Purpose: Return-to-work coordinators (RTWCs) give people on sick leave individualized support and coordinate between different stakeholders, including physicians. The aim of this study was to explore physicians' experience of RTWCs and investigate factors that influence how much physicians collaborate with RTWCs, or refer patients to them, in primary, orthopaedic, and psychiatric care clinics. Materials and methods: Of the 1229 physicians responding to a questionnaire, 629 physicians who had access to a RTWC in their clinic answered to questions about collaborating with RTWCs. Results: Among physicians who had access to a RTWC, 29.0% collaborated with a RTWC at least once a week. Physicians with a more favourable experience of RTWCs reported more frequent collaboration (adjusted OR 2.92, 95% CI 2.06–4.15). Physicians also collaborated more often with RTWCs if they reported to often deal with problematic sick-leave cases, patients with multiple diagnoses affecting work ability, and conflicts with patients over sickness certification. Conclusions: Physicians who had more problematic sick-leave cases to handle and a favourable experience of RTWCs, also reported collaborating more often with RTWCs. The results indicate that RTWCs' facilitation of contacts with RTW stakeholders and improvements in the sickness certification process may be of importance for physicians. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: This study of physicians' experience of collaborating with return-to-work coordinators (RTWCs) observes that physicians reported more collaboration with or referrals to coordinators if they had a favourable experience of coordinators. The results indicate that physicians report more collaboration with or referrals to RTWCs if they had more problematic sick-leave cases to handle in the clinic. Sexuality education is often implemented by individuals of various backgrounds and training which may cause doubt about the level of competence and expertise provided. Certification can be a strategy to gain knowledge and skills and distinguish oneself in the field; however, little is known about sexuality educators’ experience of certification. This mixed-methods study sought to address this gap in the literature. Sexuality educators (n = 157) were asked about their experiences of certification and the perceived value of sexuality education and sexology certifications. Findings indicate a variety of certifications (n = 32) held by sexuality educators with significant differences in holding/pursuing a certification based on the highest degree earned, the geographical region worked in, and the work setting. Respondents perceived sexology certification as less valuable than sexuality education certification, and those with bachelor’s degrees valued sexuality education certification more than those with master’s and doctoral degrees. Cost and time were common barriers to certification, and individuals choosing not to pursue certification questioned its value for their job or success in the field. These results provide guidance to organisations offering certification and can also provide insight for sexuality educators as they consider certification as part of their professional journey. The aims of this study were to first determine the extent of owners’ fundamental knowledge of equine care, second, gain their opinions on the implementation of a mandatory certificate of knowledge and third, to investigate the association of certification on horse owner knowledge. An online survey comprising 23 questions (18 closed, 5 open) was distributed worldwide via snowball sampling, and completed by 1847 horse owners who were all ≥18 years old from 17 different countries. Almost all (96%, n = 1781) completed surveys were usable. Just over half (52%) of participants held a current equine knowledge certification, and 59% believed a mandatory certificate of knowledge should be necessary to buy, own, or sell a horse. Horse owners with an equine certificate of knowledge were more likely to be in favor of a mandatory certificate (Pearson’s Chi-squared = 50.79, df = 1, p < 0.0001). The mean correctly answered knowledge questions was 68%, indicating that approximately 1/3 of horse owners lacked fundamental horse care knowledge. Further examination indicated that participating horse owners showed the least understanding in the behavioral interactions domain (ANOVA F(4, 24) = 4.98, p < 0.01), specifically in relation to pain recognition and learning theory terminology. Arguably, this deficit in knowledge and likely correct application increases the risk of owners using misinformed or inappropriate techniques to manage horse behavior and training, predisposing the horse to experiencing a sub-optimal quality of life. Overall no significant difference was found between the total correct scores of horse owners with or without a certificate (ANOVA F(1, 56) = 0.78, p > 0.05); however, a series of Chi-squared tests revealed that for the more complex questions, horse owners with a certificate scored better than those without (all p < 0.05). Further work is needed to develop an evidence-based assessment framework if mandatory certification of horse owners is to become an effective tool for improving horse welfare and quality of life. In the wake of the pervasive digitalisation of industry, the disruption of global supply chains during the COVID-19 pandemic, and a geopolitical race for the development of artificial intelligence models, the European Union has pivoted towards promoting 'digital sovereignty' across the technological stack. The paper looks more specifically at the cloud layer and analyses the draft European Union Cloud Services Scheme (EUCS) launched by the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity in December 2020. While EUCS is a highly technical scheme, the attempt to include digital sovereignty provisions in it provoked unexpected controversies around who pushes for 'digital sovereignty', why, and how feasible it is. The paper argues, first, that distributive conflicts between member states have led to strong objections towards including digital sovereignty provisions in EUCS. Second, diverging national preferences have also played out in horizontal inter-institutional conflicts around competences between the European Commission and the European Parliament. All in all, the paper makes a novel empirical contribution by studying the overlooked case of EUCS. Theoretically, it bridges the growing literature on digital sovereignty with classic theories of EU integration to identify key factors hindering the translation of digital sovereignty discourses into policy within a broader context of limited technological capabilities. AbstractIn Japan, the diagnostic criteria for the higher brain dysfunction (HBD) emerged in 2005 in response to social needs for support for the patients and their families. The issue of cognitive dysfunction after brain trauma is not unique to Japan. The purpose of this study was to reveal the current status of family members of HBD patients from their perspective, focusing on the changes before and after the establishment of diagnostic criteria in Japan. We conducted a questionnaire survey for family members supporting the HBD patients. The questionnaire included the causative condition, explanation on HBD by health professionals, and problems/difficulties they encountered. This research involved family members of 278 HBD cases (males = 211, age 49 years). The major underlying cause was head injury (n = 139). Compared to patients diagnosed pre-2005, a significantly larger proportion of family members after 2005 received information on the condition during the acute phase (within one month) (p < 0.001), including that from physicians (p < 0.001). Nearly half of the families cited a lack of awareness of HBD among the professionals as a problem. In Japan, awareness of HBD in the society is gradually increasing especially after the current diagnostic criteria were implemented, and there has been a steady increase over time in early diagnosis. Yet, there still remain those not appropriately diagnosed. To salvage those patients and the families left behind, we are suggesting several recommendations to further augment clinical practice and the healthcare systems in Japan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Professional credentialing schemes based on experience and examination are used to clarify the scope and required competencies associated with the practice of a profession. National occupational hygiene (OH) credentials developed in 17 nations have been recognized by the International Occupational Hygiene Association (IOHA) to meet or exceed the requirements of a model certification program. To date, there is no credentialing or certification scheme for occupational hygienists in Spanish-speaking regions. To fill this void, a new credentialing body has been created named the Iberoamerican Board of Occupational Hygiene (JIHO). As a first step to the development of a certification exam for a profession, it is necessary to determine the interest in an occupational hygiene certification exam in Spanish and to clarify the most common work practices for those practicing the profession. To determine the proper exam weightings for occupational hygiene competencies needed to practice in Spanish-speaking regions JIHO conducted a comprehensive survey of professional practice of occupational hygiene in nations where Spanish is spoken as the primary language. Surveys were sent to 456 practicing occupational hygienists in nine different countries on a variety of topics. Results indicated that 79% of respondents felt the need for an OH certification exam in Spanish was very or extremely important. The most frequent and important technical competencies utilized in practice were (1) awareness about the health effects of hazardous agents to make decisions about workplace activities and exposures, (2) application of the hierarchy of controls, control banding, hazard communication, training of employees and other methods to reduce worker exposure and workplace risks, and (3) application of principles to recognize and control biohazards in the workplace. The study results have been used to guide the weighting and importance of various technical topics and rubrics on the JIHO exam. Data from this study can be used in the development of certification examinations, to improve international coherence in the profession, and the development of educational programs in OH. Increases in the numbers of older adults with mental health and substance use concerns compel us to identify best practices in training to address these issues. Senior Centers are an ideal location for behavioral health education programs as they are the go-to place for many older adults. This paper describes an online certificate program in Behavioral Health and Aging offered by the Center for Aging and Disability Education and Research at Boston University School of Social Work in collaboration with the National Council on Aging to increase senior center staff knowledge and skills. A total of 228 senior center staff in Illinois, Florida, and Wisconsin completed the online certificate program. There were statistically significant changes in key competencies for all courses based on pre-post assessment. We held key informant interviews to assess the impact of training and participants stated that their knowledge, skills, and behaviors were influenced by the program. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Data protection by design is an obligation for data controllers according to article 25(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The present paper explores the concept of data protection by design and proposes that data protection certificates can offer guidance to data controllers, about compliance with this GDPR obligation. An exploration of officially approved certification schemes shows that the certification requirements may lay down concrete use cases which can guide data controllers about compliance with the obligation of data protection by design. Even though these policies are not a comprehensive guide for data protection by design, they lay down valuable solutions with respect to effective compliance. Moreover, the data protection measures of compliance in certification criteria have been approved by the competent Data Protection Authority and possibly the European Data Protection Board. As the present paper argues, the official approval by the competent authorities creates legitimate expectations under European Union Law. Specifically, data controllers can legitimately expect that abidance by approved safeguards meets the expectations of the authorities that are entrusted with monitoring their compliance. This study aimed to investigate the influence of having a green certification logo (versus no logo) supplementing with text (versus no text) on hotel guests using water behaviours. Focus group interviews (Study 1) found that hotel guests are aware of common green practices in hotels. A quasi-experimental survey (Study 2) indicated the interaction effect of a green certification logo and text on hotel guests' environmental awareness and water-saving behavioural intention. This essay examines criminology and criminal justice educational programs seeking to establish quality programming though academic standards. Since the inception of criminal justice as a standalone academic degree program, questions about the quality of such programs has plagued the discipline. Examining the history of the discipline including the challenges brought from such a fast development of a great number of academic programs in criminal justice/criminology, and the resultant issues stemming from this explosion of growth, leads to questions about the quality of these programs. We examine the quality issues when the programs first started to develop and then blossom to the quality issues that still exist today. We address the development of "standards" as a measure of quality and ACJS' role in establishing standards through certification and accreditation. Higher education in criminology and criminal justice has evolved over the last 100 years in fits and starts. The road was long, and it took many turns, reflecting not only the need for training and professionalism among criminal justice practitioners, but for the development of a new academic field of study at colleges and universities. This article traces the history of the quest for academic standards in higher education, specifically the role of ACJS in this endeavor. Both authors have contributed to ACJS's efforts over the years and were involved in the two most recent iterations of ACJS Academic Program Review: Certification and Program Endorsement. We chronicle the rise and fall of certification and the recent effort to create an endorsement program that seeks to balance the need for quality control while providing the desired flexibility for individual programs. To reduce ergonomic risks for their workforce, many industries in Thailand seek assistance from professional ergonomists. However, most academic programs are delivered by instructors with limited human factor and ergonomics (HFE) background, who incorporate either physical or cognitive parts of HFE. To reliably assess and design systems according to HFE principles and standards, programs should be provided by creditable HFE professionals and based on holistic HFE knowledge. The objective of the present study was to initiate a transformation of the professional development in Thailand. The process included a consolidation of the details of HFE education through questionnaires, and identification of requirements from industries through a focus group interview. The results showed a prevalent lack of holistic considerations of HFE knowledge and a primary focus on physical ergonomics. Problems with lack of resources and basic knowledge in design were also reflected by concerns from the industry regarding limited experience, design competency and use of objective methodologies of HFE practitioners. This information was subsequently used to constitute the development of preliminary competencies and a pilot certification system. AbstractAddressing food waste is a growing priority for hotel groups. However, aligning corporate sustainability goals with the practicalities of individual hotels is challenging. While hotels increasingly adopt certification programs to enable transparency on sustainability performance, there is a risk that compliance-based assessment systems may not fully capture the nuances of each hotel’s local context. The notion of regeneration, emphasizing reinvestment in people, place and the natural world, offers the potential to bridge the gap between corporate waste targets, hotel operations and local outcomes. Food waste, recoverable through a biological cycle, aligns with the principles of regeneration. This study explores the perspectives of practitioners involved in certification and benchmarking and those advocating for regeneration in the tourism sector. This study explores whether compliance assessment systems are sufficient to account for the challenges associated with hotel food waste and whether regenerative enhancements could be conceptualised. Through in-depth interviews, the research reveals a divide between compliance assessment and regeneration across key areas. A conceptual framework is introduced, highlighting areas of convergence that could enhance existing certification programs – with the ultimate aim of helping hotels reconsider their relationship with food waste and their local ecological system. Literature on occupational risks among organic farmers is scarce. This study explored safety practices and non-fatal injuries among organic producers, and the role of sociodemographic, work, and farm characteristics on safety and injury. Cross sectional survey of certified organic crop producers in the Southwest (SW) region of the United States (US). The Organic Integrity Database was used for recruitment. Data were collected through an electronic and paper survey. Analyses were conducted on 115 cases; response rate was estimated at 25%. A high majority of respondents owned their operation and were younger than 65 years, male, educated beyond high-school, and non-Hispanic whites. Less than half had more than 10 years of experience in organic farming; one-third worked off the farm year-round. Safety practices were very basic despite the widespread use of equipment and machinery, and limited to wearing normal clothing and apparel such hats and glasses. About half of respondents (52.6%) reported non-fatal injuries in the past year; and one-third (32.7%) time lost due to injuries. The overall cumulative incidence rate was estimated at 5.3 injuries per 10 workers within the last year. The injury rate decreased with hours worked. Significant differences were found on gender and education level and safety practices, with female respondents and the more educated being more proactive in practicing safety. Those working less than 40 h/week, in farms smaller than 50 acres, using light machinery or compact utility tractors, and tractors without roll-over protection reported significantly higher injury frequency compared to their counterparts. This study contributes unique data on an essential workforce not captured by current occupational injury and illness surveillance systems. It identifies important personal and contextual factors that may contribute to safety and injury in this population. The findings indicate the need to promote safety and prevent injuries that result in work time lost. This study may also inform future occupational safety and health research and practice, including surveillance, injury prevention programs that target certain workers and production practices, and policies that support and protect the organic farmer. Certification schemes and alternative food networks have often been studied separately or using different analytical concepts. Ethnographic research in Sichuan Province, China shows how a cooperative used both labels and people to inform consumers about the ecological quality and trustworthiness of its food, thereby obtaining price premiums. Using information infrastructure as the common analytical vocabulary for exploring both certification and performances of face-to-face relations unearths unexpected commonalities amidst presumed otherness. The infrastructure lens draws attention to the importance of scientific planning and materiality: the force of specific features of different crops and modes of production. Information infrastructures – whether labels or people – depend on, and affect, the materiality of whatever they are supposed to be informing about. Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSK-US) use for diagnostic purposes is expanding in physical therapy practice. Identifying and describing physical therapy-specific approaches to incorporating MSK-US into the evaluation process is needed. Musculoskeletal ultrasound extends the physical exam to allow clinicians to visualize anatomy and pathophysiology both statically and dynamically. Purpose: To document 1) weekly use of diagnostic MSK-US; and 2) clinical reasoning approach used in challenging patient cases by physical therapists (PTs) registered by Inteleos in musculoskeletal sonography (RMSK-certified). Longitudinal, observational, cohort study using mixed methods for data collection and analysis. All 23 currently RMSK-certified PTs using MSK-US in clinical practice across the United States were contacted, and 16 participated. Data were collected using an online survey created with the Research Electronic Data Capture System. Participants documented MSK-US clinical use and significant cases using weekly, reflective, online journals for three months. Demographic data were summarized using descriptive statistics. Case data were analyzed thematically. Participating RMSK-certified PTs performed 1110 MSK-US examinations over 110 weeks. Clinicians averaged 7 (range 1–25) MSK-US examinations weekly, representing 28% of an average caseload. Examinations contributed significant anatomical/ pathological information 100% of the time. The most common joints scanned were the knee (n = 281), shoulder (n = 254), and wrist (n = 228). Case data revealed three themes: 1) augmenting the clinical evaluation to extend or narrow a diagnosis; 2) outcomes guiding action; and 3) lessons learned from clinical findings. RMSK-certified PTs regularly used MSK-US to validate and refine their clinical diagnoses and treatment. The transition of Army Combat Medic Specialists (Military Occupational Specialty Code: 68W) from military to civilian emergency medical services (EMS) is challenging, and the pathway is not clearly defined. Our objective was to evaluate the current military requirements for 68W and how they compare to the 2019 EMS National Scope of Practice Model (SoPM) for the civilian emergency medical technician (EMT) and advanced emergency medical technician (AEMT). This was a cross-sectional evaluation of the 68W skill floor as defined by the Soldier's Manual and Trainer's Guide Healthcare Specialist and Medical Education and Demonstration of Individual Competence in comparison to the 2019 SoPM, which categorizes EMS tasks into seven skill categories. Military training documents were reviewed and extracted for specific information on military scope of practice and task-specific training requirements. Descriptive statistics were calculated. Army 68Ws were noted to perform all (59/59) tasks that coincide with the EMT SoPM. Further, Army 68W practiced above scope in the following skill categories: airway/ventilation (3 tasks); medication administration route (7 tasks); medical director approved medication (6 tasks); intravenous initiation maintenance fluids (4 tasks); and miscellaneous (1 task). Army 68W perform 96% (74/77) of tasks aligned with the AEMT SoPM, excluding tracheobronchial suctioning of an intubated patient, end-tidal CO2 monitoring or waveform capnography, and inhaled nitrous oxide monitoring. Additionally, the 68W scope included six tasks that were above the SoPM for AEMT; airway/ventilation (2 tasks); medication administration route (2 tasks); and medical director approved medication (2 tasks). The scope of practice of U.S. Army 68W Combat Medics aligns well with the civilian 2019 Scope of Practice Model for EMTs and AEMTs. Based on the comparative scope of practice analysis, transitioning from Army 68W Combat Medic to civilian AEMT would require minimal additional training. This represents a promising potential workforce to assist with EMS workforce challenges. Although aligning the scope of practice is a promising first step, future research is needed to assess the relationship of Army 68Ws training with state licensure and certification equivalency to facilitate this transition. Mental health professionals (e.g. counselors, psychologists, social workers) use the internet to market their services. One such service being marketed is "sex therapy." However, considering the paucity of sexuality-related standards present in the training standards governing the training of these professionals, it is unclear to what extent clinicians who advertise as providing "sex therapy" have the training to competently and therefore ethically provide that service. The current study sought to address this knowledge gap via survey methodology. One hundred fourteen (n = 114) clinicians from across the United States who market as providing "sex therapy" on their public PsychologyToday profile were recruited for the study. Results indicate that 25.5% are certified in sex therapy, 31.9% completed zero credits of sexuality-related coursework in graduate school, and 52.1% are members of a professional sex therapy organization. Additionally, 74.9% of clients on their caseload are presenting with sex as a primary or secondary issue. The clinical, training, and research implications of these results are discussed. There is little known about the training and qualifications of sex therapists. This study found that 25% of sex therapists across the country are certified and 32% have zero graduate training in sex therapy. This paper takes the China high- and new-technology enterprise (HNTE) program implemented in 2008 as a quasi-natural experiment. Difference-in-differences (DID) estimate with matching data from the China Industrial Enterprise Database, the China Customs Database and the HNTE Certification Database for 2006–2010 is used to study the impact of HNTE certification on enterprises' export product quality. The results show that, overall, HNTE certification promotes the upgrading of export product quality. Moreover, the improvement of innovation ability brought by HNTE certification is an important channel to promote such upgrades. A series of robustness tests also confirm the above conclusions. In addition, heterogeneity analyses are conducted based on the enterprise size, ownership and trade mode, respectively. The results show that the mechanism by which HNTE certification policy promotes export product quality through the improvement of enterprise innovation ability is more significant in non-SOEs and general trading enterprises. Participatory certification, also known as Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS), used to assess the compliance of organic or agroecological production systems, has been widely disseminated worldwide in the last ten years. In this study, we seek to analyze, based on the case of the Red de Productores y Consumidores "Comida sana y cercana" [Network of Producers and Consumers "Healthy and Local Food"], whether participatory certification can contribute to the territorialization of agroecology in the critical perspective of transforming agrifood systems. The researched network is located in the municipality of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, in the state of Chiapas, Mexico, and has been using participatory certification for over 12 years. We analyzed published bibliographies about the network and documents generated by the Network, in addition to conducting observations and interviews. The experience of "Comida sana y cercana" shows that participatory certification is a methodology capable of intersecting the five levels of agroecological transition, from technical issues to social organization and the solidarity economy. The participatory certification is an instrument for the territorialization of agroecology, as it brings farmers closer to agroecological principles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Certification is an essential stage in disease eradication efforts, encompassing epidemiological, managerial, and political complexities. The certification of smallpox eradication in the People’s Republic of China (PRC, or China) exemplifies the multifaceted nature of the certification. Despite eradicating smallpox in the early 1960s, before the Global Smallpox Eradication Programme (SEP) intensified in 1967, China was one of the last countries certified as smallpox-free by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1979. The WHO encountered notable resistance during the certification of smallpox eradication in China. This article examines the underlying motivations propelling China’s resistance, the factors that contributed to the shifts in its stance, the challenges navigated by the WHO, and the ultimate achievement of certification despite controversies surrounding its transparency and credibility. Through the case of the certification of smallpox eradication, the article provides a historical context of China’s selective engagement in global health governance, emphasising the critical importance of building a trusting relationship between the WHO and its member states. It offers insights for fostering effective collaboration among diverse stakeholders driven by varied political agendas in addressing shared global health challenges such as the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Research shows that the search for healthier foods and concern for sustainability are driving the purchase of organic products. However, consumer expectations for quality attributes and sustainability often go beyond the parameters for organic certification, even after the latest revision (EU Regulation 2018/848). This article aims to explore Italian consumers' expectations for attributes beyond the current organic certification and to highlight the importance of introducing an additional certification for this added value. Nine focus groups (59 participants) were conducted and analyzed with the Template Analysis approach using Atlas.ti 6.0. Participants expressed expectations beyond current organic certification: i) "for the consumer" (excellent product quality); ii) "for the people and the planet" (ethical aspects of production and distribution); iii) information about organic labels. The development of an "organic plus sustainability certification" seems important: it could allow consumers to make more conscious and ethical purchasing decisions in mature but still changing organic markets such as Italy. Pesticides are crucial for increasing agricultural productivity, but they have also been linked to a range of health and environmental risks. In this paper, we used nationally representative data from 557 agro-dealers in Uganda to assess the role of agro-dealer certification in improving knowledge and practices related to environmentally-friendly pest control. We found that almost half of the sampled agro-dealers were not certified or accredited by regulatory bodies, even though this is a prerequisite for selling pesticides in the country. Results further showed that only 16% of the agro-input shops were selling biopesticide products, largely due to a lack of awareness, access and demand from farmers. Regression results showed that certified agro-dealers were 9-12 percentage points more likely to know about biopesticides and integrated pest management, and 8-10 percentage points more likely to sell biopesticide products, compared to their non-certified counterparts. Our findings imply that agro-dealer certification courses can play an important role in raising knowledge and stimulating the supply of environmentally-benign pest control products. We identified regulatory enforcement, a decentralized certification system and agro-dealer associations as some of the potential pathways for incentivising compliance with certification requirements, thereby promoting lower-risk pest control products and strategies. Markets in which similar goods of different qualities are sold suffer from information asymmetries and their negative consequences. Dealers have established themselves, and mediate these markets through their use of quality signals. While these signals help to mitigate information asymmetries, these markets still function well below their optimum: a large share of goods sold are overpriced, and most of the benefits are reaped by intermediaries. In this paper we build on prior research that proposes the use of blockchain as an enabler for trusted, decentralized asset documentation. Applying a socio-technical lens, we describe how blockchain-enabled multi-party certification affords dealers the action potential to send signals that are more closely correlated to the unobservable quality of the underlying good (i.e., signals with a higher fit) than the signals they send today. We then both theorize and experimentally explore the market effects of the two types of signals. Using data from a laboratory market experiment with 210 participants, we find empirical evidence that multi-party certification affords dealers the action potential to send signals of significantly higher fit than those sent by intermediaries alone, leading to a reduction in information asymmetries, a more efficient allocation of goods, and an increase in market fairness. Purpose: We report results in relation to returning to driving in the UK under the exceptional cases rule for visual field loss. Methods: The Hemianopia Adaptation Study is a prospective clinical study recruiting adult stroke survivors with new onset homonymous hemianopia. The mobility assessment course (MAC) was used to measure navigational scanning. Car drivers were offered a 1-year post-stroke assessment to consider referral for driving assessment. Results: Of 144 participants, 51 were eligible for driving assessment, with 13 (25.4%) accepting appointment for UK Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) referral. A statistically significant difference in gender and baseline Barthel (stroke severity) scores was found between those requesting referral and those declining (p＝0.046; p<0.001). MAC outcomes were significantly different, with those referred having a lower percentage of target omissions (9.0%) and faster mean course completion time (46.0 s), than those not referred (28.3%/72.5 s) (p＝0.006/p<0.001). Twelve of the 13 referred were offered a driving assessment by the DVLA. All 12 passed and returned to driving. Conclusions: It is possible for individuals with post-stroke homonymous hemianopia to return to driving, where exceptional cases criteria are met. Introduction: Performance on the certifying examinations such as the American Board of Internal Medicine Certification Exam (ABIM-CE) is of great interest to residents and their residency programs. Identification of factors associated with certification exam result may allow residency programs to recognize and intervene for residents at risk of failing. Despite this, residency programs have few evidence-based predictors of certification exam outcome. The change to pass-or-fail score reporting of the USA Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) Step 1 removes one such predictor. Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective study of residents from a medium-sized internal medicine residency program who graduated from 1998 through 2017. We used univariate tests of associations between ABIM-CE result and various demographic and scholastic factors. Results: Of 166 graduates, 14 (8.4%) failed the ABIM-CE on the first attempt. Failing the first attempt of the ABIM-CE was associated with older median age on entering residency (29 vs 27 years; P = 0.01); lower percentile rank on the Internal Medicine In-Training Examination (IM-ITE) in each of the first, second, and third years of training (P < 0.001 for all); and lower scores on the USMLE Steps 1, 2 Clinical Knowledge, and 3 (P < 0.05 for all). No association was seen between a variety of other scholastic or demographic factors and first-attempt ABIM-CE result. Discussion: Although USMLE step 1 has changed to a pass-or-fail reporting structure, there are still other characteristics that allow residency programs to identify residents at risk of ABIM-CE first time failure and who may benefit from intervention. Advanced practice nurses (APNs) care for various patient populations in a wide variety of settings. The four types of APNs in the USA (certified nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, certified nurse-midwife, and certified registered nurse anaesthetist) have differences and commonalities related to education, licensure, and certification. Care provided by APNs has been demonstrated to be of high quality, and APNs are active and engaged participants in continuing professional development (CPD) as CPD is required to maintain licensure and board certification. Sustainability certification is one means to address environmental and social issues present in fashion supply chains, whilst bridging the knowledge gap between brands and consumers. However, despite increased urgency to improve social, ethical and environmental practices in this industry, little is understood about how ethical fashion brands currently utilise sustainability certification, in an increasingly saturated, and often unregulated, labelling environment. This study examines choice of sustainability certifications, certification process, and use of labelling, by a range of Australasian fashion brands who promote sustainability as a core part of their customer-facing image. The research identifies a five-stage framework for sustainability certification, as well as indicating failures of current systems relative to user needs. The study develops and offers a proposal for a standardised taxonomy of fashion sustainability labelling that could be adapted, irrespective of firm size, sales revenue of garment and textile types. We compare the extent to which national organic standards in North America reflect principles and benchmark practices for agricultural sustainability, and the governance and legal context that shape them. We find that Canada has the strongest principles, and the US the weakest. Mexican and Canadian standards are stronger in terms of sustainable management practices than the US. No standards contained practice requirements related to social and employment standards. Our research describes how governance processes shape the establishment of national standards. This article derives from part of a larger study on sexual violence prevention in teacher education that analyses the narratives of fifteen teacher candidates in an Ontario university. It begins by providing a rationale for the research, which engages emerging teachers as key stakeholders in prevention education. Narrative inquiry was conducted to understand the experiences of teacher candidates who were troubled by the programme's lack of education and training on sexuality education and sexual violence prevention. Teacher candidates reflected that their first education about consent and sexual violence occurred in a postsecondary rather than an elementary or secondary school context. As part of the teacher certification programme, participants felt entitled to learn about sexuality education methodologies and sexual violence prevention education. As emerging teachers, they expressed the desire to know how to teach young people about sex and consent, healthy relationships, boundaries, and the sociopolitical contexts of sexual violence, as well as how to sensitively respond to disclosure. Most pointedly, participants understood the power that effective sexuality education by trained teachers may have in reducing victimisation, thereby contributing to educational equity. Whereas the importance of information system (IS) certifications is increasing to prove compliance with regulatory and industry requirements, research reveals inconsistent findings concerning the effectiveness of IS certifications. Prior studies have concluded that such inconsistent findings stem partly from users' limited understanding of the nature and role of certifications due to ineffective certification presentations. We follow a three-phase, theory-driven design science approach to examine how to design effective certification presentations. First, we identified sources of users' limited understanding and formulated a revised certification presentation that facilitates users' peripheral information processing. We tested our design proposal in an online experiment with 300 participants. Second, we derived meta-requirements and design guidelines by validating a theory-driven model of certification presentations through an online survey with 352 participants. Third, we implemented three certification presentations complying with example guidelines and ran an online experiment with 400 participants to test whether these presentations are effective. We contribute to research and practice by proposing a design theory for certification presentations composed of peripheral cues inducing authority, social proof and likeability to increase users' trust perceptions. Violence against women is a pervasive issue that social workers often encounter in their practice settings. Preparing social workers to work with survivors of violence is essential, but currently, standardized, guidelines to support this process are lacking. The purpose of this study was to develop these competencies through a collaborative process with social work educators and practitioners from across the country. To achieve this goal, a total of 115 researchers and practitioners completed an online survey providing feedback on potential competencies. Using this feedback, competencies were revised and then collapsed using qualitative procedures. This paper presents an analysis of the examination of Portugal's education policy conducted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 1987 as well as of its role in the legitimation of a new vocationalism. In particular, the focus is on the key recommendation put forward in the examiners' report regarding the investment in the initial professional qualification of young people and its relation with the creation, in 1988, of a new administrative body within the Portuguese Ministry of Education tasked with coordinating the system of non-higher education in the area of technological, artistic and professional education, responsible for launching the professional schools in 1989, and also the technology courses at secondary-school level in 1993. The results of our analysis suggest that it was this examination by the OECD that effectively paved the way for the renascence of professional education in Portugal, but now rethought and redefined as a socially regulated, extended and grounded form of vocationalism. Assistive technology (AT) has received much attention for its capacity to improve quality of life for individuals with disabilities. While AT can be promising, the high AT abandonment issue persists. Rehabilitation counsellors are considered important in solving such an issue. However, how to effectively prepare rehabilitation counsellors to provide AT services remain unclear. This study aims to investigate the field experience of rehabilitation counsellors and identify the most relevant AT knowledge and skills to the profession. A survey that explores rehabilitation counsellors perceived AT importance and competence was used. A total of 237 rehabilitation counsellors in the United States were recruited via the email listserv provided by Commission on Rehabilitation Counsellor Certification. The results indicated that while rehabilitation counsellors considered AT important to them, they felt ill-prepared in providing such services. Of the three subscales, the ability to use AT was rated with the highest importance and the knowledge of AT was rated with the lowest competence. Although it is impossible for rehabilitation counsellors to know every aspect of the AT services, five training areas were identified to be a priority. Specifically, these five areas include training to improve rehabilitation counsellors' (a) awareness of AT benefit, (b) knowledge and skill of AT assessment, (c) knowledge of computer based AT and the use of social media, (d) skill in using AT to increase service accessibility, and (e) ability to assist clients decision making that addresses both physical and psychological needs. •Confirm the importance of AT in rehabilitation counselling practices. •Recognise the limited AT competence amongst rehabilitation counsellors. •Identify five areas for more AT training that improve rehabilitation counsellors' •Awareness of AT benefit, •Knowledge and skill of AT assessment, •Knowledge of computer based AT and the use of social media, •Skill in using AT to increase service accessibility, and •Ability to assist clients decision making that addresses both physical and psychological needs. Previous research on ISO 9001 certification maintenance, decertification and recertification is fragmented and lacks an integrated theoretical framework. Thus, the aims of this study are to provide an overview of current research, develop an integrated framework and identify research gaps. The research methodology consists of a systematic literature review (SLR) which starts with the definition of a research protocol, proceeds with searches in Web of Science and Scopus, and selects a final sample of 32 articles for analysis. Results show that the research interest in certification maintenance, decertification and recertification is growing, but is still scarce. Extant research focuses on certification maintenance factors, benefits and frameworks; decertification reasons and consequences, and recertification impact on efficiency. There is a lack of consensus on these topics, but the data extracted from the literature is used to develop a theoretical framework of what companies do in the post-certification period. The framework identifies the main variables involved in certification maintenance, decertification and recertification, and establishes the main relationships between them. This is the first SLR conducted on these topics, which provides the first integrated framework of the research phenomena, a comprehensive list of research gaps to guide future studies, and relevant management recommendations. Although increasing numbers of teachers of color are entering the teacher pipeline, they continue to be in high demand, but short supply. Research shows teachers of color have lower pass rates on certification exams, a single factor that functions as a gatekeeper to teacher licensure. This study explores the impact of a science methods intervention on Hispanic elementary teacher certification scores. Results show the mean score for the post-intervention (241.63) was 17 points higher than the pre-intervention score (224.63) and the results were statistically significant (t = −5.816, df = 18, p =.000). In this study, not only did the Science certification scores improve, the scores for Hispanic and White EPSTs were not statistically significantly different (t =.394, df = 50, p =.695). The requirements for emergency medical services (EMS) medical directors are commonly defined by state rules and regulations without national standardization. The extent of variability in the requirements to be an EMS medical director in the US is unclear. The objective of this study is to describe the state requirements to function as an EMS medical director in the US. This was an evaluation of the rules and statutes governing the current requirements to function as an agency-level EMS medical director and defined tasks in the US. Regulations and governmental statutes were reviewed from 50 states and the District of Columbia using publicly available governmental websites focusing on the specific qualifications required to work as an EMS medical director and perform the associated tasks. Data were tabulated, and descriptive statistics were calculated. Data were available and extracted for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Being a licensed physician is the minimum requirement in 50 states (50/51, 98%). One state, Montana, allows for medical direction by a licensed physician or physician assistant. Board certification in emergency medicine is required by 8% (4/51). No state requires EMS subspecialty certification. The majority of states require that EMS medical directors participate in EMS oversight (76%), EMS clinician training (71%), protocol development (67%), and quality improvement and assurance (65%). Requirements for EMS medical direction across the US are not standardized. Many states require a medical license, but emergency medicine board certification is not a common requirement. Future work will need to focus on required competencies for EMS medical direction to set clear standards and educational requirements in the US. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Third-party certification plays an important role in promoting Environmental Corporate Social Responsibility (ECSR) activities, which usually cannot be directly observed by consumers. This article studies firms' costly abatement efforts as their ECSR, in a horizontally differentiated duopoly with asymmetric costs. We consider a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) as the external certifier to set an ECSR standard. We show that the equilibrium certification outcome depends on the cost asymmetry between the two firms as well as the relevant market dynamics (e.g., the degree of product substitutability, consumers' valuation for ECSR efforts). Specifically, when the cost gap between the two firms is sufficiently wide, the NGO would set a high standard to selectively target the more efficient firm. In this setting, we find that surprisingly, the more efficient firm can be better off when the abatement cost of its less efficient rival is reduced, provided that the competition is not too intense. We also examine mandatory certification operated by the government and show that a firm may prefer to have a strong rival staying in the market rather than a weak rival exiting the market. The purpose of this paper was to examine the low number of occupational therapy practitioners in the United States that possessed specialty or advanced certification in low vision. The discussion explores possible reasons for this finding, including insufficient educational accreditation standards to prepare occupational therapy students to work with people with visual conditions, lack of clarity on the definition of low vision leading to misalignment with the profession's scope of practice, inconsistent requirements for advanced certification, scarcity of post-professional preparation programs, and other issues. Several accountability clubs and watchdogs issue charity labels for stimulating charitable giving, but research on the impact of such seals of approval built on certification systems is still narrow and contradictory. Based on signaling theory and theory of perceived risk, we develop a framework matching means of signaling trustworthiness by charities and of risk reducing by donors. Additionally, we present results of a study exploring the influence of the Austrian charity label "OSGS" on the donation behavior of 192 survey participants and investigate whether donors are more willing to support charities participating in this self-regulatory program. Our study provides insights into the benefits and constraints of voluntary accountability initiatives and enhances understanding of individuals' motivations for giving. Findings indicate that expectations toward the OSGS are high and partly exaggerated. Nevertheless, we found that generally the OSGS is not crucial for charity choice but mainly beneficial for nonprofits not widely known. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
