Objective Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is widely used for the treatment of patients with blunt traumatic thoracic aortic injury (BTAI). However, aortic haemodynamic and biomechanical implications of this intervention are poorly investigated. This study aimed to assess whether patients treated by TEVAR following BTAI have thoracic aortic abnormalities in geometry, stiffness, and haemodynamics. Methods Patients with BTAI treated by TEVAR at Vall d’Hebron Hospital between 1999 and 2019 were compared with propensity score matched healthy volunteers (HVs). All subjects underwent cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) comprising a 4D flow CMR sequence. Spatially resolved aortic diameter, length, volume, and curvature were assessed. Pulse wave velocity, distensibility, and longitudinal strain (all measurements of aortic stiffness) were determined regionally. Moreover, advanced haemodynamic descriptors were quantified: systolic flow reversal ratio (SFRR), quantifying backward flow during systole, and in plane rotational flow (IRF), measuring in plane strength of helical flow. Results Twenty-six BTAI patients treated by TEVAR were included and matched with 26 HVs. They did not differ in terms of age, sex, and body surface area. Patients with TEVAR had a larger and longer ascending aorta (AAo) and marked abnormalities in local curvature. Aortic stiffness was greater in the aortic segments proximal and distal to TEVAR compared with controls. Moreover, TEVAR patients presented strongly altered flow dynamics compared with controls: a reduced IRF from the distal AAo to the proximal descending aorta and an increased SFRR in the whole thoracic aorta. These differences persisted adjusting for cardiovascular risk factors and were independent of time elapsed since TEVAR implantation. Conclusion At long term follow up, previously healthy patients who underwent TEVAR implantation following BTAI had increased diameter, length and volume of the ascending aorta, and increased aortic stiffness and abnormal flow patterns in the whole thoracic aorta compared with matched controls. Further studies should address whether these alterations have clinical implications.

Abstract. Head-up displays (HUD) assist pilots, especially in the approach and landing phase. In this paper we compared pilots’ eye-tracking behavior between a pathway-in-the-sky layout versus the more conventional two-dimensional symbology in an HUD in a fixed-based cockpit simulator. In particular, we wanted to assess how visual attention was distributed within each layout (tunnel and standard). Performance and eye-tracking data were recorded, as well as workload and situation awareness measures. Results showed that the tunnel-in-the-sky symbology provided a very high tracking performance with low perceived workload and high perceived situational awareness. The analysis of the eye-tracking data revealed possible attentional tunneling with the tunnel-in-the-sky symbology and large differences between the displays in the distribution of visual attention.

E. J. (John) Capaldi (1928–2020) made numerous contributions to experimental psychology in his long career at the University of Texas at Austin and Purdue University. He was a pioneer in the area of animal learning and cognition, known for his sequential theory of partial reinforcement extinction effects. His research in this area and in memory and counting phenomena was conducted for the most part with rats running in straight alley mazes under various sequences of trial outcomes (e.g., reward, nonreward, variations in reward size). John's other interests included the sequential theory applied to Pavlovian conditioning, evolutionary theory, and psychology of science. More generally, John was a scientist to the core who served as a role model to those who knew him. His career centered on the values of science and rigorous critical thinking based in empirical data, coupled with a curiosity and openness to different and new ideas in psychology.

Stateful firewalls (FW) play a critical role in securing our current network infrastructure in various deployments. In this work, we focus on discovering evasion attacks that arise due to semantic implementation vulnerabilities of the intended stateful behaviors. Such attacks enable firewall evasion even if the rules are configured correctly. This is in contrast to prior work that focused on software bugs for privilege escalation and/or policy misconfigurations. Given the black-box and proprietary nature of firewall implementations, we design and implement a model-guided approach for uncovering such evasion vulnerabilities. Specifically, we infer a behavioral model of a specific FW implementation and then use the inferred model to synthesize attack strategies for a given deployment and threat model. In designing Pryde, we address key technical challenges in ensuring that our model inference is tractable and our attack synthesis can cover multiple semantic vulnerability opportunities. We evaluate Pryde on four production-quality firewalls. We discover thousands of distinct attack sequences for 4 popular firewalls (FW).

- Abstract
Among the meson decays, K→πνν‾ are the cleanest environment, from the theoretical point of view, where to search for new physics effects. The NA62 Experiment at CERN SPS aims to measure the BR(K+→π+νν‾) with a 10% precision by the end of 2018. It has been commissioned with technical runs in 2014 and 2015, and some preliminary results of the detector performances and quality of data are here reported.

Background The acute aortic arch angle and narrow aortic diameter in young patients may lead to bird-beak configuration and excessive oversizing of the stent graft in thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for blunt traumatic thoracic aortic injury (BTTAI). Little is known about the association of these factors and complications in long-term follow-up. We evaluated the long-term outcomes in terms of complications, reinterventions, and survival, focusing on the effects of bird-beak configuration and oversizing. Methods This prospective cohort study included patients who underwent TEVAR for BTTAI in our department between October 1999 and January 2015. The main outcomes were migration, collapse, intragraft mural thrombus, reintervention, and survival and their association with oversizing and bird-beak configuration. Results Thirty-four patients were included. Median age was 36 years, and 21% were women. Mean graft oversizing was 19% (range: 8–27%) at the proximal end and 27% (range:, −20% to 50%) at the distal end. Mean follow-up was 98 months (12–198 months). Seven patients presented intragraft mural thrombus, one of whom developed an occlusive parietal thrombosis 1 year after the procedure. Four patients (9%) required reintervention: postoperative revascularization of the left subclavian artery in 2 cases and aortic reinterventions in 2 others. No migration or mortality was seen during follow-up. Bird-beak configuration was seen in 65%: the mean protrusion extension was 16 mm (standard deviation [SD]: 7.4 mm) and the mean angle was 51° (SD: 16°). The association between the complications and bird beak was not statistically significant. Patients with complications had significantly higher proximal end oversizing (23%) than the group with no complications (17%) (P = 0.0007). Conclusions TEVAR for BTTAI shows good results in the long-term follow-up. Complications in our series seemed related to proximal end oversizing. Thoracic stent grafts with a smaller diameter should be available in all trauma centers to avoid excessive oversizing.

International audience; This work presents a fault-tolerant reconfigurable hardware platform for the communication module of satellites. A printed circuit board (PCB) was designed following the European Space Agency (ESA) space product standards. It has a layered structure that mitigates the effects of ionizing radiation and electromagnetic interference (EMI) on the signals traveling on board. Also, all components were selected to tolerate wide temperature variation and, when possible, tolerate ionizing radiation. The main feature of the architecture is to allow changing the hardware configuration of the FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) containing the telecommand and telemetry unit through remote uplink of its bitstream. In this approach, we consider a microcontroller as the responsible entity for updating the configuration bitstream stored in a non-volatile flash memory. An alternative bitstream is also stored in the memory, as a fail-safe technique. For each of the bitstreams (the main and the alternative), there are three copies stored in memory, and a voting scheme is used to ensure the data integrity, as the flash memory is susceptible to Single Event Effects (SEE). The proposed architecture allows testing all the implementations, exercising their functionalities, and also the modules integration as a payload in the FloripaSat mission.

International audience; This work presents a radiation-hardened reconfigurable hardware based platform to be used in deep-space cubesat missions. The platform has been designed for the in-orbit validation of two new technologies: a new radiation-hardened Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) developed in France; and a CCSDS/ECSS IP Core for telemetry (TM) and telecommand (TC) designed at UFSC, Brazil. The printed circuit board (PCB) was designed following the European Space Agency (ESA) space product standards. It has a layered structure that mitigates the effects of radiation and electromag- netic interference on the components signals. All signal layers lie between power and ground planes, avoiding tracks on the outer layers. In addition, all components were selected to tolerate wide tem- perature variation and some even tolerate radiation – as the microcontroller (MCU) (MSP430FR6989) with ferroelectric program memory and the rad-hard FPGA (NX1H35S-BG625PR). An important ar- chitecture feature is to allow changing the hardware configuration of the FPGA through remote uplink of its Bitstream. The MCU is responsible for updating the configuration bitstream stored in a flash non- volatile memory. An aditional bitstream is also stored in the memory, as a fail-safe technique. There are three bitstream copies stored, and a voting scheme is used to ensure the data integrity, as the flash mem- ory is susceptible to Single Event Effects (SEE). The MCU module is responsible for the housekeeping and update management of the rad-hard FPGA. The implementation stored in the FPGA includes not only the TC/TM IP core, but also an abstract execution graph, in the form of a state machine, emulating the basic functionalities of an on-board computer (OBC). The communications module handles TC and TM data and it is an interface between the radio transceiver and the emulated OBC. The emulated OBC is based on the ECSS Telemetry & Telecommand Packet Utilization Standard (PUS), and it performs the validation of the routed telecommand received, and the packaging of the telemetry data acquired by the available sensors. The proposed architecture allows testing all the implementations, exercising its functionalities, and also the module’s integration as a payload of the FloripaSat mission.

On-board reconfiguration of FPGAs on a spacecraft offers the important advantage of allowing the reuse of the same hardware component for different functionalities during a mission. To be able to benefit from these features, a solution to cope with the challenges of using SRAMbased FPGAs in a radiation environment is required, and at the same time it is desired that the FPGA reconfiguration takes place at high speed. The BRAVE NG-MEDIUM FPGA offers a solution for this problem, by combining being radiation-hardened by design and reconfiguration of the programmable logic via a high-speed communication protocol, namely SpaceWire. In this paper we compare the performance of SpaceWire with Joint Test Action Group (JTAG) for NG-MEDIUM reconfiguration, in terms of the time elapsed when uploading a bitstream file from a Central Processing Unit (in our case from a computer) to the Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and the time needed for uploading such bitstream and configuring the FPGA with the uploaded bitstream.

- Abstract
The main physics goal of the NA62 experiment at CERN is to precisely measure the branching ratio of the Kaon rare decay K+→π+νν. This decay is strongly suppressed in the Standard Model. On the other hand its branching ratio is calculated with high accuracy. NA62 is designed to measure the K+→π+νν decay rate with an uncertainty better than 10%. The measurement can serve as a probe to some new physics phenomena, which can alter the decay rate. The NA62 experiment has been successfully launched in October 2014. The theory framework as well as the NA62 detector and the preliminary results are reviewed in this article.

Looking for phenomena beyond the Standard Model (SM) in rare decays is a complementary approach to direct searches for New Physics (NP) at colliders. One of the theoretically cleanest processes is the ultra rare decay K+ → π+νν. The goal of the NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is to measure the branching ratio (BR) of this decay with 10% precision. The experiment has been launched in 2014. In 2015, the detector was commissioned at a low intensity beam. The experimental setup is described and performances achieved in 2015 are discussed in view of the final measurement.

- Abstract
Social media has been incorporated increasingly in society day to day lives. The emergence of social media has changed how people interact with and search for information about destinations. This thesis looks into the perspective of Instagram users’ on destination image formation through Instagram posts in accounts that only post about traveling. It researches how people perceive a destination and the values that they construct a destination image upon based on their experience on Instagram. It aims to discover how the virtual experience on the social platform, Instagram, is perceived by its users and to explore what values on destination image are constructed through this experience. The analysis and findings reach the conclusions that there are several values in which an Instagram user base their destination image, from enjoyment to authenticity, on Instagram posts and their overall routine and experience in this social media site (SNS) that leads to the construction of a destination image. The Instagram interaction presented here enables the users to create an image on a destination based on what was being shown by these accounts and how they perceive it.
