Abstract High‐pressure chemistry has provided a huge boost to the development of scientific community. Pressure‐induced emission (PIE) in halide perovskites is gradually showing its unique charm in both pressure sensing and optoelectronic device applications. Moreover, the PIE retention of halide perovskites under ambient conditions is of great commercial value. Herein, we mainly focus on the potential applications of PIE and PIE retention in metal halide perovskites for scintillators and solid‐state lighting. Based on the performance requirements of scintillator and single‐component white light‐emitting diodes (WLEDs), the significance of PIE and PIE retention is critically clarified, aiming to design and synthesize materials used for high‐performance optoelectronic devices. This perspective not only demonstrates promising applications of PIE in the fields of scintillators and WLEDs, but also provides potential applications in display imaging and anti‐counterfeiting of PIE materials. Furthermore, solving the scientific disputes that exist under ambient conditions is also simply discussed as an outlook by introducing high‐pressure dimension to produce PIE.

Flat-panel x-ray scintillators with a high spatial resolution at a low radiation dose rate are desirable for efficient imaging applications in medical diagnostics, security inspection, and nondestructive inspection. To promote the progress of x-ray imaging technologies, it is of great interest to explore transparent scintillators with reduced light scattering, high light yields, and uniform radioluminescence. Herein, we design and prepare a novel lead-free (C12H28N)2Cu2I4 metal halide featuring a high luminescent efficiency and white emission benefiting from the double self-trapped exciton mechanism, which enable to not only match the response of semiconductor-based sensors but also enhance light yields and decrease exposed doses to objects. Furthermore, transparent, and flexible scintillators with large areas of 20.25 cm2 demonstrate an outstanding scintillation performance including a high spatial resolution of 19.8 lp mm−1 and an ultralow detection limit of 28.39 nGyair s−1, which are ∼4 times higher and 194 times lower than typical values for medical imaging, respectively. Fast and high‐linearity detection of fast neutron is vital for special nuclear material seeking, nuclear accident emergency response, nondestructive neutron imaging, and neutron cancer therapy. Neutron scintillators with fast time resolution and linear energy response are indispensable for precisely acquiring the energy and temporal evolution of fast neutron, but none of the conventional neutron scintillators, whether organic, two‐component or inorganic, have performed well in this regard. To address these challenges, it is urgent to develop novel neutron scintillators. Here, 2D hybrid perovskite single crystals (C4H12N)2PbBr4 (BA2PbBr4) successfully combined with fast response time of 2.66 ns and linear energy response to fast neutrons, γ ray, and α particle, is reported. The rapid response time and linear energy response of 2D hybrid perovskite scintillator originate from intensive states density of lead halide frameworks, which are the key fluorescence emitters under neutron irradiation. This effectively suppresses the ionization quenching effect during the fluorescence process. This work represents a milestone in fast neutron detection, demonstrating a new type of neutron scintillator based on 2D hybrid perovskite single crystals with fast and high‐linearity detection characteristics, having great potential in high precision neutron spectrum measurement and nuclear reaction kinetics monitoring. With the increasing demands of X‐ray detection and medical diagnosis, organic scintillators with intense and tunable X‐ray excited emission have been becoming important. To guarantee the X‐ray absorption, heavy atoms were widely added in reported organic scintillators, which led to emission quenching. In this work, we propose a new strategy to realize organic scintillators through the host‐guest doping strategy. Then the X‐ray absorption centers (host) and emission centers (guest) are separated. Under X‐ray excitation, these materials displayed intense and readily tunable emissions ranging from green (520 nm) to near infrared (NIR) regions (682 nm). Besides, the relationship between the X‐ray absorption and spatial arrangement of the heavy atoms in the host matrix was also revealed. The potential application of these wide‐range color tunable organic host‐guest scintillators in X‐ray imaging were demonstrated. Lead perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) have shown great potential for optoelectronic device applications due to their excellent optoelectronic properties. However, the application of PNCs is significantly limited due to the inferior stability resulting from the highly dynamic ligands on the surface. Herein, poly(maleic anhydride‐alt‐1‐octadecene) (PMAO) with low molecular weight (Mn = 1911) is synthesized by copolymerization and used as multi‐dentate ligands to prepare CsPbBr3 PNCs via hot injection. The PNCs exhibit excellent water resistance, which maintains fluorescence for 2600 min while conventional PNCs are completely destroyed after 100 min. Density functional theory calculations demonstrate that PMAO as a multi‐dentate ligand has higher adsorption energy to the surface of PNCs. Due to the large amount of extra anhydride structure of PMAO, PMAO‐PNCs are used as a cross‐linking agent to directly prepare flexible films by an in situ one‐step polymerization reaction with 1,3‐bis(3‐aminopropyl) polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS‐NH2). The fluorescent flexible films show great potential for applications including X‐ray imaging scintillators and flexible light‐emitting diodes (LEDs). Copper(I) halide cluster‐based coordination compounds have attracted significant attention in the development of novel scintillators due to their mild synthesis methods, high luminescence efficiency, tunable emission wavelength, high‐Z element incorporation, and large structural diversity. However, a major obstacle for these crystalline materials with covalent/coordination network structures is their insolubility, which poses significant challenges for the low‐cost and large‐scale production of scintillation films. In this study, copper(I) iodide and benzotriazole derivative ligands with diverse cationic substituents are employed to fabricate all‐in‐one (AIO) colloidal copper(I) iodide cluster‐based scintillator suspensions. These suspensions, characterized by distinctive ionic and coordination bonds, are synthesized via confined growth in the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). Furthermore, they demonstrate exceptional compatibility with polymer matrices, facilitating the production of uniform and flexible scintillation films with highly efficient radioluminescence through blade coating. The resulting films achieved an excellent spatial resolution of 17 lp mm−1. This surfactant‐assisted fabrication method for colloidal scintillators, combined with microelectronic printing for film preparation, demonstrates significant potential for developing flexible scintillation films for high‐resolution X‐ray imaging. Er3+ doped high density germanate glasses with compositions of 50GeO 2 -10BaO–10Al 2 O 3 -15Lu 2 O 3 -(15-x) La 2 O 3 -xEr 2 O 3 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0, in mol%) have been prepared by the melt-quenching method. The optical and physical properties of the samples were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), density, transmittance spectra, photoluminescence (PL) spectra, and X-ray excited luminescence (XEL) spectra. The densities were in the range from 5.90 to 6.07 g/cm3. The strong green emissions around 552 nm of Er3+ were observed upon the excitations of 378 nm light and the X-ray, and the lifetimes of 552 nm emission were in the range of 20.88–96.47 μs. The results show that Er3+ doped high density germanate glasses could be used as potential scintillators for X-ray CT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Scintillators, which can convert high‐energy particles (X‐rays) into detectable low‐energy ultraviolet–visible–near‐infrared photons, are essential components of X‐ray detectors and show extensive practical applications in nondestructive detection and medical imaging. Traditionally, inorganic scintillators represented by CsI:Tl have achieved definite progress. However, the harsh preparation conditions, high production cost, and poor mechanical properties impede their potential development in the high‐end X‐ray imaging field. Organic–inorganic hybrid metal complexes could be excellent alternatives, by virtue of their structural and spectral tunability, good solution processability, and excellent photophysical properties. This review mainly focuses on eco‐friendly lead‐free metal (Mn2+, Cu+, Sb3+, Sn2+, Ge2+, Ln3+, etc.) complex scintillators. The luminescence mechanisms are introduced and the scintillation performance, such as light yield, limit of detection, imaging resolution, etc., is highlighted. Moreover, the current challenges and perspectives in this emerging field are described.
