The aim of this paper is to discuss the main result in the paper by D.Y. Gao and X. Lu [On the extrema of a nonconvex functional with double-well potential in 1D, Z. Angew. Math. Phys. (2016) 67:62]. More precisely we provide a detailed study of the problem considered in that paper, pointing out the importance of the norm on the space $C^{1}[a,b]$; because no norm (topology) is mentioned on $C^{1}[a,b]$ we look at it as being a subspace of $W^{1,p}(a,b)$ for $p\in [1,\infty]$ endowed with its usual norm. We show that the objective function has not local extrema with the mentioned constraints for $p\in [1,4)$, and has (up to an additive constant) only a local maximizer for $p=\infty$, unlike the conclusion of the main result of the discussed paper where it is mentioned that there are (up to additive constants) two local minimizers and a local maximizer. We also show that the same conclusions are valid for the similar problem treated in the preprint by X. Lu and D.Y. Gao [On the extrema of a nonconvex functional with double-well potential in higher dimensions, arXiv:1607.03995]., 12 pages; in this version we added the forgotten condition $F(x) \ne 0$ for $x\in (a,b)$ on page 3

The ecological theory of species interactions rests largely on the competition, interference, and predator–prey models. In this paper, we propose and investigate a three-species predator–prey model to inspect the mutual interference between predators. We analyze boundedness and Kolmogorov conditions for the non-spatial model. The dynamical behavior of the system is analyzed by stability and Hopf bifurcation analysis. The Turing instability criteria for the Spatio-temporal system is estimated. In the numerical simulation, phase portrait with time evolution diagrams shows periodic and chaotic oscillations. Bifurcation diagrams show the very rich and complex dynamical behavior of the non-spatial model. We calculate the Lyapunov exponent to justify the dynamics of the non-spatial model. A variety of patterns like interference, spot, and stripe are observed with special emphasis on Beddington–DeAngelis function response. These complex patterns explore the beauty of the spatio-temporal model and it can be easily related to real-world biological systems.

Månsson and Shukur (Econ Model 28:1475–1481, 2011) proposed a Poisson ridge regression estimator (PRRE) to reduce the negative effects of multicollinearity. However, a weakness of the PRRE is its relatively large bias. Therefore, as a remedy, Türkan and Özel (J Appl Stat 43:1892–1905, 2016) examined the performance of almost unbiased ridge estimators for the Poisson regression model. These estimators will not only reduce the consequences of multicollinearity but also decrease the bias of PRRE and thus perform more efficiently. The aim of this paper is twofold. Firstly, to derive the mean square error properties of the Modified Almost Unbiased PRRE (MAUPRRE) and Almost Unbiased PRRE (AUPRRE) and then propose new ridge estimators for MAUPRRE and AUPRRE. Secondly, to compare the performance of the MAUPRRE with the AUPRRE, PRRE and maximum likelihood estimator. Using both simulation study and real-world dataset from the Swedish football league, it is evidenced that one of the proposed, MAUPRRE ($$ \hat{k}_{q4} $$ k ^ q 4 ) performed better than the rest in the presence of high to strong (0.80–0.99) multicollinearity situation.

Cooperative games form an important class of problems in game theory, where a key goal is to distribute a value among a set of players who are allowed to cooperate by forming coalitions. An outcome of the game is given by an allocation vector that assigns a value share to each player. A crucial aspect of such games is submodularity (or convexity). Indeed, convex instances of cooperative games exhibit several nice properties, e.g. regarding the existence and computation of allocations realizing some of the most important solution concepts proposed in the literature. For this reason, a relevant question is whether one can give a polynomial-time characterization of submodular instances, for prominent cooperative games that are in general non-convex. In this paper, we focus on a fundamental and widely studied cooperative game, namely the spanning tree game. An efficient recognition of submodular instances of this game was not known so far, and explicitly mentioned as an open question in the literature. We here settle this open problem by giving a polynomial-time characterization of submodular spanning tree games.

The main goal of this short paper is to prove the existence of rank 2 simple and special Ulrich bundles on a wide class of elliptic surfaces: namely, on regular Weierstrass fibrations \(\pi : S\rightarrow \mathbb {P}^1\). Alongside we also show the existence of rank 2 weakly Ulrich sheaves on arbitrary Weierstrass fibrations \(S\rightarrow C_0\) and we deal with the (non-)existence of rank one Ulrich bundles on them.

We investigate the asymptotic properties of the trajectories generated by a second-order dynamical system with Hessian driven damping and a Tikhonov regularization term in connection with the minimization of a smooth convex function in Hilbert spaces. We obtain fast convergence results for the function values along the trajectories. The Tikhonov regularization term enables the derivation of strong convergence results of the trajectory to the minimizer of the objective function of minimum norm.

We propose a complete-search algorithm for solving a class of non-convex, possibly infinite-dimensional, optimization problems to global optimality. We assume that the optimization variables are in a bounded subset of a Hilbert space, and we determine worst-case run-time bounds for the algorithm under certain regularity conditions of the cost functional and the constraint set. In this short paper we study the d-Hermite condition about stably free modules for skew $$\textit{PBW}$$ extensions. For this purpose, we estimate the stable rank of these non-commutative rings. In addition, and closely related with these questions, we will prove Kronecker’s theorem about the radical of finitely generated ideals for some particular types of skew $$\textit{PBW}$$ extensions.

The aim of this paper is to generalize results known for the symplectic involutions on K3 surfaces to the order 3 symplectic automorphisms on K3 surfaces. In particular, we will explicitly describe the action induced on the lattice $\Lambda_{K3}$, isometric to the second cohomology group of a K3 surface, by a symplectic automorphism of order 3; we exhibit the maps $\pi_*$ and $\pi^*$ induced in cohomology by the rational quotient map $\pi:X\dashrightarrow Y$, where $X$ is a K3 surface admitting an order 3 symplectic automorphism $\sigma$ and $Y$ is the minimal resolution of the quotient $X/\sigma$; we deduce the relation between the N\'eron--Severi group of $X$ and the one of $Y$. Applying these results we describe explicit geometric examples and generalize the Shioda--Inose structures, relating Abelian surfaces admitting order 3 endomorphisms with certain specific K3 surfaces admitting particular order 3 symplectic automorphisms., Comment: 28 pages. Generalizing wavelets by adding desired redundancy and flexibility, framelets (i.e., wavelet frames) are of interest and importance in many applications such as image processing and numerical algorithms. Several key properties of framelets are high vanishing moments for sparse multiscale representation, fast framelet transforms for numerical efficiency, and redundancy for robustness. However, it is a challenging problem to study and construct multivariate nonseparable framelets, mainly due to their intrinsic connections to factorization and syzygy modules of multivariate polynomial matrices. Moreover, all the known multivariate tight framelets derived from spline refinable scalar functions have only one vanishing moment, and framelets derived from refinable vector functions are barely studied yet in the literature. In this paper, we circumvent the above difficulties through the approach of quasi-tight framelets, which behave almost identically to tight framelets. Employing the popular oblique extension principle (OEP), from an arbitrary compactly supported M-refinable vector function ϕ with multiplicity greater than one, we prove that we can always derive from ϕ a compactly supported multivariate quasi-tight framelet such that: (i) all the framelet generators have the highest possible order of vanishing moments; (ii) its associated fast framelet transform has the highest balancing order and is compact. For a refinable scalar function ϕ (i.e., its multiplicity is one), the above item (ii) often cannot be achieved intrinsically but we show that we can always construct a compactly supported OEP-based multivariate quasi-tight framelet derived from ϕ satisfying item (i). We point out that constructing OEP-based quasi-tight framelets is closely related to the generalized spectral factorization of Hermitian trigonometric polynomial matrices. Our proof is critically built on a newly developed result on the normal form of a matrix-valued filter, which is of interest and importance in itself for greatly facilitating the study of refinable vector functions and multiwavelets/multiframelets. This paper provides a comprehensive investigation on OEP-based multivariate quasi-tight multiframelets and their associated framelet transforms with high balancing orders. This deepens our theoretical understanding of multivariate quasi-tight multiframelets and their associated fast multiframelet transforms.

In this paper we prove that a nodal hypersurface in P^4 with defect has at least (d-1)^2 nodes, and if it has at most 2(d-2)(d-1) nodes and d>6 then it contains either a plane or a quadric surface. Furthermore, we prove that a nodal double cover of P^3 ramified along a surface of degree 2d with defect has at least d(2d-1) nodes. Recently, two of the authors of this paper constructed cyclic cocycles on Harish-Chandra's Schwartz algebra of linear reductive Lie groups that detect all information in the $K$-theory of the corresponding group $C^*$-algebra. The main result in this paper is an index formula for the pairings of these cocycles with equivariant indices of elliptic operators for proper, cocompact actions. In the present paper we describe the family of all closed convex plane curves of class $$C^1$$ C 1 which have circles as their isoptics. In the first part of the paper we give a certain characterization of all ellipses based on the notion of isoptic and we give a geometric characterization of curves whose orthoptics are circles. The second part of the paper contains considerations on curves which have circles as their isoptics and we show the form of support functions of all considered curves.

This is a follow-up paper of arXiv:1805.00115, where rational curves in surfaces that satisfy general positioned point and cross-ratio conditions were enumerated. A suitable correspondence theorem provided in arXiv:1509.07453 allowed us to use tropical geometry, and, in particular, a degeneration technique called floor diagrams. This correspondence theorem also holds in higher dimension. In the current paper, we introduce so-called cross-ratio floor diagrams and show that they allow us to determine the number of rational space curves that satisfy general positioned point and cross-ratio conditions. Moreover, graphical contributions are introduced which provide a novel and structured way of understanding multiplicities of floor decomposed curves in $\mathbb{R}^3$. Additionally, so-called condition flows on a tropical curve are used to reflect how conditions imposed on a tropical curve yield different types of edges. Let us fix a prime $p$. The Erd\H{o}s-Ginzburg-Ziv problem asks for the minimum integer $s$ such that any collection of $s$ points in the lattice $\mathbb{Z}^n$ contains $p$ points whose centroid is also a lattice point in $\mathbb{Z}^n$. For large $n$, this is essentially equivalent to asking for the maximum size of a subset of $\mathbb{F}_p^n$ without $p$ distinct elements summing to zero. In this paper, we give a new upper bound for this problem for any fixed prime $p\geq 5$ and large $n$. In particular, we prove that any subset of $\mathbb{F}_p^n$ without $p$ distinct elements summing to zero has size at most $C_p\cdot \left(2\sqrt{p}\right)^n$, where $C_p$ is a constant only depending on $p$. For $p$ and $n$ going to infinity, our bound is of the form $p^{(1/2)\cdot (1+o(1))n}$, whereas all previously known upper bounds were of the form $p^{(1-o(1))n}$ (with $p^n$ being a trivial bound). Our proof uses the so-called multi-colored sum-free theorem which is a consequence of the Croot-Lev-Pach polynomial method. This method and its consequences were already applied by Naslund as well as by Fox and the author to prove bounds for the problem studied in this paper. This paper discusses an outer-approximation guided optimization method for constrained neural network inverse problems with rectified linear units. The constrained neural network inverse problems refer to an optimization problem to find the best set of input values of a given trained neural network in order to produce a predefined desired output in presence of constraints on input values. This paper analyzes the characteristics of optimal solutions of neural network inverse problems with rectified activation units and proposes an outer-approximation algorithm by exploiting their characteristics. The proposed outer-approximation guided optimization comprises primal and dual phases. The primal phase incorporates neighbor curvatures with neighbor outer-approximations to expedite the process. The dual phase identifies and utilizes the structure of local convex regions to improve the convergence to a local optimal solution. At last, computation experiments demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm compared to a projected gradient method.

A classical theorem of Koksma states that for Lebesgue almost every $x>1$ the sequence $(x^n)_{n=1}^{\infty}$ is uniformly distributed modulo one. In the present paper we extend Koksma's theorem to the pair correlation setting. More precisely, we show that for Lebesgue almost every $x>1$ the pair correlations of the fractional parts of $(x^n)_{n=1}^{\infty}$ are asymptotically Poissonian. We classify the Seifert fibrations of lens spaces where the base orbifold is non-orientable. This is an addendum to our earlier paper ‘Seifert fibrations of lens spaces’. We correct Lemma 4.1 of that paper and fill the gap in the classification that resulted from the erroneous lemma.

In this paper we study graded Bourbaki ideals. It is a well-known fact that for torsionfree modules over Noetherian normal domains, Bourbaki sequences exist. We give criteria in terms of certain attached matrices for a homomorphism of modules to induce a Bourbaki sequence. Special attention is given to graded Bourbaki sequences. In the second part of the paper, we apply these results to the Koszul cycles of the residue class field and determine particular Bourbaki ideals explicitly. We also obtain in a special case the relationship between the structure of the Rees algebra of a Koszul cycle and the Rees algebra of its Bourbaki ideal., Comment: 29 pages

The classical result of L. Székelyhidi states that (under some assumptions) every solution of a general linear equation must be a polynomial function. It is known that Székelyhidi’s result may be generalized to equations where some occurrences of the unknown functions are multiplied by a linear combination of the variables. In this paper we study the equations where two such combinations appear. The simplest nontrivial example of such a case is given by the equation$$\begin{aligned} F(x + y) - F(x) - F(y) = yf(x) + xf(y) \end{aligned}$$F(x+y)-F(x)-F(y)=yf(x)+xf(y)considered by Fechner and Gselmann (Publ Math Debrecen 80(1–2):143–154, 2012). In the present paper we prove several results concerning the systematic approach to the generalizations of this equation.

In this paper we study the isotypic decomposition of the regular module of a finite-dimensional Hopf algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. For a semisimple Hopf algebra, the idempotents realizing the isotypic decomposition can be explicitly expressed in terms of characters and the Haar integral. In this paper we investigate Hopf algebras with the Chevalley property, which are not necessarily semisimple. We find explicit expressions for idempotents in terms of Hopf-algebraic data, where the Haar integral is replaced by the regular character of the dual Hopf algebra. For a large class of Hopf algebras, these are shown to form a complete set of orthogonal idempotents. We give an example which illustrates that the Chevalley property is crucial., Comment: 29 pages

The pavilion presented in this paper is an articulation of space based on the Weaire and Phelan tessellation. In this pavilion a second generative pattern is partially engraved and cut out of the polygonal surfaces that bind the polyhedron. This pattern is made up of cubic curves that aim to spatially engage with the tessellation. The design and prototyping process was implemented and controlled using parametric and procedural models. The use of these models made it possible to define the shape, orientation, and size of each element of the pavilion: from the polyhedron and the pattern’s curves, to smaller components like the shape of the panels’ joints, holes, and the countersinks that hold the screws. This research illustrates the geometric, formal, and procedural design that was used to shape the pavilion in its current spatial configuration, to draw the pattern cut and engraved into the polyhedron’s surface, and finally, to determine the shape and scale of the joints that hold the faces of the polyhedron together and characterize the internal space. Regarding the topic ofPatterns and Spatial Organization, the paper investigates shape design methodologies, which are based on historical practices but updated using new technologies.

This paper concerns the density of the Hartman--Watson law. Yor (1980) obtained an integral formula that gives a closed-form expression of the Hartman--Watson density. In this paper, based on Yor's formula, we provide alternative integral representations for the density. In this paper, we consider a version of energy minimisation technique applied to images of a 2D fluid flow. The two Navier–Stokes equations describe the static flow of a 2D fluid in terms of velocity field, (u, v), pressure field, p and forcing field, f. Apart from these two Navier–Stokes equations, we have the incompressibility condition to evaluate the three parameters. While implementing this system, random noise (usually non-Gaussian) creeps into the random force field $$\underline{f}(x,y)$$ f ̲ ( x , y ) . We denote this random field by $$\delta \underline{f}(x,y)$$ δ f ̲ ( x , y ) having zero mean and non-trivial second and third moments. We assume that these two moments are known except for some unknown parameters $$\underline{\theta }$$ θ ̲ (like mean, variance, co-variance, skewness, etc.) which we wish to estimate. In the proposed technique, we first calculate the approximate shift in the average fluid energy defined as a quadratic function of the velocity field. The energy method then requires that $$\underline{\theta }$$ θ ̲ should be such that this average increases in the energy due to the random forcing component be minimised. We should, however, note that the standard statistical approach to force field estimation is to calculate the velocity field as a function of the force field and then adopt the statistical moment matching technique. Such an approach assumes spatial ergodicity of the velocity field. This approach to force field estimation is more accurate from the statistical moment matching view point but works only if velocity measurements are made. The former technique of energy minimisation does not require any velocity measurements. Both of these techniques are discussed in this paper and MATLAB simulations presented.

This work has been motivated by recent papers that quantify the density of values of generic quadratic forms and other polynomials at integer points, in particular ones that use Rogers' second moment estimates. In this paper we establish such results in a very general framework. Given any subhomogeneous function (a notion to be defined) $f: \mathbb{R}^n \to \mathbb{R}$, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition on the approximating function $\psi$ for guaranteeing that a generic element $f\circ g$ in the $G$-orbit of $f$ is $\psi$-approximable; that is, $|f\circ g(\mathbf{v})| \le \psi(\|\mathbf{v}\|)$ for infinitely many $\mathbf{v} \in \mathbb{Z}^n$. We also deduce a sufficient condition in the case of uniform approximation. This paper is the second part of paper (Grishkov and Guerreiro in Sao Paulo J Math Sci v4(1):93–107, 2010) about simple 7-dimensional Lie algebras over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic two. In this paper we prove that all simple 7-dimensional Lie algebras over k of absolute toral rank three are isomorphic to the Cartan algebra $$W_1$$ or the Hamilton algebra $$H_2.$$ We hope to prove that those algebras are the unique simple 7-dimensional Lie algebras over the field k. Observe that in the case of absolute toral rank 2 this fact was proved in [2].

A goal of the paper is to prove new inequalities connecting some functionals of probability distribution functions. These inequalities are based on the strict convexity of functions used in the definition of the functionals. The starting point is the paper “Cramer–von Mises distance: probabilistic interpretation, confidence intervals and neighborhood of model validation” by Ludwig Baringhaus and Norbert Henze. The present paper provides a generalization of inequality obtained in probabilistic interpretation of the Cramer–von Mises distance. If the equality holds there, then a chance to give characterization of some probability distribution functions appears. Considering this fact and a special character of the functional, it is possible to create a class of free-of-distribution two sample tests.

In the first part of this paper, we consider the problem of fill-in of nonnegative scalar curvature (NNSC) metrics for a triple of Bartnik data $$(\varSigma ,\gamma ,H)$$ . We prove that given a metric $$\gamma $$ on $${{\mathbf {S}}}^{n-1}$$ ( $$3\le n\le 7$$ ), $$({{\mathbf {S}}}^{n-1},\gamma ,H)$$ admits no fill-in of NNSC metrics provided the prescribed mean curvature H is large enough (Theorem 4). Moreover, we prove that if $$\gamma $$ is a positive scalar curvature (PSC) metric isotopic to the standard metric on $${{\mathbf {S}}}^{n-1}$$ , then the much weaker condition that the total mean curvature $$\int _{{{\mathbf {S}}}^{n-1}}H\,{{\mathrm {d}}}\mu _\gamma $$ is large enough rules out NNSC fill-ins, giving an partially affirmative answer to a conjecture by Gromov (Four lectures on scalar curvature, 2019, see P. 23). In the second part of this paper, we investigate the $$\theta $$ -invariant of Bartnik data and obtain some sufficient conditions for the existence of PSC fill-ins.

In their remarkable paper, Minakshisundaram and Pleijel established by using the parametrix for the heat equation the asymptotic expansion of the heat kernel on compact Riemannian manifolds. The result has since been extensively used in the spectral analysis of the Laplace-Beltrami operator, and in particular, in proving Weyl’s law for the asymptotic distribution of eigenvalues and various direct and inverse problems in spectral geometry. However, the question of describing the explicit values of the corresponding heat trace coefficients associated with an arbitrary compact Riemannian manifold has remained an interesting task. In this paper, we review results on Minakshisundaram-Pleijel coefficients associated with the Laplacian on spheres $${\mathbb {S}}^{N}$$ ( $$N\ge 1$$ ) and other associated spectral invariants, namely, the Minakshisundaram-Pleijel zeta functions & their residues, and the zeta-regularised determinants of the Laplacian on spheres. The results reviewed deal mainly with closed-form formulae for the afore-mentioned spectral invariants and the explicit values of the first few of these spectral invariants are given.

International audience; Sampled-data control systems have steadily been gaining interest for their applications in automatic engineering where they are implemented as digital controllers and recently results have been obtained in optimal control theory for nonlinear sampled-data control systems and certain generalizations. In this paper we derive a Pontryagin maximum principle for general nonlinear finite-dimensional optimal sampled-data control problems with running inequality state constraints. In particular, we obtain a nonpositive averaged Hamiltonian gradient condition with the adjoint vector being a function of bounded variations. Our proof is based on the Ekeland variational principle. In general, optimal control problems with running inequality state constraints are difficult to solve using numerical methods due to the discontinuities (the jumps and the singular part) of the adjoint vector. However in our case we find that under certain general hypotheses the adjoint vector only experiences jumps at most at the sampling times and moreover the trajectory only contacts the running inequality state constraints at most at the sampling times. We call this behavior a bouncing trajectory phenomenon and it constitutes the second major focus of this paper. Finally taking advantage of the bouncing trajectory phenomenon we numerically solve three examples with different kinds of constraints and in several dimensions.

We show that the phase tropical pair-of-pants is (ambient) isotopic to the complex pair-of-pants. This paper can serve as an addendum to the author's joint paper with Ruddat arXiv:2001.08267 where an isotopy between complex and ober-tropical pairs-of-pants was shown. Special units are a sort of predecessor of Euler systems, and they are mainly used to obtain annihilators for class groups. So one is interested in finding as many special units as possible (actually we use a technical generalization called “semispecial”). In this paper we show that in any abelian field having a real genus field in the narrow sense all Washington units are semispecial, and that a slightly weaker statement holds true for all abelian fields. The group of Washington units is very often larger than Sinnott’s group of cyclotomic units. In a companion paper we will show that in concrete families of abelian fields the group of Washington units is much larger than that of Sinnott units, by giving lower bounds on the index. Combining this with the present paper gives strong annihilation results.

In this paper, we provide the boundedness property of the Riesz transforms associated to the Schrodinger operator $${\cal L} = \Delta + {\bf{V}}$$ in a new weighted Morrey space which is the generalized version of many previous Morrey type spaces. The additional potential V considered in this paper is a non-negative function satisfying the suitable reverse Holder’s inequality. Our results are new and general in many cases of problems. As an application of the boundedness property of these singular integral operators, we obtain some regularity results of solutions to Schrodinger equations in the new Morrey space.

In the present paper, we obtain a Halanay inequality on time scales with unbounded coefficient for a dynamic problem, which extends a result of Wen et al. (J. Math. Anal. Appl., 347 (2008), 169–178.) to the inequality of integral type on time scales. Moreover, we list two dynamic problems to which the Halanay inequality obtained above can be applied and prove the zero solution of two delay dynamic problems are asymptotically stable. Moreover, it is worth mentioning that the Halanay inequality obtained in the present paper is more precise than the results in [3, 14, 17].

In the present paper we study the so-called sampling Kantorovich operators in the very general setting of modular spaces. Here, modular convergence theorems are proved under suitable assumptions, together with a modular inequality for the above operators. Further, we study applications of such approximation results in several concrete cases, such as Musielak–Orlicz and Orlicz spaces. As a consequence of these results we obtain convergence theorems in the classical and weighted versions of the $$L^p$$ L p and Zygmund (or interpolation) spaces. At the end of the paper examples of kernels for the above operators are presented.

The aim of the present paper is to establish four theorems connecting Stieltjes transform and Hankel transform. By applications of the theorems established in this paper four new integral formulae involving special functions are obtained. Due to the general nature of the theorems established in this paper, several other integrals involving special functions may be evaluated.

In this paper, we study noncommutative surface singularities arising from orders. The singularities we study are mild in the sense that they have finite representation type or, equivalently, are log terminal in the sense of the Mori minimal model program for orders (Chan and Ingalls in Invent Math 161(2):427–452, 2005). These were classified independently by Artin (in terms of ramification data) and Reiten–Van den Bergh (in terms of their AR-quivers). The first main goal of this paper is to connect these two classifications, by going through the finite subgroups $$G \subset {{{\,\mathrm{GL}\,}}_2}$$ , explicitly computing $$H^2(G,k^*)$$ , and then matching these up with Artin’s list of ramification data and Reiten–Van den Bergh’s AR-quivers. This provides a semi-independent proof of their classifications and extends the study of canonical orders in Chan et al. (Proc Lond Math Soc (3) 98(1):83–115, 2009) to the case of log terminal orders. A secondary goal of this paper is to study noncommutative analogues of plane curves which arise as follows. Let $$B = k_{\zeta } \llbracket x,y \rrbracket $$ be the skew power series ring where $$\zeta $$ is a root of unity, or more generally a terminal order over a complete local ring. We consider rings of the form $$A = B/(f)$$ where $$f \in Z(B)$$ which we interpret to be the ring of functions on a noncommutative plane curve. We classify those noncommutative plane curves which are of finite representation type and compute their AR-quivers.

In this paper, we consider the steady incompressible Navier–Stokes equations in a smooth bounded domain $$\Omega \subset \mathbb R^n$$ Ω ⊂ R n with the dimension $$n\ge 3$$ n ≥ 3 . We first establish asymptotic expansion formulae of Sobolev regular finite energy solutions in $$\Omega$$ Ω . In the second part of this paper, explicit representation formulae of Sobolev regular solutions are showed in the regular polyhedron $$\Omega :=[0,T]^n$$ Ω : = [ 0 , T ] n .

Major advances were recently obtained in the exact solution of vehicle routing problems (VRPs). Sophisticated branch-cut-and-price (BCP) algorithms for some of the most classical VRP variants now solve many instances with up to a few hundreds of customers. However, adapting and reimplementing those successful algorithms for other variants can be a very demanding task. This work proposes a BCP solver for a generic model that encompasses a wide class of VRPs. It incorporates the key elements found in the best existing VRP algorithms: ng-path relaxation, rank-1 cuts with limited memory, path enumeration, and rounded capacity cuts; all generalized through the new concepts of “packing set” and “elementarity set”. The concepts are also used to derive a branching rule based on accumulated resource consumption and to generalize the Ryan and Foster branching rule. Extensive experiments on several variants show that the generic solver has an excellent overall performance, in many problems being better than the best specific algorithms. Even some non-VRPs, like bin packing, vector packing and generalized assignment, can be modeled and effectively solved.

In this paper, we revisit the performance of theα-synchronizer in distributed systems with probabilistic message loss as introduced in Függer et al. [Perf. Eval. 93(2015)]. In sharp contrast to the infinite-state Markov chain resp. the exponential-size finite-state upper bound presented in the original paper, we introduce a polynomial-size finite-state Markov chain for a new synchronizer variant$\alpha ^{\prime }$α′, which provides a new upper bound on the performance of theα-synchronizer. Both analytic and simulation results show that our new upper bound is strictly better than the existing one. Moreover, we show that a modified version of the$\alpha ^{\prime }$α′-synchronizer provides a lower bound on the performance of theα-synchronizer. By means of elaborate simulation results, we show that our new lower bound is also strictly better than the lower bound presented in the original paper.

An open problem proposed by Rhoades is the following. Is there a contractive condition which guarantees the existence of a fixed point, but does not require the mapping to be continuous at the point? In this paper, we generalize a celebrated result of Eshaghi et al., [On orthogonal sets and Banach fixed point theorem, Fixed Point Theory, 18 (2017), 569–578], which allows us to find a new solution to this open problem. Furthermore we show that a claim of the aforementioned paper, that Banach’s fixed point theorem cannot be applied in their application, is incorrect. Finally, as an application, we prove that a multivalued function satisfying a general linear functional inclusion admits a unique selection fulfilling the corresponding functional equation.

Recently, the authors have established $$L^p$$ -boundedness of vector-valued q-variational inequalities for averaging operators which take values in the Banach space satisfying the martingale cotype q property in Hong and Ma (Math Z 286(1–2):89–120, 2017). In this paper, we prove that the martingale cotype q property is also necessary for the vector-valued q-variational inequalities, which was a question left open in the previous paper. Moreover, we also prove that the UMD property and the martingale cotype q property can be characterized in terms of vector valued q-variational inequalities for the Hilbert transform.

This paper is a follow up of [6]. We investigate the boundedness of the bilinear fractional integral operator introduced by Grafakos in [3]. Given a graph $G$ and a nondecreasing sequence $S=(s_1,\ldots,s_k)$ of positive integers, the mapping $c:V(G)\longrightarrow \{1,\ldots,k\}$ is called an $S$-packing coloring of $G$ if for any two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ in $c^{-1}(i)$, the distance between $x$ and $y$ is greater than $s_i$. The smallest integer $k$ such that there exists a $(1,2,\ldots,k)$-packing coloring of a graph $G$ is called the packing chromatic number of $G$, denoted $\chi_{\rho}(G)$. The question of boundedness of the packing chromatic number in the class of subcubic (planar) graphs was investigated in several earlier papers; recently it was established that the invariant is unbounded in the class of all subcubic graphs. In this paper, we prove that the packing chromatic number of any 2-connected bipartite subcubic outerplanar graph is bounded by $7$. Furthermore, we prove that every subcubic triangle-free outerplanar graph has a $(1,2,2,2)$-packing coloring, and that there exists a subcubic outerplanar graph with a triangle that does not admit a $(1,2,2,2)$-packing coloring. In addition, there exists a subcubic triangle-free outerplanar graph that does not admit a $(1,2,2,3)$-packing coloring. A similar dichotomy is shown for bipartite outerplanar graphs: every such graph admits an $S$-packing coloring for $S=(1,3,\ldots,3)$, where $3$ appears $\Delta$ times ($\Delta$ being the maximum degree of vertices), and this property does not hold if one of the integers $3$ is replaced by $4$ in the sequence $S$., Comment: 24 pages

This paper contains two parts toward studying abelian varieties from the classification point of view. In a series of papers, the current authors and T.-C. Yang obtain explicit formulas for the numbers of superspecial abelian surfaces over finite fields. In this paper, we give an explicit formula for the size of the isogeny class of simple abelian surfaces with real Weil number $\sqrt{q}$. This establishes a key step that one may extend our previous explicit calculations of superspecial abelian surfaces to those of supersingular abelian surfaces.The second part is to introduce the notion of genera and ideal complexes of abelian varieties with additional structures in a general setting. In the study of the constant in Ahlfors' second fundamental theorem involving a set E_{q} of q points, branch values of covering surfaces outside E_{q} bring a lot of troubles.
