Introduction: The aim of this systematic review was to compare the effectiveness of electronic recording with paper-based recording of clinical skills assessments for entry-level health professional students. Methods: A comprehensive database search was undertaken using AMED, CINAHL, CENTRAL, EMBASE, Medline, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Web of Science on 12–16 June 2017, and updated 9 April 2018. Studies investigating electronic and paper-based recordings of clinical skills assessments of students in entry-level health professional programs were eligible for inclusion. Two independent researchers completed screening of studies for inclusion, quality assessments, and data extraction, with discrepancies resolved by consensus. Quality assessment was performed using the Critical Appraisal Skills Program Diagnostic checklist. Results: From 2264 studies identified, five observational cohort studies were included. Published between 2006 and 2016, included studies investigated electronic and paper examinations of clinical skills assessments of students from medical, dentistry, and physical therapy programs. Electronic assessments were reported to be more time efficient than paper-based assessments with an added advantage of no missing data. Quality and quantity of quantitative and qualitative student feedback increased with electronic assessment compared to paper-based assessments. Conclusions: Electronic assessments were used successfully across a range of health professional programs, take significantly less time to complete and provide higher quality feedback to students. Future studies are needed with more robust psychometric testing and cost-effective analysis to inform the increasing uptake of electronic assessment tools in health professional training. The built environment of an older person's home can reduce or promote the possibility of a fall or other injury. A user-friendly tool can help the residents to evaluate their home environment within the context of their specific functional and mobility challenges, so that needed modifications can be identified and completed before an event causing injury occurs. The increasing use of telehealth and other digital technologies has paved the way for technology-based person-initiated home assessments that may allow people to evaluate and improve their homes proactively. The purpose of this literature review was to systematically analyze existing published paper- and technology-based home assessment tools to understand the structure and key characteristics of existing tools and to understand the limitations in existing home assessment tools. This review identified and compared 24 studies based on structure, content, and implementation. While a vast variety of tools and methods currently exist for conducting in-home or remote home assessment for older adults, there is a lack of a comprehensive and user-friendly technology-based tool that older adults can use to conduct an environmental assessment of their home in relation to their functional abilities, such that modifications may be identified that can prevent falls and other injuries. Purpose: The primary objective was to inventory what is currently known about faculty development (FD) for competency-based medical educations (CBME) and identify gaps in the literature. Methods: A scoping review methodology was employed. Inclusion criteria for article selection were established with two reviewers completing a full-text analysis. Quality checks were included, along with iterative consultation on data collection and consensus decision making via a grounded theory approach. Results: The review identified 19 articles published between 2009 and 2018. Most articles (N = 15) offered suggestions as to what should happen with FD in CBME, but few (N = 4) adopted an experimental design. Six main themes were identified with three main features of FD noted across themes: (1) The importance of direct and timely feedback to faculty members on their teaching and assessment skills. (2) The role of establishing shared mental models for CBME curricula. (3) That FD is thought of longitudinally, not as a one-time bolus. Conclusion: This work illustrates that there is limited, high quality research in FD for CBME. Future FD activities should consider employing a longitudinal and multi-modal program format that includes feedback for the faculty participants on their teaching and assessments skills, including the development of faculty coaching skills. Development of the Nurse practitioner role and the specialisation of practice is an increasing focus in healthcare. To date, a bibliometric evaluation of scholarly work referring to Nurse Practitioners, has not been located in the published literature. With the aim of identifying the top 100 cited articles in the Nurse Practitioner domain, the Scopus™ database was searched for Nurse Practitioner studies during 2007–2021. Using bibliometric analysis we identified prolific authors; annual trend; citation rates; countries of origin; and study design. There were 1768 papers identified across 360 peer reviewed journals in 33 countries. Finding from this analysis provides evidence of an evolving research area of inquiry which contributes to knowledge of the Nurse Practitioner role and scope of practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Describing how occupation is used in practice can be challenging for occupational therapists. Occupation-centred, occupation-based, and occupation-focussed terminology are frequently used interchangeably and ambiguously to describe practice. However, ambiguous language creates confusion and inadequately demonstrates the value of occupation. This scoping review aimed to identify how occupation-centred, occupation-based, and occupation-focussed terminology are defined and represented in occupational therapy literature. A five-step scoping review included papers published between 2014 and 2019 from four databases. Extracted data were summarised to outline how the terms were being used within the literature. Initial searching yielded 819 articles and 35 papers met inclusion/exclusion criteria. Within current literature, occupation-focussed and occupation-based terminology were inconsistently described. A limited number of articles used occupation-centred and occupation-focussed terminology to describe practice, whilst occupation-based was more prominent. Occupation-based terminology was represented in numerous ways to describe assessments, practice tools, interventions, research, and theory. Discrepancies between the description and implementation of occupation-based practice were most prominent within interventions. Findings demonstrated that occupation-based and occupation-focussed terminology were used interchangeably and inconsistently in literature. Objectives. The present study aimed to review the changes in anthropometric dimensions around the world during the last 30 years. Methods. The search for this study was conducted in four databases with related keywords. Papers from 1990 to 2021 were reviewed and 4139 articles were identified, with 505 related titles. Of these, 187 articles met the eligibility criteria, and their whole text was examined; 132 articles were then included for the final review. Results. The reviewed studies showed that a large number of anthropometric dimensions of the human body have become larger than in the past, such as height. Although the increasing trend of anthropometric dimensions in the past has been faster than in recent years, decreasing changes have also been seen in some anthropometric dimensions, such as the human jaw, face width and head width. It should be noted that the main reasons for the changes mentioned in the studies are economics and family income, social conditions, health and nutrition. Conclusion. Since the process of changes in anthropometric dimensions is not always the same, anthropometric data should be updated regularly, and work environments and equipment should be reviewed or redesigned according to the new anthropometric data. Despite guidance to minimize restrictive practice within the UK, seclusion and long-term segregation are necessary to maintain the safety of patients and clinicians. There is little evidence to guide the work of occupational therapists with secluded patients. A literature search identified seven papers that met the study inclusion criteria. A deductive approach to thematic analysis was conducted using the 'Model of Human Occupation' as a theoretical framework to identify issues related to occupational need during a period of seclusion. Findings indicate ways in which occupational therapists could engage with patients in seclusion and suggest a need for future research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a narrative literature review on the evidence relating to the youth worker role with young people in the hospital setting, within which the research gaps and inconsistencies within the body of knowledge available are highlighted. Medline, CINAHL, PsycINFO, AMED and British Nursing Index databases were searched and screened for papers which involved the youth worker role with young people in a hospital setting. Data relating to the youth workers who worked with young people in the hospital setting were extracted by two independent reviewers. A total of 11 papers were identified dating from 1971 to 2018, from a range of countries. In order to present the available body of knowledge, this narrative synthesis of the literature is presented under three headings: descriptive work, service evaluation and empirical research. The findings suggest that the youth worker role in the hospital setting has a positive impact upon the lives of young people and this was accomplished through the interventions the youth worker employed when working with young people. Equally, challenges were highlighted relating to the youth worker undertaking their role in the hospital setting. However, changes during this time period in attitudes towards adolescent health particularly within the United Kingdom, along with the loss of funding for youth work has had an impact on the research in this area of clinical practice. The number of descriptive papers in this review, highlights the necessity for empirical evidence in both quantitative and qualitative research in order to gain a greater understanding of what the youth worker role in the hospital provides to young people and the impact of their interventions from the perspectives of young people, parents, youth workers and members of the multi-disciplinary team. To describe the amount, range, and key characteristics (e.g., publication years, methods, topics) of the person-centered rehabilitation literature in adults with physical impairments. Following the published scoping review protocol, papers were identified through: three major databases, snowball searches and expert consultation. Two independent reviewers have identified English-language papers on adult person-centered rehabilitation according to six pre-defined inclusion categories – theoretical, quantitative and qualitive research papers are included; and then have extracted their key characteristics (e.g., aims, methods, participants). Descriptive statistics, regression and content analyses were used to synthesize the results. Of 5912 deduplicated records initially screened, 170 papers were included: 136 empirical, including 13 systematic reviews. Empirical papers had data from 15264 clients and 4098 providers, in total. Yearly publications grew significantly from 2009 to 2018 (r2 = 0.71; b = 1.98: p < 0.01). Publications were unevenly distributed by countries (e.g., United States' publications per population was 44 times lower than New Zealand's). Most papers focused in more than one profession, setting-type or health conditions. Finally, many empirical papers (n = 67) studied implementation of person-centered rehabilitation approaches, including its effect. This scoping review synthesizes key characteristics and publication trends in the person-centered rehabilitation literature on adults with physical impairments, a growing but unchartered territory thus far. This large and diverse body of literature can ground further person-centered rehabilitation practices and research, including toward building a transdisciplinary, trans-service model of person-centered rehabilitation. The person-centered rehabilitation literature on adults with physical impairments, especially the empirical one, has been growing significantly over time, despite inequitably distributed per countries. Rehabilitation stakeholders, including practitioners, have a growing amount of literature in which they can rely for the operationalization and implementation of person-centered rehabilitation approaches into routine practice. Objective/Aim: To examine the experiences of culturally safe mentoring programmes described by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nurses and midwives in Australia. Design: A systematic scoping review. Data Sources: The following databases were accessed: CINAHL Plus with Full Text (EBSCO), EMCARE (Ovid), MEDLINE (Ovid), INFORMIT (Health Collection/Indigenous Collection) and SCOPUS. Support relating to key words and appropriate databases was provided by a university librarian. Review Methods: Search terms across databases were sourced from 1997–2021, identifying a total of 161 papers. Title/abstract searches were screened against the inclusion/exclusion criteria, resulting in 18 papers reaching full-text review. Of the 18 full-text papers reviewed, six were eligible for inclusion in the final review. Results/Findings: Culturally safe mentorship was a positive experience for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nurses and midwives. Thematic discussion identified three key themes: Mentorship as a way forward, Culture in mentorship, and Cultural safety's role in mentorship. Discussion: Culturally safe mentoring has been a key recommendation in the nursing literature for over 20 years. There is limited knowledge on what constitutes an effective programme as mentoring programmes have not been empirically evaluated or reviewed. Conclusion: This review provides evidence that Cultural Safety and the exploration of culture impact culturally safe mentoring and can impact workforce cultural capability. Effective intersectoral collaboration across health and education has been a policy priority for decades as a means of meeting the needs of children with neurodevelopmental disorders in school yet remains rare in practice. A meta-ethnography was undertaken to explore the experiences of occupational therapists (OTs) and speech and language therapists (SLTs) with the aim of contributing new insights into the nature of their collaborative work in schools, and how it may best be facilitated. Electronic and manual searches were conducted. Papers were double-screened and critically appraised. A line of argument analysis was undertaken. Fourteen papers were analyzed, reporting the experiences of 369 practitioners from schools across six countries. Five concepts were identified: (a) negotiating liminal professional spaces; (b) gaining entry; (c) collaborative endeavor; (d) collaborative inertia; and (e) collaborative conviction. We describe the complex, effortful, and relational nature of intersectoral collaboration. We propose a conceptualization of SLT and OT collaborative practice in schools as articulation work, with elements of boundary work, much of which is invisible and non-routine. We argue the need for collaborative leadership to promote knowledge and awareness of the role of SLTs and OTs in school, and to support the contextual integration of their relational work in this setting. The validity of driving simulators is a topic that has been addressed ever since their first use. In practice, a comparison of field data and simulator data is often used for validation purposes. A systematic literature search was conducted which identified large heterogeneity in both study designs and statistical methods used in research on simulator validity. Most of the included studies concluded simulator validity (thus equivalence of field data and simulator data) from non-significant results in Null-Hypothesis Significance Testing (NHST), which is a well-known yet somewhat controversial practice. In this work, the consequences of both study design choice and the choice of the statistical method are outlined and alternatives such as using Bayes factor hypothesis testing and equivalence tests are discussed and applied to a real data example. The present paper is intended to shed light on the influence of the statistical method on conclusions drawn from experimental data. For research on driving simulator validity, we highly encourage the use of equivalence tests or Bayes factor hypothesis tests, in particular when evidence of the data suggests that an effect might be absent. This paper offers a 25-year scoping review of psychoanalytic journal articles on premature birth from 1997 to 2021. Given the prevalence of prematurity and its impact on infant development and parenting, this is an area which requires engagement and research. 28 papers were found in psychoanalytic journals. This review summarizes the extent, range and nature of this research, identifying trends in theorizing about premature infancy and gaps in the literature. The overall lack of articles on the topic of prematurity is highlighted and possible reasons for this are suggested. These include the practical challenges as well as the intensity of emotional pain inherent in working with prematurity. The findings highlight the trauma experienced by both premature infants and their parents. Prematurity may also place the parent-infant relationship at risk. The therapeutic imperative of interacting with the infant as a person is strongly emphasised. Research suggests working in the NICU is emotionally evocative. However, a case is made for the critical role that psychoanalytic practitioners can play in supporting those impacted by premature infancy. The need for exposure to this topic is highlighted. Gaps in the literature appear in relation to sibling experience, experiences of fathers of premature infants, and the intersubjective processes occurring between premature infants and their parents. The alternative format PhD, in which doctoral candidates produce a thesis composed of a series of peer reviewed publications, is growing in popularity internationally. However, across the HE (HE) system in the United Kingdom (UK), universities have been slower to adopt the alterative thesis format. This paper presents a systematic narrative review to understand the development of institutional-level policies pertaining to the alternative thesis format across UK HE institutions (n = 135), identifying best practice and opportunities for improvement. The paper evidences a fragmented policy landscape in which there is a notable lack of consistent and coherent policy and guidance across institutions, that may in fact compound existing inequalities in doctoral provision. Recommendations are made to encourage the design of institutional policies that support PhD candidates to opt for the alterative format thesis where appropriate, with wide ranging implications for the HE sector. The aim of this study was to synthesize previous knowledge about ethics in nurses' interprofessional collaboration in clinical practice. Although healthcare professionals have common goals and shared values, ethical conflicts still arise during patient care. We carried out a meta-synthesis of peer-reviewed papers published in any language from 2013–2019, using both electronic searches, with the CINAHL, PubMed, Scopus, and SocINDEX databases, and manual searches. We identified 4,763 papers and selected six qualitative papers, and three theoretical papers, based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria and quality appraisal. The studies came from the USA, Canada, Sweden, Australia, Botswana, and the Netherlands. We found that in ethics studies on nurses' interprofessional collaboration in clinical practice the focus has been on factors that affect how patients receive care. These factors were patients' wishes, whether they were told the truth about their condition, and how different professionals recognized and treated their pain. The focus in the papers we reviewed was on the roles of different professionals during the care process, including ethical conflicts with regard to their aims, commitment, and the balance of power among them and other professions. More research is needed to raise the visibility of how nurses and other professionals recognize, and evaluate, their professional and interprofessional ethics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Enhanced primary care management of common mental and substance use disorders is a key healthcare target. Though primary care may be well placed to achieve this target, a greater understanding of the prevalence and profile of common mental and substance use disorders in primary care settings is needed. We searched the MEDLINE database (2002–2012) to provide an update on biomedical literature describing the prevalence of common mental and substance use disorders in European general practice. Following “PRISMA” guidelines, 17 studies were kept for qualitative synthesis. Prevalence, profile, screening instruments, associated co-morbidities, and gender distribution were tabulated. Depending on the screening method, the prevalence of common mental and substance use disorders ranged from 10.4% (Luxemburg) to 53.6% (Spain). Mood disorders were the most common. High co-morbidity with anxiety and somatisation hindered early identification and management. The continuing burden of common mental and substance use disorders, coupled with poor identification described in the updated EU biomedical literature, suggests that the unmet need for health care – identified by the World Health Organization a decade ago – remains unmet. Understanding the prevalence of common mental and substance use disorders, associated morbidity, and the extent to which general practice represents an important catchment mechanism can enhance their management at this level. With an increasing recognition of the importance of mental and substance use disorders (MESUDS) for population health and health systems and the potential value of systems-based performance indicators in addressing this issue, we aimed to describe the development and content of key performance indicators (KPIs) for MESUDS. Publications were identified through official websites, Google searches and PubMed. Following “PRISMA” guidelines, 25 studies were kept for qualitative synthesis and six for quantitative analysis. We describe their use in practice by comparing their application across a range of public and mixed healthcare systems. Currently, the KPI development for MESUDS adopts several methodologies, including expert opinion, literature review, stakeholder consultation, and the structured consensus method. The rationales provided for selection of particular KPIs vary greatly between systems. Systems exhibit different levels of KPI adaptability, which is reflective of dynamic changes in evidence-based practices. We noted bias in the level of KPI assessment toward system/health plan evaluation followed by program/service evaluation. Similarly, there is a large skew toward KPIs that reflect evaluation of processes. Collection of data in all systems is nearly exclusively reliant on electronic administrative/medical data. We analyzed and quantified the 100 most frequently cited papers in macular imaging using optical coherence tomography (OCT). The databases of the Institute for Scientific Information databases utilized for identification of articles in macular imaging using OCT over the last 25 years since the introduction of OCT in ophthalmology. All articles containing "optical coherence tomography" and "retina" without "glaucoma". The publication dates of the 100 most-cited articles ranged from 1991 to 2015, with the greatest number of articles published in the 2000s, while the total number of citations per article was greatest for articles published in the 1990s. Most studies were conducted in the U.S. and represented Level-IV clinical outcome studies indicating that also small case series or cohort studies could gain attention. Over the past two decades, researchers have reported positive life skills outcomes for young people participating in sport-based life-skills programs. However, to date, there has been a lack of consideration in the literature regarding the quality of the programs designed and the evaluation methods adopted. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review of the life skills literature to: (a) assess the quality of sport-based life skills program design and evaluation methods; and (b) identify characteristics relating to the quality of sport-based life skills programs where authors had evidenced life skills development and transfer. Using the PRISMA guidelines, we searched six databases for relevant research papers and applied inclusion and exclusion criteria to the papers returned, of which 15 papers met the criteria. We conducted two quality assessment exercises (design and evaluation methods) and found three moderate-high quality life skills programs, 11 moderate quality programs, and one low quality program. We present the characteristics (regarding quality) of intervention designs and methods, conclude with recommendations for designing quality sport-based life skills programs, and provide guidelines for researchers to evaluate sport-based life skills programs. Lay summary: Through engaging in sport-based life skills programs, young people can develop transferable skills. However, the quality of these life skills programs is unclear. We assess the quality of the design and evaluation methods of sport-based life skills programs, present the characteristics of moderate-high and moderate quality programs, and offer recommendations for future research and practice. The characteristics identified can be used to aid the development of the content, delivery and evaluation methods within future sport-based life skills programs. The quality assessment tool (QATID) that is embedded within this paper can be used by applied researchers to ensure that the design of their life skills interventions is of high quality. By using the QATID and the Mixed Method Appraisal Tool (MMAT) when designing and evaluating sport-based life skills programs, applied researchers can validate better subsequent claims of program effectiveness. Physiological differences between a maturing and matured brain alters how Sports-Related Concussion (SRC) affects different age groups; therefore, a review specific to university-aged student-athletes is needed. Determine time to recovery for symptom burden, neurocognitive and Vestibular-Ocular-Motor (VOM) function and academic impact in university-aged student-athletes. Searches were conducted in PubMed, SpringerLink, PsycINFO, Science Direct, Scopus, Cochrane, Web of Science and EMBASE. Articles were included if they contained original data collected within 30 days in university-aged student-athletes, analysed SRC associated symptoms, neurocognitive or VOM function or academic ability and published in English. Two reviewers independently reviewed sources, using the Oxford Classification of Evidence-Based Medicine (CEBM) and the Downs and Black checklist, and independently extracting data before achieving consensus. 58 articles met the inclusion criteria. Recovery of symptoms occurred by 7 and 3–5.3 days for neurocognition. The evidence base did not allow for a conclusion on recovery time for VOM function or academic ability. Few papers investigated recovery times at specified re-assessment time-points and have used vastly differing methodologies. To fully understand the implication of SRC on the university-aged student-athlete' studies using a multi-faceted approach at specific re-assessments time points are required. Research on patient-centeredness within physiotherapy points to a need for clarification about what the concept entails in science and practice and how research positions itself within health care. Thus, the aim is to systematically map the characteristics of research on patient-centeredness in physiotherapy and critically discuss the dominant understandings within. A systematic research mapping was carried out, based on searches in leading bibliographic databases. Four categories were selected in order to characterize the research field: focus, design, theoretical approach and inherent logic. Of 5,324 studies, 101 were included in the final mapping, pointing to a limited amount of research. The papers included were published in 47 different journals. Two major research foci emerges: one testing or developing technologies (tools) to promote patient-centeredness and one exploring patients' or professionals' experiences related to physiotherapy practice. Most papers reported on empirical research and there seems to be a dearth of conceptual papers. The theoretical approaches applied were mainly psychological, pedagogical and biomedical. The papers included were divided into equal amounts of studies carried out within inherent logics of causality and complexity. The mapping suggests an incipient awareness of patient-centeredness within the research field of physiotherapy. Empirical studies dominate the field, whereas conceptual and critical papers seem in need of wider acknowledgment. The research field is divided into two mutually disconnected trends: one concerned with understanding the complexity of clinical practice and patients' experiences of treatment and illness, and another trend concerned with solving "the problem" of patient involvement. Given the positive outcomes of patient-centred care on health outcomes, future doctors should learn how to deliver patient-centred care. The literature describes a wide variety of educational interventions with standardized patients (SPs) that focus on learning patient-centredness. However, it is unclear which mechanisms are responsible for learning patient-centredness when applying educational interventions with SPs. This study aims to clarify how healthcare learners and professionals learn patient-centredness through interventions involving SPs in different healthcare educational contexts. A realist approach was used to focus on what works, for whom, in what circumstances, in what respect and why. Databases were searched through 2019. Nineteen papers were included for analysis. Through inductive and deductive coding, CIC'MO configurations were identified to build partial program theories. These CIC'MOs describe how Interventions with SPs change the Context (C→C') such that Mechanisms (M) are triggered that are expected to foster patient-centredness as Outcome. Interventions with SPs create three contexts which are 'a safe learning environment,' 'reflective practice,' and 'enabling people to learn together.' These contexts trigger the following seven mechanisms: feeling confident, feeling a sense of comfort, feeling safe, self-reflection, awareness, comparing & contrasting perspectives, combining and broadening perspectives. A tentative final program theory with mechanisms belonging to three main learning components (cognitive, regulative metacognitive and affective) is proposed: Interventions with SPs create a safe learning environment (C') in which learners gain feelings of confidence, comfort and safety (affective M). This safe learning environment enables two other mutual related contexts in which learners learn together (C'), through comparing & contrasting, combining and broadening their perspectives (cognitive M) and in which reflective practice (C') facilitates self-reflection and awareness (metacognitive M) in order to learn patient-centeredness. This paper investigated the effect of dance and exercise on the health promotion of adults with mental health disorders. As mental health is a social issue, the characteristics of physical movement through dance and exercise were reviewed to find ways to effectively approach mental health services and treatment. Based on existing papers, a systematic review was conducted using Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Scopus to comprehensively investigate and organise the correlation between physical movement and mental health, the characteristics of dance therapy, and psychotherapy of exercise. Studies have shown that dance and exercise therapy helps reduce side effects, relieve depression and anxiety from actual antipsychotics, and helps to recognise one's problems and increase the willingness to treat them. Ballester et al.'s (2021) Ballester and colleagues' review of family-based drug prevention programs has at least two fundamental methodological problems that bring its results, and the conclusions drawn from these, into question. The first problem concerns the use of brief narrative summaries of the results from each paper that do not always accurately describe the results reported. The second problem concerns the failure to adequately describe the assessment of various forms of bias present in each of the papers reviewed. These problems are illustrated by examining the way in which Ballester et al. assessed potential outcome reporting bias in the seven papers from evaluations of the Strengthening Families Program 10–14 (SFP 10–14) included in their review and the manner in which they selectively highlight positive results from these papers in their narrative summaries while ignoring results that support the null hypothesis of no effect. Interventions to improve mental health can target individuals, working groups, their leaders, or organisations, also known as the Individual, Group, Leader, and Organisational (IGLO) levels of intervention. Evaluating such interventions in organisational settings is complex and requires sophisticated evaluation designs taking into account the intervention process. In the present systematic literature review, we present state of the-art of quantitative measures of process evaluation. We identified 39 papers. We found that measures had been developed to explore the organisational context, the intervention design, and the mental models of the intervention and its activities. Quantitative process measures are often poorly validated, and only around half of the studies linked the process to intervention outcomes. Fifteen studies used mixed methods for process evaluation. Most often, a qualitative process evaluation was used to understand unexpected intervention outcomes. Despite the existence of theoretical process evaluation frameworks, these were not often employed, and even when included, frameworks were rarely acknowledged, and only selected elements were included. Based on our synthesis, we propose a new framework for evaluating interventions, the Integrative Process Evaluation Framework (IPEF), together with reflections on how we may optimise the use of quantitative process evaluation in conjunction with a qualitative process evaluation. Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) has a significant impact on women's lives, especially among young women who miss school and work due to painful periods. Experiences and how women manage PD have been explored to some extent, but the evidence has not been systematically collated and reviewed to allow health professionals to better understand women's experiences of and perceptions about PD. Hence, we aim to synthesize the qualitative evidence related to women's experiences of PD and associated symptoms. For this purpose, seven databases (Ovid MEDLINE®, PubMed, Embase, APA PsycINFO, Web of Science, CINAHL and OpenGrey) were searched for relevant papers published in English, Spanish, Greek and Chinese between January 1997 and May 2021. All studies investigating women's experiences with PD were included; besides, The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) tool for qualitative studies was used to critically appraise the papers. A data extraction form was developed using JBI template and findings from the papers were analyzed and synthesized using meta-aggregation. Sixteen articles were included and during the analysis five themes were identified: Experiencing pain and associated symptoms, the psychological dimension of PD, knowledge and support, day-to-day living with PD, and coping strategies. We concluded taboos and deeply rooted beliefs around menstruation can potentially lead to gender inequalities; hence, women's common concerns and their experiences with PD need to be considered. Training and treatment protocols for health practitioners are needed. Future research should focus on development and testing of protocols for diagnosis, pharmacological and non-pharmacological management and men's perceptions of menstruation of their lovers. For children with mobility impairments, without cognitive delays, who want to participate in outdoor activities, existing assistive technology (AT) to support their needs is limited. In this review, we investigate the control and design of a selection of robotic walkers while exploring a selection of legged robots to develop solutions that address this gap in robotic AT. We performed a comprehensive literature search from four main databases: PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and IEEE Xplore. The keywords used in the search were the following: "walker", "rollator", "smart walker", "robotic walker", "robotic rollator". Studies were required to discuss the control or design of robotic walkers to be considered. A total of 159 papers were analyzed. From the 159 papers, 127 were excluded since they failed to meet our inclusion criteria. The total number of papers analyzed included publications that utilized the same device, therefore we classified the remaining 32 studies into groups based on the type of robotic walker used. This paper reviewed 15 different types of robotic walkers. The ability of many-legged robots to negotiate and transition between a range of unstructured substrates suggests several avenues of future consideration whose pursuit could benefit robotic AT, particularly regarding the present limitations of wheeled paediatric robotic walkers for children's daily outside use. Children with lower limb disabilities can benefit from assistive technology designed for daily usage in outdoor surroundings. An extension of existing robotic assistive technology that allows the user to travel safely on irregular surfaces both indoors and outdoors is needed. Approaches used to solve research problems in the field of robotics (outside of the rehabilitation area) can be used to address problems that robotic assistive technology currently faces. The Internet of Things (IoT) is expanding rapidly and can potentially be a huge data source. This study aimed to close the knowledge gap about possible IoT applications in health care. English-language academic publications from the Web of Science (WoS) were used for the present study. Bibliometric networks were used to analyze pertinent publications to examine the connections between authors, nations, and affiliations. Papers on digital health care have been published in more than 1195 sources, among which the most popular was the Journal of Medical Internet Research. Six top institutions were from the Netherlands, making the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam the most productive institution after Australia and England. This study provides an overview of IoT-related research conducted in digital health care, helping academic researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to better understand the development of digital health care research. Caring for a relative with dementia can be extremely challenging especially when someone presents with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). The training provided to informal carers is varied and inconsistent. Group-based training programmes are often prescribed but their impact on care-recipient wellbeing and symptomology is yet to be well established. This review synthesises the literature on consensus, themes and effectiveness of informal-carer, group-based educational training programmes on BPSD symptoms. Ten papers were included of which very few considered BPSD outcomes as their primary aim of investigation. Methodological and theoretical approaches across the empirical papers varied considerably. Generally, studies of higher quality and with some positive results on BPSD outcomes tended to incorporate teaching on structured problem-solving skills. Studies measuring for longer term changes also tended to conclude more beneficial outcomes. The length and duration of groups and the group-sizes appeared inconsequential to BPSD outcomes. The empirical evidence is weak for carer group interventions in the management of BPSD. Practice reasons for this are discussed. High health literacy (HL) is important to optimise health outcomes, particularly for older people (who are substantial consumers of health services) and their adult caregivers. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate measurement properties of HL instruments tested with these population groups. Six databases (MEDLINE (OVID); CINAHL; EMBASE (OVID); PsycInfo; Scopus; Cochrane Library) were searched for studies evaluating eight measurement properties of HL tools administered to older people or their caregivers. Only studies evaluating multi-domain self-report HL tools were included in analyses, using the COSMIN methodology. From 4261 unique papers located, 11 met inclusion criteria; six reported measurement properties of three HL self-report tools administered to older people (HLQ, eHEALS, and HeLMS) so are reported in this review, none involved caregiver samples. The HLQ and HeLMS were rated "moderate," and eHEALS "low" for tool development. The HLQ, examined in four included studies, had the highest ratings and quality of evidence across the three measurement properties investigated in included papers. The HLQ was the most highly rated self-report HL tool of just three tested with older people. Further studies evaluating measurement properties of self-report HL tools used with older people and/or their caregivers are needed. Health literacy is important to optimise health outcomes of interventions for older people and their adult caregivers. Few studies have evaluated measurement properties of self-report / multi-domain health literacy tools for this population. The Health Literacy Questionnaire (HLQ) had the highest ratings and quality of evidence across the three measurement properties investigated in included studies, and is recommended for use in rehabilitation settings. Knowledge syntheses in medical education are intended to promote the translation to, and mobilization of, research knowledge into practice. Despite the effort invested in conducting them, how these knowledge syntheses are used is unclear. This study aimed to explore how knowledge syntheses published by the Best Evidence Medical Education Collaboration (BEME) have been used in a cross-section of published literature. Citation patterns for BEME reviews were explored using data drawn from Web of Science and Scopus, and a sub-sample of citing papers. Bibliometric data on 3419 papers citing 29 BEME reviews were analysed. More detailed data were extracted from a random sample of 629 full-text papers. BEME reviews were most often positioned to consolidate and summarize the current state of knowledge on a particular topic and to identify gaps in the literature; they were also used to justify current research, and less frequently to contextualize and explain results, or direct future areas of research. Their use to identify instruments or methodological approaches was relatively absent. While BEME reviews are primarily used to justify and support other studies, the current literature does not demonstrate their translation to educational practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study presents a novel method for evaluating the scientific research papers in the field of assistive technologies pertaining to different impairment conditions. The objectives are to understand the technologies used for addressing the needs of PWD by identifying relevant criteria for the assessment, explore the implications of these technologies in their lives and identify the gaps among certain technologies in assisting PWD. In this article, we reviewed around 40 research scientific papers in relation to the technologies used to assist PWD in their daily activities. A novel quantitative assessment methodology based on Multi-weighted Scoring Model (MWSM) has been developed. It is based on the judgement of clinical experts according to thirteen well-defined criteria. The proposed method is useful because it assesses the scientific studies related to PWD qualitatively according to efficient research coverage, as well as quantitatively in order to have good comparative judgment. Worldwide, over 61 million people suffer from symptoms caused by conditions which could be helped by Palliative Care. Physiotherapy is increasingly utilised as part of the multi-disciplinary team in providing Palliative Care, but this is not widely accepted by physiotherapists whose attitudes and beliefs towards it may be framed by the absence of the topic in their undergraduate education. To evaluate the literature relating to the effect of Palliative Care education interventions on the attitudes and beliefs of Physiotherapy undergraduate students. A structured search on Academic Search Ultimate, MEDLINE Complete, CINAHL Complete, APA PsycInfo, Education Source, Communication Source, SPORTDiscus with Full Text, Business Source Ultimate, SocINDEX with Full Text, and Regional Business News was conducted in October 2020. Articles were limited to peer-reviewed journals published in English and involving an educational intervention delivered to pre-qualification Physiotherapy students. Four papers were included which all measured change in attitudes and beliefs. Three papers showed a significant positive change in students' attitudes and beliefs towards PC, and one showing a positive but non-significant change. There was no consensus on the ideal curriculum content, delivery method or time. PC content within the curriculum is still in its formative stages within Physiotherapy education. While there is currently no consensus on the ideal method and format of how it should be delivered, there is some evidence to suggest that it can have a positive impact on Physiotherapy students' attitudes and beliefs towards PC. Strengthening the health literacy (HL) skills of the healthcare users is a multicomponent process involving the users, the healthcare professionals, the stakeholders, and the environment. Health organizations, universities, private initiatives, and funded projects focused on developing and implementing continuing education courses target at increasing healthcare professionals' HL. This scoping review aimed at reporting the HL continuing education courses for healthcare professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills in identifying and supporting healthcare users with limited HL, and particularly, older people. This review followed the five stages by Arksey and O'Malley framework and the guidelines by Joanna Briggs Institute for scoping reviews. Peer-reviewed papers and gray literature published between years 2000 to 2020 were included in this bibliometric search utilizing four electronic databases (PUBMED, MEDLINE, CINAHL, PSYCHINFO, and Opengrey). Twenty-seven (27) papers met the criteria, including twenty-one (21) full-texts and six (6) other records (website contents, eLearning, and funded projects). There is a lack of HL tools that address the training needs of healthcare professionals working with older adults. Ergonomics for environmental sustainability has been rapidly gaining attention in the scientific community. So far, a large part of the literature has focussed on specific dimensions of ergonomics for environmental sustainability, such as green designs, green buildings, environmental education, and sustainability frameworks. However, there is a necessity for an integrated study that presents the summary of published literature supported by detailed bibliometric characteristics. To address this gap, this study examined 418 articles on ergonomics for environmental sustainability and analysed them through bibliometric and network analysis. Major findings reveal the publication trends in ergonomics for environmental sustainability starting from 2011 to the present, the most productive and influential authors, and the most influential articles. This study also identifies the co-citation structure, bibliographical couplings and keyword co-occurrences among these articles. Findings from this study also provide a summary of the current research and present a robust roadmap for future directions in ergonomics for environmental sustainability. The mental health of the farming community across industrialised nations has long been a major concern. Using an adapted procedure for a systematic literature review of observational epidemiological studies reporting prevalence (informed by the Joanna Briggs Institute method), this paper reviews peer-reviewed literature that explicitly compares farmer and non-farmer mental health (n = 48). In doing so, it provides a central and accessible evidence base for researchers and practitioners, and simultaneously reveals a stark lack of consensus; specifically, 54.0% of measures deployed to assess farmer mental health determined it to be the same as or even better than non-farming populations. This ambiguity sits in sharp contrast to the unequivocally worrisome farmer suicide statistics. Informed by the literature, the paper discusses potential reasons for this mismatch, including (i) farmers' progression through a different "pathway" to suicide that is not always preceded by mental illness, and (ii) a failure of current methods to accurately gauge the mental health status of farmers. The paper concludes by recommending more research into farmers' "pathway" to suicide, and highlights the need for a dedicated and multi-disciplinary programme of methods research that will afford a more culturally appropriate and effective means of understanding mental health in the farming community. This systematic review examines the impact of assistive technology (AT) on educational and psychosocial outcomes for students with disabilities (SWDs) in higher education. Qualitative, quantitative and mixed method studies were identified through systematic searches of five databases: PsycINFO, PubMed, CINAHL, ERIC and Web of Science (Social Science Citation Index). The search was conducted in January 2018. Thematic synthesis was carried out to collate findings across papers and the methodological quality of included papers was assessed using a Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). Twenty-six papers were included for analysis. Four analytic themes were identified; "AT as an enabler of academic engagement"; "barriers to effective AT use can hinder academic engagement"; "the transformative possibilities of AT from a psychological perspective"; and "AT as an enabler of participation". This systematic review identifies that AT can promote educational, psychological and social benefits for SWD. However, AT users and AT officers must be aware of certain factors, such as inadequate AT training, inadequacies of devices, availability of external support and the challenge of negotiating multiple information sources, can hinder effective AT use and thus restrict engagement in the higher education environment. Future AT practices should focus on harnessing the potential of mainstream devices as AT for all students, thus facilitating inclusion and reducing stigma. Students with disabilities face academic, psychological and social challenges within the higher education environment. Assistive technology (AT) use can enable academic engagement and social participation and be transformative from a psychological perspective. Disability support staff in higher education should ensure that the AT needs of students with disabilities are met in order to enhance the educational experience. The drive towards living well with dementia has resulted in a growing recognition of the value of community-based participatory arts activities. This review aimed to explore their overall impact and holistic benefits for people with early to moderate stages of dementia. Using a scoping review methodology and thematic analysis, this review explored relevant literature published between 2008 and 2019. 26 published papers were identified, comprising visual arts, literary arts, comedy, music and dance. The key themes included person-centred, in-the-moment approaches; participation and communication; attention and cognition; social cohesion and relationships; and the role of space, place and objects. There is strong evidence in support of using participatory arts for dementia, regardless of art form. In-the-moment and person-centred approaches were deemed impactful. Further research is needed to explore the importance of setting, material culture and the methodological or theoretical perspectives in participatory arts and dementia research. The interprofessional education (IPE) literature abounds with examples of IPE and their evaluations, invariably demonstrating improved outcomes for collaborative care. The aim of this research was to identify models of IPE in health curricula reported in the literature to clarify key characteristics of the models. Searches were conducted in Pubmed (Ebsco), CINAHL (Ebsco), Cochrane Library, PsychINFO (Ebsco), Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases for articles describing models of IPE. A total of 25 papers met the inclusion criteria. Models fell broadly into: (a) extra-curricular activities or partially integrated models (28%), and (b) integrated models, that is, models where IP activities were embedded across the whole curriculum (72%). A total of 40% of included papers presented phased models designed to incrementally develop interprofessional capability. However, major barriers exist to fully integrated interprofessional curricula: they require a major curriculum restructure, and a willingness on the part of health professionals to reconsider their professional identities. A curriculum that focuses on the patient and on ways to deliver the most appropriate personalized care is proposed. In such a curriculum, the focus can shift from profession-based care to expertise-based care that is likely to be delivered by a team of skilled health professionals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Task Load Index (TLX) is the predominant instrument for self-reporting workload. On the basis of a meta-analytic review of 556 studies, this paper supplies reference values for TLX and its six subscales across domains, technologies, regions, and real-life/lab settings. Across domains, TLX spans mean values from 35 for leisure to 56 for manual labour. TLX tends to be driven upward by the subscales of mental demand and effort and downward by the subscales of physical demand and frustration. For technologies, handheld devices are associated with lower TLX, possibly because they are simpler and more task-specific. TLX also varies across regions in that it is higher for studies in Asia than in Europe and North America. This variation is only partly explained by co-variation in domains. Furthermore, TLX is higher and its subscales more inter-correlated when it is studied in real-life rather than lab settings. Practitioner summary: Practitioners can use the reference values supplied in this paper to benchmark their TLX measurements against those from the corpus of TLX research. This scoping review aims to examine the caregiving experiences of Korean American caregivers of persons with dementia. A comprehensive electronic search was conducted within 5 databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, Embase, PsycINFO-ProQuest) for papers published from 01/01/00 −01/24/22. Seventeen articles met the inclusion criteria. Thematic analysis was used to summarize key findings from these papers. Most Korean American dementia caregivers were immigrants and wives/daughters/daughters-in-law. Two themes emerged: 1) how Korean American caregivers perceived their caregiving experiences, and 2) how Korean American caregivers perceived their caregiving support services. Korean American caregivers often experience poor mental health and burden. Social support and familism were found to be two of the most important factors that determine their attitudes toward caregiving. Most reported barriers to utilizing public services. Challenges in finding culturally relevant resources were common. Dementia caregiving is a significant public health problem facing Korean Americans. Recommendations for future research are provided. This meta-synthesis aimed to synthesise qualitative evidence on experiences of people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in receiving a diagnosis, to derive a conceptual understanding of adjustment to MS diagnosis. Five electronic databases were systematically searched to identify qualitative studies that explored views and experiences around MS diagnosis. Papers were quality-appraised using a standardised checklist. Data synthesis was guided by principles of meta-ethnography, a well-established interpretive method for synthesising qualitative evidence. Thirty-seven papers were selected (with 874 people with MS). Synthesis demonstrated that around the point of MS diagnosis people experienced considerable emotional upheaval (e.g., shock, denial, anger, fear) and difficulties (e.g., lengthy diagnosis process) that limited their ability to make sense of their diagnosis, leading to adjustment difficulties. However, support resources (e.g., support from clinicians) and adaptive coping strategies (e.g., acceptance) facilitated the adjustment process. Additionally, several unmet emotional and informational support needs (e.g., need for personalised information and tailored emotional support) were identified that, if addressed, could improve adjustment to diagnosis. Our synthesis highlights the need for providing person-centred support and advice at the time of diagnosis and presents a conceptual map of adjustment for designing interventions to improve adjustment following MS diagnosis. The period surrounding Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis can be stressful and psychologically demanding. Challenges and disruptions at diagnosis can threaten sense of self, resulting in negative emotions. Adaptive coping skills and support resources could contribute to better adjustment following diagnosis. Support interventions should be tailored to the needs of newly diagnosed people. This scoping review aims to (1) synthesise the research findings on the experiences of individuals with acquired brain injuries, and their families, when interacting with, or accessing, community-based services and (2) identify where gaps in service provision may exist and their cause. A systematic search strategy was employed across multiple databases to identify all studies relating to the experiences of individuals with acquired brain injuries and their families when interacting with, or accessing, community-based services. Inclusion was assessed by at least two reviewers at each stage and data extraction was completed by one researcher and validity checked by another. A narrative synthesis was employed. A total of 101 papers met the inclusion criteria with the narrative synthesis identifying three main themes of (1) unmet needs, (2) types of access, and (3) barriers to access. The results identify that those with acquired brain injuries, and their families, experience significant difficulties interacting with community-based services and often do not receive appropriate access. Many barriers to access were identified including a lack of knowledge of the long-term effects of acquired brain injury amongst professionals working in health and social care services. Brain injury is a leading cause of disability worldwide with a range of physical, cognitive, emotional, and behavioural difficulties. It is important that service users and families are given appropriate information about the long-term difficulties associated with ABI so they are better informed about the types of support they may need upon discharge from hospital. Rehabilitation professionals need to ensure they have good level of knowledge of the difficulties associated with ABI to ensure appropriate access to services for individuals and their families. Foundation years or internships are an important period for junior doctors to apply their knowledge and gain clinical competency. Experiences gained during the foundation years or internships are likely to inform newly qualified doctors' opinions about how they want to continue their career. We aimed to understand how medical doctors' internship experiences influence their career intention/decision. We conducted qualitative evidence synthesis using meta-ethnography. We searched six electronic bibliographic databases for papers published between 2000–2020 and included papers exploring how foundation years or internship experiences shape doctors' career intention/decisions, including in relation to migration, public/private/dual practice preference, rural/urban preference, and specialty choice. We used the GRADE-CERQual framework to rate confidence in review findings. We examined 23 papers out of 6085 citations screened. We abstracted three high-level inter-related themes across 14 conceptual categories: (1) Deciding the personal best fit both clinically and in general (which option is 'more me'?) through hands-on and real-life experiences (2) Exploring, experiencing and witnessing workplace norms; and (3) Worrying about the future in terms of job market policies, future training and professional development opportunities. Confidence in findings varied but was rated high in 8 conceptual categories. Our meta-ethnographic review revealed a range of ways in which internship experience shapes medical doctors' career intentions/decisions allowing us to produce a broad conceptual model of this phenomenon. The results highlight the importance of ensuring sufficient, positive and inspiring clinical exposure, improving workplace environment, relationship and culture, refraining from undermining specific specialities and communicating contractual and job market policies early on to young doctors, in order to attract doctors to less popular specialties or work locations where they are most needed. Background: The experience of workplace violence and aggression is a common occurrence among the nursing and midwifery workforce, however, it is largely under-reported. Reasons for underreporting are not well understood. Aim: To review factors that influence nurses' and midwives' reporting of workplace violence and aggression from patients and visitors in hospital inpatient settings. Method: In this integrative review papers were identified through a search of electronic databases Embase, Emcare, PsychInfo, Medline, and CINAHL for literature between 2009 and 2020. Findings: Five papers met the inclusion criteria. Three themes were identified which influence reporting: organisational culture; accepting violence as part of the job; and type of violence. Discussion: Workplace policies supported by management and education programmes are required to improve the reporting of workplace violence and aggression by nurses and midwives. Conclusion: Workplace violence and aggression is under-reported by nurses and midwives in hospital inpatient settings. Reporting systems are not valued and nurses have come to accept workplace violence and aggression. Further research is required to explore strategies to improve workplace violence and aggression reporting culture and assess current education programmes using validated tools. We aimed to evaluate the existing evidence base for the efficacy of art therapy with parent-infant dyads. We undertook an integrative review, following the PRISMA protocol, systematically searching 4 electronic databases, and grey literature, for papers describing art therapy with parents and infants together. 14 papers were identified for inclusion. These were evaluated for quality, data was synthesised for evidence of change, and we undertook a narrative synthesis of intervention model and thematic analysis drawing together mechanisms of change within the art therapy process. Papers described a group approach to art therapy and contained a mixture of methodological approaches. Themes highlighted the beneficial aspects of the art therapy process that might be common to group psychotherapy approaches and those which were unique to art making, such as the qualities of the materials, the making process and the final art works. The themes identified provide a basis for further research into mechanisms of change within parent-infant art therapy. Those papers which presented quantitative evidence demonstrated promising evidence for the value of art therapy but we identify the need for larger participant numbers and control measures, for this evidence to confidently state the impact of art therapy. Plain language summary This paper is based on a review of the current evidence for an art therapy approach to working with parents and their infants together. We searched data bases and other online sources and put out calls for unpublished work to art therapy organisations. We looked for art therapy for parents together with their 0–3s and this could be with the individual pairs or with groups. We reviewed the papers we found and 14 were included in the final stage of this review. We have compared their models for art therapy work and their results and we have also looked for the common themes about why art therapy seems to be helping in order to provide a solid basis for future research in this area. We think there is promising early evidence that art therapy can help parents and infants in a number of areas, such as building the parent-infant relationship and improving parental well-being but this research highlights the need for further, larger scale and controlled studies. Purpose: The aim of the synthesis was to develop a new understanding about the influences on communication in interprofessional teams from therapist and nurse perspectives. Methods: Six electronic databases were searched, combined with citation tracking and hand searching, yielded 3994 papers. Three researchers were involved in screening and quality appraisal, resulting in 18 papers for synthesis, using the process of meta-ethnography. Concepts were identified, compared and translated under five category headings. Two researchers mapped interpretative summaries and a line of argument was created. Results: The line of argument is that four inter-related contingences underpin effective communication between therapists and nurses. Effective communication depends on there being a genuine need to give and receive information for patient care, the capacity to attend to, hold, and use information, and opportunities to share space to enable communication to occur. The fourth contingency is good quality relationships and this is the glue that holds the contingencies together. Conclusion: This synthesis has provided an opportunity to illuminate how therapists and nurses accomplish interprofessional work through communication. The contingencies of need, capacity, opportunity, and quality of relationships create a new structure for understanding what underpins communication between these two groups. Need, capacity and opportunity should be understood as contingencies that underpin effective communication about patients, strongly centered on the fourth contingency, quality of relationships between professionals. Therapists and nurses should examine what information they genuinely need from each other to effectively conduct integrated care, from the perspective of both giving and receiving information. Consideration should be given to whether a culture of reciprocity might expand the capacity of professionals to attend to, hold and use the information they share about patients. Appropriate screening tools are required to accurately detect complex post traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). This systematic review aimed to assess and compare measurement tools. A literature search using key words 'complex post traumatic stress disorder', 'PTSD', and 'assessment' was undertaken on Embase and PsychINFO during February 2022 by two reviewers. Inclusion criteria included full text papers between 2002–2022 which evaluated CPTSD using assessment tools. Exclusion criteria included reviews, editorials, meta-analyses, or conference abstracts. Twenty-two papers met selection criteria. Thirteen studies used the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ). Two studies each evaluated CPTSD with the International Trauma Interview (ITI) or Symptoms of Trauma Scale (SOTS). The Developmental Trauma Inventory (DTI), Cameron Complex Trauma Interview (CCTI), Complex PTSD Item Set additional to the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale (COPISAC), Complex Trauma Questionnaire (ComplexTQ), and Scale 8 of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Scale (MMPI) were used by a single study each. The ITQ was the most thoroughly investigated, validated across different populations, and is a convenient questionnaire for screening within the clinical setting. Where self-report measures are inappropriate, the ITI, SOTS, and COPISAC are interview tools which detect CPTSD. However, they require further validation and should be used alongside clinical history and examination.
