1. HRB: A New MAC Level 2–Hop Broadcast Protocol with Directional Receiving

IEEE802.11 which is widely used wireless LAN standard, degrades its broadcast performance by existence of hidden terminals. Then, we have proposed RTB–DR (RTS/CTS for Broadcast with Directional Receiving) for improving broadcast performance on single hop situation. RTB–DR can effectively improve receiving performance by introducing directional antenna while keeping simplicity of transmission sequence. In this paper, in order to increase broadcast range without additional transmission delay, we propose new 2–hop MAC level broadcast protocol, named HRB (High speed Relay Broadcast). HRB realizes 2–hop broadcast by broadcast relay nodes selected from sender’ neighbor. The results of computer simulation confirm that, HRB achieves 1.5 times to 4 times higher 2–hop broadcast ratio, even though its smaller transmission period.
