The aim of this study was to understand how quota holders from a federal university in southern Brazil perceive the influence of institutional characteristics/configurations on their integration process and university permanence. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 students from three areas (humanities, health, technological). The data underwent content analysis. Supports were identified - scholarships for financial assistance, exemption at university restaurant, specialized pedagogical and psychological support services, diversity of extracurricular activities, among others. Some obstacles were acknowledged - restricted hours of operation at some student support services, elitization of selection processes for extracurricular activities, unfamiliarity or ineffective disclosure about the existence of institutional pedagogical support services, lack of offer of breakfast in the university restaurant, among others. The need to deconstruct a process of "exclusive inclusion" was discussed, relating it to public and institutional policies aiming at a formative process with the appropriate quality for all students.
