Abstract

International audience; This paper is prepared within a collaboration between the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, which is a Mexican research institute that manages research on sliding-mode control theory, and the ARIA research team of the Intégration du Matériau au Système Lab., a French research groupthat engages research on model-based fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control theories. The paper reviews the application of sliding mode control techniques to fault tolerant control and provides perspectives leading to posing some open problems. Operating principles, definitions of the basic concepts are recalled along with the control objectives and design procedures. The evolution of the sliding mode control technique through five generations (as classified by Fridman, Moreno and coworkers) is reviewed. Their respective design procedures, limitations, and robustness properties are also highlighted. The application of the five generations of sliding-mode controllers to fault-tolerant control is discussed. The focus is on some open problems that are judged to commonly be overlooked. Some applications in real-world systems are also presented.

Abstract

Motivated by uncertain parameters encountered in Markov decision processes (MDPs) and stochastic games, we study the effect of parameter uncertainty on Bellman operator-based algorithms under a set-based framework. Specifically, we first consider a family of MDPs where the cost parameters are in a given compact set; we then define a Bellman operator acting on a set of value functions to produce a new set of value functions as the output under all possible variations in the cost parameter. We prove the existence of a fixed point of this set-based Bellman operator by showing that it is contractive on a complete metric space, and explore its relationship with the corresponding family of MDPs and stochastic games. Additionally, we show that given interval set bounded cost parameters, we can form exact bounds on the set of optimal value functions. Finally, we utilize our results to bound the value function trajectory of a player in a stochastic game., 15 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

International audience; In this paper, we study longitudinal motion controlof car-like vehicles platoon navigating in an urban environmentwith minimum communication links. To achieve a higher trafficflow, a constant-spacing policy between successive vehicles iscommonly used but this is at a cost of an increased number ofcommunication links as any vehicle information must broadcastto all its followers. Therefore, we propose a distributed observer-based control law that depends both on communicated andmeasured information. Our formulation allows designing thecontrol law directly in the curvilinear coordinates. Internal andstring stability analysis are conducted. We provide simulationresults, through dynamic vehicular mobility simulator, to illus-trate the feasibility of the proposed approach and corroborate our theoretical findings.

Abstract

A novel binary decision architecture (BDA) for broadcast news audio classification task is presented in this paper. The idea of developing such architecture came from the fact that the appropriate combination of multiple binary classifiers for two-class discrimination problem can reduce a miss-classification error without rapid increase in computational complexity. The core element of classification architecture is represented by a binary decision (BD) algorithm that performs discrimination between each pair of acoustic classes, utilizing two types of decision functions. The first one is represented by a simple rule-based approach in which the final decision is made according to the value of selected discrimination parameter. The main advantage of this solution is relatively low processing time needed for classification of all acoustic classes. The cost for that is low classification accuracy. The second one employs support vector machine (SVM) classifier. In this case, the overall classification accuracy is conditioned by finding the optimal parameters for decision function resulting in higher computational complexity and better classification performance. The final form of proposed BDA is created by combining four BD discriminators supplemented by decision table. The effectiveness of proposed BDA, utilizing rule-based approach and the SVM classifier, is compared with two most popular strategies for multiclass classification, namely the binary decision trees (BDT) and the One-Against-One SVM (OAOSVM). Experimental results show that the proposed classification architecture can decrease the overall classification error in comparison with the BDT architecture. On the contrary, an optimization technique for selecting the optimal set of training data is needed in order to overcome the OAOSVM.

Abstract

This paper presents a systematic procedure to design a simple control for a three-phase VSC-based static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) in order to overcome the problems caused by the presence of the non-linear load at the point of common coupling (PCC). The proposed control method regulates the STATCOM in such a way that the source quadrature current component is forced to be zero so that only the active current component is drawn from the source and the harmonic and reactive current demands of the non-linear load are met by the STATCOM. The tuning of the inner and outer loop PI controllers is carried out with the help of the modulus optimum and symmetric optimum criteria, respectively. At last, a few case studies are presented using MATLAB simulation to exemplify the success of the proposed control method.

Abstract

The upcoming 5G era is considered as a critical answer to future railway communication needs. In this correspondence, we analyze the performance of sliding window time domain (TD) LMMSE channel estimation technique where a generalized development is proposed and analyzed for 5G filter bank multicarrier-offset quadratic-amplitude modulation waveform candidates. In order to enhance performance, the analytical model is extended to exploit multipaths and multiantennas correlation wherever they do exist e.g., tunnels. TD-LMMSE performance for 5G waveforms and achieved enhancements are verified by Monte Carlo simulations.

Abstract

This paper presents three transistors (3T) based Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) cell in which noise, static power, and data retention voltage (DRV) have been reduced. The spesified parameters in the proposed eDRAM gain cell were improved by connecting the source of storage device to the read word line signal instead of supply voltage. As we all know, power consumption plays a vital role in VLSI design and thus, it is enumerated among the top challenges for the semiconductor chip industries. With the intention to maintain the performance of write operation, we diminish DRV and increase the read margin of eDRAM cell with our designed circuit which is introduced as “A Boosted 3T eDRAM gain cell”. It is a kind of eDRAM cell that utilizes a read word line (RWL) via three PMOS transistors instead of NMOS transistors. PMOS devices are preferred as they have radically less gate leakage current, which confer better results for data retention and thus, boost up the read margin of the cell. Simulation results have been obtained by using Cadence Virtuoso Tool at 45 nm technology for the proposed model. Based on simulation results we can conclude that the parameters of the proposed eDRAM gain cell essentially improved as compared with convertional eDRAM gain cell and the achieved parameters are as follows: static power is 0.767 pW, DRV is 142.009 mV and noise is 8.421 nV/Hz1/2.

Abstract

International audience; This paper investigates the interval observer design for a class of nonlinear continuous systems, which can be represented as a superposition of a uniformly observable nominal subsystem with a Lipschitz nonlinear perturbation. It is shown in this case there exists an interval observer for the system that estimates the set of admissible values for the state consistent with the output measurements. An illustrative example of the observer application is given with simulation results.
