Abstract

Results of t production in Al foil monitors are presented. These foils have been irradiated by protons of different energies in a range of 0.04 - 2.6 GeV. The irradiations were carried out at the ITEP accelerator U-10 under the ISTC Project 3266 during 2006 - 2009. t has been extracted from Al foils using an A307 Sample Oxidizer. The values of the Al(p,x)t cross sections obtained in these experiments are compared with data measured at other laboratories and with results of simulations by the MCNP6 radiation transport code using the CEM03.03 event generator., Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, proc. 12th Int. Abstract

Due to potential level of energy intensity 178m2Hf is an extremely interesting isomer. One possible way to produce this isomer is irradiation of nat-Ta or nat-W samples with high energy protons. Irradiation of nat-Ta and nat-W samples performed for other purposes provides an opportunity to study the corresponding reactions. This paper pre-sents the 178m2Hf independent production cross sections for both targets measured by the gamma-ray spectrometry method. The reaction excitation functions have been obtained for the proton energies from 40 up to 2600 MeV. The experimental results were compared with calculations by various versions of the intranuclear cascade model in the well-known codes: ISABEL, Bertini, INCL4.5+ABLA07, PHITS, CASCADE07 and CEM03.02. The isomer ratio for the nat-Ta(p,x)178m2Hf reaction is evaluated on the basis of the available data., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures, 1 table, submitted to Phys. Rev. C

Abstract

AbstractThis paper presents the results of the experimental determination and computational simulation of the ambient dose equivalent rate for a metallic thorium cylindrical miniblock and the (n,2n), (n,f), and (n,γ) reaction rates in a thin 232Th metal foil irradiated with neutrons of the NG-24M generator spectrum. The ambient dose equivalent rate was determined by dosimeters-radiometers. The reaction rates were determined by the activation method using Ge spectrometers without destroying the irradiated samples. Computational simulations of ambient dose equivalent and reaction rates were performed, respectively, using the radiation transport codes PHITS, MCNP5, and KIR2, which use various nuclear data libraries: JEFF-3.2 and -3.3; JENDL4.0; ENDF/B-VII.0, -VII.1, and -VIII.0; ROSFOND; FENDL; and TENDL. The authors give an estimate of the 232U/233U relative accumulation upon natural thorium irradiation in a fusion facility blanket with defined neutron spectrum. The nonirradiated and irradiated thorium nuclide composition change simulation and visualization were performed using analytical solutions of an ordinary system of homogeneous linear differential equations describing nuclide transmutations.

Abstract

The problems of the metrological certification of beams of high-energy heavy charged particles (HCPs) and protons that will be used in the study—as well as testing for radiation resistance—of promising products of semiconductor micro- and nanoelectronics, solid-state microwave electronics, and micromechanical systems are considered. One of the main requirements for such beams is ensuring the desired range of linear energy transfer (LET). Two methods for changing the LET are considered, one of which is based on using the ions of various types (16O, 22Ne, 40Ar, 56Fe, 84Kr, 136Xe, 209Bi), and the other is based on using ion of the same type (197Au), but with different energies. The advantages of using both methods are considered and the problems arising when using the second method are analyzed. © 2019, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Abstract

The analysis of various non-destructive methods to control fissile materials (FM) in large-size containers filled with radioactive waste (RAW) has been carried out. The difficulty of applying passive gamma-neutron monitoring FM in large containers filled with concreted RAWis shown. Selection of an active non-destructive assay technique depends on the container contents; and in case of a concrete or iron matrix with very low activity and low activity RAW the neutron radiation method appears to be more preferable as compared with the photonuclear one. Abstract

The results of ³H production in Al foil monitors (~ 59 mg/cm² thickness) are presented. These foils have been irradiated in 15x15 mm polyethylene bags of ~ 14 mg/cm² thickness together with foils of Cr (~ 395 mg/cm² thickness) and 56Fe (~ 332 mg/cm² thickness) by protons of different energies in a range of 0.04 - 2.6 GeV. The diameters of all the foils were 10.5 mm. The irradiations were carried out at the ITEP accelerator U-10 under the ISTC Project # 3266 in 2006-2009. ³H has been extracted from Al foils using an A307 Sample Oxidizer. An ultra low level liquid scintillation spectrometer Quantu- lus1220 was used to measure the ³H β-spectra and the SpectraDec software package was applied for spectra processing, deconvolution and ³H activity determination. The values of the Al(p, x)³H reaction cross sections obtained in these experiments are compared with data measured at other labs and with results of simulations by the MCNP6 radiation transport code using the CEM03.03 event generator. Abstract

The paper is devoted to non-destructive control of tiny amounts of fissile materials in large-sized containers filled with radioactive waste (RAW). The aim of this work is to model an active neutron interrogation facility for detection of fissile materials inside NZK type containers with RAW and determine the minimal detectable mass of U-235 as a function of various parameters: matrix type, nonuniformity of container filling, neutron generator parameters (flux, pulse frequency, pulse duration), measurement time. As a result the dependence of minimal detectable mass on fissile materials location inside container is shown. Nonuniformity of the thermal neutron flux inside a container is the main reason of the space-heterogeneity of minimal detectable mass inside a large-sized container. Our experiments with tiny amounts of uranium-235 (<1 g) confirm the detection of fissile materials in NZK containers by using active neutron interrogation technique. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

22. Production cross sections of 102m Rh and 108m Ag in proton bombed nat Pb target with 400 MeV energy.

Abstract

The accelerator-driven subcritical system (ADS) is a competitive option for next-generation nuclear energy systems. Production cross sections of long-lived residual radioactive nuclides in a proton-nuclide reaction are basic quantities for the calculation of accumulated radioactivity in the use of ADS systems. This work presents the production cross sections of 102m Rh and 108m Ag in a natural lead ( nat Pb) target activated by 400 MeV protons. The nat Pb target was irradiated by a 400 MeV proton beam in NRC "Kurchatov Institute" and measured two decades later by a low background gamma spectrometer in China Jinping Underground Laboratory (CJPL). A spectrum analysis method based on simulated single-isotope spectrum and Bayesian peak fitting was employed to compute the activities and production cross sections of the residual nuclides. The experimentally measured cross-sections for 102m Rh and 108m Ag were 0.72 ± 0.05 mb and 0.76 ± 0.09 mb respectively. These values are approximately twice as high as those predicted by the QGSP&#95;INCLXX&#95;HP model and fall within the range predicted by the INCL4+ABLA and LAQGSM+GEM2 models for mass numbers A=102 and A=108.
