Paper played a crucial role in the history of the development of human society. Even in current times in the modern world, with Tablet, eBook readers and smart phones, the use of paper is still unavoidable. The wood needed for the production of the paper is provided by cutting down trees; hence, paper production has a cost to the environment. Recently, new technology has been developed which uses limestone instead of wood as the main material for paper production. This technology is environmentally friendly compared to the traditional paper-making technology. Choosing a suitable location for construction of such paper production plant based on different factors affecting paper quality is of great importance. To choose the desired location of such a plant, it is proposed to use a combination of Monte Carlo, and Analytical Hierarchic Process approaches. In this way, in the search area, there is a distribution of rates for each pixel instead of a single rate which allows determining the appropriate location for different confidence levels. The proposed method has been applied on Bijar, one of the cites of Kurdistan province in Iran, and a suitable location of the paper production plant is highlighted for various levels of confidence.

The objective of this research is to design an approach for selecting appropriate solutions to efficiently and productively reduce environmental pollution and water, energy and raw material consumption in a recycled paper manufacturing facility, the paper mill in Latif, Iran. To reach this goal, we develop a decision-making model using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The proposed model provides a framework for cleaner production implementation specific to the paper industry. Pairwise comparisons of the results of designed questionnaires resulted in the hierarchy model being divided into five major groups: production modification; process change; preventive maintenance; renewal; and manpower resources.These five groups include 31 sub-criteria and seven alternatives. The results showed that process change yields the highest priority among the main criteria and that industrial automation and its technology level gives the highest priority among sub-criteria. Regarding the alternatives, reduction of environmental pollution is the most important solution for cleaner production in the industry. Also, product modification is the most sensitive criterion affecting the alternatives priority.

Thomas L. Saaty, a world-renowned scholar and our beloved Advisory Editor, passed away on August 14, 2017 at the age of 91. He has made many fundamental contributions to operations research, analytics, business and mathematics. Despite his heavy illness for 14 months, as passionate about science, he has also enthusiastically published his research. We review his final works published in 2017 and 2018. We are also honored to reveal and publish his final statements on neural firing and synthesis in making comparisons & life satisfaction, respectively, in his final two papers; the previous one submitted by him just before his passing and the other one submitted by his co-authors after his death to European Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics (EJPAM). We just would like to remember and honor Saaty's memory by publishing his final papers at EJPAM and this humble remarks dedicated to the memory of Thomas L. In the last 30 years, several distinguished researchers have proposed and discussed different fuzzy versions of well-known Saaty's Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The paper recently published by K. Zhü in the European Journal of Operational Research heavily criticizes the fuzzy approaches to AHP, claiming the fallacy of all of them. Therefore, it seems to be necessary to clarify whether the criticisms are well-founded or not. Due to increasing environmental regulation and customers' demand for environmentally friendly products, organizations have been required to adopt sustainable manufacturing practices by implementing clean technology (Cleantec) to manufacture green products. By adopting environmental practices, organizations can also achieve qualitative and quantitative benefits that help them remain competitive in the market while meeting governmental environmental policies, such as lowering energy and the cost of materials. The significant number of articles addressing sustainability in manufacturing published in the past few years attests to the importance of the topic. However, not many studies have been developed to understand the decision-making process in sustainable manufacturing. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to conduct a systematic literature review on the application of multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) methods in sustainable manufacturing. A total of 158 papers, published between 2009 and 2018, met the criteria set in the research methodology. The 158 papers were then analyzed and classified into seven categories: (i) SM domain, (ii) activity within the organization, (iii) decision goals, (iv) decision-makers involved (group or individual), (v) uncertain data, (vi) SM aspects (social, environmental, and economic), and (vii) MADM methods. Among the results, we identified that AHP is the most applied MADM method and, regarding the activities of the organization, MADM methods have been the most frequently applied to strategy management and supply chain. We also identified a tendency to consider uncertain and imprecise data in the decision-making process. Another result is that all the three domains — economic, environmental and social — were considered in most of the papers, followed by the combination of the economic and environmental perspectives. Sustainable development is essential for the survival of the planet. The massive increase in GHG emissions due to human activities has put the world in unrest. The Indian construction industry is emerging and evolving at a rapid rate and has understood the grave situation, and for saving the environment has come up with innovative solutions for developing green buildings or sustainable construction. In this paper, the two different (the GRIHA Rating System and the IGBC Green New Building Rating System) of India were studied. The sample size was 40 construction professionals working on green building projects. An interview schedule was used for data collection. The data was subjected to a suitable analysis and the AHP method was applied. Based on the research findings, strategies to go green has been suggested for the IGBC and GRIHA rating system which may serve as a ready reckoner for enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the construction management process. Sustainable rural development, encompassing economic growth, social equity, and environmental protection, is a multifaceted concept with inherent complexities. Achieving it often involves navigating trade-offs between these three pillars. To effectively allocate resources and achieve convergent development in the EU, measuring rural sustainability at the regional level is crucial. The multicriteria approach addresses this challenge by considering the diverse perspectives of stakeholders involved in rural development. This paper presents a model for measuring sustainable rural development at the NUTS 3 level in Croatia, utilizing the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) within a multi-criteria analysis framework. Based on a survey of rural development stakeholders, 15 indicators were selected, weighted, and incorporated into the model. The survey revealed that economic indicators received the highest weight (0.415), followed by social (0.309) and environmental (0.275) considerations. This model offers a valuable foundation for local and regional decision-makers to develop strategies and implement actions that promote sustainable development in rural areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Road accidents generate substantial personal and national losses. Road accidents reduce victims' and their families' productivity, which slows the nation's economic growth. The victim or victim's heir must be compensated for the mishap's losses. It is important to understand traffic accident victims' concerns before calculating and rewarding a suitable compensation. This study examines traffic accident victims' issues. In this paper, the interviews were conducted in two phases: a pilot survey of seven experts and 38 victims/relatives of victims, based on their opinions, the questionnaire was revised, and the final interviews were conducted in the second phase, which included 126 road accident victims and 27 expert interviews. This paper summarises the results of the second phase along with its statistical interpretations. This paper also emphasises traffic accident victims' debilitation and daily issues. Government and local authorities often announce compensation, although they rarely consider a victim's socioeconomic situation. The arbitrarily set amount may provide immediate relief, but it ignores traffic accident victims' socio-demographics. Numerous countries are trying to find the best solution for conservation, restoration or reuse of the heritage buildings, preserving their cultural, historical, ethnic and spiritual values. The scientists, researchers and government are analysing the problems concerning with heritage building's, like seismic issues, energy saving, sustainability, structures, materials and adaptive reuse. Since, heritage buildings' reuse and preservation are characterized by multiple criteria, a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods are useful in finding rational solutions for the previously mentioned problems. The current paper aims to overview papers on the MCDM approaches application in regard to heritage buildings' reuse and preservation area. This study employs a bibliometric data analysis to explore state-of-the-art of the defined topic and an in-deep analysis -- to synthesize the knowledge domain and critically evaluate a thorough literature in the analysed topic. As a result, scientific maps were created to reveal the knowledge domain of MCDM approaches in heritage buildings' reuse and preservation. Finally, research gaps and future research directions are identified. Results of the analysis shows that till now MCDM approaches are not widely used in solving heritage buildings reuse and preservation issues. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and PROMETHEE have gained increasing attention in the field of construction management as techniques for the analysis of complex situations and as decision support for decision makers. However, these two methods in themselves or their potential applications to problems of construction management are not sufficiently defined in the existing literature. The environment of group decision-making bring even more challenges. This paper consolidates and critically discusses the current knowledge on the application of AHP and PROMETHEE methods in the light of the specifics of the construction industry. A systematic literature review was used to select the contributions indexed in the databases Scopus and Web of Science. The findings indicate that the studies deal with broad topics and different aspects in different phases of civil engineering projects. This paper provides a useful reference work for researchers and practitioners interested in the application of AHP and PROMEETHEE as tools for group decision-making in civil engineering. In this study, different types of antioxidants (AO) such as natural and synthetic AOs are mixed with mineral oil (MO) at various individual and grouping concentrations to enhance the life of transformers. Water content in oil, water content in paper, breakdown voltage, acidity, 2‐furaldehyde concentration, degree of polymerisation and tensile strength are the laboratory‐based ageing‐related performance characteristics considered in the proposed work to evaluate the degradation rate of MO samples. Multi‐criteria decision‐making methods such as analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) are used to identify the sample concentration which gives maximum performance while considering all the characteristic performance of the MO samples precisely. Two different methods are employed to assess the performance characteristics of the MO samples. In first method, AHP is employed for both priority weight calculation and ranking of MO samples. In second method, AHP is used for weight calculation and TOPSIS is used for ranking. From the experimental results, it is found that, the MO sample S5 yields better performance when compared with other samples. The construction industry plays a crucial role in contributing to the economy and developing sustainable infrastructures. However, it is known as one of the most dangerous industrial domains. Over the years, special attention has been paid to developing models for managing and planning construction safety. Many research studies have been carried out to analyze the root causes of fatal accidents in construction sites to develop models for preventing them and mitigating their consequences. Root cause identification and analysis are essential for effective risk mitigation. However, implementing mitigation activities is usually limited to the project's safety budget. The construction sector suffers from a lack of allocation of appropriate safety resources triggered by a dynamic and complex project environment. This study aims to address the gap in safety resource allocation through a comprehensive root cause analysis of construction work accidents. In this paper, we present a comprehensive review of work accident-related research, categorized according to the 5M model into five root factors: medium, mission, man, management, and machinery. A novel methodology for construction safety resource allocation is proposed to mitigate risks analyzed by the 5M model with the aid of advanced technological solutions. Safety resource allocation alternatives are formulated, and their priorities are established based on an analysis of structured criteria that integrate both risk and cost considerations. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is employed to select the optimal alternative for safety resource allocation, with the objective of effective risk mitigation. The proposed model underwent validation through two different case studies. The findings indicate that risk aversion is a critical factor in the optimal allocation of safety resources. Integrating deep learning methods for multi-element regression analysis poses a challenge in constructing safety evaluations for building construction. To address this challenge, this paper evaluates the integration of construction safety by quantitatively analyzing practitioners' information and on-site construction conditions. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method quantifies construction safety capabilities, considering four key aspects: operators' primary conditions, organizational personnel's working conditions, on-site management conditions, and analysis of unsafe behaviors. A comprehensive set of 19 secondary causal factors is constructed. Furthermore, a hybrid model based on bidirectional recurrent neural network (BiRNN) and bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) is developed for construction safety evaluation, enhancing the model's generalization ability by introducing the Dropout mechanism. Experimental results demonstrate that the fusion of BiRNN and BiLSTM methods outperforms traditional methods in construction safety evaluation, yielding mean squared error (MSE) and root mean squared error (RMSE) values of 0.48 and 0.69 and mean absolute error (MAE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) values of 0.54 and 3.36%, respectively. This study aimed to strengthen the security of autonomous vehicles by analyzing the current status of autonomous vehicle security, such as autonomous vehicle features, security threats, and compliance, and deriving security-level check items. Based on this, the relative importance could be obtained by applying it to the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) model. The results of the empirical analysis showed that the order of priority was the establishment/implementation of a cybersecurity management system, encryption, and risk assessment. The significance of this study is that by deriving security-level check items related to autonomous vehicles and verifying the research model, we can reduce cyber security accidents that can cause loss of life and improve the level of autonomous vehicle security management of related companies. Additionally, by applying AHP evaluated by security experts to the autonomous vehicle field for the first time, it will contribute to the market expansion of the autonomous vehicle industry, which is concerned with security. Furthermore, major automobile companies have to manage the security levels of numerous tier companies due to the nature of the industry. Therefore, if they perform a Quick Check (QC) considering the relative importance of the autonomous vehicle security-level check items presented in this paper, they will be able to effectively identify the security levels of tier companies early. To improve the safety level of pile foundation construction for offshore wind power, in this study, the risk indicators of pile foundation construction were evaluated using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and comprehensive evaluation methods. The pile foundation construction operation process for offshore wind power mainly includes four phases: preparation for construction, pile sinking, end of construction, and foundation scour protection construction. Pile foundation construction risk indicators are systematically identified as human factors, material factors, management factors, and environmental factors. The most important indicators for pile foundation construction for offshore wind power were evaluated using AHP and comprehensive evaluation methods, which included five indicators: piling equipment, protective equipment, special skills, safety awareness, and emergency management. The four more important indicators are workplace environment, lifting equipment, fire protection systems, and operations. According to the results of our evaluation of the pile foundation construction safety indicators presented herein, corresponding recommendations are made that consider four aspects—human factors, material factors, management factors, and environmental factors. The construction industry should focus on improving the safety measures related to aspects with greater risk indicators. The rapid growth of e-commerce has led to an increase in the number of product returns in supply chains, which is both environmentally and economically challenging. E-commerce companies need to effectively manage product returns, as this has a direct impact on their reputation and consumer experience. Reducing returns is key to maintaining sustainable practices for online product sales. A significant increase in e-commerce transactions is also evident in Indonesia, which is the fourth largest country in the world. Despite the very large size of the market, research on e-commerce in the business-to-customer (B2C) market in Indonesia is underrepresented in the literature. The purpose of this paper is to identify key factors from the customer perspective that influence product returns in reverse logistics in Indonesian e-commerce. The novelty of this study stems from the focus on the customer perspective on product returns in the B2C market when shopping online and the spatial scope. Due to the uncertainty inherent in multi-criteria decision making, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method was used to rank factors and potential solutions derived from a critical literature review. As a result, the study provides a ranking of factors and alternatives for managing e-commerce returns in Indonesia. The results show that among Indonesian e-commerce customers, product quality (QP) was rated the highest, while (Pu) was rated the lowest. In terms of the alternatives that are the most suitable for improving the customer experience of e-commerce product returns in Indonesia, a clear returns policy (CRP) scored the highest, while the merchandise catalog (Cat) was rated as the lowest priority. Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods have gained increased attention in sustainable engineering, where complex decision-making problems require consideration of multiple criteria and stakeholder perspectives. This review paper provides a comprehensive overview of the different MCDM methods, their applications in sustainable engineering, and their strengths and weaknesses. The paper discusses the concept of sustainable engineering, its principles, and the different areas where MCDM methods have been applied, including energy, manufacturing, transportation, and environmental engineering. Case studies of real-world applications are presented and analyzed, highlighting the main findings and implications for engineering practice. Finally, the challenges and limitations of MCDM methods in sustainable engineering are discussed, and future research directions are proposed. In order to rapidly evaluate the working performance of an Electric Power Steering System (EPS) and clarify the key indicators that affect its working condition, targeted maintenance measures can be taken to improve the vehicle's handling, stability, and safety. This paper took an EPS system as the research object and decomposed it into five working indicators: steering lightness, steering returnability, steering wheel mid-zone performance, steering wheel vibration, and power assist characteristics. On this basis, the subjective exponential extension Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was combined with the objective improved entropy weight method, and then the combination weighting method of game theory was employed to ensure that the results were reliable. At the same time, a cloud model was introduced to understand the actual situation of each indicator by using cloud parameters and multi-level feedback results. According to the principle of maximum membership and the comprehensive evaluation method, the EPS performance evaluation result was obtained. The results showed that the comprehensive cloud parameter of EPS was U (74.31, 6.08, 0.50), which indicated that its working performance was in good condition, with some minor damage that did not affect its normal use; however, attention should be paid to the maintenance and repair of vulnerable components to ensure the handling, stability, and safety of the vehicle. Urbanization in Egypt detracts from green spaces, reduces the per capita green ratio, and increases adverse effects such as heat islands, air pollution, and energy consumption. In addition, it affects social human comfort issues. In this context, building rooftops is a potential solution that could reduce the impact of green space scarcity. Such a solution has multiple evidence-based environmental, economic, and social benefits. Consequently, numerous governmental and private initiatives have spread the rooftop greening concept in Egypt. These initiatives have adopted several planting systems, such as soil-based, deep-water culture, and nutrient film technique systems. This manuscript examines these prevalent systems through environmental, economic and social lenses. This paper pioneers a user-centric tool to facilitate the system selection that aligns with individual needs. An analysis was conducted to ascertain the value of various factors influencing system choice, encompassing a literature review, expert opinion solicitation, market survey, and energy simulation. The Analytical Hierarchy Processes methodology was proposed to appraise the factors, aiding in arriving at an informed decision. The paper presents a novel contribution by studying many factors spanning diverse scientific domains. Over the last decades, the analysis of mode choice preferences has become a vital aspect of enhancing the quality of public transport services. Most papers aim to derive conclusions from large-scale surveys. However, for specific homogenous patterns, such as university students, a smaller group of evaluators might also be sufficient. Such a survey can rather be considered as an expert survey, in which few representatives might express the preference of a larger community, thus, a different methodology can be more effective than the traditional statistical techniques. This paper aims to introduce a new approach that combines two multi-criteria decision-making methods, the analytic hierarchy process and the preference ranking organization method for enrichment evaluation, for a hybrid consensual model by aggregating the individual priorities defined by each decision-maker. The introduced model presents advantages in terms of reducing time, cost, and effort compared to statistical methods and requires solely necessary information from the users via objective and subjective evaluations. The model's effectiveness is tested with real-world data from the city of Budapest; highlighting the significant impact of the underground mode on users' behavior toward public transport. Properly designed and installed interior stairs provide safe and convenient access to all residents of the house, including children and elderly people. While safety considerations are paramount for stair design and placement decisions in a two-storey single-family house, sustainability becomes another important factor in these deliberations. Nevertheless, safety and sustainability of the interior stairs can be seen as conflicting objectives in decision-making processes (i.e., while a larger staircase area positively affect residents' climbing ability, it also causes higher energy consumption and material usage). Therefore, increased awareness of stair-project selection processes is required when multi-objective tasks are involved. Seven criteria affecting stair safety and sustainability in a single-family house are identified in this paper. The integrated AHP-MEREC criteria-weighting approach is proposed, to determine their weights in decision-making processes. Four different multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approaches, ARAS, SAW, TOPSIS and PROMETHEE, were used to determine alternative evaluations. Since the selection of the most suitable MCDM method is full of uncertainties, the novel combined-decision-making approach formally called CORST (COmbining MCDM appRoaches using method STability coefficient) is proposed in this paper. The new method stability coefficient is used to determine the stability and reliability of the specific MCDM approach. An environmentally friendly and economically efficient forest road network is the key to sustainable forest management, and it is essential to evaluate the sustainability of an established forest road network and to optimize the forest road network based on sustainability criteria. This study proposes a sustainability evaluation method for forest road networks. The evaluation index system was constructed by selecting 12 indices from the social, economic, and ecological dimensions. To improve the credibility of the weighting of the evaluation indicators, the evaluation indicators were assigned subjective and objective weights by the analytic hierarchy process and the entropy weight method, respectively, and the game theory idea was used to comprehensively assign the weights. The study area was chosen to be the Taohuajiang State-Owned Forest Farm, which is a national forest park and is also an ecological public welfare forest. The development of the forest road network in the social, economic, and environmental dimensions was calculated by adopting the evaluation method proposed in this study, and the sustainability of the forest road network in each subdivision of the study area was determined, to provide a detailed theoretical basis for the management to carry out the upgrading of the sustainability of the forest road network. The results derived from the evaluation methodology show that the sustainable development of the forest road network in the study area is "excellent". At the same time, the level of sustainability of the forest road network in different areas of the study area was also evaluated. Finally, this paper puts forward policy recommendations for optimizing the sustainable development of forest road networks. The original sustainability evaluation method in this paper provides a scientific tool for assessing the degree of sustainable development of forest road networks, which contributes to optimizing the forest road networks. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP), and Analytic Network Process (ANP) methods are widely used for decision-making across various fields, and have shown success in numerous applications within human resource management (HRM). The purpose of this study is to present a systematic literature review on the applications of AHP, FAHP, and ANP in human resource management. The search process encompassed two main online databases, Scopus and Web of Science. This research covers a total of 180 application papers. To help readers extract quick and meaningful information, references are summarized in tabular format. The results showed that these methods have been applied in various domains of HRM such as performance management and appraisal, selecting human resources, talent attraction and retention, intellectual capital, workplace safety, reward management, e-HRM, green HRM, etc. To the best of our knowledge, no comprehensive research review has yet been conducted on the applications of AHP in HRM.
