Book donation is the oldest method of completing a library's collections but is still considered today an act of great generosity, of great interest to libraries, especially in recent years, when the total amounts allocated to the purchase of books are in a vertiginous decline. For the Philosophy Library, branch of the Central University Library "Mihai Eminescu" Iași, an important source of completing the collections is the documents entered free of charge in the library funds following remarkable donations from individuals or legal entities: donations coming from the headquarters, from various institutions, from authors (teaching staff, PhD students, writers), from students (to the final license/master) or from retired teachers. Of great importance are the considerable donations made by families who have inherited impressive libraries of university professors or cultural personalities. Every book donated to the Philosophy Branch is important, we can consider the value of the information it contains, the existence in the library collections, the bibliophile value, the prestige of the publishing house that printed it, the quality of the paper, autographs. All donations entered in the branch's collections contain publications relevant to the library profile; these donations have helped to enrich the Philosophy Branch's collections with some rare, valuable books, but of great importance is the fact that the donated titles, in most cases, did not exist in the library's collections.
