This study aimed to explore the influence of parental media mediation on social media addiction and perceived child-rearing practices among adolescents in Pakistan. With the pervasive use of social media among adolescents, understanding the role of parental mediation becomes crucial in mitigating potential negative effects. This study addresses this gap by investigating the impact of parental mediation on social media addiction and its implications for child-rearing practices. Utilizing a quantitative correlational approach, data were gathered from 253 adolescents aged 11 to 17 years using convenient sampling. Questionnaires assessing parental media mediation, social media addiction, and perceived child-rearing practices were employed. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS. Positive associations were found between perceived parental mediation and problematic social media use, particularly in instances of seeking self-improvement or support. Notably, children's subjective well-being was not determined by smartphone usage, potentially due to parental mediation. This research underscores the importance of parental mediation in addressing social media addiction among adolescents. In this current day and age it is difficult to parent children. It is even more difficult to parent and raise children who may be intellectually gifted or musically talented or creative. In this interview Dr. Sule Demirel Dingec discusses the role of the teacher, parent and counselor in terms of helping the gifted. She provides some insights into assisting students with the social and emotional concerns as well as addressing the need for mentors and supportive others. By adopting a tripartite FLP framework, this study aims to explore the agentive role of Polish-speaking fathers in heritage language maintenance. At the outset, it should be noted that as the theme of paternal agency has not been given much prominence in research, this paper delves into how Polish fathers of heteronormative families endeavour to maintain the minority language. More significantly, with the perspective of a new father–child relationship characterised by acknowledged paternity, presence and active involvement in a child's life, the present article gives voice to fathers who want to engage in everyday language practices that seem to transgress the codes of hegemonic masculinity. Thus, the analysis of transcripts from semi-structured interviews disclose the informants' ample opportunities for childcare, and most importantly, their struggle for children's bilingual development. Fathers, as the primary agents, can have profound influence on their offspring's beliefs, values, attitudes and behavioural patterns concerning the heritage language. The investigation underlines the fact that the gender of the minority-language speaking parent is less important in bilingual childrearing than the actual access to resources, time, and motivation. This paper examines child-rearing strategies among Sino-African couples living in China. It explores how and why parents make decisions about their children's citizenship, education, and future country of residence. We argue that there is no universal pattern of child-rearing among Sino-African couples, and that parents are influenced by myriad factors, including their socioeconomic status, community and familial support systems, cultural and religious backgrounds, and value systems. Child-rearing practices are further shaped by wider social systems, such as the structural constraints of China's hukou (residential registration) system, rigid immigration control, and even unstable systems of international trade. Among the various influences, we identify future settlement plans, socioeconomic status, and religious/cultural views as the most significant in shaping approaches to child-rearing. These and other forces often intersect in ways that create an environment of economic, legal, and cultural uncertainty, heightening the challenges that Sino-African parents must navigate. Our objective was to test ways parental caring and over-controlling rearing approaches predict internalizing problems across multiple generations of offspring: from grandparents to parents and from parents to children. We examined whether retrospective perceptions of grandparents’ caring and over-controlling behaviors predicted parents’ current anxiety problems and rearing behaviors toward their own children in a sample that participated in a clinical trial for youth with a specific phobia (SP). We further tested whether parental anxiety and rearing approaches (as perceived by parents and children) predicted children’s longitudinal outcomes of internalizing problems and severity of the SP over time, above and beyond the effects of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) for the treatment of the SP. We were ultimately interested in testing indirect, intergenerational processes from grandparents to children to identify buffers or risks of anxiety via patterns of care and control from parents. Data were drawn from 113 treatment-seeking children with SPs and their parents (52.2% female, ages 6-15, M age = 8.77, SD = 1.75) from pre-treatment to three-year follow-up. Hierarchical linear models tested the effects of earlier grandparent rearing behaviors on parent and child outcomes and the effects of parent anxiety and rearing behaviors on child outcomes. Models supported indirect effects of grandparent rearing behaviors onto child outcomes via ongoing parent anxiety problems and select rearing behaviors, suggesting these intergenerational processes could potentially maintain anxiety (i.e., use of over-controlling behaviors) or buffer offspring from anxiety risks (i.e., use of care behaviors). Objectives: The aim of the study is to examine the physical activity (PA) of young children and their parents on weekdays and at the weekend, as well as possible associations between them.Methods: Fifty-eight children (29 boys), aged 5-8 years (mean age = 6.53 years) and the parent who spent more time with them (25 fathers, 33 mothers, mean age 40.67 years) wore Omron HJ-720IT pedometers for seven consecutive days. Two ANOVAs for repeated measures were applied to examine PA differences between genders and week phases (weekdays vs. weekend days) in children and parents. Moreover, one sample t-tests were used to compare participants' PA to the recommended PA, while linear regression analyses were utilized to examine whether parental PA in each week phase was associated with children's PA.Results: Children accumulated more steps on weekdays than at the weekend (F1,56 = 18.58, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.27), while boys presented higher PA than girls (F1,56 = 12.42, p = 0.001, η2 = 0.20), and accomplished the recommended daily PA, in contrast to girls. Mothers and fathers presented similar PA (p = 0.67, η2 = 0.004), with more steps on weekdays than at the weekend (F1,56 = 9.22, p = 0.004, η2 = 0.16). However, their PA was significantly lower than the recommended. Finally, there were no statistically significant associations between parents' and boys' ambulatory activity either on weekdays (p = 0.938) or at the weekend (p = 0.095). On the contrary, parents' PA explained 47% of girls' PA on weekdays (R = 0.68, F1,28 = 22.81, p < 0.001) and 23% at the weekend (R = 0.48, F1,28 = 6.40, p = 0.02) Conclusions: Boys appear to be more physically active than girls in Greece, whereas mothers and fathers present similar ambulatory activity. Moreover, parents' PA is related to that of their daughters and not to that of their sons. The present study examined the level of parental influence on academic achievement in primary school students who prepare for the National-level test at standard five (grade 6), Secondary Entrance Examinations in Trinidad. A sample of 128 students studying standard five from primary schools was randomly selected. The data were analysed using SPSS. The findings of the study revealed that regardless of parental educational status, all parents try to influence their children to study well. The results showed that there was a positive influence on academic achievement in students. The findings of the study were discussed and implications for future research have been proposed. The study highlighted several recommendations to mitigate the effects of academic anxiety and suggested some measures to be taken by the parents, teachers, peers and social workers to successfully navigate this phase of life marked by transition and search for identity. The role of fathers in child rearing has changed in recent years due to an increase in maternal employment. Despite this, the majority of research has focused on maternal influences and behaviours in relation to child feeding. Therefore, the aims of the narrative review were: 1) to examine the role and responsibility of fathers in child feeding and the factors associated with paternal responsibility in child feeding; 2) to establish how paternal modelling, paternal diets, and paternal feeding practices relate to children's eating behaviours and dietary intake; and 3) to explore the role of maternal perceptions on paternal feeding roles, as well as how maternal and paternal behaviours relate to children's dietary intake. Firstly, given the limited research, no conclusions can be drawn in relation to the factors associated with fathers' roles. An association with child's gender and age as potential drivers of paternal mealtime behaviours was observed, however more longitudinal research is necessary. In addition, research suggests that the majority of fathers have some responsibility in feeding their child, however, mothers are the primary caregiver and somewhat dictate the level of responsibilities fathers have. Interactions during mealtimes between fathers and their child can both positively and negatively influence children's long-term eating behaviours. Inconsistencies in the literature still prevail in terms of whether the child's diet resembles his fathers or mothers more, however, overall family resemblance is evident. Differences exist between maternal & paternal feeding practices with more coercive feeding practices reported by fathers, suggesting they are a more authoritarian figure during mealtimes than mothers. Overall, it is clear that interventions need to adopt a whole-family approach when tackling children's lifestyle behaviours in order to address the differential influence of both parents.
