In the process of coal mining, one of the main reasons for the high labor intensity of workers and the frequent occurrence of casualties is the low level of intelligence of coal mining equipment. As the core equipment in the process of coal mining, the intelligence level of shearers directly affects the safety production and mining efficiency of coal mines. Coal and rock recognition technology is the core technology used to realize the intelligentization of shearers, which is an urgent technical problem to be solved in the field of coal mining. In this paper, coal seam images, rock stratum images, and coal–rock mixed-layer images of a coal mining area are taken as the research object, and key technologies such as the construction of a sample image library, classification and recognition, and semantic segmentation are studied by using the relevant theoretical knowledge of artificial neural network models. Firstly, the BP neural network is used to classify and identify coal seam images, rock stratum images, and coal–rock mixed-layer images, so as to distinguish which of the current mining targets of a shearer is the coal seam, rock stratum, or coal–rock mixed layer. Because different mining objectives will lead to different working modes of a shearer, it is necessary to maintain normal power to cut coal when encountering a coal seam, to stop working when encountering rock stratum, and to cut coal along the boundary between a coal seam and rock stratum when encountering a coal–rock mixed stratum. Secondly, the DeepLabv3+ model is used to perform semantic segmentation experiments on the coal–rock mixed-layer images. The purpose is to find out the distribution of coal and rocks in the coal–rock mixed layer in the coal mining area, so as to provide technical support for the automatic adjustment height of the shearer. Finally, the research in this paper achieved a 97.16% recognition rate in the classification and recognition experiment of the coal seam images, rock stratum images, and coal–rock mixed-layer images and a 91.2% accuracy in the semantic segmentation experiment of the coal–rock mixed-layer images. The accurate prediction of heavy precipitation in convective environments is crucial because such events, often occurring in Italy during the summer and fall seasons, can be a threat for people and properties. In this paper, we analyse the impact of satellite-derived surface-rainfall-rate data assimilation on the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model's precipitation prediction, considering 15 days in summer 2022 and 17 days in fall 2022, where moderate to intense precipitation was observed over Italy. A 3DVar realised at CNR-ISAC (National Research Council of Italy, Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate) is used to assimilate two different satellite-derived rain rate products, both exploiting geostationary (GEO), infrared (IR), and low-Earth-orbit (LEO) microwave (MW) measurements: One is based on an artificial neural network (NN), and the other one is the operational P-IN-SEVIRI-PMW product (H60), delivered in near-real time by the EUMETSAT HSAF (Satellite Application Facility in Support of Operational Hydrology and Water Management). The forecast is verified in two periods: the hours from 1 to 4 (1–4 h phase) and the hours from 3 to 6 (3–6 h phase) after the assimilation. The results show that the rain rate assimilation improves the precipitation forecast in both seasons and for both forecast phases, even if the improvement in the 3–6 h phase is found mainly in summer. The assimilation of H60 produces a high number of false alarms, which has a negative impact on the forecast, especially for intense events (30 mm/3 h). The research on baggage flow plays a pivotal role in achieving the efficient and intelligent allocation and scheduling of airport service resources, as well as serving as a fundamental element in determining the design, development, and process optimization of airport baggage handling systems. This paper examines baggage checked in by departing passengers at airports. The crrent state of the research on baggage flow demand is first reviewed and analyzed. Then, using examples of objective data, it is concluded that while there is a significant correlation between airport passenger flow and baggage flow, an increase in passenger flow does not necessarily result in a proportional increase in baggage flow. According to the existing research results on the influencing factors of baggage flow sorting and classification, the main influencing factors of baggage flow are divided into two categories: macro-influencing factors and micro-influencing factors. When studying the relationship between the economy and baggage flow, it is recommended to use a comprehensive analysis that includes multiple economic indicators, rather than relying solely on GDP. This paper provides a brief overview of prevalent transportation flow prediction methods, categorizing algorithmic models into three groups: based on mathematical and statistical models, intelligent algorithmic-based models, and combined algorithmic models utilizing artificial neural networks. The structures, strengths, and weaknesses of various transportation flow prediction algorithms are analyzed, as well as their application scenarios. The potential advantages of using artificial neural network-based combined prediction models for baggage flow forecasting are explained. It concludes with an outlook on research regarding the demand for baggage flow. Within a river catchment, the relationship between pollutant load migration and its related factors is nonlinear generally. When neural network models are used to identify the nonlinear relationship, data scarcity and random weight initialization might result in overfitting and instability. In this paper, we propose an averaged weight initialization neural network (AWINN) to realize the multi-index integrated prediction of a pollutant load under data scarcity. The results show that (1) compared with the particle swarm optimization neural network (PSONN) and AdaboostR models that prevent overfitting, AWINN improved simulation accuracy significantly. The R2 in test sets of different pollutant load models reached 0.51–0.80. (2) AWINN is effective in overcoming instability. With more hidden layers, the stability of the models' outputs was stronger. (3) Sobol sensitivity analysis explained that the main influencing factors of the whole process were the flows of the catchment inlet and outlet, and main factors changed across seasons. The algorithm proposed in this paper can realize stably integrated prediction of pollutant load in the catchment under data scarcity and help to understand the mechanism that influences pollutant load migration. Recent research has revealed that subtle imperceptible perturbations can deceive well-trained neural network models, leading to inaccurate outcomes. These instances, known as adversarial examples, pose significant threats to the secure application of machine learning techniques in safety-critical systems. In this paper, we delve into the study of one-pixel attacks in deep neural networks, recently reported as a kind of adversarial examples. To identify such one-pixel attacks, most existing methodologies rely on the differential evolution method, which utilizes random selection from the current population to escape local optima. However, the differential evolution technique might waste search time and overlook good solutions if the number of iterations is insufficient. Hence, in this paper, we propose a gradient ascent with momentum approach to efficiently discover good solutions for the one-pixel attack problem. As our method takes a more direct route to the goal compared to existing methods relying on blind random walks, it can effectively identify one-pixel attacks. A photovoltaic (PV) power forecasting prediction is a crucial stage to utilize the stability, quality, and management of a hybrid power grid due to its dependency on weather conditions. In this paper, a short-term PV forecasting prediction model based on actual operational data collected from the PV experimental prototype installed at the engineering college of Misan University in Iraq is designed using various machine learning techniques. The collected data are initially classified into three diverse groups of atmosphere conditions—sunny, cloudy, and rainy meteorological cases—for various seasons. The data are taken for 3 min intervals to monitor the swift variations in PV power generation caused by atmospheric changes such as cloud movement or sudden changes in sunlight intensity. Then, an artificial neural network (ANN) technique is used based on the gray wolf optimization (GWO) and genetic algorithm (GA) as learning methods to enhance the prediction of PV energy by optimizing the number of hidden layers and neurons of the ANN model. The Python approach is used to design the forecasting prediction models based on four fitness functions: R2, MAE, RMSE, and MSE. The results suggest that the ANN model based on the GA algorithm accommodates the most accurate PV generation pattern in three different climatic condition tests, outperforming the conventional ANN and GWO-ANN forecasting models, as evidenced by the highest Pearson correlation coefficient values of 0.9574, 0.9347, and 0.8965 under sunny, cloudy, and rainy conditions, respectively. In this paper, a novel approach involving a fractional recurrent neural network (RNN) is proposed to achieve the observer-based synchronization of a cancer cell model. According to the properties of recurrent neural networks, our proposed framework serves as a predictive method for the behavior of fractional-order chaotic cancer systems with uncertain orders. Through a stability analysis of weight updating laws, we design a fractional-order Nonlinear Autoregressive with Exogenous Inputs (NARX) network, in which its learning algorithm demonstrates admissible and faster convergence. The main contribution of this paper lies in the development of a fractional neural observer for the fractional-order cancer systems, which is robust in the presence of uncertain orders. The proposed fractional-order model for cancer can capture complex and nonlinear behaviors more accurately than traditional integer-order models. This improved accuracy can provide a more realistic representation of cancer dynamics. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, where mean square errors of synchronization by applying integer and fractional weight matrix laws are calculated. The density of tumor cell, density of healthy host cell and density of effector immune cell errors for the observer-based synchronization of fractional-order (OSFO) cancer system are less than 0.0.0048, 0.0062 and 0.0068, respectively. This paper introduces a novel architecture—bidirectional optical neural network (BONN)—for providing backward connections alongside forward connections in artificial neural networks (ANNs). BONN incorporates laser diodes and photodiodes and exploits the properties of Köhler illumination to establish optical channels for backward directions. Thus, it has bidirectional functionality that is crucial for algorithms such as the backpropagation algorithm. BONN has a scaling limit of 96 × 96 for input and output arrays, and a throughput of 8.5 × 1015 MAC/s. While BONN's throughput may rise with additional layers for continuous input, limitations emerge in the backpropagation algorithm, as its throughput does not scale with layer count. The successful BONN-based implementation of the backpropagation algorithm requires the development of a fast spatial light modulator to accommodate frequent data flow changes. A two-mirror-like BONN and its cascaded extension are alternatives for multilayer emulation, and they help save hardware space and increase the parallel throughput for inference. An investigation into the application of the clustering technique to BONN revealed its potential to help overcome scaling limits and to provide full interconnections for backward directions between doubled input and output ports. As deep learning has evolved, larger and deeper neural networks are currently a popular trend in both natural language processing tasks and computer vision tasks. With the increasing parameter size and model complexity in deep neural networks, it is also necessary to have more data available for training to avoid overfitting and to achieve better results. These facts demonstrate that training deep neural networks takes more and more time. In this paper, we propose a training acceleration method based on gradually freezing the parameters during the training process. Specifically, by observing the convergence trend during the training of deep neural networks, we freeze part of the parameters so that they are no longer involved in subsequent training and reduce the time cost of training. Furthermore, an adaptive freezing algorithm for the control of freezing speed is proposed in accordance with the information reflected by the gradient of the parameters. Concretely, a larger gradient indicates that the loss function changes more drastically at that position, implying that there is more room for improvement with the parameter involved; a smaller gradient indicates that the loss function changes less and the learning of that part is close to saturation, with less benefit from further training. We use ViTDet as our baseline and conduct experiments on three remote sensing target detection datasets to verify the effectiveness of the method. Interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (IPMSMs) driven with a square-wave control (i.e., six-step, block, or 120° control), known commonly as brushless direct current (BLDC) drives, are used widely due to their high power density and control simplicity. The advance firing (AF) angle is employed to achieve improved operation characteristics of the drive. The AF angle is, in general, applied to compensate for the commutation effects. In the case of an IPMSM, the AF angle can also be adjusted to exploit reluctance torque. In this paper, a detailed study was performed to understand its effect on the drive's performance in regard to reluctance torque. Furthermore, a multi-objective optimization of the machine's cross-section using neural network models was conducted to enhance performance at a constant AF angle. The reference and improved machine designs were evaluated in a system-level simulation, where the impact was considered of the commutation of currents. The quality of Ti alloy casing is crucial for the safe and stable operation of aero engines. However, the fluctuation of key process parameters during the investment casting process of titanium alloy casings has a significant influence on the volume and number of porosity defects, and this influence cannot be effectively suppressed at present. Therefore, this paper proposes a strategy to control the influence of process parameters on shrinkage volume and number. This study constructed multiple regression prediction models and neural network prediction models of porosity volume and number for a ZTC4 casing by simulating the gravity investment casting process. The results show that the multiple regression prediction model and neural network prediction model of shrinkage cavity total volume have an accuracy of over 99%. The accuracy of the neural network prediction model is higher than that of the multiple regression model, and the neural network model realizes the accurate prediction of shrinkage defect volume and defect number through pouring temperature, pouring time, and mold shell temperature. The sensitivity degree of casing defects to key process parameters, from high to low, is as follows: pouring temperature, pouring time, and mold temperature. Further optimizing the key process parameter window reduces the influence of process parameter fluctuation on the volume and number of porosity defects in casing castings. Photovoltaic (PV) panels are one of the popular green energy resources and PV panel parameter estimations are one of the popular research topics in PV panel technology. The PV panel parameters could be used for PV panel health monitoring and fault diagnosis. Recently, a PV panel parameters estimation method based in neural network and numerical current predictor methods has been developed. However, in order to further improve the estimation accuracies, a new approach of PV panel parameter estimation is proposed in this paper. The output current and voltage dynamic responses of a PV panel are measured, and the time series of the I–V vectors will be used as input to an artificial neural network (ANN)-based PV model parameter range classifier (MPRC). The MPRC is trained using an I–V dataset with large variations in PV model parameters. The results of MPRC are used to preset the initial particles' population for a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The PSO algorithm is used to estimate the PV panel parameters and the results could be used for PV panel health monitoring and the derivation of maximum power point tracking (MMPT). Simulations results based on an experimental I–V dataset and an I–V dataset generated by simulation show that the proposed algorithms can achieve up to 3.5% accuracy and the speed of convergence was significantly improved as compared to a purely PSO approach. This paper presents an intelligent system for the dynamic estimation of sheep body weight (BW). The methodology used to estimate body weight is based on measuring seven biometric parameters: height at withers, rump height, body length, body diagonal length, total body length, semicircumference of the abdomen, and semicircumference of the girth. A biometric parameter acquisition system was developed using a Kinect as a sensor. The results were contrasted with measurements obtained manually with a flexometer. The comparison gives an average root mean square error (RMSE) of 9.91 and a mean R 2 of 0.81. Subsequently, the parameters were used as input in a back-propagation artificial neural network. Performance tests were performed with different combinations to make the best choice of architecture. In this way, an intelligent body weight estimation system was obtained from biometric parameters, with a 5.8% RMSE in the weight estimations for the best architecture. The accurate prediction of gas well production is one of the key factors affecting the economical and efficient development of tight gas wells. The traditional oil and gas well production prediction method assumes strict conditions and has a low prediction accuracy in actual field applications. At present, intelligent algorithms based on big data have been applied in oil and gas well production prediction, but there are still some limitations. Only learning from data leads to the poor generalization ability and anti-interference ability of prediction models. To solve this problem, a production prediction method of tight gas wells based on the decline curve and data-driven neural network is established in this paper. Based on the actual production data of fractured horizontal wells in three tight gas reservoirs in the Ordos Basin, the prediction effect of the Arps decline curve model, the SPED decline curve model, the MFF decline curve model, and the combination of the decline curve and data-driven neural network model is compared and analyzed. The results of the case analysis show that the MFF model and the combined data-driven model have the highest accuracy, the average absolute percentage error is 14.11%, and the root-mean-square error is 1.491, which provides a new method for the production prediction of tight gas wells in the Ordos Basin. Fretting fatigue is a specific fatigue phenomenon. Due to the complex mechanisms and multitude of influencing factors, it is still hard to predict fretting fatigue life accurately, despite there being many works on this topic. This paper developed a particle-swarm-optimized back propagation neural network to predict the fretting fatigue life of aluminum alloys using the test data gathered from the published literature. A commonly used critical plane model, the Smith, Watson, and Topper criterion, was used as a contrast. The analysis result shows that the proposed fretting fatigue life prediction neural network model achieves a higher prediction accuracy compared to the traditional SWT model. Experimental validation demonstrates the effectiveness of the model in improving the accuracy of fretting fatigue life prediction. Photocatalysts have made great contributions to the degradation of pollutants to achieve environmental purification. The traditional method of developing new photocatalysts is to design and perform a large number of experiments to continuously try to obtain efficient photocatalysts that can degrade pollutants, which is time-consuming, costly, and does not necessarily achieve the best performance of the photocatalyst. The rapid development of photocatalysis has been accelerated by the rapid development of artificial intelligence. Intelligent algorithms can be utilized to design photocatalysts and predict photocatalytic performance, resulting in a reduction in development time and the cost of new catalysts. In this paper, the intelligent algorithms for photocatalyst design and photocatalytic performance prediction are reviewed, especially the artificial neural network model and the model optimized by an intelligent algorithm. A detailed discussion is given on the advantages and disadvantages of the neural network model, as well as its application in photocatalysis optimized by intelligent algorithms. The use of intelligent algorithms in photocatalysis is challenging and long term due to the lack of suitable neural network models for predicting the photocatalytic performance of photocatalysts. The prediction of photocatalytic performance of photocatalysts can be aided by the combination of various intelligent optimization algorithms and neural network models, but it is only useful in the early stages. Accurately identifying the boundaries of agricultural land is critical to the effective management of its resources. This includes the determination of property and land rights, the prevention of non-agricultural activities on agricultural land, and the effective management of natural resources. There are various methods for accurate boundary detection, including traditional measurement methods and remote sensing, and the choice of the best method depends on specific objectives and conditions. This paper proposes the use of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) as an efficient and effective tool for the automatic recognition of agricultural land boundaries. The objective of this research paper is to develop an automated method for the recognition of agricultural land boundaries using deep neural networks and Sentinel 2 multispectral imagery. The Buinsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, which is known to be an agricultural region, was chosen for this study because of the importance of the accurate detection of its agricultural land boundaries. Linknet, a deep neural network architecture with skip connections between encoder and decoder, was used for semantic segmentation to extract arable land boundaries, and transfer learning using a pre-trained EfficientNetB3 model was used to improve performance. The Linknet + EfficientNetB3 combination for semantic segmentation achieved an accuracy of 86.3% and an f1 measure of 0.924 on the validation sample. The results showed a high degree of agreement between the predicted field boundaries and the expert-validated boundaries. According to the results, the advantages of the method include its speed, scalability, and ability to detect patterns outside the study area. Facial emotion recognition (FER) is a computer vision process aimed at detecting and classifying human emotional expressions. FER systems are currently used in a vast range of applications from areas such as education, healthcare, or public safety; therefore, detection and recognition accuracies are very important. Similar to any computer vision task based on image analyses, FER solutions are also suitable for integration with artificial intelligence solutions represented by different neural network varieties, especially deep neural networks that have shown great potential in the last years due to their feature extraction capabilities and computational efficiency over large datasets. In this context, this paper reviews the latest developments in the FER area, with a focus on recent neural network models that implement specific facial image analysis algorithms to detect and recognize facial emotions. This paper's scope is to present from historical and conceptual perspectives the evolution of the neural network architectures that proved significant results in the FER area. This paper endorses convolutional neural network (CNN)-based architectures against other neural network architectures, such as recurrent neural networks or generative adversarial networks, highlighting the key elements and performance of each architecture, and the advantages and limitations of the proposed models in the analyzed papers. Additionally, this paper presents the available datasets that are currently used for emotion recognition from facial expressions and micro-expressions. The usage of FER systems is also highlighted in various domains such as healthcare, education, security, or social IoT. The occurrence of fires in tropical peatlands poses significant threats to their ecosystems. An Internet of Things (IoT) system was developed to measure and collect fire risk factors in the Raja Musa Forest Reserve (RMFR) in Selangor, Malaysia, to address this issue. In this paper, neural networks with different layers were employed to predict peatland forests' Fire Weather Index (FWI). The neural network models used two sets of input parameters, consisting of four and nine fire factors. The predicted FWI values were compared with actual values obtained from the Malaysian meteorological department. The findings revealed that the five-layer neural network outperformed others in both the four-input and nine-input models. Specifically, the nine-input neural network achieved a mean square error (MSE) of 1.116 and a correlation of 0.890, surpassing the performance of the four-input neural network with the MSE of 1.537 and the correlation of 0.852. In this paper, the authors investigate the possibility of applying artificial intelligence algorithms to the outputs of a low-cost Kalman filter-based navigation solution in order to achieve performance similar to that of high-end MEMS inertial sensors. To further improve the results of the prototype and simultaneously lighten filter requirements, different AI models are compared in this paper to determine their performance in terms of complexity and accuracy. By overcoming some known limitations (e.g., sensitivity on the dimension of input data from inertial sensors) and starting from Kalman filter applications (whose raw noise parameter estimates were obtained from a simple analysis of sensor specifications), such a solution presents an intermediate behavior compared to the current state of the art. It allows the exploitation of the power of AI models. Different Neural Network models have been taken into account and compared in terms of measurement accuracy and a number of model parameters; in particular, Dense, 1-Dimension Convolutional, and Long Short Term Memory Neural networks. Due to the inherent periodicity of the angle, the direction of the object detected by the current rotating object detection algorithm is fuzzy. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a rotating object direction estimation method based on a neural network, which determines the unique direction of the object by predicting the direction vector of the object. Firstly, we use the two components (sin θ , cos θ) of the direction vector and the length and width parameters of the object to express the object model. Secondly, we construct a neural network model to predict the parameters used to express the object model. However, there is a constraint that the sum of the squares of the two components of the direction vector of the object is equal to 1. Because each output element of the neural network is independent, it is difficult to learn the constrained data between such neurons. Therefore, the function transformation model is designed, and the network transformation layer is added. Finally, affine transformation is used to transform the object parameters and carry out regression calculation, so as to detect the object and determine the direction of the object at the same time. This paper uses three sets of data to carry out the experiment, which are DOTA 1.5, HRSC, and UCAS-AOD data sets. It can be seen from the experimental results that for the object with correct ground truth, the proposed method can not only locate the object but also estimate the direction of the object accurately. Machine learning based on neural networks facilitates data-driven techniques for handling large amounts of data, either obtained through experiments or simulations at multiple spatio-temporal scales, thereby finding the hidden patterns underlying these data and promoting efficient research methods. The main purpose of this paper is to extend the capabilities of a new solver called realFluidReactingNNFoam, under development at the University of Perugia, in OpenFOAM with a neural network algorithm for replacing complex real-fluid thermophysical property evaluations, using the approach of coupling OpenFOAM and Python-trained neural network models. Currently, neural network models are trained against data generated using the Peng–Robinson equation of state assuming a mixture's frozen temperature. The OpenFOAM solver, where needed, calls the neural network models in each grid cell with appropriate inputs, and the returned results are used and stored in suitable OpenFOAM data structures. Such inference for thermophysical properties is achieved via the "Neural Network Inference in C made Easy (NNICE)" library, which proved to be very efficient and robust. The overall model is validated considering a liquid-rocket benchmark comprised of liquid-oxygen (LOX) and gaseous-hydrogen (GH2) streams. The model accounts for real-fluid thermodynamics and transport properties, making use of the Peng–Robinson equation of state and the Chung transport model. The fast, convenient, and accurate determination of railroad cars' load mass is critical to ensure safety and allow asset counting in railway infrastructure. In this paper, we propose a method for modeling the mechanical deformations that occur in the rail web under the influence of a static load transmitted through a railway wheel. According to the proposed method, a railroad car's weight can be determined from the rail deformation values. A solid model of a track section, including a railroad tie, rail, and wheel, is developed, and a multi-physics simulation technique that allows for the determination of the values of deformations and mechanical stresses in the strain gauge installation areas is presented. The influence of the loaded mass, the temperature of the rail, and the wheel position relative to the strain gauge location is considered. We also consider the possibility of using artificial neural networks to determine railroad cars' weight without specifying the coordinates of the wheel position. To further reduce the size of the neural network model and enable the network to be deployed on mobile devices, a novel fusion pruning algorithm based on information entropy stratification is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the method finds similar filters and removes redundant parts by Affinity Propagation Clustering, then secondly further prunes the channels by using information entropy stratification and batch normalization (BN) layer scaling factor, and finally restores the accuracy training by fine-tuning to achieve a reduced network model size without losing network accuracy. Experiments are conducted on the vgg16 and Resnet56 network using the cifar10 dataset. On vgg16, the results show that, compared with the original model, the parametric amount of the algorithm proposed in this paper is reduced by 90.69% and the computation is reduced to 24.46% of the original one. In ResNet56, we achieve a 63.82%-FLOPs reduction by removing 63.53% parameters. The memory occupation and computation speed of the new model are better than the baseline model while maintaining a high network accuracy. Compared with similar algorithms, the algorithm has obvious advantages in the dimensions of computational speed and model size. The pruned model is also deployed to the Internet of Things (IoT) as a target detection system. In addition, experiments show that the proposed model is able to detect targets accurately with low reasoning time and memory. Knowledge tracing models based on deep neural networks are currently widely studied to enhance personalized learning. However, to ensure the practical deployment of DNN-based KT models, prediction accuracy, training efficiency, and interpretability should be greatly improved. In this paper, we observe that the prediction accuracy of KT models can be improved by clustering the features of both students and questions. Based on this observation, a distributed KT scheme is proposed: (1) it classifies both students and questions based on clustering technology to reduce the interaction between different feature data to improve the prediction accuracy; (2) models for different classifications are trained in parallel in this distributed deployment architecture to improve the training efficiency; (3) the combination of a students' knowledge state matrix and an RPa-LLM model is designed to display the knowledge status of students in the learning process, which can be used to build students' portraits, thus improving the interpretability of the model. Real educational data are collected to conduct experiments. The results show that the proposed scheme improves both prediction accuracy and training efficiency by 4.08% and 67.28%, respectively, compared to the baseline methods. The deep groove ball bearing is one of the most important components of the rotary motion system and is the research subject in this paper. After factory assembly, new ball bearings need to pass quality control. The conventional approach relies on measuring the vibration amplitudes for each unit and sorting them into classes according to the vibration level. In this paper, based on experimental research, models are created to predict the vibration class and analyze the dynamic behavior of new ball bearings. The models are based on artificial neural networks. A feedforward multilayer perceptron (MLP) was applied, and a backpropagation learning algorithm was used. A specific method of training groups of artificial neural networks was applied, where each network provided an answer to the input within the group, and the final answer was the mean value of the answers of all networks in the group. The models achieved a prediction accuracy of over 90%. The main aim of the research was to construct models that are able to predict the vibration class of a new ball bearing based on the geometric parameters of the bearing rings. This paper discusses the possibility of analyzing the orchestration protocol used in gigabit-capable passive optical networks (GPONs). This paper presents a vision system that measures the position of an aircraft relative to the runway (RWY) during a landing approach. It was assumed that all the information necessary for a correct approach was based entirely on an analysis of the image of the runway and its surroundings. It was assumed that the way the algorithm works, as well as possible, should imitate the pilot's perception of the runway. Taking into account the above and the fact that the infrastructure at each airport is different, it has been decided to use artificial neural networks with a dedicated learning process for any airport, based on the simulation environments. Such an action will enable the generation of a synthetic video sequence without the need for costly and time-consuming flights. The paper investigates the rheological behavior and microstructuring of an AlMg6/10% SiC metal matrix composite (MMC). The rheological behavior and microstructuring of the AlMg6/10% SiC composite is studied for strain rates ranging between 0.1 and 4 s−1 and temperatures ranging from 300 to 500 °C. The microstructure formation is studied using EBSD analysis, as well as finite element simulation and neural network models. The paper proposes a new method of adding data to a training sample, which allows neural networks to correctly predict the behavior of microstructure parameters, such as the average grain diameter, and the fraction and density of low-angle boundaries with scanty initial experimental data. The use of neural networks has made it possible to relate the thermomechanical parameters of deformation to the microstructure parameters formed under these conditions. These dependences allow us to establish that, at strain rates ranging from 0.1 to 4 s−1 and temperatures between 300 to 500 °C, the main softening processes in the AlMg6/10% SiC MMC are dynamic recovery and continuous dynamic recrystallization accompanied, under certain strain and strain rate conditions at 300 and 350 °C, by geometric recrystallization. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology is one of the key technical approaches to improve the spectrum efficiency of wireless communication. Modern communication systems employ MIMO and high-order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) to maximize spectral efficiency. However, with the increase in the number of antennas and modulation orders, it is very challenging to design a low-complexity and high-efficiency MIMO receiver. Fixed-wing vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAVs have received more and more attention in recent years, because they have the advantages of both fixed-wing UAVs and rotary-wing UAVs. To meet its large flight envelope, the VTOL UAV needs accurate measurement of airflow parameters, including angle of attack, sideslip angle and speed of incoming flow, in a larger range of angle of attack. However, the traditional devices for the measurement of airflow parameters are unsuitable for large-angle measurement. In addition, their performance is unsatisfactory when the UAV is at low speed. Therefore, for tail-sitter VTOL UAVs, we used a 5-hole pressure probe to measure the pressure of these holes and transformed the pressure data into the airflow parameters required in the flight process using an artificial neural network (ANN) method. Through a series of comparative experiments, we achieved a high-performance neural network. Through the processing and analysis of wind-tunnel-experiment data, we verified the feasibility of the method proposed in this paper, which can make more accurate estimates of airflow parameters within a certain range. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the current state of AI-based techniques used in combination with non-invasive diagnostic imaging modalities including reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and dermoscopy. We also aimed to determine whether the application of AI-based techniques can lead to improved diagnostic accuracy of melanoma. Methods: A systematic search was conducted via the Medline/PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase databases for eligible publications between 2018 and 2022. Screening methods adhered to the 2020 version of the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. Included studies utilized AI-based algorithms for melanoma detection and directly addressed the review objectives. Results: We retrieved 40 papers amongst the three databases. All studies directly comparing the performance of AI-based techniques with dermatologists reported the superior or equivalent performance of AI-based techniques in improving the detection of melanoma. In studies directly comparing algorithm performance on dermoscopy images to dermatologists, AI-based algorithms achieved a higher ROC (>80%) in the detection of melanoma. In these comparative studies using dermoscopic images, the mean algorithm sensitivity was 83.01% and the mean algorithm specificity was 85.58%. Studies evaluating machine learning in conjunction with OCT boasted accuracy of 95%, while studies evaluating RCM reported a mean accuracy rate of 82.72%. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate the robust potential of AI-based techniques to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes through the early identification of melanoma. Further studies are needed to assess the generalizability of these AI-based techniques across different populations and skin types, improve standardization in image processing, and further compare the performance of AI-based techniques with board-certified dermatologists to evaluate clinical applicability. The fluctuations of the Wi-Fi signal caused by human actions in a Wi-Fi coverage area can be used to precisely identify the human skeleton and pose, which effectively overcomes the problems of the traditional solution. Although many promising results have been achieved, no survey summarizes the research progress. This paper aims to comprehensively investigate and analyze the latest applications of human behavior recognition based on channel state information (CSI) and the human skeleton. First, we review the human profile perception and skeleton recognition progress based on wireless perception technologies. Second, we summarize the general framework of precise pose recognition, including signal preprocessing methods, neural network models, and performance results. Then, we classify skeleton model generation methods into three categories and emphasize the crucial difference among these typical applications. Furthermore, we discuss two aspects, such as experimental scenarios and recognition targets. This article presents a method for transparent watermarking of high-capacity watermarked video under H.265/HEVC (High-Efficiency Video Coding) compression conditions while maintaining high-quality encoded image. The aim of this paper is to present a method for watermark embedding using neural networks under conditions of subjecting video to lossy compression of the HEVC codec using the YUV420p color model chrominance channel for watermarking. This paper presents a method for training a deep neural network to embed a watermark when a compression channel is present. The discussed method is characterized by high accuracy of the video with an embedded watermark compared to the original. The PSNR (peak signal-to-noise ratio) values obtained are over 44 dB. The watermark capacity is 96 bits for an image with a resolution of 128 × 128. The method enables the complete recovery of a watermark from a single video frame compressed by the HEVC codec within the range of compression values defined by the CRF (constant rate factor) up to 22. In the recent past, hyper-spectral imaging has found widespread application in forensic science, performing both geometric characterization of biological traces and trace classification by exploiting their spectral emission. Methods proposed in the literature for blood stain analysis have been shown to be effectively limited to collaborative surfaces. This proves to be restrictive in real-case scenarios. The problem of the substrate material and color is then still an open issue for blood stain analysis. This paper presents a novel method for blood spectra correction when contaminated by the influence of the substrate, exploiting a neural network-based approach. Blood stains hyper-spectral images deposited on 12 different substrates for 12 days at regular intervals were acquired via a hyper-spectral camera. The data collected were used to train and test the developed neural network model. Starting from the spectra of a blood stain deposited in a generic substrate, the algorithm at first recognizes whether it is blood or not, then allows to obtain the spectra that the same blood stain, at the same time, would have on a reference white substrate with a mean absolute percentage error of 1.11%. Random drift error is one of the important factors of MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical-system) sensor output error. Identifying and compensating sensor output error is an important means to improve sensor accuracy. In order to reduce the impact of white noise on neural network modeling, the ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) method was used to separate white noise from the original signal. The drift signal after noise removal is modeled by GRNN (general regression neural network). In order to achieve a better modeling effect, cross-validation and parameter optimization algorithms were designed to obtain the optimal GRNN model. The algorithm is used to model and compensate errors for the generated random drift signal. The results show that the mean value of original signal decreases from 0.1130 m/s2 to −1.2646 × 10−7 m/s2, while the variance decreases from 0.0133 m/s2 to 1.0975 × 10−5 m/s2. In addition, the displacement test was carried out by MEMS acceleration sensor. Experimental results show that the displacement measurement accuracy is improved from 95.64% to 98.00% by compensating the output error of MEMS sensor. By comparing the GA-BP (genetic algorithm-back propagation) neural network and the polynomial fitting method, the EEMD-GRNN method proposed in this paper can effectively identify and compensate for complex nonlinear drift signals. With an improvement in the performance of radio telescopes, the number of pulsar candidates has increased rapidly, which makes selecting valuable pulsar signals from the candidates challenging. It is imperative to improve the recognition efficiency of pulsars. Therefore, we solved this problem from the perspective of intelligent image processing and a deep neural network model AR_Net was proposed in this paper. A single time–phase-subgraph or frequency-phase-subgraph was used as the judgment basis in the recognition model. The convolution blocks can be obtained by combining the attention mechanism module, feature extractor and residual connection. Then, different convolution blocks were superimposed to constitute the AR_Net to screen pulsars. The attention mechanism module was used to calculate the weight through an additional feedforward neural network and the important features in the sample were identified by weight, so the ability of the model to learn pivotal information was improved. The feature extractor was used to gain the high-dimensional features in the samples and the residual connection was introduced to alleviate the problem of network degradation and intensify feature reuse. Unlimited access to information and data sharing wherever and at any time for anyone and anything is a fundamental component of fifth-generation (5G) wireless communication and beyond. Therefore, it has become inevitable to exploit the super-high frequency (SHF) and millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequency bands for future wireless networks due to their attractive ability to provide extremely high data rates because of the availability of vast amounts of bandwidth. However, due to the characteristics and sensitivity of wireless signals to the propagation effects in these frequency bands, more accurate path loss prediction models are vital for the planning, evaluating, and optimizing future wireless communication networks. This paper presents and evaluates the performance of several well-known machine learning methods, including multiple linear regression (MLR), polynomial regression (PR), support vector regression (SVR), as well as the methods using decision trees (DT), random forests (RF), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), artificial neural networks (ANN), and artificial recurrent neural networks (RNN). RNNs are mainly based on long short-term memory (LSTM). The models are compared based on measurement data to provide the best fitting machine-learning-based path loss prediction models. The main results obtained from this study show that the best root-mean-square error (RMSE) performance is given by the ANN and RNN-LSTM methods, while the worst is for the MLR method. All the RMSE values for the given learning techniques are in the range of 0.0216 to 2.9008 dB. Furthermore, this work shows that the models (except for the MLR model) perform excellently in fitting actual measurement data for wireless communications in enclosed indoor environments since they provide R-squared and correlation values higher than 0.91 and 0.96 , respectively. Engineering and technological research groups are becoming interested in neural network techniques to improve productivity, business strategies, and societal development. In this paper, an explicit numerical scheme is given for both linear and nonlinear differential equations. The scheme is correct to second order. Additionally, the scheme's consistency and stability are guaranteed. Backpropagation of Levenberg–Marquardt, the effect of including an induced magnetic field in a mathematical model for electrical boundary layer nanofluid flow on a flat plate, is quantitatively investigated using artificial neural networks. Later, the model is reduced into a set of boundary value problems, which are then resolved using the suggested scheme and a shooting strategy. The outcomes are also contrasted with earlier studies and the MATLAB solver bvp4c for validation purposes. In addition, neural networking is also employed for mapping input to outputs for velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles. The use of delivery drones is currently hindered by the inability of transported objects to maintain a steady position, which can result from roll-, pitch-, and heave-induced vibrations. This paper proposes a novel parallel manipulator for stabilizing the platform of unmanned aerial vehicles. The proposed mechanism builds upon an existing study of a 3-SRR/SRU parallel stabilizing mechanism by incorporating the dynamical properties of the system into the control model. The resultant control technique is then applied to both the 3-RRS and 3-SRR mechanisms, and a comparative study is conducted to identify the most reliable stabilizer for regulating the platform's orientation. The results demonstrate that the 3-SRR mechanism exhibits superior robustness and stability characteristics compared to the other two mechanisms. Additionally, the 3-SRR mechanism is controlled using artificial neural networks, which significantly improves the accuracy and stability of the system. This paper adopts an intelligent controller based on supervised neural network control for a magnetorheological (MR) damper in an aircraft landing gear. An MR damper is a device capable of adjusting the damping force by changing the magnetic field generated in electric coils. Applying an MR damper to the landing gears of an aircraft could minimize the impact at landing and increase the impact absorption efficiency. Various techniques proposed for controlling the MR damper in aircraft landing gears require information on the damper force or the mass of the aircraft to determine optimal parameters and control commands. This information is obtained by estimation with a model in a practical operating environment, and the accompanying inaccuracies cause performance degradation. Machine learning-based controllers have also been proposed to address model dependency but require a large number of drop test data. Unlike simulations, which can conduct a large number of virtual drop tests, the cost and time are limited in the actual experimental environment. Therefore, a neural network controller with supervised learning is proposed in this paper to simulate the behavior of a proven controller only with system states. The experimental data generated by applying the hybrid controller with the exact mass and force information, which has demonstrated high performance among the existing techniques, are set as the target for supervised learning. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed controller, drop test experiments using the intelligent controller and the hybrid controller with and without exact information about aircraft mass and force are executed. The experimental results from the drop tests of a landing gear show that the proposed controller maintains superior performance to the hybrid controller without using explicit damper models or any information on the aircraft mass or strut force. To boost productivity, commercial strategies, and social advancement, neural network techniques are gaining popularity among engineering and technical research groups. This work proposes a numerical scheme to solve linear and non-linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The scheme's primary benefit included its third-order accuracy in two stages, whereas most examples in the literature do not provide third-order accuracy in two stages. The scheme was explicit and correct to the third order. The stability region and consistency analysis of the scheme for linear ODE are provided in this paper. Moreover, a mathematical model of heat and mass transfer for the non-Newtonian Casson nanofluid flow is given under the effects of the induced magnetic field, which was explored quantitatively using the method of Levenberg–Marquardt back propagation artificial neural networks. The governing equations were reduced to ODEs using suitable similarity transformations and later solved by the proposed scheme with a third-order accuracy. Additionally, a neural network approach for input and output/predicted values is given. In addition, inputs for velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles were mapped to the outputs using a neural network. The results are displayed in different types of graphs. Absolute error, regression studies, mean square error, and error histogram analyses are presented to validate the suggested neural networks' performance. The neural network technique is currently used on three of these four targets. Two hundred points were utilized, with 140 samples used for training, 30 samples used for validation, and 30 samples used for testing. With the continuous optimization of the steel production process and the increasing emergence of smelting methods, it has become difficult to monitor and control the production process using the traditional steel management model. The regulation of steel smelting processes by means of machine learning has become a hot research topic in recent years. In this study, through the data mining and correlation analysis of the main equipment and processes involved in steel transfer, a network algorithm was optimized to solve the problems of standard back propagation (BP) networks, and a steel temperature forecasting model based on improved back propagation (BP) neural networks was established for basic oxygen furnace (BOF) steelmaking, ladle furnace (LF) refining, and Ruhrstahl–Heraeus (RH) refining. The main factors influencing steel temperature were selected through theoretical analysis and heat balance principles; the production data were analyzed; and the neural network was trained and tested using large amounts of field data to predict the end-point steel temperature of basic oxygen furnace (BOF) steelmaking, ladle furnace (LF) refining, and Ruhrstahl–Heraeus (RH) refining. The prediction model was applied to predict the degree of influence of different operating parameters on steel temperature. A comparison of the prediction results with the production data shows that the prediction system has good prediction accuracy, with a hit rate of over 90% for steel temperature deviations within 20 °C. This paper focused on the problem of diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease via the combination of deep learning and radiomics methods. We proposed a classification model for Alzheimer's disease diagnosis based on improved convolution neural network models and image fusion method and compared it with existing network models. We collected 182 patients in the ADNI and PPMI database to classify Alzheimer's disease, and reached 0.906 AUC in training with single modality images, and 0.941 AUC in training with fusion images. This proved the proposed method has better performance in the fusion images. The research may promote the application of multimodal images in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. Fusion images dataset based on multi-modality images has higher diagnosis accuracy than single modality images dataset. The production of parts by pressing and subsequent welding is commonly used in the automotive industry. The disadvantage of this method of production is that inaccuracies arising during pressing significantly affect the final dimension of the part. However, this can be corrected by the choice of the technological parameters of the following operation—welding. Suitably designed parameters make it possible to partially eliminate inaccuracies arising during pressing and thus increase the overall applicability of this technology. The paper is focused on the upper arm geometry of a car produced in this manner. There have been two neural networks proposed in which the optimal welding parameters are determined based on the stamped dimensions and the desired final dimensions. The Levenberg–Marquardt back-propagation algorithm and the Bayesian regularised back-propagation algorithm were used as the learning algorithm for ANNs in multi-layer feed-forward networks. The outputs obtained from the neural networks were compared with a linear prediction model based on a on the design of experiment methodology. The mean absolute percentage error of the linear regression model on the entire dataset was 3 × 10−3%. A neural network with Levenberg–Marquardt back-propagation learning algorithm had a mean absolute percentage error of 4 × 10−3. Adversarial example generation techniques for neural network models have exploded in recent years. In the adversarial attack scheme for image recognition models, it is challenging to achieve a high attack success rate with very few pixel modifications. To address this issue, this paper proposes an adversarial example generation method based on adaptive parameter adjustable differential evolution. The method realizes the dynamic adjustment of the algorithm performance by adjusting the control parameters and operation strategies of the adaptive differential evolution algorithm, while searching for the optimal perturbation. Finally, the method generates adversarial examples with a high success rate, modifying just a very few pixels. The attack effectiveness of the method is confirmed in CIFAR10 and MNIST datasets. The experimental results show that our method has a greater attack success rate than the One Pixel Attack based on the conventional differential evolution. Neural networks have a wide range of promise for image prediction, but in the current setting of neural networks as a service, the data privacy of the parties involved in prediction raises concerns. In this paper, we design and implement a privacy-preserving neural network prediction model in the three-party secure computation framework over secret sharing of private data. Secret sharing allows the original data to be split, with each share held by a different party. The parties cannot know the shares owned by the remaining collaborators, and thus the original data can be kept secure. The three parties refer to the client, the service provider and the third server that assist in the computation, which is different from the previous work. Thus, under the definition of semi-honest and malicious security, we design new computation protocols for the building blocks of the neural network based on replicated secret sharing. Experimenting with MNIST dataset on different neural network architectures, our scheme improves 1.3×/1.5× and 7.4×/47.6× in terms of computation time as well as communication cost compared to the Falcon framework under the semi-honest/malicious security, respectively. Deep neural networks (DNNs), the integration of neural networks (NNs) and deep learning (DL), have proven highly efficient in executing numerous complex tasks, such as data and image classification. Because the multilayer in a nonlinearly separable data structure is not transparent, it is critical to develop a specific data classification model from a new and unexpected dataset. In this paper, we propose a novel approach using the concepts of DNN and decision tree (DT) for classifying nonlinear data. We first developed a decision tree-based neural network (DTBNN) model. Next, we extend our model to a decision tree-based deep neural network (DTBDNN), in which the multiple hidden layers in DNN are utilized. Using DNN, the DTBDNN model achieved higher accuracy compared to the related and relevant approaches. Our proposal achieves the optimal trainable weights and bias to build an efficient model for nonlinear data classification by combining the benefits of DT and NN. By conducting in-depth performance evaluations, we demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposal by achieving good accuracy over different datasets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
