2. Anxiety and depression in glioma patients: prevalence, risk factors, and their correlation with survival

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the risk factors and prognostic value of anxiety and depression in glioma patients. A total of 190 glioma patients who underwent resection were consecutively enrolled. Anxiety was assessed using hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) and Zung self-rating anxiety scale (SAS); depression was assessed with the use of HADS and Zung self-rating depression scale (SDS). All patients were followed up to death or 36 months. Overall survival (OS) was calculated according to the survival data. The prevalence of anxiety ranged from 36.3 to 37.4%, and the prevalence of depression ranged from 28.4 to 32.6% based on different assessment scales. Female, diabetes, and increased WHO grade were correlated with HADS anxiety and SAS anxiety, while female, single/divorced/widowed status, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and CKD were associated with HADS depression and SDS depression. Further multivariate logistic analyses disclosed the following: single/divorced/widowed status and WHO grade were independent risk factors for HADS anxiety; female and hyperlipidemia were independent risk factors for SAS anxiety; whereas education duration (< 12 years), single/divorced/widowed status, and CKD were independent risk factors for HADS depression; female, single/divorced/widowed status, and hyperlipidemia were independent risk factors for SDS depression. Besides, HADS anxiety, SAS anxiety and SDS depression were correlated with shorter OS, while HADS depression was not. Our findings about the risk factors and prognostic value of anxiety and depression might aid for their early prevention and prognosis improvement in glioma patients.

7. Acylamino functionalized triazine-based porous organic polymers for efficient Cd2+ capture.

Abstract

Functionalized porous organic polymers (POPs) with high Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area (SBET) are promising for the removal of heavy metals while their synthesis remains a challenge. A kind of acylamino functionalized triazine-based POPs was developed from melamine and trimesic acid by one-pot polycondensation in this study. The resultant polymers were applied for Cd2+ removal from aqueous solution. These polymers had controllable SBET of 246–463 m²/g with the predominant mesoporous distribution. Due to their well-constructed porosity and plentiful acylamino groups, they were efficient for Cd2+ removal with the maximum capacity of 392.5 mg/g at pH = 6. The adsorption was very fast and less than 15 min was enough to attain the equilibrium. Analysis of the mechanism revealed that the embedded acylamino and triazine ring played a role due to the strong chelating of the oxygen and nitrogen with Cd2+. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This study analyzed and predicted following aspects of isopentenyl pyrophosohate isomerases (IPIs) of five north medicinal plants using bioinformatics methods and tools: physical and chemical properties, hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity, transmembrane domain, secondary structure, subcellular localization and so on. The results showed that: there was no notable difference among the physical and chemical properties of IPIs of the five north medicinal plants; the IPIs were mainly hydrophilic; the IPIs were mainly located in chloroplasts by subcellular localization; serine phosphorylation sites were the most; the secondary structures mainly consisted of α-helixes and random coils; no signal peptide existed, indicating that the protein IPI was non-secreted protein; no trans-membrane domain existed; and one functional domain was shown, i.e., Nudix Hydrolase Superfamily. This study is of great significance to research on IPI gene functions, deep research on north medicinal plants, improvement of efficacy of north medicinal plants and rational development and utilization of medicinal plant resources.
