The larch budmoth (Zeiraphera diniana Gn. - LBM) offers a unique example of cyclic fluctuations in insect populations. During regular LBM mass outbreaks, defoliation of European larch (Larix decidua Mill.) subalpine trees results in distinct ring-width reductions in the host trees. Although several observations, reconstructions and models suggest that LBM outbreaks travel from the southwest to the northeast along the Alpine arc, gaps in the underlying data still hamper our mechanistic understanding of the spatio-temporal system dynamics. Evidence of historical LBM outbreaks before 1964 is generally associated with uncertainty and is particularly scarce for the Central Italian Alps. Here, we introduce four new larch ring-width chronologies from Val di Sole in the Central Italian Alps and use time-series analyses and comparisons with non-host trees (Picea abies Karst.) to reconstruct LBM mass outbreaks. We identify distinct fingerprints of 15 spatially-synchronized LBM events that occurred between 1774 and 1964 CE. Our results are important for improving qualitative space-time models to simulate travelling wave dynamics of insect populations, and for correcting ring-width-based summer temperature reconstructions from this part of the Alpine arc.

This study analyzed the accumulation of arsenic and its influence on the content of P, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, S, Ca, Cl, and K in fronds ofAzolla filiculoidesvia X-ray fluorescence (XRF).Azollawas exposed to increased concentrations of sodium arsenate (0, 5, 10, 20, and 30 μg ml − 1) in Yoshida's nutrient solution. After 96 h, fronds were collected and taken to constant weight to calculate the relative growth rate (RGR), the biomass duplication rate, the bioaccumulation factor (BAF), and the elemental concentration via XRF analysis. By increasing As concentrations the RGR and BAF were reduced. The greatest accumulation of As in fronds was achieved at 20 μg As ml − 1, which did not show significant differences with the highest concentration. Accumulation of As in fronds diminished concentrations of Mn, Fe, Zn, S, Ca, and K, while the concentration of P remained low but unchanging. The P content was significantly lower than the As content, thus the As:P ratio in fronds enhanced as the As concentration increased. Concentrations of Cl and Cu were unaffected due to As. Terrestrial plant roots exude compounds that promote the proliferation of microorganisms, a phenomenon called the rhizosphere effect. However, little is known about the influence of roots of aquatic plants on microbial populations. We compared cultivable bacteria and protozoa from the rhizoplanes ofAzolla filiculoidesLam.,Lemna gibbaL., andRicciocarpus natansL., collected at the Tecocomulco Lagoon (Hidalgo, Mexico). The functional bacterial groups isolated fromA. filiculoides,L. gibbaandR. natans, were macro- and microscopically characterized, and phylogenetically identified using the 16S rDNA gen. About 96% of isolates corresponded to Gram-negative bacteria, and potential N-fixing free-living bacteria (diazotrophic bacteria) were the most abundant. Molecular analysis detected 15 bacterial genera in the rhizoplane ofR. natans, whereasA. filiculoidesandL. gibbaonly yielded five genera, among whichAeromonaswas predominant. Twenty-five genera of flagellated and 20 genera of ciliated protozoa were identified.Bodowas the more abundant flagellated, whereasHalteriawas the most frequent ciliate. All three aquatic plants showed the rhizospheric effects. The most abundant and diverse community of protozoa was found inA. filiculoides, which also had the most abundant bacterial community, but the highest bacterial diversity was found inR. natans. It is a well-known fact that amines are not stable in food of a fatty nature. In this study the synthesis and characterisation of the products obtained as a result of the reaction of amines in a fatty medium are reported. Based on the well-known reactions among amines and acid and esters groups, two novel compounds were synthesised usingm-xylylenediamine (mXDA), a primary diamine widely used as monomer in the manufacture of food contact materials and two fatty acids, oleic acid and palmitic acid, which occur in most fats. The resulting compounds were two molecules belonging to the family of fatty acid amides, dioleamide and dipalmitamide. A complete characterisation of both products was carried out employing several techniques such as infrared spectroscopy,1H- and13C-NMR spectroscopy, electron ionisation mass spectrometry, LC-MS/MS and UV spectrometry. The results obtained by the different techniques were well correlated. In the second part of the work, the formation of these compounds in real samples was evaluated. For this purpose a certain volume of olive oil was spiked with a known amount of mXDA. Olive oil was selected as a fatty medium since it is a widely consumed food and additionally is used as a fatty food simulant in migration studies of food contact materials. A method was developed to extract the fatty acid amides from the fatty matrix, which were then identified by LC-MS/MS. The aim of our study was to characterize the hydrodynamics and mass transfer in a novel internal flat-plate airlift cylindrical reactor to increase the biodegradation of newspaper. We evaluated the degradation kinetics of newspaper in a batch culture with Trichoderma reesei . Gas holdup, mixing time, the Reynolds number, and volumetric mass transfer coefficient ( k L a ) properties were characterized in biphasic and triphasic systems in order to optimize their operational conditions. An analysis of two effective factors in three levels including k L a , and Reynolds number (Re) were optimized by a full factorial design. Furthermore, a follow-up analysis of the ANOVA results p  ≤ 0.05 was performed using Tukey's rank test method for p -value corrections. The overall k L a (triphasic system) was calculated to be between 2.34 and 14.76 h -1 with an optimal value of 8.0 h -1 (Flow: 3 L min -1 ) and a Re of 1757. In addition, to show the optimal conditions, kinetic experiments were developed for 20 days using newspaper as carbon source for quantified the enzyme activities, biomass, residual cellulose, and reducing sugars 1421 IU L -1 CMCase, 8.02, 2.19, and 0.07 g L -1 , respectively. The degradation rate of newspaper was over 80%, which was significantly higher than that of the nominal value. Finally, the theoretical correlation proposed for k L a was compared and estimated with respect to the experimental values with an error of ±20%. The k L a and the Re are important criteria in assessing an optimal degradation of newspaper in an industrial process scale-up.

The Eurasian wild boar ( Sus scrofa ) is a key wildlife host for tuberculosis (TB) in central and southwestern Spain, posing a challenge to TB eradication in livestock. New strategies, including the use of beneficial microbes, are being explored to mitigate wildlife diseases. This study evaluated the effect of oral supplementation with postbiotic antimycobacterial metabolites produced using Ingulados' lactic acid bacteria (LAB) collection on TB development in wild boar. A total of 20 game estates in mid-western Spain were divided into two groups: one fed with standard feed containing the postbiotic product and a control group fed without postbiotics. Data were collected from wild boar during hunting events pre- and post-supplementation. The presence of TB-like lesions (TBLLs), lesion severity and seropositivity against Mycobacterium bovis were assessed. Postbiotic supplementation led to a 36.87% reduction in TBLLs and a 35.94% decrease in seropositivity. Notably, young wild boar showed a 64.72% reduction in TBLLs and an 81.80% drop in seropositivity, suggesting reduced transmission. These findings support the potential of postbiotics as a safe, feasible and sustainable tool to control TB in wild boar, offering a promising addition to broader TB eradication efforts.

Tunicate maize ( Zea mays var. tunicata A. St. Hil) is a landrace that constitutes a fundamental aspect of the socio-cultural identity of Ixtenco, Tlaxcala (Mexico) and represents an exotic phenotype whose kernels are enclosed in leaflike glumes. Despite multiple studies conducted worldwide on plant growth-promoting-rhizobacteria (PGPR) in commercial maize varieties grown under monoculture systems, very little is known about bacteria inhabiting native maize landraces in agroecosystems, but for tunicate maize such knowledge is non-existent. This research described and profiled functional groups of culturable rhizobacteria from tunicate maize at two phenological stages (tasseling and maturity/senescence) in a polyculture system, highlighting potential PGPR for biotechnological purposes. Ninety-five rhizobacteria were isolated and molecularly identified, and their physiological activities such as plant growth promotion, production of exogenous lytic enzymes, and antagonism against fungal pathogens were determined. The culturable rhizobacterial community associated to tunicate maize comprised 42 genera, dominated by Bacillaceae, Comamonadaceae, Microbacteriaceae, Micrococcaceae, Oxalobacteraceae, Pseudomonadaceae, and Rhizobaceae families. At tasseling stage, the identified bacteria corresponded to Arthrobacter , Priestia , Herbaspirillum , Pseudomonas , and Rhizobium , and exhibited redundant capabilities for stimulating plant growth and nutrition, and inhibiting fungal phytopathogens. At maturity/senescence stage, the main genera Arthrobacter and Microbacterium displayed lytic capabilities to support mineralization process. We recorded potential novel rhizosphere functional bacteria such as Rhizobium , Sphingobium , and Arthrobacter which are not previously described associated to maize landraces, as well as their bioprospection as PGPR detected at plant phenological stages poorly explored (like maturity/senescence). This taxonomic and functional diversity was attributed to the application of agricultural practices as well as the rhizosphere effect during specific phenological stages. The biochemical response of plants exposed to pesticides and inoculated with microorganisms is of great importance to explore cleaning up strategies for contaminated sites with pyrethroid-based pesticides. We evaluated the effects of a Trichoderma consortium on the biochemical responses of Echinochloa polystachya plants during the removal of a pyrethroid-based pesticide. Plants were inoculated or not with the Trichoderma consortium and exposed to commercial pesticide H24 ® , based on pyrethroids. Pesticide application resulted in significant reduction in root protein content (58%), but enhanced content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in shoots, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in shoots and roots, and catalase (CAT) activity in roots. Inoculation of Trichoderma consortium in E. polystachya exposed to the pesticide resulted in increased protein content in roots and MDA content in shoots (2-fold). Trichoderma consortium improved protein content and SOD activity (140-fold) in plants. Fungal inoculation increased the removal (97.9%) of the pesticide in comparison to the sole effect of plants (33.9%). Results allow further understanding about the responses of the interaction between plants and root-associated fungi to improving the assisted-phytoremediation of solid matrices contaminated with organic pesticides.

Hallux metatarsophalangeal joint cheilectomy is a joint-sparing technique that involves resection of the dorsal metatarsal head osteophytes; this may be achieved through minimally invasive and arthroscopic techniques. General indications for minimally invasive surgery (MIS) cheilectomy are mild-to-moderate hallux rigidus (Grades I-II) with symptomatic dorsal osteophytes causing dorsal impingement and/or shoe wear irritation in those who have failed extensive nonoperative management. The literature confirms equivalent outcomes to open cheilectomy; however, it is somewhat inconsistent regarding superiority. The rhizosphere of plants are natural hosts for beneficial microorganisms such as plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). The objective of this work was to determine the effect of a consortium of AMF and three strains of PGPR on growth, gas exchange and phosphorus content in poblano pepper plants. An experiment was established in a completely randomized design with factorial arrangement, with two factors: AMF [ Funneliformis geosporum and Claroideoglomus sp. (AM) and without AM (WM)] and PGPR [ Rhizobium nepotum (B1), Serratia plymuthica (B2), Pseudomonas tolaasii (B3) and without PGPR (WB)]; generating eight treatments: T1) AM+B1, T2) AM+B2, T3) AM+B3, T4) AM+WB, T5) WM+B1, T6) WM+B2, T7) WM+B3 and T8) WM+WB. Plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, number of flowers, dry biomass, phosphorus content and AMF colonization were measured; internal CO 2 concentration (Ci), transpiration rate (E), stomatal conductance (gS) and photosynthesis rate (Pn) were determined in leaves. Co-inoculation with AM+B3 promoted greater height (35%), number of leaves (66%), leaf area (62%), dry biomass (140%), phosphorus content (195%) and mycorrhizal colonization (26%); AM+B2 improved Ci (5%), E (8%), gS (5%) and Pn (9%) in poblano pepper leaves, compared to the control treatment (WM+WB). Recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) is a rare genetic disease caused by loss of function mutations in the gene coding for collagen VII (C7) due to deficient or absent C7 expression. This disrupts structural and functional skin architecture, leading to blistering, chronic wounds, inflammation, important systemic symptoms affecting the mouth, gastrointestinal tract, cornea, and kidney function, and an increased skin cancer risk. RDEB patients have an extremely poor quality of life and often die at an early age. A frequent class of mutations in RDEB is premature termination codons (PTC), which appear in homozygosity or compound heterozygosity with other mutations. RDEB has no cure and current therapies are mostly palliative. Using patient-derived keratinocytes and a library of 8273 small molecules and 20,160 microbial extracts evaluated in a phenotypic screening interrogating C7 levels, we identified three active chemical series. Two of these series had PTC readthrough activity, and one upregulated C7 mRNA, showing synergistic activity when combined with the reference readthrough molecule gentamicin. Background: Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for hallux valgus (HV) has gained popularity. However, adopting this technique faces the challenges of a pronounced learning curve. This study aimed to address these challenges by developing and validating an innovative simulation model and training program, targeting enhanced proficiency in HV MIS., Methods: A training program and a high-fidelity simulation model for HV MIS were designed based on experts' recommendations. Four foot and ankle surgeons without experience in MIS formed the novice group and took the program that encompassed six-session instructional lessons, hands-on practice on simulated models, and immediate feedback. The program concluded with a cadaveric surgery. Four foot and ankle experienced MIS surgeons formed the expert group and underwent the same procedure with one simulated model. Participants underwent blind assessment, including Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills (OSATS), surgical time, and radiograph usage., Results: Expert evaluation of the simulation model indicated high satisfaction with anatomical representation, handling properties, and utility as a training tool. The expert group consistently outperformed novices at the initial assessment across all outcomes, demonstrating OSATS scores of 24 points (range, 23 to 25) versus 15.5 (range, 12 to 17), median surgical time of 22.75 minutes (range, 12 to 27) versus 48.75 minutes (range, 38 to 60), and median radiograph usage of 70 (range, 53 to 102) versus 232.5 (range, 112 to 280)., Discussion: Novices exhibited a significant improvement in OSATS scores from the fifth session onward (P = 0.01), reaching the desired performance of 20 points. Store-operated Ca 2+ entry (SOCE) is a major mechanism for Ca 2+ influx in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. This mechanism, regulated by the filling state of the intracellular Ca 2+ stores, is mediated by the endoplasmic reticulum Ca 2+ sensors of the stromal interaction molecules (STIM) family [stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1) and STIM2] and the Ca 2+ -release-activated Ca 2+ channels constituted by Orai family members, with predominance of calcium release-activated calcium channel protein 1 (Orai1). CRC cells exhibit enhanced SOCE due to remodeling of the expression of the key SOCE molecular components. The enhanced SOCE supports a variety of cancer hallmarks. Here, we show that treatment of the colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines HT-29 and Caco-2 with inanimate Lacticaseibacillus paracasei (CECT9610) and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum (CECT9608) attenuates SOCE, although no detectable effect is seen on SOCE in normal colon mucosa cells. The effect of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum postbiotics was mediated by downregulation of Orai1 and STIM1, while the expression levels of Orai3 and STIM2 remained unaltered. Treatment of HT-29 and Caco-2 cells with inanimate Lacticaseibacillus paracasei and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum impairs in vitro migration by a mechanism likely involving attenuation of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) tyrosine phosphorylation. Cell treatment with the Orai1 inhibitor synta-66 attenuates SOCE and prevents any further effect of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum postbiotics. Together, our results indicate for the first time that Lacticaseibacillus paracasei and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum postbiotics selectively exert negative effects on Ca 2+ influx through SOCE in colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines, providing evidence for an attractive strategy against CRC., (© 2024 The Authors. In hunted animals, quality of blood samples may often be compromised. Alternative samples, such as meat juice, may offer an advantage to perform serological tests. This study evaluates if meat juice is a feasible alternative sample to perform the Tuberculosis ELISA test in hunted large game. Between 2017 and 2022, 175 samples were collected from 97 animals (14 red deer + 83 wild boar) in Portugal and Spain. Cohen's kappa coefficient was calculated at 0.71, pointing out a good agreement using 156 paired samples. The sensitivity of the ELISA test with serum was 37.6%, considering Tuberculosis-like lesions (TBL) detected during the initial examination (26 TBL+/ELISA+ in a total of 78 serum samples). Using meat juice as matrix, the sensitivity increased to 37.5% (33 TBL+/ELISA+ in 97 meat juice samples). According to the agreement score and sensitivity being so close between the two matrices tested, meat juice could be a feasible alternative matrix.

Antimicrobial resistance is a critical challenge due to the overuse of conventional antimicrobials, and alternative solutions are urgently needed. This study investigates the efficacy of compounds derived from lactic acid bacteria (LAB) fermentation combined with antibiotics against multidrug-resistant pathogens isolated from clinical cases in a hospital setting. Strains of Escherichia coli , Klebsiella pneumoniae , and Enterococcus faecium and faecalis were isolated and selected from blood, respiratory, and urine samples. They were tested against the fermentation products from the Ingulados LAB collection (BAL5, BAL6, BAL8, BAL13, and BAL16), recognized for their antimicrobial efficacy against veterinary pathogens. The activity against multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens was evaluated initially, followed by synergy tests using checkerboard assays and subsequent analysis. Bioinformatic assessments and supernatant treatments were performed to characterize the nature of the compounds responsible for the antimicrobial activity. Notably, BAL16 exhibited significant growth inhibition against multidrug-resistant E. faecium . Synergy tests highlighted its combined activity with tetracycline through FICI and surface analysis and bioinformatic analysis unveiled the protein fraction containing bacteriocins as the underlying mechanism. This study highlights BAL16 fermentation products potential as valuable antimicrobial agents against MDR E. faecium infections, attributed to bacteriocins. Further in-depth studies are necessary for complete bacteriocin characterization.

Climate change impacts on forest trees will be particularly severe for relict species endemic to the subalpine forest, such as Pinus cembra in the Alps and Carpathians. Most current knowledge about the response of this species to climate comes from tree-ring width analysis. However, this approach cannot perform in-depth and highly time-resolved analysis on the climate influence on specific growth processes and xylem functions. We analyzed xylem anatomical traits from six sites covering most of the longitudinal range of this species. Associations between climate and cell number, lumen area and cell wall thickness were computed for the 1920-2010 period using climate records aligned to degree-day temperature sum thresholds. The anatomical chronologies were clearly distinct between the Alps and Carpathians. However, climate responses were similar for all sites, suggesting common species-specific response mechanisms. Temperature showed a positive correlation with both cell number and cell wall thickness. Cell lumen size exhibited an early positive association, followed by strong negative association with temperature and a positive one with precipitation. This highlights that the cell enlargement process was negatively related to high temperature at high elevation, where meristematic processes are rather supposed to be constrained by low temperatures. Therefore, long-term climate warming can have negative consequences on the xylem potential to transport water at all investigated sites. Moreover, in the last 30 years, we observed a slight anticipation of some responses and a decrease in climate sensitivity of some xylem parameters. Our findings provide evidence of temporally unstable but spatially consistent climate response of Pinus cembra from the Alps to the Carpathians. The application of pyrethroids and carbamates represents an environmental risk and may exert adverse effects on beneficial microorganisms such as Trichoderma, which contribute to the biocontrol of several fungal phytopathogens. This research evaluated the tolerance of several strains of Trichoderma to a selected culture medium contaminated with a commercial insecticide (H24®) composed of pyrethroids, permethrin and prallethrin, and carbamate propoxur, and determined the influence of this insecticide on the release of enzymes such as chitinases, peroxidases, and endoglucanases by a consortium of selected Trichoderma strains grown in liquid culture medium. Four out of 10 Trichoderma strains showed tolerance to 200ppm (∼48.3% of growth) of the commercial insecticide after 96h of exposure to a contaminated solid medium. After eight days of growth in liquid culture, the insecticide enhanced extracellular protein content and peroxidase activities in the Trichoderma consortium but decreased both chitinase and glucanase activities. The microbiota in humans and animals play crucial roles in defense against pathogens and offer a promising natural source for immunomodulatory products. However, the development of physiologically relevant model systems and protocols for testing such products remains challenging. In this study, we present an experimental condition where various natural products derived from the registered lactic acid bacteria Ligilactobacillus salivarius CECT 9609, known for their immunomodulatory activity, were tested. These products included live and inactivated bacteria, as well as fermentation products at different concentrations and culture times. Using our established model system, we observed no morphological changes in the airway epithelium upon exposure to Pasteurella multocida, a common respiratory pathogen. However, early molecular changes associated with the innate immune response were detected through transcript analysis. By employing diverse methodologies ranging from microscopy to next-generation sequencing (NGS), we characterized the interaction of these natural products with the airway epithelium and their potential beneficial effects in the presence of P. multocida infection. In particular, our discovery highlights that among all Ligilactobacillus salivarius CECT 9609 products tested, only inactivated cells preserve the conformation and morphology of respiratory epithelial cells, while also reversing or altering the natural immune responses triggered by Pasteurella multocida. Primary production in terrestrial ecosystems is sustained by plants, microbiota, and fungi, which are the major organic matter providers in the root zone, setting in motion the soil food webs. Predators like soil amoebae voraciously feed on bacteria, fungi, and microbial eukaryotes releasing the nutrients sequestered in their biomass. Early food web setting up is crucial for seedling nutrition and its further development after establishment. Mycorrhizal fungi are more than phosphorus providers, and we wonder what their role is in structuring the predators' trophic groups in the root zone. We evaluated the effect of Rhizophagus intraradices inoculated in Zea mays (mycorrhizosphere), on the structuration of amoebae trophic groups along vertical and horizontal (3, 6, and 9 cm) soil distribution when compared to un-inoculated plants, after 20 days in microcosms. Amoebae species richness was highest in non-mycorrhizal seedlings in the root zone at 6- to 9-cm depth, and 3 cm away from plants. More bacterial species are needed when plants are devoid of mycorrhiza, and their influence is constrained 3 cm away from roots. Higher diversity of trophic groups was recorded at mycorrhizal seedlings and at the compartment influenced by the mycelium at 6- to 9-cm depth. The highest bacterivorous diversity, higher number of rare species and protozoa-eating amoebae, and the absence of fungivorous group recorded at the mycorrhizosphere of Z. mays, indicate that the community was very different from the non-mycorrhizal plants. The negative impacts of ocean warming and acidification on bivalve fisheries are well documented but few studies investigate parameters relevant to energy budgets and larval dispersal. This study used laboratory experiments to assess developmental, physiological and behavioral responses to projected climate change scenarios using larval Atlantic surfclams Spisula solidissima solidissima, found in northwest Atlantic Ocean continental shelf waters. Ocean warming increased feeding, scope for growth, and biomineralization, but decreased swimming speed and pelagic larval duration. Ocean acidification increased respiration but reduced immune performance and biomineralization. Growth increased under ocean warming only, but decreased under combined ocean warming and acidification. These results suggest that ocean warming increases metabolic activity and affects larval behavior, while ocean acidification negatively impacts development and physiology. Objective: To evaluate the enzymatic and biocontrol capacity of native Trichoderma strains isolated from corn crops in Irapuato (state of Guanajuato) and Napízaro (state of Michoacán), Mexico., Results: Six native strains from Irapuato and Napízaro were tested, with five of them identified as T. harzianum and one as T. tomentosum. The six strains qualitatively and quantitatively showed enzyme activity for cellulase and chitinase. The best results were obtained for strains IrV6SIC7 and MichV6S2C2 with 878 IU L -1 of chitinase and 1323 IU L -1 of cellulase, respectively. All Trichoderma strains acted antagonistically toward Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense race 1 (FocR1), with percentages of inhibition that ranged from 9 to 54%. In addition, the microscopic analysis allowed visualizing the mechanisms of mycoparasitism and antibiosis by either IrV6SIC7 or MichV6S2C2. The latter effects indicate that the tested native Trichoderma strains isolated from corn crops possessed enzymatic mechanisms as a strategy for biocontrolling FocR1 strains., Conclusion: The enzyme production by the Trichoderma strains represents a potential biotechnological utilization for either agricultural or industrial purposes., (© 2023. This study evaluated the effect of the application of mineral fertilization (F), the anionic surfactant Triton X-100 (TX100), or the inoculation with a hydrocarbooclastic bacterial consortium (BCons) on the growth of Clitoria ternatea during the phytoremediation of a Gleysol contaminated with weathered petroleum hydrocarbons (39,000 mg kg -1 WPH) collected from La Venta, Tabasco (Mexico). The experiment consisted of a completely randomized design with seven treatments and four replications each under greenhouse conditions. The application of F (biostimulation) increased plant growth and biomass production; in contrast, TX100 only favored root biomass (11%) but significantly favored WPH degradation. Bioaugmentation with BCons did not show significant effects on plant growth. Nevertheless, the combination of biostimulation with bioaugmentation (BCons + F, BCons + TX100, and BCons + F+TX100) enhanced plant growth, hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria population, and WPH degradation when compared to treatments with the single application of bioaugmentation (BCons) or biostimulation (F).
