concentrations of cycocel (600, 800, and 1200 ppm), salicylic acid (50, 100, and 150 ppm), and humic acid (500, 1000, and 1500 ppm) on potato grown under simulated water stress conditions (40% of field capacity) was studied. For that purpose, a completely randomized experiment was conducted in the spring season of 2019-2020 at Al- Hennadi research center, Lattakia, Syria. Potato plants were sprayed with the prepared solutions after 35 days of planting (tuber imitation stage) at ten days intervals three times. Leaf temperature, relative water content, electrolytic leakage, and water use efficiency were measured in treated plants and compared to the control. The results showed that all three substances (cycocel, salicylic acid, and humic acid) improved water stress resistance characteristics in potatoes. Cycocel was the most efficient in increasing relative water content at 1200 ppm concentration. On the other hand, salicylic acid at 50 ppm increased relative water content, water use efficiency, and electrolytic leakage compared to the control.

Science - Abstract

In the maritime environment, the Automatic Identification System (AIS) contains information related to vessel trajectories that can be used to detect unusual maritime occurrences and maritime traffic patterns. To detect such occurrences with supervised learning methods the AIS messages must be manually annotated, which can be a demanding process. Therefore, unsupervised methods are used to identify anomalous traffic patterns based on vessel trajectories. Typically, dense regions of maritime activity are studied to capture common traffic patterns which help identify trajectories that do not follow the norm. However, these approaches cannot detect anomalous behaviors along common pathways or incorporate time-related events into the analysis. Such challenges motivate the approach taken in this work by using auto-regressive techniques to model vessel trajectories and clustering analyses to explore behavior patterns of vessels. Results confirm that the Auto-regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) and Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (OU) processes are able to model the trajectories and can be used with density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN), hierarchical clustering (HC), and spectral clustering (SC) to identify different behavioral patterns.

Despite the fact that the resolution of conventional contact/proximity lithography can reach feature sizes down to ~0.5-0.6 micrometers, the accurate control of the linewidth and uniformity becomes already very challenging for gratings with periods in the range of 1-2 {\mu}m. This is particularly relevant for the exposure of large areas and wafers thinner than 300{\mu}m. If the wafer or mask surface is not fully flat due to any kind of defects, such as bowing/warpage or remaining topography of the surface in case of overlay exposures, noticeable linewidth variations or complete failure of lithography step will occur. We utilized the newly developed Displacement Talbot lithography to pattern gratings with equal lines and spaces and periods in the range of 1.0 to 2.4 {\mu}m. The exposures in this lithography process do not require contact between the mask and the wafer, which makes it essentially insensitive to surface planarity and enables exposures with very high linewidth uniformity on thin and even slightly deformed wafers. We demonstrated pattern transfer of such exposures into Si substrates by reactive ion etching using the Bosch process. An etching depth of 30 {\mu}m or more for the whole range of periods was achieved, which corresponds to very high aspect ratios up to 60:1. The application of the fabricated gratings in phase contrast x-ray imaging is presented.

It is known that, adding the number of lattice points lying on the boundary of a reflexive polygon and the number of lattice points lying on the boundary of its polar, always yields 12. Generalising appropriately the notion of reflexivity, one shows that this remains true for "$\ell$-reflexive polygons". In particular, there exist (for this reason) infinitely many (lattice inequivalent) lattice polygons with the same property. The first proof of this fact is due to Kasprzyk and Nill. The present paper contains a second proof (which uses tools only from toric geometry) as well as the description of complementary properties of these polygons and of the invariants of the corresponding toric log del Pezzo surfaces., Comment: 62 pages, 14 figures, and 15 tables

Computer Science - Learning - Abstract
Deep Learning (DL) is one of the most common subjects when Machine Learning and Data Science approaches are considered. There are clearly two movements related to DL: the first aggregates researchers in quest to outperform other algorithms from literature, trying to win contests by considering often small decreases in the empirical risk; and the second investigates overfitting evidences, questioning the learning capabilities of DL classifiers. Motivated by such opposed points of view, this paper employs the Statistical Learning Theory (SLT) to study the convergence of Deep Neural Networks, with particular interest in Convolutional Neural Networks. In order to draw theoretical conclusions, we propose an approach to estimate the Shattering coefficient of those classification algorithms, providing a lower bound for the complexity of their space of admissible functions, a.k.a. algorithm bias. Based on such estimator, we generalize the complexity of network biases, and, next, we study AlexNet and VGG16 architectures in the point of view of their Shattering coefficients, and number of training examples required to provide theoretical learning guarantees. From our theoretical formulation, we show the conditions which Deep Neural Networks learn as well as point out another issue: DL benchmarks may be strictly driven by empirical risks, disregarding the complexity of algorithms biases., Comment: Submitted to JMLR

High-accuracy speech recognition is especially challenging when large datasets are not available. It is possible to bridge this gap with careful and knowledge-driven parsing combined with the biologically inspired CNN and the learning guarantees of the Vapnik Chervonenkis (VC) theory. This work presents a Shallow-CNN-HTSVM (Hierarchical Tree Support Vector Machine classifier) architecture which uses a predefined knowledge-based set of rules with statistical machine learning techniques. Here we show that gross errors present even in state-of-the-art systems can be avoided and that an accurate acoustic model can be built in a hierarchical fashion. The CNN-HTSVM acoustic model outperforms traditional GMM-HMM models and the HTSVM structure outperforms a MLP multi-class classifier. More importantly we isolate the performance of the acoustic model and provide results on both the frame and phoneme level considering the true robustness of the model. We show that even with a small amount of data accurate and robust recognition rates can be obtained., Comment: Pre-review version of Bracis 2017

The future in the services industry belongs to Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven machines, which is a major source of worry for the job market in India. Over 50% of India’s GDP constitutes services, and it is a major source of employment for the skilled manpower of India. The research measures the impact of AI on service jobs in India based on qualitative parameters such as logical, natural, physical, and compassion; and finds which aspect serves the jobs better between machines and humans. The jobs taken over by AI are primarily at the task level more than the job level and for the basic tasks predominantly. The replacement starts with the basic tasks involved in providing service and then it grows to perform all the tasks involved in services. The research finds out that the logical aspects of the service will slowly reduce in the coming 5–10 years as AI will perform all the logic-related tasks leaving more emotional tasks such as compassion for humans. Finally, even these emotional-related tasks will be taken over by the AI which provides us with a very interesting combination of man and machine in the Indian scenario still threatening human employment.

Substituted [2.2]metaparacyclophanes are amongst the least studied of the simple cyclophanes. This is undoubtedly the result of the lengthy syntheses of these compounds. We report the simple synthesis of a rare example of a non-symmetric [2.2]metaparacyclophane. Treatment of [2.2]paracyclophane under standard nitration conditions gives a mixture of 4-nitro[2.2]paracyclophane, 4-hydroxy-5-nitro[2.2]metaparacyclophane and a cyclohexadienone cyclophane.

As governments take measures against COVID-19, the epidemic situation is expected to improve, but public sentiment is likely to fluctuate during this process, potentially influencing the best course of action. Social media has become a prevalent way for the public to express emotions and opinions in recent times. So that, the sentiment analysis on top of it may detect and provide valuable evidence of public attitude and help governments subsequent formulation of measures and policies. We present Senti-COVID19, an interactive visual analytic system for reflecting and analyzing public sentiment and detecting sentiment fluctuation triggers on social media. Senti-COVID19 adopts lexicon-based sentiment analysis to divulge the public opinion to COVID-19 events, employing libraries to extract keywords and statistics for providing detailed information. In addition, it offers visualizations for presenting the analysis, allowing users to quickly discover relevant information. Our results show that Senti-COVID19 can be used effectively to analyze sentiment from social media text, allowing users to explore derived data and identify insights from the collected tweets.

In the mixed stands of Fagus sylvatica - Abies borisii-regis in Aspropotamos (central Greece), 90 fir trees and 87 beech trees were randomly selected. Breast height diameter, total tree height and form factor were measured to the sampled trees, while 14 single-entry and 18 double-entry volume models were fitted to data. No double-entry model is selected for either species. The selected singleentry models for the estimation of the A. borisii-regis and F. sylvatica volume fit very well (R2>0.8), while the comparison of the two volume estimation curves reveals that fir has a larger volume than beech, when their diameter is the same. Fir has a mean form factor of 0.331, while beech has a mean form factor of 0.315. The observed form factor differences and different patterns in form factors between the two species can be the result of the differences in their growth (form and ecology).

The Weibull distribution is one of the widely known lifetime distribution that has been extensively used for modelling data in reliability and survival analysis. A generalization of both the Marshall-OlkinWeibull distribution and the Weibull truncated negative binomial distribution is introduced and studied in this article. Various distributional properties of the new distribution are derived. Estimation of model parameters using the method of maximum likelihood is discussed. Applications to a real data set is provided to show the flexibility and potentiality of the new distribution over other Weibull models. The first order autoregressive minification process with the new distribution as marginal is also developed. We hope that the new model will serve as a good alternative to other models available in the literature for modeling positive real data in several areas.

Automatic Identification System (AIS) messages are useful for tracking vessel activity across oceans worldwide using radio links and satellite transceivers. Such data play a significant role in tracking vessel activity and mapping mobility patterns such as those found during fishing activities. Accordingly, this paper proposes a geometric-driven semi-supervised approach for fishing activity detection from AIS data. Through the proposed methodology, it is shown how to explore the information included in the messages to extract features describing the geometry of the vessel route. To this end, we leverage the unsupervised nature of cluster analysis to label the trajectory geometry, highlighting changes in the vessel’s moving pattern, which tends to indicate fishing activity. The labels obtained by the proposed unsupervised approach are used to detect fishing activities, which we approach as a time-series classification task. We propose a solution using recurrent neural networks on AIS data streams with roughly 87% of the overall F-score on the whole trajectories of 50 different unseen fishing vessels. Such results are accompanied by a broad benchmark study assessing the performance of different Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) architectures. In conclusion, this work contributes by proposing a thorough process that includes data preparation, labeling, data modeling, and model validation. Therefore, we present a novel solution for mobility pattern detection that relies upon unfolding the geometry observed in the trajectory.

- Abstract
Nowadays an almost arbitrary variation of the laser beam intensity profile for material processing such as laser beam welding can be achieved through innovative beam shaping technologies. The resulting keyhole geometry strongly influences the flow of the liquid metal in the melt pool, the convective heat transport and subsequently the temperature distribution in the melt pool and the surrounding material. These can be effectively used for the process optimization towards defect free laser beam welding. Within this work, the influence of beam shaping on the melt flow and the resulting temperature distribution is analyzed using a numerical model. The results indicate that melt flow shaping allows for a reduction of the thermal losses and therefore an improvement of the thermal efficiency.
