Burnout is a widespread issue among physicians, including radiologists and radiology trainees. Long hours, isolation, and substantial stress levels contribute to healthcare workers experiencing a substantially higher rate of burnout compared with other professionals. Resident physicians, continuously exposed to stressors such as new clinical situations and performance feedback, are particularly susceptible. Mentorship has proven to be an effective strategy in mitigating burnout. Various mentorship delivery models exist, all aiming to have mentors serve as role models to mentees, thereby alleviating stress and anxiety. Physician groups and healthcare enterprises have actively implemented these programs, recognizing them as both successful and cost-effective. This article explores different mentorship models, their implementation processes, and the effectiveness of these programs as a standard component of academic departments.

Since the 2019 worldwide pandemic, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 responsible for COVID-19 disease, not only had global economic repercussions but millions of individuals health were also put at risk. Like any other respiratory illness, COVID-19 has a variety of presentations and radiological features. While COVID-19 infections in the pediatric population generally present with better prognosis and lower mortality rates when compared to those of adults, in the vulnerable populations however, severe presentations are often more frequent and can have catastrophic consequences. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is responsible for the debilitating global pandemic known as Coronavirus disease (COVID-19). In this paper, we highlight the widespread manifestations and complications across disease systems. The COVID-19 pandemic had major effects on radiology training programs throughout the country. Many of the challenges were shared, with some variation depending on the size and geographic location of each program. While some initial modifications, such as platoon-type scheduling and redeployment, have been abandoned, other changes such as home workstations and the option of remote conferences have become more permanently incorporated. Remote learning tools and virtual teaching are much more frequently used, although there is emphasis by many programs on preserving in-person training. This article reviews current medical literature to assess the benefits and drawbacks of virtual interviews for radiology residencies as well as the downstream effects of these changes, best practices, and potential future recruitment methods. Topics covered include the effects of remote recruitment in promoting accessibility and applicant diversity and equality as well as fiscal, environmental, and time savings in combination with technical challenges, the complications of over application, challenges in assessment of program culture and location, impact on morale, and hidden financial and emotional costs. The incidence of burnout among radiologists has been increasing exponentially, largely attributed to increased work volumes, expectations for more rapid turn-around times and decreasing interpersonal interactions. While personal wellness activities have been described in the literature, there is little information on the role of cognitive behavioral therapy strategies to mitigate burnout. Prompt diagnosis of pulmonary embolism is essential to avert morbidity and mortality. There are a number of diagnostic options for identification of a pulmonary embolism, including laboratory and imaging investigations. While computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) has largely supplanted nuclear medicine ventilation/perfusion studies, there remain significant limitations in the optimal performance of CTPA. A strong faculty development program is crucial to recruit, support, and advance early-career faculty members in order to achieve and sustain an exceptional and diverse medical community. There has been increasing appreciation for the importance of fostering intrapersonal "soft-skills" such as leadership, mentorship, resilience, adaptability, and emotional intelligence. These skills allow an individual to better interact with others and their environment, and can facilitate teamwork, time management, decision-making, and conflict resolution. The development of these skills is an ongoing process that is cumulative in nature, and generalizable to any career phase or field of medicine. Rationale and Objectives: The purpose of this manuscript is to elucidate the prevalence, characteristics, outcomes, and perceptions of Alliance of Directors and Vice Chairs of Education in Radiology (ADVICER) members on Clinician Educator Leadership Pathway (CELP) tracks in diagnostic and interventional radiology residency programs in the United States., Materials and Methods: IRB exemption was obtained for this study. A 17-question anonymous survey was administered to the ADVICER members, an Association of University Radiologists (AUR) affiliate group, via email once, and then as a reminder 14 days later. Statistical analysis occurred via built-in analytics of the survey vendor, SurveyMonkey., Results: Thirty five of 72 ADVICER members (48.6%) responded to the survey. 45.7% (16/35) respondents indicated the presence of leadership or specialty pathways in their respective residencies. 28.6% of respondents indicated a CELP (10/35) in their residency programs. 92.0% of respondents endorsed CELP as preparatory for an academic career, and 93.6% endorsed development of a national CELP curriculum., Conclusion: The majority of radiology residency programs do not have a CELP in their training curriculum. Hepatobiliary infections account for a small but clinically important proportion of emergency department presentations. They present a clinical challenge due to the broad range of imaging characteristics on presentation. Recognition of complications is imperative to drive appropriate patient care and resource utilization to avoid diagnostic pitfalls and avert adverse patient outcomes. A thorough understanding of anatomy infectious pathology of hepatobiliary system is essential in the emergency setting to confidently diagnose and guide medical intervention. Many presentations of hepatobiliary infection have characteristic imaging features on individual imaging modalities with others requiring the assimilation of findings of multiple imaging modalities along with incorporating the clinical context and multispecialist consultation. We present the case of unilateral nonhemorrhagic adrenal infarct in a 29-week pregnant 21-year-old woman. The patient presented with right upper quadrant pain, nausea, and vomiting. Ultrasonography of the right upper quadrant and appendix was negative for pathology. Magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen demonstrated a right nonhemorrhagic adrenal infarct, subsequently confirmed with limited computed tomography of the upper abdomen. This case discusses the clinical presentation and pertinent imaging findings of adrenal infarction in pregnancy.

In the setting of blunt trauma, the rapid assessment of internal injuries is essential to prevent potentially fatal outcomes. Computed tomography is a useful diagnostic tool for both screening and diagnosis. In addition to trauma, acute chest syndromes often warrant emergent computed tomographic angiography, looking for etiologies such as aortic aneurysms or complications of aortic aneurysms, or both, pulmonary emboli, as well as other acute vascular process like aortic dissection and Takayasu aortitis. Male pelvic emergencies are uncommon, and symptoms typically include scrotal pain, scrotal enlargement, or a palpable scrotal mass or all of these. Ultrasound is often the first-line modality for evaluation of male pelvic emergencies, which may be stratified into vascular, infectious, or traumatic causes. Entities such as testicular torsion, Fournier gangrene, and testicular dislocation are surgical emergencies and should not be missed or misdiagnosed, as this may cause a significant delay in urgently necessary treatment. We present a case of ovarian torsion in pregnancy with demonstration of vascular flow on sequential Doppler ultrasonography. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated ovarian enlargement and edema. Mild symptoms and low clinical suspicion, in addition to risks associated with pregnancy prevented early laparoscopic examination, though torsion was considered. Progressive ovarian enlargement supported surgical intervention, which confirmed the presence of torsion. This case report reviews multimodality imaging characteristics of ovarian torsion, re-emphasizing the significance of ovarian morphology.
