To develop and support teachers' skills in classroom management, resource-efficient teacher training approaches are needed. This study evaluated the effects of an online tiered training intervention on teachers' use of class-wide positive behavior supports, either behavior-specific praise (BSP) or opportunities to respond (OTRs), using a randomized controlled trial conducted in an online graduate course in classroom management. Fifty-nine participants (52 teachers, 6 paraprofessionals, and 1 after-school instructor) completed the study. We randomly assigned 29 teachers to receive tiered training for BSP and 30 teachers to receive tiered training for OTRs. We found tiered training increased participants' use of the target practice, BSP or OTR, with medium to large effect sizes, and most teachers required support beyond universal training. Teachers rated the training they received as highly acceptable, feasible, and useful.

Abstract Spin-orbit torque is not only a useful probe to study manipulation of magnetic textures and magnetic states at the nanoscale but also it carries great potential for next-generation computing applications. Here we report the observation of rich spin-orbit torque switching phenomena such as field-free switching, multistate switching, memristor behavior and ratchet effect in a single shot, co-sputtered, rare earth-transition metal Gd x Co100−x . Notably such effects have only been observed in antiferromagnet/ferromagnet bi-layer systems previously. We show that these effects can be traced to a large anistropic canting, that can be engineered into the Gd x Co100−x system. Further, we show that the magnitude of these switching phenomena can be tuned by the canting angle and the in-plane external field. The complex spin-orbit torque switching observed in canted Gd x Co100−x not only provides a platform for spintronics but also serves as a model system to study the underlying physics of complex magnetic textures and interactions.

Teachers critically need classroom management skills. To develop these skills, teachers need high-quality professional development (PD). To support teachers, schools need practical tools for assessing the effects of PD on teachers' use of classroom management practices. The adapted alternating treatments design (AATD) may be a tool for this purpose. We conducted an initial pilot investigation testing the potential of AATDs to evaluate the effects of PD on teachers' use of classroom management practices for eight Pre-K-12 teachers. We successfully used AATDs to evaluate PD effects in all cases across two phases of PD (online module instruction, online module + peer coaching). Results suggest the potential promise of using AATDs to evaluate the effects of PD on teachers' use of classroom management practices. Results also showed didactic training alone was often insufficient to increase use of practices, whereas peer coaching was effective in increasing use of at least one practice for all teachers.

ABSTRACT Background Despite bilateral mastectomy (BLM) for early‐stage breast cancer (BC) showing no survival benefit and increased risk compared to breast conserving surgery, some patients still choose this treatment. This study examined whether emotion reactivity and regulation influence treatment decision making among newly diagnosed women with breast cancer. Methods Cross‐sectional survey data were analyzed as part of a larger study. Measures included the Contralateral Prophylactic Mastectomy (CPM) survey, PROMIS Anxiety scale, and Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) Cognitive Reappraisal and Emotional Suppression subscales. Primary analysis included a logistic regression model predicting treatment choice (BLM vs. non‐BLM). Results Participants (N = 137) with unilateral BC (Stages 0–III) were divided between BLM (n = 66) versus breast conserving surgery (i.e., non‐BLM, n = 71) treatment groups. Compared to the non‐BLM group, the BLM group was younger, more likely to be partnered, and had a higher household income. Women with high levels of BC‐specific worry were 3.6 times more likely to choose BLM compared to women with low levels of worry (OR = 3.09, 95% CI: 1.07–0.8.93). Those who used cognitive reappraisal were 10% less likely to choose BLM compared to women who did not use cognitive reappraisal (OR = 0.90, 95% CI: 0.82–0.99). There were no group differences in levels of generalized anxiety (OR = 0.93, 95% CI: 0.87–0.99) or emotional suppression (OR = 1.02, 95% CI: 0.90–1.16). Conclusions Findings suggest the choice of BLM may be due, in part, to negative emotional experiences after a BC diagnosis and lesser use of reappraisal to reframe cancer‐related fears. These may be important targets of intervention to support women making BC treatment decisions.

To fight climate change, it is crucial to have a precise knowledge of greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations in the atmosphere and to monitor sources and sinks of GHGs. On global scales, satellites are an appropriate monitoring tool. For the validation of the satellite measurements and to tie them to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) trace gas scale, ground-based Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) networks are used, which provide reference data. To ensure the highest-quality validation data, the network must be scaled to the WMO trace gas scale and have a very small site-to-site bias. Currently, the Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON) is the de facto standard FTIR network for providing reference data. Ensuring a small site-to-site bias is a major challenge for the TCCON. In this work, we describe the development and application of a new method to evaluate the site-to-site bias by using a remotely controlled portable FTIR spectrometer as a travel standard (TS) for evaluating the consistency of columnar GHG measurements performed at different TCCON stations, and we describe campaign results for the TCCON sites in Tsukuba (Japan), East Trout Lake (Canada) and Wollongong (Australia). The TS is based on a characterized portable EM27/SUN FTIR spectrometer equipped with an accurate pressure sensor which is operated in an automated enclosure. The EM27/SUN is the standard instrument of the Collaborative Carbon Column Observing Network (COCCON). The COCCON is designed such that all spectrometers are referenced to a common reference unit located in Karlsruhe, Germany. To evaluate the long-term stability of the TS instrument, it is placed side-by-side with the TCCON instrument in Karlsruhe (KA) and the COCCON reference unit (the EM27/SUN spectrometer SN37, which is operated permanently next to the TCCON-KA site) between deployments to collect comparing measurements. At each of the visited TCCON sites, the TCCON spectrometers collected low-resolution (LR) (0.5 cm−1) and high-resolution (HR) (0.02 cm−1) measurements in an alternating manner. Based on the TS as a portable standard, the measurements are compared to the Karlsruhe site as a common reference. For Tsukuba and Wollongong, the agreement with the reference in Karlsruhe found for XCO2 is on the 0.1 % level for both the LR and HR measurements. For XCH4, the agreement is at the 0.2 % level, with the low-resolution measurements showing a low bias at both sites and for both gases. For XCO, the deviations are up to 7 %. The reason for this is likely to be a known issue with the CO a priori profiles used by the TCCON over source regions. In East Trout Lake (ETL), the TCCON spectrometer broke down while the TS was en route to the station. Hence, no side-by-side comparison was possible there. An important auxiliary value for FTIR retrievals is the surface pressure. Using the pressure sensor in the TS, the surface pressure measurements at each site are also compared. The surface pressure analysis reveals excellent agreement (0.027, 0.135 and 0.094 hPa) for the Tsukuba, ETL and Wollongong sites.

Abstract Having people around, especially if they provide social support, often leads to positive outcomes both physically and mentally. Mere social presence is especially beneficial when it comes from a loved one or romantic partner. In these studies, we aim to expand the understanding of how the presence of one’s romantic partner affects emotion regulation in parental situations. Specifically, we examined how partner presence influences the parent’s emotional intensity, emotion regulation, and interpretation of their child’s emotion regulation. We examined these questions in parents of both non-autistic children (Study 1) as well as autistic children (Study 2), which we hypothesize leads to more intense emotional interactions. The parents of autistic children were better able to regulate their emotions when their partners were present compared to when they were absent. Furthermore, in both studies, parents’ ratings of their children’s ability to regulate their emotions were higher when their parent’s partner was present compared to when the partner was absent. However, in both studies, we found no significant difference in the parents’ emotional intensity when their partners were present compared to when their partners were absent during the emotionally charged interaction with their child. Our findings help highlight the impact of partner presence on parent and child emotion regulation.

The Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON) measures column-average mole fractions of several greenhouse gases (GHGs), beginning in 2004, from over 30 current or past measurement sites around the world using solar absorption spectroscopy in the near-infrared (near-IR) region. TCCON GHG data have been used extensively for multiple purposes, including in studies of the carbon cycle and anthropogenic emissions, as well as to validate and improve observations from space-based sensors. Here, we describe an update to the retrieval algorithm used to process the TCCON near-IR solar spectra and to generate the associated data products. This version, called GGG2020, was initially released in April 2022. It includes updates and improvements to all steps of the retrieval, including but not limited to the conversion of the original interferograms into spectra, the spectroscopic information used in the column retrieval, post hoc air mass dependence correction, and scaling to align with the calibration scales of in situ GHG measurements. All TCCON data are available through https://tccondata.org/ (last access: 22 April 2024) and are hosted on CaltechDATA (https://data.caltech.edu/, last access: 22 April 2024). Each TCCON site has a unique DOI for its data record. An archive of all the sites' data is also available with the DOI https://doi.org/10.14291/TCCON.GGG2020 (Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON) Team, 2022). The hosted files are updated approximately monthly, and TCCON sites are required to deliver data to the archive no later than 1 year after acquisition. Full details of data locations are provided in the “Code and data availability” section.

Impairments in sleep and affect regulation are evident across a wide range of mental disorders. Understanding the sleep factors that relate to affect regulatory difficulties will inform mechanistic understanding and aid in treatment. Despite rising interest, some research challenges in this area include integrating across different clinical and non-clinical literatures investigating the role of sleep architecture (measured with polysomnography) and experimentally manipulated sleep, as well as integrating more explicit versus implicit affect regulation processes. In this comprehensive review, we use a unifying framework to examine sleep's relationship with implicit-automatic regulation and explicit-controlled regulation, both of which are relevant to mental health (e.g., PTSD and depression). Many studies of implicit-automatic regulation (e.g., fear extinction and safety learning) demonstrate the importance of sleep, and REM sleep specifically. Studies of explicit-controlled regulation (e.g., cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression) are less consistent in their findings, with results differing depending on the type of affect regulation and/or way that sleep was measured or manipulated. There is a clear relationship between objective sleep and affect regulation processes. However, there is a need for 1) more studies focusing on sleep and explicit-controlled affect regulation; 2) replication with the same types of regulation strategies; 3) more studies experimentally manipulating sleep to examine its impact on affect regulation and vice versa in order to infer cause and effect; and 4) more studies looking at sleep's impact on next-day affect regulation (not just overnight change in affect reactivity).

Affective responses during stressful, high-stakes situations can play an important role in shaping performance. For example, feeling shaky and nervous at a job interview can undermine performance, whereas feeling excited during that same interview can optimize performance. Thus, affect regulation—the way people influence their affective responses—might play a key role in determining high-stakes outcomes. To test this idea, we adapted a synergistic mindsets intervention (SMI) (Yeager et al. 2022 Nature 607, 512–520 (doi:10.1038/s41586-022-04907-7)) to a high-stakes esports context. Our approach was motivated by the idea that (i) mindsets both about situations and one’s stress responses to situations can be shaped to help optimize stress responses, and (ii) challenge versus threat stress responses will be associated with improved outcomes. After a baseline performance task, we randomly assigned gamers (n = 300) either to SMI or a control condition in which they learned brain facts. After two weeks of daily gaming, gamers competed in a cash-prize tournament. We measured affective experiences before the matches and cardiovascular responses before and throughout the matches. Contrary to predictions, gamers did not experience negative affect (including feeling stressed), thus limiting the capacity for the intervention to regulate physiological responses and optimize performance. Compared with the control participants, synergistic mindsets participants did not show greater challenge responses or improved performance outcomes. Though our adaptation of Yeager et al.’s SMI did not optimize esports performance, our findings point to important considerations regarding the suitability of an intervention such as this to different performance contexts of varying degrees of stressfulness.

IntroductionEmotion regulation (ER) is a complex process that manifests gradually over time. This study investigated the temporal dynamics of ER in modifying positive emotions in terms of both negative affect (NA) and positive affect (PA) dimensions.MethodsAfter participants had been exposed to pleasant pictures for 8,000 ms, they received instructions to either continue viewing the picture (no regulation) or reappraise it with a neutral meaning (neutralize goal) or negative meaning (transform goal) for another 8,000 ms. We obtained corrugator supercilii and zygomaticus major electromyography (EMG) as objective measures of NA and PA.ResultsFor the no-regulation condition, upon instruction onset, we observed maintained low levels of corrugator and high levels of zygomaticus EMG reactivity, indicating sustained PA activation. Compared to the no-regulation condition, for the neutralize goal, we observed no change in corrugator reactivity, which remained at a low level, while zygomaticus reduction started at 1,000 ms after instruction onset, indicating decreased PA and generation of a neutral emotional state. For the transform goal, we observed corrugator increase and zygomaticus decrease both starting at 1,500 ms after instruction onset and co-existing throughout the regulation period. These results indicate increased NA and decreased PA, relating to generation of a negative emotional state. The transform goal differed from the neutralize goal in terms of corrugator increase starting at 2,500 ms after instruction onset. Albeit simultaneous onset of changes on corrugator and zygomaticus reactivity under the transform goal, model-fitting analyses indicated that the best-fitting trajectory was one that first emphasized PA reduction until, at 3,000 ms, it turned into primary NA increase.DiscussionThese distinct temporal patterns highlight the possibility of effecting one-dimensional PA change with the neutralize goal and sequential two-dimensional change (first decreasing PA, then increasing NA) with the transform goal. This research sheds light on the time course of emotional change brought about by different regulatory goals.

Background: There is evidence that beliefs about emotions are important for mental health. However, this field needs further research. Via the Emotion Beliefs Questionnaire, we aimed to explore the latent structure of emotion beliefs, their associations with numerous emotion constructs, and the role of emotion regulation in mediating emotion beliefs and emotional problems. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 508 general community adults via an online survey, participants completed the EBQ, the Perth Emotion Regulation Competency Inventory, and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 for the central analyses, in addition to several related emotion measures. Our analytical strategy included: 1. Factor analyses to test the psychometric properties of the EBQ including its measurement invariance; 2. Correlational analyses to investigate the relationship between beliefs about emotions and several emotion constructs; and 3. Mediation analyses to explore the role of emotion regulation in the association between beliefs about emotions and depression and anxiety. Results: The findings supported a four-factor structure for the EBQ, with invariance across different demographic categories. Beliefs about the controllability of emotions were associated with most emotion constructs relative to beliefs about the usefulness of emotions. The links between beliefs about emotions with depression and anxiety were mediated by emotion regulation. Conclusions: Our findings underscore the importance of assessing the multidimensional emotion beliefs construct, as these beliefs are associated with impaired emotion regulation and many important emotional outcomes. Beliefs about emotion thus represent a useful area for future clinical research so that interventions tackle psychological difficulties in an effective way.

Objective: Implementation and continuing optimization of enhanced recovery protocol after thoracic surgery results in significant improvement of postoperative outcomes. We observed a 10-fold increase in the rate of postoperative day (POD) 1 discharges following robotic thoracoscopic anatomic resections over time. We aimed to determine factors associated with safe POD1 discharges. Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of a prospectively maintained database of robotic anatomic pulmonary resections between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2022, with patients of the last 2.5 years forming the basis of this study. Data collected included demographics, insurance types, Area Deprivation Index (indicator of poverty), and operative and postoperative variables including length of stay, opioid use, daily pain levels, readmissions, and outpatient interventions. Factors associated with POD1 were analyzed using a logistic regression module. Result: In total, 279 patients met inclusion criteria (91 POD1 discharges, 32.6%; none discharged with a pleural catheter). There was neither an increase of postdischarge interventions for pleural complications nor readmission in early discharge patients. After adjusting for relevant factors, younger age, right middle lobectomy, lower opioid use on POD1, operating room finish before 4 PM, and low Area Deprivation Index were significantly associated with POD1 discharge. A subanalysis of 49 patients, who could have been discharged on POD1, identified hypoxemia requiring home oxygen, atrial fibrillation, and poorly controlled pain being common mitigatable clinical factors delaying POD1 discharge. Conclusions: Safe POD1 discharge following robotic thoracoscopic anatomic resection was achieved in 32% of cases. Identification of positive and negative factors affecting early discharge provides guidance for further modifications to increase the number of POD1 discharges.

Abstract Gene editing strategies for cystic fibrosis are challenged by the complex barrier properties of airway epithelia. We previously reported that the amphiphilic S10 shuttle peptide non-covalently combined with CRISPR-associated (Cas) ribonucleoprotein (RNP) enabled editing of human and mouse airway epithelial cells. Here, we derive the S315 peptide as an improvement over S10 in delivering base editor RNP. Following intratracheal aerosol delivery of Cy5-labeled peptide in rhesus macaques, we confirm delivery throughout the respiratory tract. Subsequently, we target CCR5 with co-administration of ABE8e-Cas9 RNP and S315. We achieve editing efficiencies of up-to 5.3% in rhesus airway epithelia. Moreover, we document persistence of edited epithelia for up to 12 months in mice. Finally, delivery of ABE8e-Cas9 targeting the CFTR R553X mutation restores anion channel function in cultured human airway epithelia. These results demonstrate the therapeutic potential of base editor delivery with S315 to functionally correct the CFTR R553X mutation in respiratory epithelia.

Objectives: Enhanced recovery after thoracic surgery (ERATS) protocols use a combination of analgesics for pain control and have been associated with decreased opioid requirements. We investigated the impact of continual ERATS refinement on the incidence of opioid-free discharge. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed our prospectively maintained institutional database for elective, opioid-naive robotic thoracoscopic procedures. Demographics, operative outcomes, postoperative opioid dispensed (morphine milligram equivalent), and opioid discharge status were collected. Our primary outcome of interest was factors associated with opioid-free discharge; our secondary objective was to determine the incidence of new persistent opioid users. Results: In total, 466 patients from our optimized ERATS protocol were included; 309 (66%) were discharged without opioids. However, 34 (11%) of patients discharged without opioids required a prescription postdischarge. Conversely, 7 of 157 patients (11%), never filled their opioid prescriptions given at discharge. Factors associated with opioid-free discharges were nonanatomic resections, mediastinal procedures, minimal pain, and lack of opioid usage on the day of discharge. More importantly, 3.2% of opioid-free discharge patients became new persistent opioid users versus 10.8% of patients filling opioid prescriptions after discharges (P = .0013). Finally, only 2.3% of opioid-naive patients of the entire cohort became chronic opioid users; there was no difference in the incidence of chronic use by opioid discharge status. Conclusions: Optimized opioid-sparing ERATS protocols are highly effective in reducing opioid prescription on the day of discharge. We observed a very low rate of new persistent or chronic opioid use in our cohort, further highlighting the role ERATS protocols in combating the opioid epidemic.

Abstract Background There has been steadily increasing use of bilateral mastectomy (BMX) in the treatment of primary breast cancer (BC). In this study, we utilized functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to examine the influence of emotion regulation on the decision of newly diagnosed BC patients to choose BMX rather than non‐BMX treatments. Methods We recruited 123 women with unilateral BC, 61 of whom received BMX and 62 of whom received non‐BMX treatments, and 39 healthy controls. While participants were in the fMRI scanner, we showed them BC‐related and non‐BC‐negative images. In one condition, they were instructed to watch the images naturally. In another, they were instructed to regulate their negative emotion. We compared the fMRI signal during these conditions throughout the brain. Results With non‐BC‐negative images as the baseline, BC patients showed greater self‐reported reactivity and neural reactivity to BC‐related images in brain regions associated with self‐reflection than did controls. Among the BC patients, the BMX group showed weaker activation in prefrontal emotion regulation brain regions during emotion regulation than did the non‐BMX group. Conclusions BC patients are understandably emotionally hyper‐reactive to BC‐related stimuli and those who ultimately received BMX experience more difficulty in regulating BC‐related negative emotion than non‐BMX BC patients. These findings offer neuropsychological evidence that difficulty in managing anxiety related to the possibility of cancer recurrence is a factor in surgical treatment decision‐making and may be an intervention target with the goal of strengthening the management of cancer‐related anxiety by nonsurgical means. Abstract Background Dissociation is a ubiquitous clinical phenomenon. Dissociative disorders (DD) are primarily characterized by dissociation, and dissociative states are also a criterion for borderline personality disorder (BPD) and the dissociative subtype of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dissociative reactions (e.g., depersonalization/derealization or gaps in awareness/memory) across diagnostic categories are believed to be affect contingent and theorized to serve affect regulation functions. What is not clear, however, is how self-reported affect and physiological reactivity unfold within dissociative episodes. To address this issue, the present project aims to investigate the hypothesis (1) whether self-reported distress (as indicated by arousal, e.g., feeling tense/agitated, and/or valence, e.g., feeling discontent/unwell) and physiological reactivity increase before dissociative episodes and (2) whether self-reported distress and physiological reactivity decrease during and after dissociative episodes in a transdiagnostic sample of patients with DD, BPD, and/or PTSD. Methods We will use a smartphone application to assess affect and dissociation 12 times per day over the course of one week in everyday life. During this time, heart and respiratory rates will be remotely monitored. Afterwards, participants will report affect and dissociative states eight times in the laboratory before, during, and after the Trier Social Stress Test. During the laboratory task, we will continuously record heart rate, electrodermal activity, and respiratory rate, as well as measure blood pressure and take salivary samples to determine cortisol levels. Our hypotheses will be tested using multilevel structural equation models. Power analyses determined a sample size of 85. Discussion The project will test key predictions of a transdiagnostic model of dissociation based on the idea that dissociative reactions are affect contingent and serve affect regulation functions. This project will not include non-clinical control participants. In addition, the assessment of dissociation is limited to pathological phenomena.

ABSTRACT: Energy and nutrient deficiency in dairy cows in early lactation is considered to contribute to their increased susceptibility to mastitis. We have tested the hypothesis that feeding diets with high contents of either nitrogenic, glucogenic, or lipogenic components in early lactation affects both the endocrine and metabolic status, as well as the mammary immune competence. After calving, cows were fed increasing amounts of concentrate up to 10 kg/d rich in crude protein (nitrogenic, n = 10), glucogenic precursors (glucogenic, n = 11), or lipids (lipogenic, n = 11). In wk 3, one udder quarter was challenged with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from Escherichia coli. Blood and milk were sampled on the day before LPS challenge (d −1), and on d 0, 1, 2, 3, and 9 after LPS challenge. On the day of LPS challenge additional samples were taken hourly for quarter milk and every 3 h for blood. Urea concentrations were higher in plasma and milk of cows fed the nitrogenic diet. However, plasma concentrations of glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, β-hydroxybutyrate, nonesterified fatty acids, as well as insulin, glucagon, and insulin-like growth factor-1 were not affected by the different diets. The mammary immune challenge induced a substantial increase of somatic cell count (SCC) in the treated quarter, and a transient decrease of total milk yield and white blood cells similar in all diet groups for one day. The absolute phagocytosis of blood leukocytes was decreased; however, the phagocytosis per cell was increased in glucogenic-fed cows at 6 h after LPS challenge. During mammary inflammation an insulin resistance, shown by increased plasma glucose, insulin, and glucagon, developed similarly in all diet groups. β-hydroxybutyrate and nonesterified fatty acids were decreased at 1 d after LPS challenge in glucogenic-fed cows only. Cholesterol did not change, and triglycerides only decreased significantly in lipogenic-fed cows 6 h after challenge. On d 9 after LPS challenge, SCC and milk yield and metabolic factors were recovered in all groups. In conclusion, the endocrine and metabolic situation, and the immune response to intramammary LPS of dairy cows during early lactation was not substantially influenced by the elevated supply of nitrogenic, glucogenic, or lipogenic components due to the provided feed in this study.

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to investigate the effect of the different dry-off strategies based on reducing feeding level (normal vs. reduced energy density), reducing milking frequency (twice vs. once daily), and administration of a dopamine agonist after last milking (i.e. saline vs. cabergoline injection) on blood metabolites, hormones, and minerals around dry-off. In this experiment, 119 Holstein dairy cows were used in a 2 × 2 × 2 factorial arrangement. In the last week before dry-off, cows were allocated to 1 of the 4 possible dry-off strategies based on feeding level and milking frequency. Within 3 h after last milking, cows were injected with either saline or a D2 dopamine agonist (cabergoline; Velactis, Ceva Santé Animale, Libourne, France; labeled for use only with abrupt dry-off, e.g., no preceding reduction in feeding level or milking frequency before last milking). After dry-off, all cows were fed the same dry cow diet and data collection continued for a week. Blood samples were collected from the coccygeal vein on d −9, −6, −5, −2, 1, 2, 5, and 7 relative to dry-off. Additionally, blood was sampled at 0, 3, and 6 h relative to injection of either cabergoline or saline, equivalent to d 0.125, 0.250, and 0.375 relative to last milking (dry-off). The reduced feeding level before dry-off caused reduced glucose and insulin concentrations as well as increased free fatty acid concentrations, particularly when reduced feeding level was combined with milking the cows 2× daily. The intramuscular injection of cabergoline caused the expected reduction in circulating prolactin concentrations. In addition, dopamine-agonist cabergoline induced an atypical simultaneous pattern of plasma metabolites (i.e., increased glucose and free fatty acid concentrations), hormones (i.e., reduced insulin and increased cortisol concentrations), and minerals (i.e., reduced calcium concentration), indicating that normal metabolic and mineral homeostatic regulations were hindered after the injection of ergot alkaloid cabergoline. In conclusion, reducing milking frequency seems the best management strategy to reduce milk production at dry-off among those tested in this study.

Introduction Previous studies did not show a difference in terms of safety and efficacy among first‐line stent retriever (SR), contact aspiration (CA), or combined techniques for proximal large vessel occlusion strokes. However, the optimal reperfusion therapy in patients with primary distal medium vessel occlusion (DMVO) strokes is uncertain. We aimed to compare the clinical and procedural outcomes among first‐line SR, CA and combined techniques in patients with primary DMVO. Methods This is a retrospective analysis of a prospectively maintained database from 14 comprehensive stroke centers in the US and Europe. Patients were included if they had a primary DMVO stroke due to MCA‐M3/M4, ACA‐A1/A2‐3, or PCA‐P1/P2‐3 and underwent mechanical thrombectomy with first‐line SR, CA, or combined technique. The primary outcome was FPE defined as eTICI 2c/3 on the first pass. Secondary outcomes included mFPE defined as eTICI 2b/3 on the first pass, successful reperfusion defined as eTICI 2b/3 at the end of the procedure. Clinical outcomes included 90‐day mRS0‐1 and 90‐day mRS0‐2. Safety measures included procedural complications, symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH), and 90‐day mortality. The secondary analysis aimed to identify the procedural and clinical outcomes in 3 matched cohorts: (SR vs. CA), (SR vs. combined technique), and (CA vs. combined technique). Results A total of 365 patients were eligible for analysis; 38.1% were female, with a mean age of 69.3 years and a median NIHSS score of 11 [7‐18]. The first‐line SR group consisted of n=74 (20.3%), CA group n=142 (38.9%), and combined technique group n=149 (40.8%).
