In this research, a new acceptance sampling plan for a truncated life test is presented, assuming that the quality characteristic follows the power Lomax distribution. The operating characteristic function values are calculated for the proposed sampling plan, jointly with the optimal sample size and the producer’s risk for a selection of distribution parameters. Furthermore, a comparative study with other sampling plans is introduced to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed plan. Finally, a real-life example illustrating the applicability of the proposed sampling plan in a manufacturing company is discussed.

In this paper, we proposed a new ranked data control chart using repetitive sampling criterion to increase the performance of detecting any shift in mean process. For the comparisons target, the average run length (ARL) of the proposed control chart based on repetitive extreme ranked set sampling computed using exact and estimated parameters. The results showed that the ARL affected negatively by the parameter estimation. Moreover, the performances of the proposed control chart is evaluated and compared with similar control chart that obtained by using different sampling schemes such as the simple random sampling, ranked set sampling, extreme ranked set sampling and repetitive ranked set sampling.. The results showed that the ranked data based control chart outperform the classical control chart in terms of the ARL.

Purpose Lifetime data are used in many different applied sciences, like biomedicine, engineering, insurance and finance and others. The purpose of this paper is to develop a new acceptance sampling plans for Rama distribution when the mean lifetime test is truncated at a pre-determined time. The minimum sample sizes required to assert the specified life mean is obtained for a given customer’s risk. The operating characteristic function values of the sampling plans and producer’s risk are calculated. Design/methodology/approach The results are illustrated using numerical examples and a real data set is considered to illustrate the performance of the suggested acceptance sampling plans and how it can be used for the industry applications. Findings This paper shows a new acceptance sampling plans based on Rama distribution in the particular case when the mean life time test is truncated. Originality/value The results calculated in this paper demonstrate the differences between OC values for different distributions taken into account. In particular, OC values of Rama distribution are found to be less than the proposed distribution counterparts.

This paper aims to represent that levels of customer satisfaction of tourist accommodation are an important prerequisite when the goal is building a loyal relationship with this type of facility. The research involved 239 participants (% 50 women) who have used tourist facilities during the last 2 years. The data used in the research were collected through the administration of a questionnaire: Prosumership Service Quality Model (PROSERV-Q). The methodology utilized to analyse data is the multi-group analysis based on Partial Least Squares Path Modelling (PLS-PM) with high order constructs. The results show that in the PROSERV model the level of global satisfaction affect the attitude of customer loyalty towards the tourism services.

Currently we are witnessing the revaluation of huge data recourses that should be analyzed carefully to draw the right decisions about the world problems. Such big data are statistically risky since we know that the data are combination of (useful) signals and (useless) noise, which considered as unorganized facts that need to be filtered and processed. Using the signals only and discarding the noise means that the data restructured and reorganized to be useful and it is called information. So for any data set, we need only the information. In context of information theory, the entropy is used as a statistical measure to quantify the maximum amount of information in a random event.

In December 2019, a cluster of fatal pneumonia cases presented in Wuhan, China. They were caused by a previously unknown coronavirus. All patients had been associated with the Wuhan Wholefood market, where seafood and live animals are sold. The virus spread rapidly and public health authorities in China initiated a containment effort. However, by that time, travelers had carried the virus to many countries, sparking memories of the previous coronavirus epidemics, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), and causing widespread media attention and panic. Based on clinical criteria and available serological and molecular information, the new disease was called coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19), and the novel coronavirus was called SARS Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), emphasizing its close relationship to the 2002 SARS virus (SARS-CoV). The scientific community raced to uncover the origin of the virus, understand the pathogenesis of the disease, develop treatment options, define the risk factors, and work on vaccine development. Here we present a summary of current knowledge regarding the novel coronavirus and the disease it causes.

In this article, a new fuzzy entropy measure of order α is proposed. The fuzzy entropy axiomatic requirements are discussed for the new measure, and an empirical comparison are made with several entropy measures including Shannon, Rényi and Kapur. It turns out, the proposed measure satisfies all axiomatic and outperform the other entropy measures in terms of the fuzziness degree.Â

Background: Blepharis constitutes an important part of the vegetation of the Jordanian arid and semi-arid regions, yet whether one or more species of this genus occurs in the Jordanian area is uncertain. We addressed this question by assessing morphological characters and testing Inter-Simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) markers from three populations of Blepharis: two northern (lower slopes of Kufranjah valley and the Dead Sea region) and one southern (Wadi al Yutm). Results: Shoots from randomly chosen Blepharis plants were harvested from each of the three populations for morphological and molecular analyses. In the northern populations, spikes were lax and bract width was significantly shorter than length of the longest lateral spine compared to the southern population. A multivariate linear discriminant analysis distinguished the northern populations from the southern one by internode length, bract width, longest lateral spine length, and bract width to spine length ratio. The ISSR analysis revealed that 44 markers across eight primers were polymorphic with major allele frequency of 83.6% and an average of 5.5 polymorphic markers per primer. The genetic resemblance among individuals ranged from 0.27 to 0.96. The three Blepharis populations were accordingly clustered into two distinct groups, similar to the analysis of morphological differences and corresponding with the “northern” and “southern” population designations. Conclusions: Our results strongly indicate the occurrence of two discrete Blepharis species in Jordan and reject the hypothesis that the genus is represented by only one species. We propose that the Blepharis species in Jordan are B. attenutata Napper (represented by the northern populations) and B. ciliaris (L.) B. L. Burtt (represented by the southern population). These findings are important for informing and revising floristic work within the region and an updated key has been included in our findings.

Khawar Ahmad started his poetic career in 1970’s and has published four books based on his poetic works So far. Like many poets, the basic theme of his poetry is ‘love’ and emotions related to it. Khawar’s uniqueness however, is that he discusses new aspects of a commonplace theme like ‘love’. In this article, it has been tried to bring new aspects of love as discussed by Khawar in his first poetic work.

A double acceptance sampling plan (DASP) based on truncated life tests is suggested in this paper when the lifetime of a product follows the exponentiated generalized inverse Rayleigh distribution (EGIR). For a fixed value of the consumer’s confidence level, the minimum sample sizes of the first and second samples needed to ensure the specified mean life are obtained. The operating characteristic values according to the different quality levels are obtained and the minimum ratios of the mean life to the specified life are calculated. The important tables based on the suggested DASP are calculated and illustrated.

This paper studies estimation of the parameters of the generalized Gompertz distribution based on ranked-set sample (RSS). Maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian approaches are considered. Approximate confidence intervals for the unknown parameters are constructed using both the normal approximation to the asymptotic distribution of the ML estimators and bootstrapping methods. Bayes estimates and credible intervals of the unknown parameters are obtained using differential evolution Markov chain Monte Carlo and Lindley’s methods. The proposed methods are compared via Monte Carlo simulations studies and an example employing real data. The performance of both ML and Bayes estimates is improved under RSS compared with simple random sample (SRS) regardless of the sample size. Bayes estimates outperform the ML estimates for small samples, while it is the other way around for moderate and large samples.

In this study, we propose a new single acceptance sampling plan from truncated life test assuming that the quality characteristics follow the Tsallis q-exponential distribution. The proposed plan is given, and then we derived the operation characteristics function and calculate the optimal sample size and producer’'s risk for some given parameter values to measure the performance of this plan. Also, a comparative study with other sampling plan is discussed to show the benefit of the proposed plan, and real data analysis is given to illustrate the applicability of the proposed plan in the industry.

In this paper, acceptance sampling plans are developed when the life test is truncated at a pre-assigned time. For different acceptance numbers, confidence levels and values of the ratio of the fixed experiment time to the specified average life time, the minimum sample sizes required to ensure the specified average life are calculate assuming that the life time variate of the test units follows a two-parameter Quasi Lindley distribution (QLD(2)). The operating characteristic function values of the new sampling plans and the corresponding producer's risk are presented.

This paper examines how bank efficiency and stability are affected by the market power in Africa. Our results show that the higher degree of market power is associated with high level of efficiency and profitability. The banks with more market power operating are able to be in command of the price and hence improve their profit. The market power has a benefit in both stability and risk. Hence, gain in market will increase the stability and reduce the risk for banking system. Our findings do not support the argument that competition should not be based on a “quiet life hypothesis”.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to analytically extend the understanding of leadership styles and organisational coaching and their influence on organisational outcomes and workplace counterproductive behaviours within a non-Western context, i.e. the United Arab Emirates (UAE).Design/methodology/approachIn this study, a sample size of 656 participants from 14 different business sectors in the Emirates was used. The meta-analysis concept of latent variables and non-linear principal components analysis, along with the corresponding methodology of structural equation modelling, were implemented.FindingsThe study finds that organisational coaching has a significant positive effect on transactional leadership and has a significant influence on job alienation. Interestingly, coaching has a significant effect on commitment and counterproductive workplace behaviours. The detailed data analysis usingFtests and independentt-tests, when applicable, indicated that there was a tendency for older employees to have more favourable attitudes towards transformational leadership or commitment but not towards coaching.Originality/valueDespite the popularity of the presented topic in today's organisations, research in a Middle East context has not kept pace with its counterpart in Western areas of the world. The present study attempts to bridge the gap between Western theories in developed countries and under-researched Eastern countries, namely, the UAE, and to test the impact of leadership styles and organisational coaching and their influence on employee commitment and trust mediated by job bullying and job alienation.
