Background: Online knowledge translation (KT) approaches are becoming increasingly prevalent within healthcare due to their accessibility and facilitation of international support networks. Online platforms enable timely and far‐reaching dissemination of current evidence and best‐practice recommendations. Although there is potential to improve the uptake of rehabilitation guidelines, it is essential to consider the acceptability of online approaches to healthcare professionals to ensure their successful integration within everyday clinical settings. Aims: To establish the prospective acceptability of a theoretically informed online intervention for speech pathologists, Aphasia Nexus: Connecting Evidence to Practice, that aims to facilitate the implementation of aphasia best practice. Methods & Procedures: A mixed‐methods multinational electronic survey based on the Theoretical Framework of Acceptability (TFA) completed by aphasia researchers and clinicians. Outcomes & Results: A total of 43 participants completed the survey with 91% (n = 39) indicating that they would use Aphasia Nexus. Understanding the intervention and how it works (intervention coherence as per the TFA) was the key factor influencing the likelihood of integration within everyday clinical practice. Participants identified potential areas where the intervention could influence service change and also recommended further design and content changes to improve the intervention. Conclusions & Implications: Aphasia Nexus is an acceptable platform for further feasibility testing in the form of a pilot trial within an Australian‐based health service. The study progresses the theory of TFA as it was a valuable framework facilitating the identification of prominent factors influencing acceptability. The study also informs further intervention refinements in preparation for the next stage of research. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on the subject: Online strategies have the potential to enhance KT and promote the uptake of rehabilitation guidelines. An online intervention, however, can only be effective if implemented well. For this reason, it is essential to establish the acceptability of online interventions to the intended recipients and therefore increase the likelihood of successful implementation. What this paper adds to existing knowledge: This study used a theoretically based framework to establish the acceptability of an online implementation intervention, Aphasia Nexus, to multinational aphasia clinicians and researchers. It demonstrated the value in identifying the prominent factors influencing acceptability to inform further intervention refinements and warrant continuing research. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work?: Speech pathologists should use online platforms to drive the implementation of best practice on an international scale. Accessible summary: What is known on the subject?: Medication does not always resolve a serious mood episode, and there is evidence that it needs to be combined with an evidence‐based psychotherapy to promote symptomatic and functional recovery.There is little known about what people with serious mood disorders want from mental health services to manage their mood. What the paper adds to existing knowledge?: Participants in this study wanted a framework other than the medical model for understanding and managing their mood.Their motivation to commence psychotherapy was based on a sense of having hit rock bottom and a need for understanding what was happening in order to better manage their mood. Introduction: There is little known about the motivations for people to participate in psychotherapy for depression. Aim: To explore why people, with a diagnosis of major depressive episode, chose to take part in a psychotherapy study and what they expected it to involve. Method: This was a qualitative study of participants' motivations and understandings of psychotherapy for depression. Data were collected using semi‐structured interviews and analysed using thematic analysis. Findings: Eight females and eight males with an age range from 21 years to 55 years were recruited. Three themes were identified that described why participants chose to participate in psychotherapy: medication was not enough, a turning point and making sense of experience. The participants chose to participate in psychotherapy after finding that medication was insufficient and this combined with a sense of crisis motivated them to engage in psychotherapy in order to learn to manage their mood differently. Discussion: The participants recognized that they wanted a framework other than a medical model with its reliance on medication, in order to make sense of their experiences and develop new self‐management strategies. Implications for Practice: Our study suggests that some people experiencing a serious mood disorder access psychotherapy after "hitting rock bottom" and finding insufficient help from medications. Mental health nurses need to be aware people do not always want a medical model approach to treatment of serious mood disorders and they need to provide the opportunity of engaging in a psychotherapeutic framework in order to better understand and manage their mood. This paper explored whether there was a relationship between staffing and quality indicators in residential care for older people, in both rest homes and continuing care hospitals. A longitudinal survey of a sample of residential-care rest homes and continuing-care hospitals explored the relationship between direct-care staffing levels, skill mix and quality indicators. The study was conducted in r est homes (n=18) and continuing care hospitals (n=16) providing long-term care for people 65 years of age and over in the greater Auckland region in New Zealand. Participating rest homes and hospitals collected monthly data on direct-care staffing (registered nurses, enrolled nurses and support workers), quality indicators (falls, new fractures, pressure ulcers, weight loss, urinary tract infections, over nine medications a day, presence of indwelling catheters and use of daily restraints), over a six-month period. Logistic analysis revealed that in continuing care hospitals, as registered nurse/enrolled nurse time increased, there was a general trend of reduction in adverse events: falls, pressure ulcers, and daily restraint use. However , there were no significant associations between registered nurse/ enrolled nurse, or support worker staffing hours in rest homes in relation to the incidence of the five quality indicators: falls, weight loss, urinary tract infections, use of over nine medications, and the use of indwelling catheters. The study, utilising facility-level data, demonstrated a trend that increasing the combined time of registered and enrolled nurses to residents resulted in a decrease in adverse events in continuing-care hospitals. Bronchiectasis is a chronic respiratory disease that impacts significantly on quality of life for those who have it. There is a paucity of literature exploring the perspectives of children and young people. The aim of this study was to examine the day-to-day life experience of a group of young people with bronchiectasis. A qualitative study using semi-structured interviews explored fifteen young people's perspectives of life with bronchiectasis. Key themes were identified using an inductive iterative approach through constant comparative analysis guided by Thorne's interpretive description. Life with bronchiectasis was conceptualized by participants as "Pretty Normal". This consisted of two co-existing life views which represented how young people balanced the ups and downs of adolescence while learning to accommodate the demands of living with bronchiectasis. Three key thematic elements "sore and tired", 'life interrupted and "looking after self", influenced and challenged these two views of life. Young people with bronchiectasis portray life as being the same as their peers. Despite this, they recognized that the symptoms, interruptions, and self-management responsibilities led them to find ways of coping and integrating their experience into a new and modified view of normal. Māori (Indigenous people of New Zealand [NZ]) experience inequitable health outcomes compared to non‐Māori, across the spectrum of clinical care, including those relating to medicines. Internationally, pharmacist‐facilitated medicines review services have been shown to benefit older adults. Despite national policies calling for the increased implementation of these services, NZ data relating to them remain limited, and these services may increase disparities between Māori and non‐Māori. There are currently no medicines review services developed specifically for Māori older adults. The current study aims to elicit stakeholder views of current and potential pharmacist services to help inform the development of a pharmacist‐facilitated medicines review service for community‐dwelling Māori older adults. Kaupapa Māori theory was applied within this qualitative research. Purposive sampling was used to recruit participants who were involved in providing, planning, funding developing or culturally supporting health services in Waitematā District Health Board, Auckland, NZ. Data were collected in semi‐structured interviews and in a focus group and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. The study was reported in accordance with the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative research. Eleven participants took part in the research in one focus group (n = 4) and seven semi‐structured interviews, conducted between November 2018 and March 2019. Three main themes were generated: (a) moving out of the shadows – claiming pharmacists' unique role within a healthcare whānau (family); (b) 'give them the power to be able to ask' – upholding the mana (self‐esteem, pride, standing) and autonomy of kaumātua (Māori older adults) and (c) rights versus realities – reimagining pro‐equity Māori health services within the constraints of the colonial health system. The right of Māori to experience equitable health outcomes needs to be included in policy and also operationalised in relation to medicines review services through improved utilisation of pharmacist skills and improving Māori older adults' autonomy and control. Purpose: To explore the views and opinions of nonconsumer researchers to the concept of an Expert Consumer Researcher Group. Design and Methods: Qualitative exploratory involving individual interviews with nonconsumer mental health researchers experienced in working collaboratively with consumer researchers. Data were analyzed thematically. Findings: Participants viewed the concept positively, albeit with caution. Perceived advantages included: greater visibility and enhanced access; collegiality; sharing and creating expertise; broader acceptance; making it mandatory; and structure and location. Participants were concerned about potential tokenism and implementation barriers. Aim: Dietary modification is integral to the management of end stage kidney disease. However, adherence to the renal diet is poor. Few studies have explored the perspectives of renal dietitians and how they work with patients to facilitate dietary change. The objectives of this study were to explore the experiences of renal dietitians about educating patients with end stage kidney disease; and to describe the strategies perceived to help patients understand the renal diet. Methods: Semi‐structured interviews based on Sensemaking theory were conducted with renal dietitians (n = 27) working in Australia and New Zealand from a range of metropolitan, regional and remote areas. Results: Five major themes across two categories were derived from the data. The renal dietitians in this study experienced feelings of frustration, frequently worked in practice environments with limited or inadequate resources and perceived that establishing trust and demonstrating empathy were important to sense making. Renal dietitians helped patients make sense of and understand the diet by clarifying ambiguities and conflicting information; and simplifying complexity by using simple explanations, individualised advice and practical support. These strategies were considered critical to the renal diet sense making process. Conclusions: The experience of providing renal diet advice to adults with end stage kidney disease was emotionally and professionally challenging. Alternative approaches to patient education may help dietitians to empower patients to better understand the renal diet. Further research exploring the experiences of learning about the renal diet from the patient and carer perspective would also help to inform future alternative approaches. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
