Purpose: The noninvasive monitoring of mild hyperthermia or thermal ablation is important to guarantee therapeutic safety and efficacy. The potential of ultrasound B-mode image texture features in monitoring temperature or coagulation zones studied in this article., Materials and Methods: The experiments carried out on eighteen in vitro porcine liver samples heated from 20°C to 60°C in the water bath. The ultrasound radiofrequency signal at different temperature collected to reconstruct B-mode ultrasound images. The texture features based on gray level histogram (GLH), gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM), and gray level-gradient co-occurrence matrix (GGCM) extracted, respectively. Accordingly, we analyze the correlations between these texture features and temperature based on the experiment results., Results: The results showed that five texture feature parameters closely related to temperature, including mean gray scale of GLH, homogeneity of GLCM, hybrid entropy, inverse difference moment, and correlation of GGCM. Assessing species richness and diversity on the basis of standardised field sampling effort represents a cost- and time-consuming method. Satellite remote sensing (RS) can help overcome these limitations because it facilitates the collection of larger amounts of spatial data using cost-effective techniques. RS information is hence increasingly analysed to model biodiversity across space and time. Here, we focus on image texture measures as a proxy for spatial habitat heterogeneity, which has been recognized as an important determinant of species distributions and diversity. Using bee monitoring data of four years (2010–2013) from six 4 × 4 km field sites across Central Germany and a multimodel inference approach we test the ability of texture features derived from Landsat-TM imagery to model local pollinator biodiversity. Textures were shown to reflect patterns of bee diversity and species richness to some extent, with the first-order entropy texture and terrain roughness being the most relevant indicators. However, the texture measurements accounted for only 3–5% of up to 60% of the variability that was explained by our final models, although the results are largely consistent across different species groups (bumble bees, solitary bees). While our findings provide indications in support of the applicability of satellite imagery textures for modeling patterns of bee biodiversity, they are inconsistent with the high predictive power of texture metrics reported in previous studies for avian biodiversity. We assume that our texture data captured mainly heterogeneity resulting from landscape configuration, which might be functionally less important for wild bees than compositional diversity of plant communities. Reports have suggested that tumor textures presented on T2-weighted images correlate with the genetic status of glioma. Therefore, development of an image analyzing framework that is capable of objective and high throughput image texture analysis for large scale image data collection is needed. The current study aimed to address the development of such a framework by introducing two novel parameters for image textures on T2-weighted images, i.e., Shannon entropy and Prewitt filtering. Twenty-two WHO grade 2 and 28 grade 3 glioma patients were collected whose pre-surgical MRI and IDH1 mutation status were available. Heterogeneous lesions showed statistically higher Shannon entropy than homogenous lesions (p = 0.006) and ROC curve analysis proved that Shannon entropy on T2WI was a reliable indicator for discrimination of homogenous and heterogeneous lesions (p = 0.015, AUC = 0.73). Lesions with well-defined borders exhibited statistically higher Edge mean and Edge median values using Prewitt filtering than those with vague lesion borders (p = 0.0003 and p = 0.0005 respectively). ROC curve analysis also proved that both Edge mean and median values were promising indicators for discrimination of lesions with vague and well defined borders and both Edge mean and median values performed in a comparable manner (p = 0.0002, AUC = 0.81 and p < 0.0001, AUC = 0.83, respectively). Finally, IDH1 wild type gliomas showed statistically lower Shannon entropy on T2WI than IDH1 mutated gliomas (p = 0.007) but no difference was observed between IDH1 wild type and mutated gliomas in Edge median values using Prewitt filtering. The current study introduced two image metrics that reflect lesion texture described on T2WI. These two metrics were validated by readings of a neuro-radiologist who was blinded to the results. Processing faces accurately and efficiently is a key capability of humans and other animals that engage in sophisticated social tasks. Recent studies reported a decoupled coding for faces in the primate inferotemporal cortex, with two separate neural populations coding for the geometric position of (texture-free) facial landmarks and for the image texture at fixed landmark positions, respectively. Here, we formally assess the efficiency of this decoupled coding by appealing to the information-theoretic notion of description length, which quantifies the amount of information that is saved when encoding novel facial images, with a given precision. We show that despite decoupled coding describes the facial images in terms of two sets of principal components (of landmark shape and image texture), it is more efficient (i.e., yields more information compression) than the encoding in terms of the image principal components only, which corresponds to the widely used eigenface method. The advantage of decoupled coding over eigenface coding increases with image resolution and is especially prominent when coding variants of training set images that only differ in facial expressions. Moreover, we demonstrate that decoupled coding entails better performance in three different tasks: the representation of facial images, the (daydream) sampling of novel facial images, and the recognition of facial identities and gender. In summary, our study provides a first principle perspective on the efficiency and accuracy of the decoupled coding of facial stimuli reported in the primate inferotemporal cortex. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are the state-of-the-art for automated assessment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) from medical image data. However, these methods lack interpretability, mainly focus on image texture, and cannot completely grasp the analyzed anatomies' shapes. In this study we assess the informative value of quantitative features derived from segmentations in order to assess their potential as an alternative or extension to CNN-based approaches regarding multiple aspects of KOA. Six anatomical structures around the knee (femoral and tibial bones, femoral and tibial cartilages, and both menisci) are segmented in 46,996 MRI scans. Based on these segmentations, quantitative features are computed, i.e., measurements such as cartilage volume, meniscal extrusion and tibial coverage, as well as geometric features based on a statistical shape encoding of the anatomies. The feature quality is assessed by investigating their association to the Kellgren-Lawrence grade (KLG), joint space narrowing (JSN), incident KOA, and total knee replacement (TKR). Using gold standard labels from the Osteoarthritis Initiative database the balanced accuracy (BA), the area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic curve (AUC), and weighted kappa statistics are evaluated. Features based on shape encodings of femur, tibia, and menisci plus the performed measurements showed most potential as KOA biomarkers. Differentiation between non-arthritic and severely arthritic knees yielded BAs of up to 99%, 84% were achieved for diagnosis of early KOA. Weighted kappa values of 0.73, 0.72, and 0.78 were achieved for classification of the grade of medial JSN, lateral JSN, and KLG, respectively. The AUC was 0.61 and 0.76 for prediction of incident KOA and TKR within one year, respectively. Quantitative features from automated segmentations provide novel biomarkers for KLG and JSN classification and show potential for incident KOA and TKR prediction. The validity of these features should be further evaluated, especially as extensions of CNN-based approaches. Background: There is increasing interest in applying image texture quantifiers to assess the intra-tumor heterogeneity observed in FDG-PET images of various cancers. Use of these quantifiers as prognostic indicators of disease outcome and/or treatment response has yielded inconsistent results. We study the general applicability of some well-established texture quantifiers to the image data unique to FDG-PET. Methods: We first created computer-simulated test images with statistical properties consistent with clinical image data for cancers of the uterine cervix. We specifically isolated second-order statistical effects from low-order effects and analyzed the resulting variation in common texture quantifiers in response to contrived image variations. We then analyzed the quantifiers computed for FIGOIIb cervical cancers via receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and via contingency table analysis of detrended quantifier values. Results: We found that image texture quantifiers depend strongly on low-effects such as tumor volume and SUV distribution. When low-order effects are controlled, the image texture quantifiers tested were not able to discern only the second-order effects. Furthermore, the results of clinical tumor heterogeneity studies might be tunable via choice of patient population analyzed. Purpose: Image texture is increasingly used to discriminate tissues and lesions in PET/CT. For quantification or in computer-aided diagnosis, textural feature analysis must produce robust and comparable values. Because statistical feature values depend on image count statistics, we investigated in depth the stability of Haralick features values as functions of acquisition duration, and for common image resolutions and reconstructions. Methods: A homogeneous cylindrical phantom containing 9.6 kBq/ml Ge-68 was repeatedly imaged on a Siemens Biograph mCT, with acquisition durations ranging from three seconds to three hours. Images with 1.5, 2, and 4 mm isometrically spaced voxels were reconstructed with filtered back-projection (FBP), ordered subset expectation maximization (OSEM), and the Siemens TrueX algorithm. We analysed Haralick features derived from differently quantized (3 to 8-bit) grey level co-occurrence matrices (GLCMs) as functions of exposure E, which we defined as the product of activity concentration in a volume of interest (VOI) and acquisition duration. The VOI was a 50 mm wide cube at the centre of the phantom. Feature stability was defined for df/dE → 0. Results: The most stable feature values occurred in low resolution FBPs, whereas some feature values from 1.5 mm TrueX reconstructions ranged over two orders of magnitude. Within the same reconstructions, most feature value-exposure curves reached stable plateaus at similar exposures, regardless of GLCM quantization. With 8-bit GLCM, median time to stability was 16 s and 22 s for FBPs, 18 s and 125 s for OSEM, and 23 s, 45 s, and 76 s for PSF reconstructions, with longer durations for higher resolutions. Stable exposures coincided in OSEM and TrueX reconstructions with image noise distributions converging to a Gaussian. In FBP, the occurrence of stable values coincided the disappearance of negatives image values in the VOI. Conclusions: Haralick feature values depend strongly on exposure, but invariance exists within defined domains of exposure. Here, we present an easily replicable procedure to identify said stable exposure domains, where image noise does not substantially add to textural feature values. Only by imaging at predetermined feature-invariant exposure levels and by adjusting exposure to expected activity concentrations, can textural features have a quantitative use in PET/CT. Background: Temperature prediction is crucial in the clinical ablation treatment of liver cancer, as it can be used to estimate the coagulation zone of microwave ablation. Methods: Experiments were conducted on 83 fresh ex vivo porcine liver tissues at two ablation powers of 15 W and 20 W. Ultrasound grayscale images and temperature data from multiple sampling points were collected. The machine learning method of random forests was used to train the selected texture features, obtaining temperature prediction models for sampling points and the entire ultrasound imaging area. The accuracy of the algorithm was assessed by measuring the area of the hyperechoic area in the porcine liver tissue cross-section and ultrasound grayscale images. Results: The model exhibited a high degree of accuracy in temperature prediction and the identification of coagulation zone. Within the test sets for the 15 W and 20 W power groups, the average absolute error for temperature prediction was 1.14°C and 4.73°C, respectively. Notably, the model's accuracy in measuring the area of coagulation was higher than that of traditional ultrasonic grey-scale imaging, with error ratios of 0.402 and 0.182 for the respective power groups. Additionally, the model can filter out texture features with a high correlation to temperature, providing a certain degree of interpretability. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine and compare the performance of pre-treatment clinical risk score (CRS), radiomics models based on computed (CT), and their combination for predicting time to recurrence (TTR) and disease-specific survival (DSS) in patients with colorectal cancer liver metastases. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed a prospectively maintained registry of 241 patients treated with systemic chemotherapy and surgery for colorectal cancer liver metastases. Radiomics features were extracted from baseline, pre-treatment, contrast-enhanced CT images. Multiple aggregation strategies were investigated for cases with multiple metastases. Radiomics signatures were derived using feature selection methods. Random survival forests (RSF) and neural network survival models (DeepSurv) based on radiomics features, alone or combined with CRS, were developed to predict TTR and DSS. Leveraging survival models predictions, classification models were trained to predict TTR within 18 months and DSS within 3 years. Classification performance was assessed with area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) on the test set. Results: For TTR prediction, the concordance index (95% confidence interval) was 0.57 (0.57–0.57) for CRS, 0.61 (0.60–0.61) for RSF in combination with CRS, and 0.70 (0.68–0.73) for DeepSurv in combination with CRS. For DSS prediction, the concordance index was 0.59 (0.59–0.59) for CRS, 0.57 (0.56–0.57) for RSF in combination with CRS, and 0.60 (0.58–0.61) for DeepSurv in combination with CRS. For TTR classification, the AUC was 0.33 (0.33–0.33) for CRS, 0.77 (0.75–0.78) for radiomics signature alone, and 0.58 (0.57–0.59) for DeepSurv score alone. For DSS classification, the AUC was 0.61 (0.61–0.61) for CRS, 0.57 (0.56–0.57) for radiomics signature, and 0.75 (0.74–0.76) for DeepSurv score alone. Conclusion: Radiomics-based survival models outperformed CRS for TTR prediction. Steganography, the use of algorithms to embed secret information in a carrier image, is widely used in the field of information transmission, but steganalysis tools built using traditional steganographic algorithms can easily identify them. Steganography without embedding (SWE) can effectively resist detection by steganography analysis tools by mapping noise onto secret information and generating secret images from secret noise. However, most SWE still have problems with the small capacity of steganographic data and the difficulty of extracting the data. Based on the above problems, this paper proposes image steganography without embedding carrier secret information. The objective of this approach is to enhance the capacity of secret information and the accuracy of secret information extraction for the purpose of improving the performance of security network communication. The proposed technique exploits the carrier characteristics to generate the carrier secret tensor, which improves the accuracy of information extraction while ensuring the accuracy of secret information extraction. Furthermore, the Wasserstein distance is employed as a constraint for the discriminator, and weight clipping is introduced to enhance the secret information capacity and extraction accuracy. Experimental results show that the proposed method can improve the data extraction accuracy by 10.03% at the capacity of 2304 bits, which verifies the effectiveness and universality of the method. The research presented here introduces a new intelligent information steganography secure communication model for secure communication in networks, which can improve the information capacity and extraction accuracy of image steganography without embedding. In the field of image processing, common noise types include Gaussian noise, salt and pepper noise, speckle noise, uniform noise and pulse noise. Different types of noise require different denoising algorithms and techniques to maintain image quality and fidelity. Traditional image denoising methods not only remove image noise, but also result in the detail loss in the image. It cannot guarantee the clean removal of noise information while preserving the true signal of the image. To address the aforementioned issues, an image denoising method combining an improved threshold function and wavelet transform is proposed in the experiment. Unlike traditional threshold functions, the improved threshold function is a continuous function that can avoid the pseudo Gibbs effect after image denoising and improve image quality. During the process, the output image of the finite ridge wave transform is first combined with the wavelet transform to improve the denoising performance. Then, an improved threshold function is introduced to enhance the quality of the reconstructed image. In addition, to evaluate the performance of different algorithms, different densities of Gaussian noise are added to Lena images of black, white, and color in the experiment. The results showed that when adding 0.010.01 variance Gaussian noise to black and white images, the peak signal-to-noise ratio of the research method increased by 2.58dB in a positive direction. The mean square error decreased by 0.10dB. When using the algorithm for denoising, the research method had a minimum denoising time of only 13ms, which saved 9ms and 3ms compared to the hard threshold algorithm (Hard TA) and soft threshold algorithm (Soft TA), respectively. The research method exhibited higher stability, with an average similarity error fluctuating within 0.89%. The above results indicate that the research method has smaller errors and better system stability in image denoising. Spatial transcriptome technology can parse transcriptomic data at the spatial level to detect high-throughput gene expression and preserve information regarding the spatial structure of tissues. Identifying spatial domains, that is identifying regions with similarities in gene expression and histology, is the most basic and critical aspect of spatial transcriptome data analysis. Most current methods identify spatial domains only through a single view, which may obscure certain important information and thus fail to make full use of the information embedded in spatial transcriptome data. Therefore, we propose an unsupervised clustering framework based on multiview graph convolutional networks (MVST) to achieve accurate spatial domain recognition by the learning graph embedding features of neighborhood graphs constructed from gene expression information, spatial location information, and histopathological image information through multiview graph convolutional networks. By exploring spatial transcriptomes from multiple views, MVST enables data from all parts of the spatial transcriptome to be comprehensively and fully utilized to obtain more accurate spatial expression patterns. We verified the effectiveness of MVST on real spatial transcriptome datasets, the robustness of MVST on some simulated datasets, and the reasonableness of the framework structure of MVST in ablation experiments, and from the experimental results, it is clear that MVST can achieve a more accurate spatial domain identification compared with the current more advanced methods. In conclusion, MVST is a powerful tool for spatial transcriptome research with improved spatial domain recognition. The method of partial differential equations for image inpainting achieves better repair results and is economically feasible with fast repair time. Addresses the inability of Curvature-Driven Diffusion (CDD) models to repair complex textures or edges when the input image is affected by severe noise or distortion, resulting in discontinuous repair features, blurred detail textures, and an inability to deal with the consistency of global image content, In this paper, we have the CDD model of P-Laplace operator term to image inpainting. In this method, the P-Laplace operator is firstly introduced into the diffusion term of CDD model to regulate the diffusion speed; then the improved CDD model is discretized, and the known information around the broken region is divided into two weighted average iterations to get the inpainting image; finally, the final inpainting image is obtained by weighted averaging the two image inpainting images according to the distancing. Experiments show that the model restoration results in this paper are more rational in terms of texture structure and outperform other models in terms of visualization and objective data. Comparing the inpainting images with 150, 1000 and 100 iterations respectively, Total Variation(TV) model and the CDD model inpainting algorithm always has inpainting traces in details, and TV model can't meet the visual connectivity, but the algorithm in this paper can remove the inpainting traces well, TV model and the CDD model inpainting algorithm always have inpainting traces in details, and TV model can't meet the visual connectivity, but the algorithm in this paper can remove the inpainting traces well. Antimicrobial biopolymers provide a biodegradable, sustainable, safe, and cheap approach to drug delivery and wound dressing to control bacterial infection and improve wound healing respectively. Here, we report a one-step method of making antimicrobial alginate polymer from sodium alginate and aqueous extract of Wakame using antibiotic aminoglycosides. Thin layer chromatography of commercially available sodium alginate and Wakame extract showed similar oligosaccharide profiles. Screening of six aminoglycosides showed that kanamycin disulfate and neomycin sulfate produces the highest amount of biopolymer; however, kanamycin disulfate produces the most malleable and form fitting biopolymer. Image texture analysis of biopolymers showed similar quantification parameters for all the six aminoglycosides. Weight of alginate polymer as a function of aminoglycoside concentration follows a growth model of prion protein, consistent with the aggregating nature of both processes. Slow release of antibiotics and the resulting zone of inhibition against E. coli DH5α were observed by agar well diffusion assay. Texture analysis is an important topic in Ultrasound (US) image analysis for structure segmentation and tissue classification. In this work a novel approach for US image texture feature extraction is presented. It is mainly based on parametrical modelling of a signal version of the US image in order to process it as data resulting from a dynamical process. Because of the predictive characteristics of such a model representation, good estimations of texture features can be obtained with less data than generally used methods require, allowing higher robustness to low Signal-to-Noise ratio and a more localized US image analysis. The usability of the proposed approach was demonstrated by extracting texture features for segmenting the thyroid in US images. The obtained results showed that features corresponding to energy ratios between different modelled texture frequency bands allowed to clearly distinguish between thyroid and non-thyroid texture. A simple k-means clustering algorithm has been used for separating US image patches as belonging to thyroid or not. Background: Schistosomiasis japonica represents a significant public health concern in South Asia. There is an urgent need to optimize existing schistosomiasis diagnostic techniques. This study aims to develop models for the different stages of liver fibrosis caused by Schistosoma infection utilizing ultrasound radiomics and machine learning techniques. Methods: From 2018 to 2022, we retrospectively collected data on 1,531 patients and 5,671 B-mode ultrasound images from the Second People's Hospital of Duchang City, Jiangxi Province, China. The datasets were screened based on inclusion and exclusion criteria suitable for radiomics models. Liver fibrosis due to Schistosoma infection (LFSI) was categorized into four stages: grade 0, grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3. The data were divided into six binary classification problems, such as group 1 (grade 0 vs. grade 1) and group 2 (grade 0 vs. grade 2). Key radiomic features were extracted using Pyradiomics, the Mann-Whitney U test, and the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO). Machine learning models were constructed using Support Vector Machine (SVM), and the contribution of different features in the model was described by applying Shapley Additive Explanations (SHAP). Results: This study ultimately included 1,388 patients and their corresponding images. A total of 851 radiomics features were extracted for each binary classification problems. Following feature selection, 18 to 76 features were retained from each groups. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for the validation cohorts was 0.834 (95% CI: 0.779–0.885) for the LFSI grade 0 vs. LFSI grade 1, 0.771 (95% CI: 0.713–0.835) for LFSI grade 1 vs. LFSI grade 2, and 0.830 (95% CI: 0.762–0.885) for LFSI grade 2 vs. LFSI grade 3. Conclusion: Machine learning models based on ultrasound radiomics are feasible for classifying different stages of liver fibrosis caused by Schistosoma infection. In recent years, various data-driven algorithms have been applied to the classification and staging of brain glioma MRI detection. However, the restricted availability of brain glioma MRI data in purely data-driven deep learning algorithms has presented challenges in extracting high-quality features and capturing their complex patterns. Moreover, the analysis methods designed for 2D data necessitate the selection of ideal tumor image slices, which does not align with practical clinical scenarios. Our research proposes an novel brain glioma staging model, Medical Cognition Embedded (MCE) model for 3D data. This model embeds knowledge characteristics into data-driven approaches to enhance the quality of feature extraction. Approach includes the following key components: (1) Deep feature extraction, drawing upon the imaging technical characteristics of different MRI sequences, has led to the design of two methods at both the algorithmic and strategic levels to mimic the learning process of real image interpretation by medical professionals during film reading; (2) We conduct an extensive Radiomics feature extraction, capturing relevant features such as texture, morphology, and grayscale distribution; (3) By referencing key points in radiological diagnosis, Radiomics feature experimental results, and the imaging characteristics of various MRI sequences, we manually create diagnostic features (Diag-Features). Depending on the degree of fracture, pelvic fracture can be accompanied by vascular damage, and in severe cases, it may progress to hemorrhagic shock. Pelvic radiography can quickly diagnose pelvic fractures, and the Association for Osteosynthesis Foundation and Orthopedic Trauma Association (AO/OTA) classification system is useful for evaluating pelvic fracture instability. This study aimed to develop a radiomics-based machine-learning algorithm to quickly diagnose fractures on pelvic X-ray and classify their instability. data used were pelvic anteroposterior radiographs of 990 adults over 18 years of age diagnosed with pelvic fractures, and 200 normal subjects. A total of 93 features were extracted based on radiomics:18 first-order, 24 GLCM, 16 GLRLM, 16 GLSZM, 5 NGTDM, and 14 GLDM features. To improve the performance of machine learning, the feature selection methods RFE, SFS, LASSO, and Ridge were used, and the machine learning models used LR, SVM, RF, XGB, MLP, KNN, and LGBM. Performance measurement was evaluated by area under the curve (AUC) by analyzing the receiver operating characteristic curve. The machine learning model was trained based on the selected features using four feature-selection methods. When the RFE feature selection method was used, the average AUC was higher than that of the other methods. Among them, the combination with the machine learning model SVM showed the best performance, with an average AUC of 0.75±0.06. By obtaining a feature-importance graph for the combination of RFE and SVM, it is possible to identify features with high importance. The AO/OTA classification of normal pelvic rings and pelvic fractures on pelvic AP radiographs using a radiomics-based machine learning model showed the highest AUC when using the SVM classification combination. Single image raindrop removal aims at recovering high-resolution images from degraded ones. However, existing methods primarily employ pixel-level supervision between image pairs to learn spatial features, thus ignoring the more discriminative frequency information. This drawback results in the loss of high-frequency structures and the generation of diverse artifacts in the restored image. To ameliorate this deficiency, we propose a novel frequency-oriented Hierarchical Fusion Network (HFNet) for raindrop image restoration. Specifically, to compensate for spatial representation deficiencies, we design a dynamic adaptive frequency loss (DAFL), which allows the model to adaptively handle the high-frequency components that are difficult to recover. To handle spatially diverse raindrops, we propose a hierarchical fusion network to efficiently learn both contextual information and spatial features. Meanwhile, a calibrated attention mechanism is proposed to facilitate the transfer of valuable information. Powerful, workflow-agnostic and interactive visualisation is essential for the ad hoc, human-in-the-loop workflows typical of cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). While several tools exist for visualisation and annotation of cryo-ET data, they are often integrated as part of monolithic processing pipelines, or focused on a specific task and offering limited reusability and extensibility. With each software suite presenting its own pros and cons and tools tailored to address specific challenges, seamless integration between available pipelines is often a difficult task. As part of the effort to enable such flexibility and move the software ecosystem towards a more collaborative and modular approach, we developed blik, an open-source napari plugin for visualisation and annotation of cryo-ET data (source code: https://github.com/brisvag/blik). blik offers fast, interactive, and user-friendly 3D visualisation thanks to napari, and is built with extensibility and modularity at the core. Data is handled and exposed through well-established scientific Python libraries such as numpy arrays and pandas dataframes. Reusable components (such as data structures, file read/write, and annotation tools) are developed as independent Python libraries to encourage reuse and community contribution. By easily integrating with established image analysis tools—even outside of the cryo-ET world—blik provides a versatile platform for interacting with cryo-ET data. On top of core visualisation features—interactive and simultaneous visualisation of tomograms, particle picks, and segmentations—blik provides an interface for interactive tools such as manual, surface-based and filament-based particle picking, and image segmentation, as well as simple filtering tools. Additional self-contained napari plugins developed as part of this work also implement interactive plotting and selection based on particle features, and label interpolation for easier segmentation. Finally, we highlight the differences with existing software and showcase blik's applicability in biological research. Unpaired image-to-image translation (I2IT) involves establishing an effective mapping between the source and target domains to enable cross-domain image transformation. Previous contrastive learning methods inadequately accounted for the variations in features between two domains and the interrelatedness of elements within the features. Consequently, this can result in challenges encompassing model instability and the blurring of image edge features. To this end, we propose a multi-attention bidirectional contrastive learning method for unpaired I2IT, referred to as MabCUT. We design separate embedding blocks for each domain based on depthwise separable convolutions and train them simultaneously from both the source and target domains. Then we utilize a pixel-level multi-attention extractor to query images from embedding blocks in order to select feature blocks with crucial information, thus preserving essential features from the source domain. To enhance the feature representation capability of the model, we incorporate depthwise separable convolutions for the generator. We conducted comprehensive evaluations using three datasets, demonstrating that our approach enhances the quality of unpaired I2IT while avoiding the issue of mode collapse-related image blurring. Deep Learning models such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are very effective at extracting complex image features from medical X-rays. However, the limited interpretability of CNNs has hampered their deployment in medical settings as they failed to gain trust among clinicians. In this work, we propose an interactive framework to allow clinicians to ask what-if questions and intervene in the decisions of a CNN, with the aim of increasing trust in the system. The framework translates a layer of a trained CNN into a measurable and compact set of symbolic rules. Expert interactions with visualizations of the rules promote the use of clinically-relevant CNN kernels and attach meaning to the rules. The definition and relevance of the kernels are supported by radiomics analyses and permutation evaluations, respectively. CNN kernels that do not have a clinically-meaningful interpretation are removed without affecting model performance. By allowing clinicians to evaluate the impact of adding or removing kernels from the rule set, our approach produces an interpretable refinement of the data-driven CNN in alignment with medical best practice. The objectives were to investigate whether cupping therapy improves muscle quality and the interaction between duration and negative pressure of cupping therapy affects muscle quality. A 2×2 factorial design with repeated measures was used to examine the efficacy of cupping therapy on improving muscle quality. The independent factors were cupping pressures at −225 and −300 mmHg and cupping durations at 5 and 10 min, and the dependent factor was texture of B-mode ultrasound image of the triceps. Four cupping protocols were applied to 12 participants at 4 different days. Texture analysis including contrast, correlation, energy, and homogeneity was applied to assess muscle quality from 480 ultrasound images. The two-way repeated measures ANOVA showed that there was an interaction between the pressure and duration factors on the superficial layer of the triceps in contrast (F = 5.434, P = 0.004) and correlation (F = 6.274, P = 0.029). In contrast texture, the superficial layer of the triceps showed a significant increase in three protocols: −225 mmHg for 5 min (1.0434 ± 0.130), −300 mmHg for 5 min (1.0339 ±0.1407), and −300 mmHg for 10 min (1.0563 ±0.1432) except −225 mmHg for 10 min (0.9704 ±0.0985). In correlation texture, the superficial layer of the triceps showed a significant decrease in all protocols: −225 mmHg for 5 min (0.9556 ± 0.07), −225 mmHg for 10 min (0.9831 ± 0.0708), −300 mmHg for 5 min (0.9976 ± 0.055), and −300 mmHg for 10 min (0.9406 ± 0.0809). The results indicate that the interaction between the pressure and duration factors of cupping therapy significantly increases contrast texture and significantly decreases correlation texture of the superficial layer of the triceps after cupping therapy. Alzheimer's disease is the most prevalent form of dementia, which is a gradual condition that begins with mild memory loss and progresses to difficulties communicating and responding to the environment. Recent advancements in neuroimaging techniques have resulted in large-scale multimodal neuroimaging data, leading to an increased interest in using deep learning for the early diagnosis and automated classification of Alzheimer's disease. This study uses machine learning (ML) methods to determine the severity level of Alzheimer's disease using MRI images, where the dataset consists of four levels of severity. A hybrid of 12 feature extraction methods is used to diagnose Alzheimer's disease severity, and six traditional machine learning methods are applied, including decision tree, K-nearest neighbor, linear discrimination analysis, Naïve Bayes, support vector machine, and ensemble learning methods. During training, optimization is performed to obtain the best solution for each classifier. Additionally, a CNN model is trained using a machine learning system algorithm to identify specific patterns. The accuracy of the Naïve Bayes, Support Vector Machines, K-nearest neighbor, Linear discrimination classifier, Decision tree, Ensembled learning, and presented CNN architecture are 67.5%, 72.3%, 74.5%, 65.6%, 62.4%, 73.8% and, 95.3%, respectively. Advancing human induced pluripotent stem cell derived cardiomyocyte (hiPSC-CM) technology will lead to significant progress ranging from disease modeling, to drug discovery, to regenerative tissue engineering. Yet, alongside these potential opportunities comes a critical challenge: attaining mature hiPSC-CM tissues. At present, there are multiple techniques to promote maturity of hiPSC-CMs including physical platforms and cell culture protocols. However, when it comes to making quantitative comparisons of functional behavior, there are limited options for reliably and reproducibly computing functional metrics that are suitable for direct cross-system comparison. In addition, the current standard functional metrics obtained from time-lapse images of cardiac microbundle contraction reported in the field (i.e., post forces, average tissue stress) do not take full advantage of the available information present in these data (i.e., full-field tissue displacements and strains). Thus, we present "MicroBundleCompute," a computational framework for automatic quantification of morphology-based mechanical metrics from movies of cardiac microbundles. Briefly, this computational framework offers tools for automatic tissue segmentation, tracking, and analysis of brightfield and phase contrast movies of beating cardiac microbundles. It is straightforward to implement, runs without user intervention, requires minimal input parameter setting selection, and is computationally inexpensive. In this paper, we describe the methods underlying this computational framework, show the results of our extensive validation studies, and demonstrate the utility of exploring heterogeneous tissue deformations and strains as functional metrics. With this manuscript, we disseminate "MicroBundleCompute" as an open-source computational tool with the aim of making automated quantitative analysis of beating cardiac microbundles more accessible to the community. Skin cancer is one of the most fatal skin lesions, capable of leading to fatality if not detected in its early stages. The characteristics of skin lesions are similar in many of the early stages of skin lesions. The AI in categorizing diverse types of skin lesions significantly contributes to and helps dermatologists to preserve patients' lives. This study introduces a novel approach that capitalizes on the strengths of hybrid systems of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models to extract intricate features from dermoscopy images with Random Forest (Rf) and Feed Forward Neural Networks (FFNN) networks, leading to the development of hybrid systems that have superior capabilities early detection of all types of skin lesions. By integrating multiple CNN features, the proposed methods aim to improve the robustness and discriminatory capabilities of the AI system. The dermoscopy images were optimized for the ISIC2019 dataset. Then, the area of the lesions was segmented and isolated from the rest of the image by a Gradient Vector Flow (GVF) algorithm. The first strategy for dermoscopy image analysis for early diagnosis of skin lesions is by the CNN-RF and CNN-FFNN hybrid models. CNN models (DenseNet121, MobileNet, and VGG19) receive a region of interest (skin lesions) and produce highly representative feature maps for each lesion. The second strategy to analyze the area of skin lesions and diagnose their type by means of CNN-RF and CNN-FFNN hybrid models based on the features of the combined CNN models. Hybrid models based on combined CNN features have achieved promising results for diagnosing dermoscopy images of the ISIC 2019 dataset and distinguishing skin cancers from other skin lesions. Underwater image enhancement has become the requirement for more people to have a better visual experience or to extract information. However, underwater images often suffer from the mixture of color distortion and blurred quality degradation due to the external environment (light attenuation, background noise and the type of water). To solve the above problem, we design a Divide-and-Conquer network (DC-net) for enhancing underwater image, which mainly consists of a texture network, a color network and a refinement network. Specifically, the multi-axis attention block is presented in the texture network, which combine different region/channel features into a single stream structure. And the color network employs an adaptive 3D look-up table method to obtain the color enhanced results. Meanwhile, the refinement network is presented to focus on image features of ground truth. Compared to state-of-the-art (SOTA) underwater image enhance methods, our proposed method can obtain the better visual quality of underwater images and better qualitative and quantitative performance. Underwater images are often scattered due to suspended particles in the water, resulting in light scattering and blocking and reduced visibility and contrast. Color shifts and distortions are also caused by the absorption of different wavelengths of light in the water. This series of problems will make the underwater image quality greatly impaired, resulting in some advanced visual work can not be carried out underwater. In order to solve these problems, this paper proposes an underwater image enhancement method based on multi-task fusion, called MTF. Specifically, we first use linear constraints on the input image to achieve color correction based on the gray world assumption. The corrected image is then used to achieve visibility enhancement using an improved type-II fuzzy set-based algorithm, while the image is contrast enhanced using standard normal distribution probability density function and softplus function. However, in order to obtain more qualitative results, we propose multi-task fusion, in which we solve for similarity, then we obtain fusion weights that guarantee the best features of the image as much as possible from the obtained similarity, and finally we fuse the image with the weights to obtain the output image, and we find that multi-task fusion has excellent image enhancement and restoration capabilities, and also produces visually pleasing results. Extensive qualitative and quantitative evaluations show that MTF method achieves optimal results compared to ten state-of-the-art underwater enhancement algorithms on 2 datasets. CO2 blasting has been identified as a potent method for enhancing the permeability of coal seams and improving gas drainage efficiency. This study is focused on elucidating the deformation and fracture mechanisms of coal and rock during CO2 blasting and on identifying the precursor characteristics of these processes. To this end, a CO2 blasting-induced coal rock fracture pressure model and a gas pressure distribution model were developed. The research utilized a self-developed CO2 blasting test platform along with a non-contact full-strain field measurement analysis system. Briquette samples were subjected to CO2 blasting tests under controlled experimental conditions, which included an axial pressure of 1.0 MPa and variable gas pressures of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 MPa. This methodology enabled the capture of the principal strain field on the surface of the samples. The Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) was employed to extract and analyze the grayscale and texture features of the strain cloud maps, facilitating a quantitative assessment of their evolution. The aim was to pinpoint the precursor characteristics associated with coal rock cracking and crack propagation. The results revealed that: (1) During the cracking and subsequent propagation of samples, the strain field's grayscale histogram underwent a transformation from a "broad and low" to a "narrow and high" configuration, with a consistent increase in peak frequency. Specifically, at 3 ms, a primary crack was observed in the sample, evidenced by a grayscale peak frequency of 0.0846. By 9 ms, as the crack propagated, the grayscale peak frequency escalated to 0.1626. (2) The texture feature parameters experienced their initial abrupt change at 3ms. Correlation with the gas pressure distribution model indicated that this was the crack initiation moment in the sample. (3) A secondary abrupt shift in the texture feature parameters occurred at 9ms, in conjunction with experimental phenomena, was identified as the crack propagation phase. Monitoring the grayscale and texture features of the principal strain field on the coal rock surface proved effective in recognizing the precursor characteristics of crack initiation and propagation. This research has the potential to reduce blasting costs in coal mines, optimize blasting effects, and provided theoretical guidance for enhancing gas extraction efficiency from deep and low permeability coal seams. Background: Antiangiogenic therapies for glioblastoma (GBM) such as bevacizumab (BVZ), have been unable to extend survival in large patient cohorts. However, a subset of patients having angiogenesis-dependent tumors might benefit from these therapies. Currently, there are no biomarkers allowing to discriminate responders from non-responders before the start of the therapy. Methods: 40 patients from the randomized GENOM009 study complied the inclusion criteria (quality of images, clinical data available). Of those, 23 patients received first line temozolomide (TMZ) for eight weeks and then concomitant radiotherapy and TMZ. 17 patients received BVZ+TMZ for seven weeks and then added radiotherapy to the treatment. Clinical variables were collected, tumors segmented and several geometrical measures computed including: Contrast enhancing (CE), necrotic, and total volumes; equivalent spherical CE width; several geometric measures of the CE ‘rim’ geometry and a set of image texture measures. The significance of the results was studied using Kaplan-Meier and Cox proportional hazards analysis. Correlations were assessed using Spearman correlation coefficients. Results: Kaplan-Meier and Cox proportional hazards analysis showed that total, CE and inner volume (p = 0.019, HR = 4.258) and geometric heterogeneity of the CE areas (p = 0.011, HR = 3.931) were significant parameters identifying response to BVZ. The group of patients with either regular CE areas (small geometric heterogeneity, median difference survival 15.88 months, p = 0.011) or those with small necrotic volume (median survival difference 14.50 months, p = 0.047) benefited substantially from BVZ. Conclusion: Imaging biomarkers related to the irregularity of contrast enhancing areas and the necrotic volume were able to discriminate GBM patients with a substantial survival benefit from BVZ. Background: Image texture analysis is a noninvasive technique for quantifying intratumoral heterogeneity, with derived texture features reported to be closely related to the treatment outcome of tumors. Gastric cancer is one of the most common tumors and the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Although trastuzumab is associated with a survival gain among patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive advanced gastric cancer, optimal patient selection is challenging. The purpose of this study was to determine whether CT texture features of HER2-positive gastric cancer were related to the survival rate after trastuzumab treatment. Methods and Findings: Patients diagnosed with HER2-positive advanced gastric cancer from February 2007 to August 2014 were retrospectively selected. Using in-house built software, histogram features (kurtosis and skewness) and gray-level co-occurrence matrices (GLCM) features (angular second moment [ASM], contrast, entropy, variance, and correlation) were derived from the CT images of HER2-positive advanced gastric cancer in 26 patients. All the patients were followed up for more than 6 months, with no confirmed deaths. The patients were dichotomized into a good and poor survival group based on cutoff points of overall survival of 12 months. A receiver-operating characteristics (ROC) analysis was performed to test the ability of each texture parameter to identify the good survival group. Kaplan–Meier curves for patients above and below each threshold were constructed. Using a threshold of >265.8480 for contrast, >488.3150 for variance, and ≤0.1319×10−3. for correlation, all of the area under the ROC curves showed fair accuracy (>0.7). Kaplan–Meier analysis showed statistically significant survival difference between two groups according to optimal cutoff values of contrast, variance, correlation and ASM. However, as this study had a small number of patients, a further study with a larger population will be needed to validate the results. Conclusions: Heterogeneous texture features on CT images were associated with better survival in patients with HER2-positive advanced gastric cancer who received trastuzumab-based treatment. The human heart has a heterogeneous structure, which is characterized by different cell types and their spatial configurations. The physical structure, especially the fibre orientation and the interstitial fibrosis, determines the electrical excitation and in further consequence the contractility in macroscopic as well as in microscopic areas. Modern image processing methods and parameters could be used to describe the image content and image texture. In most cases the description of the texture is not satisfying because the fibre orientation, detected with common algorithms, is biased by elements such as fibrocytes or endothelial nuclei. The goal of this work is to figure out if cardiac tissue can be analysed and classified on a microscopic level by automated image processing methods with a focus on an accurate detection of the fibre orientation. Quantitative parameters for identification of textures of different complexity or pathological attributes inside the heart were determined. The focus was set on the detection of the fibre orientation, which was calculated on the basis of the cardiomyocytes’ nuclei. It turned out that the orientation of these nuclei corresponded with a high precision to the fibre orientation in the image plane. Texture enhancement is one of the most important techniques in digital image processing and plays an essential role in medical imaging since textures discriminate information. Most image texture enhancement techniques use classical integral order differential mask operators or fractional differential mask operators using fixed fractional order. These masks can produce excessive enhancement of low spatial frequency content, insufficient enhancement of large spatial frequency content, and retention of high spatial frequency noise. To improve upon existing approaches of texture enhancement, we derive an improved Variable Order Fractional Centered Difference (VOFCD) scheme which dynamically adjusts the fractional differential order instead of fixing it. The new VOFCD technique is based on the second order Riesz fractional differential operator using a Lagrange 3-point interpolation formula, for both grey scale and colour image enhancement. We then use this method to enhance photographs and a set of medical images related to patients with stroke and Parkinson’s disease. The experiments show that our improved fractional differential mask has a higher signal to noise ratio value than the other fractional differential mask operators. Proflavine hemisulfate, an acridine-derived fluorescent dye, can be used as a rapid stain for cytologic examination of biological specimens. Proflavine fluorescently stains cell nuclei and cytoplasmic structures, owing to its small amphipathic structure and ability to intercalate DNA. In this manuscript, we demonstrated the use of proflavine as a rapid cytologic dye on a number of specimens, including normal exfoliated oral squamous cells, cultured human oral squamous carcinoma cells, and leukocytes derived from whole blood specimens using a custom-built, portable, LED-illuminated fluorescence microscope. No incubation time was needed after suspending cells in 0.01% (w/v) proflavine diluted in saline. Images of proflavine stained oral cells had clearly visible nuclei as well as granular cytoplasm, while stained leukocytes exhibited bright nuclei, and highlighted the multilobar nature of nuclei in neutrophils. We also demonstrated the utility of quantitative analysis of digital images of proflavine stained cells, which can be used to detect significant morphological differences between different cell types. Proflavine stained oral cells have well-defined nuclei and cell membranes which allowed for quantitative analysis of nuclear to cytoplasmic ratios, as well as image texture analysis to extract quantitative image features. Over the past few decades, skin cancer has emerged as a major global health concern. The efficacy of skin cancer treatment greatly depends upon early diagnosis and effective treatment. The automated classification of Melanoma and Nonmelanoma is quite challenging task due to presence of high visual similarities across different classes and variabilities within each class. According to the best of our knowledge, this study represents the classification of Melanoma and Nonmelanoma utilising Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) and Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) under the Nonmelanoma class for the first time. Therefore, this research focuses on automated detection of different skin cancer types to provide assistance to the dermatologists in timely diagnosis and treatment of Melanoma and Nonmelanoma patients. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) methods have gained popularity where Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are employed to accurately classify various skin diseases. However, CNN has limitation in its ability to capture global contextual information which may lead to missing important information. In order to address this issue, this research explores the outlook attention mechanism inspired by vision outlooker, which improves important features while suppressing noisy features. The proposed SkinViT architecture integrates an outlooker block, transformer block and MLP head block to efficiently capture both fine level and global features in order to enhance the accuracy of Melanoma and Nonmelanoma classification. The proposed SkinViT method is assessed by different performance metrics such as recall, precision, classification accuracy, and F1 score. We performed extensive experiments on three datasets, Dataset1 which is extracted from ISIC2019, Dataset2 collected from various online dermatological database and Dataset3 combines both datasets. The proposed SkinViT achieved 0.9109 accuracy on Dataset1, 0.8911 accuracy on Dataset3 and 0.8611 accuracy on Dataset2. Moreover, the proposed SkinViT method outperformed other SOTA models and displayed higher accuracy compared to the previous work in the literature. The proposed method demonstrated higher performance efficiency in classification of Melanoma and Nonmelanoma dermoscopic images. This work is expected to inspire further research in implementing a system for detecting skin cancer that can assist dermatologists in timely diagnosing Melanoma and Nonmelanoma patients. In the pandemic of COVID-19 patients approach to the hospital for prescription, yet due to extreme line up the patient gets treatment after waiting for more than one hour. Generally, wearable devices directly measure the preliminary data of the patient stored in capturing mode. In order to store the data, the hospitals require large storage devices that make the progression of data more complex. To bridge this gap, a potent scheme is established for COVID-19 prediction based fog-cloud named Caviar Squirrel Jellyfish Search Optimization (CSJSO). Here, CSJSO is the amalgamation of CAViar Squirrel Search Algorithm (CSSA) and Jellyfish Search Optimization (JSO), where CSSA is blended by the Conditional Autoregressive Value-at-Risk (CAViar) and Squirrel Search Algorithm (SSA). This architecture comprises the healthcare IoT sensor layer, fog layer and cloud layer. In the healthcare IoT sensor layer, the routing process with the collection of patient health condition data is carried out. On the other hand, in the fog layer COVID-19 detection is performed by employing a Deep Neuro Fuzzy Network (DNFN) trained by the proposed Remora Namib Beetle JSO (RNBJSO). Here, RNBJSO is the combination of Namib Beetle Optimization (NBO), Remora Optimization Algorithm (ROA) and Jellyfish Search optimization (JSO). Finally, in the cloud layer, the detection of COVID-19 employing Deep Long Short Term Memory (Deep LSTM) trained utilizing proposed CSJSO is performed. The evaluation measures utilized for CSJSO_Deep LSTM in database-1, such as Mean Squared Error (MSE) and Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) observed 0.062 and 0.252 in confirmed cases. Brain cancers pose a novel set of difficulties due to the limited accessibility of human brain tumor tissue. For this reason, clinical decision-making relies heavily on MR imaging interpretation, yet the mapping between MRI features and underlying biology remains ambiguous. Standard (clinical) tissue sampling fails to capture the full heterogeneity of the disease. Biopsies are required to obtain a pathological diagnosis and are predominantly taken from the tumor core, which often has different traits to the surrounding invasive tumor that typically leads to recurrent disease. One approach to solving this issue is to characterize the spatial heterogeneity of molecular, genetic, and cellular features of glioma through the intraoperative collection of multiple image-localized biopsy samples paired with multi-parametric MRIs. We have adopted this approach and are currently actively enrolling patients for our 'Image-Based Mapping of Brain Tumors' study. Patients are eligible for this research study (IRB #16–002424) if they are 18 years or older and undergoing surgical intervention for a brain lesion. Once identified, candidate patients receive dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) perfusion MRI and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), in addition to standard sequences (T1, T1Gd, T2, T2-FLAIR) at their presurgical scan. During surgery, sample anatomical locations are tracked using neuronavigation. The collected specimens from this research study are used to capture the intra-tumoral heterogeneity across brain tumors including quantification of genetic aberrations through whole-exome and RNA sequencing as well as other tissue analysis techniques. To date, these data (made available through a public portal) have been used to generate, test, and validate predictive regional maps of the spatial distribution of tumor cell density and/or treatment-related key genetic marker status to identify biopsy and/or treatment targets based on insight from the entire tumor makeup. This type of methodology, when delivered within clinically feasible time frames, has the potential to further inform medical decision-making by improving surgical intervention, radiation, and targeted drug therapy for patients with glioma. Image spam is a type of spam that contains text information inserted in an image file. Traditional classification systems based on feature engineering require manual extraction of certain quantitative and qualitative image features for classification. However, these systems are often not robust to adversarial attacks. In contrast, classification pipelines that use convolutional neural network (CNN) models automatically extract features from images. This approach has been shown to achieve high accuracies even on challenge datasets that are designed to defeat the purpose of classification. We propose a method for improving the performance of CNN models for image spam classification. Our method uses the concept of error level analysis (ELA) as a pre-processing step. ELA is a technique for detecting image tampering by analyzing the error levels of the image pixels. We show that ELA can be used to improve the accuracy of CNN models for image spam classification, even on challenge datasets. Our results demonstrate that the application of ELA as a pre-processing technique in our proposed model can significantly improve the results of the classification tasks on image spam datasets. Texas Rio Grande Valley Red–crowned Parrots (Psittaciformes: Amazona viridigenalis [Cassin, 1853]) primarily occupy vegetated urban rather than natural areas. We investigated the utility of raw vegetation indices and their derivatives as well as elevation in modelling the Red–crowned parrot's general use, nest site, and roost site habitat distributions. A feature selection algorithm was employed to create and select an ensemble of fine–scale, top–ranked MaxEnt models from optimally–sized, decorrelated subsets of four to seven of 199 potential variables. Variables were ranked post hoc by frequency of appearance and mean permutation importance in top–ranked models. Our ensemble models accurately predicted the three distributions of interest (x¯ Area Under the Curve [AUC] = 0.904–0.969). Top–ranked variables for different habitat distribution models included: (a) general use–percent cover of preferred ranges of entropy texture of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) values, entropy and contrast textures of NDVI, and elevation; (b) nest site–entropy textures of NDVI and Green–Blue NDVI, and percent cover of preferred range of entropy texture of NDVI values; (c) roost site–percent cover of preferred ranges of entropy texture of NDVI values, contrast texture of NDVI, and entropy texture of Green–Red Normalized Difference Index. Texas Rio Grande Valley Red–crowned Parrot presence was associated with urban areas with high heterogeneity and randomness in the distribution of vegetation and/or its characteristics (e.g., arrangement, type, structure). Lichen mapping is vital for caribou management plans and sustainable land conservation. Previous studies have used random forest, dense neural network, and convolutional neural network models for mapping lichen coverage. However, to date, it is not clear how these models rank in this task. In this study, these machine learning models were evaluated on their ability to predict lichen percent coverage in Sentinel-2 imagery in Québec and Labrador, Canada. The models were trained on 10-m resolution lichen coverage (%) maps created from 20 drone surveys collected in July 2019 and 2022. The dense neural network achieved a higher accuracy than the other two, with a reported mean absolute error of 5.2% and an R2 of 0.76. By comparison, the random forest model returned a mean absolute error of 5.5% (R2: 0.74) and the convolutional neural network had a mean absolute error of 5.3% (R2: 0.74). A regional lichen map was created using the trained dense neural network and a Sentinel-2 imagery mosaic. There was greater uncertainty on land covers that the model was not exposed to in training, such as mines and deep lakes. While the dense neural network requires more computational effort to train than a random forest model, the 5.9% performance gain in the test pixel comparison renders it the most suitable for lichen mapping. This study represents progress toward determining the appropriate methodology for generating accurate lichen maps from satellite imagery for caribou conservation and sustainable land management. The reciprocal relationships between ecological process and landscape pattern are fundamental to landscape ecology. Landscape ecologists traditionally use raster maps portraying classified features such as land use or land cover categories, and metrics suggested by the patch-corridor-matrix conceptual model of pattern. Less attention has been given to the landscape gradient conceptual model and raster maps portraying numeric features such as greenness or percent vegetation cover. We introduce the open-source tool GraySpatCon to calculate and map a variety of landscape pattern metrics from both conceptual models using either categorical or numeric maps. The 51 metrics, drawn mostly from the landscape ecology and image processing literatures, are calculated from the frequencies of input pixel values and/or the pixel value adjacencies in an analysis region. GraySpatCon conducts either a moving window analysis which produces a continuous map of a pattern metric, or a global analysis which produces a single metric value. We describe an implementation in the GuidosToolbox desktop application which allows novice users to interactively explore GraySpatCon functionality. In the R desktop environment, we demonstrate several metrics using an example map of percent tree cover and illustrate a multi-scale moving window analysis to identify scale domains. Semantic segmentation process over Remote Sensing images has been regarded as hot research work. Even though the Remote Sensing images provide many essential features, the sampled images are inconsistent in size. Even if a similar network can segment Remote Sensing images to some extents, segmentation accuracy needs to be improved. General neural networks are used to improve categorization accuracy, but they also caused significant losses to target scale and spatial features, and the traditional common features fusion techniques can only resolve some of the issues. A segmentation network has been designed to resolve the above-mentioned issues as well. With the motive of addressing the difficulties in the existing semantic segmentation techniques for aerial images, the adoption of deep learning techniques is utilized. This model has adopted a new Adaptive Multichannel Deeplabv3+ (AMC-Deeplabv3+) with the help of a new meta-heuristic algorithm called Improved Beluga whale optimization (IBWO). Here, the hyperparameters of Multichannel deeplabv3+ are optimized by the IBWO algorithm. The proposed model significantly enhances the performance of the overall system by measuring the accuracy and dice coefficient. The proposed model attains improved accuracies of 98.65% & 98.72% for dataset 1 and 2 respectively and also achieves the dice coefficient of 98.73% & 98.85% respectively with a computation time of 113.0123 seconds. 3D printing technology is gradually considered to be a rapid development of a green revolution in the field of architecture. Recently, utilizing solid mine waste to replace natural sand not only greatly reduces the 3D printing costs, but also contributes to an environmental sustainability development. However, most solid waste inevitably has an impact on the inherent mechanical strength and printability of concrete materials. It is an urgent requirement to expand the alternative materials and improve the overall property of 3D concrete materials. This paper reported an innovative concrete material that replaced natural sand with fine limestone powders for 3D concrete printing applications. The experimental measurements were performed including microstructures characteristics, flowability, buildability, shrinkability, layer-interface properties, mechanical properties and interlayer bonding strength. Besides, an effective method was proposed to characterize the printable properties of concrete materials and then the reasonable limestone powder replacement ratio was determined. Based on the investigation results, appropriate substituting limestone powder (40%) can effectively improve the grading of the concrete, thus promoting its printability and buildability. Moreover, the microstructures of the 3D printing concrete materials after curing were denser and their mechanical property improved by approximately 45%. With the further increase of replacement ratio, the reduction in the flowability led to a decrease of the printability. A large number of fine particles increased the shrinkage of the curing process and some bubbles were stranded inside the materials due to its increase in the viscosity, thereby reducing the mechanical properties of the hardened material. The produced concrete for 3D printing can be treated as an eco-friendly building material that contributes to the rational development and resource utilization of solid water, thus promoting the sustainable development of construction field. In this paper, we present an interactive advertising system based on augmented reality(AR) called ARIAS, which is manipulated with gestures for displaying advertising videos. Two-dimensional markers are defined in the system. The system captures the frame data through the camera in real time, uses OpenCV library to identify the predefined markers, and calculates the pose of markers captured by the camera. With OpenGL library, a virtual cubic model is created at the position of the marker, and thus videos or images are displayed on the six faces of the cube. The virtual cube, together with the original frame data collected by the camera, is displayed in the interactive window to achieve the augmented reality effect. Customers are accessible to various advertising content by observing the marker from different positions. The system, meanwhile, supports gesture operation in order to make the customers pay attention to the content they are interested in with one hand. The MediaPipe Hand framework is used to extract the landmarks of hands, based on which, a series of gestures are designed for interactive operation. The efficiency and accuracy of the system are tested and analyzed with the result, indicating that the system has high reliability and good interactiveness. Background: Dose adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) should be offered in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients? Different guidelines provided the different recommendations. Methods: In this retrospective study, a total of 140 patients were enrolled and followed for 3 years, with 24 clinical features being collected. The imaging features on the enhanced-MRI sequence were extracted by using PyRadiomics platform. The pearson correlation coefficient and the random forest was used to filter the features associated with recurrence or metastasis. A clinical-radiomics model (CRM) was constructed by the Cox multivariable analysis in training cohort, and was validated in validation cohort. All patients were divided into high- and low-risk groups through the median Rad-score of the model. The Kaplan-Meier survival curves were used to compare the 3-year recurrence or metastasis free rate (RMFR) of patients with or without AC in high- and low-groups. Results: In total, 960 imaging features were extracted. A CRM was constructed from nine features (seven imaging features and two clinical factors). In the training cohort, the area under curve (AUC) of CRM for 3-year RMFR was 0.872 (P <0.001), and the sensitivity and specificity were 0.935 and 0.672, respectively; In the validation cohort, the AUC was 0.864 (P <0.001), and the sensitivity and specificity were 1.00 and 0.75, respectively. Kaplan-Meier curve showed that the 3-year RMFR and 3-year cancer specific survival (CSS) rate in the high-risk group were significantly lower than those in the low-risk group (P <0.001). In the high-risk group, patients who received AC had greater 3-year RMFR than those who did not receive AC (78.6% vs. 48.1%) (p = 0.03). Conclusion: Considering increasing RMFR, a prediction model for NPC based on two clinical factors and seven imaging features suggested the AC needs to be added to patients in the high-risk group and not in the low-risk group. Globally, traditional knowledge systems are a powerhouse of information which can revolutionise the world, if decoded accurately and logically. Plant-based ethno-traditional and folklore curatives/medicines has a firm basis in the psyche of the common masses of West Bengal and Holarrhena pubescens is a representative example of it. This article communication on depicting the anthelmintic efficacy of ethanolic extract and Ethyl acetate fraction of the stem bark of Holarrhena pubescens against the cestode Raillietina spp. through efficacy studies, ultra-structural observations, histochemical and biochemical analysis on some tegumental enzymes i.e., Acid Phosphatase (AcPase), Alkaline Phosphatase (AlkPase), Adenosine Triphosphatase (ATPase) and 5ˈ-Nucleotidase (5ˈ-Nu) along with Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) analysis of histochemical study. Praziquantel was used as the reference drug. Investigations revealed 10mg/ml dosage of crude extract was the most efficacious dose and amongst the fractions the ethyl acetate fraction showed the most anthelmintic property. Ultrastructural studies through Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) clearly depicted the damage in head, sucker, proglottids, proximal and distal cytoplasm (DC), microtriches (MT), basal lamina (BL), nuclear membrane (NM), and, nucleolus (NL) in the treated worms. Histochemical studies revealed decrease in staining intensity for all the tegumental enzymes in the treated worms compared to control. The GLCM analysis strongly supported the result of histochemical studies. Monitoring palm tree seedlings and plantlings presents a formidable challenge because of the microscopic size of these organisms and the absence of distinguishing morphological characteristics. There is a demand for technical approaches that can provide restoration specialists with palm tree seedling monitoring systems that are high-resolution, quick, and environmentally friendly. It is possible that counting plantlings and identifying them down to the genus level will be an extremely time-consuming and challenging task. It has been demonstrated that convolutional neural networks, or CNNs, are effective in many aspects of image recognition; however, the performance of CNNs differs depending on the application. The performance of the existing CNN-based models for monitoring and predicting plantlings growth could be further improved. To achieve this, a novel Gap Layer modified CNN architecture (GL-CNN) has been proposed with an IoT effective monitoring system and UAV technology. The UAV is employed for capturing plantlings images and the IoT model is utilized for obtaining the ground truth information of the plantlings health. The proposed model is trained to predict the successful and poor seedling growth for a given set of palm tree plantling images. The proposed GL-CNN architecture is novel in terms of defined convolution layers and the gap layer designed for output classification. There are two 64×3 conv layers, two 128×3 conv layers, two 256×3 conv layers and one 512×3 conv layer for processing of input image. The output obtained from the gap layer is modulated using the ReLU classifier for determining the seedling classification. To evaluate the proposed system, a new dataset of palm tree plantlings was collected in real time using UAV technology. This dataset consists of images of palm tree plantlings. Image fusion technology is employed to integrate images collected by utilizing different types of sensors into the same image to generate high-definition images and extract more comprehensive information. However, all available techniques derive the features of the images by utilizing each sensor separately, resulting in poorly correlated image features when different types of sensors are utilized during the fusion process. The fusion strategy to make up for the differences between features alone is an important reason for the poor clarity of fusion results. Therefore, this paper proposes a fusion method via information clustering and image features (ICIF). First, the weighted median filter algorithm is adopted in the spatial domain to realize the clustering of images, which uses the texture features of an infrared image as the weight to influence the clustering results of the visible light image. Then, the image is decomposed into the base layer, bright detail layer, and dark detail layer, which improves the correlations between the layers after conducting the decomposition of a source graph. Finally, the characteristics of the images collected by utilizing sensors and feature information between the image layers are used as the weight reference of the fusion strategy. Hence, the fusion images are reconstructed according to the principle of extended texture details. Experiments on public datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed strategy over state-of-the-art methods. The proposed ICIF highlighted targets and abundant details as well. Aim: The trabecular bone score (TBS) is a tool for assessing bone quality and health. Current TBS algorithm corrects for body mass index (BMI), as a proxy of regional tissue thickness. However, this approach fails to consider BMI inaccuracies due to individual differences in body stature, composition and somatotype. This study investigated the relationship between TBS and body size and composition in subjects with a normal BMI, but with large morphological diversity in body fatness and height. Methods: Young male subjects (n = 97; age 17.2±1.0 years), including ski jumpers (n = 25), volleyball players (n = 48) and non-athletes (controls n = 39), were recruited. The TBS was determined from L1-L4 dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans using TBSiNsight software. Results: TBS correlated negatively with height and tissue thickness in the L1-L4 area in ski jumpers (r = -0.516 and r = -0.529), volleyball players (r = -0.525 and r = -0.436), and the total group (r = -0.559 and r = -0.463), respectively. Multiple regression analyses revealed that height, L1-L4 soft tissue thickness, fat mass and muscle mass were significant determinants of TBS (R2 = 0.587, p<0.001). L1-L4 soft tissue thickness explained 27% and height 14% of the TBS variance. Conclusion: The negative association of TBS and both features suggests that a very low L1-L4 tissue thickness may lead to overestimation of the TBS, while tall stature may have the opposite effect. It seems that the utility of the TBS as a skeletal assessment tool in lean and/or tall young male subjects could be improved if tissues thickness in the lumbar spine area and stature instead of BMI were considered in the algorithm. Objective: This work was aimed to analyze the effect of vitamin energy drink on muscle fatigue by surface electromyography (SEMG) and ultrasonic bioimaging (USBI). Methods: 20 healthy men were selected to do increasing load fatigue test. Surface electromyographic signals and ultrasonic biological images were collected based on wavelet threshold function with improved thresholds. Time domain and frequency domain characteristic integrated electromyography (IEMG), root mean square amplitude (RMS), average power frequency (MPF), and surface and deep muscle morphological changes were analyzed. Hemoglobin concentration (HB), red blood cell number (RBC), mean volume of red blood cell (MCV), blood lactic acid (BLA), malondialdehyde (MDA), and phosphocreatine kinase (CK) were measured. Results: 1) the Accuracy (94.10%), Sensitivity (94.43%), Specificity (93.75%), and Precision (94.07%) of the long and short-term memory (LSTM) specificity for muscle fatigue recognition were higher than those of other models. 2) Compared with the control group, the levels of BLA, MDA, and CK in the experimental group were decreased and HB levels were increased after exercise (P < 0.05). 3) IEMG and RMS of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group, and increased with time (P < 0.05). 4) The mean amplitude of the response signal decreased with time. Compared with the control group, the surface muscle thickness, deep muscle thickness, total muscle thickness, contrast, and homogeneity (HOM) decreased in the experimental group; while the angular second moment (ASM) and contrast increased, showing great differences (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Surface electromyographic signal and ultrasonic biological image can be used as auxiliary monitoring techniques for muscle fatigue during exercise.
