The aim of this study is to develop a rapid and accurate method for simultaneous analysis of multi-residue pesticides and conduct pesticide monitoring in agricultural products produced by the production and distribution stage in Korea. The representative agricultural products were selected as brown rice, soybean, potato, mandarin, and green pepper and developed using gas chromatography with tandem mass (GC-MS/MS) for the analysis of 272 pesticide residues. The experimental samples were extracted by the QuEChERS-EN method and then cleaned up by using d-SPE, including MgSO4 and primary secondary amine (PSA) sorbents. The established method was validated in accordance with Codex CAC-GL/40, and the limit of quantitation (LOQ) was determined to be 0.01 mg/kg. A total of 243 pesticides satisfied the guidelines in five samples at three levels with values of 60 to 120% (recovery) and ≤45% (coefficient of variation, CV). The remaining 29 pesticides did not satisfy the guidelines, and these pesticides are expected to be used as a screening method for the routine inspection of agricultural products. As a result of analyzing 223 agricultural products in South Korea by applying the simultaneous analysis method, none of the detected levels in the samples exceeded the standard values based on maximum residue limits (MRLs). The developed method in this study will be used to inspect residual pesticides in agricultural products, and it is anticipated to contribute to the distribution of safe agricultural products to consumers. Featured Application: Monitoring of residual pesticides in the environment is necessary to predict the impact of pesticide residue on ecosystems and human health. Pesticides have been used to control pests in agricultural fields and storage systems before circulating agricultural products to markets. A tandem mass spectrometry, equipped with gas chromatographic separation (GC–MS/MS) or ultra-performance liquid chromatographic separation (LC–MS/MS), was used to monitor residual pesticides in Korean rice paddy soils. Selective multiple reaction monitoring was employed during the analyses to achieve multiresidue pesticide analysis using GC–MS/MS and LC–MS/MS of 342 pesticides. In this study, QuEChERS extraction was employed with a dSPE clean-up to establish an effective pretreatment process. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were set up for all pesticides, and method validation was performed for linearity and recovery at levels of 10 and 50 mg kg−1 in the untreated soil sample. All pesticides satisfied the acceptable recovery range of 70–120%, within less than 20% RSD values, except for ametoctradin and gibberellic acid. In the paddy soil analyses, tricyclazole was the most frequently detectable pesticide, followed by oxadiazon, endosulfan, and chlorantraniliprole. Continuous monitoring of residual pesticides in paddy soils should be conducted due to the translocation of some systemic pesticides from soils to crop plants, and the impact of residual pesticides on the environment. An effective analytical method was optimized for residues including chlorpyrifos–methyl, deltamethrin, fenoxanil, thiobencarb and fludioxonil in mealworms, the larval form of Tenebrio molitor. They are listed for pest control during wheat cultivation and can be found in wheat-bran feed for growing mealworms in South Korea. Analytes were extracted using acetonitrile and salt packet. Four clean-up methods ((1) MgSO4 + 25 mg PSA + 25 mg C18; (2) MgSO4 + 50 mg PSA + 50 mg C18; (3) EMR-lipidTM tube; and (4) 10 mL n-hexane) were investigated and the method (1) was selected due to its robustness. Low-temperature precipitation of fat and proteins improved the recoveries. Recoveries from the Method (1) were satisfying with 70–120% with <20% relative SD at a spiking level of 0.01 mg/kg. With the simultaneous sample preparation, fenoxanil, thiobencarb and fludioxonil were analyzed by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) and chlorpyrifos–methyl and deltamethrin by gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (GC–MS/MS). Quantification limits for LC–MS/MS and GC–MS/MS were 0.5 and 2.5 μg/L, respectively. No pesticides of interest were detected in 30 real samples collected across the nation. However, the data can be provided for establishing maximum residue limits for the pesticides in mealworms in response to the positive list system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
