The global biodiversity crisis due to anthropogenic pressures jeopardizes marine ecosystems functioning and services. Community responses to these environmental changes can be assessed through functional diversity, a biodiversity component related to organism-environment interactions, estimated through biological traits related to organism functions (locomotion, feeding mode, reproduction). Fishes play a key role in marine systems functioning and supply proteins for billions of humans worldwide, yet most of the knowledge is limited to several commercial species and little is known about the intraspecific variability of their functional traits. The data provided here consists of 867 records of individuals from 85 species of ray-finned (Actinopterygii) and cartilaginous (Chondrichthyes) fishes sampled in the Bay of Biscay (Atlantic, France) between autumn 2017 and 2019. We provided for each individual the taxonomic classification, 16 ecomorphological measures (5 directly made on fresh individuals and 11 realized using individual pictures), that were converted into 9 ecomorphological traits classically documented in the literature (biomass, protrusion, oral gape shape, surface and position, eye size and position, body transversal shape and surface, pectoral fin position and caudal peduncle throttling) and 8 life history traits obtained from Fishbase (maximum length, average depth, depth range, trophic level, reproduction mode, fertilization mode, parental care, vertical position in the water column). These traits document several functions such as dispersion, feeding mode, habitat use, position in the food web, and reproduction. To improve the development of new traits, we provided a picture of each individual with an ROI file containing the different morpho-anatomical measures made using “ImageJ” software and an R function to extract them. A large number of studies on common sole have already been done for years by many research laboratories. This study sought to make a focus on a major nursery on the Atlantic coast, the Pertuis charentais, through the results of eight annual surveys (2005-2012) in late summer (SOLe PERtuis) targeting sole juveniles with a small beam trawl until subtidal zone (<1.50 m). Some of the results obtained in this report confirm previous studies, such as, among others, that more than 80% YOY (G0) occupy muddy or sandy mud bottom at a depth less than 5 m, or that there is a relative correlation between large rainfall in the spring, river flows and abundance of G0 in nursery. However in the Pertuis Breton this correlation is little expressed by an extension of the colonized area by G0, but rather by a strong increase in density in coastal and subtidal zone, zone usually little explored, due to the shallow depth, not accessible to fishing vessels. The small trawl mesh (8 mm stretched) and access to these shallow sectors have sometimes permitted the capture of a significant proportion of juveniles that had an average size below the selectivity of trawls used in other surveys where this abundance were able to pass virtually unnoticed. Moreover, the abundance of juvenile group 0 in 2007 was followed the next two years for groups 1 and 2; this has help predict the arrival of this large cohort available to the fishery after recruitment. It was also observed when the G0 were very small in size, a compensation phenomenon of size between the first and second year of life, which allowed the G1 to reach a ‘normal’ size. Finally, assuming a correlation between high abundance / density and a G0 low condition index, there seem exist high abundance cycle opportunities of for many consecutives years but adverse summer environmental conditions reduce the potential annual cohort by a large mortality. Cette étude s’est attachée à faire un focus sur l’une des principales nourriceries de la façade Atlantique, les Pertuis charentais, au travers des résultats de huit campagnes de pêche annuelles (2005-2012) de fin d’été (SOLe PERtuis) ciblant les juvéniles de sole à l’aide d’un petit chalut à perche, de la zone subtidale jusqu’au proche infralittoral (< 1,50 m). Quelques uns des résultats obtenus au cours de ce bilan confirment des constatations antérieures, comme, entre autres, que plus de 80 % des juvéniles de l’année (G0) occupent des fonds vaseux ou sablo-vaseux, à une profondeur inférieure à 5 m, ou bien qu’il existe une relative corrélation entre pluviométries importantes au printemps, débits des fleuves et fortes abondances des G0 sur les nourriceries. Cependant dans le pertuis Breton cette corrélation ne se traduit pas, sur le plan géographique, par une extension de la zone colonisée par les G0, mais plutôt par une forte augmentation de la densité en zone littorale et subtidale, zone peu explorée habituellement à cause d’une profondeur trop faible et non accessible à des navires de pêche. Le petit maillage du chalut (8 mm étiré) et l’accès à ces secteurs peu profonds ont permis de capturer parfois une fraction importante des juvéniles qui présentaient une taille moyenne inférieure à la sélectivité de chaluts utilisés lors d’autres campagnes pour lesquelles de fortes abondances ont pu passer pratiquement inaperçu. Par ailleurs, l’abondance de juvéniles du groupe 0 en 2007 a pu être encore suivie les deux années suivantes en groupe 1 et 2, ce qui a permis de prévoir l’arrivée de cette cohorte importante accessible à la pêche, après le recrutement. Il a aussi été observé, quand les G0 étaient de petites tailles, un phénomène de compensation de taille entre la première et la deuxième année de vie, qui a permis aux G1 de rattraper une taille moyenne «
