The Almost Perfect Scale-Revised (APS-R) and its short form (SAPS) are among the most-established multidimensional perfectionism measures. Yet, investigations into the APS-R/SAPS nomological networks have mainly been limited to the level of broader personality traits. This reliance on trait-level associations hampers the conceptual understanding of perfectionism traits by masking more complex relations with specific cognitive, emotional, and behavioral tendencies (personality facets). In this study, we validated German versions of the APS-R and SAPS and assessed their relations with the Big Five personality facets in two samples (NSample 1 = 305 university students; NSample 2 = 467 community adults). Both scales displayed satisfactory psychometric properties, convergent and criterion-related validity. Analyses on the level of the Big Five personality facets revealed complex and nuanced patterns of relations. Background and objectives: Policies to support people living with dementia increasingly focus on strengths-based approaches, highlighting the importance of building resilience. This research responds to the lack of a suitable resilience measure for people with dementia. It develops a pool of items to inform a new measure of resilience for this population. Methods: A conceptual model and associated data informed the item generation of the draft resilience measure. Regular meetings with professionals (n = 7) discussed response-scale formatting, content and face validity, leading to refinement and item reduction. Cognitive interviews with people living with dementia (n = 11) then examined the face and content validity of items and the suitability of response-scale formatting. These two phases informed subsequent revision and further item reduction of the resilience measure. Results: The first item generation exercise led to 140 items. These were independently assessed by the professionals and this refinement reduced the measure to 63 items across 7 domains of the conceptual model (psychological strengths; practical approaches for adapting to life with dementia; continuing with hobbies, interests and activities; strong relationships with family and friends; peer support and education; participating in community activities; the role of professional support services). Cognitive interviews explored the 63 items with people living with dementia. Detailed feedback led to items removed due to difficulty with (a) understanding (N = 7); (b) answering (n = 11); (c) low preference for that item (n = 6); and (d) presence of a preferred item within a cluster of similar questions (n = 4). Items were amended to enhance clarity/conciseness (n = 19) leading to a final 37-item pool. Conclusion: Established methods for measurement development included the expertise of people with dementia and led to the generation of a set of items for a new resilience measure that were understandable and acceptable to this target population. One of the most important issues in matrix-variate normal distribution is the mean matrix parameter estimation problem. In this paper, we introduce a new soft-threshold wavelet shrinkage estimator based on Stein's unbiased risk estimate (SURE) for the matrix-variate normal distribution. We focus on particular thresholding rules to obtain a new SURE threshold and we produce new estimators under balanced loss function. In addition, we obtain the restricted soft-threshold wavelet shrinkage estimator based on non-negative sub matrix of the mean matrix. Also, we obtain the soft-threshold wavelet shrinkage estimator in high dimensional cases. Denoising real data set is one of the challenges in this field. In this regard, we present a simulation study to test the validity of proposed estimator and provide real examples in low and high-dimensional case. The Rotterdam Emotional Intelligence Scale (REIS) has a good balance between the emotions of self and others, which solves the problem of previous scales being unable to clearly distinguish the emotional intelligence of self from that of others. In the current study, a short version of the REIS scale was developed by the item response theory (IRT) method according to item fit, item or test information function (IIF) and differential item function (DIF) indicators. The results show that the short scale with 14 items had acceptable structural validity (RMSEA = 0.05, CFI = 0.96, TLI = 0.94, SRMR = 0.04) and high reliability (ω = 0.90). The high correlations (more than 0.7) between the scores of the short scale and EIS and WLEIS also verified the concurrent validity of the short scale. In conclusion, compared with the original version of REIS, the developed short version saves 50% of the items and has competitive validity and reliability. In three studies, we document the validity of the Polish version of the Emotional Style Questionnaire (ESQ)—a 24-item self-report measure that captures how people vary across six dimensions that make up a healthy emotional life. Study 1 provides support for the proposed factorial structure of the Polish version of the scale and gender measurement invariance, demonstrates the similarity of the Polish and English versions of the scale, and reveals the excellent test-retest reliability of the scale across an interval of two months. Study 2 confirms the adequacy of the factorial structure in another sample, shows that the construct validity for each of the six subscales is similar to that of the original scale, and documents the age measurement invariance of the scale. Finally, in Study 3, we investigate measurement invariance across Polish and American samples and demonstrate that Poles are characterized by lower scores on healthy emotionality and its dimensions compared to Americans. We conclude that the Polish version of the ESQ is a psychometrically valid and easily implementable measurement tool that can be applied in research settings to measure healthy emotionality and its components. The current study examined the psychometric properties (factor structure, reliability and validity) of the Psychopathy Checklist: Youth Version (PCL:YV; Forth et al., 2003) in Spanish samples of male justice-involved youths between 15 and 22-years old. The PCL:YV was administered to two groups of youths who were incarcerated (n = 62; n = 95) and a sample of youth on probation (n = 122). Confirmatory factor analyses showed acceptable-to-good fit for three- and four-factor models. The four-factor hierarchical model with a second-order higher factor representing the whole psychopathy construct was considered for further analyses. PCL:YV scores showed high internal consistency and inter-rater reliability. Low-to-moderate convergence with other measures of psychopathic traits evinced an adequate convergent validity. Convergent and discriminant validity of the PCL:YV total scores were also confirmed considering several measures of psychopathology and personality traits. Importantly, the differential external correlates of the PCL:YV factors provide support for a multidimensional conceptualization of the psychopathy construct. Altogether, these results reveal adequate psychometric properties of the PCL:YV in Spanish population of justice-involved youths and justifies its use to assess psychopathic traits in this kind of populations. There is a burgeoning evidence base highlighting the positive influence of benevolent childhood experiences (BCEs), even in the context of adversity. However, few measures are available to assess BCEs. The current study sought to develop and validate a measure which assesses positive recollections of experiences and emotions at home and with family during childhood called the 'Memories of Home and Family Scale'(MHFS). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was employed to test the latent structure of the preliminary MHFS item scores in a sample of university students from the United Kingdom (N = 624). Following selection of the best-fitting model and final items for inclusion in the scale, total and subscale scores were correlated with a range of mental health outcomes. CFA results indicated that the latent structure of the MHFS items was best represented by a correlated six-factor first-order model. This paper presents two studies conducted to develop and evaluate a new pragmatic measure of therapist adherence to Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): the DBT Adherence Checklist for Individual Therapy (DBT AC-I). Study 1 used item response analysis to select items from the gold standard DBT Adherence Coding Scale (DBT ACS) using archival data from 1271 DBT sessions. Items were then iteratively refined based on feedback from 33 target end-users to ensure relevance, usability, and understandability. Study 2 examined the psychometric properties of the DBT AC-I as a therapist self-report and observer-rated measure in 100 sessions from 50 therapist-client dyads, while also evaluating predictors of therapist accuracy in self-rated adherence. When used as a therapist self-report measure, concordance between therapist and observer ratings was at least moderate (AC1 ≥ 0.41) for all DBT AC-I items but overall concordance (ICC = 0.09) as well as convergent (r = 0.05) and criterion validity (AUC = 0.54) with the DBT ACS were poor. Higher therapist accuracy was predicted by greater DBT knowledge and adherence as well as more severe client suicidal ideation. When used by trained observers, the DBT AC-I had excellent interrater reliability (ICC = 0.93), convergent validity (r = 0.90), and criterion validity (AUC = 0.94). While therapists' self-rated adherence on the DBT AC-I should not be assumed to reflect their actual adherence, some therapists may self-rate accurately. Introduction and hypothesis: Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI-20) and the Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire (PFIQ-7) are reliable instruments for evaluating the quality of life in women with pelvic organ prolapse (POP). They have been translated and validated in many languages. The study was aimed at validating the Estonian translations of the PFDI-20 and PFIQ-7 tools. Methods: The questionnaires were translated into Estonian using a multistep translation method. A total of 132 women were enrolled: patients with diagnosed POP (n=57) were allocated to test–retest reliability analyses, and those with no POP signs (n=88) completed the questionnaire only once. The total scores of questionnaires and their subscales of both patient and reference groups were compared. Item response rate, floor and ceiling effects, corrected item–total correlations, internal consistency, and convergent and discriminant validity were analyzed. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Human Research of the University Clinic of Tartu, Estonia, and informed consent was obtained from each participant. Results: The translated questionnaires demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach's α values 0.77–0.93). The item response rate was 99%. Intra-class correlations (ICC) were strong for PFDI-20 and PFIQ-7 and their subscales ranged from 0.86 to 0.96. Construct validity of the tools demonstrated by manyfold higher scores among patients with POP compared with women without POP (p<0.0001). Conclusions: The Estonian versions of the PFDI-20 and PFIQ-7 tools are reliable and valid instruments for assessing the quality of life in women with POP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The number of Italian citizens unaware of their risk of cardiovascular disease it is still very high. Aim: This study aimed to translate and preliminarily validate a brief Italian version of the Perception of Risk of Heart Disease Scale (PRHDS). Methods: PRHDS was culturally adapted to the Italian context. Then, the scale was administered to 772 healthy adults. By randomly dividing the sample into two subsamples, we tested the scale dimensionality through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) followed by Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Finally, we evaluated internal consistency. Results: Psychometric properties of the scale were appropriate. EFA and CFA evidenced a unidimensional structure of a brief version of the scale, composed of six items. Internal consistency was adequate. Conclusions: Italian version of the brief PRHDS is a promising self-report questionnaire to measure cardiovascular risk perception among Italian adults. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The thoughtful commentaries in this volume of Drs. Bush, Jewsbury, and Faust add to the impact of the two reviews in this volume of statistical and methodological issues in the forensic neuropsychological determination of malingering based on performance and symptom validity tests (PVTs and SVTs). In his commentary, Dr. Bush raises, among others, the important question of whether such malingering determinations can still be considered as meeting the legal Daubert standard which is the basis for neuropsychological expert testimony. Dr. Jewsbury focuses mostly on statistical issues and agrees with two key points of the statistical review: Positive likelihood chaining is not a mathematically tenable method to combine findings of multiple PVTs and SVTs, and the Simple Bayes method is not applicable to malingering determinations. Dr. Faust adds important narrative texture to the implications for forensic neuropsychological practice and points to a need for research into factors other than malingering that may explain PVT and SVT failures. These commentaries put into even sharper focus the serious questions raised in the reviews about the scientific basis of present practices in the forensic neuropsychological determination of malingering. Dr. Leonhard presents a comprehensive and insightful critique of the existing malingering research literature and its implications for neuropsychological practice. Their statistical critique primarily focuses on the crucial issue of diagnostic inference when multiple tests are involved. While Leonhard effectively addresses certain misunderstandings, there are some overlooked misconceptions within the literature and a few new confusions were introduced. In order to provide a balanced commentary, this evaluation considers both Leonhard's critiques and the malingering research literature. Furthermore, a concise introduction to Bayesian diagnostic inference, utilizing the results of multiple tests, is provided. Misunderstandings regarding Bayesian inference are clarified, and a valid approach to Bayesian inference is elucidated. The assumptions underlying the simple Bayes model are thoroughly discussed, and it is demonstrated that the chained likelihood ratios method is an inappropriate application of this model due to one reason identified by Leonhard and another reason that has not been previously recognized. Leonhard's conclusions regarding the primary dependence of incremental validity on unconditional correlations and the alleged mathematical incorrectness of the simple Bayes model are refuted. Neuropsychologists have long understood that valid examinee performance is needed in order to understand the constructs of interest that are at the heart of clinical and forensic evaluations. The assessment of performance validity has evolved over time, from very rudimentary and subjective clinical impressions of examinee task engagement to psychometrically based, multi-method, algorithm-driven, and consensus-informed approaches. Christoph Leonhard has further advanced that evolution in a meaningful way, forcing us to reconsider much of what we thought we knew about the psychometric assessment of performance validity. Although a structured, systematic, and objective approach to validity assessment is necessary, Leonhard has brought to our attention some significant concerns that need to be addressed. This commentary describes professional, ethical, and legal implications of Leonhard's articles. Through an ongoing process of examining, revising, and improving our methods and procedures, we will be better positioned to provide services of value to those we serve. Forensic neuropsychological examinations to detect malingering in patients with neurocognitive, physical, and psychological dysfunction have tremendous social, legal, and economic importance. Thousands of studies have been published to develop and validate methods to forensically detect malingering based largely on approximately 50 validity tests, including embedded and stand-alone performance and symptom validity tests. This is Part II of a two-part review of statistical and methodological issues in the forensic prediction of malingering based on validity tests. The Part I companion paper explored key statistical issues. Part II examines related methodological issues through conceptual analysis, statistical simulations, and reanalysis of findings from prior validity test validation studies. Methodological issues examined include the distinction between analog simulation and forensic studies, the effect of excluding too-close-to-call (TCTC) cases from analyses, the distinction between criterion-related and construct validation studies, and the application of the Revised Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies tool (QUADAS-2) in all Test of Memory Malingering (TOMM) validation studies published within approximately the first 20 years following its initial publication to assess risk of bias. Findings include that analog studies are commonly confused for forensic validation studies, and that construct validation studies are routinely presented as if they were criterion-reference validation studies. After accounting for the exclusion of TCTC cases, actual classification accuracy was found to be well below claimed levels. QUADAS-2 results revealed that extant TOMM validation studies all had a high risk of bias, with not a single TOMM validation study with low risk of bias. Recommendations include adoption of well-established guidelines from the biomedical diagnostics literature for good quality criterion-referenced validation studies and examination of implications for malingering determination practices. Forensic neuropsychological examinations with determination of malingering have tremendous social, legal, and economic consequences. Thousands of studies have been published aimed at developing and validating methods to diagnose malingering in forensic settings, based largely on approximately 50 validity tests, including embedded and stand-alone performance validity tests. This is the first part of a two-part review. Part I explores three statistical issues related to the validation of validity tests as predictors of malingering, including (a) the need to report a complete set of classification accuracy statistics, (b) how to detect and handle collinearity among validity tests, and (c) how to assess the classification accuracy of algorithms for aggregating information from multiple validity tests. In the Part II companion paper, three closely related research methodological issues will be examined. Statistical issues are explored through conceptual analysis, statistical simulations, and through reanalysis of findings from prior validation studies. Findings suggest extant neuropsychological validity tests are collinear and contribute redundant information to the prediction of malingering among forensic examinees. Findings further suggest that existing diagnostic algorithms may miss diagnostic accuracy targets under most realistic conditions. The review makes several recommendations to address these concerns, including (a) reporting of full confusion table statistics with 95% confidence intervals in diagnostic trials, (b) the use of logistic regression, and (c) adoption of the consensus model on the "transparent reporting of multivariate prediction models for individual prognosis or diagnosis" (TRIPOD) in the malingering literature. Comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) is instrumental in ensuring that young people have the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions and practice safer sex. Worryingly, CSE is often not available to adolescents and young with disabilities. The Breaking the Silence (BtS) approach to CSE was developed to address this gap and help equip educators to teach CSE to adolescents and young people with disabilities. The TSE-Q was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the BtS approach and monitor changes in educators' knowledge, skills, attitudes, self-confidence, and preparedness to teach CSE to young people with disabilities. The TSE-Q is aligned with an adapted version of the theory of planned behavior. This is a second validation study of the TSE-Q embedded within a feasibility study for the BtS approach. Fifty educators and support staff from two South African special schools for people with disability participated in a BtS training workshop and completed the TSE-Q before and after the workshop. Additionally, participants were asked to complete an adapted version of Rowe, Oxman, and O'Brien's validity questionnaire probing content validity, face validity, and ease of use. Baseline data from the TSE-Q was evaluated for reliability, while the validity questionnaire and verbal feedback were used to assess validity. Most scales show good reliability, but knowledge-based scales have lower reliability due to their multidimensionality. The TSE-Q shows good face validity, content validity, and ease of use, but should be done on different days to any intervention/training. The present study sought to evaluate the effectiveness of a Sex Education Intervention on sexual knowledge in a group of female adolescents with intellectual disabilities. This research was conducted in a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The sample included 30 female adolescents with intellectual disabilities that were selected through convenience sampling and randomly divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group (15 participants in each group). The experimental group received 18 sessions of a Sex Education Intervention while the control group did not receive this intervention. Assessment of Sexual Knowledge in Adolescents (ASKA) was used to measure sexual knowledge of the adolescents. The results showed that Sex Education Intervention improved general sexual knowledge and subscales like parts of the body, public and private parts and places, puberty, relationships, social sexual boundaries, safe sex practices, and sex and the law in the experimental group. However, no effect of the intervention was observed in subscales of masturbation and sexuality. The present research emphasizes the importance of Sex Education Intervention in increasing sexual knowledge in female adolescents with intellectual disabilities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Presurgical psychological assessment of bariatric surgery candidates aims to identify psychosocial risk factors and provide treatment recommendations to facilitate optimal outcomes. Such assessment typically includes psychometric testing and a clinical interview. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) has been commonly used as a broadband measure to assess a number of psychosocial domains in bariatric clinics. The newest version of the MMPI, the MMPI-3, was recently released. This study sought to (1) establish whether the MMPI-3 is comparable to the MMPI-2-RF in a sample of patients seeking bariatric surgery, (2) report reliability data for all MMPI-3 scale scores in this sample, and (3) explore associations between commonly used self-report symptom measures and substantive scales of the MMPI-3 to ascertain convergent and discriminant validity patterns. Six hundred and thirty-five presurgical patients completed the MMPI-3 in addition to the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-Consumption (AUDIT-C), and Eating Disorder Examination-Questionnaire (EDE-Q). The majority (79.1%) of the sample was female, 65.5% was white, and 26.6% was Black. Scores on most of the MMPI-3 Emotional/Internalizing Dysfunction scales were meaningfully associated with the PHQ-9, GAD-7, and most EDE-Q subscales (except for Restraint). Meaningful discriminant patterns were observed as well. We conclude that the substantive scales of the MMPI-3 are reliable, comparable to their MMPI-2-RF counterparts, and evidence good convergent validity with extra-test measures assessing depression, anxiety, alcohol use, and eating disorder psychopathology in a preoperative bariatric sample. Human infant crying evolved as a signal to elicit parental care and actively influences caregiving behaviors as well as infant–caregiver interactions. Automated cry detection algorithms have become more popular in recent decades, and while some models exist, they have not been evaluated thoroughly on daylong naturalistic audio recordings. Here, we validate a novel deep learning cry detection model by testing it in assessment scenarios important to developmental researchers. We also evaluate the deep learning model's performance relative to LENA's cry classifier, one of the most commonly used commercial software systems for quantifying child crying. Broadly, we found that both deep learning and LENA model outputs showed convergent validity with human annotations of infant crying. However, the deep learning model had substantially higher accuracy metrics (recall, F1, kappa) and stronger correlations with human annotations at all timescales tested (24 h, 1 h, and 5 min) relative to LENA. On average, LENA underestimated infant crying by 50 min every 24 h relative to human annotations and the deep learning model. Additionally, daily infant crying times detected by both automated models were lower than parent-report estimates in the literature. We provide recommendations and solutions for leveraging automated algorithms to detect infant crying in the home and make our training data and model code open source and publicly available. Irritability is a transdiagnostic feature and a common mental health problem in adolescence. Prior studies indicate that irritability is composed of two correlated but separable dimensions, tonic irritability (i.e., irritable mood) and phasic irritability (i.e., temper outbursts), which are respectively associated with internalizing and externalizing outcomes. However, little is known about the stability and interrelations of tonic and phasic irritability. The current study examined the longitudinal interplay between tonic and phasic irritability during adolescence. A community sample of 544 girls (age 13.5–15.5 years) was assessed at 5 waves (over 3 years, in 9-month intervals). A random-intercept cross-lagged panel model was used to examine the within-person stability and longitudinal interrelations of tonic and phasic irritability. Pseudo-indicator models were used to help analyze all available data. Results suggest that tonic and phasic irritability had distinct patterns of development and co-development. Between individuals, tonic and phasic irritability showed moderate rank-order stability and high concurrent correlations. Within individuals, phasic irritability was found to positively predict both tonic and phasic irritability at the subsequent wave, whereas tonic irritability did not predict later phasic irritability and showed weaker within-person stability. These results suggest that increased or decreased phasic irritability in adolescent girls may signify continued increase or decrease in both tonic and phasic irritability. With the development and popularization of the Internet and smartphones, the measurement of being phubbed and phubbing and their relationship has become a recent research interest. The current study used data from 907 Chinese adolescents to develop and validate the 12-item Generic Scale of Being Phubbed (GSBP) and 12-item Generic Scale of Phubbing (GSP) and explored the relationship between being phubbed and phubbing. The serial mediating role of psychological distress and problematic smartphone use in the relationship was examined. The exploratory structural equation modeling results revealed good construct validity for the three-factor 12-item GSBP and the four-factor 12-item GSP. Reliability and validity analyses revealed that the short versions of the scales had good construct reliability, internal consistency, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. Being phubbed was positively correlated with phubbing. The mediation model showed that psychological distress and problematic smartphone use serially mediated the relationship between being phubbed and phubbing. The current findings provide brief and valid instruments for the measurement of being phubbed and phubbing, as well as implications for the prevention and intervention of phubbing behaviors in adolescents. Standard response formats such as rating or visual analogue scales require respondents to condense distributions of latent states or behaviors into a single value. Whereas this is suitable to measure central tendency, it neglects the variance of distributions. As a remedy, variability may be measured using interval-response formats, more specifically the dual-range slider (RS2). Given the lack of an appropriate item response model for the RS2, we develop the Dirichlet dual response model (DDRM), an extension of the beta response model (BRM; Noel & Dauvier in Appl Psychol Meas, 31:47–73, 2007). We evaluate the DDRM's performance by assessing parameter recovery in a simulation study. Results indicate overall good parameter recovery, although parameters concerning interval width (which reflect variability in behavior or states) perform worse than parameters concerning central tendency. We also test the model empirically by jointly fitting the BRM and the DDRM to single-range slider (RS1) and RS2 responses for two Extraversion scales. While the DDRM has an acceptable fit, it shows some misfit regarding the RS2 interval widths. Nonetheless, the model indicates substantial differences between respondents concerning variability in behavior. High correlations between person parameters of the BRM and DDRM suggest convergent validity between the RS1 and the RS2 interval location. This study evaluated the construct validity of six scoring traits of an automated writing evaluation (AWE) system called MI Write. Persuasive essays (N = 100) written by students in grades 7 and 8 were randomized at the sentence-level using a script written with Python's NLTK module. Each persuasive essay was randomized 30 times (n = 3000 total randomizations), and the mean trait scores for each set of randomized iterations were compared to those of the control text across all traits. We were specifically interested in evaluating the effects of randomization on the high-level traits of idea development and organization. Given the rubrics and qualitative feedback provided by MI Write, we hypothesized that these high-level traits ought to be sensitive to sentence-level randomization (i.e., scores should decrease). Overall, complete randomizations did not consistently significantly impact trait scoring for these high-level writing traits. In fact, more than a third of the essays saw significant increases in one or both high-level traits despite randomization, indicating a disconnect between MI Write's formative feedback and its underlying constructs. Digital stress describes the stress and anxiety that accompanies notifications and alerts from and the usage of mobile and social media. According to recent studies, digital stress may help to explain the various effects of social media usage on psychological and behavioral outcomes. The Digital Stress Scale (DSS) is a psychometrically reliable measure of digital stress. The present study translated the DSS into Chinese and examined its psychometric properties among Chinese young adults. The results exhibited that the DSS was best characterized by a bifactor Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling (bifactor-ESEM) representation, which includes one general factor of digital stress and the combination of five specific factors which are Availability Stress, Approval Anxiety, Fear of Missing Out, Connection Overload, and Online Vigilance. The measurement and structural invariance of the bifactor-ESEM solution were demonstrated across male and female groups. Reliabilities of the general factor and specific factors of the DSS were sound with high Cronbach's alpha and MacDonald's coefficient omega. Previous studies have shown that safety climate, as the perceived priority in organizations, is associated with occupational accidents and injuries. Although a few safety climate measures have been developed to meet the needs of different industries in Taiwan, a general safety climate measure in Chinese is still not available. This study aimed to examine the validity and reliability of a Chinese safety climate measure translated from a shorter version of (Zohar and Luria's Journal of Applied Psychology, 90(4), 616-628, 2005) safety climate measure. After excluding 35 invalid responses, 513 employees working in 61 teams in four companies from the transportation (N = 108), high-tech (N = 253), construction (N = 95), and manufacturing (N = 57) industries participated in the current study, with a response rate of 92.54% (out of 590 distributed questionnaires). The results showed that a Chinese version of (Zohar and Luria's Journal of Applied Psychology, 90(4), 616-628, 2005) shortened safety climate measure had high reliability and satisfactory validity with safety motivation, safety-specific transformational leadership, safety behaviors (criterion-related validity), and other safety climate measures (convergent validity) at the individual and team levels. Despite the widely accepted recognition of the notion of self-respect and its importance for emotional well-being, it has received scant attention in the psychological literature. We report on the development and validation of a scale to measure trait (character-based) appraisal self-respect (ASR), conceptualised as a disposition to perceive or appraise oneself as being a respectworthy honourable person. We tested the factor structure, reliability, convergent, discriminant and criterion validity of the ASR scale in samples of adult individuals (combined N = 1910 across samples). The resulting ASR scale was found to be essentially unidimensional and showed good internal and acceptable test-retest reliability. Trait ASR was correlated with (yet distinct from) theoretically related measures of global self-esteem, moral self and principledness, and was distinct from other self-esteem facets not based on honourable character traits. Importantly, it related to well-being and prosocial behaviour over-and-above self-esteem. The validation work served to consolidate the theoretical boundaries and utility of this important concept. The purpose of the present study is to develop and validate the hypertension scale of the Quality of Life Instruments (QoL) for Chronic Diseases system, QLICD-HY (V2.0). The QLICD-HY (V2.0) was developed via a programmed decision method with several focus groups, nominal discussions and pilot testing. The data was collected from 370 hypertensive inpatients and measured their QoL three times before and after treatment. Using correlation, factor analyses, as well as t-tests, the psychometric properties of the scale were assessed with regard to validity, reliability and responsiveness. Correlation and factor analysis supported good construct validity and criterion-related validity when using Short Form 36 as a criterion. Test–retest reliability coefficients for the overall scale score and all domains, with the exception of the psychological and social domain (0.77, 0.78), were greater than 0.80, with a range of 0.77–0.92. The internal consistency for all domains was higher than 0.70. With the exception of the psychological domain and social domain, the overall score and scores for the majority of aspects within each domain underwent statistically significant changes (t-tests) after the treatment. Purpose: The animated activity questionnaire (AAQ) is a computer-based measure of activity limitations. To answer a question, patients choose the animation of a person performing an activity that matches their own level of limitation. The AAQ has not yet been tested for suitability to be applied as computer-adaptive test (CAT). Thus, the objective of this study was to develop and evaluate an AAQ-based CAT to facilitate the application of the AAQ in daily clinical care. Methods: Patients (n = 1408) with hip/knee osteoarthritis from Brazil, Denmark, France, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and the UK responded to all 17 AAQ items. Assumptions of item-response theory (IRT) modelling were investigated. To establish item parameters for the CAT, a graded response model was estimated. To evaluate the performance of post-hoc simulated AAQ-based CATs, precision, test length, and construct validity (correlations with well-established measures of activity limitations) were evaluated. Results: Unidimensionality (CFI = 0.95), measurement invariance (R2-change < 2%), and IRT item fit (S-X2p >.003) of the AAQ were supported. Performing simulated CATs, the mean test length was more than halved (≤ 8 items), while the range of precise measurement (standard error ≤ 0.3) was comparable to the full AAQ. The correlations between original AAQ scores and three AAQ-CAT versions were ≥ 0.95. Correlations of AAQ-CAT scores with patient-reported and performance measures of activity limitations were ≥ 0.60. Conclusion: The almost non-verbal AAQ-CAT is an innovative and efficient tool in patients with hip/knee osteoarthritis from various countries, measuring activity limitations with lower respondent burden, but similar precision and construct validity compared to the full AAQ. Purpose: Return to a normal state of living is a key patient-relevant outcome for sepsis survivors. The Reintegration to Normal Living Index (RNLI) assesses self-perceived participation in patients with chronic disease, but its psychometric properties have been analyzed neither for patients after sepsis nor in a German patient cohort. This study aims to analyze the psychometric properties of the German version of the RNLI in sepsis survivors. Methods: In a prospective multicenter survey study, 287 sepsis survivors were interviewed 6 and 12 months after hospital discharge. Multiple-group categorical confirmatory factor analyses with three competing models were used to explore the factor structure of the RNLI. Concurrent validity was evaluated in relation to the EQ-5D-3L and the Barthel Index of Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Results: Regarding structural validity, all models showed an acceptable model fit. Because of high correlation between the latent variables in the two-factor models (up to r = 0.969) and for reason of parsimony, we opted for the common factor model to analyze the concurrent validity. Our analyses showed moderate positive correlations between RNLI score and ADL score (r ≥ 0.630), EQ-5D-3L visual analogue scale (r ≥ 0.656) and EQ-5D-3L utility score (r ≥ 0.548). The reliability assessed by McDonald's Omega was 0.94. Conclusion: We found convincing evidence for good reliability, structural and concurrent validity of the RNLI in German sepsis survivors. Purpose: To determine whether treatment of anal high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL), vs active monitoring, is effective in reducing incidence of anal cancer in persons living with HIV, the US National Cancer Institute funded the Phase III ANal Cancer/HSIL Outcomes Research (ANCHOR) clinical trial. As no established patient-reported outcomes (PRO) tool exists for persons with anal HSIL, we sought to estimate the construct validity and responsiveness of the ANCHOR Health-Related Symptom Index (A-HRSI). Methods: The construct validity phase enrolled ANCHOR participants who were within two weeks of randomization to complete A-HRSI and legacy PRO questionnaires at a single time point. The responsiveness phase enrolled a separate cohort of ANCHOR participants who were not yet randomized to complete A-HRSI at three time points: prior to randomization (T1), 14–70 (T2), and 71–112 (T3) days following randomization. Results: Confirmatory factor analysis techniques established a three-factor model (i.e., physical symptoms, impact on physical functioning, impact on psychological functioning), with moderate evidence of convergent validity and strong evidence of discriminant validity in the construct validity phase (n = 303). We observed a significant moderate effect for changes in A-HRSI impact on physical functioning (standardized response mean = 0.52) and psychological symptoms (standardized response mean = 0.60) from T2 (n = 86) to T3 (n = 92), providing evidence of responsiveness. Conclusion: A-HRSI is a brief PRO index that captures health-related symptoms and impacts related to anal HSIL. This instrument may have broad applicability in other contexts assessing individuals with anal HSIL, which may ultimately help improve clinical care and assist providers and patients with medical decision-making. Objectives: This study aims to assess psychometric properties of the Hungarian PROMIS-29+2 profile measure and provide general population reference values for Hungary. Methods: An adult general population sample (n = 1700) completed PROMIS-29+2 v2.1 in an online survey. The following psychometric properties were assessed: floor and ceiling effect, convergent validity with SF-36v1 domains, internal consistency (McDonald's omega), unidimensionality, local independence, monotonicity, graded response model (GRM) fit and differential item functioning (DIF). Age- and gender-specific reference values were established using the US item calibrations. Results: Depending on scale orientation, high floor or ceiling effects were observed for all domains (25.2–60.7%) except for sleep disturbance. McDonald's omega for domains ranged from 0.87–0.97. Unidimensionality, local independence and monotonicity were supported and the GRM adequately fitted for all but one domains. The sleep disturbance domain demonstrated item misfit, response level disordering and low discrimination ability, particularly for item Sleep116 ('refreshing sleep'). Strong correlations were observed between PROMIS-29+2 and corresponding SF-36 domains (rs=│0.60│ to │0.78│). No DIF was detected for most sociodemographic characteristics. Problems with physical function, pain interference and social roles tended to increase, whereas problems with anxiety, depression, fatigue and cognitive function declined with age (p < 0.01). In all domains except for cognitive function, more health problems occurred in females than in males (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The Hungarian PROMIS-29+2 shows satisfactory psychometric properties; however, the sleep disturbance domain substantially underperforms that requires further attention. Purpose: To conduct a systematic review of the quality of existing patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) for use in women with uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) applying the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) methodology, and to derive recommendations for their use in future research. Methods: A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed and Web of Science. Studies reporting on the development and/or validation of any PROMs for uncomplicated UTIs in women were considered eligible. We evaluated the methodological quality of each included study using the COSMIN Risk of Bias Checklist, and further applied predefined criteria for good measurement properties. Finally, we graded the evidence and derived recommendations for the use of the included PROMs. Results: Data from 23 studies reporting on six PROMs were included. From those, the Acute Cystitis Symptom Score (ACSS) and the Urinary Tract Infection-Symptom and Impairment Questionnaire (UTI-SIQ-8) can be recommended for further use. Both instruments showed sufficient content validity. We further found high-quality evidence for sufficient internal consistency of the UTI-SIQ-8, while this criterion was not assessed for the ACSS due to a formative measurement model. All other PROMs have the potential to be recommended for use, but require further validation. Conclusion: The ACSS and the UTI-SIQ-8 have the potential to be recommended for use in women with uncomplicated UTIs in future clinical trials. Background: The Cluster Headache Impact Questionnaire (CHIQ) is a specific and easy-to-use questionnaire to assess the current impact of cluster headache (CH). The aim of this study was to validate the Italian version of the CHIQ. Methods: We included patients diagnosed with episodic CH (eCH) or chronic CH (cCH) according to the ICHD-3 criteria and included in the "Italian Headache Registry" (RICe). The questionnaire was administered to patients through an electronic form in two sessions: at first visit for validation, and after 7 days for test-retest reliability. For internal consistency, Cronbach's alpha was calculated. Convergent validity of the CHIQ with CH features and the results of questionnaires assessing anxiety, depression, stress, and quality of life was evaluated using Spearman's correlation coefficient. Results: We included 181 patients subdivided in 96 patients with active eCH, 14 with cCH, and 71 with eCH in remission. The 110 patients with either active eCH or cCH were included in the validation cohort; only 24 patients with CH were characterized by a stable attack frequency after 7 days, and were included in the test-retest cohort. Internal consistency of the CHIQ was good with a Cronbach alpha value of 0.891. The CHIQ score showed a significant positive correlation with anxiety, depression, and stress scores, while showing a significant negative correlation with quality-of-life scale scores. Conclusion: Our data show the validity of the Italian version of the CHIQ, which represents a suitable tool for evaluating the social and psychological impact of CH in clinical practice and research. Background: The present study aimed at deriving equating norms to estimate scores on the Edinburgh Cognitive and Behavioural ALS Screen (ECAS) based on those on the ALS Cognitive Behavioral Screen (ALS-CBS™) in an Italian cohort of non-demented ALS patients. Methods: ALS-CBS™ and ECAS scores of 293 ALS patients without frontotemporal dementia were retrospectively retrieved. Concurrent validity of the ALS-CBS™ towards the ECAS was tested by covarying for demographics, disease duration and severity, presence of C9orf72 hexanucleotide repeat expansion and behavioural features. A linear-smoothing equipercentile equating (LSEE) model was employed to derive ALS-CBS™-to-ECAS cross-walks. Gaps in LSEE-based estimation were managed via a linear regression-based equating approach. Equivalence between empirical and derived ECAS scores was tested via a two-one-sided test (TOST) procedure for the dependent sample. Results: The ALS-CBS™ predicted the ECAS (β = 0.75), accounting for the vast majority of its variance (60% out of an R2 = 0.71). Consistently, a strong, one-to-one linear association between ALS-CBS™ and ECAS scores was detected (r = 0.84; R2 = 0.73). The LSEE was able to estimate conversions for the full range of the ALS-CBS™, except for raw scores equal to 1 and 6 – for whom a linear equating-based equation was derived. Empirical ECAS scores were equivalent to those derived with both methods. Discussion: Italian practitioners and researchers have been herewith provided with valid, straightforward cross-walks to estimate the ECAS based on ALS-CBS™ scores in non-demented ALS patients. Purpose: To develop and validate a new questionnaire, the Kid-SSQ, for the rapid screening of hearing abilities in children with hearing impairment, aged 7–17 years. Methods: The questionnaire was constructed from two existing, validated versions of the 'Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing' - (SSQ) questionnaire (pediatric form and adult short-form). The 12 selected items included auditory aspects from three subscales: speech perception, spatial hearing, and qualities of hearing. This new short form was then validated in 154 children with cochlear implants (100 bilaterally, and 54 unilaterally implanted children). Construct validity was assessed by testing relationships between Kid-SSQ scores and objective clinical parameters (e.g., age at test, pure-tone audiometry-PTA threshold, speech reception threshold-SRT, duration of binaural experience). Results: Completion time was acceptable for use with children (less than 10 min) and the non-response rate was less than 1%. Good internal consistency was obtained (Cronbach's α = 0.78), with a stable internal structure corresponding to the 3 intended subscales. External validity showed the specificity of each subscale: speech subscale scores were significantly predicted (r = 0.32, p < 0.001) by both 2 kHz PTA threshold (β = 0.33, p < 0.001) and SRT (β = − 0.23, p < 0.001). Children with more binaural experience showed significantly higher scores on the spatial subscale than children with less binaural experience (F(1,98) = 5.1, p < 0.03) and the qualities of hearing subscale scores significantly depended on both age and SRT (r = 0.32, p < 0.001). The Screener for Substance and Behavioural Addictions (SSBA) was recently developed to measure addiction risk across a wide range of substances and behaviours in adult populations. University students are also a high-risk population for developing substance and behavioural additions. This study assessed the reliability, validity, and predictive utility of the SSBA in a sample of 656 university students. Participants completed the SSBA and external screening instruments for the target substances and behaviours. The SSBA demonstrated good-to-excellent convergent validity and internal consistency across all substance and behaviours. Selected cut-points also showed good sensitivity and specificity. Overall, the SSBA provides an accurate and reliable measure of addiction risk across a range substances and behaviours in university students. It may be an effective tool for identifying university students at-risk for developing addiction problems, and who would benefit from further clinical assessment. The validation of the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) in different cultural contexts is contributory in adding to the extant research body on psychometric qualities of the scale. The main purpose of this study was to examine the validity of the BSMAS, based on classical test theory and advanced psychometric testing, namely item response theory (IRT) and network analysis in a Romanian sample of 705 participants (39% males, aged 18–54 years, M = 30.24, SD ± 9.15). Composite reliability and McDonald's omega proved the very good internal consistency of the BSMAS-RO. The CFA highlighted the unifactorial model fitted well and measurement invariance across gender was revealed. Females obtained significantly higher scores on social media addiction (SMA) than males. As for concurrent validity, SMA correlated with social media intensity use, anxious attachment, social anxiety, need to belong, self-esteem, and happiness. IRT analysis proved adequate discrimination and difficulty parameters for all items. The highest discrimination was registered by salience criterion and the highest difficulty by conflict, withdrawal, and mood modification criteria. Relapse criterion had the lowest values of both parameters. Network analysis revealed that salience and withdrawal criteria had the highest indicators of centrality and relapse the lowest. Our findings revealed that the most relevant criteria to the diagnosis of SMA in Romanian people are salience, conflict, withdrawal, and mood modification. The robust psychometric properties of the BSMAS-RO provide health professionals a valid instrument for assessing SMA. Programs to prevent SMA must focus on dispositional traits as AATT, social anxiety, respectively unsatisfied need to belong, and promoting the ability to initiate and maintain rewarding social relationships. Attribution of mental states to self and others, i.e., mentalizing, is central to human life. Current measures are lacking in the ability to directly gauge the extent to which individuals engage in spontaneous mentalizing. Focusing on natural language use as an expression of inner psychological processes, we developed the Mental-Physical Verb Norms (MPVN). These norms are participant-derived ratings of the extent to which common verbs reflect mental (vs physical) activities and occurrences, covering a majority of verbs appearing in a given English text. Content validity was assessed against existing expert-compiled dictionaries of mental states and cognitive processes, as well as against normative ratings of verb concreteness. Criterion Validity was assessed through natural text analysis of both experimental data, and natural language use in a real-world online setting. Finally, incremental validity was assessed through a classification analysis. Results indicate the unique contribution of the MPVN ratings as a measure of the degree to which individuals adopt the intentional stance in describing targets, by describing both self and others in mental, opposite physical, terms. We discuss potential uses for future research across various psychological and neurocognitive disciplines, as well as theoretical implications regarding the use of mentalizing language within spontaneous contexts. Background: To compare measurement properties of the utility scores derived from various country-specific value sets of EQ-5D-5L (5L) and EORTC QLU-C10D (10D) in gastric cancer patient. Methods: The study used cross-sectional data of 243 Chinese gastric cancer patients who completed both 5L and EORTC QLQ-C30. Utility score of QLU-C10D is generated from all the available QLU-C10D value sets currently; the score of 5L is derived from the corresponding 5L value sets for the countries with both the 5L and QLU-C10D value sets and the Chinese 5L value set. Convergent validity was evaluated by testing their correlations with the VAS score. Known-group validity was assessed by comparing the utility scores the patients with different severities. Their relative efficiency (RE) was also compared. Results: Correlation coefficient of 5L and QLU-C10D utility scores with VAS ranged from 0.54 to 0.59, and 0.55 to 0.63, respectively. Both the utility scores were in general able to discriminate the patients with different severities; and 5L utility score had higher RE in the majority of known-groups. Conclusion: EQ-5D-5L and QLU-C10D utility scores were different and, thus, non-swappable. Youth who experience psychopathy display multiple impairments across interpersonal (grandiose-manipulative [GM]), affective (callous-unemotional [CU]), lifestyle (daring-impulsive [DI]), and potentially antisocial and behavioral features. Recently, it has been acknowledged that the inclusion of psychopathic features can offer valuable information in relation to the etiology of Conduct Disorder (CD). Yet, prior work largely focuses on the affective component of psychopathy, namely CU. This focus creates uncertainty in the literature on the incremental value of a multicomponent approach to understanding CD-linked domains. Consequently, researchers developed the Proposed Specifiers for Conduct Disorder (PSCD; Salekin & Hare, 2016) as a multicomponent approach to assess GM, CU, and DI features in combination with CD symptoms. The notion of considering the wider set of psychopathic features for CD specification requires testing whether multiple personality dimensions predict domain-relevant criterion outcomes above-and-beyond a CU-based approach. Thus, we tested the psychometric properties of parents' reports on the PSCD (PSCD-P) in a mixed clinical/community sample of 134 adolescents (Mage = 14.49, 66.4% female). Confirmatory factor analyses resulted in a 19-item PSCD-P displaying acceptable reliability estimates and a bifactor solution consisting of GM, CU, DI, and CD factors. Findings supported the incremental validity of scores taken from the PSCD-P across multiple criterion variables, including (a) an established survey measure of parent-adolescent conflict; and (b) trained independent observers' ratings of adolescents' behavioral reactions to laboratory controlled tasks designed to simulate social interactions with unfamiliar peers. Empowerment of the stigmatized and the marginalized has ever been the biggest concern of Indian society. However, essentially no universal measure exists to tap it. The aim was to develop a measure of socio-political empowerment to understand its meaning and structure amongst the Indian caste margins. Based on the elicited themes from a qualitative pilot study, 22 items were generated. The responses on these items from 260 Indian historically caste marginalized respondents were subjected to Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to study the basic psychometric properties. It resulted in 17 items across three factors: discrimination and equality, freedom to make choices in decision making and controllability over resources. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was conducted on 150 respondents to assess the three-factor composition of the construct of Socio-political empowerment. The final 11-items socio-political empowerment scale confirmed that the three factor model fits the data well with an internal consistency reliability of 0.73. Education and income (monthly and/or family) were negatively correlated with discrimination and equality dimension and positively correlated with the other two. Urban respondents reported significantly higher socio-political empowerment. The classical p -Laplace equation is one of the special and significant second-order ODEs. The fractional-order p -Laplace ODE is an important generalization. In this paper, we mainly treat with a nonlinear coupling (p 1 , p 2) -Laplacian systems involving the nonsingular Atangana–Baleanu (AB) fractional derivative. In accordance with the value range of parameters p 1 and p 2 , we obtain sufficient criteria for the existence and uniqueness of solution in four cases. By using some inequality techniques we further establish the generalized UH-stability for this system. Finally, we test the validity and practicality of the main results by an example. System justification theory contends that people are motivated to consider the social arrangements as just, legitimate and necessary. The adequate assessment of individual differences regarding this motivation is a critical issue in this field, especially in a cultural context of profound social inequalities like Brazil. We addressed this issue by proposing an adapted and modified version of the General System Justification Scale (GSJS). In Study 1, we explored the content validity of the GSJS through expert analysis. In Study 2 (n = 305), we conducted exploratory factor analysis and found a single-factor structure. In Study 3 (n = 307), we confirmed this factorial structure. In Study 4 (n = 227), we estimated the convergent-discriminating and incremental validity of the SJS by comparing it with correlated constructs. Finally, in Study 5 (n = 100), we experimentally manipulated a news story about a high (vs. low) threat to the Brazilian system, and observed the predictive validity of the GSJS. In general, the results showed that the new version of the GSJS is a valid and reliable measure. Furthermore, they suggest the new version of the GSJS is a useful tool to measure individual differences in justification of social inequalities in a context of deep social disparities. Fear of sleep is an emerging construct that is connected to the pathogenic mechanisms underlying sleep disorders in individuals with traumatic experiences. The present study aimed to examine the factor structure and psychometric qualities of the Turkish version of the Fear of Sleep Inventory Short Form (FOSI-SF; Pruiksma et al. A total of 420 adults aged between 18–68 (177 female; M = 41.03, SD = 15.02) responded to the online survey. In addition to FoSI-SF, participants responded to scales measuring insomnia, repetitive negative thinking, anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms. Different from the original two-factor structure of FoSI-SF, the Turkish version yielded three factors as fear and threat perception, vulnerability and hypervigilance, and fear of darkness. FoSI-SF Turkish and its subscales displayed satisfactory levels of internal consistency and significant correlations with measures of insomnia, repetitive negative thinking, and psychopathology as indicative of convergent validity. Moreover, FoSI-SF had significant associations with insomnia symptoms only among the participants who had clinically significant levels of PTSD. For decades, the concept of enjoyment has been used to measure the psychological benefits of activities and has been shown to determine future behavior toward activities and objects of interest. However, there has been little consensus on the definition and dimensionality of enjoyment. This study introduced a new measure of enjoyment with scale development and validation reported. CFA and EFA findings from 1466 participants across 739 different activities were reported. The instrument developed measured enjoyment across activities, with demonstrated content validity, internal consistency, discriminant and convergent validity. The final 25-item version of the ENJOY scale is composed of 5 factors: pleasure, relatedness, competence, challenge/improvement, and engagement. The action crisis represents the decisional conflict between persisting in pursuing a goal and giving it up. In the current study, the results of adaptation of the Action crisis scale to Slovak are presented across 11 subsamples and 1507 participants. The confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the original structure with 6 items does not provide an acceptable fit. The network analysis further showed that the most problematic item related to rumination was not stable and was connected to only one other node. Thus, a revised solution with five and four items was proposed (S-ACRISS R). In order to corroborate the convergent validity, a nomological network with 13 theoretically derived variables was examined. The results of the mini meta-analysis established the expected pattern of relationships with variables covering areas such as individual differences, motivation, goal-related cognitions, goal-related affect as well as variables associated with the process of goal attainment. This investigation aimed to validate a Japanese version of the Modest Behavior Scale (MBS-J) to measure the behavioral aspects of modesty as a self-presentation tactic. Two preliminary surveys and three studies were conducted. Study 1 examined the factorial validity, construct validity, and internal consistency of the MBS, adding emic items generated from the Japanese sample in the preliminary surveys. The results confirmed a three-factor structure of Self-Effacement, Other-Enhancement, and Avoidance of Attention-Seeking, with good internal consistency for each subscale. Studies 1 and 3 also evinced appropriate correlations between the MBS-J subscales and theoretically related constructs, namely, trait modesty, independent and interdependent self-construal, self-efficacy, self-esteem, approval motivation, and dialectical self, suggesting good construct validity. Using a two-wave survey, Study 2 showed good test–retest reliability for the MBS-J. In Study 3, it was hypothesized that those with higher Self-Effacement tend to report lower explicit self-esteem owing to a self-presentation strategy instead of actual lower self-regard. The results showed that Self-Effacement was strongly negatively correlated with explicit self-esteem but not correlated with implicit self-esteem, supporting the hypothesis. Human Quality Treatment (HQT) is a theoretical approach expressing different ways of dealing with employees within an organization and is embedded in humanistic management tenants of dignity, care, and personal development, seeking to produce morally excellent employees. We build on the theoretical exposition and present a measure of HQT-Scale across several studies including cross-culturally to enhance confidence in our results. Our first study generates the 25 items for the HQT-Scale and provides initial support for the items. We then followed up with a large study of managers (n = 363) from Nigeria in study 2, which confirms the theoretical properties of the five dimensions of HQT and highlights a two-factor construct: HQT Ethically Unacceptable and HQT Ethically Acceptable using a 20-item HQT-Scale. Study 3 with a large sample of New Zealand employees (n = 452) again confirms the nature of the construct and provides construct validity tests. Finally, using time-lagged data, study 4 (n = 308) focuses on New Zealand employees and job attitudes and behaviors, and a well-being outcome. That study not only confirms the theoretically implied effects but also shows the HQT Ethically Acceptable factor mediates the detrimental effects of HQT Ethically Unacceptable. Saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) is an important hydraulic property of geomaterials. Its measurement requires tested specimens be large enough to avoid any specimen size effect (SSE). This is challenging for coarse granular materials. Accordingly, the minimum required specimen diameter (D) over maximum particle size (dmax) ratio of 8 or 12 specified by ASTM D2434-19 (hereafter named ASTM) is commonly adopted for constant head permeability tests even though its validity has never been illustrated. In order to test the validity of this minimum required D/dmax ratio, a series of constant head permeability tests have been performed on four materials using several columns of different sizes. The results show that the minimum D/dmax ratio of 8 or 12 specified by ASTM is too small to eliminate SSE. A revision on the minimum required D/dmax ratio of 8 or 12 specified by ASTM D2434-19 seems to be necessary. The experimental results further show that a D/dmax ratio of 86 seems to be large enough to avoid SSE in constant head permeability tests. More experimental work is required to identify the minimum required D/dmax ratio that can be generally considered as large enough to eliminate any SSE in constant head permeability tests.
