Formulations designed to address ocular conditions and diseases are predominantly administered topically. While in vitro test systems have been developed to assess corneal permeation under extended contact conditions, methods focusing on determining the penetration depth and kinetics of a substance within the cornea itself rather than through it, are scarce. This study introduces a method for time-dependent penetration depth analysis (10 and 60 min) by means of a semiquantitative imaging method in comparison with a quantitative corneal depth-cut technique, employing fluorescein sodium at concentrations of 0.2 and 0.4 mg/mL as a small molecule model substance and sheep cornea as a human surrogate. Excised tissues exhibited sustained viability in modified artificial aqueous humor and maintained thickness (746 ± 43 µm) and integrity (electrical resistance 488 ± 218 Ω∙cm2) under the experimental conditions. Both methods effectively demonstrated the expected concentration- and time-dependent depth of penetration of fluorescein sodium, displaying a significantly strong correlation. The traceability of the kinetic processes was validated with polysorbate 80, which acted as a penetration enhancer. Furthermore, the imaging-based method enabled detecting the retention of larger structures, such as hyaluronic acid and nanoemulsions from the commercial eyedrop formulation NEOVIS® TOTAL multi, inside the lacrimal layer. Hydrocarbon traps in the air intake system (AIS) are a common method for controlling evaporative emissions from the air intake path. Several different systems are available, but there is no standard method for determining their efficiencies. Therefore, a component test rig for hydrocarbon traps was developed. Some optimizations were necessary to achieve emission characteristics observed in engine measurements. Using this setup, several measurements were performed on four different hydrocarbon traps. The results were in reasonable agreement with those from engine measurements. Two different hydrocarbon (HC) traps were selected for further studies. In these studies, the repeatability and the dependency of the emission mass level were investigated. Furthermore, the hydrocarbon concentration in the air filter box was determined using point source flame ionization detector (FID) sampling and a metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) sensor. For the research on real-time accurate testing technology for the explosion point spatial coordinate of munitions, its currently commonly used methods such as acoustic–electric detection or high-speed imaging are limited by the field conditions, response rate, cost, and other factors. In this paper, a method of spatial coordinate testing for the explosion point based on a 2D PSD (position-sensitive detector) intersection is proposed, which has the advantages of a faster response, better real-time performance, and a lower cost. Firstly, a mathematical model of the spatial coordinate testing system was constructed, and an error propagation model for structural parameters was developed. The influence of the position of the optical axes' intersection as well as the azimuth angle and pitch angle on the test accuracy of the system was simulated and analyzed, thus obtaining the distribution and variation trend of the overall error propagation coefficient of the system. Finally, experiments were designed to obtain the test error of the system for validation. The results show that the system test accuracy is high when the azimuth angle is 20°–50°, the overall error propagation coefficient does not exceed 48.80, and the average test error is 56.17 mm. When the pitch angle is −2.5°–2.5°, the system has a higher test accuracy, with the overall error propagation coefficient not exceeding 44.82, and the average test error is 41.87 mm. The test accuracy of the system is higher when the position of the optical axes' intersection is chosen to make sure that explosion points fall in the region of the negative half-axis of the Z w -axis of the world coordinate system, with an overall error propagation coefficient of less than 44.78 and an average test error of 73.38 mm. It is shown that a reasonable selection of system structure parameters can significantly improve the system test accuracy and optimize the system deployment mode under the long-distance field conditions so as to improve the deployment efficiency. This paper presents a new algorithm to solve the optimal reconfiguration problem in distribution networks, using the algorithm called Improved Simulated Annealing combined with Hybrid Cooling (ISA-HC) and Selective Space Search, which leverages the capabilities of the Open Distribution System Simulator (OpenDSS) software and the selective space search concept to enhance performance and reduce the search space. The ISA-HC algorithm determines an adequate starting point for the temperature and initial solution according to the size of the system. For adequate cooling, a three-stage cooling approach was employed to achieve effective cooling, combining two methods widely used in the literature. Overall, the ISA-HC algorithm is a promising method for solving the optimal reconfiguration problem in distribution networks. The algorithm was tested on the systems of 5, 33, 69, and 94 buses and compared to other existing methods in the literature. Inertia is the measure of a power system's ability to resist power interference. The accurate estimation and prediction of inertia are crucial for the safe operation of the power system. To obtain the accurate power system inertia provided by generators, this paper proposes an estimation method considering the influence of frequency and voltage characteristics on the power deficit during transients. Specifically, the traditional swing equations-based inertia estimation model is improved by embedding linearized frequency and voltage factors. On this basis, the snake optimization algorithm is utilized to identify the power system inertia constant due to its strong global search ability and fast convergence speed. Power systems are naturally prone to numerous uncertainties. Power system functioning is inherently unpredictable, which makes the networks susceptible to instability. Rotor-angle instability is a critical problem that, if not effectively resolved, may result in a series of failures and perhaps cause blackouts (collapse). The issue of state feedback sliding mode control (SMC) for the excitation system is addressed in this work. Control is decentralized by splitting the global system into several subsystems. The effect of the rest of the system on a particular subsystem is considered a disturbance. The next step is to build the state feedback controller with the disturbance attenuation level in mind to guarantee the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system. The algorithm for SMC design is introduced. It is predicated on choosing the sliding surface correctly using the invariant ellipsoid approach. According to the control architecture, the system motion in the sliding mode is guaranteed to only be minorly affected by mismatched disturbances in power systems. Furthermore, the proposed controllers are expressed in terms of Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) using the Lyapunov theory. In view of the lack of soil bins for studying the surface interaction between aircraft wheels and soil, this study designed an indoor test bench for aircraft wheels and soil, including a soil container, loading vehicle, and intelligent measurement and control system, to test key parameters such as tire speed and wheel frictional resistance. The test system is capable of achieving speed regulation ranging from 0 to 30 km/h. The vertical load adjustment range with an adjustment interval of 10 kg spans from 90 to 140 kg. The soil type, compaction degree, and other conditions can be modified as per requirements to vary multiple test conditions, thereby enabling us to explore their influence on the driving resistance of the wheels. Moreover, the test data can be collected and processed in real time. A performance test of a wheel–soil table was carried out. The results show that the wheel–soil table test system is stable and reliable and can determine the relationship between the tire and soil, and the structural design of the test system meets the use requirements. In addition, it achieves the target test speed, data acquisition frequency, and stability. In terms of functionality and operational difficulty, the data acquisition of the entire test process is automated, and the test system achieves better informationization than previous methods. Paraloid B-72 (B72), as a transparent, colorless polymer material, has good film-forming ability when dissolved in acetone and is widely used as a sealing material for metal artifacts. In order to analyze and evaluate the preservation performance of B72 as a sealing material on the substrate of metal artifacts, a variety of electrochemical methods, mainly electrochemical noise (EN), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were applied to evaluate the B72 coating. The results showed that the B72 coating had a good preservation effect at the initial stage, and its poor water resistance led to the loss of its effectiveness after a few days of immersion. Compared with conventional electrochemical methods, electrochemical noise is non-destructive, which cannot cause new corrosion on the metal substrate and can well characterize the corrosion rate of the test system, and the results of its time domain and frequency domain analyses can correspond well with the polarization resistance and impedance spectra. In addressing the high costs, inefficiencies, and limitations of purely digital simulations in maritime trials for unmanned vessel path planning, this paper introduces a ship virtual path planning simulation test system. This system, unbound by temporal and spatial constraints, vividly showcases the navigational performance of vessels. After analyzing the virtual testing requirements for the autonomous navigation performance of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), we established the overall framework of this system. Data-driven by a numerical simulation platform, the system achieves synchronized operation between physical and virtual platforms and supports interactive path planning simulations between USVs and the virtual testing system. Furthermore, to address the limitations of traditional ship trajectory planning evaluation, this paper develops a global path planning fitness evaluation function that comprehensively considers trajectory safety, navigation distance, and vessel stability, achieving optimal comprehensive routes through the particle swarm optimization algorithm. Test results indicate an average roll reduction of 14.31% in the planned routes, with a slight increase in navigation distance. By integrating two-dimensional curve simulation with three-dimensional visualization, this paper not only overcomes the limitations of purely physical and purely virtual simulations but also enhances the overall credibility and intuitiveness of the simulation. The popular method of micro-respirometry (μR) for measuring total viable (aerobic) count (TVC) utilises luminescence-based O2 sensors that are difficult to fabricate and therefore expensive. A simple method is described for making inexpensive, ink-based potential substitutes that utilise the same O2-sensitive dyes. The sensitivity of such inks is readily increased by using dyes with a long lifetime in the absence of O2, τo, and/or an ink resin/polymer with a high O2 permeability, Pm(O2). Response modelling of the μR-based TVC system and subsequent testing using a range of O2 sensors of different sensitivity show that there is little to be gained by making the O2 sensor either very sensitive or insensitive, and that the best O2 sensors are dyes such as Pt(II) tetraphenyltetrabenzoporphyrin (PtBP), with τo = ca. 40–50 μs. Further work shows that a simple-to-make PtBP ink can be used as a direct replacement for the expensive O2 sensor used in commercial instruments for measuring TVC based on μR. In addition, the PtBP can be replaced by an even less expensive O2-sensitive dye, Pt(II) meso-tetra(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin (PtTFPP). Water has the disadvantages of low viscosity, poor lubrication, and easy leakage, which leads to many problems in water hydraulic flow control valves, such as low working pressure and large flow fluctuations. To address these issues, this paper proposes a novel digital flow control valve. The valve uses a linear stepper motor as the driving device. Compared to proportional electromagnets, the thrust and stroke of the linear stepper motor are larger, making the valve more suitable for high-pressure working conditions. Simultaneously, the valve innovatively incorporates a set of pilot valve spool strings at the front end of the pilot valve damping hole. Through controlling the two pilot valves to regulate the pressure difference before and after the damping hole, the flow passing through the pilot valve is maintained stable, thereby making the pressure of the upper chamber of the master valve spool more stable. In comparison to a single pilot valve structure, this design ensures a more stable main valve core position and reduces flow fluctuation. A mathematical and simulation model of the valve has been established, confirming the performance advantages of the new structure. The impact of structural parameters (such as valve core diameter, spring stiffness, and diameter of damping hole) on the stability of flow regulation has been investigated. A genetic algorithm has been employed to optimize the key parameters that influence valve flow stability, resulting in the identification of optimal parameters. The simulation results indicate that the optimized parameters lead to a reduction of approximately 45% in the maximum overshoot oscillation amplitude of the valve flow regulation. A prototype of the new flow control valve was developed, and a test system was established for conducting tests. This paper aims to investigate the effects of soil penetration resistance, tillage depth, and operating speeds on the deformation and fatigue of the subsoiling shovel based on the real-time measurement of tractor-operating conditions data. Various types of sensors, such as force, displacement, and angle, were integrated. The software and hardware architectures of the monitoring system were designed to develop a field operation condition parameter monitoring system, which can measure the tractor's traction force of the lower tie-bar, the real-time speed, the latitude and longitude, tillage depth, and the strain of the subsoiling shovel and other condition parameters in real-time. The time domain extrapolation method was used to process the measured data to obtain the load spectrum. The linear damage accumulation theory was used to calculate the load damage of the subsoiling shovel. The magnitude of the damage value was used to characterize the severity of the operation. The signal acquisition test and typical parameter test were conducted for the monitoring system, and the test results showed that the reliability and accuracy of the monitoring system met the requirements. The subsoiling operation test of the system was carried out, which mainly included two kinds of soil penetration resistances (1750 kPa and 2750 kPa), three kinds of tillage depth (250 mm, 300 mm, and 350 mm), and three kinds of operation speed (4 km/h low speed, 6 km/h medium speed, and 8 km/h high speed), totaling 18 kinds of test conditions. Eventually, the effects of changes in working condition parameters of the subsoiling operation on the overall damage of subsoiling shovels and the differences in damage occurring between the front and rear rows of subsoiling shovels under the same test conditions were analyzed. The test results show that under the same soil penetration resistance, the overall damage sustained by the subsoiling shovels increases regardless of the increase in the tillage depth or operating speed. In particular, the increase in the tillage depth increased the severity of subsoiling shovel damage by 19.73%, which was higher than the 17.48% increase due to soil penetration resistance and the 13.07% increase due to the operating speed. It should be noted that the front subsoiling shovels consistently sustained more damage than the rear, and the difference was able to reach 16.86%. Ondol is a heating system unique to Korean homes that increases indoor temperatures by supplying hot water through pipes embedded in floor slabs. Known for its comfort and sustained heating advantages, ondol has garnered international interest in countries requiring efficient heating solutions. Given the inherent challenges faced during installation and operation, timely inspection of ondol is crucial due to difficulties in detecting and locating defects in buried concrete pipes, often leading to costly rework and removal. However, specialized inspection systems tailored to ondol pipes remain underexplored. Therefore, this paper proposes a robotic inspection system capable of assessing the conditions of ondol pipelines. We analyze the characteristics of ondol piping to establish system requirements and develop a prototype of a compact capsule-shaped inspection robot tailored for ondol pipe inspection. Subsequent laboratory testing validates system performance and usability, confirming field applications through curvature maneuverability and image reception quality tests. This study aims to motivate advancements in ondol-specific system implementation and performance validation, potentially contributing to the smartification of ondol maintenance practices. Recycled concrete is a new and environmentally friendly material for future construction. When applying recycled concrete to cold and severe regions, it is necessary to consider the freeze–thaw resistance of recycled concrete. Using an indoor freeze–thaw cycle test system, the rapid freezing method was used to conduct rapid freeze–thaw tests on recycled concrete specimens under set freeze–thaw cycle conditions. Relevant parameters (such as compressive strength, quality loss rate, rebound value) were tested on recycled concrete specimens that completed the set number of freeze–thaw cycles. The influence of various factors (freeze–thaw cycle number, replacement rate of recycled aggregates) on the compressive strength, quality loss rate, and rebound value of recycled concrete was analyzed. The results indicate that with the increase of freeze–thaw cycles and recycled aggregate content, the workability, rebound value, and compressive strength of the specimens decrease, and the quality loss rate increases. The changes in workability of concrete are sharp, with a slump difference of 21 mm between concrete with 100% recycled coarse aggregate and concrete using natural coarse aggregate. The rebound value of the specimen shows a decreasing trend overall, but the rebound value varies for different measuring points on the same specimen. The attenuation of compressive strength is significant. When fully using recycled aggregates to prepare concrete, the compressive strength after 30 freeze–thaw cycles decreases by 49.42% compared to the compressive strength after 0 freeze–thaw cycles. Since the start of the mandatory nationwide bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) eradication program in Germany in 2011, the number of persistently infected (PI) animals has decreased considerably, resulting in a continuous decrease in seroprevalence. The increasingly BVD-naive cattle population could facilitate spillover infections with non-BVDV ruminant pestiviruses. Here, we report two cases in which novel pestiviruses were isolated from cattle; in both cases, the whole genome sequence showed the highest level of identity to strain "Pestivirus reindeer-1". Both novel viruses gave positive results in BVDV diagnostic test systems, confirming that cross-reactivity is an important issue in pestivirus diagnostics. In the first case, the pestivirus was probably transmitted from sheep kept with the affected cattle, suggesting that the co-housing of small ruminants and cattle is a risk factor. The source of infection could not be determined in the second case. The occurrence of these two cases in independent cattle holdings within a relatively short time frame suggests that it would be useful to determine the presence of pestiviruses in small ruminants or even wild ruminants to better assess risk factors, especially for BVDV-free populations. The increasing prevalence of esophageal disease highlights the clinical relevance of novel, long-lasting mucoadhesive oral dosage forms. The EsoCap device enables targeted local application of films in the esophagus. Biorelevant test systems such as EsoPeriDiss are essential for early formulation development. To this end, the developed and already described release model for simulating the esophagus is being further developed for its potential for biorelevant mapping of the application site through complete tempering and investigation of biorelevant release media. Particularly viscous saliva formulations led to an extension of the retention time. In addition, possible formulation strategies for increasing the retention time of esophageal applied films are being evaluated, such as different film thicknesses, polymer grades and the influence of different active ingredient properties on the retention time. For highly soluble active ingredients, the film thickness represents an option for extending the retention time, while for less soluble substances, the choice of polymer grade may be of particular interest. Wear simulation aims to assess wear rates and their dependence on factors like load, kinematics, temperature, and implant orientation. Despite its significance, there is a notable gap in research concerning advancements in simulator control systems and the testing of clinically relevant waveforms. This study addresses this gap by focusing on enhancing the conventional proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller used in joint simulators through the development of a fuzzy logic-based controller. Leveraging a single-input multiple-output (SIMO) fuzzy logic control system, this study aimed to improve displacement control, augmenting the traditional proportional–integral (PI) tuning approach. The implementation and evaluation of a novel Fuzzy-PI control algorithm were conducted on the Leeds spine wear simulator. This study also included the testing of dailyliving (DL) profiles, particularly from the hip joint, to broaden the scope of simulation scenarios. While both the conventional PI controller and the Fuzzy-PI controller met ISO tolerance criteria for the spine flexion–extension (FE) profile at 1 Hz, the Fuzzy-PI controller demonstrated superior performance at higher frequencies and with DL profiles due to its real-time adaptive tuning capability. The Fuzzy-PI controller represents a significant advancement in joint wear simulation, offering improved control functionalities and more accurate emulation of real-world physiological dynamics. This study aimed to evaluate the sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) tracer technique for estimating methane (CH4) emissions in dual-flow continuous culture systems (DFCCS). In experiment 1 (Exp1), fermenters were filled with water, and known CH4 concentrations (0, 1.35, 2.93, or 4.43 g/d) were injected using permeation tubes with SF6 release rates (3.30 or 9.65 mg/d). Headspace gas was collected using canisters, and the SF6 technique estimated CH4 recovery. Experiment 2 (Exp2) involved a DFCCS fermentation trial with ruminal fluid from three Holstein cows, testing diets with soybean meal or its partial replacement (50%) by Chlorella or Spirulina. Headspace gas was collected at intervals post-feeding. Standard curves for SF6 and CH4 quantification were inadequate for DFCCS samples, with the CH4:SF6 ratio differing from standards, indicating the data needs further SF6 release rate evaluation. In Exp1, a high correlation (r = 0.97) was found between infused and calculated CH4, indicating good repeatability. Low and high SF6 rates performed similarly at low CH4 infusion, but high SF6 overestimated CH4 at high infusion. Exp2 showed CH4 emissions irrespective of SF6 rate and indicated reduced CH4 emissions and increased NDF degradation with algae-containing diets. Ensuring safety and efficiency in the rapidly advancing autonomous vehicle (AV) industry presents a significant engineering challenge. Comprehensive performance evaluations and critical scenario testing are essential for identifying situations that AVs cannot handle. Thus, generating critical scenarios is a key problem in AV testing system design. This paper proposes a game-theoretic adversarial interaction method to efficiently generate critical scenarios that challenge AV systems. Initial motion prediction for adversarial and surrounding vehicles is based on kinematic models and road constraints, establishing interaction action spaces to determine possible driving domains. A novel evaluation approach combines reachability sets with adversarial intensity to assess collision risks and adversarial strength for any state, used to solve behavior values for each interaction action state. Further, equilibrium action strategies for the vehicles are derived using Stackelberg game theory, yielding optimal actions considering adversarial interactions in the current traffic environment. Simulation results show that the adversarial scenarios generated by this method significantly increase incident rates by 158% to 1313% compared to natural driving scenarios, while ride comfort and driving efficiency decrease, and risk significantly increases. This study employs an innovative dynamic switching test system to investigate the dynamic switching characteristics of three p-GaN HEMT devices. The dynamic switching characteristics are different from the previous research on the dynamic resistance characteristics of GaN devices, and the stability of GaN devices can be analyzed from the perspective of switching characteristics. Based on the theory of dynamic changes in threshold opening voltage and capacitance caused by electrical stress, the mechanism of dynamic switching characteristics of GaN HEMT devices is studied and analyzed in detail. The test results have shown that electrical stress induces trap ionization within the device, resulting in fluctuations in electric potential and ultimately leading to alterations in two critical factors of the dynamic switching characteristics of GaN HEMT devices, the parasitic capacitance and the threshold voltage. The dynamic changes in capacitance before and after electrical stress vary among devices, resulting in different dynamic switching characteristics. The test system is capable of extracting the switching waveform for visual comparison and quantitatively calculating the changes in switching parameters before and after electrical stressing. (1) Background: There is an ongoing discussion on the elution efficacy of antibiotic-impregnated cements. Our experiments were intended to clarify if there are differences in the antibiotic elution of HPLC compared with inhibition zone testing using eluates or PMMA discs. (2) Materials and Methods: Two cement brands with different concentrations of the active ingredient were tested in antimicrobial Kirby–Bauer (disc diffusion) assays. Cement platelets were directly applied on the agar plates and their zone of inhibition was measured. In parallel, the platelets were incubated in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) and at distinct points of time transferred into new buffer. At these time points, 50 µL of the bone cement eluates was used for zone of inhibition testing. Standard gentamicin sulfate solutions served as a control in the same test setup. To verify the microbiological investigations, the antibiotic content of the eluates was also measured via high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). (3) Results: The experiments with cement eluates showed better differentiable results than the direct application of the cement discs. The results were also comparable to investigations with HPLC and gentamicin sulfate standard solutions. (4) Conclusions: The results of elution rates are influenced by the test system and the period of observation chosen. The microbial test systems reflect the results of HPLC to the same degree and give evidence of the efficacy of the antibiotics. (1) Background: Romanian earthquakes caused severe damage over time to a significant number of constructions, and that is why efforts are being made to make structural systems safer. (2) Methods: For structural systems with protection against seismic actions or vibrational actions that have linear viscous dissipation devices, the requirement to assess the equivalent modal damping rate for the entire functional assembly related to the other dynamic parameters arises. (3) Results: This article presents the analytical development of formulas for the compound damping and circular frequency when anti-seismic devices have different dynamic characteristics and their application in order to solve some real engineering cases of bridges and viaducts in Romania with distinct viscoelastic supports. In support of this idea, some experimental tests on a beam system resting on two different anti-seismic elastic supports highlighted the fact that the compound damping of the system can be calculated with the relations established in this paper, provided that the displacements in the horizontal direction of excitation are in the linear domain. Also, we determined the seismic response considering the Vrancea 1977 accelerogram for critical damping ratios of 5% and 18.5%, and then we obtained the variation in the factor of transmissibility depending on the frequency, in order to highlight the optimized value of the equivalent amortization/damping. (4) Conclusions: In the specific context of Romanian seismicity, seismic isolation through the use of isolators with different characteristics represents an optimal technical solution, and it is also optimal from an economic point of view, with an appropriate level of dynamic isolation obtained. Docker has gained significant popularity in recent years. With the introduction of Docker Desktop for Windows and macOS, there is a need to determine the impact of the operating system on the performance of the Docker platform. This paper aims to investigate the performance of Docker containers based on the operating system. One of the fundamental goals of this study is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the Docker architecture. This technology utilizes Linux kernel virtualization mechanisms such as namespaces and cgroups. Upon analyzing the distribution of Docker Desktop for Windows and Docker Desktop for macOS, it was discovered that running the Docker environment on these requires a lightweight virtual machine that emulates the Linux system. This information suggests that the additional virtualization layer may hinder the performance of non-Linux operating systems hosting Docker containers. The paper presents a performance test of the Docker runtime on Linux, Microsoft Windows, and macOS. The test evaluated specific aspects of operating system performance on a MacBook computer with an ×86/64 processor architecture. Coal seam cavitation is one of the most effective techniques for gas disaster control in low-permeability coal. Due to the difference in cavitation method and process, the damage degree and fracture development range of the coal body around the cavern are greatly different, and the effect of increasing the permeability of the coal body is further changed. In order to further understand the permeability enhancement mechanism of cavitation technology on low-permeability coal and effectively guide engineering applications, this paper conducted experimental research on the unloading damage and permeability evolution characteristics of coal under different cavitation paths using a coal-rock "adsorption-percolation-mechanics" coupling test system. Through the analysis of coal strength and deformation characteristics, coal damage characteristics, and the evolution law of coal permeability combined with the macroscopic damage characteristics of coal, the strength degradation mechanism of unloaded coal and the mechanism of increased permeability and flow were revealed. The results show that unloading can significantly reduce the strength of coal, and the greater the unloading rate, the more obvious the reduction. The essence of this is that unloading reduces the cohesion and internal friction angle of coal—damage and breakage are the most effective ways to improve the permeability of the coal body. Unloading damaged coal bodies not only significantly improves the permeability of the coal body but also improves the diffusion ability of gas, and finally, shows a remarkable strengthening effect of gas extraction. The development of a piezoelectric linear motor is presented in this paper, based on the principle of alternating motion, to meet the acting stroke and accuracy requirements for the probe station's motion servo system. By partitioning the stator into tangential and normal components, two tangential actuators are affixed to the base, while two normal actuators are fixed on the preloading mechanism, thereby proposing a novel approach for connecting the stator and base. First, the construction and the working principle of the motor were introduced. Subsequently, the motor's major components were designed through finite element simulation, followed by modeling the motor dynamics and deriving its displacement transfer function. Finally, an experimental prototype was fabricated, and a prototype test system was constructed. The driving method can realize a large stroke operation at a low frequency. The minimum operating frequency of the motor is 1 Hz, the minimum step is 12.55 μm, and the stroke is 105 mm. The study results will promote the development of high-performance probe systems. Brucellosis in animals is an infectious disease caused by bacteria of the genus Brucella. Known methods for diagnosing brucellosis face some challenges, due to the difficulties in isolating and standardizing the natural brucellosis antigen. In this work, we investigated the possibility of using the fluorescence polarization assay (FPA) with synthetic glycoconjugate biosensing tracers to detect antibodies against Brucella as a new methodology for diagnosing brucellosis. Based on the received results, the synthetic fluorescein-labeled trisaccharide tracer is most effective for Brucellosis detection. This tracer is structurally related to the immune determinant fragment of the Brucella LPS buildup of N-formyl-d-perosamine units, connected via α-(1→3)-linkage at the non-reducing end and α-(1→2)-linkage at the reducing end. The sensitivity and specificity in the case of the use of trisaccharide tracer 3b were 71% and 100% (Yuden's method) and 87% and 88% (Euclidean method), respectively, which is comparable with the diagnostic efficiency of traditionally used serological methods, such as the agglutination test (AT), complement fixation test (CFT), and Rose Bengal test (RBT). Given the known advantages of FPA (e.g., speed, compactness of the equipment, and standard reagents) and the increased specificity of the developed test system, it would be appropriate to consider its widespread use for the diagnosis of brucellosis in animals, including rapid testing in the field. The provision of wireless and battery-free power is key to extending the applications of body-worn sensing electronics. This paper investigates the design of an IPT system for a body-worn scenario where the challenges include highly variable coupling, the requirement for the coil/s to be flexible, and close proximity to the body. Variable coupling results in a system that must operate with received powers ranging over orders of magnitude, whilst the use of flexible coils reduces the Q-factor and results in the potential for inductance variation. The human exposure considerations limit both the maximum field strengths that the wearer of a receiver coil might experience and the field strengths that a third party might be exposed to. In this paper, analytical models are used to identify key design variables and to guide the design synthesis of an IPT system for a wrist-worn medical sensor. Practical circuits to drive the transmit coil and to interface the receive coil with the load electronics are described. A prototype system is tested to validate the theoretical analysis, providing power greater than 2 mW to the sensor over a hemispherical region up to 250 mm in radius from the transmit coil. The performance of critical components in a sensor testing system may be compromised in a thermal vacuum environment as a result of the impact of extreme temperatures. Moreover, the precision of the angle measurement may be influenced by the thermal deformation effect. This paper presents a simulated analysis of the temperature regulation impact of the thermoelectric cooler (TEC) and outlines the design and optimization process of a sensor test chamber that can function within a consistent temperature range. The mathematical model of TEC is utilized to suggest a design choice, taking into account the aforementioned model, in a temperature-controlled environment with thermal vacuum circumstances. Moreover, the orthogonal test method is employed in combination with the FloEFD finite element analysis to validate the effectiveness of temperature control. In addition, the parameters of the radiation radiator are tuned and designed. Therefore, the temperature range difference inside the test system decreased by 20%. The thermoelectric temperature control system's steady-state model is investigated using the PSpice simulation, based on the equivalent circuit theory. The timely injection of gangue slurry into the mining space formed after coal mining can scale up the disposal of gangue and control surface deformation. However, the waterproof effect of gangue slurry in the mining space remains unclear, necessitating urgent investigation into the permeability characteristics of compacted backfill bodies of gangue slurry under the action of overburden. In this study, a multi-field coupled seepage test system for backfill materials was developed based on Forchheimer's nonlinear seepage law, and a laboratory preparation method for compacted backfill body (CBB) of gangue slurry after grouting and backfilling in mining space under pseudo-triaxial conditions was proposed. Additionally, the pressure bleeding characteristics of gangue slurry under the action of overburden were studied, the variation law of permeability of the CBB with the axial pressure, a particle size range, and cement dosage was revealed, and the determination method for the permeability level of the CBB and its optimization method were put forward. The research results indicate that there are obvious staged characteristics in the pressure bleeding changes in gangue slurry. Axial pressure, particle size range, and cement dosage all have a significant impact on the permeability of the CBB. The permeability level of the CBB of gangue slurry is within the range of poor permeability and extremely poor permeability. Multi-Dimensional Optimal Power Flow (MDOPF) is a fundamental task in power systems engineering aimed at optimizing the operation of electrical networks while considering various constraints such as power generation, transmission, and distribution. The mathematical model of MDOPF involves formulating it as a non-linear, non-convex optimization problem aimed at minimizing specific objective functions while adhering to equality and inequality constraints. The objective function typically includes terms representing the Fuel Cost (FC), Entire Network Losses (ENL), and Entire Emissions (EE), while the constraints encompass power balance equations, generator operating limits, and network constraints, such as line flow limits and voltage limits. This paper presents an innovative Improved Kepler Optimization Technique (IKOT) for solving MDOPF problems. The IKOT builds upon the traditional KOT and incorporates enhanced local escaping mechanisms to overcome local optima traps and improve convergence speed. The mathematical model of the IKOT algorithm involves defining a population of candidate solutions (individuals) represented as vectors in a high-dimensional search space. Each individual corresponds to a potential solution to the MDOPF problem, and the algorithm iteratively refines these solutions to converge towards the optimal solution. The key innovation of the IKOT lies in its enhanced local escaping mechanisms, which enable it to explore the search space more effectively and avoid premature convergence to suboptimal solutions. Experimental results on standard IEEE test systems demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed IKOT in solving MDOPF problems. The proposed IKOT obtained the FC, EE, and ENL of USD 41,666.963/h, 1.039 Ton/h, and 9.087 MW, respectively, in comparison with the KOT, which achieved USD 41,677.349/h, 1.048 Ton/h, 11.277 MW, respectively. In comparison to the base scenario, the IKOT achieved a reduction percentage of 18.85%, 58.89%, and 64.13%, respectively, for the three scenarios. The IKOT consistently outperformed the original KOT and other state-of-the-art metaheuristic optimization algorithms in terms of solution quality, convergence speed, and robustness. To confirm the variation in damping ratio offered by dry friction dampers against structural vibration stress, this study developed a blade vibration response test system for capturing damping characteristic curves through both frequency sweep excitation and damping-freevibration methods. The damping-free vibration method demonstrates high efficiency, allowing for the acquisition of a complete damping ratio characteristic curve in a single experiment. Experimental findings indicate that the two contact surfaces on the triangular prism damper produce distinct damping effects, closely aligning with the predicted damping characteristic curves. The peak damping ratio was found to be independent of the centrifugal load of the damper; dampers with varying contact areas produce approximately similar damping characteristics; and the damping effect shows a positive correlation with the root extension length. Tilt-to-length (TTL) coupling noise arises from angular misalignments of interfering beams in optical path length (OPL) measurements and significantly impacts the accuracy of interferometry measurement systems. This paper focuses on geometric TTL coupling in a test mass (TM) interferometer and examines how an imaging system influences TTL noise suppression. First, the analytical expression of the geometric TTL coupling in a TM interferometer with alignment errors is derived and confirmed through numerical simulation. Subsequently, an imaging system is incorporated into the geometric model and the corresponding analytical expressions are obtained under two common conjugate relationships. Nevertheless, the TTL coupling remains beyond the requirement of TM interferometer, as the residual TTL coupled with alignment errors persists even with the imaging system. Therefore, an optimal position of the imaging system capable of eliminating the second-order term of the TTL coupling is determined. Meanwhile, the first-order term can be mitigated through in-orbit calibrations. These findings offer valuable guidance for the design and adjustment of imaging systems in space-borne gravitational wave detection missions, which require high-precision laser interferometry. Equipping autonomous agents for dynamic interaction and navigation is a significant challenge in intelligent transportation systems. This study aims to address this by implementing a brain-inspired model for decision making in autonomous vehicles. We employ active inference, a Bayesian approach that models decision-making processes similar to the human brain, focusing on the agent's preferences and the principle of free energy. This approach is combined with imitation learning to enhance the vehicle's ability to adapt to new observations and make human-like decisions. The research involved developing a multi-modal self-awareness architecture for autonomous driving systems and testing this model in driving scenarios, including abnormal observations. The results demonstrated the model's effectiveness in enabling the vehicle to make safe decisions, particularly in unobserved or dynamic environments. To bridge the gap in the research on the control and drive methods of the key equipment of the new subsea production control system, all-electric subsea gate valve actuator, and to solve the problems of the valve control and drive system in the traditional subsea production system, this paper proposed a full-featured and feasible electrical system of the all-electric subsea gate valve actuator containing the control system and the drive system. The key functions were realized, including status monitoring, redundant communication, redundant power supply, redundant drive, and low-power open-position holding. The electrical system is suitable for monitoring and controlling all-electric subsea gate valve actuators with various specifications and is highly integrated, open, efficient, and real-time. In light of the heavy load applied by traditional air spring test equipment and its complex structural system design, a lever-type torque loading air spring test system is designed. It adopts the principle of Chinese scales to apply the load on the air spring in the form of proportional amplification, which can apply a simulated load on the air spring of 500–800 kg, using the vertical sliding shaft as the transverse limit to make the air spring elongate and compress by 280 mm in the longitudinal direction. The measurement and control system of the test equipment is then developed based on the LabVIEW platform, and the required sensors are selected and installed. The system can achieve real-time data acquisition of the air pressure, load, height and other parameters of the air spring and air spring charging and discharging control. Following the debugging of the function of the test equipment, the function of each subsystem is normal and able to meet the requirements of air spring characteristic and pressure tightness tests. In this paper, a novel three-degree-of-freedom piezoelectric-driven micro-positioning platform based on a lever combination compound bridge-type displacement amplification mechanism is proposed. The micro-positioning platform proposed in this paper aims to solve the current problem of the large size and small travel of the three-degree-of-freedom piezoelectric-driven micro-positioning platform. In this paper, a lever combination compound bridge-type displacement amplification mechanism combined with a new biaxial flexible hinge is proposed, the structural dimensions of the lever mechanism and the compound bridge mechanism are optimized, and the amplification multiplier is determined. The maximum output simulation analysis of the micro-positioning platform is carried out by using ANSYS, and the experimental test system is built for verification. The validation results show that the maximum errors between simulation and experiment in the z-direction, rotation direction around x, and rotation direction around y are 64 μm, 0.016°, and 0.038°, respectively, and the corresponding maximum relative errors are 5.6%, 2.4%, and 6.6%, respectively, which proves the feasibility of the theoretical design. According to related research, different body temperatures, heart rates, and locomotor behaviors of small-tailed cold goats can represent the physical condition of the goats themselves and are used as direct evidence for evaluating the physical health status of small-tailed cold goats. In this paper, we designed and tested a system for predicting the health status of small-tailed cold sheep based on wearable information monitoring technology. To test the system, sheep wearable devices were worn on 36 small-tailed cold sheep of different ages and inconsistent health conditions at different time points from May to October. A SLBAS-BP neural network model for predicting the health condition of small-tailed cold sheep was established using the collected and processed data, which overcame the problem that the traditional gradient descent method in the BP neural network is prone to fall into local optimization leading to insufficient prediction ability. The correct prediction rates of the improved BP neural network for the four health conditions of healthy, sub-healthy, fever, and disease were 98.4%, 94.5%, 90.4%, and 98.7%, respectively, and the average correct prediction rate of the four conditions was 5.8% higher than that before the improvement, reaching 95.2%. Guided wave ultrasonic testing (GWUT) within the realm of pipeline inspection is an efficacious approach; however, current GWUT systems are characterized by high costs and power consumption, and their detection results are significantly susceptible to noise interference. Addressing these issues, this study introduces a GWUT system predicated on adaptive wavelet threshold denoising, centered around a low-power main controller, achieving cost-effective and low-power-consumption pipeline non-destructive testing (NDT) with clear results. The system employs an STM32 as the main controller and utilizes direct digital frequency synthesis (DDS) technology to generate ultrasonic excitation signals. These signals, after power amplifier processing, ensure high-stability output for the driving signal. In conjunction with the signal acquisition module, digital filtering of the collected signals is executed via the host computer. Empirical validation has demonstrated that the system can achieve an output amplitude of up to 90 Vpp within an excitation frequency range of 20 kHz–400 kHz, directly driving piezoelectric transducers. The optimal threshold is identified using the butterfly optimization algorithm, enabling the wavelet threshold function to adaptively denoise the echo signals, thereby significantly enhancing the capability to identify pipeline damage. This paper introduces a novel hybrid filtering algorithm that leverages the advantages of Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) to address state estimation challenges in power systems. The primary objective is to integrate the benefits of PMU measurements into the design of traditional power system dynamic estimators. It is noteworthy that PMUs and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems typically operate at different sampling rates in power system estimation, necessitating synchronization during the filtering process. To address this issue, the paper employs a predictive interpolation method for SCADA measurements within the framework of the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) algorithm. This approach achieves more accurate estimates, closer to real observation data, by averaging the KL distribution. The algorithm is particularly well-suited for state estimation tasks in power systems that combine traditional and PMU measurements. Extensive simulations were conducted on the IEEE-14 and IEEE-30 test systems, and the results demonstrate that the fused estimator outperforms individual estimators in terms of estimation accuracy. The objective of a power system is to provide electricity to its customers as economically as possible with an acceptable level of reliability while safeguarding the environment. Power system reliability assessments are routinely performed to ensure adequate system resources and reliable operation using well-established methods, quantitative metrics, regulatory standards and compliance incentives in the jurisdictions of responsibilities. The alarming increase in the occurrence of extreme events, which are not included in routine reliability evaluation, has raised growing concerns due to the catastrophic impacts of these events on distribution systems. The potential economic losses due to prolonged and large-scale outages have motivated utility planners, operators and policy makers to acknowledge the importance of system resiliency against such events. Power system resiliency, however, lacks widely accepted modeling frameworks, standards, assessment methods and metrics. This paper presents a resilience assessment framework, along with quantifiable metrics to assess the resiliency of a distribution system against extreme winds, which are among the most common form of natural disasters affecting the North American region. The rocket sled, as a ground dynamic test system, combines the characteristics of the wind tunnel test and the flight test. However, some practical factors, such as shock wave interference, ground effect, and high-intensity aerodynamic noise will cause serious interference and even failure of the uniformly distributed sensors during horizontal sliding in a wide speed range. The AGARD HB-2 standard model is employed as the payload to simulate the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic characteristics during the variable acceleration period, aiming to optimize the test sensors layout. It is observed that in the high Mach number flow fields, strong coupling behaviors among complex waves will occur. The peak of wake vortex strength will appear at 1.5 s and gradually diminish over time. In addition, when the vortex between the load and the booster is monitored, its position shifts forward in the subsonic stage, then gradually moves backward and expands in the supersonic stage. Acoustic directivity is pronounced at subsonic and transonic speeds, pointing towards 75° and 135° relative to the sliding speed, respectively. Ferromagnetic pipes are widely used in the oil and gas industry. They are subject to cracks due to corrosion, pressure, and fatigue. It is significant to detect cracks for the safety of pipes. A residual magnetic field testing (RMFT) system is developed for crack detection in ferromagnetic pipes. Based on this background, a detection probe based on an array of tunneling magneto-resistive (TMR) sensors and permanent magnets is exploited. The probe is able to partially magnetize the pipe wall and collect magnetic signals simultaneously. First, a theoretical analysis of RMFT is presented. The physics principle of RMFT is introduced, and a finite element model is built. In the finite element simulations, the effects of the crack length and depth on the RMFT signal are analyzed, and the signal characteristics are selected to represent the crack size. Nanoparticles (NPs) are becoming increasingly important novel materials for many purposes, including basic research, medicine, agriculture, and engineering. Increasing human and environmental exposure to these promising compounds requires assessment of their potential health risks. While the general direct cytotoxicity of NPs is often routinely measured, more indirect possible long-term effects, such as reproductive or developmental neurotoxicity (DNT), have been studied only occasionally and, if so, mostly on non-human animal models, such as zebrafish embryos. In this present study, we employed a well-characterized human neuronal precursor cell line to test the concentration-dependent DNT of green-manufactured copper sulfide (CuS) nanoparticles on crucial early events in human brain development. CuS NPs turned out to be generally cytotoxic in the low ppm range. Using an established prediction model, we found a clear DNT potential of CuS NPs on neuronal precursor cell migration and neurite outgrowth, with IC50 values 10 times and 5 times, respectively, lower for the specific DNT endpoint than for general cytotoxicity. A novel compact 2-DOF compliant positioner is developed for the purpose of achieving good characteristics such as high natural frequency, high displacement amplification ratio, good linear motion, and compact structure based on its symmetrical structure. To be specific, the developed stage is proposed according to an advanced six-lever displacement amplifier arranged at an inclination angle of the rigid bar utilizing right circular hinges and a parallel guiding mechanism with integrated flexure leaf hinges to attain the above-mentioned characteristics and reduce the decoupling mobility error. First, to quickly assess the initial quality response, an integration method of kinetostatic analysis, the Lagrange method, and finite element analysis was applied to evaluate and verify the quality characteristic of the stage. The experimental result showed that the error between the analytical method and the FEA method was 1.3%, which was relatively small and reliable for quickly assessing the primary quality response of the proposed positioner. Next, to boost the important output characteristics of the developed positioner, the integration approach of the response surface method and NSGA-II algorithm was utilized to find the optimal design variables. Finally, a prototype was manufactured based on the CNC milling method to validate the experimental and FEA analysis results. The attained results show that the optimal results of safety factor and output displacement were 2.4025 and 248.9 µm. Moreover, the FEA verification results were 2.4989 and 242.16 µm, with errors for safety factor and output displacement between the optimal result and the FEA result of 3.86% and 2.78%, respectively. In addition, the simulation and experimental results of the first natural frequency were 371.83 Hz and 329.59 Hz, respectively, and the error between the FEA result and experimental result for the first natural frequency was 11.36%. Furthermore, the achieved results show that the relationship between input displacement and output displacement of the experimental result and the FEA result of the developed structure achieved a good linear connection. These results suggest that the proposed positioner will be a potential structure employed in precise positioning systems and nanoindentation testing positioning systems for checking bio-specimens' behaviors. In order to evaluate and better understand this damage phenomenon in these tribological systems, a tilted linear tribometer (TE77) for application-oriented reciprocating model tests was developed and validated with scuffed field engine parts. With precise oil lubrication, original engine parts, such as CKS-coated piston rings (chromium-based coating with included aluminum oxides), original liners and fully formulated lubrications, were tested under conditions similar to the most critical part of the internal combustion engines (ICEs), known as fired top dead center (FTDC). Various in situ measurements during the tests allowed for a detailed investigation of the damage processes (crack transformation) on the tribological components. For the coated piston ring, vertical cracks were attributed to residual stresses, while horizontal cracks resulted from shear stresses. The crack transformation and wear results from other studies were confirmed for the liner. The results from FIB (Focused Ion Beam) cuts, along with EDS and SEM analyses, revealed that Fe (deriving from material transfer) acts as a catalyst on the CKS layer for the tribopads and that zinc sulfides are not present everywhere. To address the inefficiency and instability of automatic transplanting machines, a dual-row seedling pick-up device and its corresponding control system were developed. Existing seedling end-effectors are primarily mechanically controlled, and the seedling needles can easily cause damage to the interior of the bowl. In order to reduce the damage inflicted by the end-effectors to the bowl, this paper conducted a mechanical analysis of the end-effector. At the same time, a buffer optimization analysis was conducted on the operation of the end-effector, and a flexible pneumatic end-effector for seedling picking was designed. The control system combined the detection of multiple sensors to monitor the process of seedling picking and throwing. By coordinating the lifting cylinder and clamping cylinder, the system effectively reduced seedling pot damage while improving seedling picking efficiency. By setting the operating parameters of the servo motor, the goal of low-speed and high-efficiency seedling picking was achieved. To evaluate the performance of the control system, the linear displacement sensors and acceleration testing systems were used to analyze the performance of the seedling throwing. The results showed that the seedling picking efficiency could reach 180 plants min−1, with no significant difference between the actual measured moving distance and the theoretical setting distance. The positioning error remained stable between 0.5 and 0.9 mm, which met the requirements for seedling picking accuracy. The buffer optimization design reduced the peak acceleration of the end-effector from −22.1 m/s2 to −13.4 m/s2, and the peak value was reduced by 39.4%, which proved the significant effectiveness of the buffer design. A performance test was conducted using 128-hole seed trays and 33-day-old cabbage seedlings for seedling picking and throwing. When the planting frequency reached 90 plants/row·min−1, the average success rate of picking and throwing seedlings was 97.3%. This indicates that the various components of the designed seedling pick-up device work in good coordination during operation, and the control system operates stably. Technical requirements for the automatic mechanical transplanting of tray seedlings were achieved, which can provide reference for research on automatic transplanting machines. This research emphasizes a meta-heuristic modified ant lion optimizer (MALO) optimization approach for the simultaneous utilization of DSTATCOM devices and distributed photovoltaic (PV) sources with network reconfiguration in a radial power distribution scheme. In a radial power distribution network with network reconfiguration, the majority of the research is based on constant power model analysis. However, it is noticed that load models have a substantial impact on the distributed PV sources and the DSTATCOM device's optimal size and position. The effect of the constant power (CP) and polynomial (ZIP) with load growth load models for the simultaneous insertion of distributed PV sources and DSTATCOM devices with network reconfiguration is examined in this research work for power system planning. The penetration levels of distributed PV sources considered for the investigation are 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. The principal objective of this research is to reduce network total power losses, enhance the voltage magnitude profile at all buses, and reduce the overall operating cost while adhering to equality and inequality constraints. The proposed algorithm is verified on 118-node test systems. The investigation is carried out for planning network upgrading to a high-voltage distribution system (HVDS) on 317 nodes in the rural Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) radial distribution scheme. The simulated results obtained with this method are validated with the BAT algorithm and techniques available in the literature. It is observed that in the IEEE 118-bus system, via the simultaneous placement and sizing of PV sources considering a 25% penetration level and DSTATCOM devices during network reconfiguration, the total power loss reduction is 41.47% and 42.98% for the constant power model and ZIP with the load growth model. For the 317-bus system, the total power loss reduction observed for 11 kV is 49.77% and 59.34% for the constant power model and ZIP model with load growth. The nondestructive spectral analysis of surface waves (SASW) technique determines the shear wave velocities along the wide wavelength range using Rayleigh-type surface waves that propagate along pairs of receivers on the surface. The typical configuration of source-receivers consists of a vertical source and three vertical receivers arranged in a linear array. While this approach allows for effective site characterization, laterally variable sites are often challenging to characterize. In addition, in a traditional SASW test configuration system, where sources are placed in one direction, the data are collected more on one side, which can cause an imbalance in the interpretation of the data. Data interpretation issues can be resolved by moving the source to opposite ends of the original array and relocating receivers to perform a second complete set of tests. Consequently, two different Vs profiles can be provided with only a small amount of additional time at sites where lateral variability exists. Furthermore, the testing procedure can be modified to enhance the site characterization during data collection. To enhance the precision and efficiency of the tractor-failure-rate and equipment-quality inspection, the present study introduces a wireless rapid detection method for assessing tractor quality. For this study, which was based on the symmetrical structural characteristics of tractors, we designed a magnetic suction accelerometer. The test system was composed of a wireless router, a magnetic suction accelerometer sensor, a data-acquisition terminal, and other components. This test system aimed to test the equipment quality of the tractor at idle speed before leaving the factory. The experiment found that the vibration characteristics of the tractor had a symmetrical pattern on the left and right sides of the front and rear axle at idle. When the idle speed of the tractor was 800 r/min and 1000 r/min, the predominant vibration direction of both sides of the front axle of the tractor was the Y direction, while the predominant vibration direction of the rear axle was the Z direction. The experimental results showed that the proposed wireless rapid detection method of tractor quality and the designed acceleration sensor had good testing accuracy. The present study could provide a novel rapid detection method for the failure detection of power machinery in the agricultural field and for inspection before leaving the factory.
