Temperature and pressure are two effective methods to tune the structure and luminescence properties of phosphors. In this study, tetragonal K 3 AlF 6 : Cr3+ phosphors were synthesized through the solid-state method. Its structure stability and luminescence property were in situ studied under temperature and pressure using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Raman, and photoluminescence spectra. At ambient conditions, one broadband emission presented in the 1.3–1.9 eV range due to the 4T 2 →4A 2 transition. Three phase transitions presented with increasing temperature to 400 °C, but no much change was observed for its luminescence property. In contrast, its structure was stable during compression, and no phase transition was observed up to 26.1 GPa. Furthermore, the crystal field around Cr3+ was enhanced under pressure, leading to its luminescence changing from broad 4T 2 →4A 2 emission to narrow 2E→4A 2 emission above 4.2 GPa. It was suggested that pressure was more effective for K 3 AlF 6 :5%Cr3+ phosphor. This result provides one effective method to modulate the luminescence property of Cr3+. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The HfO2–Ta2O5 system was investigated using two distinct methods: the equilibration method at temperatures ranging from 1 573 to 1 873 K and the differential thermal analysis method up to 2 473 K. To identify the phases, X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy with energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX) were employed. The temperature of the eutectic reaction L→Hf6Ta2O17+Ta2O5 was measured to be 2 052 K and the eutectic composition to be 66.7 mol.% Ta2O5. The peritectic reaction L+HfO2→Hf6Ta2O17 was observed at a temperature of 2 287 K. The heat capacity of the Hf6Ta2O17 phase was measured using differential scanning calorimetry from 240 to 1 300K. Herein, the nanofibrillated poly(butylene succinate)/polytetrafluoroethylene (PBS/PTFE) composites were prepared. The relaxation time was prolonged by PTFE fibrils, resulting in an enhancement in storage modulus and melt viscosity. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to study the non-isothermal crystallization kinetics at different cooling rates. These results showed that PTFE fibrils could promote crystallization nucleation and excessive fibrils could inhibit crystallization growth. Lightweight PBS/PTFE composite foams were fabricated using core-back foam injection molding. Loading the PTFE fibrils increased the cell density of PBS foam from 2.7×106 to 1.4×108 cells/cm3 and improved the cell morphology of PBS foam. By controlling the foaming parameter, the tensile properties of PBS-based composite foam with 1 wt.% PTFE were improved overall, and the Izod impact strength was increased by 9–69% compared with the PBS foam. This study investigates the impact of lignin on the durability and performance of polypropylene-based biocomposites (PP–flax and PP–pine) under environmental stresses such as UV radiation and moisture. The findings indicate that pine fibres, with their higher lignin content, are significantly more resistant to thermal degradation than flax fibres. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed that lignin influences crystallinity and melting temperatures across the composites, with variations corresponding to fibre type. Acoustic emissions analysis revealed that increasing the lignin content in pine fibres effectively reduces surface microcracks under UV exposure. Overall, these results underscore the importance of fibre composition in improving the performance and longevity of biocomposites, making them better suited for durable construction applications. In the present study, polystyrene (PS) is chemically modified with diethyl(acryloyloxymethyl)phosphonate (DEAMP) and an N‐containing monomer, selected from different classes of compounds, via a ter‐polymerization route; thus, exploring possible P–N synergistic effects on fire retardance of the base polymer. The successful incorporation of P and N monomeric units is confirmed by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT‐IR), 1H and 31P Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopies. The thermal degradation and combustion attributes of modified polymeric materials are measured using standard techniques, including Thermo‐Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), "bomb" calorimetry, and Pyrolysis Combustion Flow Calorimetry (PCFC). The thermal and combustion studies demonstrate that the thermal stability and combustion characteristics of styrenic polymers are significantly altered by the presence of even nominal amounts of P‐ and N‐containing groups, and in certain cases, synergistic interactions of these groups are also evident. For instance, as revealed by TGA, the extent of char formation, under the oxidative atmosphere, in the prepared ter‐polymers, is enhanced by 16–44%, when compared to the unmodified PS. The heat release rates and heat release capacities of ter‐polymers, measured using the PCFC technique, are reduced by 18–50%, in comparison to the same parameters obtained for the unmodified counterpart. Syzgium cumini (L.) Skeels powder (S. cumini powder), also known as Jamun, is well-known for its various medical and health benefits. It is especially recognized for its antidiabetic and antioxidant properties. Thus, S. cumini powder is used in various industries, such as the food and cosmetic industries. In this work, the fruit of S. cumini was utilized; its seeds were extracted, dried, and ground into powder. The ground powders were subjected to various techniques such as physicochemical tests, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), particle size analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and antioxidant analysis. From the physicochemical tests, it was revealed that the jamun seed filler contained cellulose (43.28%), hemicellulose (19.88%), lignin (23.28%), pectin (12.58%), and wax (0.98%). The FTIR analysis supported these results. For instance, a peak at 2889 cm−1 was observed and associated with CH stretching, typically found in methyl and methylene groups, characteristic of cellulose and hemicellulose structures. The XRD results demonstrated that the crystallinity index of the jamun seed filler was 42.63%. The particle analysis indicated that the mean (average) particle size was 25.34 μm. This observation was ensured with SEM results. The EDX spectrum results showed the elemental composition of the fillers. Regarding thermal degradation, the jamun seed filler had the ability to withstand temperatures of up to 316.5 °C. Furthermore, endothermic and exothermic peaks were observed at 305 °C and 400 °C, respectively. Furthermore, the antioxidant property of the powder displayed a peak scavenging activity of 91.4%. This comprehensive study not only underscores the viability of S. cumini powder as a sustainable and effective particulate filler in polymer composites but also demonstrates its potential to enhance the mechanical properties of composites, thereby offering significant implications for the development of eco-friendly materials in various industrial applications. Agricultural residue-activated carbon and biochar, inexpensive and environmentally friendly adsorbent materials, have recently received significant research attention. This study investigated the potential use of oak cupules in activated carbon form to remove widespread heavy metals (Pb2+, Cu2+, and Ni2+) from wastewater. The oak-activated carbon was prepared from oak cupules and activated with phosphoric acid. Oak-activated carbon was characterized using FTIR, BET analysis, energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The Freundlich, Langmuir, and Temkin isotherm models were used to assess the equilibrium data. The impact of various parameters, including pH effect, temperature, adsorbent dose, and contact time, was estimated. The Freundlich model was the most agreeable with Pb2+ adsorption by oak-based activated carbon, and Langmuir was more compatible with Cu2+ and Ni2+. Under optimum conditions, the average maximum removal was 63% Pb2+, 60% Cu2+, and 54% Ni2+ when every ion was alone in the aqueous solution. The removal was enhanced to 98% Pb2+, 72% Cu2+, and 60% Ni2+ when found as a mixture. The thermodynamic model revealed that the adsorption of ions by oak-based activated carbon is endothermic. The pseudo-second-order kinetic best describes the adsorption mechanism in this study; it verifies chemical sorption as the rate-limiting step in adsorption mechanisms. In recent years, conductive polymer nanocomposites have gained significant attention due to their promising thermoresistive and Joule heating properties across a range of versatile applications, such as heating elements, smart materials, and thermistors. This paper presents an investigation of semi-crystalline polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nanocomposites with 6 wt.% carbon-based nanofillers, namely graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), and a combination of GNPs and MWCNTs (hybrid). The influence of the mono- and hybrid fillers on the crystalline structure was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It was found that the nanocomposites had increased amorphous fraction compared to the neat PVDF. Furthermore, nanocomposites enhanced the β phase of the PVDF by up to 12% mainly due to the presence of MWCNTs. The resistive properties of the nanocompositions were weakly affected by the temperature in the analyzed temperature range of 25–100 °C; nevertheless, the hybrid filler composites were proven to be more sensitive than the monofiller ones. The Joule heating effect was observed when 8 and 10 V were applied, and the compositions reached a self-regulating effect at around 100–150 s. In general, the inclusion in PVDF of nanofillers such as GNPs and MWCNTs, and especially their hybrid combinations, may be successfully used for tuning the self-regulated Joule heating properties of the nanocomposites. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), pivotal for tissue repair, utilize collagen to restore structural integrity in damaged tissue, preserving its organization through concomitant remodeling. The non-enzymatic glycation of collagen potentially compromises MSC communication, particularly upon advancing the process, underlying various pathologies such as late-stage diabetic complications and aging. However, an understanding of the impact of early-stage collagen glycation on MSC interaction is lacking. This study examines the fate of in vitro glycated rat tail collagen (RTC) upon exposure to glucose for 1 or 5 days in contact with MSCs. Utilizing human adipose tissue-derived MSCs (ADMSCs), we demonstrate their significantly altered interaction with glycated collagen, characterized morphologically by reduced cell spreading, diminished focal adhesions formation, and attenuated development of the actin cytoskeleton. The morphological findings were confirmed by ImageJ 1.54g morphometric analysis with the most significant drop in the cell spreading area (CSA), from 246.8 μm2 for the native collagen to 216.8 μm2 and 163.7 μm2 for glycated ones, for 1 day and 5 days, respectively, and a similar trend was observed for cell perimeter 112.9 μm vs. 95.1 μm and 86.2 μm, respectively. These data suggest impaired recognition of early glycated collagen by integrin receptors. Moreover, they coincide with the reduced fibril-like reorganization of adsorbed FITC-collagen (indicating impaired remodeling) and a presumed decreased sensitivity to proteases. Indeed, confirmatory assays reveal diminished FITC-collagen degradation for glycated samples at 1 day and 5 days by attached cells (22.8 and 30.4%) and reduced proteolysis upon exogenous collagenase addition (24.5 and 40.4%) in a cell-free system, respectively. This study investigated a blend of poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and Saqqez gum, with a weight ratio of 70:30, respectively, along with two plasticizers, acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC) and polyethylene glycol (PEG), at three different concentrations (14%, 16% and 18% by weight of the PLA). The blend was analyzed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), tensile tests, water-absorption behavior (coefficients of water absorption, sorption, diffusion and permeability of the samples during 240 h) and chemical resistance (exposure to 1 mol/L HCl and 1 mol/L NaOH for 240 h). The desired elastomer blend was then used to prepare natural chewing gum, which was subsequently subjected to texture profile analyzer (TPA) tests and sensory evaluation. The results showed that the addition of both plasticizers increased the tensile properties of the blend. Compared to neat PLA, all the blends exhibited an increase in elongation at break and a decrease in yield strength, with the maximum elongation at break (130.6%) and the minimum yield strength (12.2 MPa) observed in the blend containing 16% ATBC. Additionally, all the thermal attributes studied, including Tg, Tc and Tm, were lower than those of neat PLA, and the Tg values deviated from the values predicted via Fox's equation. SEM images of the blends confirmed that plasticization improved the homogeneity and distribution of the components in the blend structure. PEG 18% and ATBC 16% exhibit the highest and lowest water-absorption behavior, respectively. Regarding chemical resistance, all blends showed weight gain when exposed to HCl, while no weight loss was observed for resistance to NaOH. The chewing gum sample obtained similar values for the mentioned tests compared to the commercial control sample. Objective(s): Currently, the most important treatment approach for hemophilia type A is recombinant Factor VIII. However, due to its low retention time in the blood, the patients usually need successive injections. In addition, neutralization of injected proteins by antibodies complicates treatment. We examined the prolongation of the persistence time of injectable FVIII in the blood and the potential effects on survival using promising PEGylated liposomes (PEGLip) utilizing hydrogenated soy phosphatidylcholine (HSPC, Tm= 54.5 °C) and 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-phosphatidylcholine (POPC, Tm= - 2 °C). Materials and Methods: Nanoliposomes with different percentages of PEG (3% and 5%) were obtained via the thin film hydration procedure and extrusion. Liposomal FVIII formulation was prepared and characterization was done. Results: The results revealed that the formulations are in the 80-120 nm range with uniform dispersion, which was confirmed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) imaging. The phase transition temperature (Tm) of the liposomes was obtained by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). With an attachment efficacy of approximately 87%, proteins bind non-covalently yet with a strong affinity to the exterior of PEGLip. The final formulations underwent additional examination. No significant change was observed in size, charge, and PDI between the FVIII-conjugated liposomal formulations and their liposomal nanoparticles. The selected formulations were injected into BALB/c mice. The circulation time and potential clotting effectiveness of PEGLip-FVIII are vastly improved over free protein, in non-hemophilic mice. Conclusion: The obtained results showed that using phospholipids with high Tm (HSPC) can improve the hemostatic efficiency of liposomes more than phospholipids with low Tm (POPC). Fe-based amorphous alloys are an eco-friendly alternative to Ni- and Co-based amorphous alloys, which are not sustainable. Herein, amorphous Fe–P alloys were electrodeposited from an eco-friendly aqueous electrolyte. The influence of bath temperature on the electrochemical behaviour during Fe–P alloy deposition was investigated using linear-sweep voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry. The morphology, P content and phase structure were characterized via scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. The electrochemical corrosion behaviour in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was studied using potentiodynamic polarization curves and EIS spectra. The results showed that an increase in bath temperature leads to a positive shift in the inductive co-deposition potential and increases the reaction rate. At bath temperatures of 20–60°C, the P content in deposits varied in the range of 17.07–21.13 wt% and the phase structure was amorphous. Although the amorphous alloys lacked crystalline defects, the P content had a marginal effect on the corrosion properties, whereas the surface morphology significantly influenced the corrosion properties. The amorphous Fe–P alloys fabricated in this study exhibit superior corrosion properties to almost all electrodeposited amorphous alloys reported in the literature, demonstrating their potential for corrosion protection. Cyclosporine A (CyA) holds significant importance as a strategic immunosuppressive drug for organ transplant patients. In this study, we aimed to produce pure and cost-effective Cyclosporine A (CyA) by fermenting a culture medium containing dairy sludge, using Tolypocladium inflatum PTCC 5253. Following the fermentation stage, ethyl acetate extraction and fast protein liquid chromatography were employed for sample purification. The initial evaluation of the effectiveness of CyA obtained from these processes was performed through bioassay, wherein the antimicrobial clear zone diameter was found to be larger compared to the sample obtained from the fermentation culture. The concentration of CyA was determined using high-performance liquid chromatography, yielding values of 334 mg/L, 456 mg/L, and 578 mg/L for the fermented, extracted, and purified samples, respectively. Further analysis utilizing liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) confirmed a purity of 91.9% and proper agreement with the standard sample based on the ion intensity of Z/m 1205. To validate the structure of CyA, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), and Raman spectroscopy were employed. X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry analyses demonstrated that the purified CyA exhibited a crystal structure similar to the standard sample, characterized by two broad peaks at 2θ = 9° and 20°, and comparable glass transition temperatures (57–68 °C for the purified sample; 53–64 °C for the standard sample). Dynamic light scattering analysis confirmed a uniform particle size distribution in both the purified and standard samples. The zeta potentials of the purified and standard samples were determined to be − 25.8 ± 0.16 and − 23.63 ± 0.12 mV, respectively. This study aimed at developing and optimizing the orally dispersible thin film (ODTF) containing a plant-derived drug—curcumin (CUR). CUR belongs to a biopharmaceutical classification system (BCS) class IV compound that requires improving its water solubility and tissue permeability preceding formulation. An ODTF was applied to produce a solid dispersion matrix for CUR to resolve such solubility and permeability problems. The film-forming polymers used in the study were cellulose-based (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose/HPMC and carboxymethylcellulose/CMC) and saccharide-based maltodextrin (MDX). Poloxamer (POL) was also employed as surfactant and solubilizer. The solvent casting technique was applied to produce the films. The ethanolic solution of CUR was mixed with an aqueous solution of POLs and then incorporated into different film-forming polymers prior to casting. The processing of the CUR with POL solution was intended to aid in the even dispersion of the drug in the polymeric matrices and enhance the wettability of the films. The physical state and properties of the films were characterized in terms of their morphology, crystallinity of the drug, and phase miscibility of the mixtures. The dissolution profile of the films was also evaluated in terms of dissolution rate and dissolution efficiency. The obtained ODTF products were smooth and flat-surfaced. Physical characterization also indicated that the CUR was homogeneously dispersed in the ODTFs and no longer existed as crystalline material as revealed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The CUR was also not phase-separated from the films as disclosed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Such dispersion was achieved through the solubilizing effect of POLs and compact polymeric film matrices that prevented the CUR from recrystallization. Furthermore, the ODTFs also improved the dissolution of CUR by 3.2-fold higher than the raw CUR. Overall, cellulose-based films had favorable physical properties compared with saccharide-based films. As an orally effective benzimidazole anthelmintic agent, fenbendazole was not only widely used in agriculture and animal husbandry to prevent and treat parasites, but also shows anti-cancer effects against several types of cancer, exhibits anti-cancer effects in paclitaxel and doxorubicin-resistant cancer cells. However, fenbendazole's poor in water solubility (0.3 µg/mL), limits its clinical applications. Even great efforts were made toward increasing its water solubility, the results were not significant to reach anti-cancer drug delivery requirement (5–10 mg/mL). Through single factor and orthogonal strategy, many complex conditions were designed and used to prepare the complexes, the inclusion complex with methyl-β-cyclodextrin with 29.2 % of inclusion rate and 89.5% of inclusion yield can increase drug's water solubility to 20.21 mg/mL, which is the best result so far. Its structure was confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopic image, 1D and 2D NMR spectra in D2O. In its in vitro pharmacokinetic study, fenbendazole was 75% released in 15 min., in its in vivo pharmacokinetic study, the bio-availabilities of fenbendazole, its major metabolic anthelmintic agent oxfendazole and its minor metabolic anthelmintic agent oxfendazole were increased to 138%, 149% and 169% respectively, which would allow for fewer drug doses to achieve the same therapeutic effect and suggest that the complex can be used as a potential anticancer agent. Although a low temperature limit for life has not been established, it is thought that there exists a physical limit imposed by the onset of intracellular vitrification, typically occurring at ~−20 °C for unicellular organisms. Here, we show, through differential scanning calorimetry, that molar concentrations of magnesium perchlorate can depress the intracellular vitrification point of Bacillus subtilis cells to temperatures much lower than those previously reported. At 2.5 M Mg(ClO4)2, the peak vitrification temperature was lowered to −83 °C. Our results show that inorganic eutectic salts can in principle maintain liquid water in cells at much lower temperatures than those previously claimed as a lower limit to life, raising the prospects of active biochemical processes in low temperature natural settings. Our results may have implications for the habitability of Mars, where perchlorate salts are pervasive and potentially other terrestrial and extraterrestrial, cryosphere environments. A differential scanning calorimetry study of Bacillus subtilis vitrification shows that perchlorate salts can lower the onset of intracellular vitrification, with implications for the low temperature limit of life in salt-rich subzero environments. The frontiers of antibacterial materials in the biomedical field are constantly evolving since infectious diseases are a continuous threat to human health. In this work, waste-wool-derived keratin electrospun nanofibers were blended with copper by an optimized impregnation procedure to fabricate antibacterial membranes with intrinsic biological activity, excellent degradability and good cytocompatibility. The keratin/copper complex electrospun nanofibers were multi-analytically characterized and the main differences in their physical–chemical features were related to the crosslinking effect caused by Cu2+. Indeed, copper ions modified the thermal profiles, improving the thermal stability (evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetry), and changed the infrared vibrational features (determined by infrared spectroscopy) and the chemical composition (studied by an X-ray energy-dispersive spectroscopy probe and optical emission spectrometry). The copper impregnation process also affected the morphology, leading to partial nanofiber swelling, as evidenced by scanning electron microscopy analyses. Then, the membranes were successfully tested as antibacterial materials against gram-negative bacteria, Escherichia coli. Regarding cytocompatibility, in vitro assays performed with L929 cells showed good levels of cell adhesion and proliferation (XTT assay), and no significant cytotoxic effect, in comparison to bare keratin nanofibers. Given these results, the material described in this work can be suitable for use as antibiotic-free fibers for skin wound dressing or membranes for guided tissue regeneration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, the results of research on a NiTi alloy with a high nickel content (51.7 at.%), produced using the additive technology SLM method and subjected to isothermal ageing after solution annealing, are presented. The study involved the determination of the sequence of phase transformations occurring using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the determination of the temperature range of these transformations. In parallel, the phase composition was determined using the XRD method; the hardness and the Young's modulus were also determined. The analysis of the DSC results obtained indicates the following characteristic features of the NiTi alloy, which change with ageing time: (1) During cooling (from +150 °C to −50 °C), the type of transformation changes from a one-step transformation after solution annealing to a two-step transformation after the ageing process over 1, 20, and 100 h at 500 °C; (2) during heating (from −50 °C to +150 °C) for all the samples, regardless of the ageing time, only a one-step transformation from martensite M(B19′) to austenite A(B2) is observed; (3) the temperature at which the transformation starts increases with the ageing time; (4) the width of the total temperature range of the transformation M(B19′) → A(B2) during heating changes from large (ΔT = 49.7 °C), after solution annealing, to narrow (ΔT = 19.3 °C and ΔT = 17.9 °C after 20 h and 100 h of ageing); and, most importantly, (5) a comparison with the literature data shows that, irrespective of the composition of the NiTi alloy and the manufacturing technology of the alloy samples (regardless of whether this was traditional or additive technology), a sufficiently long ageing process period leads to the occurrence of the martensite → austenite transformation in the same temperature range. The resistance of nickel–titanium endodontic instruments against cyclic fatigue failure remains a significant concern in clinical settings. This study aimed to assess the cyclic fatigue strength of five nickel–titanium rotary systems, while correlating the results with the instruments' geometric and metallurgical characteristics. A total of 250 new instruments (sizes S1/A1, S2/A2, F1/B1, F2/B2, F3/B3) from ProTaper Gold, ProTaper Universal, Premium Taper Gold, Go-Taper Flex, and U-Files systems underwent mechanical testing. Prior to experimental procedures, all instruments were meticulously inspected to identify irregularities that could affect the investigation. Using a stereomicroscope, design characteristics such as the number of spirals, length, spirals per millimeter, and average helical angle of the active blade were determined. The surface finishing characteristics of the instruments were examined using a scanning electron microscope. Differential scanning calorimetry was employed to establish the instruments' phase transformation temperatures, while energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy was utilized to analyze the elemental composition of the alloy. The instruments were subjected to cyclic fatigue testing within a stainless steel non-tapered artificial canal featuring a 6 mm radius and 86 degrees of curvature. Appropriate statistical tests were applied to compare groups, considering a significance level of 0.05. The assessed design characteristics varied depending on the instrument type. The least irregular surface finishing was observed in U-Files and Premium Taper Gold files, while the most irregular surface was noted in Go-Taper Flex. All instruments exhibited near-equiatomic proportions of nickel and titanium elements, whereas ProTaper Universal and U-Files instruments demonstrated lower phase transformation temperatures compared to their counterparts. Larger-sized instruments, as well as ProTaper Universal and U-Files, tended to display lower cyclic fatigue strength results. Overall, the design, metallurgical, and cyclic fatigue outcomes varied among instruments and systems. This study delineates a methodology for the preparation of new composites based on a photocurable urethane-acrylate resin, which has been modified with (3-thiopropyl)polysilsesquioxane (SSQ-SH). The organosilicon compound combines fully enclosed cage structures and incompletely condensed silanols (a mixture of random structures) obtained through the hydrolytic condensation of (3-mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane. This process involves a thiol-ene "click" reaction between SSQ-SH and a commercially available resin (Ebecryl 1271®) in the presence of the photoinitiator DMPA, resulting in composites with significantly changed thermal properties. Various tests were conducted, including thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transmittance infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (Photo-DSC), and photoreological measurement mechanical property, and water contact angle (WCA) tests. The modification of resin with SSQ-SH increased the temperature of 1% and 5% mass loss compared to the reference (for 50 wt% SSQ-SH, T5% was 310.8 °C, an increase of 20.4 °C). A composition containing 50 wt% of SSQ-SH crosslinked faster than the reference resin, a phenomenon confirmed by photorheological tests. This research highlights the potential of new composite materials in coating applications across diverse industries. The purpose of this study was to resolve the issue of physical instability in amorphous solid drugs, which can result in unwanted crystallization, affecting solubility and dissolution rates. The focus was on precipitating physically stable amorphous forms of the nilotinib free base, an anticancer drug, by monitoring preparation conditions such as precipitation temperature and filter cake thickness. A comprehensive set of characterization techniques, including powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and focused beam reflectance measurement (FBRM), were used. These were supplemented by advanced data analysis methods that incorporated pair distribution function (PDF), reduced crystallization temperature (Rc), and principal component analysis (PCA) to evaluate the physical stability of the amorphous samples. Results emphasized that optimal physical stability was achieved when amorphous solids were prepared at a precipitation temperature of 10 °C and a filter cake thickness of 4 cm. Moreover, the integration of PDF analysis with Rc values was confirmed as an innovative approach for assessing physical stability, thus offering enhanced efficiency and accuracy over conventional accelerated stability testing methods. 1,3,5-Tris-(α-naphthyl)benzene is an organic non-electrolyte with notable stability of an amorphous phase. Its glassy and supercooled liquid states were previously studied by spectroscopic and calorimetric methods. Despite the continuing interest in its amorphous state and, particularly, vapor-deposited glasses, the thermodynamic parameters of the vaporization of 1,3,5-tris-(α-naphthyl)benzene have not been obtained yet. Likewise, the reliable evaluation of the thermodynamic parameters of fusion below the melting point, required to establish the thermodynamic state of its glass, is still an unsolved problem. In this work, the heat capacities of crystalline and liquid phases, the temperature dependence of the saturated vapor pressures, fusion and vaporization enthalpies were determined using differential and fast scanning calorimetry and were verified using the estimates based on solution calorimetry. The structural features of 1,3,5-tris-(α-naphthyl)benzene are discussed based on the computations performed and the data on the molecular refractivity. Fluconazole (FZ) is a potential antifungal compound for treating superficial and systemic candidiasis. However, the use of conventional oral drug products has some limitations. The development of buccal film may be a potential alternative to oral formulations for FZ delivery. The present study involved the development of novel FZ-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (FZ-SLNs) in pectin solutions and the investigation of their particle characteristics. The particle sizes of the obtained FZ-SLNs were in the nanoscale range. To produce pectin films with FZ-SLNs, four formulations were selected based on the small particle size of FZ-SLNs and their suitable polydispersity index. The mean particle sizes of all chosen FZ-SLNs formulations did not exceed 131.7 nm, and the mean polydispersity index of each formulation was less than 0.5. The properties of films containing FZ-SLNs were then assessed. The preparation of all FZ-SLN-loaded pectin films provided the mucoadhesive matrices. The evaluation of mechanical properties unveiled the influence of particle size variation in FZ-SLNs on the integrity of the film. The Fourier-transform infrared spectra indicated that hydrogen bonds could potentially form between the pectin-based matrix and the constituents of FZ-SLNs. The differential scanning calorimetry thermogram of each pectin film with FZ-SLNs revealed that the formulation was thermally stable and behaved in a solid state at 37 °C. According to a drug release study, a sustained drug release pattern with a burst in the initial stage for all films may be advantageous for reducing the lag period of drug release. All prepared films with FZ-SLNs provided a sustained release of FZ over 6 h. The films containing FZ-SLNs with a small particle size provided good permeability across the porcine mucosa. The modified release of active substances such as chlorzoxazone from matrix tablets, based on Kollidon®SR and chitosan, depends both on the drug solubility in the dissolution medium and on the matrix composition. The aim of this study is to obtain some new oral matrix tablet formulations, based on Kollidon®SR and chitosan, in order to optimize the low-dose oral bioavailability of chlorzoxazone, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug of class II Biopharmaceutical Classification System. Nine types of chlorzoxazone matrix tablets were obtained using the direct compression method by varying the components ratio as 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3 chlorzoxazone/excipients, 20–40 w/w % Kollidon®SR, 3–7 w/w % chitosan while the auxiliary substances: Aerosil® 1 w/w %, magnesium stearate 0.5 w/w % and Avicel® up to 100 w/w % were kept in constant concentrations. Pharmaco-technical characterization of the tablets included the analysis of flowability and compressibility properties (flow time, friction coefficient, angle of repose, Hausner ratio, and Carr index), and pharmaco-chemical characteristics (such as mass and dose uniformity, thickness, diameter, mechanical strength, friability, softening degree, and in vitro release profiles). Based on the obtained results, only three matrix tablet formulations (F1b, F2b, and F3b, containing 30 w/w % KOL and 5 w/w % CHT, were selected and further tested. These formulations were studied in detail by Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry. The three formulations were comparatively studied regarding the release kinetics of active substances using in vitro release testing. The results were analyzed by fitting into four representative mathematical models for the modified-release oral formulations. In vitro kinetic study revealed a complex mechanism of release occurring in two steps of drug release, the first step (0–2 h) and the second (2–36 h). Two factors were calculated to assess the release profile of chlorzoxazone: f1—the similarity factor, and f2—the factor difference. The results have shown that both Kollidon®SR and chitosan may be used as matrix-forming agents when combined with chlorzoxazone. The three formulations showed optima pharmaco-technical properties and in vitro kinetic behavior; therefore, they have tremendous potential to be used in oral pharmaceutical products for the controlled delivery of chlorzoxazone. Developing sophisticated lithium-ion batteries with high energy and power density requires using high-voltage positive electrodes. Due to its three-dimensional lithium-ion diffusion and greater nominal operating voltage, spinel LiNi 0.5 Mn 1.5 O 4 has emerged as one of lithium-ion batteries' most viable cathode materials. Electrolyte breakdown, Mn dissolution, and rapid cathode-electrolyte interface (CEI) degradation in lithium-ion cells are exacerbated by the high operating voltage of LNMO. Consequently, the long-term cycling of LNMO is hampered by such adverse side effects, making the commercialization of such a battery impractical. Here, we document the enhancement in the electrochemical performance of LNMO by surface modification utilizing a combination of Al 2 O 3 coating and Graphene enveloping employing a facile wet synthesis technique. The presence of highly crystalline spherical secondary microspheres consisting of primary nanoparticles of disordered LiNi 0.5 Mn 1.5 O 4 , the surface modification with Al 2 O 3 , and the subsequent graphene wrapping were all confirmed by structural and surface analysis techniques. The fabricated cells containing the enhanced cathode material (LNMO-Al-GO) were cycled at a C/10 rate for 100 cycles in a voltage window of 3.5–4.9 V, providing a specific discharge capacity of 134.7 ± 3.8 mAhg−1. Delivering a capacity retention of 97.7 ± 3.9% compared to the unmodified LNMO sample (84.7 ± 5.3%). Ex-situ XRD, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) investigations reveal that the alumina coating protects the cathode by acting as a hydrogen fluoride (H.F.) scavenger and minimizes unfavorable phase formations at the CEI, inhibiting Mn3+ dissolution and enhancing cyclability. Solid waste-based lightweight glass ceramics aroused a great deal of attention with the introduction of green building materials. This material demonstrated high performance while alleviating the pressure of waste accumulation. Lightweight glass ceramic was fabricated from phosphorus tailings and coal gangue as raw materials in this work. The effects of phosphorus tailing ratios (50 wt.% - 100 wt.%) and heat-treatment temperatures (1130 °C – 1170 °C) on the pore morphology, properties and toxicity evaluation of lightweight glass ceramics were investigated. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), and Thermogravimetric mass spectrometry (TG-MS) tests were performed to characterize the sintering behavior of lightweight glass ceramics. The research found that Fe 2 O 3 in the phosphorus tailings and C and FeS 2 within the coal gangue achieve in-situ foaming by creating the gas at elevated temperatures. Results revealed that increasing the proportion of phosphorus tailings facilitated the generation of the molten glassy phase, which favored the formation of bubbles and the expansion of pores. The average pore size of lightweight glass ceramics enlarged from 15.33 μm to 75.02 μm upon increasing the amount of phosphorus tailings from 50 wt.% to 100 wt.%. Increasing the amount of the glassy phase could be achieved by adjusting the heat-treatment temperature. This not only formed a protective film preventing water penetration into the interior of the lightweight glass ceramics but also effectively protected them from corrosion by acidic and alkaline solutions. The water absorption dropped dramatically from 16.44 % to 3.63 % and the corrosion resistance was greater than 98 % when the temperature rose from 1130 °C to 1170 °C. From the toxicity evaluation, the leaching toxicity of Cr, Cu, Pb and Zn in lightweight glass ceramics was 4 orders of magnitude below the limiting value and an extremely low potential ecological risk index (RI = 3.32) was obtained. The optimal preparation parameters were phosphorus tailings addition of 80 wt.% and a heat-treatment temperature of 1160 °C. The corresponding porosity, bulk density, compressive strength, water absorption, acid resistance and alkali resistance were 51.29 %, 1.38 g/cm3, 10.62 MPa, 4.81 %, 98.63 % and 99.96 %. Although several force application concepts are known that can be used to deform shape memory polymers (SMPs) within the scope of programming, controlled deformation is challenging in the case of samples with a cylinder-like shape, which need to be homogeneously compressed starting from the lateral surface. To solve this problem, this contribution follows a material approach that takes advantage of four-dimensional (4D) printing. Fused filament fabrication (FFF) was used as an additive manufacturing (AM) technique to produce a thermoresponsive tool in a cylindrical shape from a polyether urethane (PEU) having a glass transition temperature (Tg) close to 55 °C, as determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Once it was 4D-printed, a sample of laser cut polyester urethane urea (PEUU) foam with a cylindrical wall was placed inside of it. Subsequent heating to 75 °C and keeping that temperature constant for 15 min resulted in the compression of the foam, because the internal stresses of the PEU were transferred to the PEUU, whose soft segments were completely molten at 65 °C as verified by DSC. Upon cooling to −15 °C and thus below the offset temperature of the soft segment crystallization transition of the PEUU, the foam was fixed in its new shape. After 900 days of storage at temperatures close to 23 °C, the foam recovered its original shape upon reheating to 75 °C. In another experiment, a 4D-printed cylinder was put into hibernation for 900 days before its thermoresponsiveness was investigated. In the future, 4D-printed tools may be produced in many geometries, which fit well to the shapes of the SMPs to be programmed. Although the mesomorphic phase as an intermediate state has been introduced to understand polymer crystallization, the understanding of the mesomorphic phase is far from complete. Here, the effect of chain mobility on the mesophase structuring in melt-quenched poly(ʟ-lactide) (PLLA) treated in low-pressure CO2 at 1.6–2.0 MPa and 0 °C was investigated using infrared (IR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The IR and AFM results demonstrated that the final degree of order and the kinetics of structural evolution during the CO2-induced mesophase formation were critically dependent on the CO2 pressure. This was attributed to the distinct dynamics of conformational evolution (gg to gt conformer transition) due to the different CO2 pressures. The thermal behavior from the DSC results showed that CO2 pressure dominated both the scale and dynamics of the chain motion of PLLA. At a lower CO2 pressure of 1.6 MPa, smaller-scale segmental motion was not replaced by the larger-scale cooperative motion that occurred at a relatively higher CO2 pressure of 2 MPa, which was favorable for faster mesophase formation. Consequently, by inhibiting direct crystallization under limited mobility conditions, it was demonstrated that different chain mobility controlled by CO2 pressure and thus CO2 solubility impacted the dynamics of the mesophase formation of PLLA. Nosocomial infections represent a major threat within healthcare systems worldwide, underscoring the critical need for materials with antimicrobial properties. This study presents the development of polyurethane foam embedded with silver nanoparticles (PUF/AgNPs) using a rapid, eco-friendly, in situ radiochemical synthesis method. The nanocomposites were characterized by UV–vis and FTIR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray technique (SEM/EDX), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), tensile and compression strengths, antimicrobial activity, and foam toxicity tests. The resulting PUF/AgNPs demonstrated prolonged stability (over 12 months) and good dispersion of AgNPs. Also, the samples presented higher levels of hardness compared to samples without AgNPs (deformation of 1682 µm for V1 vs. 4307 µm for V0, under a 5 N force), tensile and compression strength of 1.80 MPa and 0.34 Mpa, respectively. Importantly, they exhibited potent antimicrobial activity against a broad range of bacteria (including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Enterococcus faecalis) and a fungal mixture (no fungal growth on the sample surface was observed after 28 days of exposure). Furthermore, these materials were non-toxic to human keratinocytes, which kept their specific morphology after 24 h of incubation, highlighting their potential for safe use in biomedical applications. We envision promising applications for PUF/AgNPs in hospital bed mattresses and antimicrobial mats, offering a practical strategy to reduce nosocomial infections and enhance patient safety within healthcare facilities. In this study, the objective was to optimize energy consumption in the fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing process via a detailed analysis of printing parameters. By utilizing thermal analysis techniques, this research aimed to identify lower printing temperatures that could lead to reduced energy usage. Experimental analysis was conducted using a three-level L9 Taguchi orthogonal array, which involved a systematic combination of different extruder temperatures and cooling fan capacities. Furthermore, the research incorporated differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods to analyze the thermal properties and crystallinity of the 3D-printed specimens. The results indicated that temperature was a key factor affecting crystallinity, with samples printed at 190 °C and 60% fan capacity showing the highest mean values. By conducting a multi-objective desirability analysis, the optimal conditions for maximizing ultimate tensile strength (UTS), tensile modulus, and elongation at break while minimizing energy consumption for PLA 3D-printed samples were determined to be a temperature of 180 °C and a fan speed of 80%. A plantain pseudostem was harvested and processed on the same day. The process began with manually separating the sheaths (80.85%) and the core (19.14%). The sheaths were subjected to a mechanical shredding process using paddles, extracting 2.20% of lignocellulosic fibers and 2.12% of sap, compared to the fresh weight of the sheaths. The fibers were washed, dried, combed, and spun in their native state and subjected to a steam explosion treatment, while the sap was subjected to filtration and evaporation. In the case of the core, it was subjected to manual cutting, drying, grinding, and sieving to separate 12.81% of the starch and 6.39% of the short lignocellulosic fibers, compared to the fresh weight of the core. The surface modification method using steam explosion succeeded in removing a low proportion of hemicellulose and lignin in the fibers coming from the shims, according to what was shown by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), achieving increased σmax and ε from the tensile test and greater thermal stability compared to its native state. The sap presented hygroscopic behavior by FT-IR and the highest thermal stability from TGA, while the starch from the core presented the lowest hygroscopic character and thermal stability. Although the pseudostem supplied two types of fibers, lower lignin content was identified in those from the core. Finally, the yarns were elaborated by using the fibers of the sheaths in their native and steam-exploded states, identifying differences in the processing and their respective physical and mechanical properties. Sodium hyaluronate (HA) is a natural polysaccharide. This biopolymer occurs in many tissues of living organisms. The regenerating, nourishing, and moisturizing properties as well as the rheological properties of HA enable its application in the pharmaceutical industry as a carrier of medicinal substances. The aim of this work was to assess the release of naproxen sodium (Nap) in the presence of lidocaine hydrochloride (Lid) from the biopolymer-based hydrogels and to determine the respective kinetic parameters of this process. The possible interaction between the HA polysaccharide carrier and the selected drugs was also investigated. Three hydrogels containing Nap and Lid with different concentrations of the biopolymer were prepared. The release of Nap was studied by employing USP apparatus 5. The infrared study and differential scanning calorimetry analysis of physical mixtures and dried formulations were performed. The highest amount of Nap was released from the formulation with the lowest concentration of the biopolymer. The most representative kinetic model that described the dissolution of Nap was obtained through the Korsmeyer–Peppas equation. The release rate constants were in the range of 1.0 ± 0.1 × 10−2 min−n–1.7 ± 0.1 × 10−2 min−n. Lid did not influence the dissolution of Nap from the formulations tested; however, in the desiccated samples of assessed formulations, the interaction between the polysaccharide and both drugs was observed. The phase equilibrium conditions of methane hydrate in kaolinite suspension with the addition of glycine were similar to those in glycine solution. The inhibitory effect of calcium montmorillonite on the phase equilibrium condition of methane hydrate intensified with the addition of glycine. Furthermore, density functional theory simulations indicated that glycine significantly reduced the binding energy between montmorillonite layers and Ca2+, potentially mitigating the inhibitory effect of Ca2+ on methane hydrate formation under suitable glycine concentrations. The diverse equilibrium conditions of methane hydrate, influenced by the types of clay minerals, salt ions, and organic matters, may play a critical role in the formation and occurrence of natural gas hydrates in marine environments, warranting exploration in future studies. In this research, we produced ochre/yellow pigments of YIn 0.9 Fe 0.1 O 3 , combined with ZnO pigments, through a citrate-assisted sol-gel approach. We investigated the impact of varying ZnO addition methods (incorporated into the sol-gel bath and physically mixed with YIn 0.9 Fe 0.1 O 3 pigments) on their color properties, near-infrared (NIR) reflectance and photocatalytic activity. The effect of the different ZnO addition methods was investigated on pprecursors and final calcined pigments through X-ray diffraction (XRD), Vis-NIR reflectance, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and thermal analyses such as thermogravimetry (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The synthesized nanocomposites were evaluated for their photocatalytic characteristics by examining the degradation of 4-Nitrophenol (4-NP) when exposed to UV radiation. The potential environmental applications of the pigments were investigated not only for direct pollutant degradation but also in terms of energetic sustainability. In fact, the developed pigments can be employed as passive cooling materials to mitigate the temperature of buildings, thus dramatically reducing energy consumption. For this reason, the pigments were embedded into a polymeric binder and coated onto roofing aluminum sheets. The obtained coatings were investigated in terms of NIR reflectance and heat adsorption. The photocatalytic ability of the coatings was assessed by the degradation of 4-NP and methylene blue (MB) under xenon arc lamp. L-ascorbic acid (AA), a potent antioxidant, is commonly used topically in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic fields. However, the incorporation of AA into topical formulations is difficult because of its highly unstable nature and relatively poor skin permeability. In this study, we propose an alternative strategy for improving the solubility and topical delivery of AA through its conversion to a therapeutic deep eutectic system (THEDES). AA and betaine (Bet)-based THEDESs were prepared at certain molar ratios and characterized using polarized optical microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. Solubility tests showed that AA in the form of THEDES was readily soluble in various polyols (glycerin, 1,3-butylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, and 1,3-propanediol) at a high concentration (approximately 40%). Furthermore, compared to AA alone or the physical mixture of AA and Bet, AA-based THEDES significantly enhanced AA delivery through porcine skin. In an in vivo human study, THEDES-containing serum reduced the markers of aging and induced an even skin tone. These findings indicate the utility of AA and Bet-based THEDES as novel transdermal delivery systems for AA. Furthermore, our approach also showed good extension to developing gluconolactone, a well-known natural antioxidant, and Bet-based THEDES, showing potential application in transdermal delivery systems. Hydrogels consist of a network of highly porous polymeric chains with the potential for use as a wound dressing. Propolis is a natural product with several biological properties including anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant activities. This study was aimed at synthesizing and characterizing a polyacrylamide/methylcellulose hydrogel containing propolis as an active ingredient, to serve as a wound dressing alternative, for the treatment of skin lesions. The hydrogels were prepared using free radical polymerization, and were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, swelling capacity, mechanical and rheological properties, UV-Vis spectroscopy, antioxidant activity by the DPPH, ABTS and FRAP assays and biocompatibility determined in Vero cells and J774 macrophages by the MTT assay. Hydrogels showed a porous and foliaceous structure with a well-defined network, a good ability to absorb water and aqueous solutions simulating body fluids as well as desirable mechanical properties and pseudoplastic behavior. In hydrogels containing 1.0 and 2.5% propolis, the contents of total polyphenols were 24.74 ± 1.71 mg GAE/g and 32.10 ± 1.01 mg GAE/g and those of total flavonoids 8.01 ± 0.99 mg QE/g and 13.81 ± 0.71 mg QE/g, respectively, in addition to good antioxidant activity determined with all three methods used. Therefore, hydrogels containing propolis extract, may serve as a promising alternative wound dressing for the treatment of skin lesions, due to their anti-oxidant properties, low cost and availability. Methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(L-lactide) (MPEG-b-PLLA) has a wide range of applications in pharmaceuticals and biology, and its structure and morphology have been thoroughly studied. In the experiment, we synthesized MPEG-b-PLLA with different block lengths using the principle of ring-opening polymerization by controlling the amount of lactic acid added. The thermodynamic properties of copolymers and the crystallization properties of blends were studied separately. The crystallization kinetics of PDLA/MPEG-b-PLA and PLLA/MPEG-b-PLA composite films were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results indicate that the crystallization kinetics of composite films are closely related to the amount of block addition. The crystallinity of the sample first increases and then decreases with an increase in MPEG-b-PLLA content. These results were also confirmed in polarized optical microscope (POM) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) tests. In order to ascertain the mechanical properties and fracture performance of AA6016 aluminum sheets after cold forming and heat treatment processes, uniaxial tensile tests and fracture tests were conducted under various pre-strain conditions and heat treatment parameters. The experimental outcomes demonstrated that pre-strain and heat treatment had significant impacts on both stress–strain curves and fracture properties. Pre-strain plays a predominant role in influencing the mechanical and fracture properties. The behavior of precipitation hardening under different pre-strains was investigated using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The results indicated that pre-strain accelerates the precipitation of the β″ strengthening phase, but excessive pre-strain can inhibit the heat treatment strengthening effect. To consider the influences of pre-strain and heat treatment, a constitutive model, as well as a predictive model for load–displacement curves, was established using a backpropagation (BP) neural network. An analysis of the number of hidden layers and neuron nodes in the network revealed that the accuracy of the model does not necessarily improve with an increase in the number of hidden layers and neuron nodes, and an excessive number might actually decrease the efficiency of the machine learning process. A familiar polyalcohol, 1,2-propanediol (12PDO), is among the simple alcoholic solvents with high solubility for lithium tetrafluoroborate (LiBF4), as well as a wide temperature range for liquids. The viscosity of 12PDO solutions containing LiBF4 was measured in the temperature range of 280‒340 K using a vibrational viscometer, and it exhibited non-Arrhenius behavior fitted with the Vogel–Fulcher–Tamman (VFT) equation, which is an empirical model for describing liquid dynamics. The viscosity (η) increased with the increasing mole fraction of LiBF4 (x), and the variation in η was found to be mainly controlled by the pre-exponential factor η0 in the VFT expression. The VFT-fitting parameters, the strength parameter (D), and ideal glass transition temperature (T0), which indicate the Arrhenius behavior and an ideal glass transition temperature, respectively, correlated with the thermal analysis results that were obtained via differential scanning calorimetry. With the increasing x, the value of D decreased rapidly for x < 0.20, whereas it remained approximately unchanged for x > 0.20. The concentration dependence of T0 also differed at approximately x = 0.20. The changes in D and T0 with x indicated that the intrinsic hydrogen-bonding networks between the solvent molecules were rapidly destroyed by the added ions at reduced salt concentrations, while such a structural breaking effect of the added ions weakened owing to ion associations at increased salt concentrations. The main theme of the paper was focussed on the preparation, structural, optical, and photoluminescence studuies of p(-n-decyloxy) benzoic acid (10OBA) liquid crystalline (LC) compounds with 1 wt.% dispersed ZnO nanoparticles (NPs). The prepared samples were subsequently characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical polarizing microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), UV-Visible spectroscopy, and photoluminescence (PL) studies. From the XRD, the diffraction peaks observed at 36.2, 42.5, 61.3, and 73.2° were well resolved, indicating the presence of ZnO NPs and the particle size was found to be 65 nm. SEM studies revealed the uniform dispersion and the presence of ZnO NPs in the samples. The textural images of different phases (nematic, smectic) of liquid crystalline compounds of 10OBA pure and 10OBA with 1 wt.% dispersed ZnO NPs were observed through the POM with reduced temperature. From the DSC thermograms, the phase transition temperatures and the correponding enthalpy values were estimated. The bandgap reduces for 10OBA LC compound with the dispersion of 1 wt.% ZnO NPS and it is estimated as 3.25 eV compared with 4.25 eV for the undoped 10OBA LC compound. As a powerful imidazole antifungal drug, ketoconazole's low solubility (0.017 mg/mL), together with its odor and irritation, limited its clinical applications. The inclusion complex of ketoconazole with randomly methylated β-cyclodextrin was prepared by using an aqueous solution method after cyclodextrin selection through phase solubility studies, complexation methods, and condition selection through single factor and orthogonal strategies. The complex was confirmed by FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy), DSC (differential scanning calorimetry), TGA (thermogravimetric analysis), SEM (scanning electron microscope images), and NMR (Nuclear magnetic resonance) studies. Through complexation, the water solubility of ketoconazole in the complex was increased 17,000 times compared with that of ketoconazole alone, which is the best result so far for the ketoconazole water solubility study. In in vitro pharmacokinetic studies, ketoconazole in the complex can be 100% released in 75 min, and in in vivo pharmacokinetic studies in dogs, through the complexation, the Cmax was increased from 7.56 μg/mL to 13.58 µg/mL, and the AUC0~72 was increased from 22.69 μgh/mL to 50.19 μgh/mL, indicating that this ketoconazole complex can be used as a more efficient potential new anti-fungal drug. The reaction pathways and phase transitions during primary magnesium production via silicon reduction of CaO·MgO under vacuum conditions were examined using thermodynamic calculations, X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron probe microanalyzer scanning (EPMA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis. The findings suggest that the actual chemical reaction involves Si interacting with CaO in dolime to form CaSi 2 , which subsequently serves as a reducing agent to reduce MgO, resulting in magnesium vapor. Solid–solid reactions occur in pellets at temperatures below 1028 °C, whereas solid–liquid reactions take place above this temperature. The solid–liquid reaction notably enhances the reaction rate. In addition, the limited hydration reactivity of the slag from the silicothermic process is attributable to the formation of large MgO particles through the solid–liquid reaction. Synchrotron-radiation-based techniques are a powerful tool for the investigation of materials. In particular, the availability of highly brilliant sources has opened the possibility to develop techniques sensitive to dynamics at the atomic scale such as X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS). XPCS is particularly relevant in the study of glasses, which have been often investigated at the macroscopic scale by, for example, differential scanning calorimetry. Here, we show how to adapt a Flash calorimeter to combine XPCS and calorimetric scans. This setup paves the way to novel experiments requiring dynamical and thermodynamic information, ranging from the study of the crystallization kinetics to the study of the glass transition in systems that can be vitrified thanks to the high cooling rates reachable with an ultrafast calorimeter. Ca3(VO4)2 is a promising candidate for applications in ferroelectric, laser host, and optical materials owing to its unique whitlockite structure and excellent physicochemical properties. In this study, the Ca3(VO4)2 powder was fabricated via a conventional solid‐phase route in air, using V2O5 and CaO as precursors. The trigonal Ca3(VO4)2 belongs to the space group R3c, having unit cell parameters of a = 10.8074 Å, b = 10.8074 Å, and c = 37.98871 Å, respectively. Ca3(VO4)2 melts congruently at 1680 K, as determined from differential scanning calorimetry measurements of the thermal profile of the second heating test. Enthalpy changes in Ca3(VO4)2 were experimentally determined for the first time across temperatures between 573 and 1623 K by drop calorimetry. The temperature‐dependent molar heat capacity of Ca3(VO4)2 was calculated from the enthalpy changes at elevated temperatures. Thermodynamic properties (entropy, enthalpy, and Gibbs free energy changes) were also calculated. The thermodynamic properties measured in this study were further applied to evaluate the appropriate precursors for fabricating Ca3(VO4)2 via solid‐state calcination. The results strongly recommend the use of V2O5 and Ca(OH)2 precursors for preparing the Ca3(VO4)2 samples because of their thermodynamic advantages. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To elucidate the anticancer mechanism and molecular targets of the aqueous fraction from Cotinus coggygria leaf extract in A375 malignant melanoma cells. Methods: Aqueous ethanol extract from the leaves of C. coggygria was fractionated into the aqueous and chloroform fractions by solvent-solvent partition. A375 cells were treated with the aqueous fraction at various concentrations and incubated for 72 h. The effect of the aqueous fraction on programmed cell death by staining with Annexin V/Propidium iodide ias well as on cell viability and adhesion through labeling with fluorescein diacetate were determined under fluorescence microscopy. In addition, the clonogenicity assessment, comet assay evaluation of genotoxic properties, characterization of thermodynamic behavior of cells by differential scanning calorimetry, and quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) on the expression of genes involved in processes of apoptosis and cell cycle control were determined. Results: The number of viable adherent cells was reduced by 38.00 and 85.06 % at 20 and 80 µg/mL, respectively compared to untreated cells. In addition, a significant, dose-dependent reduction in the clonogenicity of melanoma cells was observed, culminating in an almost complete inhibition of cancer cells colony-forming ability at 40 and 60 µg/mL of the fraction. Treatment with the fraction increased comets of Classes 3 and 4 to 35 %, while comets of Class 5, which corresponds to the highest level of DNA fragmentation, increased to 2.25 %. Also, the gene damage index (GDI) was highest (1.2) at the concentration of 40 µg/mL. Furthermore, the expression levels of BAX, CASP8 and CDKN1A were upregulated and MYC expression decreased after treatment with the aqueous fraction. Conclusion: Cotinus coggygria possesses significant in vitro anti-melanoma potential. Future studies will be focused on the in vivo assessment of its therapeutic qualities in experimental animals. Using Camellia oleifera shell as raw materials to preparative SiC ceramics by warm‐press forming and sintering is proposed in this paper. Warm‐press forming before preparing for the C. oleifera shell‐based SiC ceramics is beneficial to obtain the internal uniform and suitable pore structure of the cylindrical sample. Thermogravimetric analysis with differential scanning calorimetry was applied to analyze the pyrolysis behavior of C. oleiefra shell and phenolic resin. The scanning electron microscope and X‐ray diffraction were used to investigate the properties of C. oleifera shell‐based SiC ceramics. Then, the response surface method was applied to establish a multivariate prediction model based on the process parameters of warm‐press forming. And the regression equations of porosity and bending strength of COS‐SiC are obtained. The result demonstrated that the predicted and experimental values can be in good agreement for the model. By comparing the F‐value, it is found that the forming temperature and pressure during the process of warm‐press forming have a more significant influence on the porosity and bending strength of SiC ceramics. In this work, effect of varying lithium perchlorate (LiClO4) salt concentration in polymer gel electrolytes (PGE) containing heat resistant polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), and succinonitrile (SN) is investigated via electrochemical and physical properties. The electrolyte specimen with high LiClO4 salt concentration of 1.5 M supports maximum ionic conductivity of 4.9 × 10–5 S cm−1 and electrochemical stability window of ~ 4 V. The ion-transport parameters evaluated from the tangent loss studies confirms that the optimized electrolyte possesses diffusivity (D) of 4.52 × 10–2, mobility (μ) of 1.746 cm2 V−1 s−1, number of charge carriers (N) of 1.78 × 1014 cm−3 and Nµ of 3.106 × 1014 cm−1 V−1 s−1. The dielectric constant studies show that the optimized electrolyte possesses maximum dielectric constant and lower value of modulus towards the high frequency region. The thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry studies confirms that the prepared electrolytes offer weight loss of < 9% up to 373 K and maintains the gel phase up to 570 K, respectively. X-ray diffraction suggest that the PGE system becomes more amorphous with progressive addition of LiClO4 up to 1.5 M, while the Fourier transform Infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy study reveal the salt-polymer interactions. Novel nonterminal liquid crystalline epoxy resin has been synthesized, and its structure and nature have been determined via nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and polarized optical microscopy (POM). Then, it was cured with the use of 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane (4,4'-DDM). The curing process has been investigated via differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) methods. Polymerization has been conducted with (1.2 T) and without the presence of a strong magnetic field. The properties of the obtained polymers have been described using DSC, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dielectric spectroscopy (DS) and X-ray scattering studies (WAXS/SAXS). It has been proved that the magnetic field induces molecular ordering and increases the glass transition temperature (Tg) by over 20 °C. The obtained ordered polymers are thermally stable up to over 300 °C, undergo vitrification at slightly elevated temperature (37.5 °C), and their electrical conductivity rises significantly at the transition to an elastic state, which, among other possibilities, makes them a proper candidate for a smart, lightweight polymers with tuneable properties by a subtle temperature rise and possibility of tailoring its structure by a magnetic field. Keratin extracted (KE) from chicken feathers was used for the production of composite films comprising poly(e-caprolactone) (PCL) and keratin (PCL/KE films). The process involved the extraction of keratin from chicken feathers using a 0.1 M NaOH solution, followed by characterization via sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). The PCL was synthesized through the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of e-caprolactone (ε-CL) with Sn(Oct)2 as a catalyst. Films were prepared via solvent casting, including pure PCL films and those enriched with different weight percentages of KE (10%, 15%, 25%, and 30%). The films were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM analysis revealed a more uniform incorporation of KE within the PCL matrix in the case of the 15% keratin-enriched film (PCL/KE15) as compared to other keratin percentages. The thermal analysis showed a positive influence of keratin on the thermal stability of the films. Keratinocytes viability and proliferation tests on the PCL/KE15 film demonstrated compatibility with cells. This study addresses the challenge of recycling adhesive bonds, as their disassembly is irreversible and damages the substrates. It explores the use of thermally expandable particles (TEPs), which, when heated, expand and weaken the bond. The magnetization of TEPs allows us to control their distribution using a magnetic field. The work aims to obtain magnetized TEPs, study their influence on resin curing, mechanical performance, and durability, test their mobility in graded bonds, and analyze the temperature-induced debonding process. TEPs are characterized using various techniques, including differential scanning calorimetry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and scanning electron microscopy. Additionally, the impact of 25 wt.% TEPs on epoxy resin curing is examined using the Kamal model. Adhesion and disassembly assessments were conducted through tensile shear tests using single-lap-joint specimens, while the bond durability was determined via wedge testing. It was found that magnetization reduces the debonding time, though it decreases shear strength while increasing bond durability. The crack formation energy is higher with magnetic TEPs, and total crack length is lower in long-term wedge tests. Once debonded, the substrates are sanded and reused as raw material.
