Objective: to know the discourses attributed by students entering the Bachelor's course in Nursing to the epistemic units health and disease. Method: exploratory-descriptive, qualitative approach. The research was conducted with 29 beginners of the Bachelor's degree in Nursing at a public university located in the city of Boa Vista, Roraima state. The strategy for data production was the Dramatic Play using the image inducer. The raw data were recorded by scribes during class and analyzed according to the speech. Results: known discourses involved health, social determinants of health, diseases, nursing performance in health-disease processes and expanded discourses on the Unified Health System. Final considerations: through the dramatic play, the nursing freshmen highlighted discourses on health promotion, disease prevention, social elements in health interface, nursing know-how and expanded reflections on health system. Objective: to analyze nurses' discourse about the potentialities in using information technologies as organizational support for the COVID-19 coping actions in Primary Health Care. Method: a qualitative and exploratory study conducted in the Family Health Strategy units from the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil. Data collection was carried out from September to November 2021 with 26 nurses selected through the snowball technique, resorting to a semi-structured interview script. The empirical material was organized in the Atlas.ti 9 software and grounded on the theoretical- methodological contribution of Discourse Analysis, French Line. Results: three discursive blocks were evidenced: innovation based on social media; health education actions; resoluteness in organizational actions, presenting the relevance of the WhatsApp®, Instagram® and Facebook® apps as strategic resources, in order to collaborate in the Primary Health Care are with the organization of health actions against COVID-19 by nurses. Conclusion: health units have the potential to strengthen the assistance provided through digital organizational devices; however, they need political support that invests in the structure and strategies to enhance organization of the health actions. The history of Brazilian nurses is marked by several challenges, in part resulting from discontinuous and fragile activity boundaries among the health professions that share the same work objective in care services. A field of constant disputes, the Brazilian health system, was the target of a lawsuit filed by the Federal Council of Medicine that temporarily suspended nurses' activities in primary care. This study aimed to demonstrate the manipulative discourse present in the text of the injunction request by medical doctors against legislation by the Brazilian Federal Government in 2017. This is a qualitative and documental study that used the theoretical–methodological framework of critical discourse studies based on Teun Van Dijk's analytical categories. The results pointed to manipulative discourse through a polarization between manipulators' good qualities and intentions and the bad qualities of nurses and Brazilian primary care policies; episodic manipulation by the presentation of documental and historical evidence of the submission of nursing roles; and social manipulation marked by strong emotional appeal. The study demonstrated that manipulative discourse extrapolated linguistic categories in the form of ideology and history. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: to analyze the nurses’ discourses about the actions and strategies of care for the elderly with tuberculosis in primary health care services. Method: exploratory study, with qualitative approach, developed in the municipality of João Pessoa, Paraíba. Nurses working in Primary Health Care and who assisted elderly people diagnosed with tuberculosis in the municipality were included in the study. The empirical data were analyzed using the theoretical analytical device of the Discourse Analysis of the French matrix. Results: it was evidenced that the effective implementation of active search, incentives, home visits, comprehensive care for the elderly, health education and exams favor the control of the disease, in addition to the therapeutic adherence of the elderly. Final considerations: the nurses’ discourses elucidated that professionals should rethink how they are producing care for the elderly, especially those with tuberculosis, because this population lacks specific attention, with their own singularities. Background: Mismatch between the perception of one's moral duty and one's real social contribution may trigger moral distress, especially when no specific resistance strategies are used to counteract morally distressing situations. Considering a philosophical-ethical conception, individuals need to first reflect upon themselves to later turn to the world and confront their current situation in order to change it. Objectives: To understand moral distress experienced by nursing professors teaching in higher education institutions and the use of parrhesia as a coping strategy. Method: This qualitative exploratory-descriptive study addressed 33 nursing professors working in Brazilian federal public universities using an open-ended question form. Data were collected between June and December 2018 and analyzed using discursive textual analysis. Ethical considerations: The Institutional Review Board at the Federal University of Rio Grande approved this study. Findings: Three categories emerged: performance of nursing professors and potentially distressing situations, the experience of moral distress, and parrhesia as a strategy to deal with moral distress. Nursing professors face situations that cause moral distress in the context of higher education, however, those who adopt parrhesia as a coping strategy find it easier to express their beliefs from the perspective of moral duty, even in the face of conflicts. Conclusion: When the nursing professors in this study acknowledge elements in the power structure that hinder their actions, they express parrhesia, as an essential virtue in an attempt to modify unsymmetrical power relations that can trigger moral distress. Objective: Describe the use of Yoga in breastfeeding support, from the perspective of nursing mothers. Methods: This is an exploratory, descriptive study with a qualitative approach, with ten lactating women, from the municipality of Niterói - RJ, in the period between May and September 2018, using the structured interview, workshop as data production tool Yoga and field diary. The data were submitted to discourse analysis in the thematic modality. Results: Three categories were identified: Yoga as emotional and physical support for mothers; The assistance of the health team, and the meanings of the experience during the parturition and breastfeeding process; and The mother-baby relationship as a basis for maternal well-being and continuity of breastfeeding. Conclusion: The convergence between Yoga and breastfeeding is identified, since the physiological and psychic processes are manifested in the health of the physical body, holistically interconnected. The senses and negative emotions, reported in the breastfeeding process were minimized with the use of yoga as a therapeutic resource. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: to analyze the barriers to access HIV rapid test from the perspective of the discourse of managers of Primary Health Care services. Method: exploratory, qualitative research conducted in a health district of João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil. Data collection was performed in September 2017 with 13 health managers. The empirical material was based on the theoretical-methodological contribution of the Discourse Analysis of the French matrix. Results: the discursive block "Barriers of user access in the health system to perform the HIV rapid test in Primary Health Care" was identified. The discourses revealed barriers of access tied to the dimensions: geographical accessibility, availability, feasibility and acceptability. Final considerations: the units have the potential to strengthen the performance of the HIV rapid test, however, they need political support aimed at strategies to strengthen the performance of the rapid test with scope to reduce access barriers. Background. Occupational therapy practice is enhanced through clear understanding of its epistemological foundations. In the area of substance use, practices are strongly functionalist. Purpose. This study unearths epistemologies through analyzing practices addressing the social needs of clients with problematic substance use. Method. This study used an exploratory qualitative approach and was based on Marxist philosophies. Qualitative interviews were conducted with nine occupational therapists experienced in working with substance users. Data were analyzed through a dialectic approach to content analysis based on the Marxist theory of labour process. Findings. The occupational therapy practices were found to follow common principles: clients are agents of transformation in health processes; creativity is a strong element of practice and underlies the whole therapeutic process; and conditions of social reproduction compose the object of occupational therapy (i.e., what is transformed through occupational therapy practices). Two different approaches using these principles were uncovered according to the labour-process purposes: inclusive and emancipatory. Implications. Systematization of practices based on epistemological foundations strengthens occupational therapists' ability to link actions to theories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: to identify nurses' social representations about the relationship among prostitution, health and the Family Health Strategy. Method: qualitative study supported by the Theory of Social Representations, carried out with 12 nurses from the Family Health Strategy. Data collection used the Free Words Association technique and structured interviews. The data were organized using an association of the lexical content and the Collective Subject Discourse, presented in a figure and tables, analyzed in a descriptive and interpretative way. Results: the social representations of the nurses influence the actions and behaviors offered insofar as they are restricted to the sexual and reproductive sphere, to the detriment of the contextual aspects of everyday life, work and health. Conclusion: nurses' social representations link sexual practices to the risk of catching sexually transmitted infections and lacks the articulation of health promotion and the principle of integrality. Purpose: to present the opinion of professionals about street dwellers undergoing treatment of tuberculosis and identify strategies of control of tuberculosis in this population. Method: an exploratory and descriptive study involving 17 health professionals working in street clinics. A semi-structured study composed of closed questions and a guiding question. The statements were analyzed using the discourse analysis technique, resulting in the identification of two analytical categories: 1. Meanings attributed to street dwellers with tuberculosis, and 2. Control of tuberculosis in homeless people. Results: the analysis identified situations that limited adherence to tuberculosis treatment, including the reasons for staying in the streets, living conditions, and risk factors (dependence on alcohol and other drugs, short-sightedness, constant relocations, and lack of perspectives). Street dwellers were knowledgeable about the disease. Furthermore, there were difficulties in solving several problems of people living in the streets, including living conditions and lifestyle, social stigma, relocations, drug abuse, and lack of life project. Conclusion: coping with the complexity of situations related to living in the streets limits to the work of health professionals because these situations go beyond health care and require intersectoral actions. Objectives: To determine if men undergo the examination for prostate cancer detection, and uncover the difficulties to perform it. Methods: Exploratory and transversal study. It was attended by 52 employees of the Court of Justice of the State of São Paulo. For the collection of information a story was elaborated with questions related to the subject. The following demographic data were also collected: age, education, function and religion. The methodology used to analyze the data was the Discourse of the Collective Subject. Results: 75% of the individuals had already performed some type of examination, which indicated an important change in the male scenario. However, it was possible to observe aspects peculiar to masculinity; Among respondents, only one made explicit the rectal examination. Conclusions: Taboo, prejudice, shame and fear are still dangerous reality data. Professionals and services should be prepared to receive and welcome this audience. Objective: to understand how nurses understand the applicability of early intension directives in the care of the last phases of life. Methodology: qualitative, descriptive and exploratory research, carried out with eight nurses from a university hospital in the south of Brazil, in December 2014, based on semi-structured interviews, submitted to discursive textual analysis. Results: three categories emerged: conflicts in patient care in the final phase; Advantages and difficulties in the applicability of antecipated directives of intention; Benefits in the applicability of the antecipated intension directives by the nursing. The perception that food affects our health has increased over the past fifty years in industrialised Western countries. The notion of "healthy food" has become ubiquitous in medical, political, and media discourse as well as in the discourses of the lay population. This study seeks to understand the social representations of "healthy food" of Brazilian, Spanish and French dietitians and young laywomen. A qualitative and comparative methodology based on 131 individual semi-structured interviews was set up. According to the analysis of the discourses, the notion of "healthy food" is ambivalent and polysemic. Scientific-nutritional rationality is not the only way to think about "healthy food". Two main ways of categorising "healthy foods" are observed in the three countries. They are based on eating analysis criteria that referred to diverse value systems and different scientific, symbolic and moral rationalities: on the one hand, a physiological, nutritional and functional conception, and on the other, an "eco-ideological" conception that took into account production, culture and distribution methods. Though dietitians have a greater technical knowledge of nutrients and metabolic processes than laywomen, professionals and young laywomen, mainly within the same nationality, shared similar discourses concerning the notion of "healthy food", revealing patterns that differentiate each nationality. Taking together, the results reveal that although medical-nutritional discourses are disseminated internationally, discourses on "healthy food" are constructed taking into account social, cultural, symbolic and moral dimensions.
