The marine carbonates in the Ordovician Majiagou Formation in the Ordos Basin have significant exploration potential. Research has focused on their thermal history and hydrocarbon accumulation stages, as these are essential for guiding the exploration and development of hydrocarbons. In this paper, we study the thermal evolution history of the carbonate reservoirs of the Ordovician Majiagou Formation in the east-central Ordos Basin. Furthermore, petrographic and homogenization temperature studies of fluid inclusions were carried out to further reveal the hydrocarbon accumulation stages. The results demonstrate that the degree of thermal evolution of the Ordovician carbonate reservoirs is predominantly influenced by the deep thermal structure, exhibiting a trend of high to low values from south to north in the central region of the basin. The Fuxian area is located in the center of the Early Cretaceous thermal anomalies, with the maturity degree of the organic matter ranging from 1 to 3.2%, with a maximum value of 3.2%. The present geothermal gradient of the Ordovician Formation exhibits the characteristics of east–high and west–low, with an average of 28.6 °C/km. The average paleo-geotemperature gradient is 54.2 °C/km, the paleoheat flux is 55 mW/m2, and the maximum paleo-geotemperature reaches up to 270 °C. The thermal history recovery indicates that the Ordovician in the central part of the basin underwent three thermal evolution stages: (i) a slow warming stage before the Late Permian; (ii) a rapid warming stage from the end of the Late Permian to the end of the Early Cretaceous; (iii) a cooling stage after the Early Cretaceous, with the hydrocarbon production of hydrocarbon source rocks weakening. In the central part of the basin, the carbonate rock strata of the Majiagou Formation mainly developed asphalt inclusions, natural gas inclusions, and aqueous inclusions. The fluid inclusions can be classified into two stages. The early-stage fluid inclusions are mainly present in dissolution holes. The homogenization temperature is 110–130 °C; this coincides with the hydrocarbon charging period of 210–165 Ma, which corresponds to the end of the Triassic to the end of the Middle Jurassic. The late-stage fluid inclusions are in the dolomite vein or late calcite that filled the gypsum-model pores. The homogenization temperature is 160–170 °C; this coincides with the hydrocarbon charging period of 123–97 Ma, which corresponds to the late Early Cretaceous. The ash generated by Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boilers is featured by its looseness and porosity, low content of glassy substances, and high contents of calcium (Ca) and sulfur (S), thus resulting in a low comprehensive utilization rate. Currently, the predominant treatment approach for CFB ash and slag is stacking, which may give rise to issues like environmental pollution. In this paper, CFB ash (with a CaO content of 7.64% and an SO3 content of 1.77%) was used as the main raw material. The high-temperature melting characteristics, viscosity–temperature characteristics, and initial crystallization temperature of samples with different acidity coefficients were investigated. The final drawing temperature range of the samples was determined, and mechanical property tests were conducted on the prepared inorganic fibers. The results show that the addition of dolomite powder has a significant reducing effect on the complete liquid phase temperature. The final drawing temperatures of the samples with different acidity coefficients range as follows: 1270–1318 °C; 1272–1351 °C; 1250–1372 °C; 1280–1380 °C; 1300–1382 °C; and 1310–1384 °C. The drawing temperature of this system is slightly lower than that of basalt fibers. Based on the test results of the mechanical properties of inorganic fibers, the Young's modulus of the inorganic fibers prepared through the experiment lies between 55 GPa and 74 GPa, which basically meets the performance requirements of inorganic fibers. Hydraulic fracturing (HF) is the primary choice for stimulating petroleum reservoirs. Rock tensile strength and brittleness are crucial parameters required for screening candidate reservoirs and in designing successful HF operations. However, in situ and laboratory determinations of the hydraulic tensile strength (HTS) of rock can prove problematic. Alternatively, the HTS could be estimated from the rock brittleness once a reliable relationship has been established between them. Accordingly, this paper investigates the correlations between the HTS, as measured using laboratory hydraulic fracture tests, and ten strength-based brittleness indices (BIs) selected from the research literature. The primary inputs for computing these BIs are uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) and the Brazilian tensile strength (BTS), which are typically measured for most projects using standard laboratory rock mechanics tests or obtained from log data. For the purposes of this experimental investigation, intact rock core samples were obtained from a carbonate–dolomite formation in Iran, comprising eight distinct geomechanical units, with measured values of UCS, BTS, and HTS ranging 29.7–162.2, 1.93–12.23, and 7.20–20.63 MPa, respectively. The measured HTS was found to directly correlate with the UCS, BTS, and Young's modulus, and inversely correlated with the rock porosity. Seven of the ten investigated BIs correlated with the measured HTS over 69% (R2 ≥ 0.69). In particular, the BI expressions developed by Yagiz and Gokceoglu, Ghadernejad et al., and Khandelwal et al. exhibited relatively strong correlations with the measured HTS (producing R2 values of 0.94, 0.87, and 0.86, respectively), suggesting that these three HTS–BI correlations could be used to provide preliminary HTS estimates for the investigated carbonate–dolomite formation in Iran. This work adds to a database that can be expanded to include other geographical regions for providing useful information about the selection of a suitable site or reserve for conducting HF operations. In response to the challenges of karst geophysical exploration in an environment with strong external interference, this paper proposes a new method, namely the frequency-Bessel transform method, for extracting multi-order dispersion curves of surface waves from background noise to characterize karst. The observation noise data of the Wuhan karst development area are used as an example, where the dolomitic limestone and limestone mixed with dolomite of the Jialing River Formation of the middle lower Triassic are widely developed in the observation area. The frequency-Bessel transform method involves performing a Bessel integral transformation on the cross-correlation coefficient of background noise in the frequency domain. Firstly, by synthesizing theoretical noise data and comparing it with the spatial autocorrelation method—which is currently the main method for extracting the fundamental dispersion curve of surface waves—it is verified that the frequency-Bessel transform method can extract the higher-mode dispersion curve. Then, by taking the actual measured single-point noise data as an example, the effect of applying the frequency-Bessel transform to the actual noise data is tested, and the inversion of the fine structure of the strata by the addition of higher-mode dispersion, the use of the damped least squares inversion method, and the joint inversion of fundamental and higher-mode dispersion curves are analyzed. The higher-mode dispersion curve of Rayleigh surface wave extracted by the frequency-Bessel transform is much clearer, and the 2D shear wave velocity structure profile obtained from inversion explains the karst development area, karst strip area, and thickness of the Quaternary overburden. The inferred results match with the actual borehole data. Multi-mode imaging of background noise based on the frequency-Bessel method can be applied to depict karst in complex backgrounds, and has significant potentiality in the field of ambient seismic noise tomography, providing a new idea and method for karst detection in near-surface engineering. Siliceous minerals of the Dengying Formation in the Gaoshiti–Moxi area in the central Sichuan Basin exhibit four types of quartz crystals (cryptocrystalline quartz, chalcedony, microcrystalline quartz, and megacrystalline quartz) and three structural types: cryptocrystalline, microcrystalline, and mosaic (laminated mosaic, window-hole interrupted mosaic, and arc-laminated mosaic). Siliceous minerals have a great influence on the storage performance of the reservoirs in the Dengying Formation. According to the petrophysical parameters of the Dengying Formation and porosity intersection diagrams, the siliceous dolomite and the reservoirs have low impedance characteristics, which makes it difficult to distinguish between them and leads to difficulties in the characterization and prediction of the reservoirs. The transverse wave velocity is favorable for reservoir characterization. Currently, the main method used to estimate the transverse wave velocity is petrophysical modeling, which establishes a relationship between the elastic and physical parameters of the reservoir. In this paper, the siliceous minerals in the dolomite in the study area are regarded as solid inclusions, and the calculation method of the rock matrix modulus is improved by using solid replacement. Then, an improved petrophysical model is constructed by combining the KT (Kuster–Toksöz) model, the DEM (Discrete Element Method) model, the Gassmann equation, and the Wood equation. The transverse wave velocity is estimated using the improved model under the constraint of the longitudinal wave velocity. The shapes of the transverse wave velocity curves obtained by the improved model and the deviations from the measured velocities are significantly better than those of the Xu–Payne model and other models. The results show that the improved model can effectively estimate the transverse wave velocity of the reservoir in this area, which provides a basis for future reservoir predictions in this area. In the field of mineral processing, the successful flotation of target minerals requires sufficient liberation through grinding. The aim of this paper is to compare and evaluate the performance of ball versus short cylindrical media for comminution of dolomite by point and line contact, respectively. The results of the grinding experiments indicate that short cylinders generate more angular particles with intermediate sizes and exhibit a higher grinding efficiency compared to balls. The Population Balance Model demonstrates the distribution of broken fragment sizes during the breaking stage for each size range. The results of the DEM (discrete element method) grinding simulation are consistent with the experimental findings in terms of the distribution of particle sizes, the shape of the particles, and the distribution of broken fragment sizes. Furthermore, short cylinders selectively produce more active {104} crystal surface of dolomite, which possess a higher adsorption capacity with collectors and are preferentially floated as the concentrate. In reverse flotation for removal of dolomite, tests confirm that the products obtained from grinding with short cylinders exhibit a higher flotation recovery of dolomite compared to those obtained from ball grinding. Smithsonite, dolomite, and calcite are carbonate minerals. The crystal structures and spatial distribution characteristics of their common surface metal sites are similar, leading to difficulty in the flotation separation of smithsonite from these carbonate gangues. In this paper, the floatability of smithsonite, dolomite, and calcite in sodium oleate, salicylhydroxamic acid, and their combined-collector system were systematically studied through single-mineral flotation tests, respectively. The results showed that it was difficult to obtain a noticeable recovery difference between smithsonite–calcite and smithsonite–dolomite in a single-collector system of sodium oleate and salicylhydroxamic acid, both at the same time. In the combined-collector system of salicylhydroxamic acid and sodium oleate with total dosage of 6 × 10−4 mol/L, molar ratio of 3:1, and pH of 8.0, the recovery difference of smithsonite–calcite and smithsonite–dolomite could reach the highest values of 38.46% and 37.98%, respectively, while obtaining the highest smithsonite recovery of 88.19%. In order to enhance the development efficiency of thick and complex carbonate reservoirs in the Middle East, a case study was conducted on M oilfield in Iraq. This study focused on reservoir characterization, injection-production modes, well pattern optimization, and other related topics. As a result, key techniques for the high-efficiency development of thick carbonate reservoirs were established. The research findings include the following: (1) the discovery of hidden "low-velocity" features within the thick gypsum-salt layer, which led to the development of a new seismic velocity model; (2) the differential dissolution of grain-supported limestones is controlled by lithofacies and petrophysical properties, resulting in the occurrence of "porphyritic" phenomena in core sections. The genetic mechanism responsible for reversing petrophysical properties in dolostones is attributed to "big hole filling and small hole preservation" caused by dense brine refluxing; (3) fracture evaluation technology based on anisotropy and dipole shear wave long-distance imaging was developed to address challenges associated with quantitatively assessing micro-fractures; (4) through large-scale three-dimensional physical models and numerical simulations, it was revealed that water–oil displacement mechanisms involving "horizontal breakthrough via hyper-permeability" combined with vertical differentiation due to gravity occur in thick and heterogeneous reservoirs under spatial injection-production modes; (5) a relationship model linking economic profit with well pattern density was established for technical service contracts in the Middle East. Additionally, an innovative stepwise conversion composite well patterns approach was introduced for thick reservoirs to meet production ramp-up requirements while delaying water cut rise; (6) a prediction technology for the oilfield development index, considering asphaltene precipitation, has been successfully developed. These research findings provide robust support for the efficient development of the M oilfield in Iraq, while also serving as a valuable reference for similar reservoirs' development in the Middle East. This document is an editorial for a special issue of the journal Minerals, focusing on the heterogeneities of carbonate reservoirs. The editorial emphasizes the importance of understanding these heterogeneities for optimizing exploration and production strategies, as they influence fluid flow behavior and the recoverable reserves within the reservoir. The editorial also highlights the need for further research to explore the implications of heterogeneities at a broader scale and recommends the use of advanced technologies and multidisciplinary approaches. Crushed dolomite stone can be used as a part of concrete for hot weather. Fine dolomite as a filler is not commonly included in Portland cement. In this paper, the properties of a blended binder based on Portland cement and dolomite filler are presented. Dolomite filler was obtained from dust grains by mechanical activation in a laboratory ball mill to increase the specific surface area and its chemical activity. It is shown that the impact of mechanical activation allows to obtain dolomite filler with a median particle size of 1.4 μm and a specific surface area of 639.9 m2/kg. The content of dolomite filler in Portland cement was 10, 30 and 50%. The main properties of blended cements, i.e., the standard consistency, setting time, compressive strength, average density, and drying shrinkage, were determined on pastes. The mineralogical composition of the hydrated pastes was determined by XRD at 28 days. The presence of dolomite filler at levels higher than 10% decreases the compressive strength of blended cements. The dolomite filler decreases the water demand, shortens the setting time, and mitigates the development of drying shrinkage in the blended binder. To prevent concrete cracking, the application of dolomite filler in blended cement is relevant in hot weather due to its reduced drying shrinkage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work describes a procedure for building a high-quality 3D model of a rocky pinnacle in the Dolomites, Italy, using Structure from Motion (SfM) techniques. The pinnacle, known as "Campanile di Val Montanaia", is challenging to survey due to its high elevation and sub-vertical cliffs. The construction of the 3D model is the first step in a multi-disciplinary approach to characterize the rock mass and understand its behavior and evolution. This paper discusses the surveying operations, which involved climbing the pinnacle to collect Ground Control Points (GCPs) and using a UAV to capture aerial imagery. The photographs were processed using SfM software to generate point clouds, mesh, and texture, which were then used for rock mass discontinuity mapping. The study compares models of different qualities and point densities to determine the optimal trade-off between processing time and accuracy in terms of discontinuity mapping. The results show that higher quality models allow for more detailed mapping of discontinuities, with some drawbacks due to noise in the case of the densest solution (e.g., increase in frequency of outliers across the point cloud). These pros and cons are also discussed in relation to the computational cost necessary to build the models. The study also examines the limitations and challenges of performing discontinuity mapping in the different models, including subjectivity in interpretation. A further element of interest is the publication of a high-quality 3D georeferenced model of the "Campanile di Val Montanaia" to be used for several potential further applications, such as stability analyses and numerical modeling. The removal of hazardous heavy metals that have been released into the environment due to industrial activities has become an important issue in recent years. The presented study concerned the removal of copper(II) ions from aqueous solutions using dolomites. Dolomite is a very attractive adsorbent due to its wide availability, low cost, good adsorption, and environmental compatibility. The paper describes the properties of D-I and D-II dolomites from two different open-cast mines in Poland. The properties of natural adsorbents were determined based on point of zero charges (PZC), elemental analysis of the adsorbent composition, FT-IR, XRD, and SEM spectra analysis. Depending on the initial concentration of the solution used, the adsorption efficiency of copper(II) ions was 58–80% for D-I and 80–97% for D-II. The adsorption mechanism in the case of D-II dolomite was mainly based on ion exchange, while chemisorption dominated the D-I dolomite surface. Considering the possibility of the regeneration and reuse of the adsorbent, dolomite D-II is a better material (the desorption efficiency of copper(II) ions was 58–80%). The adsorption behavior of dolomites has been described using six adsorption isotherms. The best fit was obtained for the Redlich–Peterson, Jovanović, and Langmuir isotherms, indicating that monolayer adsorption occurred. Although archaeological excavations have recovered a large number of vessels used to hold perfumes or ointments in ancient Rome, little is known about the chemical composition or origin of the substances they contained. Most available information pertains to ointment and/or cosmetic bases rather than to essences. The discovery in 2019 of an ointment jar (unguentarium) made of rock crystal (quartz) that was sealed with a stopper and contained a solid mass in a Roman tomb in Carmona (Seville, Spain) was a rather unusual finding. This paper reports the results of an archaeometric study of the unguentarium stopper and its contents. Based on them, and on comparisons with commercially available patchouli and nard oil standards, the perfume held in the unguentarium was probably patchouli. To our knowledge, this may be the first time a perfume from Roman times has been identified, which is a major advance in this field. The unguentarium stopper consisted of dolomite, a material also unknown in this type of use, and bitumen was used to seal the unguentarium with the stopper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The formation timing of stylolites, which is of great importance for analyzing the controls of stylolites, has nearly never been examined. In this paper, based on the data of cores, imaging logging, conventional logging, and mercury injection, the characteristics of stylolites formed in different stages of tectonic movement were investigated, and the controlling factors of oil-stained stylolites, formed in the second period of tectonic movement, were analyzed in particular. Furthermore, the influence of different controlling factors on the development of stylolites was compared, by using grey correlation analysis. The results show that there are three periods of stylolites in the study area, and all three periods developed both low-angle stylolites and high-angle stylolites. The prominent characteristics of both the low-angle and high-angle stylolites of the second period, are being oil-stained. The higher the structural location, the greater the buried depth, the lower the dolomite content, the higher the calcite content, the higher the clay content, the smaller the rock density, the greater the porosity, the smaller the rock grain size, the easier it is to develop both the low-angle stylolites and the high-angle stylolites. The influence of different controlling factors on the development of low-angle stylolites is given by depth, porosity, curvature, rock density, rock grain size, clay content, dolomite content, and calcite content, in this order. The importance of the influences on the development of high-angle stylolites proceeds as follows: curvature, calcite content, depth, rock particle size, clay content, rock density, dolomite content, and porosity. Worldwide, the known recoverable heavy oil and bitumen reserves make up more than 64% of the total reserves, of which more than 60% are trapped in carbonates. Air injection has immense potential for hydrocarbon recovery from various reservoirs. While most of the successful air-based techniques are performed within carbonate reservoirs containing light oil, theoretically, in situ combustion (ISC) has also shown great potential for recovering heavy oil and bitumen. Carbonates are complex in terms of geology and are often associated with fractures and vugs that affect the fluid flow, pressure propagation and progression of the ISC reactions. This paper describes the first experiment in which the triple-porosity concept was applied to simulate heterogeneity through artificially induced vugs, core matrix and fractures. This approach was used to study the feasibility of the ISC recovery technique for heavy oil (14° API) within a dolomite reservoir using a combustion tube (CT) in an experiment performed at 1740 psig. The combustion front advanced through 78% of the core length prior to the termination of air injection, producing 80% of the initial oil. To differentiate between the various sources of the CO2 gas (a product of carbonate decomposition vs. the combustion reaction) the atomic ratios of (CO2 + CO)/CO = 6 and (CO2 + CO)/N2 = 0.21 were applied. The porosity and permeability of the rock surrounding lead–zinc deposits are key factors for controlling the migration and precipitation of ore-forming hydrothermal fluid. In this paper, the Huize super-large lead–zinc deposit was taken as the case study, and variations in the porosity and permeability of the wall rocks and their relationship with the orebody were analyzed by using CT scanning technology. The experimental results showed that the average pore radius of dolomite with a decreasing distance to the orebody ranged from 1.60 to 1.65 μm, increasing to 1.77~2.05 μm. The CT porosity increased from 2.76%–2.81% to 3.35%–3.99%. The average pore throat length decreased from 29.57–39.95 μm to 13.57–16.83 μm. In the research, it was found that the hydrothermal fluids rich in chemical elements changed the properties of the surrounding rocks. Temperature rise will lead to dolomitization of limestone and recrystallization of dolomite. This process led to an increase in the porosity of the wall rocks. During the formation of the orebody, the metal minerals in the hydrothermal fluid entered the pores of the rock. As a result, the pore radius and pore volume of the wall rocks were reduced, along with the pore throat radius and pore throat length. Therefore, the wall rock pores near the orebody were isolated from each other, and the permeability of the surrounding rock decreased. In the reverse flotation of fluorapatite and dolomite, high-efficiency depressors of fluorapatite have received considerable attention. In this paper, the depression mechanism of hydroxy ethylene diphosphonic acid (HEDP) was studied for the first time as a novel fluorapatite depressant on the surface of fluorapatite. The effect of HEDP on the flotation behavior of the two minerals was studied by single and mixed minerals in flotation tests. HEDP exhibited an excellent depression effect on fluorapatite flotation, whereas its adsorption on dolomite surface was minimal. Fluorapatite and dolomite were effectively separated by applying sodium oleate as a collector and HEDP as a depressant at pH 6.0. The depression mechanism of HEDP on fluorapatite was further analyzed via contact angle measurement, zeta potential and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic (XPS) analysis. We found that HEDP seriously hindered the adsorption of sodium oleate (NaOL) on the fluorapatite surface and had a minimal effect on the dolomite surface. XPS analysis results indicate that the strong adsorption of HEDP on the fluorapatite surface can be attributed to the strong chelation between the electron-rich groups of HEDP and Ca ions on the fluorapatite surface. The paper aims to understand the effect of light-burned dolomite powders (LBD) on ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and evaluate the influence of LBD dosages and fineness levels on the mechanical properties and hydration properties of OPC. The LBD/OPC pastes were prepared by OPC blended with LBD at various replacement dosages and fineness levels. The mechanical properties were studied by flexural and compressive strength tests, while the hydration properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and reaction degree of LBD. Experiment results indicated that the flexural and compressive strength of LBD/OPC samples were higher than reference sample at all ages. The fineness levels of LBD was C (C-LBD) with 0.5–1.5 wt% dosages, and the fineness levels of LBD was B (B-LBD) with 1.5–2.5 wt% dosages can significantly improve the strength of cement-based materials. The main mineral components of LBD are MgO and CaCO3, of which MgO could react with water to form Mg(OH)2 quickly, and CaCO3 could hydrate with C3A to from hydrated calcium carboaluminate (C3A·CaCO3·11H2O), which prevents the conversion of AFt to AFm. The structure and properties of the glass can be modified by introducing appropriate additives. Dolomite is one of the primary raw materials modifying the properties of glass, in which the essential component is calcium-magnesium double carbonate CaCO3∙MgCO3. The paper presents the research results on glasses obtained by smelting pure amphibolite and amphibolite modified with 10 and 20% dolomite additives. The raw material used was mined in the Poland region of Lower Silesia. The glass melting process was carried out in an electric furnace at 1450 °C for 2 h. The structure and properties of the glasses and crystallization products were determined by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy—Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). Viscosity and Vickers microhardness were also measured. It was found that the modification of amphibolite glass by adding dolomite affects the glasses' properties and structure. This paper presents a device used to measure and register temperature for long-term subsoil measurements in boreholes. The borehole of this study is located in Gijón (Asturias, Spain). The measurements were made through two fixed sets of sensors coupled to the geothermal pipe, constituting two independent installations: (a) a commercial device called "Hobo", which uses TMCx-HD-specific sensors based on resistors with variable resistance; and (b) a device built by this research group, which uses DS12B20 Maxim sensors, a bus 1-wire, and a recording device based on a conventional Arduino board. Temperature was registered every 5 min across several years. These measurements were used to thermally characterize the subsoil, determining the apparent thermal diffusivity, and to study the thermo-hydrogeology of the Lower Jurassic Gijón's formation made of Liassic limestones and dolomites. In this paper, the depositional environment, age, and tectonic context of the Sub-Himalayan Kuldana Formation are discussed in detail. To determine the Kuldana Formation's depositional environment, age, and tectonic setting, sedimentological, palaeontological, and petrographic investigations have been conducted accordingly. The Kuldana Formation lithologically consists of both siliciclastic and carbonate rocks. Petrographically, the Kuldana Formation's sandstone is divided into litharenite and feldspathic litharenite petrofacies. The sandstone plots on the QtFL and QmFLt suggest that the sandstone of the Kuldana Formation derived from a recycled orogen provenance field that developed during the collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates in the Lesser and Higher Himalayas. The plots in the diamond diagram further demonstrate that the detritus of the Kuldana Formation was derived from low and middle-to-upper rank metamorphic rocks of the Himalayas. Throughout the deposition of sandstone, paleo-climate conditions were semi-humid to semiarid. Dolostone and limestone are the two main types of carbonate rocks found in the Kuldana Formation. According to Dunham's Classification, the Kuldana Formation limestone is classified as mudstone, wackstone, and packstone. These petrofacies suggest that the limestone was deposited in an inner-outer ramp setting. The bioclasts include bivalves, brachiopods, crinoid, gastropods, Globigerinoides spp., Lockhartia pustulosa, miliolids, Nummulites atacicus, Nummulites discorbina, Nummulites mamillatus, Nummulites djodjokartae, Nummulites vascus, and ostracods suggesting that the age of Kuldana Formation is Middle Eocene-early Oligocene. The Kuldana Formation was deposited during the initial stages of the Himalayan Orogeny as a result of the Ceno-Tethys Ocean's regression and transgression, as revealed by a succession of siliciclastic and non-clastic rocks. Dolostone is widely distributed and commonly used as concrete aggregates. A large number of studies have shown that there are significant differences in the expansibility of different dolostones, and the key factors determining the expansibility of alkali carbonate rocks have not been clarified. In this paper, rocks were selected from five different geological ages: Jixianian, Cambrian, Ordovician, Devonian, and Triassic ages. The ordering degree and the content of MgCO3 of dolomites in rocks of different geological ages were determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The degree of dedolomitization reaction in rocks cured in 80 °C, 1 mol/L NaOH solution was determined by quantitative X-ray diffraction (QXRD). The morphology of dolomites in rocks was determined by a polarizing microscope. The products of the dedolomitization reaction were determined by field emission electron microscopy (FESEM-EDS). According to the test results, the following conclusions are drawn. There is a good positive correlation between ordering degree and the molar fraction of MgCO3 of dolomites. When the MgCO3 mole fraction of dolomites varies from 47.17% to 49.60%, the higher the MgCO3 mole fraction, the greater the ordering degree of dolomite. By analyzing the degree of the dedolomitization reaction of different dolostone powders cured at 80 °C in 1 mol/L NaOH solution, it is found that the older the geological age of dolostone, the slower the dedolomitization reaction rate and the lower the degree of dedolomitization reaction. The lower the ordering degree of dolomite crystal in the same geological age, the faster the rate of dedolomitization reaction and the higher the degree of dedolomitization reaction. Lower Cambrian Xiaoerblak Formation is one of the major exploration targets in Cambrian pre-salt Tarim Basin; however, the exploration breakthrough is restricted by insufficient understanding of its sedimentary evolution and reservoir genesis. In this paper, based on a systematic description of the outcrop in the Xiaoerblak section, northwestern Tarim Basin, some samples were selected for tests of stable carbon and oxygen isotopic compositions, strontium isotopic composition, order degree, trace and rare earth elements, U-Pb isotopic age and clumped isotope. It is found that the Xiaoerblak Formation mainly develops nine types of dolomites, i.e., laminated microbial dolomite, thrombolite dolomite, stromatolite dolomite, foamy microbial dolomite, grain dolomite, etc. According to the lithofacies associations, it can be divided into three members: Xi 1, Xi 2, and Xi 3, of which member Xi 2 is subdivided into three submembers. The characteristics of lithofacies assemblage formed bottom to top indicate that it can be described as a third-order sequence. The Xiaoerblak Formation was deposited in a nearshore shallow seawater environment characterized by high water salinity and temperature under a warm and humid climate during the Early Cambrian, giving rise to the sedimentary sequence of inner ramp lagoon, subtidal microbial mound shoal and tidal flat in the carbonate ramp setting from bottom to top. Its dolomitization occurred in the penecontemporaneous–shallow burial period when the temperature was relatively low and high-salinity seawater acted as the main dolomitizaiton fluid. The reservoir space mainly comprises primary microbial framework pores and vugs formed by the atmospheric freshwater dissolution. Reservoirs were controlled by lithofacies, high-frequency sequence boundary and early dolomitization. In this paper, the dolomitic limestone determined as alkali–carbonate-reactive by various methods is used as an aggregate. Inhibition experiments were carried out on the basis of the concrete microbar method (RILEM AAR-5 standard), in which 10%, 30%, and 50% fly ash and metakaolin were used to replace cement. Thermogravimetric–differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), and scanning electron microscopy–energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM-EDS) were used to analyze the inhibition mechanism of fly ash and metakaolin on ACR. The results show that the expansion of samples at the age of 28 days are less than 0.10% when the fly ash contents exceed 30% and the metakaolin contents exceed 10%, which proves that the ACR is inhibited effectively. Meanwhile, the Ca(OH)2 content of the samples was reduced and the pore structure of the samples was optimized after adding fly ash and metakaolin. The purpose of this paper is to analyze a modern and unique technological system producing common aggregates at the Imielin Dolomite Mine. The installation was built on the basis of inventions of AGH UST and consists of an impact crusher, innovative screens WSR and WSL, light fraction separator SEL and hard fraction separator SET, low-pressure hydrocyclone NHC and infrastructure. The study was carried out on the crusher and screen on the example of production of aggregates with grain size 8–16 mm from dolomite, granite, limestone, sandstone, and gravel. The main aim of this study was focused on the Method of testing alkali-carbonate reaction activity to avoid alkali-carbonate reaction damage. In this paper, the alkali-carbonate reaction activity and alkali-silica reaction activity of ten kinds of aggregates were determined and analysed by existing standards and methods, by making specimens with aggregates of 2.5–5 mm and 5–10 mm particle size, cured in 1 mol/L tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide solution at 60 °C and 80 °C. Tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide solution was used to exclude the expansion caused by alkali-silica reaction. Effects of aggregate particle size and curing temperature on the expansion of samples were systematically investigated to determine alkali-carbonate reactivity of aggregates. In order to explore the relationship between stress and strain of aggregates, these aggregates were prepared into compacted bodies to test their stress and try to discover the pattern. The results showed that the expansion of the mould specimen prepared by the aggregate of 5–10 mm particle size, cured in 1 mol/L tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide solution at 80 °C was greater than 0.1% after 42 days, which could be used as a reference criterion to determine the alkali-carbonate reaction activity of the aggregate. In addition, the expansion stress test suggest that the alkali-carbonate reaction can generate expansion stress. The expansion stress of aggregates with alkali-carbonate reaction activity were much larger than that of aggregates without alkali-carbonate reaction activity. Through SEM and EDX analysis of the products of the alkali-carbonate reaction, it was shown that the dolomite crystals in the dolomitic aggregates reacted with the TMAH solution and resulted in alkali-carbonate reaction, forming calcite and brucite. Karst water quality degradation has been a challenge for domestic and industrial water supplies worldwide. To reveal the possible factors response for karst water quality degradation, Baotu karst spring system is studied as an representative example. In this study, a hydrogeochemical investigation and mathematical, statistical, and geochemical modeling was conducted together to identify the major hydrochemical processes involved in the degradation process. It is found that the karst water is normally fresh, neutral-to-slightly alkaline, with calcium and magnesium as the predominant cations, and bicarbonate and sulfate as the predominant anions. The abnormally high chloride (95.05 mg/L) and nitrate concentrations (148.4 mg/L) give clues to the potential source of contamination in some karst water. The main hydrochemical facies of karst water are HCO3-Ca and HCO3 × SO4-Ca, accounting for 76% of water samples. The water hydrochemistry is controlled mainly by the dissolution of carbonate minerals (calcite, dolomite), followed by the dissolution of silicate and gypsum. The dissolution of calcite and dolomite mostly happens in the recharge area. In the discharge area, the karst water is basically in equilibrium with calcite. The negative SI value of gypsum represents that the water–gypsum interaction is dominated by dissolution along the whole flow path. Cation exchange is observed in the karst water in the indirect recharge area. Along the flow path, the contents of chloride, sulfate, nitrate, and TDS (Total dissolved solids, abbreviated TDS, indicates how many milligrams of dissolved solids are dissolved in one liter of water) vary significantly, which is mostly affected by pollution from human industrial and agricultural activities. The concentrations of major ions were maintained at a low level (<20 mg/L) in the 1960s in karst water. The fast elevation of the parameter values has occurred in the past two decades. The temporal elevation of some pollutants in karst water suggest that global changes (acid rain) and human activity (such as overusing fertilizer) are main factors resulting in the degradation of karst water quality in the study area. The analysis of the main factors of brittleness is an important basis for the selection of engineering desserts in shale oil reservoirs. In this study, with the shale oil reservoir of the Liushagang Formation in the X Depression of the Beibuwan Basin as the research object, a characterization and analysis of the main factors of brittleness of the reservoir was performed in order to further reveal the brittleness of shale reservoirs in the study area. The brittleness of reservoirs in the study area was controlled by both internal and external factors, and the main factors of brittleness in the target section included the maturity of organic matter, horizontal stress difference, and brittle minerals. As the maturity of organic matter increased, the density, elastic modulus, and hardness of casein increased and the differentially hardened internal structure occurred and significantly affected brittleness. The mineral composition of the reservoir was characterized by complex mineral types and high contents of brittle minerals, and the minerals determining brittleness were mainly quartz, feldspar, calcite, and dolomite. The horizontal stress difference of the shale oil section was relatively small and contributed to fracturing and reforming. This study clarified the brittleness characteristics of E2l shale and its main factors, and provided a basis for the selection of shale formation geo-engineering dessert layers in the study area. The EN280 Leba Road is a mountain road that runs along the western slope of Serra da Leba (Humpata Plateau) and its outstanding escarpments, connecting the hinterland areas of the Province of Huila to the coastal Atlantic Province of Namibe, in Southwest Angola. In the Serra da Leba ranges, as in Humpata Plateau, a volcano-sedimentary succession of Paleo-Mesoproterozoic age known as the Chela Group outcrops extensively. This main unit records a pile of sediments with a thickness over 600 m, overlying a cratonic basement with Eburnean and pre-Eburnean granitoids. This sequence is overlain in unconformity by the Leba Formation, which consists of weakly deformed cherty dolostones rich in stromatolites. Along the EN280 Leba Road, in the downward direction, were inventoried and characterized eight sites that, by their exceptional geological content and the singularity of their geoforms, are worth being defined and formalized as geosites: (1) traditional mining clay pit in the Humpata Plateau (post-Eburnean Paleo-Mesoproterozoic claystones); (2) old lime oven of Leba (post-Eburnean Meso-Neoproterozoic cherty dolostones with stromatolites); (3) viewpoint of the Serra da Leba (post-Eburnean Paleo-Mesoproterozoic volcano-sedimentary formations and Eburnean Paleoproterozoic granitoids); (4) vertical beds at the beginning of the descent (post-Eburnean Paleo-Mesoproterozoic volcano-sedimentary formations); (5) slope of the fault propagation fold (post-eburnean Paleo-Mesoproterozoic volcano-sedimentary formations); (6) reverse fault in granitoid rocks (Eburnean Paleoproterozoic granitoids); (7) Dolerite Curve (Eburnean Paleoproterozoic granitoids and dolerites); (8) ductile simple shear zone (Eburnean Paleoproterozoic granitoids and mylonites). These sites were primarily selected using the results of fieldwork (observations, measurements, reproduction of representations, and creation of models), interpretation of remote sensing data, and data from previously published bibliographies and cartography. A quantitative assessment of the selected sites to be preserved through their classification as geosites (integration in a geoconservation strategy) was proposed. The first position in the numerical assessment is occupied by the landscape dimension geosite "Viewpoint of the Serra da Leba". This position is conferred, mainly, by its high geological, use, and Management values, being therefore considered the place with the highest geoheritage value in the studied area. Based on the previous characterization and evaluation, several field activities were proposed to be included in a guidebook, highlighting aspects such as landscapes, outcrops, rocks, structures, fossils, and georesources. The high scientific, didactic, and aesthetic values of these geological contexts and their high degree of geodiversity justify their integration into a geoeducational transect, contributing to the appreciation and awareness of the geological heritage of Serra da Leba, as well as to its promotion and scientific and educational dissemination. The genesis of deep-to-ultra-deep dolomite reservoirs in the Tarim Basin is crucial for exploration and development. The Cambrian subsalt dolomite reservoirs in the Tarim Basin are widely distributed, marking significant prospects for ultra-deep reservoir exploration. Based on big data methodologies, this study collects and analyzes porosity and permeability data of carbonate reservoirs in the western Tarim Basin, specifically targeting the Cambrian deep-oil and gas-reservoir research. Through an examination of the sedimentary evolution and distribution of carbonate–evaporite sequences, and considering sedimentary facies, stratigraphic sediment thickness, fault zone distribution, and source-reservoir assemblages as primary reference factors, the study explores the macro-distribution patterns of porosity and permeability, categorizing three favorable reservoir zones. The controlling factors for the development of Cambrian carbonate reservoirs on the western part of the Tarim Basin are analyzed from the perspectives of sedimentary and diagenetic periods. Factors such as tectonic activity, depositional environment, microbial activity, and pressure dissolution are analyzed to understand the main causes of differences in porosity and permeability distribution. Comprehensive analysis reveals that the porosity and permeability of the Series2 carbonate reservoirs are notably high, with extensive distribution areas, particularly in the Bachu–Tazhong and Keping regions. The geological pattern of "Three Paleo-uplifts and Two Depressions" facilitated the formation of inner-ramp and intra-platform shoals, creating conducive conditions for the emergence of high-porosity reservoirs. The characteristics of reservoir development are predominantly influenced by diagenetic and tectonic activities. The Miaolingian is chiefly affected by diagenesis, featuring high permeability but lower porosity and smaller distribution range; dolomitization, dissolution, and filling processes under a dry and hot paleoclimate significantly contribute to the formation and preservation of reservoir spaces. In the Furongian, the Keping and Bachu areas display elevated porosity and permeability levels, along with substantial sedimentary thickness. The conservation and development of porosity within thick dolomite sequences are mainly governed by high-energy-particulate shallow-shoal sedimentary facies and various dissolution actions during diagenesis, potentially indicating larger reserves. The use of mineral reinforcements in polymer matrix composites has emerged as an alternative for sustainable production, reducing waste and enhancing the physical and mechanical properties of these materials. This study investigated the impact of the melt flow index (MFI) of HDPE and the particle size of two mineral reinforcements, Bahia Beige (BB) and Rio Grande do Norte Limestone (CRN), on the composites. All composites were processed via extrusion, followed by injection, with the addition of 30 wt.% reinforcement. Chemical analyses revealed similar compositions with high CaO content for both minerals, while X-ray diffraction (XRD) identified predominantly calcite, dolomite, and quartz phases. Variations in the MFI, reinforcement type, and particle size showed a minimal influence on composite properties, supported by robust statistical analyses that found no significant differences between groups. Morphological analysis indicated that composites with lower MFI exhibited less porous structures, whereas larger particles of BB and CRN formed clusters, affecting impact resistance, which was attributed to poor interfacial adhesion. This study investigates the impact of dissolved carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and agar on the dolomitization reaction of calcite at 200 °C. Previous studies have suggested that CMC and agar promote dolomite precipitation at room temperature. However, this study found that their decomposition products hinder the reaction at 200 °C, with uncertainty about their role at other temperatures. The inhibitory effect of the decomposition products could be attributed to their adsorption onto calcite surfaces, which hinders their dissolution. This results in a longer reaction induction period and replacement period. Regression analysis demonstrates that the 0.1 g/L agar and 0.2 g/L CMC series decrease the cation ordering rate of dolomite produced from synthetic calcite when compared with series without polysaccharides. In contrast, the 0.1 g/L CMC series shows a slight increase in the cation ordering rate compared with series without polysaccharides. The findings of this study suggest a notable potential impact of the decomposition products of polysaccharides on the ordering of dolomite, although it is uncertain whether they inhibit this ordering process. The inhibitory effect observed in the decomposition products of CMC and agar could also exist in the decomposition products of the extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and bacteria cell walls found in sedimentary rocks during burial diagenesis. The Middle Atlas hosts calcite veins of considerable economic value, being found in the Mahdi and Bou Naceur ridges in the eastern part of the Moroccan Middle Atlas. In this study, we aim to identify the fundamental factors controlling mineralization, which could be essential for the exploration of calcite minerals. Jurassic dolomites and limestones host calcite deposits. Mineralization is controlled by the NE-SW sinistral fault system of the Mahdi Ridge as well as by the NW-SE dextral fault system of the Bou Naceur Ridge. These veins exhibit a Riedel shear system. The edges of the veins display different textures, such as banded and brecciated calcite. At the heart of the veins are deposits of massive, automorphic, pure crystalline calcite. Geochemical analyses revealed carbonate rock dissolution and carbonate fluid infiltration, indicating the presence of a low-temperature hydrothermal system. These mineralizations are a response to the evolution of the geodynamic uplift of the Middle Atlas during the Neogene, which occurred during the Alpine orogeny. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The synergistic effect of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) on the flotation separation of magnesite and dolomite using sodium oleate (NaOL) as a collector has been studied through flotation experiments, zeta potential measurements, contact angle measurements, Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy analysis (FT-IR), particle size measurements and transmittance measurements. The flotation experiments show that when the synergist, SDBS, is added to the collector, NaOL, the collecting ability and ion resistance of NaOL can be improved so that the flotation separation of magnesite and dolomite can be realized. Zeta potential measurements, contact angle measurements and FT-IR analysis indicate that SDBS and NaOL can co-adsorb on the surface of magnesite. Particle size measurements and transmittance measurements show that SDBS can also improve the dispersion and solubility of NaOL in an aqueous solution, so as to achieve a synergistic effect. Expansion damage in medium–low reactivity dolomite limestone poses significant challenges in construction and engineering projects. This study investigates the potential of fly ash in inhibiting expansion damage in such limestone formations based on RILEM AAR-5 method. Through a series of laboratory experiments, various proportions of fly ash instead of cement, respectively, were prepared and subjected to varying alkali content conditions immersion tests to simulate expansion conditions. The expansion rates and extents were monitored and compared between pure limestone samples and those mixed with different proportions of fly ash. Additionally, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis was employed to investigate the microstructure of the dolomite limestone–fly ash mixtures to understand the inhibition mechanisms. Results indicate that fly ash demonstrates promising inhibitory effects on expansion damage in medium–low reactivity dolomite limestone across the addition of 40% fly ash and alkali content of 0.70%. The reaction products are calcite, brucite, and a mixture of Mg-Si-Al phases and the reaction area is within 100 μm from the boundary when the cement alkali content is 1.50% without any fly ash. However, no reaction products were found at the boundary after adding 40% fly ash when lowering the cement alkali content to 0.70%. This research contributes to a better understanding of the interaction between fly ash and dolomite limestone in inhibiting expansion damage, providing valuable insights for engineering applications. It is beneficial in terms of the theoretical significance and application prospects to define the structure and reservoir development model of the lower Paleozoic unconformity in the Jiyang Depression of Bohai Bay Basin, China, for oil and gas exploration of unconformity in carbonate strata. Geological and geochemical evidence shows that a regional unconformity formed during the Huaiyuan Movement in the lower Paleozoic strata of the Jiyang Depression. Along the top of the regional unconformity between the Yeli Liangjiashan Formation and Fengshan Formation, various types of karst breccia have developed, showing prominent characteristics of development and vertical karst zonation. The paleokarst zone can be divided into the vadose zone and the underflow zone, and there are apparent differences between the two zones in terms of the mode of karst activity and type of reservoir space. Primitive sedimentary microfacies, dolomitization, and supergene karstification controlled the reservoirs of the Fengshan Formation and Yeli-Liangjiashan Formation. There are significant differences in the original physical properties due to the differences in the original sedimentary microfacies. The pore development of granular dolomite of high-energy beach facies has the best reservoir performance. In the later period, the superposition of dolomitization and supergene karstification resulted in apparent differences in karst development mode, development intensity, reservoir type, and reservoir physical properties. Among them, the granular dolomite reservoir has the best physical properties and has developed a cavity-type reservoir that has a planar distribution along an unconformity surface. Seismic reflection data and implicitly sonic velocity are undoubtedly the most important source of information for large-scale subsurface characterization. Yet, deriving reservoir and fluid flow properties from acoustic data is still challenging in carbonates, which display large acoustic velocity variations that contest many of the conventional assumptions regarding wave propagation in porous media. In this comprehensive study on 370 carbonate samples (247 limestones and 123 dolomites), we re-evaluate the impact of mineral velocity on bulk rock acoustic properties of dolomite and limestone by assessing the link between sonic velocity and the rock's pore geometry. We quantify pore size and pore network complexity using parameters from both digital image analysis (DIA) and the extended Biot theory (EBT). We then compare DIA and EBT parameters to assess the impact of pore network geometry versus mineral velocity on the acoustic velocity of carbonate rocks. We explore the usefulness of EBT parameter γk in improving permeability estimates. Published values of velocity indicate that dolomites exhibit higher velocities than limestones at any given porosity. Our laboratory measurements of acoustic velocity, however, reveal that both dolomites and limestones show extreme variations in sonic velocities where samples with compressional velocity of ~5000 m/s may range in porosity from 5% to 25% and samples with porosity of ~20% may range in velocity from ~4000 m/s to 5700 m/s. Through the quantitative assessment of the pore network in our samples we document that pore network geometry has much more impact on the acoustic velocity of carbonates than variations in mineralogy, in this case dolomite and calcite. Most of the dolostone samples studied are dominated by small pores, resulting in relatively low velocities for their given porosity, while limestones with similar velocity–porosity values often possess simpler pore networks with larger pores. This pore size difference offsets the faster velocity of dolomite. The extended Biot theory parameter γk, captures this variation in pore size and internal geometry and exhibits a strong correlation to specific surface. Moreover, γk captures the impact of internal pore geometry on acoustic velocity, providing the basis for challenging existing assumptions regarding the importance of mineral velocity. By quantifying internal geometry, γk can improve permeability estimates in reservoir characterization and enhance evaluations of producibility and injectability. The depletion of ore deposits, the increasing demand for raw materials, the need to process low-grade, complex and finely disseminated ores, and the reprocessing of tailings are challenges especially for froth flotation separation technologies. Even though they are capable of handling relatively fine grain sizes, the flotation separation of very fine and ultrafine particles faces many problems still. Further, the flotation of low-contrast semi-soluble salt-type minerals with very similar surface properties, many complex interactions between minerals, reagents and dissolved species often result in poor selectivity. This study investigates the flotation beneficiation of ultrafine magnesite rich in dolomite from desliming, currently reported to the tailings. The paper especially focuses on the impact of the depressant sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) on the following: (i) the froth properties using dynamic froth analysis (DFA), (ii) the separation between magnesite and dolomite/calcite, and (iii) its effect on the entrainment. As a depressant/dispersant, SHMP has a beneficial impact on the flotation separation between magnesite and dolomite. However, there is a trade-off between grade and recovery, and as well as the dewatering process which needs to be considered. When the SHMP increases from 200 g/t to 700 g/t, the magnesite grade increases from 67% to 77%, while recovery decreases massively, from 80% to 40%. The open circuit with four cleaning stages obtained a concentrate assaying 77.5% magnesite at a recovery of 45.5%. The dolomite content in the concentrate is about 20%, where 80% of dolomite was removed and importantly 98% of the quartz was removed, with only 0.3% of the quartz in the final concentrate. Furthermore, the application of 1-hydroxyethylene-1,1-diphosphonic acid (HEDP) as a more environmentally friendly and low-cost alternative to SHMP is presented and discussed. Using only 350 g/t of HEDP can achieve a similar grade (76.3%), like 700 g/t of SHMP (76.9%), while obtaining a 17% higher magnesite recovery as compared to 700 g/t of SHMP. Interestingly, the proportion of hydrophilic quartz minerals ending up in the concentrate is lower for HEDP, with only 1.9% quartz at a recovery of 21.5% compared to the 2.7% of quartz at a recovery of 24.9% when using SHMP. Seventy-one pumping tests were carried out in various dolomites, revealing two of the less-studied hydrogeological parameters related to double-porosity flow: the interporosity flow coefficient λ and the ratio between storage in the fractures and storage in the whole system (ω). Conceptually, they are both tied to the flow properties of the fractures and matrix and define the communication between these two hydrogeological domains. Five different groups of dolomites were included in this study, with different diagenesis types, crystal sizes, bed thicknesses, fracture intensities and chert contents represented. The results of both parameters reflect variations in the sedimentological and resulting hydrogeological properties of dolomites. The largest values of the interporosity flow coefficient λ (6.53 × 10−1) are found in dolomites formed by late diagenesis, exhibiting the highest degree of fracturing, resulting in fast responses in fractures and large λ values. The values of the storage ratio ω also vary (the range of most values is from 3.32 × 10−4 to 2.14 × 10−1), with the overall range almost completely filling all the theoretical limits from zero to one. The greatest values of ω are found in dolomites with the largest storage, due to the large number of small fractures, and silica diagenesis probably reduces the matrix storage. The hydrogeological conditions of Huainan Coalfield are complex. The Taiyuan formation limestone water (Taihui water) in this area is a direct threat to the water source of the 1# coal mining floor. In order to prevent and control water disasters, Gubei Coal Mine adopted ground high-pressure grouting with fly ash cement to block the hydraulic connection between the Taiyuan formation limestone aquifer and the Ordovician limestone aquifer. However, the injected slurry will destroy the original hydrochemical balance of Taihui water and change its hydrochemical characteristics. Taking the influence area of the 2# karst collapse column in the Beiyi 1# coal mining area of Gubei Coal Mine as an example, a total of 25 Taihui water samples were collected. The hydrochemical characteristics and evolution law of Taihui water before and after grouting are studied via the multivariate statistical method. The research methods include constant index statistics, Piper diagram, correlation analysis, ion combination ratio, and saturation index analysis. The results show that after grouting, the concentrations of Na+ + K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, and Cl− in Taihui water decrease, while the concentrations of SO42− and HCO3− increase. The average values of PH and TDS become larger. The hydrochemical types of Taihui water are more concentrated, mainly HCO3-Na and Cl-Na. The correlations between conventional indicators decrease. According to the analysis of ion combination ratio, dissolution, cation exchange, and pyrite oxidation mainly occur in Taihui water, and these effects are enhanced after grouting. The saturation index results show that after grouting, the saturation index of dolomite, calcite, and gypsum is significantly reduced, and the saturation index of rock salt is slightly increased. The conclusion of this study is that the hydrochemical characteristics of Taihui water are greatly affected by fly ash cement. Moreover, because fly ash cement contains a lower calcium oxide content than ordinary Portland cement, the effect of fly ash cement on the ion concentration of Taihui water and the resulting hydrogeochemical effect are significantly different. The conductivity of acid-etched fractures and the subsequent production response are influenced by the injection mode of the fracturing fluid and acid fluid during acid fracturing in a carbonate reservoir. However, there has been a lack of comprehensive and systematic experimental research on the impact of commonly used injection modes in oilfields on conductivity, which directly affects the optimal selection of acid-fracturing injection modes. To address this gap, the present study focuses on underground rock samples, acid systems, and fracturing fluid obtained from ultra-deep carbonate reservoirs in the Fuman Oilfield. Experimental investigations were conducted to examine the conductivity of hydraulic fractures etched by various types of acid fluids under five different injection modes: fracturing fluid + self-generating acid or cross-linked acid; fracturing fluid + self-generating acid + cross-linked acid. The findings demonstrate that the implementation of multi-stage alternating acid injection results in the formation of communication channels, vugular pore space, and natural micro-cracks, as well as grooves and fish-scales due to enhanced etching effects. The elevation change, amount of dissolved rock, and conductivity exhibited by rock plates are significantly higher in comparison to those achieved through the single-acid injection mode while maintaining superior conductivity. It is recommended for optimal conductivity and retention rate in the Fuman Oilfield to adopt two stages of alternating acid-fracturing injection mode. Nephrite is a very precious gemstone material. As a non-renewable resource, the discovery of new nephrite deposits and the study of the genesis of nephrite have aroused great interest. A new occurrence of nephrite known as Xinyu nephrite was discovered in Xinyu Country, Jiangxi province, China. Field investigations reveal that nephrite appears in a contact zone between the Mengshan composite granitic pluton and Permian carbonate rock. The carbonate rock is calcic marble that underwent diopsidization and tremolitization. Nephrites have a light yellow-green color, weak greasy luster, are slightly-translucent to translucent, and are fine-grained. Their refractive index (RI) ranges from 1.60 to 1.61, and their specific gravity (SG) value ranges from 2.90 to 2.91, falling within the range of nephrites from Xinjiang, China. Their Mohs hardness (Hm) ranges from 5.78 to 5.83. Petrographic observations and electron probe micro analyzer (EPMA) data indicated that analyzed nephrites mainly comprise tremolite, with minor diopside, calcite, quartz, and apatite. Tremolite has a ratio of Mg/(Mg + Fe2+) greater than 0.99. The tremolite grains show microscopic fibrous-felted and columnar textures. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images show some tremolite fibers interwoven in different crystallographic orientations, and some arranged in parallel. Fourier transform infrared and Raman spectroscopy features reveal the bands of minerals typical for nephrite composition. The petrographic characteristics and geological background of the Mengshan area indicate that nephrite formed through a replacement of calcic marble, which differs from the two known types (D-type: dolomite-related; S-type: serpentinite-related). Mineral replacements were common in nephrite, including diopside by tremolite, calcite by tremolite, and recrystallization of coarse by fine tremolite grains. Mudstone compaction is widely used in the estimation of subsidence caused by sediment load, basin modeling, and overpressure genesis. The boundary for the depth at which chemical compaction in mudstones begins in the Xihu Depression is across two wells; in Well A, the depth is 2200 m, while in Well D, it is 1750 m. The porosity shows a gradual decreasing trend, followed by a sharp decrease and then an increase. Compared with Well A, the pores in Well D show a faster reduction (resulting in higher compaction) with increasing burial depth. The compaction process is controlled by clay mineral transformation and temperature increase. At a temperature range of 65–105 °C, local dissolution of quartz and pyrite, as well as precipitation of plagioclase, occur in Well D. The quartz, pyrite, and plagioclase contents in Well A do not significantly change, while K-feldspar corrosion and illitization are dominant. At a temperature range of 125–135 °C, diagenesis is reversed. The mixed layer increases across a low range, while chlorite and kaolinite contents increase; the dissolution of dolomite and the intermittent dissolution of calcite cause a local increase in pore size at 4460 m in Well A and 3300 m in Well D. The report values of geothermal gradient raise the depth limit of chemical compaction in Well D compared to that in Well A, thus accelerating the process of illitization and the cementation rate of quartz, and becoming the leading cause of the steeply decreasing trend of porosity in Well D. A compaction model for the Xihu Depression has also been established, which involves mechanical compaction, coexistence of chemical compaction and mechanical compaction, and chemical compaction. In the chemical compaction stage, the chemical/diagenetic compaction of mudstones locally increases the pore size. Flotation separation of magnesite from dolomite in the presence of SSZS (sodium silicate modified with zinc sulfate) as an inhibitor and NaOL (sodium oleate) as a collector has been studied via flotation tests, zeta potential measurements, contact angle measurements, and Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy analysis (FT-IR). The flotation tests show that NaOL has strong collecting capacity in magnesite and dolomite flotation, so it is difficult to separate two minerals via flotation without inhibitors. SSZS is used as the depressant, which can selectively inhibit dolomite flotation and has little depression effect on magnesite. Zeta potential measurements, contact angle measurements, and FT-IR analysis indicate that SSZS can adsorb strongly onto dolomite's surface and has a weak adsorption effect on magnesite. The adsorption of SSZS prevents NaOL from acting on the surface of dolomite. Lacustrine sedimentary formations potentially contain hydrocarbons. The lacustrine sedimentary rocks of the Ziliujung and Xintiangou Formations have been investigated for their hydrocarbon potential using low-pressure nitrogen adsorption (LP-N2A), low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), total organic carbon (TOC), rock-eval pyrolysis (Rock-Eval), gas chromatography (GC), gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The results show that the normalized difference of the pore parameters between the two formations is less than 10%, and the pores are mainly slit-like mesopores with high porosity. Macropores and micropores are often developed in the quartz skeleton, while mesopores often occur among organic matter, clay minerals, carbonate minerals, and pyrite particles. The organic matter abundance of the Ziliujing Formation is relatively high. Additionally, the organic matter types of the two formations are mainly type II and type III, and the sources of the organic matter are plankton and bacteria which have reached the mature gas production stage. The palaeoenvironmental differences between the depositional periods of the two formations lie within 10% of each other. The warm and humid climate promotes the development of quartz minerals to further enhance the proportion of both micropores and macropores, and the clay minerals, carbonate minerals, and pyrite carried in the terrigenous detritus are closely associated with the total organic carbon (TOC), which promotes the development of mesopores to enhance the porosity. The reservoir, organic matter, and palaeoenvironmental characteristics of fine-grained sedimentary rocks in the two formations are similar, and both of them have good potential for development. A total of 18 samples of shallow groundwater around the Hancheng mining area in the Guanzhong Basin were collected from 1–4 May 2018. According to the analysis of hydrochemical data, the Gibbs semi-logarithmic diagram and Piper diagram were used to research the hydrogeochemical behavior of shallow groundwater around the Hancheng mining area in the Guanzhong Basin. The results of the groundwater hydrochemical analyses shown on the Gibbs and Piper plots are as follows: The chemical composition analysis showed that the main cation components were Mg2+, Ca2+, Na+, and K+, the anion components were HCO3−, Cl−, and SO42−. A measure of 89% of the groundwater samples in this area were freshwater, the HCO3− were mainly dolomite, calcite, and gypsum dissolved precipitation resulted. Na+ and Cl− came from the dissolution of halite. Most of the groundwater was of the SO4·Cl-Ca·Mg type, accounting for 61.1%. The main ion chemistry of the shallow groundwater in this area is controlled by rock weathering, and pyrite oxidation is a significant factor affecting the SO42− concentration. The potential of the supercritical antisolvent micronization (SAS) technique was evaluated for the production of CaO-based particles with a size and a physical structure that could enable high performance for CO2 capture through the calcium looping process. Two sources of calcium derivative compounds were tested, waste marble powder (WMP) and dolomite. The SAS micronization of the derivate calcium acetate was carried out at 60 °C, 200 bar, a 0.5 mL min−1 flow rate of liquid solution, and 20 mg mL−1 concentration of solute, producing, with a yield of more than 70%, needle-like particles. Moreover, since dolomite presents with a mixture of calcium and magnesium carbonates, the influence of the magnesium fraction in the SAS micronization was also assessed. The micronized mixtures with lower magnesium content (higher calcium fraction) presented needle-like particles similar to WMP. On the other hand, for the higher magnesium fractions, the micronized material was similar to magnesium acetate micronization, presenting sphere-like particles. The use of the micronized material in the Ca-looping processes, considering 10 carbonation-calcination cycles under mild and realistic conditions, showed that under mild conditions, the micronized WMP improved CaO conversion. After 10 cycles the micronization, WMP presented a conversion 1.8 times greater than the unprocessed material. The origin of the carbonatites that appear on Earth is one of the most controversial current topics in the petrogenesis of igneous rocks. Situated in the northern sector of the Basal Complex of Fuerteventura (Canary Islands), the Miocene Esquinzo ultra-alkaline plutonic rock complex is composed of pyroxenites, melteigites-ijolites-urtites, malignites-nepheline syenites, carbonatites, silicocarbonatites, nephelinites and nepheline phonolites. This work tries to establish the genesis of this massif of ultra-alkaline rocks with associated carbonatites from Fuerteventura (which are very rare in the oceans). The geochemical characteristics of these rocks and the minerals that are included in them have allowed us to establish their origin. This complex was generated by three successive magmatic events associated with differentiation of melanephelinite magmas emplaced in the oceanic crust. Silicocarbonatite and calciocarbonatite (sövites) dykes are related to the first magmatic event and were formed by fractional crystallization of H2O- and CO2-rich ijolite magmas. The melanephelinite magmas that formed these plutonic ultra-alkaline rocks were apparently generated as partial melts of asthenospheric mantle, which assimilated enriched lithospheric mantle material as they ascended. The upwelling of this large body of anomalous asthenospheric Miocene material exceeded the deformation associated with plate motions and led to an oceanic rifting event in Fuerteventura. Numerical simulation is a commonly employed technique for studying carbon dioxide (CO2) storage processes in porous media, particularly saline aquifers. It enables the representation of diverse trapping mechanisms and the assessment of CO2 retention capacity within the subsurface. The intricate physicochemical phenomena involved necessitate the incorporation of multiphase flow, accurate depiction of fluid and rock properties, and their interactions. Among these factors, geochemical reaction rates and mechanisms are pivotal for successful CO2 trapping in carbonate reactive rocks. However, research on kinetic parameters and the influence of lithology on CO2 storage remains limited. This limitation is partly due to the challenges faced in laboratory experiments, where the time scale of the reactions and the lack of in situ conditions hinder accurate measurement of mineral reaction rates. This study employs proxy models constructed using response surfaces calibrated with simulation results to address uncertainties associated with geochemical reactions. Monte Carlo simulation is utilized to explore a broader range of parameters and identify influential factors affecting CO2 mineralization. The findings indicate that an open database containing kinetic parameters can support uncertainty assessment. Additionally, the proxy models effectively represent objective functions related to CO2 injectivity and mineralization, with calcite dissolution playing a predominant role. pH, calcite concentration, and CO2 injection rate significantly impact dolomite precipitation, while quartz content remains unaffected. Rockfalls can cause loss of life and material damage. In Northern Morocco, rockfalls and rock avalanche-deposits are frequent, especially in the Dorsale Calcaire morpho-structural unit, which is mostly formed by Jurassic limestone and dolostone formations. In this study, we focus exclusively on its northern segment, conventionally known as "the Haouz subunit". First, a rockfall inventory was conducted. Then, two datasets were prepared: one covering exclusively the source area and the other representing the entirety of the mass movements (source + propagation area). Two algorithms were then used to build rockfall susceptibility models (RSMs). The first one (Logistic Regression: LR) yielded the most unreliable results, where the RSM derived from the source area dataset significantly outperformed the one based on the entirety of the rockfall affected area, despite the lack of significant visual differences between both models. However, the RSMs produced using Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) were more or less similar in terms of accuracy, despite the source area model being more conservative. This result is unexpected given the fact that previous studies proved the robustness of the LR algorithm and the sensitivity of ANN models. However, we believe that the non-linear correlation between the spatial distribution of the rockfall propagation area and that of the conditioning factors used to compute the models explains why modeling rockfalls in particular differs from other types of landslides.
