- Abstract
Pig production occupies an important place in modern agriculture. Piglets are far less demanding on nutrients as compared to poultry. The experiment was conducted to know the effect of feeding organic and inorganic sources of additional zinc on growth incidences of gut microbial status in piglets. Sixty graded (Large White Yorkshire) suckling piglets were randomly divided into three treatment groups of twenty piglets each based on litter size, parity and live birth weight. Treatment I (T1) served as control and these piglets were fed with deionized water daily as oral suspension. Treatment II (T2) and Treatment III (T3) were fed with fed Zinc Oxide (ZnO) and Zinc Methionine (ZnM) daily (50 ppm) as oral suspension. The results of the experiment showed that the incidence of mortality in control (T1), zinc oxide (T2) and zinc methionine (T3) groups were 10, 5 and 0 per cent, respectively. Statistical analysis revealed that there was no significant difference between control (T1), zinc oxide (T2) and zinc methionine (T3) groups. Based on the results of the current experiment and the reports available, the importance of supplementation of zinc oxide at higher than the recommended dosage may be considered for maintaining the proper growth, health and production status of piglets.

AUDIOMETRY ,HEARING disorders ,TERTIARY care ,CHI-squared test ,STATISTICAL hypothesis testing - Abstract
Context: There is a need for a quick reliable home test for detecting hearing loss (HL), especially in the present era of telemedicine. Hum test is one such which can be performed easily without instruments but not much documented in the literature. Aims: The aim is to find out the diagnostic accuracy of hum test in detecting unilateral HL. Settings and Design: Tertiary healthcare center, prospective, cross-sectional diagnostic test accuracy study. Subjects and Methods: The study included 85 controls and 85 patients with unilateral conductive or sensorineural HL (SNHL). The patients were divided into four groups-controls, simulated unilateral conductive HL (CHL) subjects, unilateral CHL, and SNHL patients. They underwent 4 tests-Weber test, Low pitch hum test, High pitch hum test, and pure-tone audiometry (PTA), the latter being the gold standard. Statistical Analysis Used: To test the statistical significance of the agreement between the hum test and the Weber test with PTA, McNemar's Chi-square test was used. Diagnostic measures such as sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy were computed. Results: The sensitivity (85%) and accuracy (95.2%) of Hum test were better in comparison to Weber test (70% and 88.8% respectively) in unilateral sensorineural patients. However, in the case of CHL the Weber test was more sensitive in comparison with hum test (95.6% and 83.35% respectively). Overall, the diagnostic accuracy of hum test was 92.5% when compared to the Weber test (93.5%). Conclusions: Hum test can be used as a reliable screening tool for suspected sudden HL cases. - Abstract
Contains fulltext : 205528.pdf (publisher's version ) (Closed access), Two percent of patients with Wilms tumors have a positive family history. In many of these cases the genetic cause remains unresolved. By applying germline exome sequencing in two families with two affected individuals with Wilms tumors, we identified truncating mutations in TRIM28. Subsequent mutational screening of germline and tumor DNA of 269 children affected by Wilms tumor was performed, and revealed seven additional individuals with germline truncating mutations, and one individual with a somatic truncating mutation in TRIM28. TRIM28 encodes a complex scaffold protein involved in many different processes, including gene silencing, DNA repair and maintenance of genomic integrity. Expression studies on mRNA and protein level showed reduction of TRIM28, confirming a loss-of-function effect of the mutations identified. The tumors showed an epithelial-type histology that stained negative for TRIM28 by immunohistochemistry. The tumors were bilateral in six patients, and 10/11 tumors are accompanied by perilobar nephrogenic rests. Exome sequencing on eight tumor DNA samples from six individuals showed loss-of-heterozygosity (LOH) of the TRIM28-locus by mitotic recombination in seven tumors, suggesting that TRIM28 functions as a tumor suppressor gene in Wilms tumor development. Additionally, the tumors showed very few mutations in known Wilms tumor driver genes, suggesting that loss of TRIM28 is the main driver of tumorigenesis. In conclusion, we identified heterozygous germline truncating mutations in TRIM28 in 11 children with mainly epithelial-type Wilms tumors, which become homozygous in tumor tissue. These data establish TRIM28 as a novel Wilms tumor predisposition gene, acting as a tumor suppressor gene by LOH.

Abstract Background The present study is based on the necrophagous fly samples collected from 24 medico-legal cases between the year 2011 and 2018 in Tamil Nadu State, India. The fly life stages were identified based on morphological features. Pre-autopsy condition of the human corpse colonized by necrophagous flies and indoor/outdoor occurrence of the flies were recorded. Results Chrysomya megacephala, Chrysomya rufifacies, Sarcophaga spp, and Musca domestica life stages were collected from the human corpses. Chrysomya megacephala was the most prevalent (70.8%) insects of forensic importance and found both in indoor and outdoor environments. Drowned and burnt human corpses were found to be only colonized by C. megacephala. Chrysomya rufifacies was found only in outdoor environments and Sarcophaga spp was found only in indoor environment. There was a fair agreement between the percentage occurrence of necrophagous flies in human corpse in the present study in Tamil Nadu State and percentage historical occurrence of necrophagous flies in human corpse in India. Conclusions Chrysomya megacephala was the predominant blowfly species found to colonize corpses in Tamil Nadu State, India. Chrysomya megacephala was the only blowfly species found to colonize both burnt and floating corpses and corpses located indoor and outdoor.

BACKGROUND: Few data are available regarding the use of antithrombotic strategies in coronary artery disease patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) in everyday practice. We sought to describe the prevalence of AF and its antithrombotic management in a contemporary population of patients with stable coronary artery disease.METHODS AND FINDINGS: CLARIFY is an international, prospective, longitudinal registry of outpatients with stable coronary artery disease, defined as prior (≥12 months) myocardial infarction, revascularization procedure, coronary stenosis >50%, or chest pain associated with evidence of myocardial ischemia. Overall, 33,428 patients were screened, of whom 32,954 had data available for analysis at baseline; of these 2,229 (6.7%) had a history of AF. Median (interquartile range) CHA2DS2-VASc score was 4 (3, 5). Oral anticoagulation alone was used in 25.7%, antiplatelet therapy alone in 52.8% (single 41.8%, dual 11.0%), and both in 21.5%. OAC use was independently associated with permanent AF (pCONCLUSIONS: In this contemporary cohort of patients with stable coronary artery disease and AF, most of whom are theoretical candidates for anticoagulation, oral anticoagulants were used in only 47.2%. Half of the patients received antiplatelet therapy alone and one-fifth received both antiplatelets and oral anticoagulants. Efforts are needed to improve adherence to guidelines in these patients.TRIAL REGISTRATION: ISRCTN registry of clinical trials: ISRCTN43070564.

Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is the most common plasticizer used in polyvinyl chloride-based plastics. DEHP is not covalently bound to the plastics and is easily released to the environment, resulting in human exposure. In this study, the adult rats were exposed to DEHP and its effects on the uterus was evaluated. Healthy adult female rats were treated with DEHP orally (with dose level 0, 1, 10, and 100 mg/kg body weight/day) for 30 days. No significant changes in the body weight and wet uterine weight were observed. Ovarian hormones and their receptor levels in the uterus were increased. Histological studies exhibited the structural abnormalities such as decrease in diameter, thinning of the layers and disruption in the glandular epithelium. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities of 10 public sector and 10 private sector banks have been analyzed and their performances have been ranked based on 10 parameters. Data available on websites, in annual reports and sustainability CSR reports of all selected banks have been collected and studied. Among the public sector banks, State Bank of India and Indian Overseas Bank are the top performers, while among the private sector banks, ICICI Bank is the top performer. In the case of public sector banks, CSR activities are mostly carried out in the field of education, community welfare, financial inclusion and rural development. On the other hand, private sector banks are concentrating more on community welfare, education and rural development activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A novel attempt was made to encapsulate assembly pheromone of ticks in porous calcium alginate beads. The study was carried out using test beads containing assembly pheromone and acaricides and three control beads- plain alginate beads, pheromone control and acaricide control respectively. In-vitro trials were carried out by petridish bioassay and the unfed larvae, unfed nymph and unfed adult of Rhipicephalus sanguineus were utilized for the assay. Cent percent mortality was recorded with test beads amongst all the three unfed stages in in-vitro bioassay. Field trials were carried out in kennels with the test and control beads suspended in specially designed lures to assess their efficacy in attracting and killing pre-parasitic environmental stages of R. sanguineus.
