This open access book collects the major discussions in divorce research in Europe. It starts with an understanding of divorce trends. Why was divorce increasing so rapidly throughout the US and Europe and do we see signs of a turn? Do cohabitation breakups influence divorce trends or is there a renewed stability on the partner market? In terms of divorce risks, the book contains new insights on Eastern European countries. These post socialist countries have evolved dramatically since the fall of the Wall and at present they show the highest divorce figures in Europe. Also the influence of gender, and more specifically women’s education as a risk in divorce is examined cross nationally. The book also provides explanations for the negative gradient in female education effects on divorce. It devotes three separate parts to new insights in the post-divorce effects of the life course event by among others looking at consequences for adults and children but also taking the larger family network into account. Die Open-Access-Studie nimmt eine plurale Perspektive auf Survey-Qualität ein und untersucht empirisch unterschiedliche Logiken der Survey-Produktion. Wie aufgezeigt wird, gehen die vier identifizierten Survey-Welten mit unterschiedlichen Koordinationsprozessen und Qualitätskonventionen einher. Survey-Qualität wird dabei auf einer pragmatischen Basis im Hinblick auf unterschiedliche Nutzungskontexte von statistischen Daten konzipiert. Durch die Verknüpfung der Qualitätsthematik mit der praktischen Organisation des Produktionsprozesses von surveybasierten Daten wird eine engere Verbindung zwischen den Arbeiten der normativen Survey-Methodologie und den Herausforderungen der empirischen Survey-Praxis angestrebt. Dieses Open-Access-Buch setzt die 2018 begonnene Sammlung von Methoden für transdisziplinäre, transformative wie nicht-transformative Forschung fort. Auch in Band 2 werden Methoden der Wissenserzeugung, Wissensintegration und Transformation so ausführlich beschrieben, dass Dritte sie umsetzen können. Entwickelt wurden die Methoden von Reallaboren in Baden-Württemberg, sie eignen sich jedoch auch für Forschung außerhalb von Reallaboren. Reflexionen insbesondere über die Zusammenarbeit mit kommunalen Praxisakteuren runden das Buch ab. Auch diese sind gewonnen aus der forschungspraktischen Erfahrung in Reallaboren und adressieren Fragen transdisziplinärer Forschung, die weit über das Forschungsformat Reallabor hinausreichen. Der Herausgeber und die Herausgeberin: Fürspr. This open access book provides a unique study of the complexities and consequences of irregular legal status of Senegalese migrants in Europe. It employs sophisticated quantitative methods to analyze unique life-history data to produce policy-relevant conclusions. Using the MAFE dataset as empirical evidence, the book focuses on the legal paths of Senegalese migrants in three different European countries. It shows how multiple contexts of reception produce pathways into irregular legal status and how the resulting complex configurations of irregular status shape migrants’ economic integration into their host societies as well as their ongoing participation in the development of their sending societies. The book thereby increases our understanding of the functioning of African migration systems and the corresponding inclusion patterns in Europe. As such this book will be of interest to scholars working in migration studies, policy makers, and legal professionals.

This open access volume examines experiences of contemporary Latvian migrants, thereby focusing on reasons for emigration, processes of integration in their host countries, and – in the case of return migration - re-integration in their home country. In the context of European migration, the book describes the case of Latvia, which is interesting due to the multiple waves of excessive emigration, continuously high migration potential among European Union member states, and diverse migrant characteristics. It provides a fascinating insight into the social and psychological aspects linked to migration in a comparative context. This open access book explores the complex relationship between schooling as a set of practices embedded in educational institutions and their specific spatial dimensions from different disciplinary perspectives. It presents innovative empirical and conceptual research by international scholars from the fields of social geography, pedagogy, educational and social sciences in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Czechia, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Canada. The book covers a broad range of topics, all examined from a spatial perspective: the governance of schooling, the transition processes of and within national school systems, the question of small schools in peripheral areas as well as the embeddedness of schooling in broader processes of social change. This open access book provides insight on current patterns of migration in Switzerland, which fall along a continuum from long-term and permanent to more temporary and fluid. These patterns are shaped by the interplay of legal norms, economic drivers and societal factors. The various dimensions of this Migration-Mobility Nexus are investigated by means of newly collected survey data: the Migration-Mobility Survey. The book covers different aspects of life in the host country, including the family dimension, the labour market and political participation as well as social integration. The book also takes into account the chronological dimension of migration by considering the migrants’ arrival, their stay, and their expectations regarding return. Through applying conclusions drawn from the Swiss context to the migration literature on other European and high-income countries, this book contributes to new knowledge on current migration processes in high-income countries. As such it will be a valuable reference work to scholars and students in migration, social scientists and policy makers.

This open access book bridges the disciplinary boundaries within the social sciences to explore the role of social institutions in shaping geographical contexts, and in creating new knowledge.
