Background: Transgender women and cisgender men sex workers are vulnerable to HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This study aimed to explore in depth the prevalence of syndemic conditions and their association with the sexual risk behaviors for HIV/STI acquisition in cis men and trans women sex workers in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain)., Method: We conducted a study between 2014 and 2018 to determine whether syndemic conditions (frequent alcohol consumption and polydrug use (> 2) during sex with clients; experience of violence; and lack of healthcare access) are associated with HIV/STI sexual risk behaviors. A "syndemic index" was calculated based on the cumulative number of syndemic conditions (0 to 4)., Results: In the last year (2018), 78.8% of cisgender men and 68.1% of transgender women reported at least one syndemic condition. The most prevalent syndemic factor in both cisgender men and transgender women was violence (38.8% and 43.6% respectively). In multivariable analysis, an association was found between condomless anal sex and violence (aOR = 1.81), and frequent alcohol consumption and violence with reporting > 10 clients/week (aOR = 2.73 and 1.88, respectively). The higher the number of syndemic factors, the greater probability of having > 10 clients/week and reporting condomless anal sex with clients., Conclusion: Psychosocial conditions have a syndemic effect on risky sexual behaviors highlighting the need for a more holistic approach to HIV/STI prevention targeting these populations., (© 2022. Traditional gender role beliefs, or marianismo beliefs, are theorized to be largely protective against health risk behaviors, including sexual risk behaviors among Latina young adults. However, measurement differences across studies and research with heterogeneous samples of abstinent and sexually active Latina young adults have led to unclear findings. Thus, we investigated whether endorsement of certain marianismo beliefs may promote sexual health behaviors or solely promote abstinence. Guided by gender role schema theory, this study investigated the multidimensional construct of marianismo beliefs in relation to past-year abstinence from sexual activity, STI and HIV testing, and condom use among 611 Latina young adults. Results indicated that endorsement of the Virtuous and Chaste belief was associated with decreased odds of sexual activity (i.e., increased odds of being abstinent) in the past year. None of the five marianismo beliefs were significantly linked with condom use. Among sexually active participants, the Virtuous and Chaste belief was associated with decreased likelihood to be tested for both STIs and HIV in the past year. Findings support the notion that certain marianismo beliefs (e.g., the Virtuous and Chaste belief) may promote abstinence, yet pose a risk for sexual health via reduced likelihood for STI and HIV testing. Results may inform culturally-tailored HIV prevention interventions with Latinas to reduce the disproportionate HIV burden in this population., (© 2023. In the last few years, the frequency of sexually transmitted infections (STI) has increased, as has the number of people with multiple infections. The aim of our study was to describe the epidemiological characteristics of persons with repeated bacterial STI and to determine the risk factors for these episodes in persons living in Barcelona during the period 2007-2018. We studied all cases of bacterial STI included in the STI registry of Barcelona. Repeated STI were defined as a diagnosis of gonorrhea, syphilis, or lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) after a first episode of one of these infections. Analysis was stratified by sex and place of birth. The factors associated with time to reinfection were determined by Kaplan-Meier estimates, while the factors associated with risk of infection were determined by a Cox proportional hazards model. Of 9927 persons with a diagnosis of bacterial STI, 1690 (17.0%) had at least two episodes of STI during the study period. On multivariate analysis, repeat STI were independently associated with male sex assigned at birth (HR: 3.45; 95%CI 2.22-5.36), age less than 34 years (HR: 1.22; 95%CI 1.10-1.35); gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, and transgender o transsexual woman (GBSMS/Trans) (HR: 4.03; 95%CI 3.24-5.03), having gonorrhea as first diagnosis (HR:1.49, 95%CI 1.34-1.66) or LGV (HR:1.75; 95%CI 1.47-2.08) and coinfection with HIV (HR:1.98; 95%CI 1.78-2.21). Even though prior research has investigated the relationship between same-sex partnership recognition policies and health outcomes, the impact of same-sex marriage laws on sexually transmitted infections has not received much attention. Using state-level panel data from 2000 to 2019, I show that marriage equality legislation decreases the spread of (shorter-term) syphilis infections and of (longer-term) human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) infections among the general population. Event study analyses correcting for non-staggered treatment implementation confirm these negative effects, but also suggest that standard difference-in-differences models understate the impact of the legislation by up to 8% points. Further analysis supports that these legislation effects operate through three mechanisms: increasing social tolerance, strengthening relationship commitment, and expanding health care access and coverage for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. Disaggregating the results by sexual behavior reveals that legal access to same-sex marriage leads to sizable decreases in AIDS rates among men who have sex with men (MSM) (the most at-risk population for an infection). Abstract: The objective of this study was to explore how receiving a sexually transmitted infection (STI) diagnosis affects subsequent STI knowledge and sexual risk behavior among key populations in La Romana, Dominican Republic (DR) who participated in a parent study 12 to 24 months before the current study. Nine participants, with a mean age of 37 years (range 20-54 years) and a female majority (89%), who were recruited from the parent study completed in-depth interviews, questionnaires assessing STI knowledge, and received STI testing. Interviews were analyzed using qualitative descriptive methodology and questionnaire data, comparing individual's responses between the parent and current studies. Participants reported safer sexual behaviors after original STI diagnosis, such as more frequent condom use. Questionnaires showed improvement in STI knowledge between the parent and current studies. Three participants had an STI reinfection. In the United States, a context of multiple marginalization shapes sexual health disparities experienced by transgender women. Using data from 396 transgender women with negative or unknown HIV status, we performed exploratory factor analysis on responses to gender identity and sexual behavior stigma items and regressed sexual health outcomes on extracted factors via modified Poisson regression with robust variance estimation. Overall, 97.2% of participants endorsed ≥ 1 gender identity stigma; 67.2% endorsed ≥ 1 sexual behavior stigma; and 66.9% endorsed ≥ 1 of each. Extracted factors included gender-identity social stigma, reflecting experiences related to family, fearfulness in public, and verbal harassment (α = 0.68); gender-identity institutional stigma/violence, reflecting experiences related to healthcare, police interactions, and interpersonal violence (α = 0.73); and global sexual behavior stigma, reflecting experiences related to family, friends, and healthcare, as well as police interactions, fearfulness in public, verbal harassment, and interpersonal violence (α = 0.83). Gender-identity social stigma was significantly, positively associated with testing for HIV and testing for sexually transmitted infections. Gender-identity institutional stigma/violence and global sexual behavior stigma were both significantly, positively associated with condomless anal sex, sex work, testing for HIV, testing for sexually transmitted infections, and use of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis. This secondary analysis of cross-sectional baseline data from an intervention trial study examines demographics, sexually transmitted infection (STI) history, substance use and sexual risk behaviors among young adult nightclub participants who do (n = 79) and do not (n = 419) frequent "strip" or adult entertainment clubs (AECs) in Miami, Florida. AEC patrons were older, and more likely to identify as Black race and report STI history. Compared to those who do not, AEC patrons also reported greater recent (past 90-day) frequencies of alcohol and ecstasy use, higher numbers of recent sex partners and were more likely to report recently being high during sex a majority of the time. Historically, sexually concurrent relationships have been associated with increased risk for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV. Due to socio-structural factors, African Americans (AAs) have higher rates of STIs compared to other racial groups and are more likely to engage in sexually concurrent (SC) relationships. Current research has challenged the assumption that SC is the only risky relationship type, suggesting that both SC and sexually exclusive (SE) relationships are at equal risk of STI and HIV acquisition and that both relationship types should engage in safer sex practices. This study aimed to compare sex practices and behaviors among AA men and women in SC and SE relationships (N = 652). Results demonstrate differences in sexual practices and behaviors between SC and SE men and women. Overall, SC and SE women report condom use with male partners less frequently than SC and SE men. SC men were more likely to report substance use during sex compared to SC and SE women. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use did not differ across groups. SE men were less likely to report STI testing and diagnosis compared to SC women. Findings support the need to focus on culturally and gender-specific safer sex interventions among AAs., (© 2021. W. Background: HIV-uninfected persons being evaluated for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) may be good HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) candidates. We measured PrEP use in a sentinel STI patient population., Design: Cross-sectional study, New York City Sexual Health Clinics (January 2019-June 2019)., Methods: Remnant serum samples from 644 HIV-uninfected men who have sex with men (MSM) and 97 women diagnosed with chlamydia, gonorrhea, and/or early syphilis were assayed for tenofovir and emtricitabine levels using a validated liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry assay. Using paired test results and medical records, we assessed (1) prevalence and (2) correlates of PrEP use on the day of STI diagnosis (adjusted prevalence ratios [aPRs])., Results: PrEP use among 741 patients was 32.7% [95% confidence interval (CI): 29.3 to 36.0]; 37.3% for MSM and 2.1% for women. PrEP use was high among White MSM (46.8%) and lowest among women. Among MSM with rectal chlamydia/gonorrhea or early syphilis, PrEP use was associated with age [aPR = 1.7 (95% CI: 1.2 to 2.4) for ages 25-34 years and aPR = 2.0 (1.4 to 2.9) for ages 35-44 years, vs. 15 to 24 years]; number of recent sex partners [aPR = 1.4 (1.0 to 2.0) for 3-5 partners, aPR = 2.1 (1.5 to 3.0) for 6-10 partners, aPR = 2.2 (1.6 to 3.1) for >10 partners, vs. ≤2 partners]; having sex/needle-sharing partners with HIV [aPR = 1.4 (1.1-1.7)]; and inconsistent condom use [aPR = 3.3 (1.8-6.1)]. Race/ethnicity, past-year STI diagnosis, and postexposure prophylaxis use were not associated., Conclusions: One in 3 people with newly diagnosed STIs had detectable serum PrEP, and PrEP use was exceedingly rare among women. Sexually transmitted infections (STI) constitute a major share of the diseases encountered by physicians. Although science has made considerable progress in terms of diagnosing and treating such infections, development of effective and safe vaccines is still needed. Syphilis, viral warts, gonorrhoea, genital herpes, chlamydia and trichomoniasis are the most common infections that are transmitted sexually. Background: Men who have sex with men (MSM) are at risk for sexually-transmitted hepatitis C (HCV). Evidence for HCV infection in the context of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use in North America is limited. We sought to characterize baseline HCV prevalence and incidence in MSM receiving PrEP in British Columbia (BC), Canada., Methods: We followed individuals in the BC PrEP program from January 2018 to August 2019. We evaluated baseline prevalence and incident seroconversions (newly positive HCV antibody). A multivariable logistic regression model was performed in MSM for factors associated with HCV prevalence at enrollment, including reported prior sexually transmitted infection (STI), HIV Incidence Risk Index for MSM score, PrEP use because of a partner living with HIV, and location of residence., Results: The median age of the cohort was 33 years, 98.3% male, with 3058 person years (PY) of follow-up. Baseline HCV prevalence was 0.82% (31/3907 MSM enrollees) and HCV incidence (n = 3) was 0.15 per 100 PY (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.03-0.45). In multivariable analysis, initiating PrEP because of a partner living with HIV (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 5.02; 95% CI 1.87-13.47) and prior STI (aOR 2.34; 95% CI 1.04-5.24) were associated with positive HCV status., Conclusions: Baseline HCV prevalence and incidence was low amongst MSM in a population-based PrEP program in BC, Canada. HCV was associated with bridging from populations living with HIV and evidence of a reported prior STI as a PrEP indicator condition amongst MSM. Background: Our goal was to develop and evaluate an anonymous self-administrable web-based test to determine risk for HIV/STI., Methods: The Online HIV/STI Risk Test was developed and hosted since 12/2017. 11,529 participants completed the test and 10,668 were analyzed. The test included multiple choice questions about sociodemographic data, sexuality, sexual risk behavior, HIV/STI testing. Participant data was stratified by gender and sexuality and analyzed., Results: 84.5 % were aged 18-39, 7.5 % < 18 and 8.1 % > 40. Males were 53.1 %, female 46.3 % and trans 0.6 %. 12.5 % were men who have sex with men (MSM). 59.1 % and 66.0 % of participants were vaccinated for hepatitis A and B respectively, but 75.1 % unvaccinated for HPV. Prior and repeated instances of HIV or other STI were higher among MSM. Yet, 61.4 % females, 70 % males and 55.4 % MSM had never tested for an STI. Although prevalence of > 3 sexual partners in the last twelve months was highest among MSM, condomless sex was greater among women. 34.5 % of males, 25.6 % of females, and 75 % of MSM engaged in anal sex respectively., Conclusions: The online HIV/STI Risk Test is a useful tool to acquire data on STI risk-behavior for strategizing STI prevention, testing, and vaccination, thus improving sexual health., (© 2022 The Authors. Female sex workers' livelihoods in Zimbabwe have been severely impacted by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic due to closure of entertainment venues. Competition over fewer clients has reduced ability to negotiate condom use. At the same time as partner numbers have decreased, frequency of reported condomless sex has not increased, suggesting potential reduction in overall HIV and sexually transmitted infection risk and an opportunity for programmes to reach sex workers with holistic social and economic support and prevention services., (Copyright © 2021 The Author(s). Abstract: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend screening men who have sex with men who are living with HIV for sexually transmitted infections at appropriate extragenital contact sites for bacterial sexually transmitted infections. In an effort to increase provider adherence to CDC recommended guidelines at a Ryan White Clinic, microlearning educational sessions were used. A quality improvement project was designed to determine the rate of provider adherence to CDC guidelines pre/post microlearning sessions. Student t-test was used to compare the number of patients who received urine and extragenital screening to those who received urine-only screening, to before and after the microlearning sessions. The rate of extragenital screening significantly increased after the microlearning sessions (4/460 vs. 70/507, p < .0001). The rate of urine screening remained unchanged (p = 1). Although extragenital screening significantly increased, it remained low. Black men who have sex with men (MSM) engaged in sex work (BMSM-SW) experience elevated HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevalence. Further, BMSM-SW have been shown to have higher rates of syndemic psychosocial health conditions which contribute to HIV risk behavior and incidence, and poorer care outcomes than other groups of men who have sex with men. However, syndemic perspectives have not been applied to understanding past-year STI burden among BMSM-SW in the U.S. Sexually active Black MSM ≥ 18 years old were recruited from Black Pride events in six U.S. cities (n = 4421) between 2014 and 2017. Multivariable logistic regressions assessed correlates of past-year sex work engagement; whether BMSM-SW had higher odds of syndemic conditions; and whether BMSM-SW had higher odds of self-reported, past-year STI diagnoses. Structural equation models assessed relationships between sex work engagement, syndemic conditions, and STI controlled for sociodemographics and number of sexual partners. A total of 254 (5.7%) Black MSM reported past-year sex work, of whom 45.3% were HIV positive. BMSM-SW were significantly more likely to be Hispanic, to report past-year bisexual behavior, and to report annual income < $10,000. In multivariable models, BMSM-SW were significantly more likely to report intimate partner violence, assault victimization, polydrug use, and depression symptoms; they were also more likely to report past-year gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis. Syndemic conditions mediated the relationship between past-year sex work and past-year STI burden, constituting a significant indirect effect. BMSM-SW in the U.S. face severe biopsychosocial health disparities. Interventions developed for BMSM engaged in sex work are lacking. Our results suggest that interventions containing safer sex work education and sex-positive biobehavioral HIV/STI prevention alongside substance use, mental health, employment, and education components will be most effective.

Background: Many US health departments now integrate HIV-related outcomes (e.g., relinkage to HIV care and preexposure prophylaxis [PrEP]) into sexually transmitted disease (STD) partner services (PS) programs. We sought to determine the barriers, facilitators, and cost of integrating these activities into PS., Methods: From 2016 to 2018, the Mississippi State Department of Health integrated 3 new activities into STD PS: HIV testing for partners of HIV-negative men who have sex with men with gonorrhea/chlamydia, relinkage to HIV care for STD PS recipients previously diagnosed with HIV, and PrEP referrals. We conducted direct observations and interviews with disease intervention specialists (DIS) in Jackson to assess barriers and facilitators to implementing these activities. We completed time and motion studies with 8 DIS and case tracking forms for 90 unique cases to estimate the incremental staff time and associated personnel cost of added services compared with a standard PS case., Results: Disease intervention specialists were optimistic about integrating HIV-related activities but noted disparate data systems, nonsystematic documentation, and lack of training as barriers. The mean time for a standard STD PS case without HIV-related activities was 195 minutes (cost, $77.69/case). The cost to conduct PS for HIV-negative men who have sex with men with gonorrhea/chlamydia was 36% higher than a standard case. Integrating relinkage to care and PrEP referrals resulted in a 44% and 20% increase in cost, respectively., Conclusions: Integrating HIV care relinkage and PrEP referrals into STD partner services was generally acceptable by DIS and added marginal cost per case. Background: Research among street-based female sex workers (FSWs) has documented many harms caused by police. One harm that has received little attention is that of police as clients. We examined this interaction in a 12-month longitudinal cohort study of street-based FSWs in Baltimore, MD., Methods: We explored longitudinal bivariate and multivariate associations between having police clients and independent variables that focused on sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as demographic, structural, substance use, police interaction, and violence-related factors., Results: Mean participant age was 35.8 years, 65.9% were White, and more than half (53.3%) had less than a high school education. Most (70.3%) used heroin daily, and 24.8% reported having police as clients over the study period. In a multivariate model, factors independently associated with recent police clients were recent arrest (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 1.76; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.03-2.99; P = 0.037), coerced or forced sex by police (aOR, 4.47; 95% CI, 1.79-11.12; P = 0.001), higher number of egregious police practices experienced (aOR, 1.77; 95% CI, 1.38-2.29; P < 0.001), and prevalent STI infection (aOR, 2.43; 95% CI, 1.46-4.04; P = 0.001)., Conclusions: The study uniquely documents both the frequency with which street-based FSWs take police as clients and the role of egregious police practices and prevalent STIs in association with police as clients. Results indicate the police-as-client association as a form of "everyday violence," which both normalizes and legitimizes police power and structural violence. Alongside the urgent need for decriminalization of sex work and STI prevention programs tailored for this complex population, prompt investigation and harsher penalties for police officers who engage in sex with FSW could help shift police culture away from abuse.

Aims: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other people (LGBT+) individuals may have a greater risk of experiencing mental and physical health issues. In the past years, the predominant theme of research was HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This study aimed to explore the most recent patterns in medical research concerning LGBT+ persons., Methods: A bibliometric analysis using Biblioshiny was conducted. Based on previous studies, years of observation ranged between 2008 and 2021. Web of Science Core Collection was used., Results: A total of 31,039 articles were selected. Top journals centered around HIV/AIDS and STIs ( n  = 6), followed by sexual behaviors/sexuality ( n  = 2) and LGBT+ health ( n  = 2). The US led in research output ( n  = 16,249). Papers were categorized into three main clusters (which showed different evolution across time): one addressing HIV/AIDS, STIs, and sexual behaviors, another focusing on mental health, discrimination, and stigma, and a third, smaller cluster examining transgender, intersex, and gender-diverse health., Conclusions: This article highlighted a growth in LGBT+ health research, uncovering research disparities among countries. While HIV/AIDS and STIs still dominated, a crucial theme concerning mental health, discrimination, and stigma has been rising. Introduction: Many sexual health services are overwhelmed and cannot cater for all the individuals who present with sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Digital health software that separates STIs from non-STIs could improve the efficiency of clinical services. We developed and evaluated a machine learning model that predicts whether patients have an STI based on their clinical features., Methods: We manually extracted 25 demographic features and clinical features from 1315 clinical records in the electronic health record system at Melbourne Sexual Health Center. We examined 16 machine learning models to predict a binary outcome of an STI or a non-STI diagnosis. We evaluated the models' performance with the area under the ROC curve (AUC), accuracy and F1-scores., Results: Our study included 1315 consultations, of which 36.8% (484/1315) were diagnosed with STIs and 63.2% (831/1315) had non-STI conditions. The study population predominantly consisted of heterosexual men (49.5%, 651/1315), followed by gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) (25.7%), women (21.6%) and unknown gender (3.2%). The median age was 31 years (intra-quartile range (IQR) 26-39). The top 5 performing models were CatBoost (AUC 0.912), Random Forest (AUC 0.917), LightGBM (AUC 0.907), Gradient Boosting (AUC 0.905) and XGBoost (AUC 0.900). The best model, CatBoost, achieved an accuracy of 0.837, sensitivity of 0.776, specificity of 0.831, precision of 0.782 and F1-score of 0.778. The key important features were lesion duration, type of skin lesions, age, gender, history of skin disorders, number of lesions, dysuria duration, anorectal pain and itchiness., Conclusions: Our best model demonstrates a reasonable performance in distinguishing STIs from non-STIs. This paper presents a solution that prioritises high privacy protection and improves communication throughput for predicting the risk of sexually transmissible infections/human immunodeficiency virus (STIs/HIV). The approach utilised Federated Learning (FL) to construct a model from multiple clinics and key stakeholders. FL ensured that only models were shared between clinics, minimising the risk of personal information leakage. Additionally, an algorithm was explored on the FL manager side to construct a global model that aligns with the communication status of the system. Our proposed method introduced Random Forest Federated Learning for assessing the risk of STIs/HIV, incorporating a flexible aggregation process that can be adjusted to accommodate the capacious communication system. Experimental results demonstrated the significant potential of a solution for estimating STIs/HIV risk. In comparison with recent studies, our approach yielded superior results in terms of AUC (0.97) and accuracy ( 93 % ). Despite these promising findings, a limitation of the study lies in the experiment for man's data, due to the self-reported nature of the data and sensitive content. which may be subject to participant bias. Objective: Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), as their name suggests, are infections caused by more than thirty different bacteria, viruses, and parasites and are transmitted through sexual contact, including vaginal, anal, or oral intercourse, although some sexually transmitted infections can also transmitted from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth and lactation. According to World Health Organization, one of the main populations at risk for acquiring these diseases are sex workers and their clients. Due to the high prevalence, the characteristics and behaviors that favor the development of these diseases are analyzed. The main objective of this paper was to analyze the risk factors in the acquisition of sexually transmitted diseases in the population of sex workers., Methods: A literature search was conducted in Scopus, Pubmed, CINAHL, Medline, LILACS and IBECS, of observational, longitudinal and mixed methods studies conducted in sex workers and published between January 2011 and March 2021, with a final sample of fourty-three articles. The mixed methods assessment tool (MMAT) was used to assess the methodological quality of the papers., Results: After analyzing the literature, eleven groups of risk factors related to the acquisition of sexually transmitted diseases were obtained, these being economic factors, factors related to sexual practices, drug use, sex work, education, health problems, country of origin and mobility, partner, age, violence and other factors not belonging to the previous categories., Conclusions: Sex workers have numerous characteristics and behaviors that make them vulnerable to sexually transmitted infections. Of note are years of prostitution, drug use, number of partners and condom use, which are key factors for future prevention and intervention strategies, as well as research.

Chemsex is the intentional use of substances in sexualized settings among men who have sex with men. An increasing public health issue, chemsex has estimated prevalence rates of 3% to 29% in men who have sex with men. Known risks of chemsex include higher exposure to HIV and other STIs, addiction, and cardiovascular problems. Recent research has also shown that chemsexers are prone to depression, anxiety, psychotic experiences, and cognitive impairment. Our commentary highlights the discrepancy between the public health burden associated with risky chemsex practices and the research gap in this domain. We warn against the simplistic application to chemsex of existing theoretical concepts or therapeutic strategies that work for addictions and at-risk sexual behaviours. South Africa has a high incidence of human immunodeficiency virus and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), particularly among adolescent girls and young women. National and global guidelines recommend varied strategies for integrating STI and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) services., Purpose: This paper describes the implementation of a syndromic compared to an etiological approach to STI integration within PrEP services in South Africa., Methods: We analysed program data from eight fixed and four mobile clinics to describe a cascade of STI care and integration of syndromic management among clients accessing PrEP services. Diagnostic testing was conducted in a subset of clients to determine the prevalence of STIs and estimate the burden of disease missed using a syndromic approach., Results: Between December 2018 and December 2021, 22,505 clients sought services and a high proportion (92.9%) was screened for STI symptoms. Of these, 9% of females and 3% of males had symptoms and 89.5% had recorded treatment. In a subset of PrEP clients (406 females, 70 males) screened through laboratory testing, chlamydia was identified in 25.7% of female and 20.0% of male samples, gonorrhea in 14.1% of female and 18.6% of male samples, and syphilis in 2.3% of female and 1.4% of male samples. Highest prevalence was found among females aged 18-20 years., Discussion: Syndromic STI screening and management can be integrated into routine PrEP service delivery and can identify symptomatic STIs, but misses asymptomatic infections. Background: Chemsex is a heterogeneous phenomenon with differences in distribution, setting, motivations and type of substances consumed between countries. The lack of data at national level of the Italian situation creates a perception of reduced need for intervention., Methods: Anonymous paper questionnaires were distributed to patients who had registered themselves at the STI Department IRCCS Ca' Granda Policlinico in Milan., Results: A significant association was demonstrated between use of sexualised drugs, chemsex and the following variables: (1). Number of partners: in the group of clients with more than five partners, sexualised drug users were more than twice compared with those in the group with less than five partners (35.2% vs 16.2%) p <0.0001. (2). Use of dating apps: more than one out of two persons who used drugs during sex affirmed looking for partners on internet, p = 0.0059. (3). Low condom uses with occasional partners: percentage of individuals who declared not to use condoms or devices during their sexual encounters with occasional partners is more than twice as high in the sexualised drug users group with respect to controls (44.6% vs 21.4%); p = 0.0006). Improvements in context-specific programming are essential to address HIV and other sexually transmitted and blood-borne infection epidemics globally. A programme science approach emphasises the need for context-specific evidence and knowledge, generated on an ongoing basis, to inform timely and appropriate programmatic decisions. We aim to accelerate and improve the use of embedded research, inquiry, and learning to optimise population-level impact of public health programmes and to introduce an effective programme coverage framework as one tool to facilitate this goal. The framework was developed in partnership with public health experts in HIV and sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections through several workshops and meetings. The framework is a practice-based tool that centres on the use of data from iterative cycles of programme-embedded research and learning, as well as routine programme monitoring, to refine the strategy and implementation of a programme. This programme science approach aims to reduce programme coverage gaps, to optimise impact at the population level, and to achieve effective coverage. Primary healthcare facilities lack routine diagnostic screening due to resource limitations and dependence on syndromic management, resulting in an unprecedented prevalence and incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), particularly among key and priority populations. Specific focuses are essential to strengthen current STI control measures. Therefore, this article describes the protocol for evaluating STI programme among key and priority populations in selected primary healthcare facilities in South Africa. We will employ an exploratory, descriptive research design to assess the STI programme in terms of its facility operations, functions, scope, gaps, delivery services, STI surveillance methods, and indicators in the selected primary healthcare facilities. A purposive sample of 15–20 STI programme stakeholders will be selected from five primary healthcare facilities in Limpopo Province, South Africa. The programme evaluation will use the World Health Organization assessment checklist tool, a globally recognised and validated instrument comprising open- and closed-ended questions to assess the STI programme. This tool, known for its credibility and reliability, ensures the study's validity. Quantitative data will be captured on STATA software (College Station, TX, USA) version 18 for descriptive analysis and presented as the mean and standard deviation for continuous variables, proportions and percentages for categorical variables. A p ≤ 0.05 will demonstrate a statistically significant level. Thematic content analysis will be conducted for the qualitative data using Atlas. ti software (Technical University, Berlin, Germany) version 23.1. Background: Black girls are disproportionately impacted by HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), underscoring the urgent need for innovative strategies to enhance the adoption and maintenance of HIV/STI prevention efforts. Historically, Black male caregivers have been left out of girls' programming, and little guidance exists to inform intervention development for Black girls and their male caregivers. Engaging Black male caregivers in Black girls' sexual and reproductive health may reduce sexual risk-taking and improve the sustainability of preventative behaviors., Objective: This paper describes the formative phases, processes, and methods used to adapt an evidence-based mother-daughter sexual and reproductive health intervention for Black girls 9-18 years old and their male caregivers., Methods: We used the ADAPT-ITT model to tailor IMARA for Black girls and their male caregivers. Diverse qualitative methods (interviews, focus groups, and theater testing) were used throughout the adaption process., Results: Findings support using the ADAPT-ITT model to tailor an evidence-based HIV/STI intervention for Black girls and their Black male caregivers. Findings highlight the importance of community engagement and the use of qualitative methods to demonstrate the acceptability and feasibility of the adapted intervention. Objective: To estimate the percentage of men in the U.S. in need of preconception care and to assess gaps in utilization of services by race/ethnicity and nativity, irrespective of intention for children, via cross-sectional analysis of 2017-2019 National Survey for Family Growth (NSFG)., Methods: The need for preconception care was defined as non-sterile men who had sexual experience and were with female partner(s) who were not sterile. Thirteen preconception care services were assessed across six domains: family planning, blood pressure, HIV, STD, weight management, and smoking cessation. Multivariable weighted analyses were performed to obtain odds ratios to assess differences in preconception care utilization among participants., Results: Approximately 64% of men were estimated to need preconception care. Substantial disparities in need and service use were found across sociodemographic characteristics. Foreign-born men had significantly higher odds of not receiving three of the thirteen preconception care services, including condom use screening (aOR = 1.67; CI = 1.23-2.26), HIV advice (aOR = 1.76; CI = 1.35-2.29), and STD testing (aOR = 1.66; CI = 1.13-2.44), than U.S.-born. Hispanic men had higher odds of not receiving blood pressure (aOR = 1.39; CI = 1.09-1.79) and smoking screenings (aOR = 1.33; CI = 1.02-1.73) than White men. Black men had the highest use in six of the thirteen preconception care services., Conclusion: Gaps in preconception care utilization suggest a need to further explore potential drivers of disparities, specifically for Hispanic and foreign-born men. Objectives: As the primary public health strategy for controlling the 2022 Mpox outbreak, it is critical to evaluate the impact of Mpox vaccination campaigns for transgender people and gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (T/GBM). We measured vaccine uptake and associated factors among T/GBM clients of an urban STI clinic in British Columbia (BC)., Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey between August 8-22, 2022 of clients who had attended the STI clinic, 5-7 weeks following the first-dose Mpox vaccination campaign in BC. We drew on a systematic review of factors associated with vaccine uptake to develop survey questions, and measured vaccine uptake among vaccine-eligible T/GBM., Results: Overall, 51% of T/GBM had received the first dose of the vaccine. The sample (331 participants) was majority White and university educated, identified as a man and gay, 10% had trans experience, and 68% met eligibility criteria for vaccination. Among vaccine-eligible participants identifying as T/GBM, 66% had been vaccinated; being unvaccinated was more common among participants identifying as bisexual or heteroflexible/mostly straight, and who spent less time with other T/GBM. Eligible yet unvaccinated participants had lower perceived susceptibility, and reported fewer cues to action (e.g., fewer saw information promoting the vaccine), and increased constraints to vaccine access; vaccine barriers related to accessing clinics and privacy were common. The majority (85%) of those eligible and unvaccinated at time of survey were willing to receive the vaccine., Conclusion: In this sample of STI clinic clients, vaccine uptake among eligible T/GBM was high in the initial weeks following a Mpox vaccination campaign. However, uptake was patterned on social gradients with lower uptake among T/GBM who may be less effectively engaged by available promotion channels. This paper analyzed the genesis of the PrEP1519 study and feasibility conditions for its construction. A qualitative-approach study was conducted using the Bourdieusian sociology framework to reconstruct the dynamics of the social environment where PrEP1519 emerged during 2015-2018. A document analysis and ten in-depth interviews were carried out to analyze the trajectory of the project. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) was introduced in Brazil as a public policy in 2017. The lack of scientific evidence available among the adolescent population led to the development of a demonstrative cohort study, associated with an intervention, aimed at combining the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections at three sites in Brazil. PrEP1519 sought to generate evidence for global use and to help the Brazilian Ministry of Health apply PrEP among adolescents. The articulation of bureaucratic, scientific, and activist stakeholders enabled this study. The feasibility conditions for developing PrEP1519 included a favorable relationship of national organizations with international organizations, the favorable approach that public administrators had at the time towards new technologies and prevention strategies, the researchers' previous experience in studies with the target population or with PrEP, articulation efforts with social movements, civil society organizations, and other public agencies, and the integration between scientific institutions, which allowed using international resources and developing a response to the problem. Completing this study at a moment when conservatism advances in Brazil demands that the scientific community and activists closely monitor and take stances on PrEP to ensure its availability for adolescents as a public policy.

Sexual and gender minority individuals who attend collective sex venues (CSVs; establishments where people can have sex in groups or the presence of others) are at elevated risk for HIV and STIs. On-site sexual health interventions have been attempted at CSVs, but attendees' interest in receiving such services is under-investigated. This paper presents results from a 2020 online cross-sectional survey completed by 342 sexual and gender minority individuals who attended CSVs in New York City. Interest in services such as on-site testing for STIs, testing vans near CSVs, and informational referrals was overall high, particularly among younger participants. Among participants who reported being HIV negative, those of younger age and those who were not using PrEP reported being more likely to take an HIV test if it would be offered at CSVs. In open-text survey responses, participants expressed interest in CSVs providing free prevention services such as HIV/STI testing, PEP, PrEP, and STI medications or vaccination, as well as in ways to improve norms surrounding condom use and consent at these venues. Some participants expressed barriers to on-site services such as privacy concerns, preexisting access to health services, an emphasis on personal responsibility, and negative reactions to the presence of service providers. However, some participants also felt that these services could be delivered in a positive, acceptable, and non-judgmental way, especially by involving CSV organizers and attendees in their implementation. Introduction: In 2019, there were 2.5 million reported cases of chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in the USA, young people aged 15-24 made up 61% and 42% of chlamydia and gonorrhoea cases, respectively. Moreover, the highest rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) were reported among college-aged students. In this paper, we outline our protocol to systematically review the published literature on, the use of STI/HIV self-test kits, increasing STI/HIV testing uptake, and stigma, access and confidentiality issues, among young adult college students in the USA., Methods and Analysis: This scoping review will be conducted and reported according to the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews. We will search electronic databases, OVID Medline, OVID Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, PubMed and CINAHL, for articles published in English from inception to the present. We will search other alternative sources such as ProQuest, Google Scholar and Google to identify grey literature. A two-step process will be used to identify eligible studies based on the defined inclusion criteria. First, the title and abstract of identified articles will be screened for possible inclusion. Second, full-text articles of relevant studies will be retrieved and screened for inclusion. Both screening steps will be done by two people independently. Finally, data will be extracted by two researchers working independently. Objective: To identify missed opportunities for healthcare providers to discuss HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) with people who inject drugs (PWID)., Methods: Participants were 395 HIV-negative PWID recruited for the 2018 National HIV Behavioral Surveillance survey in San Francisco, California via respondent-driven sampling. Adjusted logistic regression tested whether discussing PrEP with a provider in the last year was associated with sociodemographic characteristics, structural factors, and accessing HIV/STI and substance use treatment services., Results: Most PWID (86.3%) reported seeing a healthcare provider, but only 15.0% of these reported discussing PrEP with a healthcare provider. PWID who were sexual minority men had greater odds of having a discussion about PrEP with a healthcare provider than PWID who were heterosexual men (aOR=3.42, 95% CI=1.21-9.73) or heterosexual women (aOR=3.69, 95% CI=1.08-12.62). Additionally, factors associated with discussing PrEP included: being tested for HIV (aOR=4.29, 95% CI=1.21-15.29), having a healthcare provider recommend HIV testing (aOR=2.95, 95% CI=1.23-7.06), and receiving free condoms from a prevention program (aOR=5.45, 95% CI=1.78-16.65)., Conclusions: In the face of low PrEP uptake, continuing HIV transmission, and many missed opportunities to discussed PrEP (e.g., PWID who are women, substance use treatment services), these findings from San Francisco indicate that healthcare providers and public health efforts need to systematically offer PrEP to PWID. Background: Female circumcision remains a dominant practice among the Pokot of North-Eastern Uganda. This paper explores the lived experiences of uncircumcised Pokot women, as they continue to live in a community, where the practice is cherished., Methods: This qualitative study adopted an ethnographic research design. The study was based on thirty [30] serial interviews with 15 uncircumcised women in the Pokot local language between August and October 2021. Five [5] Key Informant Interviews were also conducted with key informants from Amudat District. A Focus Group Discussion with women, irrespective of their circumcision status, was organized as an entry point to identify the initial uncircumcised woman. Uncircumcised women were recruited using respondent-driven sampling while key informants were purposively selected. Data were analyzed thematically. Participants were allocated codes to ensure anonymity., Results: Participants expressed understanding of female circumcision, and the procedure although they were not circumcised. Denial of participation in community and cultural functions, rejection by elders and relatives, difficulties in getting marriage partners, denial of conjugal rights and basic needs, refusal to give names to their children, and home desertion were the negative experiences reported by uncircumcised women. Sexual enjoyment during sexual intercourse, epitomized by the ease of reaching orgasms, fewer complications while giving birth as well as reduced risk of exposure to sexually transmitted diseases were mentioned by participants as their positive experiences., Conclusion: Uncircumcised Pokot women continue to experience unbearable challenges since female circumcision is perceived as the only rite of passage to womanhood. Introduction: One of the most relevant aspects of sexual health promotion is the need to carry out health education by promoting a healthy affective-sexual education, with the capacity and resources to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unwanted pregnancies. The aim of this study was to collect the evolution of epidemiological surveillance indicators of the main STIs, stratified by autonomous community after the publication of the Sexual and Reproductive Health Strategy in Spain in 2011 and until 2019., Methods: A retrospective observational study of the Spanish population with STIs from 2011-2019. Background: Both the global incidence and the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) continue to increase, affecting hundreds of millions of individuals, particularly in low-to middle-income countries. Although a definitive diagnosis is desirable to inform STI treatment, syndromic management is the most widely used strategy in resource-limited settings. With the development of point-of-care (POC) tests, it is important to discuss how laboratories will need to adapt to new training and supervisory roles in support of testing, which will largely be performed by peripheral clinical staff., Objectives: To discuss potential applications of STI POC tests, how they could improve existing STI control strategies and the role of clinical and reference laboratories in support of initiatives to improve STI management and control activities., Sources: Narrative literature review and expert opinion., Content: The paper outlines the current status of the STI epidemic worldwide and discusses the problems associated with current approaches to control these infections, particularly in low-resource settings. Background: Self-care is the ability of individuals, families, and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and manage illness and disability with or without a health care provider. In resource-constrained settings with disrupted sexual and reproductive health (SRH) service coverage and access, SRH self-care could play a critical role. Despite SRH conditions being among the leading causes of mortality and morbidity among women of reproductive age in humanitarian and fragile settings, there are currently no reviews of self-care interventions in these contexts to guide policy and practice., Methods: We undertook a scoping review to identify the design, implementation, and outcomes of self-care interventions for SRH in humanitarian and fragile settings. We defined settings of interest as locations with appeals for international humanitarian assistance or identified as fragile and conflict-affected situations by the World Bank. SRH self-care interventions were described according to those aligned with the Minimum Initial Services Package for Reproductive Health in Crises. We searched six databases for records using keywords guided by the PRISMA statement. The findings of each included paper were analysed using an a priori framework to identify information concerning effectiveness, acceptability and feasibility of the self-care intervention, places where self-care interventions were accessed and factors relating to the environment that enabled the delivery and uptake of the interventions., Results: We identified 25 publications on SRH self-care implemented in humanitarian and fragile settings including ten publications on maternal and newborn health, nine on HIV/STI interventions, two on contraception, two on safe abortion care, one on gender-based violence, and one on health service provider perspectives on multiple interventions. Overall, the findings show that well-supported self-care interventions have the potential to increase access to quality SRH for crisis-affected communities. However, descriptions of interventions, study settings, and factors impacting implementation offer limited insight into how practical considerations for SRH self-care interventions differ in stable, fragile, and crisis-affected settings., Conclusion: It is time to invest in self-care implementation research in humanitarian settings to inform policies and practices that are adapted to the needs of crisis-affected communities and tailored to the specific health system challenges encountered in such contexts., (© 2022. The aim of this paper is to introduce the digitalization process and its effects on better reach of the target population. Progress in the digitalization and e-health tools worldwide enables new opportunities in prevention, diagnostics and treatment for people living with HIV (PLHIV) and people in the risk of HIV infection, hepatitis C (HCV) and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The system already used for voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) at the CheckPoint Centre Zagreb run by the non-governmental organization (NGO) Croatian Association for HIV and Viral Hepatitis (CAHIV) was upgraded and adapted (due to the COVID-19 prevention epidemiological measures) and developed for implementation of the pilot project of feasibility and acceptability of home HIV self-testing (HIVST) among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Zagreb. A special feature of the HIVST mobile application enables an innovative approach in collecting clients' test result feedback. This paper presents the method of use digitalization of the VCT and HIVST activities to support and increase availability of screening testing. Described procedures of new technologies application in VCT services and preliminary results of the HIVST pilot project indicate that technology-delivered interventions can contribute and improve access and utilisation of HIV/STI prevention and care services.

Background: As a young subgroup, college students have become the main users of mobile social networks. Considering that people can indiscriminately access explicit sexual content on the internet, coupled with the increase of HIV infections in male college students, the role of the internet in meeting sexual partners and its correlation to risky sexual behavior has become an important topic., Objective: The aim of this study is to explore the effects of internet exposure on sexual partners and sexual risk behavior among sexually experienced male college students., Methods: An institution-based cross-sectional study design was used to collect data through a paper-based questionnaire administered to male college students recruited from colleges and gay organizations in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. A total of 1045 sexually experienced male students were incorporated in our analysis, with the following information collected: sociodemographic characteristics, sexual intercourse-related behaviors, and sexually transmitted disease (STD) knowledge. Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to examine differences regarding basic characteristics and sexual risk behaviors between male college students who meet sexual partners via the internet and those who do not. Sequential logistic regression models were employed to examine the influence of meeting sexual partners via the internet on risky sexual behaviors after controlling for other factors., Results: The mean age of the sexually experienced male students was 21.6 (SD 2.0) years. The likelihood of risky sexual behavior was varied, yet it was the highest for those who aim to meet paid sexual partners (145/192, 75.5% to 19/22, 86.4%), followed by those seeking partners for love or romance (258/435, 59.3%). Compared to non-internet partner seekers, internet partner seekers tended to have more casual intercourse (292/542, 53.9% versus 51/503, 10.1%), paid intercourse (32/542, 5.9% versus 12/503, 2.4%), and intercourse with same-sex partners (349/542, 64.4% versus 41/503, 8.2%); they were also more likely to use psychoactive drugs (125/349, 35.8% versus 5/41, 12.2%) and have more than 2 partners. With the increase of HIV and STD knowledge, the probability of having unprotected intercourse decreased for non-internet partner seekers. However, it increased for internet partner seekers with a rising HIV knowledge score. Sequential logistic regression showed that meeting sexual partners on the internet was statistically associated with sexual risk behaviors with multiple sexual partners (odds ratio 4.434; P<.001)., Conclusions: Meeting sexual partners via the internet is a common behavior among sexually experienced male college students, and those who meet partners on the internet exhibited higher levels of risky sexual behaviors although they had sufficient HIV and STD knowledge; this is especially true for students who aimed to find partners for sexual intercourse. Background: Patients who experience sexual assault are at risk of adverse health outcomes including sexually transmitted infections (STI) and often present to various healthcare centers for post-assault care. Unfortunately, there are no standard guidelines on testing for STI among this patient population. Having an understanding of prevalence rates is essential and will help guide protocols, care guidelines and STI testing. In efforts to have a better understanding a review was conducted of published studies examining prevalence rates of STI among sexually assaulted patients., Methods: This paper is a review of published studies over the last 10 years that have examined prevalence of STIs including HIV among adult patients who have presented to care after a sexual assault., Results: A total of 12 studies that were included in this review. Studies used were, observational, retrospective descriptive, cross sectional and longitudinal studies. Years of data collection of the studies from 2001-2019., Conclusions: This review notes a wide range of rates of STI among victims of sexual assault and wide variation in the types of STI that were tested and the percentage of patients tested at the different healthcare settings with some testing 100% of victims and other testing 22% of victims. Adolescents' health behaviors and experiences contribute to many outcomes, including risks for HIV, other sexually transmitted diseases, and unintended pregnancy. Public health interventions and approaches addressing risk behaviors or experiences in adolescence have the potential for wide-reaching impacts on sexual health and other related outcomes across the lifespan, and schools are a critical venue for such interventions. This paper describes a school-based program model developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Division of Adolescent and School Health for preventing HIV/sexually transmitted diseases, unintended pregnancy, and related health risk behaviors and experiences among middle and high school students. This includes a summary of the theoretical and evidence base that inform the model, and a description of the model's activities, organized into three key strategies (sexual health education, sexual health services, and safe and supportive environments) and across three cross-cutting domains (strengthening staff capacity, increasing student access to programs and services, and engaging parent and community partners). The paper also outlines implications for adolescent health professionals and organizations working across schools, clinics, and communities, to address and promote adolescent sexual health and well-being., (Published by Elsevier Inc.)

Introduction: key populations and transgender people in particular are at a high risk of HIV infection. However, very little is known about risk behaviors of transgender people in Botswana. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of high-risk behaviors for HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among transgender people in Botswana., Methods: data from the Botswana 2017 Biological and Behavioral Surveillance Survey of HIV/STIs among select key populations (BBSS-2) was used. The cross sectional survey documented behavioral risk factors for these infections. This paper only focused on the analysis of the transgender data. Descriptive analysis was done with IBM Statistical Software for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24., Results: there were 56 transgender people identified of which 12 (21.4%) were transgender women. The median age was 24 (interquartile range (IQR) 22-28). Among transgender women, 2 (16.7%) reported concurrent sexual partners and 9 (75%) reported condom use at last intercourse. However, only 7 (58.3%) reported consistent lubricant use. About 45% of the respondents did not know the HIV status of their last male partner. Only one of the transgender women reported intercourse with at least 1 female in the last month. About a third reported that they had STI symptoms in the past year. Alcohol use was reported in 50% of respondents while 83% had disclosed gender identity and had been accepted by their families. However, 25% reported discrimination by a healthcare worker., Conclusion: the high-risk behaviors were frequent among transgender women. This paper explores the way in which some lesbians rely on culturally circulated narratives about identity to assess safer sex and their potential risk of sexually transmitted infection (STI) and HIV. A well-established narrative within the literature about lesbian safer sex is that STI risk is non-existent. The implications of this are important because they demonstrate the perception of lesbian identity and notions of safety. This study focuses on how gender and sexuality contextualise an assessment of risk and safety for lesbians. This is vital to understand because there is still a lack of language about lesbian safer sex practices and techniques. Lesbians narrate their assessments of STI and HIV risk through the lenses of gender and sexuality - locating 'risk' in gay men and bisexual women. Using narrative analysis, I find that lesbians assess their risk by constructing characters from culturally circulated narratives steeped in homophobia and biphobia of the sensible lesbian, the risky gay man and the uncertain bisexual.

Background: Establishing typologies of drug use among gay and bisexual men who have sex with men (GBMSM) who are living with HIV, as well as differences in health outcomes between them, is important in addressing health inequalities within this population. We sought to determine how use of non-prescription drugs is clustered for these individuals and to establish differences in their broader health and well-being, including STI diagnosis, mental health, and physical health., Method: We examined past-year drug use reported by 747 GBMSM in Australia as part of the HIV Futures 8 survey, a large cross-sectional survey of people living with HIV. We tested between two and five latent class models of specific drug use and conducted cross-class comparisons of past-year STI diagnosis and self-reported mental and physical health., Results: We identified four distinct drug use typologies: 'chemsex-related use', 'minimal use', 'analgesic and sedative use', and 'diverse use'. The 'chemsex use' and 'diverse use' classes had a markedly higher likelihood of STI diagnosis relative to the other two classes, while the 'analgesic and sedative use' class reported markedly poorer physical and mental health scores than the other classes., Conclusions: While GBMSM living with HIV in Australia have higher rates of drug use compared to other GBMSM, and the general population, our analysis indicates that patterns of drug use are not uniform within this group. Men who have sex with men (MSM) in Ghana remain at heightened risk of HIV infection, and face challenges in accessing HIV prevention and care services. Previous research in Ghana shows that MSM face intersectional stigma across ecological levels (family, peers, healthcare settings, and community level) and the criminalization of same-gender sexual behaviors in the country. To protect their wellbeing from exposure to stigma, many MSM avoid interactions with healthcare systems and services, which inadvertently inhibits their opportunities for early detection and treatment of HIV. Consequently, MSM in Ghana carry a disproportionate burden of HIV prevalence (18%) compared to the general population (2%), highlighting the need for culturally relevant processes in HIV/STI prevention, and care communication to optimize sexual health and wellness among MSM in Ghana. To this effect, we collaborated with community partners to use the Assessment, Decision, Adaptation, Production, Topical Experts, Training, Testing (ADAPT-ITT) model to modify a theory-driven smartphone-based peer support intervention to enhance its focus on intersectional stigma reduction, and improve HIV health-seeking behaviors among MSM, including HIV testing and linkage to care. We used the Dennis Peer Support Model to develop the peer support components (emotional, informational, and appraisal support) to increase peer social support, decrease social isolation, and minimize intersectional stigma effects on HIV-related healthcare-seeking behaviors. This paper shows the preliminary acceptability and effectiveness of employing culturally relevant techniques and communication strategies to provide secure peer support to improve HIV prevention and care among key populations in highly stigmatized environments.

Background: Brief interventions have proven to be valuable instruments for the treatment and care of clients with diverse health needs, due to their potential to impact both the individual and the population. In this regard, the Brief Sexuality-Related Communication (BSC) is presented as a viable and effective alternative for addressing sexual and reproductive health problems, assessing risk behaviors and motivating clients to generate behavioral change. Since health providers are key actors in treatment and prevention, it is essential to know their perceptions about the BSC intervention, as well as its acceptability in different contexts, with diverse client populations. Thus, the following paper reflects the findings of the perceptions and experiences of health providers in Peru from the first phase of the Feasibility study of a BSC intervention to prevent STIs and unintended pregnancies., Methods: This is the first phase of a multisite and multiphase study of the feasibility of a BSC intervention. We conducted twenty in-depth interviews (IDI) with health care providers (physicians, obstetricians, psychologists, nurses and peer counselors) recruited from three health care institutions in Peru: The Tahuantinsuyo Bajo Maternal and Child Center (CMI) and the San José Maternal and Child Center, both located in the capital city, Lima; and La Caleta Hospital located in Chimbote, northern coast of Peru. Participating health providers included those working at the HIV/STI Reference service and the family planning/reproductive health service. The IDI addressed three domains: 1) Acceptability of the BSC intervention; 2) Perceived willingness to implement the BSC intervention; and 3) Considerations for the Implementation of the BSC intervention., Results: Health providers expressed high acceptance of the BSC intervention, considering it as a useful and effective instrument to address sexual and reproductive health problems with all clients; however, some providers had some concerns about the real impact of the intervention to achieve significant behavior change. On the other hand, health providers showed high willingness to learn and implement the BSC intervention, affirming their commitment to learn new techniques and strategies that could allow them to improve their knowledge and the quality of their care. Health care providers consider it necessary to take into account the barriers that arise in the implementation of the BSC intervention, such as the structural limitations to access, the providers' abilities to deliver the intervention effectively, and the participants' reception of the intervention. Finally, providers consider it essential to establish the BSC intervention in a normative framework that allows it to receive the support of the health departments and eventually enforces implementation., Conclusions: Health providers consider the BSC intervention as an interesting and exciting behavioral intervention to deal with the sexual and reproductive health issues existing in different populations, and seemed highly willing to adapt and implement it, hoping that it become beneficial to all client populations to prevent HIV/STIs and unintended pregnancies., (© 2021. Until 2020, there was no representative sex survey for Germany with published data. The GeSiD study "Health and Sexuality in Germany" is the first nationwide, representative sex survey. The aim of this paper is to provide a brief introduction to the German health and sexuality (GeSiD) survey.A total of 4955 persons (2336 men, 2619 women) aged 18-75 years were interviewed between 2018 and 2019. The computer-assisted face-to-face interviews had an extensive self-completion section and asked about a wide range of sexual behaviour and sexual health topics. Data on sexual identity, relationships, sexual behaviour, and sexual health were assessed. Data show, among other things, that only a minority of respondents had ever talked to a healthcare provider about HIV/AIDS or other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).Data show a clear need for education, information dissemination, and training in the area of sexual health., (© 2021.
