On 17 and 18 May 2021 almost 8000 migrants arrived in Ceuta, crossing over from the Moroccan side of the border. The humanitarian emergency was evident, but the Spanish extreme right defined the situation as something quite different. This article analyses Vox's activity on Twitter during the two weeks following the arrival of the migrants, with the aim of identifying the logics of racism in its discourse. The methodology used is content analysis, focusing on topics frequency and discursive strategies used. A total of 762 publications from the official Vox account are analysed. The results indicate that the party constructs the aforementioned crisis as a warlike situation of threat, by way of populist discursive strategies. The logics of racist discourse are specifically xenophobic and cultural. Vox demands anti-immigrant institutional racism that does not respect human rights. This study describes the relations between the press and political power, during the Spanish transition to democracy in the late 1970s, focusing on discursive relations between political actors with power or challenging power and the media which interpreted their developments. It analyses how the main media, in the discourse of their news stories and editorials, framed events to construct a 'reality' for the public, aiding or impeding the construction of a democratic public sphere. The study is based on an analysis of journalistic discourse in ABC, La Vanguardia, El País (daily newspapers) and Triunfo (a weekly political magazine) in their coverage of key events in the period between the death of Franco (November 1975) and the approval of the Basque and Catalan statutes (November 1979). In the face of Europe's stringent measures to regulate and monitor the flux of emigrants and refugees from Africa and the Middle East, a new type of emigrant has emerged: the harrag or clandestine immigrant who is, on his or her part, determined to push the idea of the political border to its limits. The clandestine immigrant in Spain today is not only regarded as an unwanted guest, a reminder of a past history of violence, but also as a potential terrorist bent on destroying western civilization and its values. This article examines the phenomenon of hrig or clandestine immigration in four Moroccan texts and focusses on three key themes: the persistence of the myth of Europe as an Eldorado, the symbolic disintegration of the harrag's body, and Spain's ambivalent vision of its Arab and Muslim Others. The purpose is to demonstrate, through a comparative study, how the harrag exposes the limits of Europe's discourse on cultural hybridity and national belonging. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
