As the EU strives to achieve its climate goals, it is becoming increasingly crucial to understand the complex relationships between economic activity, energy consumption, and carbon emissions. In this context, our paper aims to investigate the correlation between carbon emissions, energy consumption, and economic development. To fulfill our aim, we have used Eurostat and OECD data for the EU-27 member states for a period of 13 years (2010–2022), using a linear regression as the main analysis method. Our results have shown that there is a strong correlation between demand-based and production-based CO2 emissions as well as between production-based CO2 emissions and final energy consumption, while at the same time, our findings have shown that there is no direct correlation between energy consumption and economic development, aligning our study with the neutrality hypothesis of the energy growth nexus. This paper expands the ongoing discussion on sustainable development and climate change mitigation by conducting a thorough analysis of the EU-27 countries over a span of thirteen years. The results emphasize the need for integrated strategies that address both production and consumption emissions, emphasize the vital role of energy efficiency, and raise questions about the effectiveness of increasing energy consumption to enhance economic productivity or CO2 efficiency. Sustainability, an increasingly addressed business principle, has begun to take place in modern business systems and become a focus for ways of assessing corporate performance in all three dimensions of the environmental, social, and economic spheres. Thus, the accounting profession and accountants have a key role in the core of active business for the achievement of sustainable development objectives. This aim at enabling financial and non-financial activities to be carried out in an honest way towards society the environment and according to universally valid principles that want to improve the quality of life and business. The literature frequently highlights the need to expand the evolution of sustainable development through various spheres of action. This paper intends to outline the current context on the contribution made by accounting professionals towards sustainable development and their efforts towards this direction. Using a qualitative research methodology, the initiatives organized by accounting regulatory bodies and representatives of the accounting profession will be analyzed. The tourism industry is a leading sector interested in the 2030 Agenda and represents one of its primary constituencies. It is increasingly acknowledged as the driving economic force in several nations, there has arisen the need for a sustainable paradigm for this industry, being included in two of the 17 goals for sustainable development- 8.9 and 12.7b with the most relevance to the tourist industry. In this light, this study aims to investigate the research area of the most significant consequences of tourism in connection to the objectives of sustainable development by mapping the relevant literature based on an analysis of its content. To accomplish the goal of the study, 245 papers from the Google Academics database spanning the years 2015-2021 have been taken out. The empirical findings revealed that the body of the scientific articles contains the terms "tourist," "sustainable development," "environment," "SGDs," "culture," "local," "industry," and "community" most often. The empirical data stress the following word combinations as being the most encountered when looking at the most correlated words within the scientific content of the papers. These word combinations are as follows: sustainable-development-tourism, economic-goals, tourismsupport- impact-future, local-resources-management, sustainable-community, or study-related-sustainabilityenvironmental are some topics that might be discussed. In addition, the findings of the topic modeling showed the presence of four primary categories of subjects that are covered by this region, as follows: The first topic, "Topic 1," investigates the connection between tourism and the environment. In contrast, the second topic, "Topic 2," examines the implications of tourism regarding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The main principle of sustainability means being able to meet the needs of today's society without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable development implies the interdependence of its main components: society, economy, and ecology. The prosperity of a society depends on economic progress and the development of new technologies, but in a way that the natural environment is protected and preserved. This concept is inextricably linked to the concept of ecology and, consequently, to all types of transport, given that transport is considered one of the main pollutants of the ecosystem. Due to its rapid development through history, and as the youngest and safest type of transport, air transport is particularly subjected to the environmental impact assessment. At the same time, air transport affects the global economy due to its connection with other sectors, which in turn enables faster mobility of people, services, and goods. This was especially evident with the increased need for faster medical supplies and protective equipment delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. The European Union's transport policy is geared towards sustainable development by linking all environmental and social goals in a balanced way. Considering the negative long-term impact of COVID-19 on the air transportation sector, the question posed in this paper is whether this can be done in an appropriate way. As part of the European Green Deal, the "Fit for 55" package is a set of proposals to revise and update EU legislation with the purpose of introducing new initiatives regarding the climate goals agreed by the Council and the European Parliament. Regarding air transport, the emphasis is on contributing to reducing CO2 emissions and noise pollution and their impact on other sectors and competitiveness. The EU Commission White Paper: "Roadmap to a Single European Transport Area -- Towards a competitive and resource efficient transport system" emphasizes that the EU aviation industry should become a frontrunner in the use of low-carbon fuels to reach the set targets, as well as that the majority of medium-distance passenger transport should go by rail by 2050. There are also initiatives that aviation taxes should subsidize high-speed rail (HSR), which potentially may cause a decrease in the air transport and benefit an increase the rail transport. The paper will also address the questions as to whether existing legislation, measures, and proposals are appropriate, considering that aviation is one of the industry sectors that is most affected by COVID-19 and could be most affected by the "Fit for 55" package, as well what impact this duopoly might have on the market for travel served by air transport. All companies strive for sustainable growth and performance, a complex task in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environment, with evolving legislation transforming the roles and responsibilities of leaders, while being closely watched by investors. Besides the ongoing effect of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the 2020 multidimensional crisis challenged the worldwide status quo in many respects, accelerating the rhythm of change for business models and questioning the leadership competences, motivation, and practices, due to new ways of working, interaction, and collaboration, and different ways the teams are now led and are expecting to be led. The career success is a dynamic concept that evolved over the past decades, being studied through numerous lenses, such as its predictors and antecedents, personal anchors (values and beliefs) and personality traits, own preparation for the professional road (education and learning), drivers, demographics, life choices, and the career capital. This analysis follows the topic of career success over the last six decades, showing the citation evolution of papers on the subject, and identifying the most related articles, as well as the most related journals. The findings are based on a quantitative analysis of Scopus indexed documents, with a qualitative highlight on the most related articles and the most cited articles of the most influential authors. Globally, cities have become hubs for economic activity, productivity, and important platforms for achieving sustainable development goals. The potential of urban agriculture (UA) in improving urban local economies and urban micro-climate has been acknowledged in the literature. The study looked at how the concepts of UA, local economic development (LED), and climate change can be treated in unison. Based on the review of credible published papers on the various concepts of UA, LED, climate change and nature-based solutions (NBS), a proposed conceptual framework was developed in this paper showing the linkages. The paper established that UA could boost LED, build resilient urban settlements, and promote social inclusiveness, but with social challenges. It is therefore recommended that policymakers make UA a crucial aspect of their agenda in the coming years to address the local economic and climate challenges now and in the future. The article examines the links between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the transformative aspects of establishing an encompassing agri-food trade policy in the European Union (EU). Starting with a review of the Sustainable Development Goals, this article focuses on the goal of sustainable agriculture and food security. The paper then investigates the transformative aspects of building a fair agri-food trade policy, including the significance of international trade agreements and the need for effective monitoring and enforcement. Research also includes a quantitative analysis of the scientific community's interest in the EU's effectiveness in implementing its agri-food trade policy, with a focus on the policy's impact on global food security. Microfinance is regarded as a central poverty alleviation strategy and a means of deriving economic growth and employment of small, micro & medium enterprises (SMME). A complex set of best practice models and a network of active members and support of rural people in an organized form and the active support of banks and NABARD in India have emerged to support a thriving industry. Bank credit is available to farmers under the short-term credit for the shape of agricultural products and financial programs such as the medium-term/long-term debt financing for capital investments in agriculture and related activities such as land, including land purchases, minor irrigation, farm mechanization, program development, the domestic poultry animals, fishing, plantation, and horticulture. The loans are available for storing, processing and marketing agricultural products needed now days the long-term and short-term credit of these institutions are also achieved by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). It is the evolution of agricultural finance. In this paper, an attempt has been made to understand the concept of rural finance in India and the role of NABARD in the priorities of the credit sector and also various programs initiated by the NABARD for the sustainable development of rural India. PM2.5 is a bad output of China's improved industrialization and rapid economic development, which seriously threatens people's health and greatly hinders the sustainable economic development. Studying the socio-economic driving factors of PM2.5 emissions is of great significance for reducing air pollution and realizing green development. Therefore, based on the simultaneous consideration of space technology differences and time technology progress, this paper constructs an index decomposition analysis-production-theoretical decomposition analysis decomposition model under the global meta-frontier-production theory. Then, we decompose the PM2.5 emission concentration of 30 provinces in China from 2005 to 2018 into nine driving factors and discuss the impact of different factors from the national, regional, and provincial levels. The results reveal that economic activity is still the main factor to promote the increase of PM2.5 emission, but its effect decreases, while the inhibitory effect of catch-up effect on PM2.5 concentration increases gradually. In addition, economic activities have the greatest impact on the East China, while the time catch-up effect has a more significant impact on the Central and Western China. Moreover, the influence of energy intensity effect, space technology catch-up effect, and time technology catch-up effect is gradually increasing, which have become important factors to inhibit the PM2.5 emission. According to the concept of efficient economic growth, it is important that the sustainable development strategy in Romania take into account the constantly changing economic and social factors, both at national and international level. Unfortunately, taking into consideration the Danube region in Romania, we find several obstacles like the low level of the growth regarding the infrastructure in the area, the psycho-social characteristics of the population, the professional training degree, the crisis economic, superficiality in the work done by certain local public administrations. Of course, the factors enumerated above influence among other economic activities and the tourism activity in the area of interest. Being one of the important sources of income for the Danube population in Romania, both traditional and industrial tourism affect the labor market, with phenomena such as population migration or high unemployment rate. This paper present the current trend in tourism and labor market in counties such as Braila, Constanta, Tulcea, Galati, Ialomiţa, using the online statistical databases. We will also analyze, using different statistical indicators, the degree of impact and the correlations existing between the economic tourism activity and the characteristics of the labor market. In modern societies, tourism has the potential to create many income options for the local communities, as well as to contribute to the physical and mental health of people in a variety of ways. Although enhancing the development of economic activities and employment possibilities for residents, tourism can also cause negative environmental effects. The purpose of sustainable tourism is to enable sustainable economic growth and development which is socially acceptable and harmonized with environmental capacities. To ensure sustainability, tourism activities in the protected areas, such as national parks, must be adequately planned, managed, and supervised. In this regard, the aim of the paper is to assess the indicators of sustainable tourism development in Kopaonik National Park in order to demonstrate that sustainable tourism is a desirable form of tourism in protected areas, as well as to point out the advantages and disadvantages of sustainable tourism in Kopaonik National Park. The analysis has revealed that by promoting awareness and investing in environmental preservation, tourism in protected areas has the potential to make a substantial contribution to economic development without compromising the quality of the protected areas in terms of biodiversity, geodiversity, and cultural and historical values. This paper presents a case study of the microeconomy of a typical underdeveloped village in southwest China and the role of elementary education in the village economy. The paper begins with a brief review of relevant theories on the economics of education and the current social conditions and state of education in the village under study, and then tabulates and summarizes the income and living expenses of the villagers. The results of this analysis of income and expenses show an enormous gap, where a large proportion of the meager income earned by the villagers is “missing.” Further analysis explained the “missing” money: first, it was largely invested in compulsory and higher education; and second, an unusually high proportion of the villagers’ income was spent outside the village. These findings at least partially explain the impoverishment of the village under study (i.e., due to overinvestment in education, a skewed orientation toward external spending, and investment in education outside of the village). This structure of investment and spending siphons off the villagers’ disposable income, smothers economic activity in the village, and ultimately exacerbates the impoverishment of the village under study. Purpose - The aim of the study was to identify the differences in the vulnerability of Polish voivodships to climate change, which may pose a threat to the sustainable development of particular regions. Research method - To achieve the purpose of the research, for each voivodship, a Synthetic Measure of Socioeconomic Vulnerability to Climate Change (SMSEVCC) was calculated. The SMSEVCC was applied in the linear ordering of objects characterized by several diagnostic variables, which were later replaced by one diagnostic value. Results - The implementation of sustainable development in Poland is strongly determined by climate change and the associated extreme weather phenomena. The risk varies regionally and depends on the natural vulnerability of a given area that results from environmental conditions and the level of socioeconomic development. Originality/value / implications / recommendations - The paper presents a comprehensive analysis, evaluation of socioeconomic vulnerability of voivodeships in Poland to climate change. Progress in the implementation of sustainable development requires strengthening adaptation measures to climate change, which should be adapted to the specifics of individual regions. The world is adjusting to regain control over direct economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This adjustment is occurring whilst global collective action is also gearing up to tackle climate change, avert biodiversity collapse and redress unsustainable growth practices that featured in pre-Covid era global economic activity for decades. COVID-19 pandemic experience since December 2019 has been a period of pronounced anxiety and inspiration. Despite the angst of widespread calamity, and the loss of over six million lives, a coordinated global effort helped contain the impacts well short of initial predictions. Progress toward eliminating poverty, the central goal in rural economic transformation, has been set back by decades. The strength in organising — through social and business processes — marked the resilience endured. The recovery is patchy and uneven across individual nations, and the medium-term prospects remain contingent on the efficacy of funding essential human services and clear market bottlenecks. Bridging capacity constraints across the rural–urban continuum also remain a need to ease the regulatory burden as the world tackles widespread externalities of the past to create new growth opportunities. Using a heterogeneity stochastic frontier model (HSFM), we empirically investigated the economic efficiency of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei from 2003 to 2016 and its influencing factors. The key findings of the paper lie in: 1) in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, the overall economic and technological efficiency tended to increase in a wavelike manner, economic growth slowed down, and there was an obvious imbalance in economic efficiency between the different districts, counties and cities; 2) the heterogeneity stochastic frontier production functions (SFPFs) of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei were different from each other, and investment was still an important impetus of economic growth in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei; 3) economic efficiency was positively correlated with economic agglomeration, human capital, industrial structure, infrastructure, the informatization level, and institutional factors, but negatively correlated with the government role and economic opening. The following policy suggestions are offered: 1) to improve regional economic efficiency and reduce the economic gap in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, governments must reduce their intervention in economic activities, stimulate the potentials of labor and capital, optimize the structure of human resources, and foster new demographic incentives; 2) governments must guide economic factors that are reasonable throughout Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and strengthen infrastructure construction in underdeveloped regions, thus attaining sustainable economic development; 3) governments must plan overall economic growth factors of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and promote reasonable economic factors (e.g., labor, resources, and innovations) across different regions, thus attaining complementary advantages between Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei. This paper presents new approaches to investigating economic growth and innovation activity as well as analyzing investment in R&D needs and efficiency in the context of contemporary challenges for European integration. Our research modeled the impact of R&D investment on GDP growth under broad conditions of globalization. In addition to capital and labor factors, we took into account factors that influence climate change, keeping in mind their relation to economic activity. Additionally, we paid particular attention to other factors driving sustainable economic growth, such as consumption of scarce resources as well as inequality and poverty. Herein, we proposed new modeling conceptions for evaluating the impact of R&D investment on economic growth. The suggested method was adapted to analyze the case of development processes in the European Union. Our research confirmed the hypothesis that R&D expenditure has a positive impact on economic growth, and the impact is much higher in well-developed EU economies under conditions of sustainable economic development and globalization. This paper analyzes local production systems by identifying their business structure, and the role played by the main sectors of economic activity in the territory of Cotopaxi-Ecuador as the basis for study. It highlights the Andean-Latin American approach to integral, territorial, and sustainable development, based on the triangulation of regional analysis techniques (specialization and location coefficients, cluster analysis, and Rasmussen’s method) to characterize the dynamics of the local production system and lines of improvement to strengthen the system. The results show the presence of two provincial clusters, a high degree of regional specialization in traditional activities that have little impact on the productivity of the province, and the presence of two key economic sectors. In order to stay competitive in the market, many fast-food restaurant owners are now implementing various measures to promote sustainable development. They include obtaining ingredients from local and organic farms, reducing energy or water use, and implementing recycling and composting. As the percentage of overweight people continues to rise, the interest in healthy eating has also increased. People are becoming more aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and its impact on their overall health. The fast-food industry needs to adjust, implementing new quality strategies to make their businesses more efficient and attractive to consumers. The authors of this research study used a combination of exploratory research and quantitative marketing research to identify the quality strategies and sustainability measures and understand how consumers perceive their implementation. They conducted surveys and interviews with a sample of consumers to gather data on their attitudes and preferences regarding sustainable and quality measures in restaurants. The research results showed that most respondents want to consume fresh, healthy dishes and support the sustainability and quality measures that restaurants apply. Respondents also consider factors such as the waiting time and the quality-price ratio significant when choosing a restaurant. These findings suggest that consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of sustainability and are willing to support restaurants that are promoting it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Over time, the concept of economic development has been the cause of debates in the research environment. Some of the researchers consider the level of economic development of a country to be characterized by high levels of the main macroeconomic aggregates, while another part supports the idea of uniform economic development with a high level of social inclusion. Regardless of the definition of the concept of economic development, it has been proven that a major positive impact is generated by the sustainable development strategy, especially in the light of the concept of circular economy. Therefore, the study addresses the level of economic development of the member states of the European Union based on the impact generated by the circular economy. In addition, based on the analysis carried out, the paper aims to identify the dependency ratio between the variables associated with the circular economy concept and the level of economic development. In order to achieve these goals, a panel regression model was estimated, for all member states of the European Union, on the time horizon 2011-2020. The model used as dependent variable "the level of economic development", and the independent variables were made up of variables associated with the circular economy. The results of this analysis reveal that there are individual effects on both dimensions associated with the analysis (cross-sectional, time series), which leads to the idea that each country is influenced in the process of economic development through the circular economy by its own specificities. The article highlights the main aspects of the formation of the investment policy of enterprises in the conditions of global changes. Attention is focused on the need to analyze the sources of investment financing, determine their volume, structure and relationship with the investment activity of economic entities. Based on the analysis of official data, it was established that in the structure of investment financing sources, the own funds of enterprises and organizations prevail. It is noted that the quantitative composition of investments directly affects the investment activity of business entities. The method of factor analysis was used to identify the relationship between the volume of investments and the level of investment activity of economic entities. Official data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine on the total volume of capital investments and performance indicators of business entities for 2017-2021 were used to conduct the above analysis. It was established that the level of investment activity of Ukrainian business entities is low. It is summarized that the low level of investment activity of business entities is associated with a number of problems, including the ineffective investment policy of business entities. The author's model of the formation of an effective investment policy of enterprises in terms of its main stages, functions and tasks is proposed. At the same time, it is stated that the formation of an investment policy by a separate business entity allows it to economically justify the feasibility, terms, volume of investment, and determine the required volume and types of resources. In turn, the effective implementation of the enterprise's investment policy affects the increase of its investment activity. However, despite the effectiveness and clarity of the formation of the investment policy, it must be regularly reviewed and, if necessary, adjusted, because in the conditions of global changes, the external environment is quite changeable and unpredictable. We present in this paper an analysis of economic centers and their role in shaping employment development patterns and travel behavior in the state of Maryland. We begin by identifying 23 economic centers in the Baltimore-Washington region. We then examine these centers first in their role as centers of economic activity and then in their role as nodes in the state’s transportation system. Finally, we identify the commute sheds of each center, for multiple modes of travel and travel times, and examine jobs–housing balance within these various commute sheds. We find that Maryland’s economic centers not only promote agglomerative economies and thus facilitate economic growth; they also generate a disproportionate number of trips and promote transit ridership. These results provide empirical support for policies that promote polycentric urban development, and especially policies that promote polycentricemploymentdevelopment. Further, they suggest that polycentrism as a sustainable development strategy requires careful coordination of regional transportation systems designed to balance jobs and housing within a center’s transit commute shed. Based on these findings we recommend that the Maryland state development plan, and regional sustainable communities plans across the nation, encourage the concentration of employment within economic centers and encourage housing development within the transit commute sheds of those centers. LCA is essential for achieving the European Green Deal's targets and supporting sustainable development. As LCA tools become more complex, multivariate statistics can offer valuable solutions. However, their potential benefits in LCA are yet to be fully explored. Therefore, this review evaluates scientific publications combining both, focusing on evaluating the fields of application and potential of multivariate statistics in LCAs. Key findings were the identified use cases, which can be categorised as "Grouping of Products/Systems", "Reduction of Parameters", "Evaluation of Parameters", and "Support for Decision Makers". Among these, the evaluation of parameters was the most commonly used category, with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) being the most frequently used statistical method. Although the publications showed high potential for gaining information, there is a lack of publications combining both topics. They were often used for high Technology Readiness Levels and often based on small datasets, although large data sets are desirable for gaining reliable and robust results. This paper presents the results of a comparative spatial analysis of the regions of the Russian Federation in the context of the concept of a green economy with the use of two quantitative factors that characterize the well-being of the population: the payroll fund and the total wage fund and own revenues of the regional budgets per capita. The key environmental and economic indicators used in this study are the indicators of eco-intensity for regional economic systems. They show the particular negative impact on the environment “produced” by the regional economy per unit of economic result. The following characteristics of the region’s socio-ecological system are considered: the volume of atmospheric pollutant emissions in terms of 1000 rubles of the regional payroll fund and in terms of 1000 rubles of own income to regional budgets. The study revealed a high degree of heterogeneity of Russia’s regions in socio-environmental characteristics. It is shown that not only does the population of many natural resource and industrial regions live in conditions of increased anthropogenic pressure (both total and specific), but it also is not provided with additional resources of “collective well-being” through its own budget income, in spite of the unfavorable ecological and natural conditions. It is concluded that carbon regulation aimed at developing a low-carbon economy should not focus on identical quantitative indicators for the whole country. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of the study is to present, using the method of critical analysis of the literature, the selected issues accompanying the phenomenon of so-called "green banking". Green banking includes two main aspects. Internally, it manifests itself as an effort to make the operation of banks environmentally neutral. In the external aspect, i.e. the scope of banks' operation in the market, the idea of green banking is used in the selection of assets in which banks financially engage. As a result, banking institutions are becoming an important instrument for transmitting environmental policy impulses to the economy, particularly by excluding the financing of some traditional industries such as the fossil fuel industry. While the goal of climate protection itself is understandable, the manner and pace of pursuing it is no longer necessarily so. On the one hand, banks succumbing to political and social pressure are imposing pro-environmental missions on themselves, including a rapid shift away from financing the fossil fuel industry. On the other hand, such an approach results in a feedback mechanism through which the likelihood of the creation of so-called stranded assets in the financial system increases, i.e. the loss of value of bank assets previously involved in and linked to environmentally damaging industries. The magnitude of the impact of this phenomenon on the stability of the financial system is difficult to estimate, as its negative effects will not only directly affect the funds involved in certain industries but will also cause the price of commodities and thus of derivatives based on them or related to them to become unstable. Circular economy, the economic model that aims to maximize the use of resources and minimize the impact on the environment by reusing, recycling and encouraging regeneration. Through the SPSS statistical program, estimates are made regarding 3 indicators, the final energy consumption by agriculture and forestry per hectare of used agricultural area, The share of renewable energy in the final gross energy consumption per sector, The recycling rate of municipal waste are needed to be able to identify the direction Romania is heading in the next 10 years. Thus, the final energy consumption by agriculture and forestry per hectare of surface increases from 43.32% in 2021 to 43.32% in 2030, being necessary to adopt new sustainable agricultural practices in order to achieve efficient agriculture by reducing the consumption of energy. According to estimates, the share of recycled municipal waste has increased significantly over the last 20 years, from 1.6% in 2001 to 11.3% in 2021, with Romania expecting to reach 27% by 2030. Due to the importance of the pursuit of sustainable development in global society, it is noticed that an increasing number of organizations are striving to develop in a green direction. A large amount of scientific research is currently being devoted to the development of organizations in a green direction, but there is a lack of tools for assessing the greenness in the scope of the entire organization that could help organizations to assess their current situation in the aspect of greenness and to determine directions for improvement. Based on their previous research and investigations on the topic, authors of this study suggest analyzing the aspect of greenness of an organization in the aspect of its performance evaluation by choosing the perspective of evaluation of resources in the scope of the entire organization. This study aims to carry out an analysis of the existing methodical basis of evaluation of resources of an organization in the aspect of greenness. Methods of systematic and comparative analysis of scientific literature, bibliometric analysis, grouping, critical evaluation and synthesis have been applied. In the year 2022, inflation has become a global phenomenon. According to the World Bank, inflation affected developed countries (100%) and emerging markets/developing economies (87%). About two-thirds of advanced economies and just over half of emerging markets exceeded forecast inflation for 2021. This drove interest rates higher and helped tighten monetary conditions. As a result of the increasing costs of loans, this fact can lead to financial crises. The main causes on account of which the political factor justifies the increase in inflation refer to the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis. However, the direct effect of energy prices on inflation is low, as the share of energy costs in the consumption basket is low, according to the calculation formula used at the European level. Moreover, the population's perception reinforces this aspect, considering the fact that the prices of the most common food products in the daily basket have doubled or even tripled. Even in these conditions, energy companies continued to make high profits, which is why the need to overtax them at the European level arose. Although the energy crisis is recognized as one of the main causes of inflation, despite the importance of this topic, academic studies have neglected to analyze the real impact on inflation of energy shocks resulting from price increases. In such a context, the present study starts from the premise that the current energy crisis cannot be considered to be the only determining cause of the growth of the inflationary phenomenon. This paper aims to present the role and importance of research in the functional structure of the trinomial tower of development, the role of research in supporting and accelerating the development of human society in the areas of nations and world areas. The functional interdependence of the structural elements of the trinomial tower requires ensuring the initiation of short-term and long term actions of interactions based mainly on the level of knowledge, endowment with investigation equipment, actual and future demands of the society and economy, the forecasted development of human needs and society perspective, the level of application and integration of knowledge development results, social interests in supporting and directing the development of knowledge, etc. The structure of research pillar and the way of interaction within the system plays an important role in boosting all actions and activities aimed at supporting the development. The study simulates the harmony of economic development of the regional economic systems in the context of sustainable development for the following successive stages: separation of indicators from the array of statistics in the regional context; standardization of indicators of economic development of the regional economic systems; use of correlation analysis to determine the integrated index of economic development of the regional economic systems; taking into account the coefficients of influence of indicators on the integrated index of economic development of the regional economic systems; determining the harmony of economic development of the regional economic systems using the hyperbolic Fibonacci cone; approbation of modeling the harmony of economic development of the regional economic systems. In accordance with the outlined stages, the proposed method was tested for the regions of Ukraine and an example was given in relation to the economic component of sustainable development. The highest integrated index of economic development is observed in Kyiv, and the lowest in Luhansk region, the difference between the values is 17.6 times. The purpose of this study is to prioritize the economic activities in Yazd Province, Iran, with a sustainable development approach and an emphasis on the importance of water intensity in economic activities. Therefore, multiple criteria were used to prioritize the activities that cover the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. In the first stage, the SFLQ method was used to prepare an inputoutput table for Yazd Province. Then, the economic activities in the province were prioritized in terms of six criteria including the intensity of interdepartmental communication and valueadded (economic dimension), job creation (social dimension) as well as energy intensity, water intensity and pollution (environmental dimension). Moreover, a combination of an input-output model and the TOPSIS method was applied. According to the results of this study, among the activities in the province, "transportation" proved to have the highest priority. Background: The intensity of innovation could often be crucial for further economic development of the regions. Science and technology are often seen as the key factor supporting innovation in the regions. Furthermore, we can assume that higher intensity of research activities could lead to better economic performance. Objectives: Research aims to examine the link between the economic performance of the region and the intensity of science and technology activities, proxied by the share of employees in science and technology. Methods/Approach: The analysis is based on panel data for NUTS2 regions of the European Union (EU) member states. We conducted correlation analysis, panel Granger causality tests and regression analysis. Results: Our results suggest the existence of a significant positive correlation between GDP per capita and the share of employees in science and technology. Moreover, the regions with a higher intensity of science and technology activities are mostly characterized by relatively low unemployment rates. Conclusions: Research activities are positive correlated with regional GDP and negatively correlated with unemployment. However, increasing the share of employment in science and technology beyond a certain turning point would not lead to any further positive effects on regional economic performance.
