Abstract: Intestinal microecology (IM) is the largest and most important microecological system of the human body. Furthermore, it is the key factor for activating and maintaining the physiological functions of the intestine. Numerous studies have investigated the effects of the gut microbiota on the different tissues and organs of the human body as well as their association with various diseases, and the findings are gradually being translated into clinical practice. The gut microbiota affects the occurrence, progression, treatment response, and toxic side effects of tumors. The deepening of research related to IM and tumors has opened a new chapter in IM research driven by methods and technologies such as second-generation sequencing and bioinformatics. The IM maintains the function of the host immune system and plays a pivotal role in tumor-control drug therapy. Increasing evidence has proven that the efficacy of tumor-control drugs largely depends on the IM balance, and strategies based on the IM technology show promising application prospects in the diagnosis and treatment of tumor. The Tumor and Microecology Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti-cancer Association gathered relevant experts to discuss and propose the "Chinese guidelines for integrated diagnosis and treatment of IM technologies in tumor application (2024 Edition)," which was established based on the research progress of the application of the IM technology in tumor to provide a basis for the standardization of the diagnosis and treatment of the IM technology in the tumor., (Copyright © 2024 Copyright: © 2024 Journal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics.)

To test the serial discontinuity concept (SDC) predictions in a regulated river ecosystem, environmental parameters and phytoplankton community structure were determined in a subtropical river (China) which was regulated by 11 cascade dams. Our results showed that total phosphorus (TP) and silicate during the wet period in several dams supported the SDC predictions. Variations of phytoplankton species composition in several cascade dams, such as Datengxia (DTX) and Changzhou (CZ), also supported the SDC predictions. Moreover, the stations near the dams showed the maximum or minimum values of total species numbers in each cascade segment. Predictive model indicated that the types of phytoplankton decreased in the middle reaches, conforming to SDC predictions. In the whole system of cascading dams, an increase in silicate concentration and phytoplankton communities in the downstream was also consistent with SDC predictions. Therefore, these findings aligned with the SDC predictions in the aspects of both single dam and whole cascade dam system to some extent. In future research, our aim is to further investigate the effects of cascade damming on additional phytoplankton-related indices in this aquatic ecosystem. Objective: Copper metabolism disorder disease is thought to contribute to renal symptoms in Wilson's disease (WD). Nonetheless, there remains limited knowledge regarding the precise characteristics of renal damage in individuals with Wilson's disease, encompassing clinical presentations, biochemical indicators, imaging findings, and renal histopathological alterations., Methods: In this study, 20 patients diagnosed with Wilson's disease and renal involvement were enrolled in our hospital. These patients met the validated European criteria for Wilson's disease, and those with primary kidney disease or secondary renal damage caused by other underlying conditions were excluded. The baseline data of patients were collected. Various biochemical and hematological parameters were monitored. Biochemical examinations were measured using an automatic biochemistry analyzer, blood routines were tested by flow cytometry analysis, 24-h urine copper was tested by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Besides, CER was measured by turbidimetric immunoassay with a Hitachi 7020 automatic biochemical analyzer (the intraplate and interplate coefficients of variation were 2.7% and 5.13% respectively). Copper oxidase was tested by colorimetric method using p-phenylenediamine hydrochloride (the intraplate and interplate coefficients of variation were both <10%). Diagnostic criteria for Wilson's disease and kidney damage were established based on the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) and CKD Epidemiology Collaboration guidelines, respectively. Statistical analysis was carried out using t-tests and χ 2 tests in SPSS 22.0 software. Significant differences were considered when P<0.05., Results: In those patients with Wilson's disease-related renal damage, edema, gross hematuria, oliguria, and lumbar pain were present in most patients. Microscopic haematuria and proteinuria were also observed in 19 patients. Compared to patients without renal involvement, those with renal complications exhibited a significant increase in white blood cell (WBC) and neutrophil counts (P<0.05). Additionally, patients with renal damage showed a noteworthy rise in both diastolic and systolic blood pressure, along with a significant reduction in hemoglobin levels (P<0.05). Color Doppler ultrasound results revealed diffuse lesions in both kidneys in 12 patients, renal cysts were identified in 5 patients, and 2 patients exhibited abnormal renal blood flow signals. Meanwhile, varying degrees of IgA, IgM, IgG-based immunoglobulins, complement C3 and C1q deposition in the glomerular mesangial area were detected by immunofluorescence. Furthermore, renal puncture biopsy results revealed a spectrum of findings, including minimal change nephrosis in 1 case, IgA nephropathy in 3 cases, atypical membranous proliferative nephropathy in 2 cases, and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in 1 case., Conclusion: This study comprehensively elucidates the distinct attributes of renal damage related to Wilson's disease, while also speculating that renal dysfunction in Wilson's disease could be linked to immune complex deposition. Depending on the underlying pathogenesis, kidney injury associated with Wilson's disease can be classified as primary or secondary. Microplastics (MPs) pollution in freshwater poses a risk to various ecosystems and health security. In 2018, the Chinese government banned fishing since 2018 in the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR), but the fate and risk of MPs in wild fish remain unclear. Therefore, a detailed investigation was conducted into the occurrence of MPs in 18 wild fish species in the TGR using a Micro Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer, and the trophic transfer and risks were assessed. MPs in fish were aged, with abundances ranging from 0.68 ± 0.98 to 4.00 ± 2.12 items/individual. Most particles were less than 1 mm in size (73.4 %), with fibers being the dominant shape (48.9 %) and transparent as the dominant color (35 %). Polyethylene (PE) was the most prevalent type. The bioconcentration factor (BCF), bioaccumulation factor (BAF), trophic magnification factor (TMF) and polymer hazard index (PHI) were low, suggesting no trophic transfer and a low risk of MPs. The BAF may provide a more reasonable description of the degree of enrichment of MPs, and 'items/individual' or 'g/individual' can be used to describe MPs concentrations in fish. Background: Helicobacter pylori infection (HPI) is extremely common in the world, particularly in less developed areas, but the primary causes of childhood HPI are unspecified., Objectives: To determine the influences of exposure to home environmental factors (HEFs), outdoor air pollutants (OAPs), and parental stress (PS), as well as their interactions on children's HPI., Methods: We implemented a retrospective cohort study with 8689 preschoolers from nine districts at Changsha, China, was conducted using questionnaires to collect data of health and HEFs. Temperature and OAPs data were collected from ten and eight monitoring stations, individually. Temperature and OAPs exposures were calculated for all home addresses using the inversed distance weighted (IDW) model. Multiple logistic regression analysis was carried out to determine the separate and combined impacts of HEFs, OAPs, and PS on HPI., Results: Children's HPI was significantly associated with exposure to moisture-specific indoor allergens in one-year preceding conception, gestation, and first year, smoke-specific air pollution throughout life, and plant-specific allergens in previous year. Outdoor exposures to CO in the 7th-9th month before conception, as well as PM 2.5 in the second trimester and previous year, were associated with HPI, with ORs (95 % CIs) of 1.22 (1.05-1.41), 1.23 (1.03-1.46), and 1.33 (1.14-1.55). Parents' socioeconomic and psychological stress indicators were positively related to HPI. High socioeconomic indicators and psychological stresses increased the roles of indoor renovation and moisture indicators as well as outdoor SO 2 , PM 2.5 and O 3 on children's HPI over their entire lives. Background: The childbirth experience of primipara profoundly impacts her future physical and mental health, reproductive intention, and choice of childbirth mode. This study aimed to explore the current situation of primipara's childbirth experience, to analyze the factors influencing negative childbirth experience, and to explore the relationship between childbirth experience and reproductive intention., Methods: A cross-sectional survey of a convenience sample of 522 primipara 1-5 days postpartum was conducted at five hospitals in Guangdong Province (May to July 2024). Data were collected using the General Information Questionnaire, the Social Support Rating Scale, the Childbirth Readiness Scale, the Caring Behaviors Inventory Scale, the Wijma Delivery Experience Questionnaire, and the Questionnaire on Reproduction Intention of Primipara., Results: The mean score of fear of childbirth was 68.86 ± 17.68. A total of 137 respondents met the clinical criteria for fear of childbirth (≥ 85 points), indicating that 26.2% of primipara had a negative experience of childbirth. Binary logistic regression model showed that elderly primipara [odds ratio (OR) (95% confidence interval (CI)): 11.167 (2.737-45.559)], pregnancy comorbidities or maternal childbirth complications [OR (95%CI): 6.596 (3.046-14.287)], childbirth intervention [OR (95%CI): 6.168 (2.869-13.258)], and severe pain [OR (95%CI): 4.660 (2.197-9.882)] were risk factors for negative childbirth experience. Childbirth accompaniment [OR (95%CI): 0.081 (0.018-0.368)], high level of social support [OR (95%CI): 0.768 (0.704-0.839)], and high level of childbirth readiness [OR (95%CI): 0.878 (0.812-0.950)] protected against a negative birth experience. There was a negative correlation between the fear of childbirth score and reproduction intention scores., Conclusions: Childbirth accompaniment and high levels of social support and childbirth readiness can reduce primipara's perception of negative childbirth experience. Objective: To investigate the correlation between programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) expression and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and evaluate the prognostic value of PD-L1 and TILs in Chinese triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients with different molecular subtype METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted at 2020. Specifically, the pre-chemotherapy clinical data and non-stained tissue blocks of 465 TNBC patients visited the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center (FUSCC) between 2008 and 2014 were collected, with their blocks sliced and stained using PD-L1(SP142), and the outcome of subsequent chemotherapy obtained in 2020. The relapse-free survival (RFS) of the study population was calculated. The baseline PD-L1 expression status correlations with TILs and molecular subtypes were assessed using Spearman's rank correlation analysis and the Kruskal-Wallis test. Kaplan-Meier survival analyses were undertaken to evaluate the prognosis value of TILs and PD-L1 expression., Results: PD-L1 expression status on IC was moderately and positively correlated with stromal tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (sTILs) (r s = 0.502, P <0.001) and iTILs (r s = 0.410, P < 0.001), respectively. PD-L1 expression status and TILs showed significant differences among molecular subtypes (P < 0.001), with the highest proportion of PD-L1+ and high TILs patients observed in the immunomodulatory (IM) subtype. TILs were significantly associated with RFS. Intertidal wetlands undergo dynamic water and salinity variations, creating both promising and challenging habitats for diverse organisms. Crabs respond strongly to these variations by means such as altering their movements, thereby restructuring their spatial distribution and influencing coastal ecosystem resilience. However, the movements of crabs under varying environmental conditions require further elucidation. We conducted a systematic mesocosm experiment using the ubiquitous intertidal crab species Helice tientsinensis with four amount levels and six salinity levels of sprayed water applied through a custom apparatus, with a primary focus on crab movement. Crab movement from the experimental side of the apparatus (with altered conditions) to the control side (resembling field conditions of the intertidal wetlands of China's Yellow River Delta) and vice versa was recorded. The results revealed significant differences in moving out of the experimental side and moving in among the different water and salinity conditions, both separately for the two factors and simultaneously. Decreases in water content had a more pronounced effect on crab movement, leading to an increased number of crabs moving out of the experimental side of the apparatus. Conversely, as the experimental side became wetter, crabs tended to move towards it, and this movement was intensified by increases or decreases in water salinity. A structural equation model revealed that the moving-out and moving-in played fundamental roles in determining the number of resident crabs at the end of each experiment. While crabs preferred moist sediment with lower salinity, changes in salinity alone had minimal direct effect compared to sediment water contents. Oil crops have the potential to remediate cadmium (Cd)-contaminated farmland while producing safe vegetable oil. However, it is currently unknown whether different oil crops can remediate varying levels of Cd contamination in farmland. This study assessed agricultural fields in southern China contaminated with Cd levels ranging from 0.42 to 10.3 mg/kg. Three representative oilseed crops winter rape, oil sunflower, and peanut were selected for field experiments under two rotation systems. The effects of different rotation systems on remediating various Cd contamination levels were compared to evaluate the feasibility and potential of a two oil crop rotation system. All three crops showed good tolerance to Cd without signs of biomass deficiency. The biomass produced by the rape-oil sunflower and rape-peanut rotation systems was 33.44-459.00 g/ha and 30.64-281.40 g/ha, respectively. The Cd concentration in the oil products obtained complied with existing national and international standards (0.05 mg/kg). The remediation efficiency of the rape-oil sunflower and rape-peanut rotation systems was 1.98-7.37 % and 1.21-4.94 %, respectively. However, the remediation efficiencies and enrichment capacities of both rotation systems were somewhat inhibited by heavy Cd contamination (10.3 mg/kg). To investigate air-sea CO 2 flux at the Qingdao nearshore site and its temporal variations, a high-resolution continuous observation of surface carbon dioxide partial pressure (pCO 2 ) was carried out at Zhongyuan Pier near Tuandao from May 25 to July 8, 2019. It was observed that during this period, surface pCO 2 varied between ∼490 and ∼690 μatm, mainly associated with sea surface temperature. Surface pCO 2 also displayed substantial diurnal variations, with an average amplitude of 64 ± 21 μatm, largely dominated by biological activities. During the observational period, this site acted as a source of atmospheric CO 2 , releasing 361 mmol CO 2 m -2 . Objectives: China introduced an innovative Supplementary High-Cost Illness Insurance (SHCII) program to enhance existing social health insurance by providing extra financial support for individuals facing catastrophic illnesses in 2015. The SHCII has notably increased access to healthcare and alleviated financial strain for economically disadvantaged individuals. However, there is a lack of information regarding the program's impact on the mental health of its beneficiaries. This study aims to assess the impact of SHCII on the mental well-being of middle-aged and older individuals., Methods: Using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (2011, 2013, 2015, and 2018), this study examined how SHCII affects mental health among middle-aged and older individuals in China using propensity score matching with the time-varying difference-in-differences method., Results: We found that SHCII implementation can significantly reduce the Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale scores of middle-aged and older individuals. This reduction was more pronounced among older individuals with poor self-rated health, chronic disease, and low household wealth when compared to their counterparts., Discussion: The implementation of SHCII has had a significant and positive impact on mental health outcomes. Objective: To investigate the effects of the school visual environment on depressive symptoms in children and adolescents based on cohort study in eastern China. The school visual environment-related indicators included in this study comprise personal factors (visual impairment) and school-related factors (classroom lighting, school green spaces and school air quality)., Method: The follow-up cohort comprises 15,348 students from 283 primary and secondary schools in eastern China. This represents the one-year outcomes of a school-based myopia-mental health cohort study. Data collection includes basic demographics (age, gender, region, etc.), physical examination indicators, behavioral indicators, and school visual environment-related indicators., Result: After a one-year follow-up, we found that compared to the more severe vision impairment group (≤4.0), healthy vision group (≥5.0) had a positive effect against the occurrence of depressive symptoms during consecutive follow-ups, with an RR value of 0.61 (95% CI: 0.57-0.66). Higher values of blackboard illumination appear to be associated with greater positive effects, with an RR (Q75%∼Q100% range) value of 0.87(95% CI: 0.81-0.93). School green spaces seem to exhibit relatively good positive effects when in the Q25%∼Q75% range. The combination of physical activity (Weekly high-intensity exercise) with school air quality(PM 2.5 ≤50%)showed a better positive effect, with an RR value of 0.51(95%CI:0.48-0.55)., Conclusion: When addressing students' depressive symptoms, it is crucial to improve the visual environment both at the school level and in students' personal level. During the transformation and upgrading of enterprises, executives' social capital provides useful access to resources through merger and acquisition (M&A) strategies. This study examines 145 M&A events of Chinese listed media enterprises undergoing transformation and upgrading as research samples. It empirically analyzed the impact of executives' social capital on short-term and long-term M&A performance from three aspects: corporate social capital (CSC), political social capital (PSC), and financial social capital (FSC). It also confirmed the moderating effect of corporate ownership structure, exploring the mechanism of executives' social capital during the period of transformation and upgrading. Based on the empirical results, we found that: (1) CSC significantly enhances short-term M&A performance but has no significant effect on long-term performance; (2) PSC positively influences both short-term and long-term M&A performance. State-owned media enterprises may gain relatively fewer benefits from PSC in the short term after M&A, but they can accrue more significant benefits in the long term post-M&A; (3) FSC does not affect short-term M&A performance but exerts a negative impact on long-term performance. The negative effect is even more pronounced in state-owned enterprises. This study complements existing research on executives' social capital during the transformation and upgrading of enterprises. Background: In this study, we aimed to assess the associations between early exposure to famine and the risks of diabetic complications in adult patients with type two diabetes., Methods: The participants in this study were selected from China National HbA1c Surveillance System (2009-13) and further stratified according to the birth year. The participants born between 1956-59, 1959-61, and 1962-64 were classified as foetal exposed group with 70 852, infant/toddler exposed group with 93 616, and unexposed group with 72 723 participants. The association between exposure to famine in early life and risks of diabetic complications were analysed by logistic regression. We assessed the attributing effects of the interaction between exposure to famine in early life and modifiable risk factors by the multiplicative and additive interactive models., Results: After adjustments for sex, famine severity, economic status in adulthood, body mass index, blood pressure, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, glycated haemoglobin, diabetes duration, and the use of antidiabetic agents, the increased risks of coronary heart disease (odds ratio (OR) = 1.31; 95% CI (confidence interval) = 1.26, 1.36), cerebrovascular disease (OR = 1.32; 95% CI = 1.24, 1.41), and diabetic retinopathy (OR = 1.06; 95% CI = 1.02, 1.10) were observed in patients with early-life exposure to famine. The reduced risk of diabetic kidney disease (OR = 0.94; 95% CI = 0.90, 0.99) was observed in patients with early-life exposure to famine compared with those without famine exposure. The interaction analyses indicated that obesity might exacerbate the increased risk of coronary heart disease (OR = 1.26; 95% CI = 1.22, 1.30), cerebrovascular disease (OR = 1.26; 95% CI = 1.21, 1.32), and diabetic retinopathy associated with early-life exposure to famine (OR = 1.09; 95% CI = 1.06, 1.12) in patients with type two diabetes. Moreover, high economic status in adulthood might also exacerbate the increased risk of coronary heart disease (OR = 1.35; 95% CI = 1.30, 1.40) and cerebrovascular disease (OR = 1.33; 95% CI = 1.23, 1.43) associated with early-life exposure to famine in patients with type two diabetes., Conclusions: Early-life exposure to famine in patients with type two diabetes might be associated with increased risks of coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, and diabetic retinopathy but a reduced risk of diabetic kidney disease in adulthood. Obesity and high economic status might further exacerbate the risk of diabetic complications associated with early-life exposure to famine. To report the correlation between corneal biomechanical parameters and age in healthy Chinese individuals. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 864 eyes of 543 healthy participants. A comprehensive ophthalmic examination and corneal biomechanics examination using Corneal Visualization Scheimpflug Technology (Corvis ST) were conducted. Based on age, all participants were further divided into five age groups (n) as follows: group A, 11-20 years (105); group B, 21-30 years (112); group C, 31-40 years (113); group D, 41-50 years (100); and group E, > 50 years (113). Using Corvis ST, we examined 35 corneal biomechanical parameters and compared them across the different age groups. Spearman's correlation coefficients and stepwise multivariate linear regression models were used to investigate whether the corneal biomechanical parameters were related to demographic and ocular characteristics. A correlation analysis between the left and right eyes revealed that 13 parameters were significantly associated with eye differences. Among the 35 corneal biomechanical parameters, 28 exhibited significant differences across the age groups, with stiffness parameter at applanation 1(SPA1) showing an upward trend after the age of 30 and stress-strain index (SSI) demonstrates a statistically significant upward trend when comparing the five age groups in the study. Additionally, Spearman's correlation analysis and stepwise multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that 11 corneal biomechanical parameters were positively correlated with age and 10 were negatively correlated with age. Corvis biomechanical index (CBI) was significantly negatively correlated with intraocular pressure (IOP) and central corneal thickness (CCT), SSI was significantly positively correlated with age and IOP, and SPA1 were positively correlated with IOP and CCT. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the association between different levels of physical activity and risk of developing type 2 diabetes (T2D) mellitus among adults with prediabetes in Chinese population., Methods: This prospective population-based cohort study included 12,424 participants (mean [SD] age, 52.8 [16.8] years; 82.2% men) with prediabetes at 2014 survey of the Kailuan study. Physical activity information was collected through the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form and categorized by metabolic equivalent (MET) of task as low, moderate, and high. Cox regression models were built to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for associations between physical activity levels and incident T2D., Results: During a median follow-up of 3.6 years, 2,207 (17.8%) participants developed T2D. The incident rate of T2D were 55.83/1000, 35.14/1000, and 39.61/1000 person-years in the low, moderate, and high physical activity level group, respectively. Both moderate (HR 0.57, 95% CI 0.49 to 0.67) and high (HR 0.76, 95% CI 0.66 to 0.89) physical activity levels were associated with lower risks of developing T2D compared to low physical activity level (P for trend < 0.001). The association between high physical activity level and T2D was primarily observed in participants without metabolic syndrome (P for interaction < 0.001). Moreover, participants with moderate or high levels of physical activity had significantly decreased fasting blood glucose levels during follow-up when compared to those with low level (P group*time < 0.001)., Conclusion: This study suggested that individuals with prediabetes might benefit from moderate and high levels of physical activity., (© 2024. Seoul orthohantavirus (SEOV) has been identified as one of the main causative agents of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) in China. The virus was found circulating in rodent populations in almost all provinces of the country, reflecting the wide distribution of HFRS. Here, using the direct immunofluorescence assay (DFA) and real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) approach, we performed screening in 1784 small mammals belonging to 14 species of three orders captured in the main areas of HFRS endemicity in Yunnan province (southwestern China) and identified 37 SEOV-positive rats (36 Rattus norvegicus and 1 Rattus tanezumi). A 3-year surveillance of HFRS epidemics and dynamics of rodent reservoir density and virus prevalence implied a potential correlation between them. The subsequent meta-transcriptomic sequencing and phylogenetic analyses revealed three SEOV variants, among which two are completely novel. The ancestral character state reconstruction (ACSR) analysis based on both novel variants and documented strains from 5 continents demonstrated that SEOV appeared to originate near the southwestern area (Yunnan-Kweichow Plateau) of China, then could spread to other regions and countries by their rodent carriers, resulting in a global distribution today. In summary, these data furthered the understanding regards genetic diversity and the potential origin for SEOV. Background: Formal home and community-based care are often considered as the preferable option to institutional care, offering older individuals the convenience of receiving care in their homes. Although research has found that these services may alleviate the burden on informal caregivers, there is a lack of research on which specific types of formal home and community-based care influence informal care provision., Methods: Employing fixed-effects and quantile regression models, this study seeks to explore the effects that various formal home and community-based care services have on reducing the burden of informal care. This study draws data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey 2005, 2008, 2011, 2014, and 2018., Results: Our findings indicate that two types of formal care substantially influence the provision of informal care. The availability of daily living assistance services correlates with reduced informal caregiving hours, especially for those with extensive care needs. The availability of community-based health care services is linked to a reduction in the direct expenses incurred from informal caregiving, especially for those incurring greater direct caregiving costs. These effects are more prominent among urban residents. Other services, such as mental health support and legal advice services, do not demonstrate significant effects on reducing informal care hours and costs., Conclusions: Daily living assistance and community-based health care services play a crucial role in benefiting informal caregivers. Background: In 2022, our team launched the pioneering national proficiency testing (PT) scheme for the pathological diagnosis of breast cancer, rapidly establishing its credibility throughout China. Aiming to continuously monitor and improve the proficiency of Chinese pathologists in breast pathology, the second round of the PT scheme was initiated in 2023, which will expand the number of participating institutions, and will conduct a nationwide investigation into the interpretation of HER2 0, 1+, and 2+/FISH- categories in China., Methods: The methodology employed in the current round of PT scheme closely mirrors that of the preceding cycle in 2022, which is designed and implemented according to the "Conformity assessment-General requirements for proficiency testing"(GB/T27043-2012/ISO/IEC 17043:2010). More importantly, we utilized a statistics-based method to generate assigned values to enhance their robustness and credibility., Results: The final PT results, published on the website of the National Quality Control Center for Cancer ( http://117.133.40.88:3927 ), showed that all participants passed the testing. However, a few institutions demonstrated systemic biases in scoring HER2 0, 1+, and 2+/FISH- with accuracy levels below 59%, considered unsatisfactory. Especially, the concordance rate for HER2 0 cases was only 78.1%, indicating challenges in distinguishing HER2 0 from low HER2 expression. Meanwhile, areas for histologic type and grade interpretation improvement were also noted., Conclusions: Our PT scheme demonstrated high proficiency in diagnosing breast cancer in China. But it also identified systemic biases in scoring HER2 0, 1+, and 2+/FISH- at some institutions. More importantly, our study highlighted challenges in the evaluation at the extreme lower end of the HER2 staining spectrum, a crucial area for further research. Meanwhile, it also revealed the need for improvements in interpreting histologic types and grades. Dechloranes, including dechlorane 602 (Dec 602), dechlorane 603 (Dec 603), dechlorane 604 (Dec 604), dechlorane plus (DP, including syn- and anti-DP) and mirex, were determined in marine food web from Dalian Bay, Northeast China to investigate their occurrence andtrophic transfer. In all organisms, the detection rates were Dec 602 (99%) > mirex (95%) > Dec 603 (92%) > anti-DP (91%) > syn-DP (82%) > Dec 604 (9.6%). The concentrations were 0.92-16 ng/g lipid weight (lw) for mirex, 0.53-2.3 ng/g lw for syn-DP, 1.1-4.5 ng/g lw for anti-DP, 0.19-5.0 ng/g lw for Dec 602, 0.26-1.9 ng/g lw for Dec 603 and 0.020-0.33 ng/g lw for Dec 604. Significant positive relationships (p < 0.0001) were observed between lipid normalized concentrations and trophic levels for mirex (R 2  = 0.80) and Dec602 (R 2  = 0.82) in food webs, with the calculated TMFs values of 3.09 and 3.39, respectively, indicating the trophic magnification potential of these compounds. For syn-DP, anti-DP, Dec 603 and Dec 604, the similar significant relationships were not found, suggesting that these chemicals do not trophic magnification nor trophic dilution in the food web. With low log K OW values for mirex (7.01) and Dec 602 (8.05), these two compounds have the highest magnifications potentials, while the magnification potential of Dec 603, Dec 604 and DP dramatically decreased because of their extremely big log K OW values (higher than 10). Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are consumed by photochemical reactions during transport, leading to inaccuracies in estimating the local ozone (O 3 ) formation mechanism and its subsequent strategy for O 3 attainment. To comprehensively quantify the deviations in O 3 formation mechanism by consumed VOCs (C-VOCs), a 5-month field campaign was conducted in a typical industrial city in Northern China over incorporating a 0-D box model (implemented with MCMv3.3.1). The averaged C-VOCs concentration was 6.8 ppbv during entire period, and Alkenes accounted for 62% dominantly. Without considering C-VOCs, the relative incremental reactivity (RIR) of anthropogenic VOCs (AVOC, overestimated by 68%-75%) and NO x (underestimated by 137%-527%) demonstrated deviations at multiple scenarios, and the RIR deviations for precursors in High-O 3 -periods (HOP) were lower than Low-O 3 -periods (LOP). The RIR deviations from individual species involved C-VOCs calculation did not impact the identification for the high-ranking-RIR AVOC species but non-negligible. Monthly comparisons showed that higher C-VOCs concentrations would lead to higher RIR deviations. The daily maximum of net O x production rate (P(O x )) and the regional transport O x (Trans(O x )) without C-VOCs were underestimated by 56%-194% and 81%-243%, respectively. After considering C-VOCs, the contribution of HO 2 +NO for O x gross production (G(O x )) decreased by 7% (LOP) and 7% (HOP), but OH + NO 2 for O x destruction (D(O x )) decreased by 16% (LOP) and 23% (HOP), and alkenes + O 3 increased for D(O x ) by 12% (LOP) and 22% (HOP). This implies that VOCs-NO x -O 3 sensitivity was deviated between with/without C-VOCs, and severe O 3 pollution rendered deviations in O 3 formation, especially via NO x -driving chemistry. Based on RIR(NO x )/RIR(AVOC) with/without C-VOCs, the sensitivity regime shifted from VOCs-limited (-0.93) to transition (1.38) at LOP, and from VOCs-limited (0.19) to NO x -limited (3.79) at HOP. Background: Many studies have investigated the intake of dietary isoflavones in relation to obesity risk, whereas the association using objective biomarkers of isoflavones, particularly equol (a gut-derived metabolite of daidzein with greater bioavailability than other isoflavones) has been less studied. In addition, the associations between equol and gut microbiota profile at the population level remain to be fully characterized., Objectives: We aimed to identify equol-predicting microbial species and to investigate the associations of equol-predicting microbial species and urinary excretion of isoflavones including glycitein, genistein, daidzein, and equol with diverse obesity markers in free living-individuals., Methods: In this 1-y longitudinal study of 754 community-dwelling adults, urinary isoflavones, fecal microbiota, height, weight, and circumferences of waist and hip were measured at baseline and again after 1 y. Liver fat [indicated by the controlled attenuation parameter (CAP)] and other body composition were also measured after 1 y. Linear models and linear mixed-effects models were used to analyze the associations for single measure and repeated measures, respectively., Results: Among 305 participants (median age: 50 y, IQR, 37-59 y) including 138 males and 167 females, higher urinary excretion of equol was associated with lower CAP (β = -0.013, P < 0.001) and body fat mass (β= -0.014, P = 0.046). No association was found between any other urinary isoflavones and obesity markers (all P > 0.05). We identified 21 bacterial genera whose relative abundance were positively associated with urinary equol concentrations (all P false discovery rate < 0.05), and constructed an equol-predicting microbial score to reflect the overall equol-producing potential of host gut microbiota. Aim: To investigate the associations of body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC) and the weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) with the impairment of activities of daily living (ADL) in older Chinese people., Methods: A total of 13 260 participants aged 65 years and older from the 2018 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey were included in this cross-sectional study. BMI, WC and the WWI were calculated from measurements of height, weight and WC. Binary logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). Non-linear correlations were investigated using restricted cubic spline curves., Results: In multivariate logistic regression fully adjusted for confounding variables, our analyses revealed significant associations between WC and WWI and ADL impairment, with adjusted ORs (95% CI) of 1.01 (1.00, 1.01) and 1.08 (1.03, 1.12), respectively. Meanwhile, participants with a high WWI had a higher risk of ADL impairment compared with those with a low WWI, with an adjusted OR (95% CI) of 1.12 (1.02, 1.23). Subgroup analyses showed that only the association between WWI and ADL impairment did not differ in any of the different populations. In addition, we found that BMI, WC and WWI were non-linearly associated with ADL impairment., Conclusions: There are significant associations between WC and WWI and ADL impairment in older Chinese people. The distribution of deoxynivalenol (DON) and its derivatives 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol (3-Ac-DON) and 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol (15-Ac-DON) throughout the wheat processing chain were systemically evaluated by one-to-one corresponding studies of the whole processing chain. DON and its derivatives were determined by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) in wheat grains and corresponding wheat bran, wheat flour, and semi-finished and finished wheat flour-based products. This investigation showed that wheat grain processing to wheat flour significantly decreased the levels of DON by approximately 52.7%-68.2%. Wheat flour processing of wheat flour-based products decreased the DON concentration by approximately 7.0%-70.6%. Among the processing methods, biscuit making showed the largest reduction (70.6%). The co-occurrence frequency of DON with low levels of 3-Ac-DON and 15-Ac-DON was significantly greater in wheat grains and wheat bran than in wheat flour. For wheat flour-based products, only the distribution pattern of 3-Ac-DON was observable in processed wheat flour products prepared using grains heavily contaminated with DON. In China, to the best of our knowledge, the processing factors (PFs) of DON in wheat flour and wheat flour-based products were systematically evaluated for the first time. The average PF of DON was 0.35 for wheat flour and the average PFs were 0.37-0.84 for wheat flour-based products, with biscuits having the smallest PF (0.37), indicating DON significantly decreasing in biscuit making. Furthermore, dietary exposure assessment of DON indicated an acceptable overall health risk in Chinese consumers, with the highest exposure being observed in infants and young children. Objectives: The study aimed to explore the internal pathway of the association between activities of daily living and subjective well-being among Chinese older adults using a large and representative sample., Background: There is still a lack of systematic investigation into the association between activities of daily living and subjective well-being among Chinese older adults., Materials and Methods: The study included 10 578 participants from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey. We applied multiple linear regression analysis and Spearman correlation analysis to examine the association between activities of daily living and subjective well-being and PROCESS macro to determine the mediating effect of leisure activities on the relationship between them., Results: The mean total score of subjective well-being was 30.5 ± 4.4. The prevalence of basic activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living limitations was 18.0% and 60.8%, respectively. Correlation analysis showed that activities of daily living score were negatively correlated with subjective well-being. Leisure activities were positively correlated with subjective well-being. Objectives: This analysis aims to better reflect the value of new antibiotic treatment strategies, thereby informing clinical antibiotic use, antimicrobial reimbursement and/or hospital formulary decision-making in China., Design: We adapted a published and validated dynamic disease transmission and cost-effectiveness model to evaluate the clinical and economic outcomes of introducing a new antibiotic, ceftazidime/avibactam (CAZ-AVI) for treating resistant infections in Zhejiang province, China. Outcomes were assessed over a 10-year infectious period and an annual discount rate of 5%. Costs were extracted from the hospital's Health Information System (HIS) and obtained after data cleaning, aggregation and discounting., Setting: The Chinese healthcare system perspective., Participants: 10 905 patients in a Chinese tier-3 hospital from 2018 to 2021 with any of the three common infections (complicated intra-abdominal infection (cIAI), hospital-acquired/ventilator-associated pneumonia (HAP/VAP) and infections with limited treatment options (LTO)) caused by three common resistant pathogens ( Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa )., Interventions: (1) Current treatment strategy (piperacillin-tazobactam (pip/taz) and meropenem); (2) CAZ-AVI at the third line; (3) CAZ-AVI at the second line; (4) CAZ-AVI at the first line; (5) CAZ/AVI first line, two lines diversified (i.e., equal pip/taz and CAZ-AVI at the first line; meropenem at the last line) and (6) CAZ/AVI first line, all-lines diversified., Primary Outcome Measures: Quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) lost, hospitalisation costs and incremental net monetary benefit (INMB) were used to assess cost-effectiveness., Results: Over 10 years, the introduction of CAZ-AVI to the current treatment strategy led to lower hospitalisation costs and more QALYs across all five treatment strategies, with between 68 284 and 78 571 QALYs gained whilst saving up to US$236.37 for each additional QALY gained. Polygonatum kingianum Collett & Hemsl., is one of the most important traditional Chinese medicines in China. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between herb quality and microbial-soil variables, while also examining the composition and structure of the rhizosphere microbial community in Polygonatum kingianum, the ultimate goal is to provide a scientific approach to enhancing the quality of P. kingianum. Illumina NovaSeq technology unlocks comprehensive genetic variation and biological functionality through high-throughput sequencing. And in this study it was used to analyze the rhizosphere microbial communities in the soils of five P. kingianum planting areas. Conventional techniques were used to measure the organic elements, pH, and organic matter content. The active ingredient content of P. kingianum was identified by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Colorimetry. A total of 12,715 bacterial and 5487 fungal Operational Taxonomic Units (OTU) were obtained and taxonomically categorized into 81 and 7 different phyla. Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Acidobacteriae were the dominant bacterial phyla Ascomycota and Basidiomycota were the dominat fungal phyla. The key predictors for bacterial community structure included hydrolysable nitrogen and available potassium, while for altering fungal community structure, soil organic carbon content (OCC), total nitrogen content (TNC), and total potassium content (TPOC) were the main influencing factors. Bryobacter and Candidatus Solibacter may indirectly increase the polysaccharide content of P. kingianum, and can be developed as potential Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR). This study has confirmed the differences in the soil and microorganisms of different origins of P. kingianum, and their close association with its active ingredients. Background: Limited epidemiological evidence suggests that exposure to trace elements adversely impacts the development of gastric precancerous lesions (GPL) and gastric cancer (GC). This study aimed to estimate the association of individual urinary exposure to multiple elements with GPL and GC., Methods: A case-control investigation was conducted in Anhui Province from March 2021 to December 2022. A total of 528 subjects (randomly sampled from 1,020 patients with GPL, 200 patients with GC, and 762 normal controls) were included in our study. Urinary levels of iron (Fe), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), nickel (Ni), strontium (Sr), and Cesium (Cs) were measured using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Four different statistical approaches were employed to explore the risk of GPL and GC with mixed exposure, including multivariate logistic regression, weighted quantile regression (WQS), quantile g-computation (Qgcomp), and the Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) model., Results: The WQS model indicated that urinary exposure to a mixture of elements is positively correlated with both GPL and GC, with ORs for the mixture exposure of 1.34 (95% CI: 1.34-1.61) for GPL and 1.38 (95% CI: 1.27-1.50) for GC. Background: Evidence on the prevalence of smoking in China remains insufficient, with most previous studies focusing on a single region. However, smoking prevalence exhibits significant inequalities across the entire country. This study aimed to evaluate the risk of tobacco prevalence across the country, taking into account spatial inequalities., Methods: The data used in this study were collected in 23 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, and 4 municipalities directly under the central government in 2022. Large population survey data were used, and a Bayesian geostatistical model was employed to investigate smoking prevalence rates across multiple spatial domains., Findings: Significant spatial variations were observed in smokers and exposure to secondhand smoke across China. Higher levels of smokers and secondhand smoke exposure were observed in western and northeastern regions. Additionally, the autonomous region of Tibet, Shanghai municipality, and Yunnan province had the highest prevalence of smokers, while Tibet, Qinghai province, and Yunnan province had the highest prevalence of exposure to secondhand smoke., Conclusion: We have developed a model-based, high-resolution nationwide assessment of smoking risks and employed rigorous Bayesian geostatistical models to help visualize smoking prevalence predictions. These prediction maps provide estimates of the geographical distribution of smoking, which will serve as strong evidence for the formulation and implementation of smoking cessation policies., Highlights: Our study investigated the prevalence of smokers and exposure to secondhand smoke in different spatial areas of China and explored various factors influencing the smoking prevalence. Identifying the key influencing factors in soil available cadmium (Cd) is crucial for preventing the Cd accumulation in the food chain. However, current experimental methods and traditional prediction models for assessing available Cd are time-consuming and ineffective. In this study, machine learning (ML) models were developed to investigate the intricate interactions among soil properties, climate features, and available Cd, aiming to identify the key influencing factors. The optimal model was obtained through a combination of stratified sampling, Bayesian optimization, and 10-fold cross-validation. It was further explained through the utilization of permutation feature importance, 2D partial dependence plot, and 3D interaction plot. The findings revealed that pH, surface pressure, sensible heat net flux and organic matter content significantly influenced the Cd accumulation in the soil. By utilizing historical soil surveys and climate change data from China, this study predicted the spatial distribution trend of available Cd in the Chinese region, highlighting the primary areas with heightened Cd activity. These areas were primarily located in the eastern, southern, central, and northeastern China. This study introduces a novel methodology for comprehending the process of available Cd accumulation in soil. Aims : Epidemiological studies that use dietary biomarkers to investigate the association between whole grain intake and the risk of obesity are sparse. We assessed the association between urinary alkylresorcinol metabolites including 3-(3,5-dihydroxyphenyl)-1-propanoic acid (DHPPA) and 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHBA), biomarkers of whole grain wheat and rye intake, and body fat measures. Methods : We measured urinary excretion of DHPPA and DHBA, body weight, height, and circumferences of the waist and hip at the baseline and again after 1-year in a representative sample of 306 community-dwelling adults in Huoshan, China. We also measured liver fat accumulation [indicated by the controlled attenuation parameter (CAP)] and other body composition after 1 year. Multivariate-adjusted linear models and linear mixed-effects models were used to analyze single measurement and repeated measurements, respectively. Results : Each 1 μg g -1 creatinine increase in urinary DHPPA levels was associated with 0.21%, 0.23%, 3.64%, and 4.80% decrease in body weight, body mass index (BMI), body fat mass (BFM) and visceral fat level (VFL), respectively (all P < 0.05). Higher DHBA levels were inversely associated with CAP (percentage difference per 1 μg g -1 creatinine increment: -1.98%, P < 0.05). Higher total urinary alkylresorcinol metabolite (DHPPA + DHBA) levels were associated with lower body weight, BMI, BFM, VFL, and CAP, with the percentage differences per 1 μg g -1 creatinine increment of -0.27%, -0.27%, -3.79%, -5.12%, and -2.24%, respectively (all P < 0.05). Conclusions : Our findings suggest that the intake of whole grain wheat and rye, reflected by urinary DHPPA and DHBA, is favorably associated with liver fat and other fat measures.

Background: The SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant, with the main subtypes BA.5.2 and BF.7 in China, led to off-target effects on the S and N genes from December 1, 2022, to January 31, 2023. The kits used for studying and developing these agents were not adequately and independently evaluated. It is important to verify the performance of commercial Real-Time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) tests., Objective: We conducted a clinical evaluation of two Real Time SARS-CoV-2 Omicron assays to verify their performance using various detection reagents and clinical specimens., Methods: We performed clinical evaluations of two existing Chinese SARS-CoV-2 Omicron RT-qPCR kits 2019-nCoV nucleic acid diagnostic kits (Fosun Biotechnology, National instrument registration 20203400299, Shanghai, China) and COVID-19 nucleic acid detection kits (eDiagnosis Biomedicine, National instrument registration 20203400212, Wuhan, China) and using BSD (Bondson) (Guangzhou Bondson Biotechnology Co. Ltd, batch number 2022101), quality controls provided by the inspection center and a large number of clinically confirmed specimens., Results: The concordance rates for the Fosun and eDiagnosis kits were 95% and 100%, respectively. The detection limit for the Fosun and eDiagnosis kits was verified to be 300 copies/mL and 500 copies/mL. The Fosun assay exhibited the largest coefficient of variation (CV) for ORF1ab and N gene at the detection limit concentration (4.80%, 3.49%), whereas eDiagnosis showed a smaller CV (0.93%, 1.10%). In the reference product from the Hangzhou Clinical Laboratory Center test, it was found that Fosun had the lowest sensitivity of 93.47% and a specificity of 100%, while eDiagnosis exhibited 100% for both sensitivity and specificity. The lowest single target gene detection rate of Fosun reagents was 68.7% for the ORF1ab gene and 87.5% for the N gene, while eDiagnosis detection rate was 100%. Among the clinical group S specimens, the missed detection rate of the Fosun reagent was 10.9%, which was higher than the 3.9% of eDiagnosis. However, there was no significant difference in the clinical diagnostic efficiency of the two reagents., Conclusions: The ORF1ab and N assays of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron on the eDiagnosis platform yielded higher values compared to those on the Fosun platform. Consequently, the eDiagnosis kit has also been used as standard detection reagents. Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) is caused by avian coronavirus and poses a global economic threat to the poultry industry. In 2023, a highly pathogenic IBV strain, IBV/CN/GD20230501, was isolated and identified from chickens vaccinated with IBV-M41 in Guangdong, China. This study comprehensively investigated the biological characteristics of the isolated IBV strain, including its genotype, whole genome sequence analysis of its S1 gene, pathogenicity, host immune response, and serum non-targeted metabolomics. Through the analysis of the S1 gene sequence, serum neutralization tests, and comparative genomics, it was proven that IBV/CN/GD20230501 belongs to the GI-I type of strain and is serotype II. One alanine residue in the S1 subunit of the isolated strain was mutated into serine, and some mutations were observed in the ORF1ab gene and the terminal region of the genome. Animal challenge experiments using the EID 50 and TCID 50 calculations showed that IBV/CN/GD20230501 possesses strong respiratory pathogenicity, with early and long-term shedding of viruses and rapid viral spread. Antibody detection indicated that chickens infected with IBV/CN/GD20230501 exhibited delayed expression of early innate immune genes, while those infected with M41 showed rapid gene induction and effective viral control. Metabolomics analysis demonstrated that this virus infection led to differential expression of 291 ions in chicken serum, mainly affecting the citric acid cycle (tricarboxylic acid cycle).IMPORTANCEThis study identified an infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) strain isolated from vaccinated chickens in an immunized population that had certain sequence differences compared to IBV-M41, resulting in significantly enhanced pathogenicity and host defense. This strain has the potential to replace M41 as a more suitable challenge model for drug research. Nutrient loads in lakes are spatially heterogeneous, but current spatial analysis method are mainly zonal, making them subjective and uncertain. This study proposes a high-resolution model for assessing spatial differences in nutrient loads based on the lattice Boltzmann method. The model was applied to Dongping Lake in China. Firstly, the contribution rates of four influencing factors, including water transfer, inflow, wind, and internal load, were calculated at different locations in the lake. Then, their proportionate contributions during different intervals to the whole lake area were calculated. Finally, the cumulative load could be calculated for any location within the lake. The validation showed that the model simulated hydrodynamics and water quality well, with relative errors between the simulated and measured water quality data smaller than 0.45. Wind increased the nutrient loads in most parts of the lake. The loads tended to accumulate in the east central area where high-frequency circulation patterns were present. Overall, the proposed water quality model based on the lattice Boltzmann method was able to simulate seven indexes. Urban flood risk assessment is a complex task, as it requires extensive knowledge about hydrological features of the catchment, hydraulic characteristics of the drainage network and social characteristics of residential areas. How to accurately and efficiently quantify regional risk has always been a challenge in this field. To solve the problem, this study is developed to propose a novel integrated urban flood risk assessment approach based on one-two dimensional coupled hydrodynamic model and improved projection pursuit method. Two open source software like urban storm flood management model (SWMM) and TELEMAC-2D are introduced to build the one-two coupling hydrodynamic model through proprietary programming, which can accurately simulate urban inundation process. Based on the simulation results of hydrodynamic model and literature review, a set of urban flood risk assessment index system containing physical mechanism and statistical mechanism related index is established, including a total of 12 indicators covering three dimensions like hazard factor, exposure factor and vulnerability factor. Then an Improved Projection Pursuit (IPP) method coupling k-means clustering algorithm is proposed to determine the index weight. The novel integrated urban flood risk assessment approach is implemented in Suyu district, China. The results demonstrate that the accuracy and efficiency of evaluation urban flood risk assessment are greatly improved by the integrated approach. As an environmental institutional arrangement related to the information factor of the diversified participation of the government, enterprises, the media and the public, the environmental information disclosure pilot policy, can and how to affect the carbon emission efficiency through multiple collaborative governance? This study uses the Environmental Information Disclosure Pilot Policy implemented in China in 2007 as a quasi-natural experiment. It examines 284 prefecture-level cities from 2004 to 2021 and A-share listed companies from 2004 to 2021, constructing an evolutionary game dynamic model involving government, public, enterprises, and media. Through mathematical derivation and assignment analysis, it explores how environmental information impacts carbon emission efficiency under multifaceted collaborative governance, assessing the strategic choices and evolutionary paths of stakeholders before and after policy implementation, using methods like double machine learning for empirical testing. The study highlights several key findings: First, the implementation of the Environmental Information Disclosure Pilot Policy significantly enhanced carbon total factor productivity in pilot cities, as revealed through Double Machine Learning (DML) policy effect evaluation. Second, adjustments for potential estimation biases using Doubly Debiased LASSO (DDL) regression indicated that environmental information disclosure impacts carbon productivity via a governance mechanism involving government, public, media, and enterprises. Third, a causal pathway analysis suggested a sequential logic in governance effectiveness, starting from governmental environmental focus to corporate environmental responsibility. The intention of this study is to investigate the distribution of physical fitness of the geographical students. The indicators among freshmen at a Chinese geological university and compare their fitness levels with students from other types of institutions. The research revealed that students at higher latitudes exhibited greater physical strength but were less athletic than those at lower latitudes. Spatial dependence on physical fitness was more pronounced in males than in females, particularly for indicators characterizing athletic capacity. Influencing factors such as PM10, air temperature, rainfall, eggs consumption, grain consumption, and GDP which were identified as the major climate, dietary structure, and economic level were examined. Revised：PM10, air temperature and eggs consumption, factors influencing the spatial distribution of male physical fitness across the country. These factors were found to affect males (42.43%) more than females (25.33%). These findings highlight the significance of regional differences in students' physical fitness levels, with students in geological universities demonstrating better overall physical fitness compared to their counterparts at other schools. Antibiotic resistance genes (ARG) are widespread across various regions. While several studies have investigated the distribution of antibiotic resistance in natural environments, the occurrence and diversity of ARGs in the Three Gorges Reservoir have not been fully elucidated. In this study, we employed metagenomic sequencing techniques to investigate the abundance, diversity, and influencing factors of ARGs in the ecosystem of the Three Gorges Reservoir. A total of 874 ARGs, 20 antibiotic classes, and 6 resistance mechanisms were detected. The dominant ARG is the macB, the dominant antibiotic class is multidrug resistance (MDR), and the dominant resistance mechanism is antibiotic efflux. The microorganisms with the highest contribution to ARGs are Betaproteobacteria and Gammaproteobacteria. In this region, pH and NH 4 + concentration were significantly negatively correlated with the relative abundance of most ARGs, while NO 3 - concentration and TN were significantly positively correlated with the relative abundance of most ARGs. The results indicate that the Three Gorges Reservoir constitutes a significant reservoir of ARGs. By studying the distribution of ARGs in the sediments of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area and the relationship between environmental factors and ARGs, we can more comprehensively understand the pollution status of ARGs in this area, and provide theoretical support for subsequent treatment., (© 2024. Animal studies showed a detrimental effect of dietary branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) on metabolic health, while epidemiological evidence on dietary BCAAs and obesity is limited and inconclusive. We hypothesized that high dietary and circulating BCAAs are unfavorably associated with obesity in community-dwelling adults. We evaluated the 1-year longitudinal associations of dietary BCAA intake and circulating BCAAs with body fat measures. Body weight, height, and circumferences of the waist (WC) and hip (HC) were measured at baseline and again after 1-year. Body composition and liver fat [indicated by controlled attenuation parameter (CAP)] were also assessed after 1-year. Serum BCAA concentrations at baseline were quantified by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. Diet was collected using 4 quarterly 3-day recalls during the 1-year. The correlation coefficients between dietary and serum BCAAs were 0.12 (P = .035) for total dietary BCAAs, and ranged from -0.02 (soy foods, P = .749) to 0.18 (poultry, P = .001). Total dietary BCAA intake was associated with increase in body weight (β = 0.044, P = .022) and body mass index (BMI, β = 0.047, P = .043). BCAAs from animal foods were associated with increase in HC, while BCAAs from soy foods were associated with weight gain and higher CAP (all P < .05). Serum BCAAs were associated with higher WC, HC, BMI, body fat mass, visceral fat level, and CAP (all P < .05). These results support that dietary and circulating BCAAs are positively associated with the risk of obesity. The H10 subtype avian influenza virus (AIV) poses an ongoing threat to both birds and humans. Notably, fatal human cases of H10N3 and H10N8 infections have drawn public attention. In 2022, we isolated two H10N3 viruses (A/chicken/Shandong/0101/2022 and A/chicken/Shandong/0603/2022) from diseased chickens in China. Genome analysis revealed that these viruses were genetically associated with human-origin H10N3 virus, with internal genes originating from local H9N2 viruses. Compared to the H10N8 virus (A/chicken/Jiangxi/102/2013), the H10N3 viruses exhibited enhanced thermostability, increased viral release from erythrocytes, and accumulation of hemagglutinin (HA) protein. Additionally, we evaluated the pathogenicity of both H10N3 and H10N8 viruses in mice. We found that viral titers could be detected in the lungs and nasal turbinates of mice infected with the two H10N3 viruses, whereas H10N8 virus titers were detectable in the lungs and brains of mice. Notably, the proportion of double HA Q222R and G228S mutations in H10N3 viruses has increased since 2019. However, the functional roles of the Q222R and G228S double mutations in the HA gene of H10N3 viruses remain unknown and warrant further investigation. Our study highlights the potential public health risk posed by the H10N3 virus. A spillover event of AIV to humans could be a foretaste of a looming pandemic. On July 29, 2021, from 11:51 to 15:14, the Weather Modification Center of Hebei Province in China conducted warm cloud seeding experiments on the periphery cloud system of Typhoon "In-Fa" in the central and southern regions of Hebei Province, using a KingAir-350 aircraft to disperse warm cloud seeding agents (17 sticks of YF-1 warm cloud flares, including hygroscopic agents such as calcium chloride and potassium chloride, 400 g/stick). One hour after the operation, a band-shaped maximum precipitation area appeared downwind, indicating a significant increase in rainfall. The cloud physics detection equipment carried on the aircraft was used to detect the rainband on the periphery cloud system of the typhoon. The airborne detection data showed that the concentration of large particles (>50 µm) in warm clouds in the periphery cloud system of the typhoon was significantly higher than in other weather systems. The concentration of large particles had a higher correlation with water content than small particles. The water content of the warm clouds could reach 0.9 g/m3. After the warm cloud seeding agent was dispersed, the area where it was dispersed showed an increase in CIP (Cloud Imaging Probe, particle diameter >50 µm) concentration and a decrease in CDP (Cloud Droplet Probe, particle diameter <50 µm) concentration, indicating that the collision-coalescence process in the warm clouds was significantly enhanced. Objectives: To compare the effectiveness of using a 0.454% stannous fluoride-containing dentifrice twice daily in relieving dentinal hypersensitivity (DH) in a Chinese population., Materials and Methods: This was a single-centre, randomized, controlled, examiner-blind, three-treatment-arm, parallel-group study in participants with clinically diagnosed DH. Subjects who met inclusion criteria (n = 197) were randomly allocated into 3 groups: test group (n = 66)-using a 0.454% stannous fluoride-containing dentifrice twice daily; positive control group (n = 64)-using a 5.0% calcium sodium phosphosilicate-containing dentifrice twice daily; negative control group (n = 67)-using a 1150 ppm of NaF dentifrice twice daily. Status of DH was assessed at week 4 and week 8 by the same independent examiner. Changes from baseline in Schiff sensitivity score, tactile threshold and Dentine Hypersensitivity Experience Questionnaire (DHEQ) score were analysed using analysis of covariance models. The DHEQ evaluated subject-perceived oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL)., Results: Statistically significant improvements in mean Schiff scores (p < 0.0001 for all products at Weeks 4 and 8), tactile threshold (p < 0.0001 for test and negative control at Weeks 4 and 8: Week 4 p = 0.0040 and Week 8 p < 0.0001 for positive control) and all DHEQ scores (p < 0.01 for all groups) were observed. No statistically significant differences were observed in the adjusted mean between all dentifrices at both timepoints, potentially driven by a placebo effect. Forty-two treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) were reported (n = 32 subjects), with 2 serious AEs (n = 1) in the test group. TEAEs were not considered treatment-related., Conclusions: All groups demonstrated statistically significant improvements in Schiff score, tactile threshold and OHRQoL. Although phytoplankton is well known as robust bioindicators to aquatic environments, their indicating functions based on different community parameters remain to be understood. In order to filter effective bioindicators in aquatic ecosystems, four phytoplankton community parameters including species richness (SR), total biomass (SBP), functional groups (FGBP), and size-fractionated chlorophyll-a (SC) were demonstrated in a subtropical artificial lake with ecological restoration in South China. Our results indicated that all the above four parameters exhibited high sensitivity to environmental variations and illustrated distinct aspects of indicating functions to aquatic environments due to their individual biological characteristics. Based on FGBP, both spatial and temporal differences in phytoplankton community could be identified. SR and SBP only classified the spatial and temporal distributions, respectively, while SC could distinguish the sewage outfalls from other sites. In terms of ecological management, two parameters (SR and FGBP) could distinguish the restored waters from untreated environments as non-point source pollution, and another parameter SC could indicate the sewage outfalls as point source pollution. Therefore, the combination of the above two categories of phytoplankton community parameters could make the strongest indicating functions. Macroalgae culture-induced carbon sink in sediments has been little investigated. Here, total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN), and δ 13 C were examined in sediments in a cultivation field of macroalgae (kelp and Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis) in Sansha Bay, Southeast China. Both proxies of C/N (TOC to TN ratio) and δ 13 C indicated a multisource of TOC. Based on a three-endmember model, macroalgae-derived TOC (TOC ma ) accounted for < 35% of the total TOC, averaging 16 ± 9% (mean ± SD). On average, terrestrial and phytoplankton-derived TOC showed much higher percentages of 24 ± 17% and 60 ± 20%, respectively (t-test, p < 0.02). A preliminary estimate suggested that TOC ma represents a carbon sink of 8.2 × 10 3 tons per year, corresponding to about 22% of the sink associated with phytoplankton and macroalgae and 8 ± 6% of the macroalgae carbon production in Sansha Bay. Considering its production magnitude, the macroalgae-induced carbon sink seems to be insignificant, on a national or global scale, to phytoplankton, though it should be taken into account given the small cultivation area., (© 2023. Pathogens of the enterovirus genus, including poliovirus and coxsackieviruses, typically circulate in the summer months suggesting a possible positive association between warmer weather and transmission. Here we evaluate the environmental and demographic drivers of enterovirus transmission, as well as the implications of climate change for future enterovirus circulation. We leverage pre-vaccination era data on polio in the US as well as data on two enterovirus A serotypes in China and Japan that are known to cause hand, foot, and mouth disease. Using mechanistic modeling and statistical approaches, we find that enterovirus transmission appears positively correlated with temperature although demographic factors, particularly the timing of school semesters, remain important. We use temperature projections from Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) to simulate future outbreaks under late 21st-century climate change for Chinese provinces. We find that outbreak size increases with climate change on average, though results differ across climate models depending on the degree of wintertime warming. Wu-Zheng-Dao District in China is the world's most famous mining areas. It hosts several world-class deposits, such as Xinming, Datang and Luolong bauxite deposits. Although this area still has significant potential for the discovery of new deposits, mineral prediction has become increasingly diffcult as the number of shallow deposits diminishes. Therefore, it is necessary to explore new and effective metallogenic prediction methods.Weights of evidence and machine-learning algorithms were used for mineral prospecting in this study. This study used a confusion matrix, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve,and prediction efficiency curve to evaluate the prediction results of each machine algorithm. The results showed that 95.9% of the deposits were located in high and distant scenic areas, accounting for 10% of the total area.The prospectivity map of the Wu-Zheng-Dao district shows that the high prospective areas are generally confined to the claystone and carbonatite rocks of the Eastern region, in particular, of the clay layers, and several areas of high prospectivity also occur in the Southern Cross Domain. Objective: Self-rated health (SRH) has been documented as an important predictor of quality of life among the elderly and its risk factors are vision-specific among elderly males. The aim of this study was to clarify vision-specific risk factors to SRH among elderly females without dementia in Chinese urban areas., Methods: From March to November 2012, 2147 elderly women in Liaoning Province of China were selected using a stratified sampling method. After cognitive screening, 1956 participants without dementia were finally enrolled. A questionnaire including SRH, visual ability and factors including demographic characteristics, physical conditions, lifestyle factors, social psychological status and social activities were analyzed. Multivariate logistic regression was used to clarify the association of SRH with risk factors, while stepwise multivariate logistic regression was used to examine the vision-specific associations with SRH., Results: The mean age was 73.6 ± 5.82 (mean ± SD). The percentages of good SRH in good and impaired visual ability groups were 36.2% and 24.4%, respectively. Most characteristics between elderly females with different visual abilities were significantly different. Visual ability had interactions with physical conditions, lifestyle factors and social activities to affect SRH. Among elderly females with good visual ability, depressive symptoms, rather than chronic disease had the strongest association with good SRH followed by marital status, regular diet, going out alone to distant places, taking a walk, smoking and alcohol consumption. In the impaired visual ability group, going out alone to distant places had the strongest association with good SRH followed by chronic disease, filial piety, taking a walk, participating in entertainment, ethnicity, quality of sleep, worrying about falling and alcohol consumption., Conclusions: Good SRH status was at a low level especially among elderly females with impaired visual ability and the risk factors differed between elderly females with different visual abilities. Aims : Plant-derived lignans may protect against obesity, while their bioactivity needs gut microbial conversion to enterolignans. We used repeated measures to identify enterolignan-predicting microbial species and investigate whether enterolignans and enterolignan-predicting microbial species are associated with obesity. Methods : Urinary enterolignans, fecal microbiota, body weight, height, and circumferences of the waist (WC) and hips (HC) were repeatedly measured at the baseline and after 1 year in 305 community-dwelling adults in Huoshan, China. Body composition and liver fat [indicated by the controlled attenuation parameter (CAP)] were measured after 1 year. Multivariate-adjusted linear models and linear mixed-effects models were used to analyze single and repeated measurements, respectively. Results : Enterolactone and enterodiol levels were both inversely associated with the waist-to-hip ratio, body fat mass (BFM), visceral fat level (VFL), and liver fat accumulation (all P < 0.05). Enterolactone levels were also associated with lower WC ( β = -0.0035 and P = 0.013) and HC ( β = -0.0028 and P = 0.044). We identified multiple bacterial genera whose relative abundance was positively associated with the levels of enterolactone (26 genera) and enterodiol (22 genera, all P false discovery rate < 0.05), and constructed the enterolactone-predicting microbial score and enterodiol-predicting microbial score to reflect the overall enterolignan-producing potential of the host gut microbiota. Both these scores were associated with lower body weight and CAP (all P < 0.05). The enterolactone-predicting microbial score was also inversely associated with the BFM ( β = -0.1128 and P = 0.027) and VFL ( β = -0.1265 and P = 0.044). Conclusion : Our findings support that modulating the host gut microbiome could be a potential strategy to prevent obesity by enhancing the production of enterolignans.

Background: The association between soy isoflavones intake and cardiometabolic health remains inconclusive. We investigated the associations of urinary biomarkers of isoflavones including daidzein, glycitein, genistein, equol (a gut microbial metabolite of daidzein), and equol-predicting microbial species with cardiometabolic risk markers., Methods and Results: In a 1-year study of 305 Chinese community-dwelling adults aged ≥18 years, urinary isoflavones, fecal microbiota, blood pressure, blood glucose and lipids, and anthropometric data were measured twice, 1 year apart. Brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity was also measured after 1 year. A linear mixed-effects model was used to analyze repeated measurements. Logistic regression was used to calculate the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) and 95% CI for the associations for arterial stiffness. Each 1 μg/g creatinine increase in urinary equol concentrations was associated with 1.47%, 0.96%, and 3.32% decrease in triglycerides, plasma atherogenic index, and metabolic syndrome score, respectively (all P <0.05), and 0.61% increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ( P =0.025). Urinary equol was also associated with lower risk of arterial stiffness (aOR, 0.28 [95% CI, 0.09-0.90]; P trend =0.036). We identified 21 bacterial genera whose relative abundance was positively associated with urinary equol (false discovery rate-corrected P <0.05) and constructed a microbial species score to reflect the overall equol-predicting capacity. This score (per 1-point increase) was inversely associated with triglycerides (percentage difference=-1.48%), plasma atherogenic index (percentage difference=-0.85%), and the risk of arterial stiffness (aOR, 0.27 [95% CI, 0.08-0.88]; all P <0.05)., Conclusions: Our findings suggest that urinary equol and equol-predicting microbial species may improve cardiometabolic risk parameters in Chinese adults.

This study evaluated muti-mycotoxins in 199 samples including processed infant foods and raw materials collected randomly from an infant food company and assessed their role in dietary exposure in infants and young children via probabilistic risk assessment. Approximately 79.6 % (74/93) of the processed infant foods and 65.1 % (69/106) of the raw materials were contaminated by mycotoxins, with a mean occurrence level of 3.66-321.8 µg/kg. Deoxynivalenol (DON) and tenuazonic acid (TeA) were the more prevalent mycotoxins detected, based on their higher frequencies and levels across samples. Co-occurrence of more than two mycotoxins was detected in 61.3 % (57/93) of the processed infant foods and 53.8 % (57/106) of the raw materials. Wheat flour and derived products (e.g., infant noodles and infant biscuits) were contaminated with higher contamination levels and a greater variety of mycotoxins than other samples (e.g., infant cereal and rice grains). The estimated daily exposure to OTA, DON, ZEN, and TEN was lower than the corresponding reference health-based guidance values, indicating acceptable health risks. However, the estimated dietary exposure to alternariol monomethyl ether (AME), alternariol (AOH), and tenuazonic acid (TeA) exceeded the corresponding thresholds of toxicological concern values, indicating potential dietary intake risks. Among the various samples, cereals and cereal-based infant foods emerged as the primary contributors to mycotoxin exposure.
