Background Using Diabetes-related Apps can effectively reduce the patients’ level of glucose and rehospitalization rate. However, due to the serious homogeneity of diabetes apps content and uneven function quality, medical staffs and patients do not know how to choose. This study aimed to understand the development status of diabetes health management Apps, analyze their functions and characteristics, and provide recommendations for further improvement or development of diabetes-related Apps. Methods In May 2022, diabetes-related apps were screened in ten major App markets, including Android and iOS system by using the keywords either Chinese or English.Then, we searched the literature to supplement the APP.The apps that met the criteria were downloaded and their functions and characteristics were analyzed. Silberg scale was used to assess their information accountability. Results 105 diabetes-related apps were included, including 69 Chinese apps and 36 English apps. Almost all (97.8%) of which were developed by companies and commercial teams. Most of the apps (96.2%) were targeted at people with diabetes, and only 3.8% were for type 1 and gestational diabetes. The total mean score of Silberg scale was 3.60 ± 0.81. Among 28 functions, individual customized function and social support function are rare. Conclusion Nowadays, the overall accountability quality of diabetes-related apps is low. The functions are insufficient, and the individual customized functions need to be further explored. In the future, it should be strengthen the diversity and individualization of diabetes-related apps, and encourage medical staffs and patients to participate in the designment and development of Apps.

A chemical absorption-biological reduction process has been developed for the removal of NOx in middle and small-sized industrial boilers. Considering the gap of process and biofilms scale-up, a mesoscopic fluidic reactor was built to study the dynamic biofilm formation and Fe(III)EDTA reduction ability. The reactor was run multiple times with different biofilm formation times and was then studied by microscopy and Matlab software. Results show that the biofilm formation has great relevance to gravity and formed biofilm has a Fe(III)EDTA reduction ability of ∼5*10−10 mol/mm3/h at a flow rate of 40 μL/min. This data confirms the results in the previous research and the method provides a good way to design a scaled continuous flow chemical absorption-biological reduction system.

A Chemical absorption-bioelectrochemical reduction (CABER) system is based on Chemical absorption-biological reduction (CABR) system, which aims at NO removal and has been studied in many of our previous works. In this paper, we applied polypyrrole (PPy) on the electrode of bioelectrochemical reactor (BER) of CABER system, which induced a much higher current density in the cyclic voltammetry (CV) curve for the electrode itself and better NO removal rate in the system. In addition, a Microbial Electrolysis Cell (MEC) is constructed to study its strengthening mechanism. Results shows that PPy-MEC has a greater Faraday efficiency and higher reduction rate of Fe(III)EDTA and Fe(II)EDTA-NO in the solution when compared to original Carbon MEC, which confirms the advantage of PPy-modified electrode(s) in the CABER system. The results of this study are reported for illustration of potential of CABER technology and design of low-cost high-efficiency NOx control equipment in the future.

Biotechnology has proven effective in removing a wide variety of VOCs. In this study, the effects of pH (from 3 to 7), operating temperature (20 − 30 °C), empty bed residence time (EBRT, 10 − 40 s) and transient inlet concentration (400 − 4000 mg m−3) on the removal performance of an airlift packing bioreactor (ALPR) was investigated. The removal efficiency (RE) and stability of the ALPR was evaluated and compared with the conventional airlift bioreactor (ALR). The results showed that under the influence of single factor variation, the ALPR showed significant higher RE and better stability than the ALR in removing dichloromethane (DCM) and toluene. Besides, a factorial design was used to analyses the interaction of multiple factors and their influence on the removal of DCM and toluene in the ALPR and ALR. It shows that pH value has the most significant influence, and plays a crucial role in maintaining high RE of DCM and toluene in both of the ALPR and ALR. Temperature has a great effect on the removal of toluene. EBRT has certain effect on the removal of DCM in the ALPR. The transient concentration of a single substrate has a significant negative effect on the RE of this substrate, while it does not significantly affect the removal of another substrate in the ALPR. However, the steep increase of DCM concentration has an adverse effect on the RE of high concentration toluene in the ALR. The overall RE and degradation capacity of both toluene and DCM by the ALPR are much higher than that of the conventional ALR.
