Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between executive remuneration and the economic-financial and socio-environmental performance of publicly traded Brazilian companies. Methodology: The study sample comprises companies in the Brazil Index 50 (IBrX-50), portfolio from May to August 2020. After exclusions, the final survey sample is composed of 34 companies, with a total of 68 observations and the period of analysis was the years 2018 and 2019. Data were collected manually in the Reference Form, item 13 and on the website of each company. For data analysis, statistical techniques were used, such as descriptive, correlations and multiple linear regressions. Results: For model 1, the Return on Equity (ROE) and Business Sustainability Index (ISE) variables showed significant and negative relationships with the RTM, indicating that the higher the ROE of the companies, the lower the Average Total Compensation (RTM). Also, the variable ENVID showed a significant and positive relationship, where the higher the company's Total Debt (ENDIV), the higher the RTM. For model 2 of Fixed Compensation (RF), the ROE also presented a significant and negative relationship. The Earnings per Share (LPA) and ENDIV variables showed a significant and positive relationship, indicating that higher values in these variables will increase the RF given to executives. Contributions of the Study: This study contributes to the literature on compensation and performance by adding social and environmental variables to the theoretical and practical framework through the interconnection of executive compensation. Thus, it was possible to understand new relationships between traditional economic-financial and socio-environmental factors, while good communication and good governance practices with stakeholders present positive results for the organization. The aim of this article is to analyze the economic and financial performance of Slovenian enterprises, as a European Union (EU) member state case study. A favorable economic and financial performance is crucial for long-term sustainable enterprise growth and survival. Eight economic and financial performance indicators are used to evaluate the sustainability in the growth of enterprises: seven of them are financial indicators--assets, revenues from sales, equity, net profits, operating efficiency, return on equity, and value added per employee--while the eighth variable is the economic indicator for the number of employees. A distinction is made between enterprises that did and that did not receive subsidies from national and EU funds. Three enterprise-level data sources are combined in the empirical analysis: balance sheet data from enterprise accounts, own surveys data, and government data on public subsidies to enterprises. The mean values and standard deviations of economic and financial indicators based on balance sheet data for the years in two financial periods are estimated. The summary statistics for economic and financial indicators and correlation analysis are conducted and the results of the economic and financial indicators are compared using the parametric paired sample two-tailed t-test that allows comparison between the enterprises in the two financial periods. An increase in the economic and financial indicators is investigated by comparing the enterprises that did receive subsidies with the enterprises that did not receive subsidies in the two financial periods. The empirical results confirm that the value added per employee is the only financial indicator where a positive link is found between the financial indicator and subsidies. The results suggest that subsidies can be important for cash flow into enterprises, but entrepreneurial activities are crucial for favorable economic and financial performance and long-term sustainable growth in a competitive market environment. Graphene coatings, which have many applications in electronics and biomedical, show high performance even when applied at a few nanometers thickness, and have also been applied in solar systems. When graphene is applied to the glass surface of photovoltaic (PV) modules, they result in more energy recovery and lower cleaning service fees due to their features such as high permeability, hydrophobic self-cleaning, and low dust retention. In this study, it was determined how much energy gain and CO2 emission reduction could be achieved as a result of graphene-coating on PV modules compared to standard modules, and if PV modules are applied under Turkish conditions, the investment costs, payback period, and return on investment to the user after the payback period was determined. As a result of the calculations, although the initial investment cost of graphene coating is 0.78 %, more than the standard modules, it is concluded that it offers a lower payback period and high return on investment due to the amount of energy it produces, its ability to self-clean, and low dust retention. This research seeks to analyze the influence of the capital structure on the performance of public companies in the Brazilian capital market in different economic cycles. To achieve the objective, the sample comprises 232 companies that traded shares in B3 in the period from 2011 to 2019, when considering annual periods. For data analysis, we opted for panel data regression. With regard to descriptive statistics, it is pointed out that, on average, corporate debt corresponds to 54.9%. With regard to multivariate analysis, the results suggest that in a macroeconomic environment of expansion, indebtedness does not imply the return on equity. However, in a macroeconomic environment of retraction, the increase in indebtedness implies a decrease in the return on equity. Thus, the findings present theoretical contributions, as they advance in the literature because they consider the macroeconomic environment, not addressed in previous studies. In addition, as practical contributions, the results can assist investors, creditors and managers by demonstrating that the economic cycle in which the company operates can influence its indebtedness and, consequently, its performance. The article is focused on verification of the presumption of poor financial management in companies operating in the building sector. Many authors have written about a financial situation of enterprises in the building sector, especially after the economic crisis in the year 2008, when some of them claim and their results confirm that the main reason of bankruptcy of these companies was not the economic crisis but mainly poor financial management. Our results, which were obtained especially by the method of financial analysis and further by a mathematical and statistical method, support this statement. Within the mathematical and statistical methods, there was return on equity used as an explanatory variable, mainly because all variants of the Altman Z-Score are based on the calculation of ratio indicators, which do not include this type of return. Based on the conducted tests it is possible to state that it is highly desirable for the monitored enterprises in the building industry to reach positive values of return on equity. We examined data on fuel consumption and costs for the years 1950 through 2013, along with economic and population data, to determine the percent of U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) spent each year on fuels, including fossil fuels and nuclear ore, and the growth of the economy. We found that these variables are inversely correlated. This suggests that the availability and cost of energy is a significant determinant of economic performance. We believe this relation is consistent with analyses based on the energy return on investment (EROI) concept in that increasingly scarce, and hence expensive, fuels are a drag on economic growth. The best-fitting linear equation relating the percent of GDP (energy cost share) and year-over-year (YoY) GDP change variables suggests that a threshold exists in the vicinity of 4%; if the percent of GDP spent on fuels is greater than this, poorer economic performance has been likely. Currently, about 5% of GDP is spent on fuels; most of this is for liquids. Continued weak economic performance appears likely unless improvements in energy efficiency, on the order of a factor of 3 for liquid fuels, and/or a more rapid adoption of renewable or nuclear energy sources can be achieved, provided that the EROI of these new sources proves to be sufficiently high.
