With increasing effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy, people with HIV (PWH) are living longer and the prevalence of older PWH continues to increase. Accordingly, PWH are experiencing an increased burden of age-related comorbidities. With this shifting demographics, clinicians and researchers face additional challenges in how to identify, address, and manage the complex intersections of HIV- and aging-related conditions. Established in 2009, the International Workshop on HIV and Aging brings together clinicians and researchers in cross-disciplinary fields along with community advocates and PWH to address the multidisciplinary nature of HIV and aging. This article summarizes plenary talks from the 10th Annual International Workshop on HIV and Aging, which took place in New York City on October 10 and 11, 2019. Presentation topics included the following: the burdens of HIV-associated comorbidities, aging phenotypes, community engagement, and loneliness; these issues are especially important for older PWH, considering the current COVID-19 pandemic. We also discuss broad questions and potential directions for future research necessary to better understand the interaction between HIV and aging.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the New Jersey Safe Schools Program (NJSS) surveyed a subset of newer NJ high school (HS) teachers who completed NJSS work-based learning supervisory trainings from October 2021 to June 2023. The purpose of this study was to gain insight on NJ HS teacher perceptions of school provided mental health services, and well-being supports received during the COVID-19 pandemic. Via online surveys, teachers anonymously identified who should be responsible for supporting mental well-being in schools, satisfaction with existing mental health services, and self-care practices implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the 114 HS teachers surveyed, nearly 70% would recommend existing school mental health services to colleagues, 53% would like an increase in mental health and counseling services available at their school, and 44% would like their schools to improve mental health literacy. This study presents insight into the needs teachers expressed for appropriate school mental health support and services. Data will inform guidance for how to better address identified needs, including employee wellness, and creating positive social and emotional school environments. School districts should prioritize the implementation of suitable and equitable school-based mental health services to teachers and students alike to promote healthy and productive school environments. At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, clinicians and researchers were concerned about its impact on the health of people living with HIV (PLWH). Although mitigation measures during the early part of the pandemic used telehealth, it was uncertain whether PLWH would be amenable to this type of care and whether health outcomes would be affected. PLWH actively seeking treatment at a large urban outpatient practice in Essex County, New Jersey, were interviewed from October 2020 to June 2021 about their healthrelated experiences during COVID-19. The sample was dichotomized by age (< 55 and ≥ 55). In all, participants (69.2%, n = 92) used telehealth during this period, 85.0% (n = 113) actively tested for COVID-19, with only 7% (n = 8) testing positive at the time of interview. Our findings demonstrate that PLWH who engaged with health care before the COVID-19 pandemic continued doing that and had relatively favorable health outcomes with few differences by age. The article examines the evolving interests in occupational safety and health (OSH) among new public health students from 2015 to 2023, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Topics discussed include the challenges in recruiting and retaining OSH professionals, the impact of the pandemic on public health education, and the importance of adapting OSH training to better engage students from diverse backgrounds.

The article discusses the key role played by oxidative stress (OS) in the pathogenesis of COVID-19 and how the host cells use their inherent defense mechanisms to prevent oxidative damage. Also cited are how severe acute respiratory syndrome Covid 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes COVID-19, the roles played by receptor angiotensin-changing over protein II (ACE2) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in COVID-19, and the link between ROS and pro-inflammatory cytokines.

AIM: The main objective of the present study is to assess the levels of CK-MB and lipid profile among diabetic male and female patients.Methods:A total of 80 people were chosen from the santosh medical college OPD,department of General Medicine, with 40 men and 40 women suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus. The patient’s lipid profile and cardiac marker (CK-MB) were tested after a baseline clinical and anthropometric evaluation.Results: Male patients with type 2 diabetes had significantly higher cholesterol and CK-MB level than female patients.Conclusion: Determination of the level of CK-MB helps in assessment of progression of diabetes and it is recommended to be performed clinically in routine practice. Thyroid hormones are required for normal development as well as regulating metabolism in the adult. Thyroid gland disorders are the second most abundant endocrinal disorders after diabetes. A decreased thyroid hormone adversely affects the erythropoietic system that causes anemia. Aim: The Aim and objective of the study was to compare the vitamin B12, Folate and Ferritin with thyroid hormones in hypothyroidism. Methods: In the present study, total 250 samples were included in which 125 were hypothyroid patients and 125 were normal individuals of age group between 25-60 years. Serum concentrations of Total T3, Total T4, TSH,Vitamin B12, Folate and Ferritin were measured using Chemiluminescence Immunosorbent Assay. Results: Serum TSH levels were significantly increased in Hypothyroidism as compared to normal individuals (8.45±1.45 vs2.99 ±1.12, p<0.001). The total T3 level was significantly decreased in Hypothyroidism in comparison to the normal individual (0.49±0.41vs1.45±0.59, p<0.0001*).Similarly, the total T4 level was significantly decreased in Hypothyroidism in comparison to the normal individuals (3.10±1.45 vs. 6.82±1.10, p<0.001).The level of Vitamin B12 was significantly decreased in Hypothyroidism in comparison to the normal individual (280.45±159.30 vs 683.93±364.74, p<0.001.Ferritin was also observed significantly decreased in Hypothyroidism in comparison to normal (53.08±1.18 vs83.43±3.30, p<0.001*) Conclusion: The Lower values of above these parameters in hypothyroidism interpret that thyroid hormones are metabolic hormones and produce an impact on our metabolic and hormonal balance and hence, the hemopoietic system is adversely affected. Background: Polycystic ovarian syndrome is an endocrinological disorder in females of reproductive age with a prevalence rate of about 8-13%. Females suffering from PCOS have high risk of anxiety and depression which further leads to chronic low grade inflammation. Thus, the study aimed to investigate the correlation between the serum levels of Cortisol, hs-CRP, IL-6, and TNF-α and anxiety scale (Sinha anxiety scale) was statically analyzed to clearly understand their role in PCOS. Material and method: 186 PCOS subjects and 186 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. All the participants underwent blood tests (S.cortisol, Hs-CRP, IL-6, and TNF-α) as well as Sinha anxiety scale for assess the anxiety score. Results: BMI, SBP, S.cortisol, IL-6, and TNF-α were significantly higher in PCOS subjects. Whereas, the DBP, Sinha anxiety scale, and Hs-CRP were higher but not significant in PCOS subjects. There was no correlation observe between cortisol & IL-6, cortisol & HsCRP, and cortisol & Sinha anxiety scale; however negative correlation had been observed in between DBP & TNF-α. Furtherrmore, positive correlation was observed between IL-6 & SBP. Conclusion: Our study suggests that the increased symptoms of anxiety and psychological stress elevates the proinflammatory cytokines levels in the PCOS subjects, and these biochemical markers are associated with obesity and SBP. We proposed that potential adverse psychological implications of PCOS along with pro-inflammatory cytokine should be followed up with a mental health professional. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
