The article is devoted to the lateral-torsional buckling of elastic beams loaded with a potential moment. Such problems were previously investigated in a linearized formulation. The prebuckling deformations of the beam is not considered in this setting. We use the nonlinear geometrically exact beam theory and an exact non-linear solution in our article. The exact spatial stability functional and stability equations are obtained by the variation calculus. The exact value of a critical moment for the cantilever beam was obtained.
