How plant traits respond to environment changes has been given more concerns worldwide. However, it is hard to reveal the integrative responses of plants only based on independent plant traits without considering the close links among plant traits. Plant trait network (PTN) is emerging as a new way to study how plant traits adapt to changing environment and to find out the key plant trait. We collected soil and plant samples from five sampling zones in Suaeda salsa wetlands of the Yellow River Delta in China to construct hydrological connectivity index (HCI) by principal component analysis of eight indicators. PTNs were estimated by network analysis of nine plant traits. The results showed that five study areas had significant different HCIs. The PTNs showed the max tightness in areas with medium HCI and the complexity of PTNs decreased with the rise of HCI. Generally, PTNs exhibited the best performance in the areas with medium HCI in which were the most appropriate for plants to grow. Plant aboveground biomass was the central trait PTNs since it had a high degree as well as betweenness centrality. The findings indicate that Suaeda salsa takes different growth strategies under different hydrological connectivity conditions. Suaeda salsa enhanced the connections of different traits in areas which were the best for plants to grow while Suaeda salsa formed different groups of function modules in areas where hydrological connectivity was weak. The effects of long-term fertilization on soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN), and soybean yield stability were studied in semiarid areas of China for optimizing soil fertilization and obtaining stable and efficient soybean yield. SOC, TN, and soybean yields in different soil layers were measured after performing nine fertilization treatments for 5 consecutive years. The results showed that CK treatment (1,264.2 kg·hm-2) was significantly lower than other treatments. Under the combination of organic and inorganic treatments, the interannual variation of soybean yield under treatment with organic fertilizer combined with nitrogen and phosphate fertilizer was smaller, while the stability and sustainability indices were higher. The organic carbon and TN contents in surface soil (0-20 cm) showed an increasing trend with different fertilization. There was a significant positive linear correlation between SOC and TN contents in topsoil (0-20 cm) (P < 0.01; correlation coefficient = 0.947**). The yield of soybean increased with the increase of SOC and TN contents in topsoil (0-20 cm), with a significant positive correlation between them (P < 0.05). The yield of soybean increased with the increase of SOC and TN contents in surface soil (20-40 cm), although no significant positive correlation between SOC and TN contents was observed. To define the role of organic or inorganic fertilizers in the stability and sustainability of soil organic carbon (SOC) and crop yield, we examined changes in SOC and crop yield, as well as their correlation, in nine different fertilization treatments (sheep manure [M], sheep manure and urea [MN], sheep manure and diammonium phosphate [MP], sheep manure, urea, and diammonium phosphate [MNP], urea and diammonium phosphate [NP], urea and potassium sulfate [NK], diammonium phosphate and potassium sulfate [PK], diammonium phosphate, urea, and potassium sulfate [NPK], no fertilizer [CK]) from 2015 to 2018 on the Loess Plateau. The organic carbon content was higher in organic fertilizer (M, MNP, MP, MN) than in inorganic fertilizer treatments (NP, NPK, NK, PK) and the control. Crop yield was higher for organic than for inorganic fertilizers, whereas that of the control was always lower than those in the fertilization treatments. The highest crop yield was obtained in MNP. Crop yield and soil organic matter quality score correlated positively, with correlation coefficients ranging from 0.5994 to 0.7151. Our results provide a theoretical basis for organic and inorganic fertilizer application in dry farming areas on the Loess Plateau and aid the long-term healthy development of soil in cultivated areas. The aim of the study was to investigate the incidence of, and trends in, congenital anomalies in Central China from 1997 to 2019. This was a descriptive study. We collected data describing 4,134,098 births from 75 hospital monitoring sites in Henan Province, Central China, from 1997 to 2019. A joinpoint regression model was used to analyze the continuous changes. There were 4,134,098 births recorded from 1997 to 2019, of which 50,646 noted the presence of congenital anomalies (incidence: 122.5 per 10,000). The incidence of congenital anomalies was found to have increased over time (P- trend <0.05). Congenital anomaly incidence in urban areas was higher than that in rural areas (155.3 per 10,000 vs 100.7 per 10,000; P < 0.001). Moreover, incidence was higher in males than in females (129.1 per 10,000 vs 112.9 per 10,000; P < 0.001). The incidence of neural tube defects significantly reduced from 1997 to 2019 (39.3 per 10,000 in 1997 vs 0.92 per 10,000 in 2019, P- trend <0.001), whereas the incidence of congenital heart disease (CHD) increased (5.56 per 10,000 in 2010 to 136.46 per 10,000 in 2019), which meant that CHD was the most common congenital anomaly post-2013. Yesso scallop (Patinopecten yessoensis) is one of the most important cultured mollusc in China. However, the diseases of Yesso scallops, especially abscess disease, occurred frequently and led to massive mortality in recent years. In the present study, 20 bacterial strains were isolated and characterized from the adductor muscle of moribund Yesso scallops in the North Yellow Sea to identify the potential pathogens, and 14 of them were grouped into genus Vibrio. Vibrio neocaledonicus (M-08 strain) was found to be the most dominant strain, and it was able to survive and exhibit haemolytic activity from 8 °C to 36 °C with the highest activity at 32 °C. The pathogenicity of M-08 in Yesso scallops was further investigated by intravalvar injection and immersion challenges, and the cumulative mortality rates were calculated to be 93 % and 53 %, respectively. The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) increased after M-08 intravalvar injection, and peaked at 3 h and 6 h, respectively. The MDA contents increased and were significantly higher than that in the control group at 3 h after M-08 intravalvar injection. Immediately afterwards, immune response and haemocyte apoptosis were observed in Yesso scallops. Therefore, V. neocaledonicus is the pathogen of abscess disease in the Yesso scallops, which was able to activate the antioxidant system and immune response, and cause haemocyte apoptosis, tissue damage and death sequentially. Secondary lower extremity lymphedema is a common complication of treatment for gynecological cancers. Conservative therapy plays an important role in the treatment of patients with secondary lower extremity lymphedema; in particular, complex decongestive therapy (CDT) has been recognized as an effective nonoperative technique for these patients. But CDT therapy for secondary lower extremity lymphedema remains a problem in China because this technique and its effectiveness have not achieved widespread use and popularity. Our goal was to assess effects of CDT in patients with secondary lower limb lymphedema after treatment for gynecological cancers. The retrospective study consisted of 60 patients who were treated with 20 sessions of CDT. Assessments included objective changes in limb circumference, degree of LE, imaging features, and incidence of erysipelas before and after CDT treatment. We found that CDT can effectively improve lymph stasis and promote backflow, and decrease circumference, interstitial fluid content, and incidence of erysipelas of lymphedematous lower limb. Our results demonstrate that CDT is an effective treatment method for patients with secondary lower limb lymphedema following treatment for gynecologic cancers. A regional synthesis of organic carbon (OC) burial was conducted using a comprehensive data set to reveal some of the key drivers and human multi‐stressors controlling OC burial and transport in the Eastern China Marginal Seas (ECMS). Both OC and Δ14C values of suspended particulate matter (SPM) in the Changjiang River, were significantly higher than estuarine mobile‐muds, suggesting selective decay of more labile younger OC from both marine and terrestrial sources and the accumulation of more recalcitrant older OC. Some of this decay is likely to be associated with iron‐redox cycling in mobile‐muds. In contrast, OC, δ13C, and Δ14C values increased along the Yellow River sediment dispersal pathway, indicating adding of young marine OC and less decay of terrestrial OC. OC burial efficiency in mud areas in the Bohai Sea (∼43%) was significantly higher than those in the Yellow (∼11%) and East China Seas (∼16%), owing to rapid deposition. Burial flux of biospheric OC in mud areas of the ECMS is 7.00 ± 0.79 Mt yr−1, corresponding to atmospheric CO2 drawdown by silicate weathering in major river drainage basins of mainland China. The burial flux of petrogenic OC was estimated to be 0.81 ± 0.25 Mt yr−1, accounting for >1.9% of total burial in the global ocean. While the ECMS is an important OC sink, river damming has greatly reduced OC burial. Thus, the overall impact on anthropogenically altered river‐dominated marginal seas remains an important and rapidly changing component of the coastal ocean carbon budget. Variation of OC content and carbon isotopic composition from suspended particulate matter to mobile muds, in Changjiang sediment dispersal pathways, indicated selective decomposition of younger more labile marine and terrestrial OC, which resulted in the accumulation of older more recalcitrant OC. However, continuous adding of young marine OC, with little loss of terrestrial OC, in Yellow River sediment dispersal pathway, resulted in more recalcitrant terrestrial OC buried in this relatively more quiescent sedimentary regime. Burial efficiencies of OC from different sources in the ECMS were mainly controlled by OC reactivity and sediment mixing dynamics. The ECMS is an important sink of both petrogenic and biospheric OC over a timescale of ∼100 years. However, dam building in river basins has reduced sediment loads of the Changjiang and Yellow Rivers, which will continually decrease OC burial in the ECMS for decades to come. The changing residence time and redox pathways in these sedimentary regimes, partly controlled by increasing human stressors in the ECMS, are expected to have an important impact on rates of OC turnover and burial in marginal seas. Onchocerciasis in camels is caused by adult Onchocerca spp. and results in great economic losses to the camel industry. However, only a few studies on Onchocerca have been conducted, especially regarding the intermediate host and vector(s). In the present study, 192 camels were examined from December and January during 2013 and 2016, and the filarial larvae suspected to be Onchocerca spp. were further identified. Furthermore, aquatic dipteran insects in the living environment of camels were collected from May to September between 2013 and 2017 and dissected. Eventually, onchocercal lesions were observed in 95 of 192 (49%) camels and the captured insects were classified into 49 species from 42 genera in 21 families, among which 18 species were newly recorded in Inner Mongolia and 14 were haematophagous species. The filarial larvae were found in Culicoides puncticollis and identified as Onchocerca fasciata, indicating that C. puncticollis is the vector of O. fasciata in Inner Mongolia. These findings provide an estimate of onchocerciasis infection in camels and an alternative method of identifying insects and screening vectors using molecular methods. Important data are also provided for the diagnosis and control of onchocerciasis, thereby further filling the gap in knowledge regarding transmission vectors in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: Growth and fatness traits are complex and economically important traits in the pig industry. The molecular basis underlying porcine growth and fatness traits remains largely unknown. To uncover genetic loci and candidate genes for these traits, we explored the GeneSeek GGP Porcine 80K SNP chip to perform a GWAS for seven growth and fatness traits in 365 individuals from the Sujiang pig, a recently developed breed in China. We identified two, 17, one and 11 SNPs surpassing the suggestively significant threshold (P < 1.86 × 10−5) for body weight, chest circumference, chest width and backfat thickness respectively. Of these SNPs, 20 represent novel genetic loci, and five and four SNPs were respectively associated with chest circumference and backfat thickness at a genome‐wide significant threshold (P < 9.31 × 10−7). Eight SNPs had a pleiotropic effect on both chest circumference and backfat thickness. The most remarkable locus resided in a region between 72.95 and 76.27 Mb on pig chromosome 4, harboring a number of previously reported quantitative trait loci related to backfat deposition. In addition to two reported genes (PLAG1 and TAS2R38), we identified four genes including GABRB3, ZNF106, XKR4 and MGAM as novel candidates for body weight and backfat thickness at the mapped loci. Acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) are a group of common diseases with a high incidence that cause tremendous pressure on the healthcare system globally. Patrinia Herba (Bai Jiang Cao) has a long history of use in China. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the clinical effectiveness and safety of Patrinia Herba for ARTIs. We searched the Chinese and English databases from their inception to March 2022 for clinical studies that tested single-herb preparations or formulae containing Patrinia Herba for ARTIs. We used the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 and non-randomised studies as intervention tools for quality assessment. The review protocol was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42021260330). Six trials (2 107 participants) were identified. Two trials were pooled. The results showed that, in adults and children with influenza, single Patrinia Herba granules or injections improved the participants' feelings of aversion to cold, general malaise, nasal obstruction, runny nose, sore throat, cough, headache, and dizziness after a two-day treatment. For adults and children with pneumonia, Patrinia Herba compound preparations plus antibiotics appeared better than antibiotics alone in relieving fever, cough, shortness of breath, and chest pain. The overall methodological quality of the included randomised controlled trials was rated as unclear, low, or moderate for controlled clinical trials. No severe adverse events were reported. Low- or moderate-quality evidence demonstrates that single herb or compound preparations of Patrinia Herba may be effective for ARTIs in terms of symptom remission. The soft tick Argas japonicus mainly infests birds and can cause human dermatitis; however, no pathogen has been identified from this tick species in China. In the present study, the microbiota in A. japonicus collected from an epidemic community was explored, and some putative Rickettsia pathogens were further characterized. The results obtained indicated that bacteria in A. japonicus were mainly ascribed to the phyla Proteobacteria, Firmicutes and Actinobacteria. At the genus level, the male A. japonicus harboured more diverse bacteria than the females and nymphs. The bacteria Alcaligenes, Pseudomonas, Rickettsia and Staphylococcus were common in nymphs and adults. The abundance of bacteria belonging to the Rickettsia genus in females and males was 7.27% and 10.42%, respectively. Furthermore, the 16S rRNA gene of Rickettsia was amplified and sequenced, and phylogenetic analysis revealed that 13 sequences were clustered with the spotted fever group rickettsiae (Rickettsia heilongjiangensis and Rickettsia japonica) and three were clustered with Rickettsia limoniae, which suggested that the characterized Rickettsia in A. japonicus were novel putative pathogens and also that the residents were at considerable risk for infection by tick‐borne pathogens. A field investigation on the actual protective performance of a flexible rockfall barrier along a mountain road in western China is presented in this paper. The total area of the flexible rockfall barrier under investigation was approximately 20,000 m2. Five typical failure modes of the flexible rockfall barrier were revealed, including steel post buckling, connection failure, ring net destruction, steel cable rope breakage and anchorage point failure. In addition, component rusting, which leads to decrease in durability, was noted. Furthermore, failure mechanisms were analysed, and the main factors that were found to induce flexible rockfall barrier failure included the sliding capacity of the cable ropes at the end post support positions, the boundary conditions of the steel posts and the compatibility between the energy dissipating devices and connected cable ropes. From these observations, corresponding design strategies were proposed. In addition, an improved flexible rockfall barrier system was constructed, and its effectiveness was verified by a full-scale impact test using 5000 kJ of impact energy. Finally, the impact deflection, impact force, cable force and energy dissipation of the improved flexible rockfall barrier system were studied in combination with a non-linear numerical simulation which could be a useful tool for design of flexible barrier systems. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether the non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) introduced to curb the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) also interrupted the transmission of influenza. This is a descriptive epidemiological study. Data on changes in the number of reported influenza cases, number of influenza-like illness (ILI) visits, ILI percentage and influenza virus positivity were compared between the first 18 weeks of 2020 and the same period of 2019. The changes in the weekly average number of influenza cases were statistically significant between 2020 and 2019 (−4319 vs −525 per week; P < 0.05). The slopes of regression lines for the number of ILI visits were also statistically significant between 2020 and 2019 (−911 vs −98 per week; P < 0.05). Glanzmann's thrombasthenia (GT) is a rare bleeding disorder characterized by spontaneous mucocutaneous bleeding. The disorder is caused by quantitative or qualitative defects in integrin αIIbβ3 (encoded by ITGA2B and ITGB3) on the platelet and is more common in consanguineous populations. However, the prevalence rate and clinical characteristics of GT in non‐consanguineous populations have been unclear. We analyzed 97 patients from 93 families with GT in the Han population in China. This analysis showed lower consanguinity (18.3%) in Han patients than other ethnic populations in GT‐prone countries. Compared with other ethnic populations, there was no significant difference in the distribution of GT types. Han females suffered more severe bleeding and had a poorer prognosis. We identified a total of 43 different ITGA2B and ITGB3 variants, including 25 previously unidentified, in 45 patients. These variants included 14 missense, 4 nonsense, 4 frameshift, and 3 splicing site variants. Patients with the same genotype generally manifested the same GT type but presented with different bleeding severities. This suggests that GT clinical phenotype does not solely depend on genotype. This study aimed to examine whether awareness of cancer diagnosis and prognosis among patients with stage IV lung cancer treated with first-line erlotinib vary with psychological distress and quality of life (QoL). This study was carried out at the Comprehensive treatment Department of Tianjin Cancer Hospital between August 2013 and September 2015 among patients ≥18 years-old and suffering from EGFR mutation-positive stage IV non-small cell lung cancer ( NSCLC) treated with first-line erlotinib (150 mg/day; N = 137). The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale ( HADS) was administered before (baseline) and after 12 weeks of treatment. QoL was assessed using the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Lung ( FACT-L) questionnaire. Diagnosis and prognosis awareness was assessed by interview. Among patients, 21% reported to be fully aware of their disease; 41% were only aware of the diagnosis, not the stage; and 51% were not aware at all. Among patients, 63.5% reported elevated anxiety, 71.5% were depressed, and 75.2% had HADS score ≥15 (emotional distress). Patients who were totally and partly aware experienced improvements in HADS and FACT-L compared with baseline (all p < .05). Patients who were not aware scored better than the other patients for all FACT-L subscales from baseline to 12 weeks (all p < .05). Aware patients experienced improvements from baseline in HADS and FACT-L (all p < .05). Awareness of cancer diagnosis and stage was associated with initially high global distress and poorer QoL. Unaware patients exhibited better emotional distress and QoL during first-line therapy with erlotinib for EGFR mutation-positive advanced NSCLC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Brucellosis is an occupational disease affecting workers in butcher shops, the milking and dairy product industry, causing more than 500 000 new cases around the world. As a national statutory B infectious disease in China, morbidity of brucellosis is rapidly increasing in recent years. We report an occupational outbreak of brucellosis infection in a pharmaceutical factory. Exposure was a result of manual operation in the process line, close contact with sheep placentas, insufficient disinfection and repeated using of protective suits and infected by aerosol dissemination. Aims To examine the association between sleep disturbances during pregnancy and risk of gestational diabetes mellitus. Methods From 2010 to 2012, 12 506 women in Tianjin, China, were screened using a 50-g 1-h glucose challenge test at 24-28 weeks' gestation. Those with glucose challenge test values of ≥ 7.8 mmol/l were invited to further undergo a 75-g 2-h oral glucose tolerance test. Gestational diabetes was determined according to the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Group's definition. Self-reported sleep duration and sleep quality during pregnancy was documented using a modified questionnaire. Logistic regression was used to obtain odds ratios and 95% CIs. Results A total of 919 women (7.3%) had gestational diabetes. Sleep duration was found to have an approximate J-shaped association with gestational diabetes risk after adjusting for covariates. Compared with a sleep duration of 7-9 h/day (43% of 12 506 women), the adjusted odds ratios for sleep duration of ≥ 9 h/day (55%) and < 7 h/day (2%) for gestational diabetes were 1.21 (95% CI 1.03-1.42) and 1.36 (95% CI 0.87-2.14), respectively. Compared with good sleep quality (37.9% of 12 506 women), the adjusted odds ratios of moderate (59.9%) and poor sleep quality (2.2%) for gestational diabetes were 1.19 (95% CI 1.01-1.41) and 1.61 (95% CI 1.04-2.50), respectively. Conclusion In pregnant Chinese women, poor sleep quality, and shorter and longer duration of sleep during pregnancy were independently associated with an increased risk of gestational diabetes. Leymus chinensis is an important grass in China and Russia. Six lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains ( LB, LPL1, LPL2, LPL3, LCL and WH) from L. chinensis silage were screened and identified and their effects on fermentation quality were investigated. All six strains were grown at 6·5% NaCl and pH 4·00. Strains LPL1, LPL2 and LPL3 were identified as Lactobacillus plantarum, and LB, WH and LCL were classified as Lactobacillus brevis, Weissella hellenica and Lactobacillus casei respectively. The six isolated strains and a commercial inoculant ( Lactobacillus buchneri) were added to L. chinensis for ensiling at densities of 500 and 600 kg m−3. The control was sprayed with the same volume of distilled water. The effects of the strains on fermentation quality after 45 d ensiling and aerobic stability during 8 d of exposure to air were evaluated. The 600 kg m−3 silage had lower pH, butyric acid, ammonia nitrogen content and coliform bacteria counts than the 500 kg m−3 density silage ( P < 0·05). The six isolated strains decreased pH, butyric acid content and increased lactic acid content, and all inoculants increased L. chinensis silage aerobic stability except LCL ( P < 0·05). The fermentation quality of L. chinensis silage increased with higher ensiling density. The LAB strains improved the fermentation quality, and high-quality silage could be obtained at low ensiling density with the addition of the LAB strains. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a cancer that occurs in high frequency in Southern China. A previous functional complementation approach and the subsequent cDNA microarray analysis have identified that serum amyloid A1 (SAA1) is an NPC candidate tumor suppressor gene. SAA1 belongs to a family of acute-phase proteins that are encoded by five polymorphic coding alleles. The SAA1 genotyping results showed that only three SAA1 isoforms (SAA1.1, 1.3 and 1.5) were observed in both Hong Kong NPC patients and healthy individuals. This study aims to determine the functional role of SAA1 polymorphisms in tumor progression and to investigate the relationship between SAA1 polymorphisms and NPC risk. Indeed, we have shown that restoration of SAA1.1 and 1.3 in the SAA1-deficient NPC cell lines could suppress tumor formation and angiogenesis in vitro and in vivo. The secreted SAA1.1 and SAA1.3 proteins can block cell adhesion and induce apoptosis in the vascular endothelial cells. In contrast, the SAA1.5 cannot induce apoptosis or inhibit angiogenesis because of its weaker binding affinity to αVβ3 integrin. This can explain why SAA1.5 has no tumor-suppressive effects. Furthermore, the NPC tumors with this particular SAA1.5/1.5 genotype showed higher levels of SAA1 gene expression, and SAA1.1 and 1.3 alleles were preferentially inactivated in tumor tissues that were examined. These findings further strengthen the conclusion for the defective function of SAA1.5 in suppression of tumor formation and angiogenesis. Interestingly, the frequency of the SAA1.5/1.5 genotype in NPC patients was ~2-fold higher than in the healthy individuals (P=0.00128, odds ratio=2.28), which indicates that this SAA1 genotype is significantly associated with a higher NPC risk. Collectively, this homozygous SAA1.5/1.5 genotype appears to be a recessive susceptibility gene, which has lost the antiangiogenic function, whereas SAA1.1 and SAA1.3 are the dominant alleles of the tumor suppressor phenotype. This study aimed to explore associations of serum cluster of differentiation 44 (CD44) levels and its genetic variants in early pregnancy with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). We conducted a 1:1 case-control study (n = 414) nested in a prospective cohort of 22,302 pregnant women recruited from 2010 to 2012 in Tianjin, China. Blood samples were collected at the first antenatal care visit (at a median of 10 th gestational week). Binary conditional logistic regressions were performed to examine associations of serum CD44 levels and its genetic variants with increased risk of GDM. In this study, we found that serum CD44 levels in early pregnancy was associated with GDM risk in a U-shaped manner. High serum CD44 levels and its genetic risk score in early pregnancy were associated with markedly increased risk of GDM after adjustment for traditional confounders (OR: 1.95, 95%CI: 1.12-3.40 & 1.95, 1.05-3.61). Furthermore, after adjustment for serum CD44 levels, the OR of CD44 genetic risk score for GDM was slightly attenuated but not significant (1.84, 0.98-3.48). In conclusion, serum CD44 levels and its genetic variants in early pregnancy were associated with GDM risk in Chinese pregnant women, with the effect of CD44 genetic variants being accounted for by serum CD44. SIGNIFICANCE: Recent studies suggested that pregnant women with GDM may have abnormal levels of CD44 and abnormal expression of CD44 gene, but it is uncertain whether abnormal CD44 plays a causal role in occurrence of GDM. Specifically, it remains unknown whether serum CD44 levels in early pregnancy and its genetic variants can predict the later occurrence of GDM. In this study, we found that high serum CD44 levels in early pregnancy and its genetic variants were associated with markedly increased risk of GDM in Chinese pregnant women, with the effect of CD44 genetic variants being largely accounted for by serum CD44 levels. Our study is the first reporting that serum CD44 levels and its genetic variants were associated with markedly increased risk of GDM. These multi-omics risk markers may be useful for identification of women at high risk of GDM in early pregnancy. Background: Tai Chi (TC) holds a unique and valued place in promoting the physical and mental health of college students. Its significance is underscored by its incorporation as a compulsory physical education course in every university in China. TC, with its rich tradition, places a strong emphasis on posture control as a core sports ability. However, the students in Tai Chi Elective Course (TCEC) have very poor posture control ability. This study protocol investigates the potential of Tan Tui (TT) to address these issues, as TT is a fundamental skill for beginners of traditional Chinese martial arts and has a track record of enhancing lower limb strength and balance, making it a promising choice for improving posture control in TCEC., Methods/design: To investigate the impact of different intensities of TT exercises on posture control in TCEC students, we have designed a randomized, double-blind, parallel-controlled trial. Seventy-six students in the TCEC will be randomly divided into low-intensity Tan Tui (LTT), medium-intensity Tan Tui (MTT), and high-intensity Tan Tui exercises group (HTT) and control group (CON), each with 19 people. The LTT group, MTT group, and HTT group will be given different intensity of TT exercises, and the CON group will be given regular TCEC. The intervention period will be 6 weeks (2 times a week, 20 min each time). At baseline (before), 4 weeks of intervention (middle), and 6 weeks of intervention (after), the Unipedal Stance Test (UST), the Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT), 60°/s angular velocity knee joint flexion and extension relative peak torque (RPT), and knee joint position perception (KJPP) will be evaluated., Discussion: This is the first randomized controlled trial protocol from the perspective of training intensity to evaluate the effect of different intensity of TT exercises on posture control of students in TCEC. Aims: This study addresses the essential need for updated information on the burden of lip and oral cavity cancer (LOC) in China for informed healthcare planning. We aim to estimate the temporal trends and the attributable burdens of selected risk factors of LOC in China (1990-2021), and to predict the possible trends (2022-2031)., Subject and Methods: Analysis was conducted using data from the Global Burden of Disease study (GBD) 2021, encompassing six key metrics: incidence, mortality, prevalence, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), years lived with disability (YLDs), and years of life lost (YLLs). Absolute number and age-standardized rates, alongside 95% uncertainty intervals, were computed. Forecasting of disease burden from 2022 to 2031 was performed using an autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model., Results: Over the observed period (1990-2021), there were notable increases in the number of deaths (142.2%), incidence (283.7%), prevalence (438.0%), DALYs (109.2%), YLDs (341.2%), and YLLs (105.1%). Age-standardized rates demonstrated notable changes, showing decreases and increases of -5.8, 57.3, 143.7, -8.9%, 85.8%, and - 10.7% in the respective metrics. The substantial majority of LOC burden was observed among individuals aged 40-79 years, and LOC may exhibit a higher burden among males in China. From 2022 to 2031, the age-standardized rate of incidence, prevalence, and YLDs of LOC showed upward trends; while mortality, DALYs, and YLLs showed downward trends, and their estimated values were predicted to change to 2.72, 10.47, 1.11, 1.10, 28.52, and 27.43 per 100,000 in 2031, respectively. Notably, tobacco and high alcohol use emerged as predominant risk factors contributing to the burden of LOC., Conclusion: Between 1990 and 2021, the disability burden from LOC in China increased, while the death burden decreased, and projections suggest these trends will persist over the next decade. A significant portion of this disease burden to modifiable risk factors, specifically tobacco use and excessive alcohol consumption, predominantly affecting males and individuals aged 40-79 years. Background: Breast cancer (BC) risk-stratification tools for Asian women that are highly accurate and can provide improved interpretation ability are lacking. We aimed to develop risk-stratification models to predict long- and short-term BC risk among Chinese women and to simultaneously rank potential non-experimental risk factors., Methods: The Breast Cancer Cohort Study in Chinese Women, a large ongoing prospective dynamic cohort study, includes 122,058 women aged 25-70 years old from the eastern part of China. We developed multiple machine-learning risk prediction models using parametric models (penalized logistic regression, bootstrap, and ensemble learning), which were the short-term ensemble penalized logistic regression (EPLR) risk prediction model and the ensemble penalized long-term (EPLT) risk prediction model to estimate BC risk. The models were assessed based on calibration and discrimination, and following this assessment, they were externally validated in new study participants from 2017 to 2020., Results: The AUC values of the short-term EPLR risk prediction model were 0.800 for the internal validation and 0.751 for the external validation set. For the long-term EPLT risk prediction model, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.692 and 0.760 in internal and external validations, respectively. The net reclassification improvement index of the EPLT relative to the Gail and the Han Chinese Breast Cancer Prediction Model (HCBCP) models for external validation was 0.193 and 0.233, respectively, indicating that the EPLT model has higher classification accuracy., Conclusions: We developed the EPLR and EPLT models to screen populations with a high risk of developing BC. The relative importance of each sediment physicochemical property to sediment heavy-metal (HM) contents has not yet been quantitatively evaluated. Differences in the HM contents of mangrove surface sediments among the high, middle, and low intertidal zones, and their quantitative relationships to sediment physicochemical properties, were investigated in Dongzhaigang and Qinglan Harbor reserves, Hainan, China. In both reserves, the Cu and Ni concentrations increased significantly from the low to high intertidal zones; the patterns of change in the Mn and Pb contents were opposite in the two reserves. The Cr concentration was significantly lower and the Pb concentration was significantly higher in the dry season than in the wet season. Ecological risks of HM were higher in Dongzhaigang than in Qinglan Harbor. Most previous studies on the association between vegetarian diet and inflammation have used only one inflammatory biomarker e.g., C-reactive protein (CRP) and the findings were generally inconsistent. Therefore, we conducted a cross-sectional study to investigate the correlation between diet and inflammation in Chinese vegetarians using dietary indices and multiple inflammatory biomarkers. 279 vegetarians and omnivores of the same sex and age recruited in Shanghai, 2016. 24-h dietary review questionnaire was collected and used to calculate Dietary inflammatory index (DII) and Energy-adjusted inflammatory index (E-DII) of both groups. In addition, energy intake matched vegetarian and omnivore recipes were designed by registed dietitions and used to calculate a theoretical DII. Five serum inflammatory biomarkers CRP, interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were measured. We found that vegetarians had significantly lower E-DII and theoretical DII than omnivores (P < 0.001). In contrast, the raw DII of vegetarians was almost the same with that of omnivores, probably due to lower energy intake in vegetarians than in omnivores (1367.97 ± 479.75 vs. 1724.78 ± 568.13, P < 0.001). Levels of TNF-α, IL-6, NLR and PLR were significantly higher in vegetarians than in omnivores while no statistical differences were found in CRP. In conclusion, a theoretical vegetarian diet with adequate energy intake as well as a balanced dietary intake showed good anti-inflammatory effects, though this was not fully reflected in vegetarian population in the real world, probably due to insufficient energy intake in the vegetarian population., (© 2024. Background: TCbHP (taxane + carboplatin + trastuzumab + pertuzumab) is the preferred neoadjuvant therapy regimen for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer. However, no consensus exists regarding whether specific populations may be exempt from carboplatin, allowing for de-escalation to the THP (taxane + trastuzumab + pertuzumab) regimen. Additionally, the optimal number of cycles for neoadjuvant THP remains unclear. We compared the efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant TCbHP and THP regimens, providing clinicians with a nuanced perspective to guide their treatment regimen selection., Methods: This multicenter real-world study included patients with HER2-positive breast cancer undergoing neoadjuvant TCbHP or THP between March 2019 and February 2023. Efficacy was assessed through the pathological complete response (pCR) rate, while safety was evaluated through monitoring adverse events., Results: Among 220 patients, 103 received 6 cycles of TCbHP (TCbHP×6), 83 received 6 cycles of THP (THP×6), and 34 received 4 cycles of THP (THP×4). The TCbHP×6 cohort exhibited a 66% pCR rate compared with 53% in the THP×6 cohort (P = 0.072). Subgroup analysis revealed that in patients aged ≤ 50 years, those with hormone receptor (HR)-negative status, and those with clinical stage T2, the pCR rate of the TCbHP×6 regimen was significantly higher than the THP×6 regimen (P < 0.05). The TCbHP×6 cohort reported higher frequencies of any-grade adverse events (99% versus 86.7%) and grade 3-4 events (49.5% versus 12%) than the THP×6 cohort. Propensity score matching identified 27 patient pairs between the THP×6 and THP×4 cohorts, indicating a significantly higher pCR rate for the THP×6 regimen than the THP×4 regimen (63% versus 29.6%, P = 0.029)., Conclusions: The TCbHP×6 regimen is favored for individuals aged ≤ 50 years and those aged > 50, ≤60 years with HR-negative status or clinical stage T2-4. For patients in compromised general condition or lacking the specified indications, the THP×6 regimen emerges as a lower-toxicity alternative with satisfactory efficacy. North China type coalfield are gradually mining deep, and the mixing of groundwater is intensified. Hydrogen and oxygen isotopes are important elements for tracing groundwater movement. The fractionation response mechanism under mining conditions is not clear. In this paper, combined with numerical simulation, MixSIAR isotope mixing model and other methods, according to the δD, δ 18 O and hydrochemical information of various water bodies, the impact of coal mining on hydrogen and oxygen isotope fractionation is analyzed from multiple perspectives. The results show that summer soil water is the main source of recharge for limestone water, accounting for 30.7%-41.5%, and the Zhan River is the main source of recharge for limestone water. Before groundwater recharge, evaporation leads to the increase of δ 18 O in surface water by 0.31‰-5.58‰, water loss by 1.81%-28.00%, the increase of δ 18 O in soil water by 0.47‰-6.33‰, and water loss by 2.74%-35.80%. Compared with the coal mining layer, the degree of hydrogen and oxygen isotope drift and water-rock interaction in the coal mine stopping layer are significantly improved. The results of numerical simulation show that the pumping activity reduces the 18 O concentration in the mining layer. The ion ratio is used as a new variable to eliminate the influence of water-rock interaction when calculating the mixing ratio. The results show that the limestone water is in a state of receiving external recharge, and mixing effect increases the δ 18 O in limestone water by 0.86‰ on average, and the δD increases by 0.72‰ on average. Increasingly severe flooding seriously threatens urban safety. A scientific urban flood-bearing vulnerability assessment model is significant to improve urban risk management capacity. The gray target model (GTM) has advantages in urban flood-bearing vulnerability assessment. However, indicator correlation and single bull's-eye are commonly neglected, leading to defective evaluation results. By integrating the four base weights, an improved weighting method based on the moment estimate was proposed. Then, the marginal distance was used to quantify the indicator correlation, and the TOPSIS model was introduced to define the relative bull's-eye distance. Thus, an improved gray target evaluation method was established. Finally, an urban flood-bearing vulnerability evaluation model was presented based on the moment estimate weighting-improved GTM. In this study, Zhengzhou City, China, was taken as an example. The spatial and temporal changing characteristics of the flood-bearing vulnerability of Zhengzhou from 2006 to 2020 were investigated. The results show that: (1) On the temporal scale, the disaster-bearing vulnerability of Zhengzhou City showed an upward trend during the 15 years; (2) On the spatial scale, Guancheng District of Zhengzhou City had the relatively highest vulnerability to urban flooding. Aims: To examine long-term risk of overweight in offspring of women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) defined by the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Group (IADPSG)'s criteria but not by the 1999 World Health Organization (WHO)'s criteria., Methods: We followed up 1681 mother-child pairs for 8 years in Tianjin, China. Overweight in children aged 1-5 and 6-8 were respectively defined as body mass index-for-age and -sex above the 2 z-score and 1 z-score curves of the WHO's child growth standards. Logistic regression was performed to obtain odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of hyperglycemia indices at oral glucose tolerance test and GDMs defined by different criteria for offspring overweight at different ages., Results: Offspring of women with fasting plasma glucose ≥5.1 mmol/L were at increased risk of overweight at 6-8 years old (OR:1.45, 95% CI: 1.09-1.93). Excessive nitrate input is one of the primary factors causing nearshore eutrophication. This study applied the nitrate stable isotope techniques to analyse the biogeochemical processes and sources of nitrate in the Bohai Sea (BHS). The results showed that intensive NO 3 - assimilation probably occurred at surface in summer, while nitrification primarily occurred in the Yellow River diluted water. In autumn, regional assimilation and nitrification were still identified. For avoiding the interference from assimilation, the isotopic fractionations were further calculated as correction data for the quantitative analysis of nitrate sources. The river inputs were identified as the primary source of nitrate in the BHS in summer and autumn, accounting for >50 %, and the atmospheric deposition was the secondary source. Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a serious neurodegenerative disease that brings great stress to the physical and mental health of patients. At the same time, long-term treatment will also bring great economic losses and social burden to the family and society, especially after COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study is to analyze the current status of stress perception and anxiety in patients with PD and explore the influencing factors after the COVID-19 pandemic., Methods: This study used the convenient sampling method to select the research objects of patients with PD who were outpatients or inpatients in a general public hospital in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, and the survey time was from February 2023 to March 2023. The measurements included the General information questionnaire, The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and The Self Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). SPSS 21.0 software was used for data statistical analysis., Result: 394 out of 420 patients with PD completed the questionnaire. The stress perception score of PD was (16.41 ± 6.435) and the anxiety score was (54.77 ± 10.477). The stress perception scores of patients with PD were significantly different in gender, age, educational, occupation, nature of costs, time of sleep, quality of sleep, duration of disease, way of medical treatment and anxiety level (p < 0.05). Among them, age, duration of disease, public expenses, online remote therapy and anxiety level were the main influencing factors of stress perception in patients with PD (p < 0.05). Besides, there were significant differences in gender, educational, nature of costs, time of sleep, quality of sleep and duration of disease in anxiety among patients with PD (p < 0.05)., Conclusion: After the COVID-19 pandemic, the level of stress perception and anxiety in patients with PD is high, and the influencing factors are complex., (© 2024. Background: The efforts to explore and build the structure of good doctor abilities are important because they help improve the quality of education for medical students and better standardize the working performance of doctors. However, at present, no worldwide standards for such a structure have been established. In this study, we endeavoured to map the structure of good doctor abilities and identify their effects., Methods: With a focus on China, a thematic content analysis was adopted in this study to analyse the personal profiles of 50 widely recognized good doctors. NVivo11 software was used., Results: The Structure and Effects of Good Doctor Abilities in China model was proposed, and interpretations were made based on AMO theory. Good doctor abilities fall within six categories: rigorous clinical thinking, skilled in diagnosis and therapy, clinical empathy, continuous learning and innovation, enhancing and sharing experiences, and communication and coordination. These abilities have positive impacts on doctors' work performances and social benefits by encouraging good behaviours, ultimately promoting the sustainable development of the hospitals where they serve., Conclusions: In this study, we established a model of the structure and effects of good-doctor abilities in China and interpreted its mechanism, innovation and theory diversification in "good-doctor" research. Green space exposure provides greater beneficial effects on residents compared to unnatural spaces, commonly referred to as "gray spaces". However, during rapid urbanization, gray spaces expand more quickly than green spaces, often encroaching upon and overtaking these natural environments. This unchecked growth leads to detrimental impacts on the human habitat and overall environmental quality. Consequently, it is essential to meticulously assess the spatial and temporal patterns of residents' exposure levels, as well as to thoroughly investigate the underlying driving mechanisms behind these changes. This study used population-weighted exposure level measurements to assess gray and green space exposure in Chinese cities in the early 21st Century (2000-2019). Additionally, the Gray-Green space Exposure Ratio (GER) was calculated, and the spatiotemporal driving mechanism of GER by each factor was analyzed by geostatistical modeling. The results show that gray space exposure is generally increasing in China, especially in eastern parts of China. The probability of exposure to gray spaces exceeds that of green spaces in some high urbanization rate cities. This trend will continue, albeit at a slower rate. Urban sprawl, built-up area density, and increased electricity consumption were the main drivers of rising GER, whereas greenspace integrity contributed to lower GER; the driving mechanisms for GER changes were spatiotemporal heterogeneous. Ecological well-being performance (EWP), a novel concept in sustainable development research, diverges from traditional ecological efficiency in terms of perspectives, core content, and driving factors. However, research on EWP remains insufficiently comprehensive, particularly the corresponding theoretical and methodological investigations into driving pathways. To address this gap, this study develops an "economy-environment-health" framework, incorporating air pollution and associated health losses into the evaluation system, and employs a two-stage Super-NSBM and Window DEA model for reevaluating EWP. The study further investigates the primary pathways of EWP, focusing on environmental regulations, technological innovation, and structural adjustments through both quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative spatial econometric analysis reveals that factors such as market-driven environmental regulations, green invention patents, and industrial and energy consumption structures significantly enhance EWP. While examining the "net effects" contributions of individual variables using spatial econometric models, the fsQCA method is employed to identify four effective driving paths for EWP from a configurational perspective. China's carbon emission trading policy plays a crucial role in achieving both its "3060" dual carbon objectives and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG 13) on climate action. The policy's effectiveness in reducing pollution and mitigating carbon emissions holds significant importance. This paper investigated whether China's carbon emission trading policy affects pollution reduction (PM 2.5 and SO 2 ) and carbon mitigation (CO 2 ) in pilot regions, using panel data from 30 provinces and municipalities in China from 2005 to 2019 and employing a multi-period difference-in-differences (DID) model. Furthermore, it analyzed the heterogeneity of carbon market mechanisms and regional variations. Finally, it examined the governance pathways for pollution reduction and carbon mitigation from a holistic perspective. The results indicate that: (1) China's carbon emission trading policy has reduced CO 2 emissions by 18% and SO 2 emissions by 36% in pilot areas, with an immediate impact on the "carbon mitigation" effect, while the "pollution reduction" effect exhibits a time lag. (2) Higher carbon trading prices lead to stronger "carbon mitigation" effect, and larger carbon market scales are associated with greater "pollution reduction" effects on PM 2.5 . Governance effects on pollution reduction and carbon mitigation vary among pilot regions: Carbon markets of Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Tianjin show significant governance effects in both "pollution reduction" and "carbon mitigation", whereas Guangdong's carbon market exhibits only a "pollution reduction" effect, and Hubei's carbon market demonstrates only a "carbon mitigation" effect. (3) Currently, China's carbon emission trading policy achieves pollution reduction and carbon mitigation through "process management" and "end-of-pipe treatment". Coral reefs are declining due to the rising seawater temperature. Bacteria within and surrounding corals play key roles in maintaining the homeostasis of the coral holobiont. Research on coral-related bacteria could provide benefits for coral reef restoration. During the isolation of coral-associated bacteria, a Gram-stain-negative, motile bacterium (D5M38 T ) was isolated from seawater surrounding corals in Daya Bay, Shenzhen, PR China. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that strain D5M38 T represents a novel species in the genus Cognatishimia . The temperature range for strain D5M38 T growth was 10-40 °C, and the optimum temperature was 37 °C. The salinity range for the growth of this isolate was from 0 to 4.0 %, with an optimal salinity level of 0.5 %. The pH range necessary for strain D5M38 T growth was between pH 5.0 and 9.0, with an optimal pH being 7.5. The predominant fatty acid was summed feature 8 (65.0 %). The major respiratory quinone was Q-10. The DNA G+C content was 56.8 %. The genome size was 3.88 Mb. The average nucleotide identity (ANI), average amino acid identity (AAI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) values between strain D5M38 T and its two closest neighbours, Cognatishimia activa LMG 29900 T and Cognatishimia maritima KCTC 23347 T , were 73.2/73.6%, 73.2/73.6% and 19.7/19.5%, respectively. Strain D5M38 T was clearly distinct from its closest neighbours C. activa LMG 29900 T and C. maritima KCTC 23347 T , with 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity values of 97.5 and 97.3 %, respectively. The phylogenetic analysis, along with the ANI, AAI, and dDDH values, demonstrated that strain D5M38 T is a member of the genus Cognatishimia , and is distinct from the other two recognized species within this genus. The physiological, biochemical and chemotaxonomic characteristics also supported the species novelty of strain D5M38 T . Thus, strain D5M38 T is considered to be classified as representing a novel species in the genus Cognatishimia , for which the name Cognatishimia coralii sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is D5M38 T (=MCCC 1K08692 T =KCTC 8160 T ).

The temporal relationship between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and hypertension remains highly controversial, with ongoing debates on whether NAFLD induces hypertension or vice versa. We employed cross-lagged panel models to investigate the temporal relationship between hepatic steatosis (assessed by Fatty Liver Index [FLI] in the main analysis, and by Proton Density Fat Fraction [PDFF] in the validation study) and blood pressure (systolic and diastolic blood pressure [SBP/ DBP]). Subsequently, we employed causal mediation models to explore the mediation effect in CVD development, including ischemic heart disease and stroke. The main analysis incorporated repeated measurement data of 5,047 participants from the China Multi-Ethnic Cohort (CMEC) and 5,685 participants from the UK Biobank (UKB). In both cohorts, the path coefficients from FLI to blood pressure were significant and greater than the path from blood pressure to FLI, with β FLI→SBP  = 0.081, P < 0.001 versus β SBP→FLI  = 0.020, P = 0.031; β FLI→DBP  = 0.082, P < 0.001 versus β DBP→FLI  = -0.006, P = 0.480 for CEMC, and β FLI→SBP  = 0.057, P < 0.001 versus β SBP→FLI  = -0.001, P = 0.727; β FLI→DBP  = 0.061, P < 0.001, versus β DBP→FLI  = -0.006, P = 0.263 for UKB. The validation study with 962 UKB participants using PDFF consistently supported these findings. In the mediation analyses encompassing 11,108 UKB participants, SBP and DBP mediated 12.2% and 5.2% of the hepatic steatosis-CVD association, respectively. The proportions were lower for ischemic heart disease (SBP: 6.1%, DBP: non-statistically significant -6.8%), and relatively stronger for stroke (SBP: 19.4%, DBP: 26.1%). In conclusion, hepatic steatosis more strongly contributes to elevated blood pressure than vice versa. As a commonly used food preservative, glycerol monocaprylate (GMC) has limited information and lacked a comprehensive risk assessment. In this study, we conducted in vitro genotoxicity tests, a 90-day subchronic toxicity study, and dietary exposure assessment in China. Rats (n = 10/sex/group) were orally administered GMC at doses of 1.02, 2.04, and 4.08 g/kg BW/day along with a water and corn oil for 90 days, including satellite groups (n = 5/sex/group) in the control groups and 4.08 g/kg BW dose group for observation after 90 days. Body weight, food consumption, hematology, serum biochemistry, urinalysis, endocrine hormone level and other metrics were examined. GMC did not exhibit genotoxicity based on the genotoxicity tests results, and an acceptable daily intake (ADI) of 40.8 mg/kg BW/day was established based on the 90-day subchronic toxicity study. Estimated daily intake of GMC for general population and consumer population in China were 0.99 mg/kg BW/day and 3.19 mg/kg BW/day respectively, which were significantly lower than the ADI. Given the high prevalence of avian leukosis virus subgroup K (ALV-K) in chickens in China, the positive rate of ALV-K in local chickens in Henan province was investigated, and the genetic region encoding the glycoprotein gp85 of isolates from positive chickens was analyzed. The positive rate of ALV-K in local chickens in Henan was found to be 87.2% (41/47). Phylogenetic analysis of gp85 sequences revealed six clusters that differed in their host range regions (hr1 and hr2) and variable regions (vr1, vr2, and vr3). Evidence of recombination of hr1, hr2, vr1, vr2, and vr3 was observed between the different clusters. The isolate HN23LS02 appears to have obtained its hr1 and hr2 regions from separate lineages via recombination but without having a significant affect on the replication capacity of the virus., (© 2024. Background: This study aimed to assess whether the Haptoglobin (Hp) genotype influences the relationship between hemoglobin (Hb) levels and the development of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Additionally, it sought to evaluate the interaction and joint association of Hb levels and Hp genotype with GDM risk., Methods: This retrospective study involved 358 women with GDM and 1324 women with normal glucose tolerance (NGT). Peripheral blood leukocytes were collected from 360 individuals at 14-16 weeks' gestation for Hp genotyping. GDM was diagnosed between 24-28 weeks' gestation. Interactive moderating effect, joint analysis, and mediation analysis were performed to evaluate the crosslink of Hb levels and Hp genotype with GDM risk., Results: Women who developed GDM had significantly higher Hb levels throughout pregnancy compared to those with NGT. Increase first-trimester Hb concentration was associated with a progressive rise in GDM incidence, glucose levels, glycosylated hemoglobin levels, Homeostasis Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) values, cesarean delivery rates, and composite neonatal outcomes. Spline regression showed a significant linear association of GDM incidence with continuous first-trimester Hb level when the latter exceeded 122 g/L. Increased first-trimester Hb concentration was an independent risk factor for GDM development after adjusting for potential confounding factors in both the overall population and a matched case-control group. The Hp2-2 genotype was more prevalent among pregnant women with GDM when first-trimester Hb exceeded 122 g/L. Significant multiplicative and additive interactions were identified between Hb levels and Hp genotype for GDM risk, adjusted for age and pre-pregnancy BMI. The odds ratio (OR) for GDM development increased incrementally when stratified by Hb levels and Hp genotype. Moreover, first-trimester Hb level partially mediated the association between Hp genotype and GDM risk., Conclusion: Increased first-trimester Hb levels were closely associated with the development of GDM and adverse pregnancy outcomes, with this association moderated by the Hp2-2 genotype., (© 2024. Based on 908 consumer questionnaire data from 15 urban areas in Shanghai, we use the binary logit model to empirically analyze the impact of traceability label trust on consumers' traceable pork purchase behavior and the moderating effect of food safety identification. After constructing the theoretical analysis framework, this paper verifies it from the two aspects of statistical analysis and econometric analysis and tests the robustness of the final results. The results show that: first, traceability label trust has a significant positive impact on consumers' traceability pork behavior. Second, food safety identification can significantly strengthen and promote this process. Third, consumers' purchasing behavior is significantly positively affected by traceable pork consumption scenarios and price labels, but the permanent elderly in the composition of family members significantly negative impact on it. Background: Prior work suggests that problematic short video use was associated with adverse psychological, physiological, and educational outcomes. With the prevailing of short video platforms, the potential relationships between this problematic behavior and suicidal ideation and self-injurious behaviors have yet to be thoroughly examined. Besides, considering the potential dual nature of problematic short video use, particularly its positive aspects, a potential mechanism may exist linking such problematic behavior to SI and SIBs, ultimately driving individuals towards extreme outcomes. Nevertheless, such mediation paths have not been rigorously examined. Thus, the current study aimed to investigate their relationships and delve into the underlying mechanism, specifically identifying potential mediators between sleep disturbance and depression., Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional study design was employed to model data derived from a large sample of first- and second-year university students residing in mainland China (N = 1,099; Mage = 19.80 years; 51.7% male)., Results: Results showed that problematic short video use has a dual impact on SI and SIBs. On the one hand, problematic short video use was directly related to the decreased risk of suicidal ideation, attempts, and NSSI. On the other hand, such problematic behavior was indirectly associated with the increased risk of NSSI through sleep disturbance, and it indirectly related to the elevated risk of suicidal ideation, attempts, and NSSI through depression. Besides, on the whole, problematic short video use was positively associated with NSSI but not suicidal ideation and attempts., Conclusions: These findings indicated that problematic short video use had a dual impact on SI and SIBs. Trophic state index (TSI) serves as a key indicator for quantifying and understanding the lake eutrophication, which has not been fully explored for long-term water quality monitoring, especially for small and medium inland waters. Landsat satellites offer an effective complement to facilitate the temporal and spatial monitoring of multi-scale lakes. Landsat surface reflectance products were utilized to retrieve the annual average TSI for 2693 lakes over 1 km 2 in China from 1984 to 2023. Our method first distinguishes lake types by pixels with a decision tree and then derives relationships between trophic state and algal biomass index. Validation with public reports and existing datasets confirmed the good consistency and reliability. The dataset provides reliable annual TSI results and credible trends for lakes under different area scales, which can serve as a reference for further research and provide convenience for lake sustainable management., (© 2024. Little information is known regarding how the lagged pollution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) influenced the environment and human health after an e-waste dismantling site was rebuilt. This study investigated the characteristics, sources, and risk assessment of PAHs in a rebuilt e-waste site and its surrounding farmland by analyzing the samples of soil, dust, water, and vegetable. Concentrations of PAHs in soil, vegetable and water in the rebuilt site were relatively higher than in its surrounding farmland. The concentrations in surface soils, soil columns, dust, vegetables, and water varied from 55.4 to 3990 ng g -1 , 1.65 to 5060 ng g -1 , 2190 to 2420 ng g -1 , 2670 to 10,300 ng g -1 , and 46.8 to 110 μg L -1 in the e-waste site, respectively. On the farmland, PAH concentrations in surface soils, vegetables, and water ranged from 41.5 to 2760 ng g -1 , 506 to 7640 ng g -1 , and 56.6 to 89.2 μg L -1 , respectively. A higher proportion of high-molecular-weight PAHs (HMW-PAHs) appeared in all multimedia compared with low-molecular-weight PAHs (LMW-PAHs). Diagnostic ratio together with positive matrix factorization (PMF) revealed that vehicle emission was the primary source in this area, and the activity of e-waste disposal was another important source in the rebuilt e-waste site. Based on the deterministic health risks, people working in the reconstructed e-waste site were exposed to low risks, whereas the residents living near the surrounding farmland were exposed to low risk. Sensitivity analyses indicated that exposure frequency and PAH concentrations were the main factors that influenced exposure risk.
