2. Climate Change and Fish Farming: Venetian “Fish Valleys” as a Design Device for Coastal Adaptation and Mitigation

- Abstract
Beginning in the fourteenth century, along the northeastern Italian coastline, Venetians began to create a series of hydraulic structures called “fishing valleys,” which combined aquaculture production with lagoon and seawater management. According to the current scenarios provided by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the coastal areas, where many historic fish farms still stand, will inevitably be affected by the rise in sea level. To be preserved, coastlines will require some sort of water defense or possibly a managed retreat. Can we redesign traditional fish-farm systems as climate, economic and environmental adaptation devices? Through a series of design scenarios, this contribution explores how traditional fish farming can help redefine the territorial scale by addressing climate change and reviving existing production systems., Landscape Architecture

3. Statements on Landscape Architecture Programs Worldwide: Case Studies across the Globe

- Abstract
This article drafts a global picture of landscape program offerings worldwide through data collection, mapping, and targeted interviews. The study presents data collection on landscape architecture programs throughout the world and interviews with graduate program directors. The selection criteria for the case studies address diversity in crucial categories. The interviews elucidate current curricular trends in master’s degree tracks. This research supports the view that global landscape programs are mainly a product of Western knowledge, dealing with urban centers primarily located in one of the world’s 14 biomes. At the master’s level, programs respond to diverse missions according to context, cultural differences, and traditions. Future trends and challenges for landscape architecture programs include climate change, new technologies, social justice, and equity. In light of these findings, we call for a collective landscape education to respond to unprecedented and overwhelming climatic, economic, and social uncertainties., Landscape Architecture

4. The geology of landscapes: Times, rhythms, palimpsests of the Rhenish crater

- Abstract
The Hambach mine is one of Europe’s largest and deepest open-cast coal mines. Humans have transformed the landscape to the point of giving life to a new geological era. The mine is the symbol of humanity’s power over territorial, environmental, and climatic transformations at impressive levels of scale and scope. This contribution sums up five different times of the Hambach mine landscape, with its rhythms and palimpsests: deep geological time, historical time, the rapid anthropogenic time of excavation, the present time of transition towards new forms of energy, and finally, future time with the conversion of the crater into a lake. Time is the driving force of this place in light of the geological, anthropic, and climatic changes. The work presents a reflection on the IDEA League summer workshop held in 2022 by TU Delft in collaboration with Aachen University and Politecnico di Milano., Landscape Architecture

5. The past, present and future of the Wadden Sea, its islands and hinterland

- Abstract
Lagoons, wetlands, islands, and their inland areas struggle between two opposing forces, permanence, and transformation. Coastal lagoons are constantly evolving dynamic natural ecosystems, shaped over the centuries by natural phenomena and ongoing anthropic interventions. The war between man and nature is waged on various fronts: geo-morphological, climatic, ecological-environmental, architectural, and landscape, as well as in urban settlements. Despite being a UNESCO World Heritage Site of extraordinary environmental value and beauty, the Wadden Sea, its territories, and its people, are facing an uncertain future, while currently wrestling with a latent climatic, economic-productive, and social crisis. Subsidence increased by gas extraction, soil erosion, saltwater intrusion, eutrophication, and agricultural water pollution testify to a territory in the throes of long-term repossession by the sea. Unlike large coastal conurbations, these areas are marginal territories, with low levels of urbanization, and are mainly linked to agricultural, fishing, tourist development, and dying industrial activities. Starting from the past, the present, and its legacies, the presented work will present many possible futures of the Wadden Sea and its hinterland., Landscape Architecture

10. Land of sand: reclaiming the sea, landscapes and lives in Malacca, Malaysia

- Abstract
Today, the landscapes of Asia—and Southeast Asia in particular—are undergoing major transformations, many of which are due to urbanisation processes that impact coastal areas. These are often controversial reclamation projects, generically referred to as the ‘war of sand’—an (in)visible conflict named for the raw material used to develop artificial land for property development. In Malacca, Malaysia, coastal urbanisation engenders serious environmental damage via the elimination of mangroves, deterioration of water quality and marine ecosystems, and erosion. It also causes severe social and economic transformation that leads to specific social dynamics marked by the marginalisation of certain ethnic minorities. This invites us to rethink the right to the city and the landscape in the moment of reclaiming land. For this purpose, this article describes how coastal development and reclamation projects are heavily mining local communities and the environment. The sand war, it turns out, is not purely a resource-grabbing conflict nor a real estate process with heavy environmental implications, but an implicit war against ethnic and religious communities. BackgroundHealthcare workers (HCW) are at increased risk of being infected with SARS-CoV-2, yet limited information is available on risk factors of infection.MethodsWe pooled data on occupational surveillance of 10,654 HCW who were tested for SARS-CoV-2 infection in six Italian centers. Information was available on demographics, job title, department of employment, source of exposure, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and COVID-19-related symptoms. We fitted multivariable logistic regression models to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI).FindingsThe prevalence of infection varied across centers and ranged from 3.0% to 22.0%, being strongly correlated with that of the respective areas. Women were at lower risk of infection compared to men. Fever, cough, dyspnea and malaise were the symptoms most strongly associated with infection, together with anosmia and ageusia. No differences in the risk of infection were detected between job titles, or working in a COVID-19 designated department. Reported contact with a patient inside or outside the workplace was a risk factor. Use of a mask was strongly protective against risk of infection as was use of gloves. The use of a mask by the source of exposure (patient or colleague) had an independent effect in reducing infection risk.

Digital terrestrial survey techniques such as photogrammetry (SfM) and 3D laser scanning have certain limitations. These depend on the tools used, geometry, lighting conditions and distance from the element which is being surveyed. Therefore, the aim of this study is to describe a method for the correct digital survey of high elements (with tower typology) when working with such restrictions, as well as to verify the relevance of its usefulness. This methodology is applied to two bell towers located in Ravenna (Italy) allowing a series of tests and reasoning on geometric accuracy and quality of the texture obtained in final models. Las técnicas de levantamiento digital terrestres como la fotogrametría (SfM) y el láser escáner 3D (TLS) poseen ciertas limitaciones en función de las herramientas utilizadas y de la geometría, condiciones de iluminación y distancia del elemento con el que se trabaja. Por ello, el objetivo de este estudio es describir un método para el correcto levantamiento digital de elementos altos (con tipología de torre) cuando se trabaja con dichas restricciones, así como verificar la pertinencia de su utilidad. Dicha metodología se aplica a dos torres campanario situadas en Ravenna (Italia) permitiendo realizar una serie de ensayos y razonamientos sobre la precisión y la calidad de la textura obtenida en los modelos finales.

Background Few data are reported in the literature about the outcome of patients with severe extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-E) infections treated with ceftolozane/tazobactam (C/T), in empiric or definitive therapy. Methods A multicenter retrospective study was performed in Italy (June 2016–June 2019). Successful clinical outcome was defined as complete resolution of clinical signs/symptoms related to ESBL-E infection and lack of microbiological evidence of infection. The primary end point was to identify predictors of clinical failure of C/T therapy. Results C/T treatment was documented in 153 patients: pneumonia was the most common diagnosis (n = 46, 30%), followed by 34 cases of complicated urinary tract infections (22.2%). Septic shock was observed in 42 (27.5%) patients. C/T was used as empiric therapy in 46 (30%) patients and as monotherapy in 127 (83%) patients. Favorable clinical outcome was observed in 128 (83.7%) patients; 25 patients were considered to have failed C/T therapy. Overall, 30-day mortality was reported for 15 (9.8%) patients. At multivariate analysis, Charlson comorbidity index >4 (odds ratio [OR], 2.3; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.9–3.5; P = .02), septic shock (OR, 6.2; 95% CI, 3.8–7.9; P < .001), and continuous renal replacement therapy (OR, 3.1; 95% CI, 1.9–5.3; P = .001) were independently associated with clinical failure, whereas empiric therapy displaying in vitro activity (OR, 0.12; 95% CI, 0.01–0.34; P < .001) and adequate source control of infection (OR, 0.42; 95% CI, 0.14–0.55; P < .001) were associated with clinical success. Conclusions Data show that C/T could be a valid option in empiric and/or targeted therapy in patients with severe infections caused by ESBL-producing Enterobacterales. Clinicians should be aware of the risk of clinical failure with standard-dose C/T therapy in septic patients receiving CRRT.

Design works start from the belief that the landscape is not only an environmental resource, but also a factor that can become an economic resource, a major driving force for alternative development of the territory and its cities and people.

Recent events provide ample proof of the fragility of cities, territories and airport nodes when they come face-to-face with extreme and unexpected events. The Coronavirus pandemic, for example, has caused a complete disruption in the air network. Climate change, recurrent floods, rising seas, desertification, land impoverishment and, more generally, extreme meteorological events can temporarily or permanently compromise mobility networks and spaces. - Abstract
Objectives: Circulating anti-ENO1 and anti-H2A IgG2 have been identified as specific signatures of LN in a cross-over approach. We sought to show whether the same antibodies identify selected population of patients with LN with potentially different clinical outcomes. Methods: Here we report the prospective analysis over 36 months of circulating IgG2 levels in patients with newly diagnosed LN (n=91) and SLE (n=31) and in other patients with SLE recruited within 2 years from diagnosis (n=99). Anti-podocyte (ENO1), anti-nucleosome (DNA, histone 2 A, histone 3) and anti-circulating proteins (C1q, AnnexinA1-ANXA1) IgG2 antibodies were determined by home-made techniques. Results: LN patients were the main focus of the study. Anti-ENO1, anti-H2A and anti-ANXA1 IgG2 decreased in parallel to proteinuria and normalized within 12 months in the majority of patients while anti-dsDNA IgG2 remained high over the 36 months. Anti-ENO1 and anti-H2A had the highest association with proteinuria (Heat Map) and identified the highest number of patients with high proteinuria (68% and 71% respectively) and/or with reduced estimated glomerula filtration rate (eGFR) (58% for both antibodies) compared with 23% and 17% of anti-dsDNA (agreement analysis). Anti-ENO1 positive LN patients had higher proteinuria than negative patients at T0 and presented the maximal decrement within 12 months. Conclusions: Anti-ENO1, anti-H2A and anti-ANXA1 antibodies were associated with high proteinuria in LN patients and Anti-ENO1 also presented the maximal reduction within 12 months that paralleled the decrease of proteinuria. Anti-dsDNA were not associated with renal outcome parameters. New IgG2 antibody signatures should be utilized as tracers of personalized therapies in LN. - Abstract
Objectives: Serum anti-dsDNA and anti-nucleosome IgGs have been proposed as signatures for SLE and LN in limited numbers of patients. We sought to show higher sensitivity and specificity of the same antibodies with the IgG2 isotype and included IgG2 antibodies vs specific intracellular antigens in the analysis. Methods: A total of 1052 SLE patients with (n = 479) and without (n = 573) LN, recruited at different times from the beginning of symptoms, were included in the study. Patients with primary APS (PAPS, n = 24), RA (RA, n = 24) and UCTD (UCTD, n = 96) were analysed for comparison. Anti-nucleosome (dsDNA, Histone2A, Histone3), anti-intracellular antigens (ENO1), anti-annexin A1 and anti-C1q IgG2 were determined by non-commercial techniques. Results: The presence in the serum of the IgG2 panel was highly discriminatory for SLE/LN vs healthy subjects. Serum levels of anti-dsDNA and anti-C1q IgG2 were more sensitive than those of IgGs (Farr radioimmunoassay/commercial assays) in identifying SLE patients at low-medium increments. Of more importance, serum positivity for anti-ENO1 and anti-H2A IgG2 discriminated between LN and SLE (ROC T0-12 months), and high levels at T0-1 month were detected in 63% and 67%, respectively, of LN, vs 3% and 3%, respectively, of SLE patients; serum positivity for each of these was correlated with high SLEDAI values. Minor differences existed between LN/SLE and the other rheumatologic conditions. Conclusion: Nephritogenic IgG2 antibodies represent a specific signature of SLE/LN, with a few overlaps with other rheumatologic conditions. High levels of anti-ENO1 and anti-H2A IgG2 correlated with SLE activity indexes and were discriminatory between SLE patients limited to the renal complication and other SLE patients. The Maritime Theatre is one of the iconic buildings of Hadrian's Villa, Tivoli. The state of conservation of the theatre is not only the result of weathering over time, but also due to restoration work carried out during the Fifties of the past century. Although this anastylosis process had the virtue of partially restoring a few of the fragments of the compound's original image, it now reveals diverse inconsistencies and genuine errors in the reassembling of the fragments. This study aims at carrying out a digital reinterpretation of the restoration of the architectural fragments in relation to the architectural order, with particular reference to the miscellaneous decoration of the frieze of the Teatro Marittimo (vestibule and atrium). Over the course of the last few years the Teatro Marittimo has been the target of numerous surveying campaigns using digital methodology (laser scanner and photogrammetry SfM/MVS). Starting with the study of the remains of the opus caementicium on the ground, it is possible to identify surfaces which are then used in the model for subsequent cross sections, so as to achieve the best fitting circumferences to use as reference points to put the fragments back into place. Aim: To evaluate the TRT results in patients who did not complete the program, with particular reference to the timing and the reasons of their dropout. Design: retrospective case-control study with a telephone survey of 90 patients divided into three groups on the basis of the time of TRT program attendance. A group of control cases (CC) who completed with efficacy the whole TRT program was included.36 patients completed only the first phase of the TRT program (Missing group; M), 34 patients attended additional counseling for less than six months (Non-Compliant; NC), 20 patients attended counseling for more than six months but did not complete the TRT program (Compliant; C). 28 patients (CC) completed with efficacy the whole TRT program. Demographic factors and initial Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) and tinnitus Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for tinnitus score did not predict patients' dropout from the treatment. Telephonic THI and VAS were significantly lower than the initial ones in all the study groups, except for NC group. To have not shared the TRT program is a fundamental reason for TRT poor results. A single counselling can be effective also in the case the TRT program is not shared, but to follow a part of the TRT program with poor motivations and wrong expectations lead to not satisfactory results. Objectives Serum anti-dsDNA and anti-nucleosome IgGs have been proposed as signatures for SLE and LN in limited numbers of patients. We sought to show higher sensitivity and specificity of the same antibodies with the IgG2 isotype and included IgG2 antibodies vs specific intracellular antigens in the analysis. Methods A total of 1052 SLE patients with (n = 479) and without (n = 573) LN, recruited at different times from the beginning of symptoms, were included in the study. Patients with primary APS (PAPS, n = 24), RA (RA, n = 24) and UCTD (UCTD, n = 96) were analysed for comparison. Objectives Circulating anti-ENO1 and anti-H2A IgG2 have been identified as specific signatures of LN in a cross-over approach. We sought to show whether the same antibodies identify selected population of patients with LN with potentially different clinical outcomes. Methods Here we report the prospective analysis over 36 months of circulating IgG2 levels in patients with newly diagnosed LN (n=91) and SLE (n=31) and in other patients with SLE recruited within 2 years from diagnosis (n=99). Anti-podocyte (ENO1), anti-nucleosome (DNA, histone 2 A, histone 3) and anti-circulating proteins (C1q, AnnexinA1-ANXA1) IgG2 antibodies were determined by home-made techniques. Results LN patients were the main focus of the study. Anti-ENO1, anti-H2A and anti-ANXA1 IgG2 decreased in parallel to proteinuria and normalized within 12 months in the majority of patients while anti-dsDNA IgG2 remained high over the 36 months. Anti-ENO1 and anti-H2A had the highest association with proteinuria (Heat Map) and identified the highest number of patients with high proteinuria (68% and 71% respectively) and/or with reduced estimated glomerula filtration rate (eGFR) (58% for both antibodies) compared with 23% and 17% of anti-dsDNA (agreement analysis). Anti-ENO1 positive LN patients had higher proteinuria than negative patients at T0 and presented the maximal decrement within 12 months. Conclusions Anti-ENO1, anti-H2A and anti-ANXA1 antibodies were associated with high proteinuria in LN patients and Anti-ENO1 also presented the maximal reduction within 12 months that paralleled the decrease of proteinuria. Anti-dsDNA were not associated with renal outcome parameters. New IgG2 antibody signatures should be utilized as tracers of personalized therapies in LN. In-depth studies on the design of the domes of the Octagonal Hall of the Small Baths and the Vestibule of the Golden Court at Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli have been conducted starting from 3D surveys carried out with active and passive sensors. Through the comparison of the ichnographia and orthographia of these emblematic examples of architectural experimentation, common elements and features have emerged which, thanks to the integrated use of new measurement technologies, have allowed us to hypothesise dimensioning systems of the vertical structures together with possible criteria for defining the intrados–extrados relationship. Hadrian’s architects’ use of precise grid-based designs to facilitate the achievement of target quantities (required areas and volumes) as well as modules aimed at defining alignments of horizontal and vertical structures emerge clearly, providing useful elements for an integrated reading of the individual buildings to support the archaeological investigation.

Simple Summary Uterine sarcomas can affect patients of reproductive age. In this setting, the chance of a fertility-sparing treatment would allow women to become pregnant. In the literature, only a few experiences of fertility-sparing treatment of uterine sarcomas have been reported; however, the oncological safety and reproductive outcomes remain unclear. The aim of this systematic review is to report and summarize all the published evidence about the fertility-sparing approach in these rare and heterogenous tumors, and to help physicians in making clinical decisions. Abstract Uterine sarcomas are rare cancers, sometimes diagnosed in women of childbearing age. Hysterectomy is the standard treatment in early stages. The option of lesion removal to save fertility is described in the literature, but it is still considered experimental. The objective of this systematic review is to report on the available evidence on the reproductive and oncological outcomes of fertility-sparing treatment in women with uterine sarcomas. PubMed, Scopus and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched between 1 January 2011 and 21 June 2021 for publications in English about women with uterine sarcoma treated with a fertility-sparing intervention. Thirty-seven studies were included for a total of 210 patients: 63 low-grade endometrial stromal sarcomas, 35 embryonal rhabdomyosarcomas of the cervix, 19 adenosarcomas, 7 leiomyosarcomas and 2 uterine tumors resembling an ovarian sex cord. Conservative treatment ensured pregnancy in 32% of cases. In terms of oncological outcomes, relapse was related to histology and the worst prognosis was reported for leiomyosarcoma, followed by low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma, which relapsed in 71% and 54% of cases, respectively. The highest death rate was associated with leiomyosarcoma (57.1%). This study demonstrated that fertility-sparing treatments may be employed in selected cases of early stage uterine sarcoma.
