In recent years, the increasing life expectancy of the world’s population, due to increased availability of prescribed medication, quality of health care services, quantity of health care institutions and quality of life, combined with a sharp decrease in birth rates over time, has proven to be a challenging problem for governments worldwide (particularly in developed countries). Both of these factors put at risk the sustainability of state-funded welfare programs (e.g., social security) and also lead to a decrease in available workforce and tax revenue (including social benefit contributions) in the near future. With the tendency for these problems to worsen in the next decades (severity varies between countries), it is of paramount importance to estimate the extension of human life in order to analyse the severity of this phenomenon. Stochastic differential equations have been used recently to model the evolution of death rates. In fact, such models have some advantages when compared to the deterministic ones since we can input random environmental fluctuations and evaluate the uncertainty in forecasts. There are two species of redfish in Divisions 3L and 3N, the deep-sea redfish (Sebastes mentella) and the Acadian redfish (Sebastes fasciatus) that have been commercially fished and reported collectively as redfish in fishery statistics. Both species, occurring on Div. 3LN and managed as a single stock, don’t belong to isolated local populations but, on the contrary, are part of a large Northwest Atlantic complex ranging from the Gulf of Maine to south of Baffin Island. The ASPIC assessment of this stock is based on the logistic form of a non-equilibrium surplus production model (Schaeffer, 1954; Prager, 1994), adjusted to a standardized commercial catch rate series (Power, 1997) and to all stratified-random bottom trawl surveys conducted in various years and seasons in Div. 3L and Div. 3N from 1978 onwards. Both CPUE and surveys were used with all observations within each series. The 2020 assessment proceed on the threshold of the new 2014 approach, with MSY fixed at 1960- 1985 average catch and the rest of the approved 2014 assessment framework updated. ASPIC results present a stock stable from the 1960’s to the first half of the 1980’s while sustaining an average yield of 21 000t. Stock declined with a sudden rise of the catch over the late 1980’s first half of the 1990’s, and started to gradually recover after catches fell to a residual level in response to stock collapse. The maximum observed sustainable yield (MSY) of 21 000 t is linked to a Fmsy at 0.11/year and a Bmsy at 185 000 t. There is a high probability (>90%) that the stock was at least 38% above Bmsy at the beginning of 2020, after crossing 2019 under a fishing mortality not higher than 46% Fmsy.

A escolha deste tema para a realização deste relatório de estágio surgiu, não só do meu interesse pessoal pelos Benefícios Fiscais, assim como da necessidade de criar um documento que demonstrá-se a utilização de certos benefícios fiscais por parte das empresas portuguesas. A empresa acolhedora do estágio foi a Assis Business Partners, Lda, uma empresa situada em Coimbra, cuja principal atividade é a prestação de serviços de contabilidade e consultoria. O estágio curricular decorreu desde novembro de 2018 até maio de 2019, tendo tido como principal objetivo o tratamento e análise dos benefícios fiscais ao dispor dos clientes da Assis^. O seguinte relatório de estágio tem como finalidade não só descrever as tarefas desenvolvidas ao longo do estágio curricular, mas também apresentar os vários benefícios fiscais utilizados pelos clientes da Assis^, acompanhando os mesmos com um enquadramento teórico. Neste capítulo irão ser apresentadas, para além das regras e descrição dos benefícios fiscais retratados, as suas condições de enquadramento e as suas consequências caso o sujeito passivo enquadrado não cumpra com as suas obrigações.

The 3M redfish assessment is focused on the beaked redfish, regarded as a management unit composed of two populations from two very similar species: the Flemish Cap S. mentella and S. fasciatus. The reason for this approach is the historical dominance of this group in the 3M redfish commercial catch until 2005. However a new golden redfish fishery (S. marinus) started on September 2005 on shallower depths of the Flemish Cap bank above 300m, and the Flemish Cap cod fishery reopened in 2010. These new realities implied a revision of catch estimates, in order to split recent redfish commercial catch and by-catch from the major fleets on Div. 3M into golden (S. marinus) and beaked (S. mentella and S. fasciatus) redfish catches. The Extended Survivor Analysis assessment used as tuning file the 1989-2014 EU survey abundance at age matrix included in a revised input framework. Continuing pressure over Flemish Cap redfish stocks by cod predation, at levels higher, or much higher, than the levels prior to 2006 lead to higher natural mortalities since then. Natural mortality have been tuned to survey at age data 2006 onwards by the sensitivity analysis preceding each assessment, and on 2013-2104 has a best estimate at slightly higher level from previous years. A 2015-2011 retrospective XSA was carried out, confirming that the present assessment is very much in line with their immediate predecessors.

Mestrado Bolonha em Mathematical Finance Harvesting is a primary and fundamental activity impacting either on human society as a food supplier and on the environments as a resource consumer. An equilibrium is required to keep environments healthy and the activity attractive. Harvesting policies must aim to achieve an equilibrium through the application of a sustainable quote driven by the effort. Effort, in the fishing case, is the action plan measured by the number of vessels, number of workers, hours spent on sea, among other factors, which impose low flexibility to organisations due to heavy costs associated with a constantly changing effort. Hence, highly volatile effort policies are inapplicable but used to guide profit for comparison purposes. This project is related to the obtention of an optimal variable effort through the numerical solution of a non-linear Partial Differential Equation. Optimal variable effort leads to high profits, setted as reference, and used to study the feasibility of different strategies by comparing the outputs. A penalised effort strategy was applied to find and evaluate effort’s new behaviour and associated profit, comparing these values with the reference. Impact on profit depends on a strength parameter, ε, that penalises high effort changes. The higher (lower) the value of ε, the higher (lower) the impact on effort and, consequently, the lower (higher) the profit. Penalised effort does not oscillates as sharply as the non-penalised, verifying a reduction on oscillations’ magnitude but remaining constantly adjustments on effort. Penalised effort removes social issues imposed by low or null efforts, leaving the logistic problem from frequent oscillations to be partially solved. These tasks are studied on a research project that uses these results for further comparisons and conclusions. As atividades do setor primário são críticas, impactando na sociedade quer pela sua função de fornecedor de alimentos, quer pelas consequências da sua atividade enquanto consumidor de recursos dos meios em que operam. O equilíbrio é fundamental para manter os ambientes saudáveis e as atividades atrativas. Políticas de captura devem procurar atingir o equilíbrio através da aplicação de quotas sustentáveis guiadas pelo esforço. No caso da pesca, o esforço é medido em número de embarcações, número de trabalhadores, horas passadas no mar, entre outros factores, que impõem baixa flexibilidade a organizações com elevados custos associados com a alteração constante do nível de esforço. Uma política com alta taxa de volatilidade associada é inaplicável, mas os valores de lucro são utilizados para comparação de políticas. Este projeto está relacionado com a obtenção de políticas ótimas de esforço variável através da resolução numérica de uma equação às derivadas parciais não linear. O esforço ótimo variável conduz ao lucro mais elevado dadas as restrições, que é considerado a referência no estudo da viabilidade das diferentes estratégias. Estratégias de esforço penalizadas foram aplicadas com o objetivo de encontrar e avaliar o comportamento do esforço a estas inerente, comparando-o com os valores de referência. O impacto no lucro depende do parâmetro ε, que penaliza grandes variações de esforço. Quanto maior (menor) o valor de ε, maior (menor) o impacto no esforço e, por consequência, menor (maior) o lucro. O esforço penalizado não oscila tanto quanto o não penalizado, verificando-se uma redução na magnitude da oscilação, mantendo-se os ajustes frequentes. O esforço penalizado remove os problemas sociais causados por períodos de baixo ou nulo esforço, não resolvendo integralmente o problema logístico gerado pelos frequentes ajustes. With the tendency for these problems to worsen in the next decades, it is of paramount importance to estimate the extension of human life in order to analyse the severity of this phenomena. Stochastic differential equations have been used recently to model the evolution of death rates. In fact, such models have some advantages compared to the deterministic ones since we can input random environmental fluctuations and evaluate the uncertainty in forecasts. Instead of the usual cohort analysis, we propose a cross-sectional analysis of mortality by applying stochastic differential equations models, which we wish to model to the Portuguese population, describing death rates trends for all ages and for both genders. The main goal of this work is to apply and compare stochastic differential equations death rates models (Geometric Brownian motion, Stochastic Gompertz model) separately for each age and gender with independent standard Wiener processes and forecast Portuguese death rates until the year 2030. Nos últimos anos, o aumento da esperança média de vida da população mundial (que é habitualmente observada em países de primeiro mundo), devido ao aumento do acesso a medicamentos com receita médica, qualidade dos serviços relacionados com cuidados de saúde e quantidade de instituições de saúde, em conjunto com um forte decréscimo registado nas taxas de natalidade ao longo do tempo provou ser um problema desafiante para governos de todo o mundo. Estes fatores colocam em risco a sustentabilidade dos programas de assistência social financiados pelo Estado (como por exemplo a segurança social) e podem causar uma descida na produtividade, mão-de obra disponível e receita fiscal no futuro próximo. Com a tendência destes problemas agravarem-se nas próximas décadas, é da maior importância estimar o prolongamento da vida humana com a finalidade de analisar a gravidade dos fenómenos referidos. As equações diferenciais estocásticas têm vindo a ser usadas recentemente para modelar a evolução de taxas de mortalidade. De facto, este tipo de modelos apresentam algumas vantagens quando comparados aos modelos determinísticos, visto que podemos introduzir flutuações ambientais aleatórias e avaliar a incerteza nas previsões. Em vez da habitual análise por coorte, propomos uma análise transversal da mortalidade através da aplicação de modelos de equações diferenciais estocásticas, que desejamos modelar para a população portuguesa, descrevendo as tendências das taxas de mortalidade para todas as idades e para ambos os géneros. Mestrado em Mathematical Finance O crédito hipotecário abrange créditos destinados à aquisição, construção, arrendamento e/ou manutenção de habitação. O modelo de scoring permite distinguir os bons e maus créditos, através do perfil de risco dos clientes, seguindo-se a decisão de conceder ou não crédito. O objetivo deste trabalho foi desenvolver um processo de monitorização aplicado ao modelo de scoring de crédito hipotecário para concessão da Caixa Geral de Depósitos. O propósito desta monitorização é verificar se o modelo, implementado em junho de 2018, mantém uma boa capacidade preditiva. Em particular, pretende-se verificar a fiabilidade do modelo, as suas características discriminantes, a sua performance, entre outros. Adicionalmente, esta monitorização tem como objetivo realizar atualizações no modelo e, em casos extremos, o desenvolvimento de um novo modelo. Mortgage credit includes credits for the purchase, construction, lease and/or house maintenance. The scoring model makes it possible to distinguish between the good and bad credits, through the risk profile of customers, and then make the decision on whether grant or not grant credit. The objective of this work was to develop a monitoring process applied to the mortgage credit scoring model for the granting of Caixa Geral de Depósitos. The purpose of this monitoring is to verify whether the model, implemented in June 2018, maintains a good predictive capacity. In particular, it is intended to verify the model's reliability, its discriminating characteristics and its performance, among others.
