In society, there is widespread and growing acceptance of the value of cooperation between industry and universities being collaborative Research and Development (R&D) domain and industrial policy the fuel of knowledge-based economies. In this paper, different domains of cooperation between the University and Industry as well as their generated benefits for each partner are identified. These benefits have been assigned to each domain of cooperation, showing a large number of benefits associated to collaborative R&D. Leading us to make a statement - collaborative R&D is the key cooperation domain for sustainable long-term university-industry partnerships. Suggestions are given about how to continue this research study.

With the increasing advance of computer and information technologies, numerous research papers have been published online as well as offline, and as new research fields have been continuingly created, users have a lot of trouble in finding and categorizing their interesting research papers. In order to overcome the limitations, this paper proposes a research paper classification system that can cluster research papers into the meaningful class in which papers are very likely to have similar subjects. The proposed system extracts representative keywords from the abstracts of each paper and topics by Latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) scheme. Then, the K-means clustering algorithm is applied to classify the whole papers into research papers with similar subjects, based on the Term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) values of each paper.

This paper describes approaches to the use of wearables and related monitoring and diagnostic tools to glean and present data to patients and their caregivers in the form of Personal Health Dashboard. Raw data from devices such as fitness watches, blood glucose and blood pressure monitors can be analyzed by machine learning algorithms ensembles over the cloud or at the edge, and the resulting patterns can be presented to allow for actionable responses. The advent of low-cost computational, sensing, monitoring and diagnostic tools allow for cost-effective solutions that can have wide adaptability. The paper draws from prior and ongoing research conducted by the team to present these positions in the advancement of healthcare.

Internet of Things (IoT) devices are increasingly being found in civilian and military contexts, ranging from smart cities and smart grids to Internet-of-Medical-Things, Internet-of-Vehicles, Internet-of-Military-Things, Internet-of-Battlefield-Things, etc. In this paper, we survey articles presenting IoT security solutions published in English since January 2016. We make a number of observations, including the lack of publicly available IoT datasets that can be used by the research and practitioner communities. Given the potentially sensitive nature of IoT datasets, there is a need to develop a standard for sharing IoT datasets among the research and practitioner communities and other relevant stakeholders. Thus, we posit the potential for blockchain technology in facilitating secure sharing of IoT datasets (e.g., using blockchain to ensure the integrity of shared datasets) and securing IoT systems, before presenting two conceptual blockchain-based approaches. We then conclude this paper with nine potential research questions. One of the benefits of Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is improved traffic safety and efficiency, for example due to the capability to share vehicular messages in real-time. While most of the vehicular messages only need to be shared by nearby vehicles, some messages (e.g., announcement messages) may need to be more broadly distributed, for example to vehicles in a wider region. Finding a single trusted entity to store and distribute such messages can be challenging, and vehicles may not be inclined to participate (e.g., generation and distribution of announcement messages) unless they can benefit from such participation. In addition, achieving both security and privacy can be challenging. In this paper, we propose a blockchain based secure data sharing system to address the above challenges in an IoV setting. Specifically, in our system, announcement messages are stored using blockchain. To encourage/incentivize participation, vehicles that faithfully broadcast the announcement messages and/or contribute to the block generation will be rewarded by some cryptocurrency. Our system is also designed to be privacy-preserving and realizes both priori and posteriori countermeasures.

Success management can bring valuable contributions to improve project results and stakeholders’ relationships. However, the success management process must be explicitly integrated into project management approaches, guides and methodologies (such as PMBOK, PRINCE2 or PM2), which is not currently happening. The purpose of this position paper is to discuss the need and importance for this integration and to present a first proposal on how this can be operationalized. To support the position, the methodology of the European Union PM2 was used. The result of the integration demonstrates that it is possible to advance management and raise the level of project success.

Imperfect Channel State Information at the Transmitter (CSIT) is inevitable in modern wireless communication networks, and results in severe multi-user interference in multi-antenna Broadcast Channel (BC). While the capacity of the multi-antenna (Gaussian) BC with perfect CSIT is known and achieved by Dirty Paper Coding (DPC), the capacity and the capacity-achieving strategy of the multi-antenna BC with imperfect CSIT remain unknown. Conventional approaches therefore rely on applying communication strategies designed for perfect CSIT to the imperfect CSIT setting. In this work, we break this conventional routine and make two major contributions. First, we show that linearly precoded Rate-Splitting (RS), relying on the split of messages into common and private parts and linear precoding at the transmitter, and successive interference cancellation at the receivers, can achieve larger rate regions than DPC in multi-antenna BC with partial CSIT. Second, we propose a novel achievable scheme, denoted as Dirty Paper Coded Rate-Splitting (DPCRS), that relies on RS to split the user messages into common and private parts, and DPC to encode the private parts. We show that the rate region achieved by DPCRS in Multiple-Input Single-Output (MISO) BC with partial CSIT is enlarged beyond that of conventional DPC and that of linearly precoded RS. Gaining benefits from the capability of RS to partially decode the interference and partially treat interference as noise, DPCRS is less sensitive to CSIT inaccuracies, networks loads and user deployments compared with DPC and other existing transmission strategies. The proposed DPCRS acts as a new benchmark and the best-known achievable strategy for multi-antenna BC with partial CSIT., accepted by IEEE transactions on communications for publication

This paper studies the secure transmission in a multiuser broadcast channel where only the statistical channel state information of the eavesdropper is available. We propose to apply secret dirty-paper coding (S-DPC) in this scenario to support the secure transmission of one user and the normal (unclassified) transmission of the other users. By adopting the S-DPC and encoding the secret message in the first place, all the information-bearing signals of the normal transmission are treated as noise by potential eavesdroppers and thus provide secrecy for the secure transmission. In this way, the proposed approach exploits the intrinsic secrecy of multiuser broadcasting and can serve as an energy-efficient alternative to the traditional artificial noise (AN) scheme. To evaluate the secrecy performance of this approach and compare it with the AN scheme, we propose two S-DPC-based secure transmission schemes for maximizing the secrecy rate under constraints on the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the normal transmission rates. The first scheme directly optimizes the covariance matrices of the transmit signals, and a novel approximation of the intractable SOP constraint is derived to facilitate the optimization. The second scheme combines zero-forcing dirty-paper coding and AN, and the optimization involves only power allocation. We establish efficient numerical algorithms to solve the optimization problems for both schemes. Theoretical and simulation results confirm that, in addition to supporting the normal transmission, the achievable secrecy rates of the proposed schemes can be close to that of the traditional AN scheme, which supports only the secure transmission of one user.

Educational evaluation helps to improve the learning and teaching process. The learning process can be assessed by the examination system. In the examination system, the learners have to answer a set of questions. The learning assessment ensures improved performance in the educational system. The success of the learning assessment is highly dependent on the listening and understanding ability of each student. The assessment of the question paper can be at two levels—cognitive level assessment and difficulty level. The cognitive level assessment is purely based on Bloom’s Taxonomy and the difficulty level assessment is purely based on the examination marks of each student. This article presents a technical method called Question Paper’s Difficulty Level (QPDL) that helps to identify the difficulty level of each question in the question paper. The QPDL method is incorporate in the implementation of ‘QAUDIT’ web application to assess the difficulty level of the question paper systematically. The systematic analysis to identify the difficulty level of the question paper is made for 239 question papers. Each question paper can be recognized based on three difficulty levels such as High, Moderate and Low.

Swarms of autonomous aircraft systems (SAAS) are used to accomplish missions that deal with sensitive and critical data. As such, these systems are subject to attacks among which clone attacks. Several clone attacks detection approaches either in stationary or mobile wireless sensor networks have been proposed. Unfortunately, the existing approaches are not suitable for swarms of autonomous aircraft systems because either they do not guarantee a fast enough detection (while most SAAS missions are real time missions, e.g. surveillance), or they depend on strong assumptions that are hard to achieve in practice (e.g. absence of nodes collusion, impossibility for an attacker to track a genuine node). In this paper, we present a novel clone attack detection approach specific to SAAS that solves several unaddressed issues and that makes it possible to improve the security and the privacy of the assets of the SAAS.

Due to the security threats faced in the connected world, the consideration of security requirements during system design and modeling has become a necessity. Unfortunately, the identification of new requirements that may arise throughout additional phases of a system’s life-cycle (e.g. operation) must also be considered due to the ever-changing threat landscape. These new requirements may derive in system adaptations or modifications that ensure continuous system security. The identification of these new requirements and the implementation of their derived changes must be performed in a timely manner in order to avoid time windows where the system is vulnerable to security attacks. Unfortunately, the timely implementation of security-related changes is a challenge when dealing with automation systems as it may affect their availability and functionality. This position paper presents an approach that allows semiautomatic identification of system vulnerabilities in order to facilitate the derivation of new requirements that allow to ensure the security of a system. This identification is carried out throughout multiple phases of a system’s life-cycle.

The medical field has witnessed an exponential growth of wearable devices mainly due to the advancement in wireless communication and antenna technology. There is a demand for wearable antennas, which are lightweight, flexible, and ease of integration into the fabric which suits on-body applications. Therefore, this work presents the design, fabrication, and analysis of two microstrip antennas using denim cloth and stacked photo paper as substrate material. The novelty of these antennas is the use of silver fabric as ground and radiating patch-conducting layer, which has resulted in significant improvement in overall antenna performance. It is observed that our fabricated antennas have exhibited a gain of 8.71 dB with VSWR of 1.32 for denim and gain of 2.45 dB with VSWR of 1.03 for photo paper substrates respectively.

Photographs are taken as valid evidences in various scenarios of our day to day life. Because of the developments in the field of Image Processing, altering images according to ones need is not a difficult task. Techniques of Image Forensics play its crucial role at this juncture. One of the mostly found types of image tampering is Copy-Move forgery. A copy-move forgery is performed by copying a region in an image and pasting it on another region in the same image, mostly after some form of post-processing like rotation, scaling, blurring, noise addition, JPEG compression etc. Two types of copy-move forgery detection techniques exist in literature. They are the Block based methods and Key-point based methods. Both the methods have their own advantages and limitations. This paper presents a survey on the recent developments in block based methods. As forgeries have become popular, the importance of forgery detection is much increased. Copy-move forgery, one of the most commonly used methods, copies a part of the image and pastes it into another part of the image. In this paper, we propose a detection method of copy-move forgery that localizes duplicated regions using Zernike moments. Since the magnitude of Zernike moments is algebraically invariant against rotation, the proposed method can detect a forged region even though it is rotated. Our scheme is also resilient to the intentional distortions such as additive white Gaussian noise, JPEG compression, and blurring. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme is appropriate to identify the forged region by copy-rotate-move forgery.

Portable communication devices such as WLAN, WiMAX, LTE, ISM, and 5G utilize one or more of the triple bands at (2.3–2.7 GHz, 3.4–3.6 GHz, and 5–6 GHz) and suffer from the effect of multipath problems because they are used in urban regions. To date, no one has performed a review of the antennas used for these types of wireless communications. This study reviewed two types of microstrip antennas (slot and fractal) that have been reported by researchers (as a single element) using a survey that included the evaluation of several important specifications of the antennas in previous research, such as operating bandwidth, gain, efficiency, axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW), and size. The weaknesses in the design of all antennas were carefully identified to determine the most important challenges in the design of these antennas and name the most important limits in the design to be overcome in future research. This study also indicated some antennas that have circular polarization characteristics, the techniques used to generate the circular polarization characteristics, and the challenges. Finally, several suggestions as a guideline for antenna design and future work in designing antennas for Wi-Fi, LTE, and WiMAX communications, according to the market demands, and methods for overcoming the identified limits are presented.

International audience; Advanced internet and multimedia set-top boxes are today massively based on 4*4 MIMO systems, with multi-sub-bands standards (Wifi bands, LTE, Bluetooth,…). Multiple antennas spatially distributed on the plastic casing become therefore a great challenge for cost and performances motivations, thus promoting flexible technology and substrate, for assembling subsystems , under compactness considerations, as well as electrical performances improvement. In this paper, we discuss about the characterisation of Multi-band antennas designed on an ultra-low cost material (a cellulosic substrate, i.e. a paper) with design challenges in terms of radiation efficiency maximization and wideband properties under compactness constraints. Simulation and measurements are proposed to validate the designs.

In this paper a compact, flexible, Multiband antenna is designed. It is having flexible Substrate of photographic paper which makes the antenna conformal. The antenna with two U slots cut in radiating patch is offset fed by microstrip lines gives the multiple bands of WLAN /WIMAX Application and two parasitic Elements improves the bandwidth of a typical microstrip antenna. The Measured results shows that the antenna resonates between Frequency band 2.10-2.95 GHz, 3.35-3.54 GHz and 5.04-6.0Hz.which are used for application such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, ISM 2.4GHz,WLAN WiMAX, and WLAN 5.2GHz.

Virtual Reality (VR) and 360 film have caught the attention of audiences and content creators and emerged as a new media, however, the market penetration of VR and head mounted hardware has remained slow despite the availability of more affordable mobile options. This has resulted in some audiences turning to VR cinemas, festivals and out-of-home exhibitions. Creating affordable, scalable VR cinemas presents a number of challenges and many of the decisions taken in both developing and facilitating these curated exhibitions directly impact audience's reception of spatial audio soundtracks. This workshop position paper looks to discuss the potential issues and future solutions in the use of current synchronous exhibition applications, the competing formats, standardised Head Related Transfer Functions, headphone build/colourisation, and the on-boarding process.

With the development of the Internet and smart phone, mobile data sharing have been attracted many researcher’s attentions. In this paper, we investigate the mobile data sharing problem in mobile crowdsensing. There are a large number of users, each user can be a mobile data acquisition, or can be a mobile data sharing, the problem is how to optimal choose users to collaborative sharing their idle mobile data to others. We consider two data sharing models, One-to-Many and Many-to-Many data sharing model when users share their mobile data. For One-to-Many model, we propose an OTM algorithm based on the greedy algorithm to share each one’s data. For Many-to-Many model, we translate the problem into the stable marriage problem (SMP), and we propose a MTM algorithm based on the SMP algorithm to solve this problem. Experimental results show that our methods are superior to the other approaches.

The clustering coefficient has been widely used for identifying the local structure of networks. In this paper, the weighted spectral distribution with 3-cycle (WSD3) that is similar (but not equal) to the clustering coefficient is studied on evolving social networks. It is demonstrated that the ratio of the WSD3 to the network size (i.e., the node number) provides a more sensitive discrimination for the size-independent local structure of social networks in contrast to the clustering coefficient. Moreover, the difference of the WSD3’s performances on social networks and communication networks is investigated, and it is found that the difference is induced by the different symmetrical features of the normalized Laplacian spectral densities on these networks.

The field of veterinary healthcare informatics is still in its infancy, and state of the art solutions from human healthcare are not easily adapted. IoT and wearable technologies may be bringing a wind of change, as large amounts of health data of animals are now being produced. It makes this a timely moment to initiate a discussion on the possibilities for cross-fertilization between the worlds of human and animal health informatics. In this position paper we report on an ongoing project developing a framework for automatic video-based analysis of animal behavior and describe its concrete application for decision support of behavioral veterinarians. The framework is generic, allowing for reuse across species and different analytical tasks. We further discuss the possibilities for cross-fertilization between human and animal behavior analysis in the context of health informatics.

Patent terminology relation extraction is of great significance to the construction of patent Knowledge graph. In order to solve the problem of long-distance dependency in traditional depth learning, a new method of patent terminology relation extraction is proposed, which combines attention mechanism and bi-directional LSTM model and with keyword strategy. Category keyword features in each sentence obtained by the improved TextRank with the patent text information vectorization added. BiLSTM neural work and attention mechanism are employed to extract the temporal information and sentence-level global feature information. Moreover, pooling layer is added to obtain the local features of the text. Finally, we fuse the global features and local features, and output the final classification results through the softmax classifier. The addition of category keywords improves the distinction of categories. Substantial experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model outperform the state-of-art neural model in patent terminology relation extraction.

Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) has raised a growing interest in how to "tame" serverless to enable domain-specific use cases such as data-intensive applications and machine learning (ML), to name a few. Recently, several systems have been implemented for training ML models. Certainly, these research articles are significant steps in the correct direction. However, they do not completely answer the nagging question of when serverless ML training can be more cost-effective compared to traditional "serverful" computing. To help in this task, we propose MLLess, a FaaS-based ML training prototype built atop IBM Cloud Functions. To boost cost-efficiency, MLLess implements two key optimizations: a significance filter and a scale-in auto-tuner, and leverages them to specialize model training to the FaaS model. Our results certify that MLLess can be 15X faster than serverful ML systems [24] at a lower cost for ML models (such as sparse logistic regression and matrix factorization) that exhibit fast convergence.

The detailed design considerations for the printed RFID-based sensor system is presented in this paper. Starting from material selection and metallization method, this paper discusses types of RFID-based sensors (single- &amp, dual-tag sensor topologies), design procedures, and performance evaluation methods for the wireless sensor system. The electrical properties of the paper substrates (cellulose-based and synthetic papers) and the silver nano-particle-based conductive film are thoroughly characterized for RF applications up to 8 GHz. The reported technology could potentially set the foundation for truly &ldquo, green&rdquo, low-cost, scalable wireless topologies for autonomous Internet-of-Things (IoT), bio-monitoring, and &ldquo, smart skin&rdquo, applications.

In this letter, a chipless radio frequency identification (chipless-RFID) system with erasable/programmable 40-bit tags inkjet printed on paper substrates, where tag reading proceeds sequentially through near-field coupling, is presented for the first time. The tags consist of a linear chain of identical split ring resonators (SRRs) printed at predefined and equidistant positions on a paper substrate, and each resonant element provides a bit of information. Tag programming is achieved by cutting certain resonant elements, providing the logic state “0” to the corresponding bit. Conversely, tags can be erased (all bits set to “1”) by short circuiting those previously cut resonant elements through inkjet. An important feature of the proposed system is the fact that tag reading is possible either with the SRR chain faced up or faced down (with regard to the reader). To this end, two pairs of header bits (resonators), with different sequences, have been added at the beginning and at the end of the tag identification chain. Moreover, tag data storage capacity (number of bits) is only limited by the space occupied by the linear chain. The implementation of tags on paper substrates demonstrates the potential of the proposed chipless-RFID system in secure paper applications, where the necessary proximity between the reader and the tag, inherent to near-field reading, is not an issue.

This paper exemplifies the design and analysis of an inexpensive, compact high data capacity chipless RFID tag on flexible paper substrate. The size of the overall tag with integrated antennas is similar to that of a credit card. The designed tag uses polarization diversity to provide a bit capacity of up to 30 bits in the short range UWB band of 22–26.5 GHz. A systematic progression on to the incorporation of increased number of bit capacity is depicted hereby. Along with frequency variation, this paper also proposes the scheme for bit detection using phase difference determination in order to increase robustness. An interrogation process of the proposed tag to extract the encoded information is demonstrated here and the resulting analysis establishes the reliability of the designed tag.

This paper presents a time-domain, chipless-RFID system with 80-bit tags inkjet-printed on ordinary DIN A4 paper. The tags, consisting of a linear chain of resonant elements (with as many resonators as the number of identification bits plus header bits), are read sequentially and by proximity (through near-field coupling). To this end, a transmission line, fed by a harmonic (interrogation) signal tuned to the resonance frequency of the tag resonators (or close to it), is used as a reader. Thus, during reader operation, the tag chain is mechanically shifted over the transmission line so that the coupling between the line and the functional resonant elements of the tag chain is favored. Logic states that ‘1’ and ‘0’ are determined by the functionality and non-functionality (resonator detuning), respectively, of the resonant elements of the chain. Through near-field coupling, the transmission coefficient of the line is modulated and, as a result, the output signal is modulated in amplitude (AM), which is the identification code contained in the envelope function. As long as the tags are inkjet-printed on ordinary DIN A4 paper, the cost is minimal. Moreover, such tags can be easily programmed and erased, so that identical tags can be fabricated on a large scale (and programmed at a later stage), further reducing the cost of manufacture. The reported prototype tags, with 80 bits of information plus four header bits, demonstrate the potential of this approach, which is of particular interest to secure paper applications.

This paper shows the automatic classification of research papers published in Scopus. Our classification is based on the research lines of the university. We apply the K-nearest neighbor classifier and linear discriminant analysis (LDA). Various stages were used from information gathering, creating the vocabulary, pre-processing and data training, and supervised classification in this work. The experiment involved 596 research articles published in SCOPUS from 2003–2017. The results show an overall accuracy of 88.44%.

This paper shares our experience in developing information literacy skills through a framework based on writing papers in the IEEE format conference. The framework gave students, in an active learning style, a set of activities to identify the need for information, procure the information, evaluate the information and subsequently revise the strategy for obtaining the information, and to use it in an ethical manner to produce a technical paper. We followed the ACRL’s Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education in the development of an assessment tool, course content, and exercises. Initial results show that the proposed framework developed information literacy skills in a maturing stage. We believe that this experience and the design of the framework could be replicated or adapted to different Engineering Careers.

There is a large number of high-profile cyberattacks identified in the year of 2017, i.e., Ransomware attacks are one of the areas of cybercrime growing the fastest. These increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks are forcing various organisations to face security challenges and invest money building security and trust models. There will also be an increase in the use of recent development of security solutions that can help improve the detection performance and react to malicious events. In this position paper, we mainly introduce recent development trends in cybersecurity, including legal issues (e.g., GDPR), Artificial intelligence (AI), Mobile security and Internet of Things.

This effort presents an analysis of a system intended for wireless crack sensing and based on zero-power harmonic transponders. The sensors, which are fabricated by using a paper substrate, are suitable for both structural health and supply-chain monitoring. In the text, different techniques to recover information from the proposed tags are firstly explored, with a particular focus on the potentialities and trade-offs of each approach. Then, the impact of the presence of multiple-nodes on the performance of the system is considered and, finally, some proposals for crack localization in presence of multiple tags are explored and experimentally evaluated.

Developers of applications relying on cryptographic libraries can easily make mistakes in their use. Popular dynamic languages such as JavaScript make testing or verifying such applications particularly challenging. In this paper, we present our ongoing work toward a methodology for automatically checking security properties in JavaScript code. Our main idea is to attach security annotations to values that encode properties of interest. We illustrate our idea using examples and, as an initial step in our line of work, we present a formalization of security annotations in a statically typed lambda calculus. As next steps, we will translate our annotations to a dynamically typed formalization of JavaScript such as λJS and implement a runtime checked type extension using code instrumentation for full JavaScript.

We consider a game-theoretic setting of contention in communication networks. In a contention game each of \(n \ge 2\) identical players has a single information packet that she wants to transmit in a fast and selfish way through one of \(k \ge 1\) multiple-access channels by choosing a protocol. Here, we extend the model and results of the single-channel case studied in [2] by providing equilibria characterizations for more than one channels, and giving specific anonymous, equilibrium protocols with finite and infinite expected latency. For our equilibrium protocols with infinite expected latency, all players, with high probability transmit successfully in optimal time, i.e. \(\varTheta (n/k)\).

1 The aim of the present work is to assess similarities between papers used in a collection of 215 lithographs by Henri Matisse. It combines the use of an anisotropic multiscale analysis built upon the hyperbolic wavelet transform to compute distances between textures, with the fact that four textures of the same print were digitized, corresponding to four different (recto/verso and top/side) views. A permutation algorithm is devised showing the importance of reordering the four views to achieve a meaningful comparison across the papers, thus suggesting possibly different artistic intentions in some prints.

In the context of papers used in the graphic arts, including silver gelatin, inkjet, and wove papers, prior work has studied measures of texture similarity for purposes of classifying such papers. The majority of prior work has been based on classical image processing approaches such as Fourier, wavelet, and fractal analysis. In this work, recent advances in deep learning are used to develop a texture similarity approach for measuring paper texture similarity. Since the available datasets generally lack labels, the convolutional neural network is trained using triplet loss to minimize the feature distance of tiles from the same image while simultaneously maximizing the feature distance of tiles drawn from different images. The approach is tested on three paper texture image databases considered in prior works and the results suggest the proposed approach achieves state-of-the-art performance.

Pervasive Social Networks of Strangers are available constantly, connecting users directly with no preexisting relationships. Such networks demand a high level of privacy, as users should be anonymous and their behaviour unlinkable. However, the anonymity of users could lead to abusive messages, spam, or fraud. A possible solution is to keep track of users' reputations, based on feedback from other users. However, the need to collate feedback on user behaviour to form reputations is at odds with the need for privacy. Anonymous and unlinkable feedback is also required, whilst multiple feedbacks given on the same item should be detected. To resolve this, we use group signatures and direct anonymous attestation, to give a reputation-based messaging scheme.

The interaction between technology and healthcare has a long history. However, recent years have witnessed the rapid growth and adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm, the advent of miniature wearable biosensors, and research advances in big data techniques for effective manipulation of large, multiscale, multimodal, distributed, and heterogeneous data sets. These advances have generated new opportunities for personalized precision eHealth and mHealth services. IoT heralds a paradigm shift in the healthcare horizon by providing many advantages, including availability and accessibility, ability to personalize and tailor content, and cost-effective delivery. Although IoT eHealth has vastly expanded the possibilities to fulfill a number of existing healthcare needs, many challenges must still be addressed in order to develop consistent, suitable, safe, flexible, and power-efficient systems that are suitable fit for medical needs. To enable this transformation, it is necessary for a large number of significant technological advancements in the hardware and software communities to come together. This keynote paper addresses all these important aspects of novel IoT technologies for smart healthcare-wearable sensors, body area sensors, advanced pervasive healthcare systems, and big data analytics. It identifies new perspectives and highlights compelling research issues and challenges, such as scalability, interoperability, device-network-human interfaces, and security, with various case studies. In addition, with the help of examples, we show how knowledge from CAD areas, such as large scale analysis and optimization techniques can be applied to the important problems of eHealth.

Prior work on texture analysis of historic, photographic papers has focused primarily on measures of texture similarity. However, automated grouping or clustering of photographic paper textures in a way that is meaningful to art conservators remains an open problem. In this work a deep learning approach to automated classification is presented, for clusters derived from a human sorting experiment conducted by 19 art conservators and paper experts and subsequently extended through crowd-sourcing. The proposed approach uses a deep convolutional neural network, and results are presented on the performance in automatically classifying images when compared to human experts.

A Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) provides an isolated environment for sensitive workloads. However, the code running in the TEE may contain vulnerabilities that could be exploited by attackers and further leveraged to corrupt the TEE. The increasing buggy code inside the TEE concerns the security of the entire TEE. In this position paper, we present the challenges towards securing trusted execution environments and potential mitigation.

Recently, high-speed IPv4 scanners, such as ZMap, have enabled rapid and timely collection of TLS certificates and other security-sensitive parameters. Such large datasets led to the development of the Censys search interface, facilitating comprehensive analysis of TLS deployments in the wild. Several recent studies analyzed TLS certificates as deployed in web servers. Beyond public web servers, TLS is deployed in many other Internet-connected devices, at home and enterprise environments, and at network backbones. In this paper, we report the results of a preliminary analysis using Censys on TLS deployments in such devices (e.g., routers, modems, NAS, printers, SCADA, and IoT devices in general). We compare certificates and TLS connection parameters from a security perspective, as found in common devices with Alexa 1M sites. Our results highlight significant weaknesses, and may serve as a catalyst to improve TLS security for these devices.

Intrusion Detection System (IDS) has been an effective way to achieve higher security in detecting malicious activities for the past couple of years. Anomaly detection is an intrusion detection system. Current anomaly detection is often associated with high false alarm rates and only moderate accuracy and detection rates because it’s unable to detect all types of attacks correctly. An experiment is carried out to evaluate the performance of the different machine learning algorithms using KDD-99 Cup and NSL-KDD datasets. Results show which approach has performed better in term of accuracy, detection rate with reasonable false alarm rate.

European Rail Traffic Management System(ERTMS) efficiently manages and schedules the trainsguaranteeing passengers safety and service constraints andmaximizing railways capacity. The management system isresponsible of the elaboration needed to control the trainscirculation and to derive the necessary commands for trainsand trackside actuators such as railroad switches. Theseoperations need heavy computational resources and require anexchange of information between trains, trackside equipmentsand elaboration components. Currently the managementsystem is hosted in the Central Control Rooms that centrallymanage and supervise trains traffic of different geographicalareas. This paper proposes a new paradigm about the executionof the ERTMS management activities taking advantage fromcloud networks. It suggests to distribute among cloud resourcesthe computational load due to the elaboration of the collecteddata and the derivation of required commands for trains andactuators. This can make possible a proactive approach tothe trains management, suitable not only to consider the datasent by the trackside equipments, but also the informationdirectly collected onboard of the train. Despite trackside dataare considered by the management system, actually they arenot integrated with onboard real-time data that are sent tothe ground system for diagnosis purposes. These two sourcesof information can be jointly used to simulate in advance thetrain transit, deduce possible delays and anomalies and moreefficiently manage the trains circulation.

Qualitative Communication has been proposed to reduce the granularity of packet dropping due to congestion, from packet level to chunk level, which can significantly improve the user experienced latency and reduce the number of packet retransmissions under the reliable transmissions. This paper proposes an approach to achieve Qualitative Communication by applying random linear network coding to chunks in packet payload. With the help of New IP framework, the network can efficiently perform packet wash in order to retain as many chunks in the packets as possible when congestion happens. The paper proposes several advanced features to further boost the benefits of this approach.

Cybersecurity is now more important than ever, and so is education in this field. However, the cybersecurity domain encompasses an extensive set of concepts, which can be taught in different ways and contexts. To understand the state of the art of cybersecurity education and related research, we examine papers from the ACM SIGCSE and ACM ITiCSE conferences. From 2010 to 2019, a total of 1,748 papers were published at these conferences, and 71 of them focus on cybersecurity education. The papers discuss courses, tools, exercises, and teaching approaches. For each paper, we map the covered topics, teaching context, evaluation methods, impact, and the community of authors. We discovered that the technical topic areas are evenly covered (the most prominent being secure programming, network security, and offensive security), and human aspects, such as privacy and social engineering, are present as well. The interventions described in SIGCSE and ITiCSE papers predominantly focus on tertiary education in the USA. The subsequent evaluation mostly consists of collecting students' subjective perceptions via questionnaires. However, less than a third of the papers provide supplementary materials for other educators, and none of the authors published their dataset. Our results provide orientation in the area, a synthesis of trends, and implications for further research. Therefore, they are relevant for instructors, researchers, and anyone new in the field of cybersecurity education. In this paper we present a novel method to print paper and cardboard without ink. The method is based on the carbonization of paper by a combination of lasers working on different wavelengths. A prove of concept system is created based on combining existing commercial systems to demonstrate the viability of the method. The results show that no debris is generated and the quality of the mark is superior in terms of contrast and resolution with previously known methods.

Tracking progress in machine learning has become increasingly difficult with the recent explosion in the number of papers. In this paper, we present AxCell, an automatic machine learning pipeline for extracting results from papers. AxCell uses several novel components, including a table segmentation subtask, to learn relevant structural knowledge that aids extraction. When compared with existing methods, our approach significantly improves the state of the art for results extraction. We also release a structured, annotated dataset for training models for results extraction, and a dataset for evaluating the performance of models on this task. Lastly, we show the viability of our approach enables it to be used for semi-automated results extraction in production, suggesting our improvements make this task practically viable for the first time. Prof. Mojgan Daneshmand made seminal contributions to the advancements of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology together with her students and colleagues. In this paper, we present our recent work on miniaturized SIW diplexer in memory of Mojgan and her family. The proposed diplexer is centered at 3.45 and 4.9 GHz for 5G sub-6 GHz communications, which is enabled by a common dual half-mode substrate integrated rectangular cavity (HMSIRC) coupled with singlemode cavities in each channel. Besides the elimination of T-junction, HMSIRCs are also introduced for the miniaturization of sub-6 GHz circuits. Additionally, by employing the first two modes in the dual-HMSIRC, a large frequency ratio of 1.42 between 3.45 and 4.9 GHz can be realized, which is difficult to implement with the original whole cavity scheme because of spurious passband problems. A 2nd-order example with ripple fractional bandwidths of 2% and 1.6% for the two channels is synthesized, designed, fabricated, and tested for demonstration.

THE YEAR IS 2028. IT'S 8 P.M. ON A Wednesday night and you're famished. You're staring wistfully at the only remaining item in your refrigerator: a package of sausages with an unappetizing grayish hue. Ugh. Did they always look like that? Are they still safe to eat? In 2018, you'd have to rely on your sense of smell and take a gamble. But in 2028, you might simply wave your smartphone over the package. The smartphone interrogates the package's embedded sensor, which measures the concentration of gases associated with meat decomposition. The smartphone displays the message "Safe to eat within the next 20 hours," and then offers a list of recipes for cooking with sausages. Too hungry to bother with the recipes, you tear open the package, toss the sausages into a frying pan, and discard the package-along with its sensor technology.

As a tool for human technological advancement, the peer-review system acts as a gateway for ensuring academic paper qualities. However, the system has proven to be slow and expensive. Also, biasedness remains an unsolved problem. Such issues could become a major bottleneck, which can adversely impact research progress and dissemination of knowledge. This paper aims to propose a double-blind paper review system to preserve the authors and reviewers anonymity. This system also addresses issues concerning the reviewers payment, inconsistent review metrics, and biased reviews. The proposed solution utilizes the Hyperledger Fabric blockchain with the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). The blockchain smart contracts provide a base for financial transactions between paper publishers and the reviewers. Hence, we introduce AcadCoin, a novel cryptocurrency used for supporting said financial transactions. Also, the Hyperledger blockchain provides user access control to achieve double-blindness in reviews. Along with the Hyperledger blockchain, the IPFS is used to store the paper documents, review documents and open metrics documents to reduce the storage requirement of the blockchain. A broad system architecture is constructed to combine the blockchain and the file storage system. This system architecture distributes nodes of the system to related parties. Finally, the blockchain network is implemented and tested using the Hyperledger Composer Playground environment.

Trends in processor and system architecture, driven by power and complexity, point super-computing landscape toward very high and heterogeneous core count designs. As the number of cores inevitably increase traditional ways of performing large scale computations will also need to evolve from legacy models like OpenMP & MPI. However, such models are very much wedded to a control-flow vision of parallel programs, making it difficult to express asynchrony in programs. To address these challenges, codelet model was developed which is fine-grained, event-driven asynchronous program execution model. In-spite of its initial design goals, the Codelet model is rife with opportunities for further improvements to provide high-performance for both data and control regular applications. The major inspiration behind this work is to leverage the decades of research done to exploit instruction level parallelism (ILP) for the machine instructions inside codelet while build upon the dataflow software pipelining principals at codelet graph level to further enhance performance. In this paper, we propose hardware assisted extensions to the original codelet program execution model in order to implement efficient dataflow software pipelining and extend capabilities of the codelet model. This hardware-software co-design focuses on efficient implementation of data FIFO buffers leveraging proposed optimizations like - FIFO ring buffers and multiple-head FIFO buffers and single owner FIFO buffers to further exploit advantages of dataflow software pipelining. The wide range of scientific, machine learning and specially streaming applications should be able to take advantage of techniques proposed in this paper. Identifying these kernels and bench-marking them are the next anticipated steps for us.
